Vote. That's how you provoke change. That brother looks in shape right there. But that's. I digress. I digress. There's a lot to get into today. Been out of the loop for a few days, but I'm back in the house. Lot of sports that I didn't touch on in front of you, but I'm about to do it right now. NBA, NFL, that's a given. But the election is just a week away, people. There are things to discuss. Our lives, our livelihood. And you know, I'm going to get into all of that because I got a whole bunch of stuff to say with the nonsense I've been seeing going on. Oh, yeah, there's a whole lot to say. Stephen A. Smith showing the house. Sup, everybody? Welcome to the latest edition of the Stephen A. As the presidential election is now less than a week away, both campaigns are now making their closing arguments to the nation. Donald Trump spent Tuesday in Pennsylvania, speaking at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he asked, quote, are you better off now than you were four years ago? End quote. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke to an audience at the Ellipse on the Washington Mall last night, the same place where Trump spoke to the crowd that eventually stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, nearly four years ago. To be specific, Harris stated clearly how her administration would differ from that of Joe Biden. Take a listen.
Kamala Harris
I have been honored to serve as Joe Biden's vice president.

But I will.
Kamala Harris

My presidency will be different because the.
Kamala Harris
Challenges we face are different. Our top priority as a nation four.

Years ago was to end the pandemic.
Kamala Harris
And rescue the economy. Now our biggest challenge is is to lower costs, costs that were rising even before the pandemic and that are still too high.
Stephen A. Smith
I'll touch on that in just a second. As for President Biden, he's playing cleanup since he made his own, quote, unquote, garbage comment this week. During a call with Latino supporters on Tuesday, Biden said the only garbage he sees is among Trump supporters. That was a reference to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's controversial comment Sunday calling Puerto Rico floating garbage at the Trump rally at Madison Square Garden in New York. As for Vice President Harris, she told reporters today she strongly disagrees with any criticism of people based on who they vote for. Here's the deal. Very, very smart of her to do that. I'm quite sure Biden meant it directly for the comedian who, who uttered those words out of his mouth, but it was still foolhardy for him to do so. Why? Because just like the deplorables comment that Hillary Clinton made years ago, people are going to generalize it. This is why I go off, ladies and gentlemen, and why I express to you, and I'm going to repeat this again. I'm going to go off topic just a touch by breaking this down for y'all. There's a reason you don't hear me uttering words like racist and all of this stuff out of my mouth. When it comes to somebody like Donald Trump, I know how incendiary his comments can be. I know how irresponsible his rhetoric has been. I know how divisive he comes across. But when you're willing to label folks with name calling, with derogatory name calling, the supporters of that candidate, of the mindset, you're talking about them, not him, it could be somebody you work with. It could be somebody you work for. It could be colleagues, contemporaries, bosses, friends, family members. They're not always going to tell you who they're voting for. They're not always going to tell you where their support lies. But you have to be mindful of the fact that you're not alienating the very people around you by talking about somebody in that way when you don't know whether or not they're a supporter of them. Now, in the case of Joe Biden with his comments that he clarified was aimed towards the comedian who said it. When he spoke, he spoke in pluralities. He said they, as opposed to him. Now he's the President of the United States, that everybody's going to expect that, you know the difference, regardless of the cognitive decline that they have been bloviating about over the last few months, they're going to assume it was intentional. And what have they been, what have they been doing? Marco Rubio is at a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden. And what did he say? You just heard the President of the United States, Joe Biden, call us this, call us garbage. That's what he said about Trump supporters. Well, we're not. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's what happens. And so as a result of that, the divisiveness kicks in. And when that kicks in, you play right into Trump's hands, because it's us against them. And he doesn't have to talk about specifically what he has to offer this country. Oh, we're going to be over. We're going to build a wall, a great big wall, and the Mexicans are going to pay for it. That didn't happen. We're going to have the best economy in the history. We had the best economy in the history of this country. Well, a lot of people have debated that to be otherwise. He Never mentions the fact that the debt under him exceeded over $35 trillion and it doubled the amount of debt that President Obama had accumulated under his administration. He didn't mention any of that. You know why? Because he doesn't have to. Because he's got everybody so focused on his behavior that they don't really lock in and zero in on the issues. And so when Kamala Harris is giving her speech last night and she's talking about, hey, he's trying to divide us, I'm trying to bring us together. He's not willing to work with anybody. I'm willing to work with everybody. He's going to be about revenge and exacting vengeance and retribution. I'm going to bring about us. I'm going to be about us bringing people together. Those very vague terms. Liberals will support it. Progressives will support it. Conservatives will be against it. What about the independents? What are they going to do? Ladies and gentlemen, we're six days away from the election at this moment in time that I'm taping this show. Do you know that it's Nip and Tuck. Do you know that when Trump won the election in 2016 by accumulating over 304 electoral college votes, did you know that he was down significantly more in the polls in the days leading up to the election prior to him winning? Do you know that in 2020, he was also down in the polls even though he ultimately lost that election, he swears he won. The point is, it being Nip and Tuck right now between him and Kamala Harris is a bad sign for Kamala Harris. Somebody's gotta say it, so I'm gonna say it. She's in trouble now. You saw me there with the tag on my chest. I voted yes. I voted for her. And I'm unapologetic about it because we don't need somebody that divisive in the White House because I believe it's going to cause chaos in this country. But other people don't care about the chaos. They care about their wallet, or they care about reproductive rights, or they care about the border and immigration laws and reform. They care about those kind of things. They don't care about that the fact that this race is tight, that they're speculating that she's in danger of losing Pennsylvania, which, by the way, is a case as to why she should have picked Governor Josh Shapiro as opposed to Tim Walls from Minnesota. These are all things to be worried about. This is not a guarantee. You got to get to the polls. And, oh, by the Way, you got to hope, if you're hoping for her to win, that the Democrats have played their cards right and they focus on what it takes to win the Electoral College vote and not concern themselves with the popular vote. Because, remember, Hillary Rodham Clinton won more votes against Trump by 2,868,000 votes, and she still lost because she didn't win the electoral college votes. 53% of that base, by the way, is women. 53% of the electorate for Electoral College voting are women. So if they all show up to the polls, Kamala Harris should win. But can she get into the polls? Can you pull it off? You think she's done that? Has her case been made in order to do that, to inspire and galvanize people to go to the polls? That remains to be seen. These speeches are nice. Some have been very good. I thought last night's speech was very good with the White House as the backdrop. I thought she performed well during the debate against Donald Trump, face to face. I thought some speeches she's given at these rallies and certainly her speech at the Democratic National Convention was impressive. But when she's been interviewed by folks who know politics and this is their lane, and they're asking her about the issues, I swear, before all things, I'ma lose it if I hear her preface her answers again by telling the world she was raised in a middle class household. I'm getting tired of that because I don't think it's going to work. If I thought it would work, I'd like it. I don't think that's going to work. Just a little nugget of information, particularly when you're speaking to the minority portion of the population. Middle class is closer to upper class than it is to lower class. And a lot of times people don't think your level of relatability is elevated when you say middle class. Her team telling her to say middle class, middle class, middle class. Especially when you're preferencing every answer with that, may not work. I'm only saying all of this to say, ladies and gentlemen, I voted for her. I want her to win. I'm critiquing because I want her to win, not because I want her to lose. You, you got six days to convince the voters it ain't over. It's nip and tuck. It could go either way. You've been saying that for months. It goes either way. Try something to swing for the fences, something a little bit different. Change it up a little bit. You got six days to do it. Even though Folks are voting early, like myself. You got six days to do it. It. That's what I got to say about that. But that's just me. Why listen to me when you can listen to my next guest, who knows a hell of a lot more about this stuff than I do. We got a town hall tonight at News Nation. It's called Cuomo show, meaning Cuomo. Okay, that's where I'll be tonight. Of a town hall. I'll get into all of that in just a second when I introduce him. But not before I pay some bills right here. Take a look. Your boy and prospects. Okay, everybody, you know what time it is. It's time for Stephen A. Sports Picks. Do you know how much I love this time of year? We've got college football games on Saturdays. We've got NFL games on Thursdays, Sundays and Mondays. And we've got NBA games every day in between. You couldn't possibly fit in any more sports. Except that we can. And that's because we're using Prize Picks for all that game time action. You see, Prize Picks is the largest fantasy sports platform in all the land with more than 3 million members, where you choose two, three or even up to six players and then pick more or less on their projected stats for the game. But the best part is you can pick players from any of those sports I just mentioned. Choose Josh Allen, Travis Hunter and LeBron James all in the same entry. And then sit back and watch and get this. Sign up with code SAS and prize picks will give you $50 instantly when you play your first $5 lineup. You don't need to win your lineup to receive the $50 bonus. It's guaranteed. All you have to do is play a $5 lineup on prize picks and you'll get $50 instantly. Now let's see my winning picks. Today I'll be picking for Thursday night's NFL game between the Houston Texans and the New York Jets. First up, Houston quarterback C.J. stroud against the jets secondary, more or less than 225 and a half passing yards. Look here, peeps, I understand Stefon Diggs just went down. All right? Acl. He's out for the year. I understand. Nico Collins. Okay. Will he be back or not? Bottom line is he's been out. So it's a bit compromising, to say the least, for CJ Stroud. He's still a bad brother. And. And I don't like what I've been seeing from the New York jets secondary. So guess what? I'm going for More on this one. Cause C.J. stroud is that dude. More for C.J. stroud than the 225 and a half yards. That's that. Next up, New York jets signal caller. The one and only Aaron Rodgers. More or less than 235 and a half passing yards. I don't like what I've been seeing from Aaron Rodgers, but I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here when you got Devontae Adams and Garrett Wilson to throw the football to and think you can't throw for more than 235 and a half and a half yards. You better. You better. We gonna go with more for this with Aaron Rodgers. Next up, Texans running back Joe Mixon against the Jets D. More or less than 82 and a half rushing yards. Here's the thing, I'm gonna say less, but not for the reasons you think. It's not that Joe Mixon can't get those yards is that I think Houston don't really need to run the football because they know they could be able to pass on the jets considering the way the jets secondary has looked. And I think that C.J. stroud is going to take advantage of that. They're going to anticipate that the jets are going to are going to anticipate Houston running the damn football and then they're going to throw it. So I'm going to say for that reason, Mixing will have less than 82 and a half rushing yards. Because C.J. stroud is going to have a lot more than 235 or 225 passing yards. That's where I'm going with it. I'm going with less with Mixing here. And last but not least, jets wide out Gary Wilson. More or less than 63 and a half receiving yards. Once again, Aaron Rod's going to have to throw the football. Yeah. Breece hall is there to run the football. But the bottom line is you got Garrett Wilson, you got devonte Adams, you can throw the football. You, Aaron Rodgers, you're not satisfied with the way that you've been playing. You've openly admitted you need to do better. I think he does do better and I think that Garrett Wilson benefits from that. So he's going to have more than 63 and a half receiving yards. That's what I'm predicting for him on this game. So to recap, CJ Stroud more. Aaron Rodgers, more. Garrett Wilson, more. Joe Mixon, less. That's the way it's going this week. Alright, flow with me on this. I kinda know what I'm doing.

I mean, even if you took the clam out for the best day ever, visiting the zoo, taking a scenic ride, knowing you're insured by specialists, and sharing a strawberry ice cream cone together, the clam would not feel happy and your strawberry cone would taste sorta clammy.

On the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Obviously you heard what I had to say. I had a lot to say on this particular subject, but who better to talk to than my next guest? By the way, tonight, 8pm Eastern Stand standard time on News Nation. There's a hit show in the world of news and politics. It is called Cuomo. And the host of that show is the one and only Chris Cuomo, who is with me right now. What's up big time? How are you man? How's everything?
Chris Cuomo
Doing homework for us? For tonight, I am out. As comedian Tony Baker would say, I'm in the community. I've been talking to people about what they're worried about, what they want to hear discussed. And I'm just making sure that I'm on point for when we do the town hall tonight that I'm so happy to have you as a co host on.
Stephen A. Smith
Let me ask you this question. It's one thing to have a show, but to have a town hall? We've seen that over the years on many, many occasions. Why did you want to do this, particularly the week before the election?
Chris Cuomo
I didn't. It was Dusty's idea. My ep, okay. And it was a great one because it's really going to work more like a telethon. Once I had Stephen A. Smith wanting to be part of this, everybody wanted to be part of it. So now we got all these players and stakeholders from both sides that want to weigh in on the conversation. So my goal tonight is just to motivate conversation. You know, have you and Bill O'Reilly talking about how you see things the same and different. Then we'll start folding people in. Mark Cuban, Ro Khanna, Dana White, you know, all these different players from both sides coming in, same conversation, talking to the audience, you know, talking to people who call in. Just keep it rolling as a conversation because that's what's missing. Everything is silos, everything is bubbles, and we can get past it. And, you know, not just because it's alliterative, but conversation is the cure. You got. Here's a stat that just blew my mind, okay? 81% of people in the last few weeks in a recent survey by Ipsos, which is a real outlet, 81%, even adjusted for partisan inclinations, say that we're more divided than they can remember. At the same time, 70% of people believe that we all want the same things. How can 81% believe we're more divided than ever? And 70% believe in the same survey that we all want the same things? How? Because something's off. And what I think is off is the dialogue and the toxic politics of the two parties. And I think we can talk our way through that.
Stephen A. Smith
Do you blame anyone in particular for the absence of dialogue and the divisiveness that exists in today's politics? Or do you hold. Do you hold both parties accountable and culpable, or is there one in particular individual that resonates more than anybody else when it comes to that division?
Chris Cuomo
I'll tell you who bothers me the most when I think about this.
Kamala Harris
Me.
Chris Cuomo
Because I have a platform and I make a choice in terms of how I allow the game to be played, how I expose the game, how I don't. And I should have done this. I should have been doing this all along. Now, look, this is a beast tonight. I don't know how we're going to pull this off with all these different play. I'm going to lean on your considerable communication skills tonight to make sure that we give everybody a voice. But we got to be talking to people that we don't agree with on the regular. And we got to be exposing that. What the parties are doing, and I'm not saying they're the same. I don't believe Kamala Harris and Donald Trump represent equal offsetting options. I think that he is a unique negative in our society, let alone our politics. But it doesn't matter. People will make their choice. And it being such a deadlock situation shows that it's not as simple as that. But I blame myself. The parties do what works for them. Okay. The media does what gets you clicks will get you paid. Politicians do what get you votes. Okay? I have a choice about how I do my job. And I'm at a place at News Nation where that's all they want is bridges. And I need to build more Chris Cuomo.
Stephen A. Smith
I want to get to Kamala Harris for a second, our vice president. She held a rally at the Ellipse, the place where Trump spoke on January 6, 2021, to an estimated 70,000 supporters, I might add. This is. This is before the insurrection has stormed the Capitol, of course. Your thoughts on the venue that was chosen last night and her performance?
Chris Cuomo
Right venue, wrong message. Now, look again.
Stephen A. Smith
Again.
Chris Cuomo
You want me to put on my Cuomo hat for a second? If I were talking to my brother and he was running a race.
Stephen A. Smith
Okay, right.
Chris Cuomo
Missed.
Stephen A. Smith
Why?
Chris Cuomo
Because her best sell proposition is Trump is dangerous. Now, I personally don't believe that's enough to win the election. Last night was billed as I have a to do list. He has an enemies list. I'm looking to get to work. He wants to get even. Okay, I like that. That's clever. But then she spent the first 15 minutes saying about why the guy's so bad. Where was the message about what you're going to do? Nobody expects details on plans, Stephen. Everybody knows once you get in there, you got to start negotiating. It's all about what the Congress will allow. Everybody gets that. But you can make the choice of talking about things in terms of the affirmative and what you're going to do and what you're for. She didn't make that choice. Now, again, if you want me to compare her to Trump, yeah, she's still more positive. She's still less of a liar. She's still, you know, better about the realities. But if this is a grievance election, I think it's his to lose. Why don't I just say he's going to win? Because he can lose it. He's so divisive, he's so unlikable that that could Swing it. But it being this close, if Nikki Haley was the nominee for the Republicans, I bet you should be up eight points. So it's close for a reason. I don't think her closing argument was her best argument, but I could be wrong. Because if all that matters is winning, maybe that's get her. Maybe that's what gets the energy where she needs to debate.
Stephen A. Smith
Speaking of divisiveness, though, and I think utter stupidity, Trump's Sunday night Madison Square Garden rally was supposed to provide a closing argument against Kamala Harris. Instead, the event is making waves for comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, calling Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage, talking about carving watermelons with black men and disparaging Harris himself. It's hard to put into words how ridiculous, how incendiary and how divisive that is. Why don't you try for me?
Chris Cuomo
Look, they knew what they would get with Tony Hinchcliffe. This is not new material. I don't think it's fair to say he did this for Trump. This is what he does. I've heard a lot of those jokes before, whether you think they're funny or they're not. Time, place and manner. Wrong time to have a takedown expert like Tony if you want to unite the country. So Tony Hincliff is what he is, does what he does. Trump made the choice. He said, I don't know him. He always says that. He says that about David Duke. He says it about everybody all the time. You know, if it's bad, he doesn't know if it's good. There is best friend and just be. He just needs to be honest about what he is.
Stephen A. Smith
Okay.
Chris Cuomo
Donald Trump is okay with the message that some are less than and some are a threat and some are dangerous. And that's what it was about. Is it a big deal? No. No bigger deal than Biden calling his supporters garbage. It's all baked in already. People know how we feel about each other.
Stephen A. Smith
With that being said, how are you gonna handle Tonight when Bill O'Reilly is coming to the defense of Donald Trump and saying that he's far, far, far more qualified than Kamala Harris? I know that you're, you know, you're the host of the show. You'll be dealing with folks in a town hall setting or what have you. How do you plan on dealing with that, Mr. Chris Cuomo?
Chris Cuomo
That's why I got you, Stephen A.
Stephen A. Smith
Me. Me. I'm not you.
Kamala Harris
That's it.
Chris Cuomo
That's it. Well, you think you're just there to look good. You just arm can to get on my date. That's why you're there. That's why Geraldo's there. That's why Cuban's there. That's why Roana is coming on. That's why Jared Moskowitz is coming on. That's why the audience is there. It's got to be a conversation. I take on that man every Wednesday night. So it's not just about me and him. It's got to be about the week. It's got to be bigger than that. And we've got it. We've got it set up for exactly that. So gonna be good.
Stephen A. Smith
Don't go anywhere. The one and only Chris Comer right here with Stephen A. Smith will be back with more in a minute. Let me just take a second to make sure that everybody out there knows here at the Stephen A. Smith Show I'm in it to win it. And I demand nothing short of excellence. No question about that. And that is why we have decided to team up with prizepix, America's number one fantasy sports app with over 3 million members, to help turn all my sports knowledge into some big time cash. You see, Prize Picks is a daily fantasy app where you just choose two, three or even up to six players from your favorite sports teams and then pick more or less on their projected stats for the game. You like Josh Allen, Pick em. You like Giancarlo Stan, Pick them too. You like Klay Thompson, then pick all three, damn it. It takes less than 60 seconds to make your picks and then you sit back and watch the winnings roll right in. And get this. Sign up with code SAS and prize picks will give you $50 instantly when you play your first $5 lineup. You don't need to win your lineup to receive the $50 bonus. It's guaranteed. All you have to do is play a $5 lineup on prize, but you'll get $50 instantly. Prize picks pick more, pick less. It's really that easy. So let's get started with NFL Week 8 and the headlines from Week 8. Of course, of course. We'll get right to it with my next guest. He joins us every week on the show. He's a Hall of Famer. All he did was catch touchdown passes. We know what a big time player he was. He's just struggling whenever he's debating against me. Okay, got it. Now, if you didn't notice, usually Kris Carter's on every week now. There was some technical difficulties. And that's true. And that's one side of the story. Here's the other side. The brother been a little bit harder to find since the Minnesota Vikings lost the last two weeks. I think it's important to let the audience know that I think it's important to let the audience know that since he was waving the damn Vikings jersey and all of this other stuff. They lost two straight and that's part of the reason that the brother's hard to find. I'm talking about the one and only Chris Carter. What's going on bro? How you doing man? You all right? You all right?
Kamala Harris
Hey bro. I will admit it was a rough five days. I mean we ran into a historic Jared Goff with the Detroit Lions in Minnesota. I mean he played, he, he couldn't not complete a pass and Detroit is starting to come into their own. And then we go on a Thursday night to LA with the Rams and they get both their receivers back. Yes, rough five days but good news. We made the trade for Cam Robinson, left tackle with Jacksonville. We lost our starter all pro Darasol. Then we also lost the backer. So we're back. I'm back. We're gonna get a good win against Indianapolis this week. Joe Flacker gonna throw us a couple. So we're going to be right at six and two at the eight game mark and I would say for Vikings fans we'll be real, we'll be real excited. But haters like you will still keep hating six and two.
Stephen A. Smith
You know haters, I'm a fact based individual. Here's the bottom line cc. I'm looking at the Minnesota Vikings and you just said it. You just spelling doom. Let me spell it out for you more and and crystallize it more for you. I understand Sam Donald could play but you know what? He ain't Jared Goff. I understand that Jefferson and Addison and those boys are no joke but The Eagles got A.J. brown and Devontae Smith back and Saquon Barkley is that dude okay? San Francisco looked better albeit against Dallas and they about hopefully they're going to get Christian McCaffrey back soon. I mean it seems like Minnesota is just coming back to life. All right. If you look and I didn't even bring up the watch the commanders. You seen that brother date Jaden Daniels with the commanders. What do you have to say about this brother? Is he your leading candidate for mvp?
Kamala Harris
Well right now he's the biggest surprise as far as the season and you don't expect a player even if he was the top pick in the draft and he wasn't, he was number two but Man, Dan Quinn runs a good operation. And sometimes when you can fall to a team just like CJ Stroud did, you get the right mix, the right quarterback coach around him, offensive coordinator and Cliff Kingsbury, and then he gets on the stage, and the stage is not too big for him. I think we are watching one of the best quarterbacks over the next 10 or 15 years as far as a dual threat. But he is a pocket passer, a great athlete. No, he's not. He's not, Lamar. He's not an old Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick, like he is that new quarterback that can sit in the court, in the pocket, complete 70% of his passes. And when I get out, I'm gone. I got say, unique talent.
Stephen A. Smith
Truth. Cc, I got to tell you this. You brought up Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick, I kind of think he looks better than they looked. As great. As much respect as I have for both of those brothers and what they were able to do on the football field. And I'm talking about strictly throwing the football, running the football, obviously, so they right up there. But throwing the football and being a pocket passer. I don't think Randall Cunningham and Michael Vick looked like this kid looks.
Kamala Harris
No. And the reason why I mentioned Lamar, because in speaking with Lamar, I told him that he was the 2024 version of those older versions. Randall Cunningham in the 80s and 90s was that version. Michael Vick, he upgraded that with the speed he was able to play at and the level he was able to play at in the NFL. But Lamar, the way he runs the ball, throws the ball, a couple MVPs already, but is not as accomplished passer as the Mahomes in the top five quarterback. So, yes, Jayleen has the ability to be everything he can be like Patrick Mahomes, where I am a pocket quarterback, but I'm lethal when I do leave the pocket. So, yes, all those things are correct. This is, you know, Randall Cunningham was the 90s version of a Mercedes. Michael Vick, 2000 version.
Stephen A. Smith
Okay.
Kamala Harris
Jaden is that new Maybach, but it's still a Mercedes.
Stephen A. Smith
It works. Cece, I want a very left for second. You saw this kid, Tyreek Stevenson, you saw this kid celebrating for the Chicago Bears against the Washington Commander fans as if he had already won the game. His back turned for a full four seconds while the Chicago Bears, while the Commanders. I'm sorry. Are running downfield to position themselves for that Hail Mary catch that ultimately was brought in. What did you make of that? What did you feel should have happened to that kid? In light of such a boneheaded play on his part.
Kamala Harris
Well, it's inexcusable. And I do think the fact that he addressed the team will help take away some of the things that the team is feeling, so at least they can talk about it. But, man, it's hard to win a game in the NFL. And when you single handed and it boils down to one play and you single handedly help the opposition by being distracted, by being very, very selfish, not acting like a veteran, like the game is still going on and the, the last play, it was a bad play. Right. But the play before that, where they allowed them to get out of bounds and throw the ball and not defend them like the defenders. The corner should have been standing 10 yards by the sideline, not 2 yards, 3 yards right on the sideline. So the quarterback would go, I can't throw the ball over there. We don't have any time out. So, you know, there was a number of things that Chicago did, but Stevenson, what he did, independent of all that, was the. Was the worst, was the worst. And as a team, you got to take away some of his money. You can't suspend him because it hurts the rest of the team, but you need to be able to hit his pocketbook where it hurts him, because that was one of the worst mistakes in losing a football game I've seen in the NFL.
Stephen A. Smith
What was worse, him doing that or Anthony Richardson, the second year quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, literally tapping out of the game because he was tired?
Kamala Harris
I never seen that one. I seen guys do stupid stuff. I've seen defensive backs try to go up, catch the ball. Ain't none of them got no hands. We have five DBs jumping. That's probably one set of hands between the five of them. They tapping the ball up compared to knocking it down, but.
Stephen A. Smith
Right.
Kamala Harris
I'm quitting. He actually tapped like a basketball player.
Stephen A. Smith
Yeah.
Kamala Harris
He actually tapped and said, come and come get me on third down.
Stephen A. Smith
Yes.
Kamala Harris
And then just being not even self aware to, oh, man, my rib cage. Oh, man, my back. Oh, I think I'm cramping up.
Chris Cuomo
Not.
Kamala Harris
Not even in a mindset. And this is what he said. Oh, I'm not going by. No, no, no, no, no, no. Lie to me. Because what you getting ready to say could be tragic as far as your career. You know, it speaks to lack of leadership, it speaks to lack of maturity, it speaks to lack of him being self aware, and it also speaks to the lack of grooming that he got at the University of Florida. He only Started a handful of games and they were not great at football at Florida when he was there.
Stephen A. Smith
That's right.
Kamala Harris
So now they get ready to give this guy a top five pick your franchise. And he. Oh, my goodness. I mean, I wonder what Pagan, Manning.
Stephen A. Smith
Oh, my Lord. Oh, my Lord. I mean. And they dealing with a lot because remember, Andrew Luck just all of a sudden retired on them. But at least he retired after taking an abundance of hits. And he said, I couldn't take it anymore. So he retired. But even that was alarming to people because nobody saw it coming. But having said all of that, are you supportive of the Indianapolis coach saying, you gonna sit on the bench? We gonna put Joe Flacco in as a starting quarterback this week?
Kamala Harris
He shouldn't.
Stephen A. Smith
He.
Kamala Harris
That's a visible offense right there when you admit doing something like that. And I'm glad that the franchise is not going to hold everyone hostage in that locker room because they got a chance to go sneak into the playoffs. And when you're around 500, man, every position is the best player except the quarterback. And now I see an Indy. Oh, man, this guy throwing 40% of his pass. We gotta put Flaco in. Shoot, Cleveland, they missed Flo from last year. Yes, the Colts, I do support what they did. Put that kid on the bench. It is not permanent. But for right now, he's going to be better off watching football. Now, it's not going to help him play better because his style is totally different than Jo Joe Flackam.
Stephen A. Smith
Right.
Kamala Harris
So they're going to have to form some other mechanism, be able to help him learn because in his second year, the game of football is still moving too fast for him.
Stephen A. Smith
Best team in the NFC right now is outside of the Detroit Lions or the second best team in the NFC is who?
Kamala Harris
I heard you talking about this. And. And I don't think it's the Philadelphia Eagles because I do think that their head coach got real, real problems. I would much rather take Washington and Dan Quinn and, and the new kid, the rookie at quarterback, than Philadelphia right now. I do believe that those other teams, the Eagles, the vikings and the 49ers, by the way, the Vikings have already smashed the 49ers, so they already hold the head to head. You know, I don't know what they're doing in Philadelphia that makes you think that they're the number two team. Like I think.
Stephen A. Smith
Difference maker. Saquon Barkley, A.J. brown, Devonte Smith back together with Jalen Hurts and a. A decent offensive line. Hell yes. I'm justifying that. What's the problem?
Kamala Harris
Okay, tell me this. What other skill group do you announce the running back? Oh, Barkley. Barkley's done. Barkley's killing it this year.
Stephen A. Smith
Absolutely.
Kamala Harris
Okay, what about A.J. okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. What about my man from Alabama? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then the fourth name. Say that again.
Stephen A. Smith
Devonte Smith.
Kamala Harris
Jayla, you said. You said that for. Because inconsistent, too. Him and the head coach are very inconsistent. And I don't believe. I do believe that him missing those offensive coordinators the last couple years is hurt Jaylen's development. He is not as good as he was two years ago. Okay, I agree with you on all the other players. They're outstanding. But the coach and the quarterback are not tied together. And that's. I don't understand the decision making when they go for it. Like, who's their analytics guy? Like, what the heck is going on? Because when I watch them, I get confused. Are they talented? Yes.
Stephen A. Smith
Let me go to stay in, or rather stay in the NFC east, where the Cowboys dropped another game in prime time. Of course, this time losing the flight. The 49ers. Like I mentioned earlier, the Cowboys are now three and four and three games back in the division. I can have a field day talking about what's wrong with this team, but I ain't the hall of Famer. You are. Tell the audience what the hell is wrong with these damn Cowboys.
Kamala Harris
Let them know it's mismanage from the top up. Man, like, you cannot put the same product out there last season and think that the product is going to be much improved. Guess what? The NFL has a book on the Dallas Cowboys. They are not that physically tough. And when Michael Parsons is out, they're only showing themselves on the defensive side. So you're starting to see the frustration through the players in the locker room with their comments biting off reporter's head. They just asking normal questions and everything. Jerry Jones, his color radio shows a week, if that don't destroy the team around. But by the way, by the way, you coming out the shower, you might see somebody that's on the tour so Jerry can make a little more money on a $10 billion empire, because that's what we do. Somebody might get a little peekaboo at you. Hey, how you doing, buddy? So it's dysfunction at its absolute highest.
Stephen A. Smith
Before I let you get on out of here, man, transition into the afc. Obviously, the Chiefs are undefeated. Their offense is still suspect, but their defense is elite. The best in the business right now, as far as I'm concerned. With Spagnola leading the way, the Baltimore Ravens have fell. Have fallen off precipitously. I'm very disgusted with what I've seen from them. Defensively. I think they've lost like eight leads in the last two minutes of regulation over the last season and a half or so. Makes no sense whatsoever. Can't stop anybody. Got Jameis Winston out there looking like the second coming to Joe Montana. So who I'm high on right now, looking at the AFC in terms of who's trajecting in the right direction, I would say the Buffalo Bills, because Josh Allen is just looking like a stud and they've acquired Amari Cooper. And I would say my Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Mr. Russell Wilson himself. I like what I'm seeing from the Steelers. I like what I'm seeing from that defense led by T.J. watt. I'm liking the receivers giving you the impression, yo, we know we go get the ball when Russ is out there, when Justin Fields is out there, he can make things happen, but it's primarily with his feet instead of his arm. So we're very happy that Russell Wilson is our quarterback. Right now, I'm feeling the Steelers a little bit. The first place Steelers in the AFC North. What do you say to that?
Kamala Harris
First of all, I told you so. What I encouraged you when Russell's even hurt, I. I told you that the Steelers ceiling was higher with Russell Wilson than Justin Fields. Justin Fields was my guy from Ohio State. But his inability to throw the ball with timing and the passing game. I'm going to tell you something, man. My career came alive when we got Warren Mo. And I'm not trying to compare.
Stephen A. Smith
You got who?
Kamala Harris
When you got Wilson to Warren Moon.
Stephen A. Smith
Okay.
Kamala Harris
My career came alive because quarterbacks that can throw the ball on an elite level, they make the receivers better. Have you seen a better version of George Pickett in his career? I have not been in two games with Russell Wilson.
Stephen A. Smith
I have not. But then again, that ain't saying much. I mean, the four quarterbacks you're talking about is Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubitsky, and now Justin Fields.
Kamala Harris
Yeah, but most of those, when you're dealing with a wide receiver because he's got an attitude, they've had problems with him off the field. You need a grown man in there throwing him the ball and talking to him. And you can start to see that on the field. If this kid reaches his potential and he'll only do it with the quarterback that can throw the ball down the field, that Moon ball helps Those back shoulder fades, they show so much confidence in him. Watches their relationship grows through the month of November and December getting ready for the playoffs. So the Pittsburgh Steelers are a frightening team. No one wants to go play them in Pittsburgh. And that defense, we know it travels with. And I do believe that this is Mike Tomlins best team that he's had the last eight to 10 years. So I'm looking for big things from the Pittsburgh Steelers and a lot of that is because the change in the confidence that Mike Tomlin had in Russell Wilson, knowing that they have real super bowl aspirations with him under the center compared to Justin Fields and our margin of error is a lot smaller.
Stephen A. Smith
My last comment before my last question before I let you go, bro. I'm going to transition to college football because I had Deion Sanders as my coach of the year. Now I'm watching Indiana, which Mad Dog Russo brought up to me earlier on national television. At Indiana they are eight and oh, in college, Nettie, the head coach, they've been doing their things. They're eight and oh, they're undefeated. I'm looking at some of the victories. Ucla, Maryland, Northwestern, Nebraska, Washington. It was in the national title game last year. They beat all of these teams. They're eight and oh, credit where credit is due. But they weren't projected to finish 11th in the Big 12. They weren't projected to finish 11th in their own conference. I'm looking at Travis Hunter as a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy. I'm looking at Shador Sanders, who's going to be an elite quarterback picked in the upcoming NFL draft. And I think this brother is a Heisman Trophy candidate as well. But with the job that Prime Time Deion Sanders has done, even though I understand you can make an argument for Indiana, I can't say enough about what prime has done. What about you?
Kamala Harris
Well, first of all, the Indiana story is a great story. It is. It's the best Indiana football team in history, in the history of the university. The coach comes over from James Madison. He bought a number of players with him and the way he attacked the transfer portal was very, very successful. So you need to go give them some credit now. They really haven't beaten anyone in the Big Ten yet. They got some headliners coming at the end of the season and the back end of the Big Ten is a little weaker than we thought with usc, Washington, those teams aren't as good as we expected. The team that you should also be mentioning is Arnold. Army's undefeated. I think they play Air Force this weekend A chance to go eight, nine. To know like, they. They're an unbelievable story. I think they have 60 players with three or four years of experience. You know, I work in player development at Florida Atlantic University. They beat us earlier in the year. They are a great operation. And how they attack it in the transport portal. When these kids are soldiers, man, it's a. It's an amazing story. But the best story is Deon said and when you get the type of talent that he got in his son and, and. And. And Travis Hunter, you have to be able to get the wine from the grape. Both of these guys would be top five pips. And that's a credit to DL. These kids believed in him. They traveled with him to Jackson State, traveled over to Colorado, and for him, with all the criticism he got with the transport portal to attack the portal again. He's got one of my good buddies there, Warren Sapp, working with the kids on the defensive line. I talked to him last week. They have been game changers as far as their physicality. The last couple weeks, they start running the ball. I tell people, man, don't get caught up in the fluff of Dion. Dion was always a brilliant, brilliant football player. People never want to give him credit for his football mind. How he understands the game and relatability is the number one thing in college football right now. And there is no coach that is connected more to his playlist than Deion Sant. That's one of his gifts that God gave him is that connectability to young people.
Stephen A. Smith
And I agree with you. He's going to have a lot to prove once his son departs, because the connectability factor that you just brought up is a hell of a lot easier to have with your son than it's going to be to have with others. But we both know Prime Time's personality, and he can relate to anybody, but especially the youth of America. No doubt about that. But I'll throw this at you for Indiana and just going out. Not a question, just a statement. I just looked at the stats here. The last time Indiana football has won more than eight games in a season was in 1967, the year I was born.
Kamala Harris
Oh, yeah.
Stephen A. Smith
Damn. Yeah. That is a great story.
Kamala Harris
No, he's doing a job.
Stephen A. Smith
No doubt. Cece. Got to get out of here. Got to bounce it out of it. It's nice to see you back in the States. It's nice to see you away from London and Paris. It's nice to see you not hiding anymore that your Minnesota Vikings were struggling. I hope they get back on a winning track for you, because we know you ain't all right when they lose it. All right, now get the hell on out of here. We'll talk next week, my brother. Love you, man. Coming up, the Lakers are balling. And did y'all see the statue they unveiled for the Wayne Wade in Miami? I'll get into all of that and a little bit more next right here on the Stephen A. Smith Show. There's a lot going on. Like, I don't know if you guys know this, but there's literally a floating.
Kamala Harris
Iron island of garbage in the middle.
Chris Cuomo
Of the ocean right now.
Stephen A. Smith
Yeah, I think it's called Puerto Rico.
Kamala Harris
Heck, yeah, it's cool.
Stephen A. Smith
Black guy with a thing on his head.
Kamala Harris
What the hell is that?
Stephen A. Smith
A lampshade?
Kamala Harris
Look at this guy. Oh, my goodness.
Stephen A. Smith
Wow.
Kamala Harris
I'm just kidding. That's one of my buddies. He had a Halloween party last night. We had fun. We carved watermelons together. It was awesome.
Stephen A. Smith
You see, that was the comedian that spoke at the whole Trump rally at msg. And it's a tricky scenario because when you're being comedic, when you're being. When you're literally a professional comedian, you almost want to give the impression that anything goes. Equal opportunity offenders, all of that other stuff. But we all know these are different times, and we all know that the election is a different matter. And when you see that, there's nothing to deduce from that other than to say it's utter bullshit. Why would you do something like that? And ultimately, Trump is responsible because it's your rally, and you want to make sure that you denounce such things, which he did not do as of the time that we were taping this show. He did not do that. Okay. And so as a result of that, it's one of those situations that you look at and you say, clearly, you just don't give a damn about how anybody else feels. You're going to do what you want to do. You offend Puerto Ricans, so be it. You offend black folks with the watermelon comments, so be it. You offend anybody else, so be it. And Nikki Haley, former Republican GOP presidential candidate, spoke out against the Trump campaign, saying, you don't do stuff like that. It's counterproductive. So some people do get it. It's just unnecessary. Yes, it was the comedian. No, it was not Donald Trump, but it was your rally, Donald Trump. Why would you allow that to happen? Because that's where the fear comes into play when we think about his presidency, in the eyes of some independents and clearly folks on the left, it's that you don't give a shit. So if you don't care about things along those lines as a candidate, what are you really going to care about once you're back in power? And then the divisiveness comes into play because you have people who are highly supportive of you, and then you have them going up against people who are staunch critics, but also very, very fearful of what your behavior would lead to and who will be damaged by it. And that is the America that we're looking at if indeed Donald Trump gets back into the White House. It's just that simple. It's your choice. Six days from now, it's your choice. The choices aren't as simple as that, but that's a part of it. Why do unnecessary stuff? Why? Let me get back to sports. We're going to start in college basketball. Because if you don't know the name Cooper Flagg, trust me when I tell you this, you will very soon. He's a 17 year old freshman phenom who will play for Duke this upcoming season and he's expected to be the first pick in the NBA draft this coming June. Ain't play a college game yet, and this coming June, he's already projected to be the number one overall pick in the NBA draft. That's kind of LeBron James kind of territory when he was coming out in 2003, you know what I'm saying? He also became the first men's college basketball player to sign as a Gatorade pitchman. He joins Paige Beckers and juju Watkins as the other college basketball stars attached to the brand. Remember, Paige Beckers is at UConn, Juju Watkins is at USC. They're both phenomenal female players in the sport of basketball. And you've got this kid right here. Listen, we live in a different age. It's the age of the transfer portal, nil, et cetera, et cetera. I'm going to say it one more time for y'all the way NCAA has exploited and taken advantage of the student athlete. I am all for the student athlete getting as much as they can whenever they can. This dude Cooper flag ain't play a game yet. But the brother is so nice. From everything that I've been hearing, we're expecting to see spectacular things from this brother at Duke this upcoming season. Can't wait. And because of those projections, the fact that Gatorade has already bought in, Lord knows who else will buy in. The bottom line is his talents. Warrant it because you're projecting what he will be based off of what you've already seen. It's called the resume. That brother has won and I can't wait to see him ball. Let's get to the NBA because I want to give early season props to the Lakers and the Golden State warriors in Los Angeles. My buddy, the one and only J.J. redick, head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, has gotten them off to a 31 start with Anthony Davis averaging 3212 a game. As for the warriors, they're also 31 and found a way to beat the Pelicans last night without Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins. I like what I'm seeing from the warriors in terms of they've got a bevy of young dudes that they can throw out there. That basically offsets the need for a Steph Curry in terms of him playing an abundance of minutes. Instead of playing 35, 37 minutes a night, you might only need him for 30 half the time because these young thoroughbreds are getting out on the court, giving you a lead, helping you win games, keeping you in the mix, whatever the case may be. I think that's very important for him and Draymond. So as the playoffs approach, their bodies are as fresh as they possibly can be and those young thoroughbreds are riding them to that level. I like what I'm seeing from Golden State. In the case of Anthony Davis, he looks all world and JJ Redick is paying attention to detail, holding cats accountable, getting in guys faces, letting them know what he needs. He's detailed, oriented, he's a basketball savant, very, very smart. As a basketball mind, I can attest to that. And if he zeroes in on that and it elevates the play of D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves, look out for the Lakers, look out for the Lakers. Staying in the NBA. We'll go to Miami, where Dwyane Wade became the first Miami Heat player to have a statue outside the team's arena. Miami unveiled the statue earlier this week, about eight months after team president Pat Riley announced plans for the tribute. The statue eventually went viral on social media as fans questioned its likeness to Dwayne Wade himself. Look, you can't see me. If you look to the right of that screen there, I'm there. I was in attendance for the unveiling. I was invited by the Wade family and what have you. I've known the brother for years. I got a lot of love for him. He's one of the best human beings I've ever covered. I said human beings, we know what he was as a basketball player. He's really, really a great dude. And I'm so happy for him and proud of him to have that statue. And I love the fact that it wasn't at some practice facility. It's right at the arena. You're walking by it all the time when you're going to Miami Heat games. I love all of that. But I heard the criticism from Charles Barkley, I've heard the criticism from others about how it needs to be altered or they need to take it down or whatever the case may be because it doesn't look much like him. I didn't mind the pose myself because that's D. Wade hitting, winning the game and talking about jumping on the score table is my house. This is my house. That was him. But I do think that the face had him looking very, very old. I do think that the person that did the statue could have done a much, much better job of depicting how Dwayne Wade looks. Nevertheless, having said all of that, let that not take away from what the moment is really, really supposed to be about. It's supposed to be about the greatest play in the history of the franchise, who's a three time champion, who is responsible for recruiting LeBron James to come there when they went to four straight NBA Finals. No one has done more for the Miami Heat organization than Dwyane Wade himself. And so he definitely deserved the statue. They might just need to go back up in there and alter the face to make it look considerably younger, that's all. That's my take on it. Most people don't think it looks like him at all. That's your business. I just think they need to get make it look a little bit younger, that's all. So let's go to the big screen before I get on out of here because I want to take care. I want to address some of your tweets because I know y'all like to send a lot of tweets to me and what have you. So let's just get right to it. All right. At randommclevent. Right? Stephen A. Smith, who do you think would win in a 2 on 2 wrestling match? Chicken Little and Alvin or Stuart Little and Simon? Hmm. You know something when it comes to mouses and stuff like that, I don't know. I don't know. I'm just gonna get a make a guess here. All right, I'm gonna go with Stuart Little and Simon. I have no idea why I'm making this Election. I have no idea why you all ask me these silly ass questions, but I'm game. I'm game for it. I'll go with Stuart Little and Simon on this one. Next tweet, please give it to me at Gordon Johnson. 19, right? Stephen A. Smith at one point. Is a receding hairline a crime? I don't know. I just know I'm venturing towards that. I'm willing to admit it, you know what I'm saying? But I am 57. I think I look pretty damn good for being 57 years of age. Hell, I think I look good for being in my 40s if I was. But that's just me. Either way you slice it, you know, if you got some hair on your head, you can hold onto it now, it shouldn't be back to the middle of my damn forehead and stuff like that. You understand what I'm saying? But I wish my hairline was about 2 inches forward, I give you that. But it don't mean I don't believe I don't look good. I mean, I kind of do, I should say so myself. I think I'm all right. I think I'm all right. And oh, by the way, I'm not knocking anybody else's flavor or anything like that, but when it comes to me, I never hear ladies complaining about my hairline. Never. It's always guys. And only speaking for myself. I don't give a shit how a guy thinks I look. I just want to make sure I'm clear about that. Next tweet, please give it to me at Meekin. Jacob write. Stephen A. Smith. Do you like the show, Young Sheldon? I've watched it a couple of times. I've watched it a couple. I shouldn't say a couple of times more than a couple times. A few times. It's actually kind of entertaining. I'm not going to lie about that. I've liked it. It's okay. You know what I'm saying? It's not Frasier, which I used to love. Okay? It's, it's not, it's, it's nothing like that. But I've liked the show. I really, really do. It's not Family Matters either or anything like that, you know, it's not a couple of shows that I like, but it's okay. It's good for kids, I'll say that much. That's it for this edition of the Stephen A.

The Stephen A. Smith Show – October 31, 2024
Release Date: October 31, 2024 | Host: Stephen A. Smith and iHeartPodcasts
