All he did was catch touchdown passes. We know what a big time play he was. He's just struggling whenever he's debating against me. Okay. God did not if you didn't notice. Usually Kris Card is on every week now. There was some technical difficulties and that's true. And that's one side of the story. Here's the other side. The brother been a little bit harder to find since the Minnesota Vikings lost the last two weeks. I think it's important to let the audience know that. I think it's important to let the audience know that since he was waving the damn Vikings jersey and all of this other stuff. They lost two straight. And that's part of the reason that the brother's hard to find. I'm talking about the one and only Chris Carter. What's going on, bro? How you doing, man? You all right? You all right?

Hey, bro, I will admit it was a rough five days. I mean, we ran into a historic Jared Golf with the Detroit Lions in Minnesota. I mean, he played, he, he couldn't not complete a pass. And Detroit is starting to come into their own. And then we go on a Thursday night to LA with the Rams and they get both their receivers back. Yes. Rough five days, but good news, we made the trade for Cam Robinson left tackle with Jacksonville. We lost our starter all pro dasol then we also lost the backer. So we're back. I'm back. We're gonna get a good win against Indianapolis this week. Joe Flacker going throw us a couple so we're going to be right at six and two at the eight game mark and I would say for Vikings famous we'll be real, we'll be real excited but haters like you will still keep hating haters.

I'm a fact based individual. Here's the bottom line cc. I'm looking at the Minnesota Vikings and you just said it. You just spelling doom. Let me spell it out for you more and crystallize it more for you. I understand Sam Donald could play but you know what he ain't Jared Goff. I understand that Jefferson and Addison and those boys are no joke. But The Eagles got A.J. brown and Devontae Smith back and Saquon Barkley is that dude okay? San Francisco looked better albeit against Dallas and they about hopefully they're going to get Christian McCaffrey back soon. I mean it seems like Minnesota is just coming back to life. All right, if you look and I didn't even bring up the watch the commanders. You seen that brother Jaden Daniels with the commanders. What do you have to say about this brother? Is he your leading candidate for mvp?

[Chris Carter]

Well, right now he's the biggest surprise as far as the season and you don't expect a player even if he was the top pick in the draft and he wasn't, he was number two. But man, Dan Quinn runs a good operation and sometimes when you can fall to a team just like CJ Stroud did, you get the right mix, the right quarterback coach around him, offensive coordinator and Cliff Kingsbury and then he gets on the stage and the stage is not too big for him. I think we are watching one of the best quarterbacks over the next 10 or 15 years as far as a dual threat. But he is a pocket passer, a great athlete. No, he's not. He's not Lamar. He's not an old Randall Cunningham Michael Vick like he is that new quarterback that can sit in the court in the pocket, complete 70% of his passes and when I get out, I'm gone. I got unique talent. Truth.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Cece, I got to tell you this. You brought up Randall Cunningham Michael Vick, I kind of think he looks better than they looked. As great. As much respect as I have for both of those brothers and what they were able to do on the football field And I'm talking about strictly throwing the football, running the football, obviously, so they right up there. But throwing the football and being a pocket passer. I don't think Randall Cunningham and Michael Vick looked like this kid looks.

[Chris Carter]

No. And the reason why I mentioned Lamar, because in speaking with Lamar, I told him that he was the 2024 version of those older versions. Randall Cunningham in the 80s and 90s was that version. Michael Vick, he upgraded that with the speed he was able to play at and the level he was able to play at in the NFL. But Lamar, the way he runs the ball, throws the ball a couple MVPs already, but is not as accomplished passer as the Mahomes in the top five quarterback. So, yes, Jamie has the ability to be everything. He can be like Patrick Mahomes, where I am a pocket quarterback, but I'm lethal when I do lead the pocket. So, yes, all those things are correct. This is, you know, Randall Cunningham was the 90s version of a Mercedes. Michael Vic 2000 version. Okay, Jaden is that new Maybach, but it's still a Mercedes.

[Stephen A. Smith]

It works. Cece, I want a very left for a second. You saw this kid, Tyreek Stevenson, you saw this kid celebrating for the Chicago Bears, you know, against the Washington Commander fans, as if he had already won the game, his back turned for a full four seconds, while the Chicago Bears, while the Commanders, I'm sorry, are running downfield to position themselves for that Hail Mary catch that ultimately was brought in. What did you make of that? What did you feel should have happened to that kid in light of such a boneheaded play on his part?

[Chris Carter]

Well, it's inexcusable. And I do think the fact that he addressed the team will help take away some of the things that the team is feeling. So at least they can talk about it. But man, it's hard to win a game in the NFL. And when you single handed and it boils down to one play and you single handedly help the opposition by being distracted, by being very, very selfish, not acting like a veteran, like the game is still going on and the, the last play, it was a bad play, right? But the play before that where they allowed them to get out of bounds and throw the ball and not defend them like the defenders, the corner should have been standing 10 yards by the sideline, not 2 yards, 3 yards, right on the sideline so the quarterback would go, I can't throw the ball over there. We don't have any time out. So, you know, there was a number of things in Chicago did. But Stevenson, what he did, independent of all that, was the. Was the worst. Was the worst. And as a team, you got to take away some of his money. You can't suspend him because it hurts the rest of the team. But you need to be able to get his pocketbook where it hurts him because that was one of the worst mistakes in losing a football game I've seen in the NFL.

[Stephen A. Smith]

What was worse, him doing that or Anthony Richardson, the second year quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, literally tapping out of the game because he was tired?

[Chris Carter]

I never seen that one. I've seen guys do stupid stuff. I've seen defensive backs try to go up and catch the ball. Ain't none of them got no hands. We have five DBs jumping. That's probably one set of hands between the five of them. They tapped the ball up compared to knocking it down, but.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Right.

[Chris Carter]

I'm quitting. He actually tapped like a basketball player. Yeah. He actually tapped and said, come and come get me on third down.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Yes.

[Chris Carter]

And then just being not even self aware to. Oh, man, my rib cage. Oh, man, my back. Oh, I think I'm cramping up. Not. Not even in a mindset. This is what he said. Oh, I'm not going by. No, no, no, no, no, no. Lie to me. Because what you getting ready to say could be tragic as far as your career. You know, it speaks to lack of leadership. It speaks to lack of maturity. It speaks. It speaks to lack of him being self aware. And it also speaks to the lack of grooming that he got at the University of Florida. He only started a handful of games and they were not great at football at Florida when he was there.

That's right.

So now they get ready to give this guy a top five pick, your franchise. And he. Oh, my goodness. I mean, I wonder what Peyton Manning.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Oh, my Lord. Oh, my Lord. And they dealing with a lot because remember, Andrew Luck just all of a sudden retired on them. But at least he retired after taking an abundance of hits. And he said, I couldn't take it anymore. So he retired. But even that was alarming to people because nobody saw it coming. But having said all of that, are you supportive of the Indianapolis Colts saying, you going to sit on the bench, we going to put Joe Flacco in as a starting quarterback this week?

[Chris Carter]

He should he. That's a vegetable offense right there when you admit doing something like that. And I'm glad that the franchise is not going to hold everyone hostage in that locker room because they got a chance to go sneak into the playoffs. And when you're around 500, man, every position is the best player except the quarterback. And now I see an Indy. Oh, man, this guy throwing 40% of his passes. And we gotta put Flaco in. Shoot, Cleveland, they missed Flaco from last year. Yes, the Colts, I do support what they did. Put that kid on the bench. It is not permanent. But for right now, he's going to be better off watching football. Now, it's not going to help him play better because his style is totally different than George Joe Flacco. Right. So they're going to have to form some other mechanism to be able to help him learn because in his second year, the game of football is still moving too fast for him.

Best team in the NFC right now is outside of the Detroit Lions or the second best team in the NFC is who?

[Chris Carter]

I heard you talking about this and, and I don't think it's the Philadelphia Eagles because I do think that their head coach got real, real problems. I would much rather take Washington and Dan Quinn and, and the new kid, the rookie at quarterback than Philadelphia right now. I do believe that those other teams, the Eagles, the vikings and the 49ers, by the way, the Vikings have already smashed the 49ers, so they already hold the head to head. You know, I don't know what they're doing in Philadelphia that makes you think that third is number two team.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Like, I think Saquon Barkley's a difference maker. Saquan Barkley, AJ Brown, devonte Smith back together with Jaylen Herz and a. A decent offensive line. Hell yes, I'm justifying that. What's the problem?

[Chris Carter]

Okay, tell me this. What other skill group do you announce the running back? Oh, Barkley. Barkley's. Barkley's killing it this year. Absolutely. Okay, what about A.J. okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, what about my man from Alabama? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then the fourth name. Say that again.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Devonte Smith.

[Chris Carter]

Jayla, you said that for. Because he's inconsistent too. Him and the head coach are very inconsistent. And I don't believe. I do believe that him missing those offensive coordinators the last couple years is hurt. Jalen's development. He is not as good as he was two years ago. Okay, I agree with you on all the other players. They're outstanding. But the coach and the quarterback are not tied together. And that's. I don't understand the decision making when they go for it. Like, who's their analytics guy? Like, what the heck is going on? Because when I watch them I get confused. Are they talented? Yes.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Let me go. To stay in, or rather stay in the NFC east, where the Cowboys dropped another game in prime time. Of course, this time losing the 49ers. Like I mentioned earlier, the Cowboys are now 3 and 4 and 3 games back in the division. I can have a field day talking about what's wrong with this team, but I ain't the hall of Famer.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Tell the audience what the hell is wrong with these damn Cowboys.

[Chris Carter]

Let them know it's mismanage from the top up. Man, like, you cannot put the same product out there last season and think that the product was going to be much improved. Guess what? The NFL has a book on the Dallas Cowboys. They are not that physically tough. And when Michael Parsons is out, they're only showing themselves on the defensive side. So you're starting to see the frustration through the players in the locker room with their comments biting off the reporter's head. They just asking normal questions and everything. Jerry Jones, his color radio shows a week, if that don't destroy the team around. But by the way, by the way, you coming out the shower, you might see somebody that's on the tour so Jerry can make a little more money on a $10 billion empire, because that's what we do. Somebody might get a little peekaboo at you. Hey, how you doing, buddy? So it's dysfunction at its absolute highest.

[Stephen A. Smith]

Before I let you get on out of here, man, transition into the afc. Obviously, the Chiefs are undefeated. Their offense is still suspect, but their defense is elite, the best in the business right now, as far as I'm concerned. With Spagnola leading the way, the Baltimore Ravens have fell, have fallen off precipitously. I'm very disgusted with what I've seen from them defensively. I think they've lost like eight leads in the last two minutes of regulation over the last season and a half or so. Makes no sense whatsoever. Can't stop anybody. Got Jameis Winston out there looking like the second coming to Joe Montana. So who I'm high on right now, looking at the AFC in terms of who's trajecting in the right direction, I would say the Buffalo Bills, because Josh Allen is just looking like a stud. And they've acquired Amari Cooper. And I would say my Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Mr. Russell Wilson himself. I like what I'm seeing from the Steelers. I like what I'm seeing from that defense led by T.J. watt. I'm liking the receivers giving you the impression, yo, we know we go get the ball. When Russ is out there, when Justin Fields is out there, he can make things happen, but it's primarily with his feet instead of his arm.

[Chris Carter]

So.

[Stephen A. Smith]

So we're very happy that Russell Wilson is our quarterback. Right now I'm feeling the Steelers a little bit. The first place Steelers in the AFC North. What do you say to that?

[Chris Carter]

First of all, I told you so. What I encourage you when Russell's even hurt, I and I told you that the Steelers ceiling was higher with Russell Wilson than Justin Field. Justin Field was my guy from Ohio State. But his inability to throw the ball with timing and the passing game. I'm going to tell you something, man. My career came alive when we got Warren Buen. And I'm not trying to.

[Stephen A. Smith]

When you got who? When you got Warren Moon, okay?

[Chris Carter]

My career came alive because quarterbacks that can throw the ball on an elite level, they make the receivers better. Have you seen a better version of George Pickett in his career? I have not been in two games with Russell Wilson.

[Stephen A. Smith]

I have not. But then again, that ain't saying much. I mean, the four quarterbacks you're talking about is Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Jabitsky and now Justin Fields.

[Chris Carter]

Yeah, but most of those, when you're dealing with the wide receiver because he's got an attitude, they've had problems with him off the field. You need a grown man in there throwing him the ball and talking to him. And you can start to see that on the field. If this kid reaches his potential and he'll only do it with the quarterback that can throw the ball down the field, that Moon ball helps those back shoulder fades. They show so much confidence in him. Watch as their relationship grows through the month of November and December. Getting ready for the playoffs. So the Pittsburgh Steelers are a frightening team. No one wants to go play them in Pittsburgh. And that defense, we know, it travels with. And I do believe that this is Mike Thomas best team that he's had the last eight to 10 years. So I'm looking for big things from the Pittsburgh Steelers. And a lot of that is because the change in the confidence that Mike Tomlin had in Russell Wilson, knowing that they have real super bowl aspirations with him under the sun compared to Justin Fields. And our margin of error is a lot smaller.

[Stephen A. Smith]

My last comment before my last question before I let you go, bro. I'm going to transition to college football because I had Deion Sanders as my coach of the year. Now I'm watching Indiana, which Mad Dog Russo brought up to me earlier on national television. At Indiana, they are eight and oh, in college, Nettie, the head coach, they've been doing their things. They're eight and oh, they're undefeated. I'm looking at some of the victories. Ucla, Maryland, Northwestern, Nebraska, Washington, that was in the national title game last year. They beat all of these teams. They're eight and oh, credit where credit is due. But they weren't projected to finish 11th in the Big 12. They weren't projected to finish 11th in their own conference. I'm looking at Travis Hunter as a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy. I'm looking at Shador Sanders, who's going to be an elite quarterback picked in the upcoming NFL draft. And I think this brother is a Heisman Trophy candidate as well. But with the job that Prime Time Deion Sanders has done, even though I understand you can make an argument for Indiana, I can't say enough about what prime has done. What about you?

[Chris Carter]

Well, first of all, the Indiana story is a great story. It is. It's the best Indiana football team in history, in the history of the university. The coach comes over from James Madison. He bought a number of players with him and the way he attacked the transfer portal was very, very successful. So you need to go give them some credit now. They really haven't beaten anyone in the Big Ten yet. They got some headliners coming at the end of the season. And the back end of the Big Ten is a little weaker than we thought with usc, Washington. Those teams aren't as good as we expected. The team that you should also be mentioning is Army. Army's undefeated. I think they play Air Force this weekend. A chance to go eight, nine to know like they're unbelievable story. I think they have 60 players with three or four years of experience. You know, I work in player development at Florida Atlantic University. They beat us earlier in the year. They are a great operation. And how they attack it in the transfer portal, when these kids are soldiers, man, it's a, it's an amazing story. But the best story is Deion said and when you get the type of talent that he got in his son and, and, and, and, and Travis Hunter, you have to be able to get the wine from the grape. Both of these guys would be top five picks and that's a credit to D. These kids believed in him. They traveled with him to Jackson State, traveled over to Colorado, and for him, with all the criticism he got with the transport portal to attack the portal again. He's got one of my good buddies there, Warren Sapp, working with the kids on the defensive line, I talked to him last week. They have been game changers as far as their physicality. The last couple of weeks, they start running the ball. I tell people, man, don't get caught up in the fluff of Dion. Dion was always a brilliant, brilliant football player. People never want to give him credit for his football mind. How he understands the game and relatability is the number one thing in college football right now. And there is no coach that is connected more to his playlist than Deion Sanders. That's one of his gifts that God gave him is that connectability to young people.

[Stephen A. Smith]

And I agree with you. He's going to have a lot to prove once his son departs. Because the connectability factor that you just brought up, it's a hell of a lot easier to have with your son than it's going to be to have with others.
