Welcome to the Thyroid Fixer podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Amy and we're diving deep into the world of hormones, especially for all you fierce women in perimenopause and menopause and anyone dealing with hypothyroidism. If you're struggling with weight gain, you feel like shedding those pounds is an impossible feat. If you're dealing with plummeting energy levels, gut wrenching fatigue, or a libido that seems to have left town, then you're in the right place. And don't even get me started on the hair loss. If these symptoms are sounding all too familiar, these sound your tribe. Welcome. Because my goal is to educate, empower and shake up your world. I want you to embrace every inch of that badass woman that you truly are. So if you're ready to dive in and fix things, let's get started. I feel so much stronger in my workouts and I legit feel like I recover quicker from my workouts because I am now using every single day might appear. So when I dive into what does Mitocure do? How is this actually helping me? And sometimes I won't even look at what a supplement does. I'll just use it because I want to actually experience the results and then go back and say, okay, here's what I feel, here's what I notice. How is it doing it? So after feeling stronger, noticing that I'm recovering so much faster and especially with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, you know your recovery is much lower than everyone else's with regular use. I started to see and feel the difference in my energy levels and in my workouts. So I was stronger, I had more endurance where I would normally, let's say, poop out at burpee number 10, I was actually able to do burpee number 20 and not feel like I was dying. So the endurance is up. And the other thing I noticed when I dove into the literature on my to pure is that it really does deliver double digit increases in muscle strength and guess what? Endurance without actually changing your exercise. So total win, complete and total win. It's working at cellular renewal, it's working on your mitochondrial health. But most of all for me, what I noticed immediately, better energy, steady through the day, strength, power, resiliency, better workouts, better recovery. Absolutely amazing. So if you want the most out of your workout, cause it's hard enough to get to the gym. So if you actually want the most out of your workout and you want your muscles to get the most out of your workout, then you gotta go and grab some Mitre Pure. So timeline, that makes Mitre pure, they're offering a 10% off your order. So you're gonna go to timeline.com forward/dromy D R A M I E and you're gonna use the code Dr. Amy. And that's it. 10% off. You gotta try it. So again, timeline T I M E L I N E.com D R A M I E. That's going to get you 10% off your order. Write me after, let me know how your workouts are. You are going to thank me. Did you know that there's actually a way to increase your basal metabolic rate? That is the amount of fat that you are burning. Literally just sitting here. So many of you are suffering with a very slow metabolism. You're doing all of the things to lose weight and nothing is happening. Or worse yet, the scale is going up. Well, with the addition of thyroid fixer that contains T2 and L tyrosine and coleus for scoli, all of which benefit the thyroid, all of which boost metabolism, all of which have been proven to increase fat burning. There's your answer. Add in thyroid fixer and you're getting an array of quality. Quality. I promise you, I've been studying this for 15 years. I bring nothing but the best to you. Quality ingredients 3, 5 dieto l thyroidine, which is T2. I have multiple podcasts on that. You can go back and listen. L tyrosine, which is required by the thyroid. It reduces stress. It helps the thyroid convert T4 to T3 coleus for school. That has been proven over and over again to increase fat burning. So you put that along with T2 that has its own human studies that show a decrease in body fat percent in just 28 days. Oh, and by the way, an improvement in your mitochondrial function, increasing ATP, which helps with your energy. Just add this in. Whether you are hypothyroid or not, this helps everyone. Yes, I called it thyroid fixer, but it helps every single person out there with a slow metabolism and it does not affect your thyroid function. It has no cardiovascular effects, is totally safe. Let this rock your world. It has been well over a year since I've had you on the show, Connie, and I'm so excited to have you back because there's been so much more information out there regarding detox and sauna and infrared and red and all the different light waves that I think it's important important for us to to revisit some points that we talked about before. But then let's dive deeper into more science and more information that's been coming out and all of the different benefits that we can get from all of these different spectrums of light in addition to sauna use and sweating and how that just benefits our body on so many different levels. So welcome back to the show.
Connie
Thank you. Thank you so much. I'm excited to be here.
Dr. Amy
So let's just start. I want to start high level for people because, you know, there's a lot of talk out there about detox. And detox is a really big umbrella word. And you could say detox and someone thinks about doing a Beyonce lemon juice cleanse or doing some, you know, $500 supplement protocol to detox. But it's so much more than that. And our bodies need so much more help in that whole detox process. So can you. And let's talk about what is detox as a word and what's the importance of it for our bodies?
Connie
Yeah. So what's great. So what is detox is. Answer that question. You know, it's like helping your body, you know, remove the toxic burden. And we can't help in the world we live in today. No matter how great you are in your choices in food and skin care products and using glass instead of plastics and, and doing, making all the right choices, even those people, you, you're exposed to 700,000 chemicals every day. You walk outside and you're just, you're exposed. And so that is absorbed into your body in all sorts of different ways. And you have to find ways to eliminate that toxic burden before it fills up. And then what I like to think of is like, then it starts to overflow. And when it overflows is when you become, you know, you can become really, really sick. And it can manifest into lots of different conditions. So many conditions are actually caused by, by increased toxic load. And one of the quickest ways that you want to do that is through detoxifying. And one of the, the best ways to do it in the most inclusive and comprehensive tools is by using the entire spectrum of infrared to promote detoxification.
Dr. Amy
Okay, so you mentioned before we get into the infrared and the different waves. Yeah, you mentioned the impact on the body. Now I know, of course, from, from my area of expertise that we see those environmental toxins that you just mentioned. And yes, we are exposed every single day. And I don't care how perfect you are, I personally live by that 8020 rule where I'm not going to drive myself insane checking every single Thing that goes in and on my body, I do for the most part. But 20% of the time, there's just leeway. You know, you're traveling, you're on a vacation. I like to get my nails done. I'm not going to stop coloring my hair. There are certain brands of makeup that just work for my skin, and I'm not going to go organic. Right. So there's that 20% that we are exposed to. And then you walk outside and you just don't have control over the air that you breathe or if the farmers are spraying the fields one mile away, like where I live. So we are all exposed to these toxic chemicals. And. And I know, because I see it every day in my practice, that it really starts to impact the endocrine system. So we will see a downregulation of thyroid function, which of course impacts metabolism and weight gain, weight loss, the ability to lose weight, your energy, really how all of your cells function. And then hormonal balance, as women are moving into perimenopause and menopause, become estrogen dominant because of the xenoestrogens. Again, in that 80, 20. That 20% of chemicals that we're exposed to are xenoestrogens, which can cause an estrogenic buildup in our bodies and in our cells. And we need to be detoxing and sweating and purging that out. So I see the impacts on the body. What else am I missing? I'm more in the endocrine system. But what else do you see from a health standpoint when people are not properly detoxing?
Connie
Yeah. So one of the biggest issues, and this is one of the hallmarks of aging, you know, is gut dysbiosis and, like, gut function. And so there's so many GI issues when people aren't properly detoxing and detoxes. I mean, you could detox your sweat, but you can also detox. I mean, a lot of it is through your organs. And if you're not specifically addressing the ways to help, you know, your livers and your kidneys and like, and really help everything change and remove the toxic burden, then it's building up. And so. So detox can lead to gut. I mean, gut issues is huge. It's such a condition to lead to accelerated aging. And I'm sure nobody that's listening to this does not want, you know, they do not want that. It can also cause detoxification, can lead to inflammation, which is also the number one cause of ag. So. And it could. I mean, it can Also lead to skin health. And like just having. If you have too many toxins, your skin just appears to be blotchy and not healthy and radiant like people want it to be because you've got so much stuff, you know, in your body. And they can. It can also lead to decreased energy, decreased sleep. Another huge one is your mental health, your cognitive function, because there's a lot of data showing that blood flow and really helps to promote cognitive function. And if everything isn't flowing correctly in your body, what I always like to think of as things as you have toxic buildup, you get stuck in certain areas. And our goal is to get, get so people do cleanses and they do different things. You know, it's to like, flow is to like, cause that flow in your body so that you get unstuck and you get everything moving again. So those are some of the addition things. Energy is a huge. I'm a huge energy fan. I mean, I'm in the business of energy, but I mean also just the physical energy helping people understand that that's such a great indicator that something is off. If you consistently have low energy. That's not the way. I mean, who wants to live their life like that? And that's a flag that you need to address.
Dr. Amy
See, this is interesting because again, when I'm coming at a problem, someone comes in, or one of my followers on Facebook, let's say, does a post, I have low energy. I have brain fog. I'm gaining weight. I get this weird creepiness in my skin. I feel like I've aged 10 years in the last month. My mind, of course, goes thyroid hormones. But this is interesting. This is opening up a different path that I can take with my patients and my followers as well is, well, wait a minute. It might be that you don't necessarily need more hormones. You might need to detox to be able to process those beautiful hormones that you do have or that you are taking because your pathways might be clogged. Am I hearing that right?
Connie
Yes, yes, yes. That makes me so happy to hear you say it. You articulated it so beautifully. And that's exactly what I'm talking about, is we need to clean the body so that our body absorbs the things that it needs. But if you just keep putting in stuff and your body is clogged and has things that it doesn't need or things that are actually hurting and harming your body and causing inflammation, causing skin irritation, causing all this, causing low energy and brain fog. It's the foundation, right? It's you Know like you think about your body as your house. You know, you need to have, you can keep adding on things to your house. You can like build on top of your house and add on additional floors, build. But man, if your foundation isn't solid, then it's eventually that house is going to like crumble. So you really, you have to start with your foundation and you know, invest in that and get that straight. And then you can start to add on, on the side and on the top and you know, different peripheral areas.
Dr. Amy
Oh, that makes so much sense. And I'm even thinking about nutrients as well and all of the different supplements that people take. And how many times have you seen, you know, that woman that either if she's walking into an office, she'll bring bags. When I had a brick and mortar office, I would have patients literally with grocery bags of supplements that they are taking now. I just see the list and sometimes the list I'm scrolling forever, it's like two, three pages long as people just are desperate to feel better. And I love supplements. Obviously I have my own company. They have a place and a purpose and they do things in the body. However, to your point, if you are not processing, if you're not metabolizing, if you don't have those pathways open, if you're not detoxing properly, and I guess the unscientific way of saying this is all your cells are gunked up and your pathways, if you think about roads and highways, they're just blocked. They have, they have broken down cars and garbage all along the road that you can't even pass through. How can those supplements get in and do their job if they can't flow? Right, right.
Connie
That's exactly right. I mean that is my, my message is we have to find ways to have our body be able to flow naturally like we did when we were kids and everything is working properly and everything we're unstuck, you know. So yeah, I love the non scientific way because that's exactly how I see it in my head, you know, is over time and especially if you start, especially those people who just keep adding on stuff and add on more. Oh, oh, I got read an article that I should take this supplement. I should take this. I should, oh my goodness, stop, stop the madness and like stop all of that and fix your foundation. Get your body clean and rid of as many toxins as possible so that you feel better and then start to add in things like one at a time and see if that makes a difference. You know, obviously with consulting Somebody who's an expert, you know, like yourself. So, yeah, I love your analogy and your visual because it's. That's exactly how I see it.
Dr. Amy
So we're actually saving people money today because they will love that. They won't be buying every supplement that comes across their IG feed. Now, they might actually stop and think about it first.
Connie
Right. Unless you are doing all your biomarkers, unless you're assessing everything on a regular basis and know exactly what's impacting what. You're just adding on stuff that your body, like you said, may not even be able to absorb. So that's a waste of money and time. And it could be like adding on potential, like, problems to your body because your body's not. If it doesn't absorb it, then what's it doing with it?
Dr. Amy
Right, Exactly. Well, in the case of hormones. Now, I know I mentioned this off air, but. But I want to bring this in and just kind of give people something to think about here. As women, we do hormone replacement therapy as we age. Hormones give us life. And that's great. Estrogen is a hormone that can very easily build up in our body and in our tissues. And we want. Even though we're taking in hormones, we want to be able to process them. So in the, in the whole hormone discussion, we often talk about adding fiber to make sure that you're pooping every day, because that's a way to detox. And the reason why we talk about that in relationship to estrogen is because we never want to get into that ongoing estrogen dominant state. Because estrogen is beautiful as it is for the body and as protective as it is, it is a growth hormone. So excess can produce growth, unwanted growth in the body, such as cancers. So we always want to have that balance of our hormones. And in order to achieve that balance, we have to be detoxing them. We have to be processing our hormones. And that's another. That's a. That's a more extreme reason why to focus on. On a good detox protocol. Not a lemon juice Beyonce protocol, but a good detox protocol so that, yes, not only are we getting rid of the toxins and the chemicals we're exposed to, we're helping with lowering our endocrine disruptor exposure. We are opening up those roadways and those pathways for nutrients, but we're also allowing our body to properly utilize those beautiful hormones that we're bringing in.
Connie
Exactly.
Dr. Amy
I just wanted to tag that on as well.
Connie
Yeah, no, that's perfect. That's perfect. Add on it's so it's so important. Just think about like, if you want to, if you really want to add on things into your body, make sure your body is ready for it. And, and one of the ways to get your body ready for it is through just natural detoxification. And there's many different ways to detoxify, of course, you know, with sunlight and you know, infrared. It's a great, it's a great way. It's not the only way, but it's a great way to help your organs remove the stuff that doesn't need, you know, help your skin to sweat and remove the stuff it doesn't need. And, and then you're ready, you know, to add on elements into your body.
Dr. Amy
And sweat really is the number one way to detox when, when they test sweat. And you'll know this more than I do, but isn't there something like. Now you had mentioned earlier, we're exposed to thousands and thousands of chemicals every day, toxins every day. But when we actually test sweat, aren't they actually finding thousands and thousands of toxic chemicals in that little drop of sweat?
Connie
Yeah, yeah. In the bus study, which sounds like what you're referring to, they measured the bus stands for blood, urine and sweat. What I think is fascinating about that study is you would think intuitively that you would, especially the blood, because I do a lot of biomarker testing and blood testing and just to make sure that everything is great. And you put so much value in. Well, there is, there's a lot of value in your, in your blood and your urine and what, what you're testing. Right, but in that study they found that the people who did not have mercury in either the blood and urine had mercury in their sweat. And it came up and it was 15% people did not have, and 100% of those 15 had mercury in their sweat. And that means such a powerful data point because a, it shows the power of sweat, but it also shows how that sometimes those toxins like a sweat's removing that, but also sometimes those toxins aren't showing up in other ways. It's just, it's a good reminder that all those ways to remove toxins, I mean, there's many different ways to do it, but all of them are good. And the best thing is if you can really focus on a comprehensive detoxification protocol. So making sure, you know, you're helping with your, all of your organs and you're, you're helping your body sweat, any type of promoting detoxification is going to get you To a better path for sure.
Dr. Amy
So on that topic of sweat, and this is going to lead into my next question of you breaking down the different wavelengths of light that we're exposed to. I shared with you before, I had a patient yesterday ask me, do I know of a good red light blanket? Like a red light blanket? No, I know like, you know those fifty thousand dollar tanning beds with red lights, but that's not what you're looking for there. I said, okay, why do you want. She goes, I want to sweat. Well, no, it's not a red light blanket that you want to sweat. It's like a portable sauna. And I said, I'm like, I know sunlight and has one that you just slide on in and you're going to sweat. And so essentially she thought that red light would make her sweat. So can you, passing that on to you, can you break down all of the different lights that we hear about infrared and red and near infrared and what does that mean for us and how do they benefit?
Connie
Yeah, so infrared, this is something that people don't really understand. It is, it is light energy. Infrared is energy medicine. So it is different than traditional heat and it's different than traditional, like overhead lights, you know, it is the sun's light energy that is in four different wavelengths and each wavelength has special healing properties. The ideal, if you're shooting for the stars, the ideal is to be able to have all four of those wavelengths and be able to use them inside the comfort of your own home. That's ideal. But we're all not sometimes able to do that. So I'll break it down and then I can help, you know, if you have few other questions like which one is best for this or which, you know, if I could only do one, what would that be, etc. But we'll start with far infrared, because I call far infrared the foundation of the infrared spectrum, because it's light energy that you feel in your body by heat. And we spent a lot of time talking about the value of sweat. And far infrared is what the wavelength that's going to promote excellent detoxification. And it does that by being absorbed into your cells. And if you could just kind of picture your body receiving this energy. So there's this energy transfer that happens. It doesn't need the air, it bypasses the air and it goes directly into your cells. So this is a, this is like a supercharging cellular energy medicine hack, is your cells receive that and they get energized and they start moving and flowing and changing all of that movement starts to get you all the benefits that we can talk about. So specifically the detox one, you know, your body starts to receive it and then it increases your core temperature, it increases the blood flow in the body, increases the oxyge and changes your heart rate, all those things start happening. And so that also helps with every single system in the body. So there's two or three really different benefits for detoxification. It's just helping all of your other systems. It's causing this biochemical cascade of impact to every single system. So it's promoting detoxification with the, with your organs. But then it's going to help increase your core temperature and have the body start to release sweat. And it's also helping detox through the sweat. So you're literally helping, you know, with your urine and like with everything when you're done. And I'm talking a lot about detox, there's so many other benefits. But with far infrared, your body is healthier, you know, after just one session because you're receiving all of this energy that you didn't receive before and it's changing and transforming your body. So that was a long answer. I love the far infrared wavelengths. I could talk about it forever. Mid infrared is a sidekick to farm for. It's also light energy that's felt by heat. It's a hotter experience than far infrared and it is great for muscle recovery. And it is excellent for helping with weight loss as well as reducing inflammation at the joint and tissue levels. And then near infrared and red light, and those two separately are also light energy. Those are referred to in the industry as photobiomodulation or pbm. So people want to Google impacts of PBM on the body. That's near infrared and red light. The correct way to receive those two wavelengths is by LEDs, known as near infrared is invisible light. And red light is obviously red light. And while I'm on the topic, let's talk about the fact that red light, this is really important. It's very confusing. Red light therapy that actually changes your cells is very different than colored lights of red light. So what I mean by that is chromotherapy. Like in our sauna, we have lights above that are color lights. And those lights are great for boosting the mood change in the mood. Blue is really calming. Orange helps with your libido, and you know, yellow helps with your increasing your energy. I mean, there's all sorts of different benefits of lights that's more on your chakras and Your mood, it is not on your cells. There is no benefit of color therapy to your cells. And this infrared light energy that we feel by heat or we feel by light is all about your cells and transforming your cells in different ways. So the near and red, I mean, there's so many benefits. There's a benefit of cellulite, there's a benefit of skin, there's a benefit of brain health. But they penetrate the skin, so they're absorbed or not absorbed. They penetrate. So they impact the cells at a superficial level where far and mid or more deep. So that's, that's a lot of information packed into one answer. And we can, you know, we can go deeper into different areas. But it's important because when people say infrared, that's the entire spectrum. And which part of that spectrum are they referring to? Because you can't get the entire spectrum unless you break it down like we have done. And we're the only company, the only product on the market that have literally broken down every single part of the spectrum at the correct frequency, at the correct quantity. We've separated it all out. And then we've also have the science and the programming the IT to also blend it together as well to provide the maximum amount of benefits. And then we develop six different programs. So you just press a button. So you have to think about it like, I want to do the pain relief program today. I want to do the cardio program today. I want to do the anti aging program today. You just press. I want to do the weight loss. And so you can do it all together or you can do it separately. And. But the most important thing is that they're all, they're all distinct and they all have their own value that they bring to the table. And it's important to identify that, you know, versus just saying red light can do it all or. Or far and freight could do it all. Because that's not the case. They all, they all have their role. It's like a baseball game. I love sports melodies. You know, everybody has their role in that. Like the pitcher can't do everything. The catcher can't do everything. You need like the other parts of the. The team, right?
Dr. Amy
Exactly. Are you dealing with mold, heavy metals, hormone disruptors, or other toxins? Pretty much. We all are. So I have a simple solution. You want to take a humic mineral complex. Humic is a powerful absorbent. It travels through your system and attracts toxins like a little magnet. And it binds them and then neutralizes them and carries them out of your System for good. A 2023 study found that humic binds seven to 10 times more toxins than activated charcoal. And I know y' all are taking that thinking that it's a miracle binder. It's not. Humic is one of the most effective detoxifiers in the world. So if you are struggling to detox from or you're just wanting to get this stuff out of your body, heavy metals, mold, mycotoxins, organic pollutants, hormone disruptors, or pesticides like glyphosate that sprayed everywhere, try taking Humic. You'll feel it working within days. And, hey, it's even good for hangovers. FYI, alcohol, another toxin. So my favorite humic complex is Micro Boost from Beam Minerals. It's a concentrated liquid, so all you do is take a shot of it every morning. That's what I do. I put it by my coffee. As I'm making my coffee, I look up, there it is. Boom. Take a shot. Micro Boost tastes like water. So you can even put it in your coffee and it starts working within minutes. It's simple and effective. It's the best way to detox fast. And I have a special discount for my listeners. So if you want to get rid of toxins for good, you're going to head to beamminerals.com and use the code Dr. Amy at checkout for 20 off your first order. So that is B E a M M I N E R A L S beam, like as in a light beam. BeamMinerals.com use the code Dr. Amy D R A M I E at checkout for 20 off your first order. So when I'm in my sunlight and sauna, I can actually see the three different wavelengths and. And how they're functioning now. I tend to just go all in, and I might not be doing it the right way. So I'm going to ask you today about it. I created my own program where I just.
Connie
Oh, I love it.
Dr. Amy
100 on all of them, every day.
Connie
I love it.
Dr. Amy
I just want to be blasted with all three because I have to tell you, I can feel a difference. And I was smiling when you were talking about feeling it inside of the cell because I've had this argument with my husband before. I go, no. When I do my hot yoga in my sunlight and sauna, which I love to do, I feel like it's heating me from the inside out. He goes, you can't heat from the inside out. I'm like, no, really, it's like stimulating my cells to produce heat. From the inside of my body. And then I sweat out and, and it does something magical to my metabolism. Anytime that that scale starts to go up or, you know, you eat crappy, I, I maintain a pretty decent weight, but it'll float up. I mean, I'm human. I eat like garbage, too. And I make it a point like, instead of doing two to three days of my sauna, I will do yoga in my sunlight and sauna four days out of the week. Boom. Weight loss, just like that. Because it stimulates my metabolism. And I. It must have to do with the heat stress. Pick up your brain about that and how it, how it relates to metabolism. But back to the programs. Is it okay if I go at 100% with all the wavelengths, or should I be picking the individual programs like anti aging to adjust those. Those different waves to fit what I'm going for?
Connie
Well, you look great. So, I mean, you look gorgeous. So, I mean, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't change anything that I was doing. I mean, you look absolutely fabulous and radiant and glowing. So I would keep doing what you're doing. We developed the programs for those who have very specific goals that they wanted. For example, let's. Like the cardio program that was designed, it's a passive. Obviously you're inside the sauna. Passive cardiovascular. But it's. It's designed to mimic going for a run, you know, and doing cardio. And a lot of people have excessive weight or their joints hurt, and they just, they're at a stage where they just can't run anymore, or they just don't want to run, or they don't want to exercise, but they still need to have cardiovascular conditioning on their body. It's really important to do cardio. So this is a way that it's really. Cardio is the most out of the six. It's the most intense program. It is like, literally you can feel, you know, your heart rate increasing and you, you can feel, you know, your breath changing, but you're still doing it in a passive way, which is lovely. So that's ideal for that type of a person. Anti Aging, totally different program that actually only has far and near and red, because we don't want to add mid because it's a hotter experience. And we want to do everything we can to help reduce inflammation, especially on the skin. We want to really focus on regeneration of the skin and accelerating cell turnover. So that's a completely different experience. And then relaxation is different, detox is different. They're all, you know, very different. I mean I found myself starting off, it just happened the other day. Started off with one program and then I was like, okay, that was good, I want to switch to another one. Like, and so I'll switch back and forth. So you're just, you're cutting that out and you're just like doing the maximum, which, which is great. And I would keep doing it. I wouldn't, I really wouldn't change anything.
Dr. Amy
No. But what is interesting, you just kind of put this in my mind too is sometimes I will. To your point about the skin, let's say I get a laser treatment or I just got a facial and the last thing you want to do is, is go in and get overly heated and then you sweat, you might break out. I can go in and use the anti aging program to stimulate healing from that laser as opposed to possibly irritating my skin from the different wavelengths. So that's a great.
Connie
Exactly. And the experience with the anti aging is so easy, it's so enjoyable and it's so gentle, you know, on your body and your skin while it's reducing inflammation internally externally. You don't feel, feel like you're going to explode or you don't feel like you're going to cause a rat. You don't, your, your risk is really, really low. So it's a beautiful, I mean all of them are beautiful programs and they're designed to address the conditions of, that they were designed for. And the science is all, it's all we did. Gosh, this was back 2008 I think is when we started doing all of the research on the different wavelengths, maybe even 2007. And we took all the studies that were done with each one and we did it at the right frequency. So they're, they're scientifically based programs. They're not just us putting together, you know, a bunch of stuff. And it's, it's really, it's called impulse because there's different pulsations of wavelengths at different frequencies depending on the program that you choose.
Dr. Amy
I love that you give me so many great ideas now that I'm going to do with my whole, oh, I.
Connie
Can'T wait to hear about what, like what, you know, what you do and what you change and how it impacts you. You have to follow up and let me know.
Dr. Amy
Oh, I definitely will. And even with the anti aging protocol now I'm thinking too. You know, there are just days where you're like, man, I don't want to rewash my hair right. So if I just do the anti aging, I'M not going to sweat as heavily and really have to then make it a hair wash day. So as women, that's important for us, you know.
Connie
Yes. Yeah, that's a great, yes, that's a great program to just still feel great. Like you're still getting that powerful energy, but you're, you're not, it's not like cardio by any means, but you're not just like totally immersed in sweat.
Dr. Amy
Right.
Connie
But your body is still getting the benefits because of that biochemical cascade I talked about. So it's still impacting your cells and it's still promoting detoxification throughout your system. You're just not sweating as much, but you're still helping with everything flowing and moving, you know, as well as the brain fog as well as the skin benefit as well as helping you, your body adjust your hormones, you know, as far as impacting your hormone balance and then ideally going to lead to an excellent night of sleep.
Dr. Amy
So I love it when I learn from guests too, like when I can, when I can actually have an interview and then I learn something to up level my own routine. This is just amazing. I love it. Okay, let's move on to that heat stress because like I said, I can feel my, it shifts my metabolism. That has to be beyond. Just like you said, the cardiovascular program of increasing your heart rate. There's something cellular going on.
Connie
Yes. Yeah. So the infrared energy is helping to activate your heat shock proteins and so it's causing this cellular stress that's good for your cells because it's making them stronger. And that's what we want. We want cellular repair, we want cellular movement. We want investment into our cells to make new cells to supercharge them, develop more energy, impact your mitochondria, like all of that we, we want and this is a way to impact all of that. It's really phenomenal. Sometimes when I'm talking I just think, wow, what a great tool because it's one tool that impacts your entire body. So it doesn't just affect your skin, it doesn't just affect your face, it affects your entire body as well as your different systems. So it's going to help your brain, you know, think clear. It's going to help you feel better, you're going to have more energy and your cells are going to thank you that you're investing in them and you're helping them repair and regenerate. And then ultimately I love, love, love your traffic way analogy as far as everything being stuck. So just imagine like you're in traffic and all of a sudden infrared comes in and starts to just clear all of that out. And so all of a sudden you have like this clear path, no cars around you, and you can just head on to your next destination without anybody bothering you and without stopping and starting and stopping and starting. That's what infrared, that's a good visual for what infrared does inside your body.
Dr. Amy
So amazing. And you know, so many, so much of my audience with thyroid problems, with hormone dysfunction, you know, weight is, is a real issue. And like you alluded to earlier, we have injuries, we're getting older, going for a run or jumping on the stepmill, that's not always an option. Or even lifting heavy, that I love to do. Not always an option for someone. So if you can start, number one, improving your cardiovascular system, improving your muscles, reducing pain, possibly improving healing, but also getting that benefit of, of the heat shot proteins and that increased metabolism. Oh my goodness. I mean that's like an all in one. It's beautiful.
Connie
Exactly. And a lot of people don't even realize the levels of inflammation that they may have in their body. Maybe they have tinges of pain, but a lot of times they don't even know that inflammation is existing inside their body. And infrared is such an excellent way to reduce inflammation at all the different levels. So at the deep level, at the joint and tissue level, and then near and red are phenomenal, phenomenal for reducing inflammation and helping your cells totally recharge so that your body can be pain free and, and just adjust to the inflammation. Like to reduce the inflammation. For, for example, far infrared specifically helps to activate a gene that controls inflammation in your body. So it helps to regulate information, I mean information, it has to regulate inflammation in your body and reduce it. So that's powerful, you know, because inflammation is the number one cause of aging. And, and also as we're taking medicine and supplements and everything like that, if, if we have inflammation, it may counteract that. And so infrared is an excellent way to make sure your body is reduced and pain free.
Dr. Amy
Oh wow, that is super cool. Okay, so in the impulse sauna you have the red. So we always hear about red and red light. Like we talked about earlier, red light is not going to make you sweat, but it is going to do things to this to the skin and for your cells. Is that built into the impulse or is that another panel that we get to put in the impulse sauna?
Connie
Yeah, great question. So impulse has, it's the only product on the market that has all four wavelengths of the infrared spectrum. So, so it has far infrared, which is the foundation. It has mid infrared separate heaters and it has near infrared LEDs. They are invisible, so you can't see them, but they're extremely powerful. And I didn't mention the fact that near infrared goes deeper into the skin than red light, which is back in 2010 when we developed Impulse in the first place, we chose out of those two wavelengths near infrared because it does go deeper. And so there. That's why we chose that one. We recently, in the past couple years, added the red light panels as well into Impulse specifically. Now, with that said, we have three other collections at sunlighten, and those three other collections do not have. They have a little tinge of near infrared amplify does. But the other two, Signature and Solo, do not have near infrared or red light. So we developed a panel that's separate that you can have outside the sauna. You can't put it inside because it's a standalone panel that you can hang on the wall or you can put into on the floor. There's a stand, there's many different ways that you can use it. But it also has an app that I love, love, love, love, love. I'm obsessed with the app because it's so easy. I just love when you just press a button and it does something, does something for you. Like, I wish I could do that at home for dinner tonight. I'm already knowing what I'm going to cook and I'm like, how do I come home and press the button for cook me dinner? For cook this. I'm making this spinach chicken bake and it would be just be great. So anyway, I love the fact that on the program, on the app, you just press the button for sleep, for skin, for whatever you're looking for on the red light panel. And it does, it does it for you.
Dr. Amy
Well, and I love that you have all the different types of saunas because just back to the patient I talked to yesterday, you know, she might not be looking for a big sauna that you can do yoga in. Like I was right. She just wants to get in a little cocoon and, and sweat her ass off, literally and figuratively. So, so it, it's beautiful that you actually make the, the smaller individual maybe a little bit more. More affordably priced.
Connie
Yes.
Dr. Amy
So there's an option for everybody.
Connie
There is. There is an option for everybody. One of our values at Sunlight and that we're really passionate about is to making sure we do everything we can to have help people have access to our, you know, Infrared technology that we've developed and the Solo is such. Has such a special place in my heart because we've had it over 20 years. It's really one of the products that changed our company because we learned so much about it through. We learned so much about the impact of infrared through the Solo. And so you are not sacrificing anything. If that's the model and that's. You described it perfectly. It's a cocoon. You know, it has two different domes. You can get in there and turn that thing on and you will love it. It just really. You sweat tons and buckets and buckets. You feel so much better, you have so much more energy, your brain is so much clearer and yet you won't regret it. Don't feel like you have to get what's behind me. I mean I love Impulse. It has all four. That's fantastic. But far and Fred is the foundation. And so if that's all, you know what you can get and start with the Solo. It's perfect.
Dr. Amy
I love it. And I want to talk really quickly about the EMF exposure because I know and, and I said this to you before we jumped on. I have been looking at different sauna companies for years. I mean probably five to 10 years. And it sounds like Sunlighten has been around for 28 years easily. Right. Or longer.
Connie
20 where we are we now or 25 let's call it.
Dr. Amy
Oh my gosh. That's amazing. So that, that tells me you've been doing your homework and your research for a long time and you are an expert in this area. And really when I look at at all the different sauna companies out there, there's something not jiving with me with, with the others where with sunlight and I knew I had the high quality wood in the Impulse or the other models that are the stand up, not the, not the cocoon one that we talked about high quality wood and, and low to no ems. And I know that that's a big thing for people. So can you talk about the, the EMF exposure of, of saunas and specifically with Sunlighten?
Connie
Of course. So all four collections have virtually non existent EMFs. And that's something that we worked really hard on. When we started in the basement, that was one of the first things that was super important to us was to make sure that the saunas were safe, that that the wood was hypoallergenic, fragrance free. That people were not going to have any type of negative experience from using the sauna. It's there to promote healing and natural benefits. It's not there to provide any type of harm. So part of the EMF exposure is making sure that we virtually have none. And we've evolved over the years. The solo is always great. Signature is always great. When we developed amplify, we had to make some adjustments and work with technicians to cancel everything out. Impulse was our greatest challenge because it's so techy and whenever you have extra things inside, you're, you have more, you know, risk for exposure. So was it 2020? I think it was when we finally were able to officially cancel everything out and we had a third party come in. We had to wait until every, the travel was lifted, but we had them come in town and take, you know, take this on a part, put it together and, and test it and then they reported the results and it is completely very, very safe. Everything about. While we're on the topic of safe, everything about our sauna is, is very, very safe. The materials we use, we have magnets inside there, the, the glues. I mean we always say one of the acid tests to, to our materials, is it something you could eat? Like it's something you actually put in your body. So making sure everything is clean and, and safe and non toxic.
Dr. Amy
Wow. And I knew that that was going to be important for my listeners, but obviously that was important for me as well because not every sauna company checks all of those boxes. So I'm happy that you have checked all of those boxes for us. So thank you for that.
Connie
Yeah, thank you. One thing that's different about sunlight is we control the whole supply chain channel. So what I mean by that is we design it, we source everything, we make it, we do all the ip, we do all the testing, we have quality control. I mean we, we all are involved with every step of the process, which is very different than most companies who bring in asana and they sell it and then so somebody else is responsible for what goes into that. And they don't have control over the heating elements or the quality of the wood or the, the components inside the programming, the tal. I mean none of that, that's not theirs. We own all the intellectual property of our saunas and so we have control over everything that goes in. So that just gives people peace of mind. We also have, we haven't talked about this. I don't think we talked about this last time either. But it may be important for people to know that sunlight and has gets over 28. It may be more than that. Patents on all of our, our technology, our, our control Panels, you know, our materials and why that matters. Because I'm like a. So what person? Like, what does that mean? It matters because you get peace of mind that you're getting the highest quality product, that if we say it's 99 emissive, which means 99% absorbed, and we have a patent on that, that means that we have to deliver on that every single time. So you can't get a more infrared into your body, into your cells, with any other product. And that's really important to us, and so we're passing that along to the community is you're getting that. It's like, I always think about it compared to a multivitam or a supplement that we've been talking about is supplements are only as good as they are made to make sure that they're absorbed. If you're taking 50 milligrams and then you want 50 milligrams absorbed, right. Just like when you're in our sauna, you want almost 100% of that infrared absorbed. You're not going to get that in other products. You get that in a sunlight and you're getting 99% absorbed into your cells.
Dr. Amy
That's so important. And I'm so happy that I have the best sauna company out there. So.
Connie
It'S been great to get to know you and. And I'm so just thrilled that the work that you're doing and the impact that you're making, you know, on the community. I love when I see stories like you and just everything you're doing to help women is really. It's really powerful. And as a woman, you know, thank you for that.
Dr. Amy
Well, thank you. And I want to leave the audience. Yes, we do have a discount code for the audience, but I want to leave them with a story. So do you have. And you know, we always hear these different stories from our. Our community of people that have had this tremendous success. So do you have any stories of people writing in being like, thank you, Sunlighten, because this is what happened to me.
Connie
I have a lot of stories. The first one that came to my mind, so I'll just share that when you were asking about stories. I love this so much. It's somebody everybody may know. Leanne Rimes.
Dr. Amy
Yeah.
Connie
So she, ever since she was 14, she has been on stage and she battled. This is public information, so I'm not sharing anything private. She. She battled depression and anxiety and super, super stress. And she finally went to see a physician as she. I think it was as she was approaching 40 and everything was changing in her body. And her physician said, you need to get out of this fight or flight stage. And because your body is just in havoc and you've got. One of the great ways to do that is, you know, infrared. And she, she owned the doctor and sunlight. And so she's like, this is the brand that I recommend. So fast forward Leanne's story. I love when she says this because it's just. It just warms my heart. Pardon the pun, but she talks about how she's still challenged with that fight or flight many times because she's still, you know, performing. And so she uses her son Lytton as the tool to get her from that. That stressed and anxious state into a relaxed state. And so she actually uses the analogy of I can go in there and the world is crumbling and I feel like the walls are just crashing inside on me. And. And within minutes, I feel like I can breathe and everything is lifted and I come out like a happier person. She's like, I literally feel my chemicals inside my body releasing and becoming happier. She's like, there's all these happy chemicals that start going off and she's like. She calls it her box of happiness. So I just think that's a great story because as females, there's so much going on in our lives and we're in charge of so many different people that the first person to not get a benefit, you know, it. To sacrifice is yourself. And the reality is if you do something that makes you happier, then the domino effect is endless. Endless. By our other females, we can impact by our. Our kids, you know, our spouse, our partners, our community, our work, etc. Like, there's so much power that women have when we take care of ourselves and we feel good and we want to share our story. The power is. Is really astounding. And I love that story of Leanne Rhimes. So thanks for asking me that question because I think about her a lot when I'm in my sauna and I'm like, I. Oh, here's my happy chemicals. Here they come. Yes.
Dr. Amy
Yes. Well, thank you for sharing that. That's amazing and so powerful and you are being amazingly generous to my community. You're giving up to $600 off. And I know that you even, you know, stack that with sales you got going on. So we're gonna put the link in the show notes, but people will go to getget and then dot sunlighten s u n l I g h t e n dot com Dr. Amy D R A M I E You're going to use the code Dr. Amy D R A M I E at checkout and that will give you that discount that Sunlight and has graciously granted to myself and all of you listening. So thank you Connie for doing that. I appreciate that.
Connie
You're so welcome. Yes. And the most important part about what you said is that code Dr. Amy so make sure you mention that because that's what unlocks the discount.
Dr. Amy
Yep. And you have a great team to walk people through. You know which one is just right for them. Huge customer support. So you really can't go wrong. If you need any help, you just reach out to their team and they will guide you.
Connie
Exactly.
Dr. Amy
Yeah. So Connie, thank you so much for your time today and thank you for teaching me because like I said, I've learned a boatload today so I'm it's going to up level my health as well. But thank you for joining us on the Thyroid Fixer Podcast.
Connie
Of course. Thanks for having me. Foreign.

Podcast Summary: The Thyroid Fixer - Episode 525
Title: Detoxification, Hormone Health and Infrared Saunas; Why Sweating Matters
Host: Dr. Amie Hornaman
Guest: Connie (Representative from Sunlighten)
Release Date: May 16, 2025
In Episode 525 of The Thyroid Fixer, host Dr. Amie Hornaman delves into the vital role of detoxification and hormone health, with a special focus on the benefits of infrared saunas. Joined by Connie from Sunlighten, a leading infrared sauna company, the discussion unpacks how sweating and specific wavelengths of light contribute to overall well-being, particularly for those battling hypothyroidism and hormonal imbalances.
Dr. Amy (00:00):
"Welcome to the Thyroid Fixer podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Amy... if these symptoms are sounding all too familiar, these sound like your tribe."
Dr. Amy sets the stage by addressing common symptoms associated with hypothyroidism, emphasizing the need for effective detoxification strategies to alleviate issues like fatigue, weight gain, and brain fog.
Connie (06:37):
"Detox is like helping your body remove the toxic burden... one of the quickest ways that you want to do that is through detoxifying."
Connie elaborates on detoxification, explaining it as the process of eliminating environmental toxins absorbed by the body daily. She underscores the importance of comprehensive detox methods to prevent toxic overload, which can lead to various health conditions.
Dr. Amy (07:55):
"We are all exposed to these toxic chemicals... it really starts to impact the endocrine system."
The conversation transitions to how environmental toxins disrupt the endocrine system, particularly affecting thyroid function and hormonal balance. This disruption can lead to issues like weight gain, decreased energy, and estrogen dominance in women undergoing perimenopause and menopause.
Connie (09:48):
"One of the biggest issues... is gut dysbiosis and gut function."
Connie connects inadequate detoxification to gut health problems, inflammation, skin health issues, and impaired cognitive function, highlighting the pervasive effects of toxins on overall health.
Dr. Amy (12:06):
"...you might need to detox to be able to process those beautiful hormones that you do have or that you are taking because your pathways might be clogged."
Dr. Amy introduces the idea that effective detoxification can enhance the body's ability to process and utilize hormones properly, rather than merely supplementing them.
Connie (12:52):
"...invest in that and get that straight. And then you can start to add on additional floors..."
Using the analogy of building a house, Connie emphasizes the importance of establishing a solid foundation through detoxification before adding supplements and other treatments.
Dr. Amy (19:15):
"...when they test sweat... aren't they actually finding thousands and thousands of toxic chemicals in that little drop of sweat?"
Dr. Amy highlights the efficacy of sweating as a detox method, referencing studies that demonstrate sweat's role in eliminating toxins like mercury, which may not always be detectable in blood or urine tests.
Connie (22:07):
"Infrared is energy medicine... each wavelength has special healing properties."
Connie provides an in-depth explanation of infrared wavelengths—far, mid, near, and red—and their distinct benefits. She details how each type contributes to detoxification, muscle recovery, weight loss, and skin health, emphasizing the importance of using the full spectrum for maximum health benefits.
Connie (28:47):
"We developed the programs for those who have very specific goals... it's designed to mimic going for a run."
Connie discusses Sunlighten's specialized sauna programs tailored to various health goals, such as cardiovascular conditioning, anti-aging, and relaxation. She explains how these programs utilize different infrared wavelengths to target specific health needs effectively.
Dr. Amy (34:44):
"But what is interesting... how it relates to metabolism."
Dr. Amy connects the sauna's ability to induce heat stress with metabolic benefits, including increased metabolism and the activation of heat shock proteins that enhance cellular repair and energy production.
Dr. Amy (45:48):
"...there's something not jiving with me with, with the others where with sunlight and I knew I had the high-quality wood in the Impulse or the other models that are the stand-up, not the, not the cocoon one..."
Addressing safety concerns, Dr. Amy commends Sunlighten for their low to no EMF (electromagnetic field) exposure saunas, which is crucial for ensuring user safety during infrared therapy.
Connie (46:55):
"All four collections have virtually non-existent EMFs... making sure that the saunas were safe."
Connie reinforces the company's commitment to safety by controlling the entire supply chain, ensuring that all materials and technologies used in their saunas are non-toxic and EMF-safe. She highlights their patented technology that ensures 99% infrared absorption, maximizing health benefits.
Connie (52:06):
"...Leanne Rimes... she feels like she can breathe and everything is lifted and she comes out like a happier person."
Connie shares inspiring stories, including that of Leanne Rimes, who credits Sunlighten saunas with significantly improving her mental health by reducing stress and anxiety through enhanced detoxification and cellular health.
In the closing segments, both Dr. Amy and Connie discuss special offers for listeners, encouraging them to experience the benefits of infrared saunas firsthand. They emphasize the transformative potential of integrating Sunlighten saunas into one's health regimen, especially for those struggling with thyroid issues and hormonal imbalances.
Dr. Amy (55:51):
"...you have a great team to walk people through. If you need any help, you just reach out to their team and they will guide you."
Final remarks focus on the support and guidance available to new users, ensuring they can choose the right sauna model and program to meet their specific health needs.
