Welcome to the Thyroid Fixer podcast, where we dive deep into the world of thyroid and hormones, especially for you ladies navigating perimenopause and menopause, and really for anyone struggling with hypothyroidism, I'm your host, Dr. Amy, thyroid and hormone specialist and CEO of a global telemedicine practice where we prescribe the right thyroid treatment and bioidentical hormones to all 50 states and most of Canada, helping you become that badass human that you're meant to be. So if you're battling weight gain and hair loss, you can't lose weight. No matter what you do, your energy levels are plummeting and your libido left town, then you're in the right place and you have found your tribe. Remember, I want you to embrace every inch of that badass woman that you truly are. So if you're ready to dive in and fix things, let's get started. Are you absolutely frustrated with working with doctors that keep telling you that you're normal and everything is fine, or are you frustrated with going the functional medicine or integrative medicine route and you're still not getting optimized? Maybe because they're focusing on other things other than the thyroid and hormones or they're not a thyroid and hormone expert. Listen, just because you go to a functional medicine practitioner, it does not mean they know what they're doing with your thyroid and with your hormones. They might tell you they do, but the reality is, if you claim to be good at everything, you're really good at nothing. That is why we focus on thyroid and hormones now. Yes. What else is involved in thyroid and hormones? You got insulin, you got your adrenals, you got cortisol. Of course the gut is important. Of course it is. Nutrient deficiencies, all the things. But we look at all of that and the bottom line is you could do all the gut healing protocols, detoxes, adrenal fairy dust sprinkling that you want to do. And if your thyroid is in the toilet, if you're not being treated properly, if your free T3 is low, if your reverse T3 is high, if your hormones are in the tank, then it doesn't matter. You're going to be wasting your time, you're going to be wasting money, you're going to be throwing a bunch of supplements at it, just getting more and more frustrated and getting supplement fatigue. You need to work with people that will hold your hand, actually care about you, ask you how you're feeling, not have a cap on any kind of dosing oh, that drives me crazy too. All those docs out there that say, well, you can't go above XYZ dose of T3. That is complete BS. Do not listen to them. Or doctors that tell you that hormones cause cancer. No, no, do not listen. We can get you to Optimization Land where you feel amazing, where you're not gaining weight, looking sideways at a brownie, where you have consistent energy through the day, your hair is not falling out, and yes, you actually poop and detox every single day. That is a win. So you're going to want to book a call with my team. And this is totally free. And this is where we go over. Hey, what have you tried? What has worked, what hasn't worked, where are you at on the frustration spectrum? And here's how we can help. And we are going to tailor a program for you and your needs to get you to Optimization Land, because I always talk about it. It's a beautiful place to live. And I invite you all to join me. Because in Optimization Land, you are confident and strong. You want to go out, your brain works, you have energy, you have motivation, and you feel so good every time you get dressed. Oh, and you have a libido. It's a beautiful place to live. So I'm going to invite you to click the link below. We always put it in the show notes how to Work with Us. So you're going to book a free call, no obligation. We're just going to go over everything with you and at least you'll have some guidelines and know what your next steps should be if you really want to get optimized. We got you. We've been doing this long enough. You're not a tough case. I always say that. But it is time to put you first. Because like I say, we only have so much time on this planet. Let's live it in Optimization Land because you deserve to be the badass human that you're meant to be. So I look forward to seeing you in one of our programs so we can help you level up and bring you into Optimization Land. The struggle is real when it comes to losing weight. Listen, I know because I've been there. You're trying all the things. You're doing the diet, you're tracking your macros, you're getting to the gym, you're going to the Pilates, you're doing all the things, but it's not working. It's not working. And this is independent of a thyroid problem. Maybe you have a thyroid problem.
Sarah Banta
Maybe.
Dr. Amy
Maybe you have low hormones. Or maybe you don't, and you're just like, I just have a really crappy metabolism that I am putting on weight or I can't lose weight no matter what I do. Then you need some help. But what you don't need is a stimulant fat burner of the old days where you literally thought you were having a heart attack. You need something that is actually going to work to increase your metabolism without jacking up your heart rate. Enter Thyroid Fixer. Yes, I know it's called Thyroid Fixer, but I named it after myself and the brand because it's my baby, it's my child. It's a product that I have been studying for 15 years and using it on patients for 15 years before I brought it to you. Thyroid fixer contains T2. And what this does, I call it the forgotten thyroid hormone. No, there's no tests for T2, but your body does produce T2 in small amounts. T2 will increase your basal metabolic rate, literally the amount of fat that you're burning at rest. It's also browning white adipose tissue. So this is why you jump into cold plunges. Or maybe you're like, I don't want to jump in a cold plunge to brown your white adipose tissue. That helps with insulin resistance, it helps with metabolism, it helps with inflammation, helps with overall health. So that's a good thing as well. And here's the other thing. With T2, it's not going to affect your thyroid. So many of you know, if you take T3, if we give you T3, or if you abuse T3 when you're not supposed to, it will have a feedback loop, a negative feedback loop on your thyroid. And you're going to either look like you're hyperthyroid or you're going to shut down your own Thyroid Production. T2 doesn't do that. It's working at the cell level to just simply increase your metabolism. That's a win all the way around, because now you're gonna burn fat, now you're gonna lose those extra LBs, and that's ultimately what we want. It also bonus, helps with ATP production at the mitochondrial level. This means steady energy through the day. No highs, no lows, no caffeinated Red Bull spikes, just really nice, steady energy through the day to keep you going. So you want to add in Thyroid Fixer and just literally watch your body change over the next couple months. Because, listen, I mean, it's. It's time. Well, it's time all year long. I mean, there's no good time of year to lose body fat. We want to be in shape. We want to look, feel, and perform our best. ADD in Thyroid Fixer and your body will absolutely thank you and then you'll come back and you'll thank me. I am back with one of our very special guests on all the Time because we love each other and we love to talk and teach you, Sarah Banta. And today, her and I are going to go into a topic that I really haven't gone into in years on the Thyroid Fixer podcast, and that is brain health. When her and I were talking off air, you know, we were talking about the increased rates of add, adhd, autism, Alzheimer's, all the A's that affect our brain. But in addition to anxiety, depression, just mood swings. And when we say things like mood swings, you know, it's very easy to think like, oh, my hormones are off, but there's so much more when it comes to the function of our brain. So I'm really excited that we decided to dive into this topic, Sarah, because like I said, it's not one that I've covered recently, and it's one that we definitely need to cover because one of those A's that I just said most likely affects every single listener, whether they suffer from it or they know someone that suffers from it very close in their family.
Sarah Banta
Yeah, I mean, I have the chills right now because there are so many factors coming from different angles. And most of the people listening are maybe moms or menopausal or perimenopausal women. Right. But we're affected by the moods of our children, of our coworkers, of our husbands, and we feel like we cannot fall apart, that we have to hold everything up and we can't have anxiety. We can't just stay in bed with our depression. And it is becoming harder and harder. And there's so many people that have come to me just in the last year, especially the pandemic, of course, has made everything worse, where they're like, I've never suffered from depression or anxiety before, and now all of a sudden I have these panic attacks, and I don't know where they're coming from. Amy, from my core group of high school friends, 10 people out of those 10, eight of them have at least one child with autism or on the spectrum. Now, if you were to ask my three children, who are now 18, 20, and 22, hey, how many of your friends are on medication for depression or ADHD or anxiety? They roll their eyes at me and they said, mom, Every, everyone, everyone one is not. And yes, we could be thinking we're eating the right foods. We could be moving our bodies, which most people are not moving as much because they're gaming, they're on social media and talking a lot about the kids at the moment. So they're not getting out and playing. During the pandemic, they were locked down, so they got used to being sedentary. That's a big issue. But just with statistics, over the last few years, ADHD has increased over 800%. Autism over 2000%. It used to be that it was, I mean RFK, I don't care about your political. Yep, plant here has, is, is putting in some money and some diving in deep over the autism thing. And just in the last two years it went from one in 35 kids down to one in 32. That's a, that's a big, that's huge. Just two years. And how many years ago was it? One in 10,000. So. And I personally have very close friends with autistic children and it is life changing. And then those children become adults. So it's a, it's a different issue. And we're going to have this population of autistic adults, but then we're also going to have the general population that is not functioning optimally because they're anxious and they're depressed and they're just trying to put one foot in front of the other. You've got bipolar disorder in Youth is over 10,000 increase. Depression over 11,000% increase. Celiac disease because we know the gut connects to the brain is over 10,000 increase. Diabetes, of course over 300%. Autoimmune disorders, food allergies, all the things. But this is what the problem is. When you go to your doctor and you say, I'm not feeling right. Do they test your thyroid? No. So we know thyroid hypothyroidism is the number one cause of depression. So look at that. But then they get put on these SSRIs and these medications cause severe long term side effects, including emotional numbness, sexual dysfunction, increased risk of suicide. And there was a study that just came out where they reported 62% of people had sexual difficulties, 60% had feelings of emotional numbness. So you're not even feeling your good feelings. 52% felt like they were not themselves. 47% experienced agitation, 39% had suicidal thoughts. But then this is what took me, was an aha moment. What these 20 to 40% of these people on SSRIs eventually developed bipolar disorder. So you are creating more brain issues by taking the medication.
Dr. Amy
Okay, wait, wait, wait. We got to stop. I got to pause you right there, because I got to chime in, and then I have a question for you. So, to your point about the ssri, I was actually in a relationship with someone who was on a higher dose of Lexapro because he had ocd. So I guess that that's what they use for obsessive compulsive disorder and, like, looping thoughts. Right? So they take Lexapro, which is usually dosed at I don't even know if they're 5, 10 milligrams ish. And he was on 20. Well, over time, I actually checked with my mentor on this. I said, you know, this person that I'm with has become completely emotionally numb. Like, there's nothing there. It's just flat affect. And he said, that's exactly what they do. And it's hard to get people off of it because they're so addicted to not feeling. You know, they don't feel any negative, but they also don't feel any positive. That. That was the conversation with. With this person, and he refused to. To change anything up. He just wanted to live that life of numbness. And of course, that doesn't work for a relationship most of the time. But going back to what you just said, Sarah, which I find fascinating, is that. So these people are given, most of the time, a band aid medication, an SSRI antidepressant, and then they're taking it. They're taking it. They' taking it. And you're saying this increases the risk of bipolar. Do we know the mechanism of action for that?
Sarah Banta
No, I do not know, and the study did not talk about that. But it makes sense that it would cause other diseases, because any medication is seen as a poison by your liver and causes leaky gut. And we know there's gut brain access. I had had Kieran Krishnan on my show multiple times talking about the gut brain access. And when you start feeling, feeding the gut the proper microbes and getting rid of the pathogens and healing that leaky gut lining, you will feel better because your serotonin, your dopamine, your gaba, all the good feeling hormones are made in the gut.
Dr. Amy
Yep.
Sarah Banta
This is another side point that no one is thinking about right now. The spike protein has triggered a lot of issues. Okay. Number one, the spike protein causes, on its own, away from isolating us and keeping us in our homes, causes increased depression and anxiety. It also causes an increase in pathogens to be triggered. We've got Epstein Barr, varicella virus, shingles, herpes virus, all of those are in the same family. A lot of these viruses have been triggered and reactivated. Maybe they're dormant in your body and now they're reactivated. But they also trigger more parasitic and candida infections in the body. We have parasites and candida and fungus in our body. They're supposed to be there, but they're not supposed to overtake the good guys. Well, guess what? Parasites love to eat serotonin.
Dr. Amy
Oh, seriously.
Sarah Banta
This is what is interesting and I have to go through these challenges myself to really understand them because I've had a huge parasitic infection and I've over overcome it and I've amazingly found a supplement to wipe things out. And it truly was a God thing. That's a side point. But through this experience, someone who has never had anxiety. I've always been a happy person. Even when my thyroid's low, I've been a pretty happy person. I've experienced more anxiety, more panic feelings, heart rate rising, and all of that due to this. These parasites and what happens especially take note people, if you're looking at the moon and it's full or it's new moon and it is itching and you have anxiety and you're more depressed or you're more impulsive, or maybe your spouse is yelling at you, you've got parasites. Because what happens is during those times your body naturally produces more serotonin and then the parasites become more active.
Dr. Amy
Gotcha.
Sarah Banta
That is factor that we have to consider when it's talking about brain and mood. And parasites are the king of the kingdom. You think you're in control of your thoughts. Those parasites are in control of your thoughts. They will move you to think into your fears and stay away from the positive. It is a, it's a whole thing. But that's just one thing.
Dr. Amy
Well, on that note though, would you recommend a parasite cleanse? Now that's a whole other topic of like what actually works and how to do it, blah, blah, blah. But would you recommend a parasite cleanse for those who are suffering with any, any of the brain diseases, not just anxiety, depression, but we can pull in the, add the, the autism, the, the Alzheimer's, all of it.
Sarah Banta
Amy, if you're human, you've got parasites. Everyone should be doing a parasite cleanse. Do you eat fish? Do you eat vegetables?
Dr. Amy
Do you have a dog? You walk in the yard?
Sarah Banta
Yeah. If you have a dog, you and your dog have parasites. I had to deworm my dogs as I was deworming myself. And yes, I do, I do promote our parasite cleanse. I have a candida cleanse. And there's a way to do it more specifically, depending on what your condition is, is it preventable, is it a severe outbreak? Or do you have worms crawling out of your skin? There's a whole bunch of things we can tackle if you feel like you're experiencing that. So we've got the parasites, then we've got all of the heavy metals. Now speaking of parasites and heavy metals, parasites swallow heavy metals. So when you're detoxing, guess what else you're releasing? You're releasing a whole bunch of heavy metals into your system.
Dr. Amy
It's like a two in one.
Sarah Banta
Yes. And that's why you have all of these detox flu symptoms, because you're releasing these mycotoxins, the mold, the candida, the fungus, the parasites, they all play together. And when you release them with the heavy metals, then you feel really icky, nauseous, you might have diarrhea, constipation, bloat, all of the things. But when it comes to the brain, the heavy metals like mercury, lead, aluminum, cadmium are everywhere. The air we breathe. I'm in Southern California, I did not get any impacted by the LA fires, but you better believe I was breathing the air because I'm an hour away. And the common theme around my town was, God, I've got a headache. I just, I, I, I, my, my sinuses are having issues. Well, that stuff accumulates in your brain and it dumbs you down, it causes brain fog, causes vision issues. So they accumulate in the brain over time and they wreak havoc, they disrupt the neural communication, they damage cells, interfere with the production of the neurotransmitters. And this is on top of all of the hormonal changes you're going through when you're going through perimenopause and menopause and the thyroid's not working. So just think of this as stacking these issues. And so when I first was on my healing journey, and I was, I think 26, did a heavy metals test, the amount of lead in my body was not even on the chart. It was off the charts. And then what happens is, as you're detoxing from them, the level will show up on the test higher because the amount is in your blood coming out of your body is higher. So it measures higher. And so that is where a binder is very important. When you're doing any sort of cleanse, Candida parasite or heavy metal cleanse, you want to make sure you're using a binder, we have the accelerated cellular detox powder that just soaks everything up, bypasses the liver and the kidneys, takes it out through the colon, helps with inflammation in the gut and all of that too. So you just feel like, okay, I'm just cleaning it out much faster. Okay. So then you've got the endocrine disruptors, Right. And we've talked about these. You've got the plastics, personal care products, pesticides, even the receipts. We're talking about microplastics, the water bottles. These mimic or block natural hormones, throwing everything off balance. Estrogen dominance, thyroid dysfunction, adrenal fatigue. Our bodies are just like trying to move forward and we have no energy and we're just being tapped. Right. So there's a ripple effect and it leads to mental fatigue, mood swings, difficulty concentrating. And as you're just trying to put one foot in front of the other and your kid says, mom, I want a juice box, you lose it. You're impulsive because you're like, I can't handle anyone asking me of anything. And then the processed foods, they're 70% of the American diet. And I don't care if you're on a low carb ketogenic diet and you're reaching for, for your keto bar that's processed.
Dr. Amy
Yeah.
Sarah Banta
Whey protein. Great. I'm not against it. However, organic chocolate whey protein in studies has been shown to have the highest levels of heavy metals.
Dr. Amy
Yep.
Sarah Banta
So anything that's processed, you gotta know where it's coming from. And just really try to stay stick to whole foods. So those foods are high in sugar, but not just sugar. I'm not against sugar. Sugar from fruit, sugar from veggies. Great. When you've got the corn syrup, the added sugars on top of the artificial ingredients that the body doesn't recognize as food gets lodged into your tissues and your brain. And what does your body do with those toxins? Stores them in fat cells to get them out of the bloodstream so that you can survive. Well, that toxicity puts your body into stress mode. Right. And it shuts down metabolism. And we know that we gain weight and all of the things that we've talked about before, but your brain, your brain is like, okay, I have to run from a tiger. I'm going to face a famine. I'm going to. I don't know what the stressor is, but I'm going to look at that stressor as the same as if it's a financial situation or a famine. I Don't know the difference. And so I'm in survival mode. And it puts a lot of pressure on the brain. Do you ever feel like you have so much to do on your plate that you're frozen and you can't do even one of those things?
Dr. Amy
Yes. And to your point, the pressure, like as you were saying that, I was thinking about literally just the other day, so much stress, so much to do that I could feel like a tightness going up my throat into my head. And it wasn't a headache, it was almost like my head was swollen.
Sarah Banta
Yes.
Dr. Amy
Yeah.
Sarah Banta
And it was. There was inflammation in your brain. And we know inflammation in your gut causes gut issues, but inflammation in your brain, how does can your brain work? And the whole push behind the ketogenic diet, not that I'm not a fan of it, or not a fan, I'm not saying one way or the other, but the push was the ketones were anti inflammatory to the brain. Brains work better because it was a cleaner burning fuel.
Dr. Amy
So we're using it now for epilepsy, which is a brain condition. Alzheimer's is type 3 diabetes. So naturally the ketogenic diet is going to bring down insulin and glucose that's causing the amyloid plaque. And there was even, there was a documentary years ago called the Magic Pill, and they showed how the ketogenic diet worked on children with that were nonverbal autistic. And some of them actually started speaking. So that totally makes sense. One more comment just to kind of piggyback on your brain inflammation. You know, my audience knows that I have a stepson that's nonverbal autistic as well. And you're going to cringe, Sarah. Just hold on to your pants. His mom got him vaccinated with not only the COVID vaccine, but the flu vaccine. If you ever want to see, like visually see brain inflammation, go ahead and vaccinate an autistic kid. He was bashing his head off objects and furniture. He had to wear a helmet for about six months until the brain inflammation died down. I saw it. I saw brain inflammation in the flesh.
Sarah Banta
I, I have the chills because I have one, a very dear friend in the same situation, and I can't see say anything. And I am hoping that the research that RFK is going to do is going to shed light on this. And that's a, a whole nother topic. But imagine the stress. Even though his mom, you know, you didn't agree with her decision.
Dr. Amy
Correct.
Sarah Banta
She obviously didn't do something that she thought was going to harm her child. Right, right, right. So my point is, is that the weight of us parents to make decisions like that is very scary too. And I had to go through a situation with my 18 year old daughter and we've talked about it, I think on the last podcast where her hormones were out of whack and doctor after doctor wanted to put her on birth control and I had to make that decision of try to go the natural way versus not. And I had people in my own family seen the pressure and the horrific pain she was going through, saying, Sarah, you've got to give her birth control. And come to find out we have overcome it naturally. So. But the stress on me having to make that decision and responsibility, that just inflames the brain even more. Right. And this goes into the stress and what happens with stress, short term is great, quite Cortisol feels great short term, but long term it damages the neurons, particularly in the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory and learning. So then you don't sleep and when you don't sleep, everything, the wheels come off.
Dr. Amy
Yes, yes.
Sarah Banta
And then you've got the leaky gut, which we mentioned, and that gut brain connection. When the gut lining becomes compromised, it allows the toxins, undigested food particles and the pathogens to enter the bloodstream and they trigger inflammation, they travel to the brain that disrupt the communication. And there are actually strains of probiotics that help with anxiety and depression because the gut is so connected. This is where I look to a spore based biotic for most people and it helps protect the gut and helps with more resilience because you and I, even though we're going to eat organic and try to do all the right things, were exposed. Our organic crops are get the overspray of the glyphosate. There was a study in Nebraska where the rate of cancer in children was significantly higher. I want to say it was about 37% higher than the rest of the country.
Dr. Amy
Right? Yeah. Yeah. Same with Iowa because the Nebraska winds blow over here and right. Iowa farmers spree like crazy out there.
Sarah Banta
Right. And we can think that China's air quality doesn't affect us, it affects us. Because the world is small, people. The world is small. The air travels. So you've got these toxins everywhere in our food, in our water, the pollutants in the air, they're wearing down the brain. You've got the social media, you've got the gambling, the alcohol. Because we're trying to cope, right. We're reaching for coping mechanisms. And like you're saying, when someone is put on a medication and I talked to a mom yesterday, a health coach, and we were talking and started the conversation on a business front. And as I was talking she goes, sarah, I need your supplements for my two daughters. They are on antidepressants and have been since 7 years old. And they are so absolutely afraid to get off. Absolutely. It is like it's their crutch. And what's so crazy is that these medications don't prove to do any more than the placebo. But people become so deathly afraid of letting it go and when. That's where I want to offer hope and alternative.
Dr. Amy

Sarah Banta
First diet. So yes, processed foods we need to get rid of. That's easy. It's not easy to do.
Dr. Amy
It's easy to say, but it's a no brainer, right? Yeah. Yeah.
Sarah Banta
Let's get rid of the alcohol. Easy to say, not easy to do. I understand. Okay, but what about oxalates and sulfur oxalates, our almonds, our spinach, our kale, our green smoothies, our green powders. Look at your green powders. These oxalates. Love the thyroid. Slow down the thyroid. They also cause brain fog and could cause mental issues. And then the sulfur vegetables, the broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, garlic, egg yolks. Now, I'm not saying that everyone has to get rid of these vegetables. I'm just saying if you're. You've got gut issues. If you've got brain fog, a slow thyroid, you. These might be things that you want to eliminate for a couple of weeks and see how you feel. Yeah, right. And your current state of health. So you could be someone who needs to eliminate them for a couple weeks and then reintroduce them in moderation. These are just a few little things to look at because especially if you are doing green drinks or celery juicing and you're taking things in in concentrations that aren't normal, they could be part of the issue. I just. In the news, chicken, I've been saying, don't eat chicken for years and years and years. Everyone's like, sarah is the healthy, skinny white meat. Well, right. It's got amyloid proteins that don't get broken down in the. In the liver. And these misfolded proteins go in your gut, trip up gut pathogens like E. Coli and salmonella even more so after the spike. Spike protein has infiltrated itself into us. They go into your brain, cause Alzheimer's, dementia, all of those things. And I'm sure it's doing some damage before you get to the stage of Alzheimer's. And this study that came out said that just by eating 300 grams of chicken a week, that is three servings, two to three servings. Two to three chicken Caesar salads a week.
Dr. Amy
Wow.
Sarah Banta
Right?
Dr. Amy
So, like, when I look at my mom, who had Alzheimer's, all she was chicken, she barely ate any red meat because of course, she was of that I don't want to see even generation, because it was during our time, too. Red meat is bad. Egg yolks are bad, you know, for your cholesterol, for your heart. So they avoided it. So my mom would always do, like, the. The lean, you know, chicken, chicken salad, chicken salad, and then bread and Pepsi. So she had insulin resistance, plus pretty much everything that you're talking about right now.
Sarah Banta
Right. Well, the chicken, even though it has maybe less fat grams, it has a lot more omega 6 inflam inflammatory fats. The linoleic acid is More inflammatory, not just to the body, but to the brain. And I remember when I was at my rock bottom, this was way before I even knew what organic meant. I knew that every time I ate chicken I got bloated and constipated. And what was happening was it was triggering the E. Coli or salmonella to take over my good bacteria. Now, did the chicken necessarily have the E. Coli? No, but it was caught. These amyloid proteins were giving strength to these gut pathogens, but that was just one side effect. And then you know what, just replace it with the wild protein. The bison, the elk, the venison, the nutrient density of those meats. There's so much more in it. Your brain's gonna love it. B vitamins for your brain. You've got the bioavailable amount of iron. And this is another interesting thing that's going on with the spike protein. And what it's doing to the liver is it's causing an inability for the liver to dispose of excess iron or ferritin. I'm seeing more people with high levels of ferritin in. Yes, it's like that Goldilocks. Not too little, not too much. Right, right. And people that used to run anemic are now high in iron and ferritin. So that's just something to look at as well. So we have a couple things that, what can you do? You clean up your diet, you exercise. Exercise is the one thing that has been proven to increase bdnf, right. That's going to help alleviate your, your depression. I know for a fact every time I choose to take my dogs for a short run and it can only be a 10 minute run, it doesn't even have to be long. I feel so much better. My brain feels open and awake. But we have, we have an accelerated cognoblast. This was a supplement that not only did we want to come out for high performers that need to get a lot done and pack in the day and be a mom and be a wife and be, be everything to everyone and run a business. So selfishly, I wanted this pill because short term, it literally I, I type faster on my computer when I'm on it. But I, I have had young kids, family members who get the supplement for free. So there's nothing that there, there's no way that they're going to take it. Right. Unless it works for them. And they have been on Adderall. Right. They've been on the ADHD medication. The problem with that for children is then they become 20 year olds and they're like, I'm too old to be taking this ADHD medication. I'm going to now self medicate with cocaine or something. Some of the illegal drugs. Yeah, they tried the Cognoblast. Okay, works. And they love it because they don't have the side effects of the Ritalin or the Adderall. Oh, my gosh, the adhd, it helps. But then I had multiple people come out of the woodwork that they're close to me. But people don't just wear on their shirt that says I'm on a really strong antidepressant. You don't know necessarily if people are on drugs. And these people said I was never going to ever be able to get off of my antidepressants because of the withdrawal effects. Yeah, Cognoblast got me off of it.
Dr. Amy
And so there's no harm in taking it with like. There's been some chitter chatter, which I don't really agree with regarding dopamine enhancing supplementation. And you can't take that if you're on an ssri. And then I'm like, well, then what's the point? Like, we're trying to get these people off of the ssri. So there's no contraindication of taking cognitive blast with a medication?
Sarah Banta
No. Will mention a couple of the ingredients in a minute. But it is showing to instantly short term, improve mood, focus, increase the production of ATP, help with anxiety, increase motivation. But then long term, this is what's so exciting, is that I have both genes for anxiety or for Alzheimer's and it decreases the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia. So you're helping your brain health short term and long term, it lowers inflammation, neutralizes damaging free radicals. It supports the liver, lungs, kidneys, you know, with my parasitic infection, that of course is making my liver work harder. People get liver headaches and third vision. So as I was going through the process, if I was having one of those liver headaches and I and I had to function or do a podcast or do something, I take the Cognoblast and it would give me relief and it would put my brain right back. Now, did that correct the parasite infection? No, but short term, it was helping me. It helps with the stress as well. So it makes you feel like your stressors, that issue that you're dealing with, Be 20ft in front of you instead of smacking you in the face. To deal with it, we use bhp. So there's a little bit of the ketones in there, but then there's centro phenoxine and this enhances choline function and helps with that. Acetylcholine, which is the neurotransmitter known to help with cognitive functions and just on its own is a very strong nootropic. It is known to improve memory and learning. Anti aging helps with the Alzheimer's mood and motivation. We've included things like DMAE and ginkgo biloba. Even people like my father knows what that is and his doctors put him on that. So I'm sure people know that reputation. It's known as the brain herbal bacopa. And so we've incorporated a lot of ayurvedic Chinese herbs, but then the, the modern day nutraceuticals. And it has gotten people off of their antidepressants with their guidance of their doctor, away from my advice. Right. I am not their doctor.
Dr. Amy
Gotta do that. Yeah, yeah.
Sarah Banta
But it's been very exciting. So that, that is number one. And, and what I love about something like this is I always see supplements as supplement to lifestyle and diet and your other things. But when someone can't get out of bed and have the willpower to do the other things. Just like if their thyroid isn't working.
Dr. Amy
Yep, right. Yeah.
Sarah Banta
To get their thyroid working, need to get their brain working. So then they have the motivation to do all the other things that we're talking about.
Dr. Amy
Exactly. So this really can span. You know, we, we, we talked about all the different brain inflammation issues from add, adhd, autism, anxiety, depression, even into Alzheimer's. So what you're telling people to do really hits all of them. It doesn't, it's not just targeting. Okay. Just the anxiety. It's, it's hitting all. Okay.
Sarah Banta
Right. And I, I know so many moms, when my kids were into elementary school and then into high school, especially during the pandemic where they were going to the doctor. Oh gosh. We tried him on three different medications. We're now trying the fourth because they're not working.
Dr. Amy
And we need like Ritalin, Adderall. Yes, yes, yes.
Sarah Banta
And all of the different anti anxiety drugs. And I know girls that have missed two months of school because they can't leave the house.
Dr. Amy
Yeah.
Sarah Banta
And it's crippling. It's life crippling. And that's where these little tools can help with the first step. And then, you know, I have the conversation with the parents, the diet, what's in the pantry right now. And I've had the conversation with my, my kids whether their goal is athletics, you know, winning the gold medal. Or just feeling good in their brain and not anxious. You've got to look at what you're putting in your mouth. And you got to get out of that house and you got to get off this phone. Because the 5G, the, the radiation, and that's a whole nother topic literally scrambles the brain. And your brain frequencies are trying to match the frequencies of the cell phone. And the studies on the cell phones have not been updated so since the 1990s. Do you remember what your cell phone looked like when in the 1990s it was about this big old roller and it was not a smartphone. These things are bigger and smarter than our computers that we're on. So the cognoblast would be number one and then methylene blue all over the news. Right. And there's a reason, and it's so funny because my dad is the executive example of the most western medicine person ever. He will never listen to me. If you're not wearing a white coat, he won't listen. Well, he emailed me this week from his neurologist, an article on methylene blue. And. Yes. And he takes it. And, and there's a reason. It has antioxidant properties. No protective effects. It helps with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It boosts your mood. It enhances the mitochondrial function. And we're only as healthy as our mitochondria, whether it's in our body or our brain. It's antimicrobial. You better believe I was taking it to kill, help kill those, those parasites and little buggers. And it helps with antidepressant effect. It increases nitric oxide. If you can't have relaxed blood vessels and promote blood flow to your brain, how is your brain going to work? But it's also been shown to help with long Covid. And there's been studies on that as well. And part of that is because of the mitochondrial effect. It is been shown to be antiviral and antifungal and all of that. So we have put together a methylene blue that uses John Ellis distilled water. And why is that even important? The bond angle of just the water we're using remains above 108 degrees, which is known to kill toxins in our food supply by eliminating the effect of the pathogens away from the methylene blue. So just the water is that powerful. And then we put it through the grander water system. And water can be dead, water can be alive. Your energy, your life force, your chi. Right, the. So the grander water system increases the life force of the supplement and helps with the energy. So it's, it's more penetrable and more effective. So those two things would be important. And we had mentioned iron and we always think that low iron is responsible for anemia. Well, if you're anemic and you can't give, you know, energy to your body to move, you can't get energy to your brain. But it's about copper. And copper is that hidden key to open the door to let the iron get to where it needs to go. We all have enough iron in our bodies just in the wrong places. But copper plays a key role in producing dopamine and norepinephrine. It helps with brain energy and it's also a strong antioxidant. And our copper and our colloidal gold. This was the last one I was going to mention. Both of these liquid supplements are put through water implosion technology. They're enhanced with scalar frequencies. What does that mean? Once again, it puts life force into the water. And gold was one of the gifts to baby Jesus. I don't care if you're Christian or not, it was that. It was important enough. And there weren't, they weren't talking about the gold we're wearing, they're talking about the healing properties of gold. We're talking about, about autistic children. I'll never forget the day when this mom brought her teenage autistic son to pick up some gold. And she said, sarah, he doesn't really talk, but he won't let go of his gold. It calms his brain down.
Dr. Amy
It's almost like muscle testing.
Sarah Banta
Yes.
Dr. Amy
Through someone that you can't. There's no placebo effect.
Sarah Banta
Exactly. There's no placebo effect. But gold is known to help with sleep, increase iq, calm the mind, calm the brain. And it's one of those very easy things to give children or elderly. It tastes like water. It's super to try that.
Dr. Amy
I'm going to have to try that with my, with my stepson. That's one thing I have not tried.
Sarah Banta
Yeah, yeah, I will. I'll send you a bottle. It's been one of those things that I forget about because it's not really out there. And then I'll reach for it and I'm like, oh yeah, yeah. And then with the, with all of the supplements, we enhance them with scalar frequencies for what their purpose is. So for instance, with the gold, we enhance it with frequencies to help calm the mind, calm anxiety, help with sleep and increase iq. For copper, we Enhance it with frequencies to balance the zinc copper ratio in the body and to help with energy production. ATP. And for the cognoblast, same thing, we use frequencies that help with memory and mood and anxiety and just overall good feeling. So that's just a little bit of the way we formulate the supplements. But like I said, these supplements are keys to get you started. And then you add in the diet, the exercise and the sleep. And my sleep through this whole parasite situation that I've gone through has been horrible. I almost threw away my aura ring. I'm like, I don't want to know how badly I slept because sites like to wake you up in the middle of the night. Last night, my sleep score was in the 90s for the first time in a while. And I felt, I felt it, you know, because you cannot shortcut bad sleep. And that is the cornerstone of any condition, including your brain.
Dr. Amy
Well, this has been amazing. Sarah, thank you for breaking this all down for us. I mean, the reason why I like to deep dive this way is I've already talked about, and we've talked about the importance of thyroid optimization and hormone optimization when it comes to all of these brain conditions, but sometimes we do need to go a little bit deeper. And I have many patients that listen, their thyroid hormones are optimized, but that brain thing that anxiety, depression, the adhd, whatever it is, is still hanging out. And then there's obviously the prevention of Alzheimer's. I too have one of the, the genes, of course, and it's rampant, my family. So knowing all of this, I think just, it just gives us more armor. It just gives us more tools, more armor to really combat this world that, that we're living in and to kind of bring it full circle to what we talked about in the beginning. You know, one of the things that RFK is standing up for is all of the toxin exposure, exposure. And to his point, and I've heard him speak before, just like you said, it doesn't matter your political affiliation. Put that aside for the health of yourself and your children. Even when going back to when you and I were in school, we didn't see autism like this. He, he makes the point and if you think about it, it's so true. And I think this is such an impactful statement. How many 50, 60 and 70 year olds do you know right now with autism? How many children do you know with autism? I know zero. 50, 60, 70 year olds with autism. I don't even know a 40 year old. The only people I know with autism right now at this moment are 20 years of age or, or less.
Sarah Banta
Yes. And my kids, friends that are autistic are now becoming adults. And this, there's this huge population of what we, we don't know what to do with them because, because we haven't had this problem before and they're trying to create group homes or places and there's not the accessibility for this population. So we're, we're facing a problem that, that we've never had before. And our food system wasn't hijacked.
Dr. Amy
It wasn't back then it was getting bad, but it wasn't totally hijacked like it is right now.
Sarah Banta
And you move to Europe, you'll lose weight even if you're eating the bread and the wine because they don't have the toxins lessons that we have.
Dr. Amy
Do you know there, before I let you go, do you know their rates of, of autism? That would be interesting to see.
Sarah Banta
That would be interesting. I don't know. I do know that we allow about 10,000 chemicals in our environment and they have about 400. So it is significant. And they're not eating. They're not focused on the Paleo or the keto or the low carb diets like we are.
Dr. Amy
They're eating, they're eating anything.
Sarah Banta
They're just eating.
Dr. Amy
They're just eating. They're eating anything. Yeah, I've seen it. So that would be, that's going to be interesting. I'm going to look that up after we jump off. So anyone listening? Just go ahead. And if you want to get your mind blown, I'm sure there are stats out there. Look at the stats of autism in the United States versus Europe. Yeah. I'm thinking there's going to be a discrepancy, so. Well, today you gave us so many nuggets, Sarah, that we can do right now to start changing, changing our brains and taking down that inflammation and really changing our quality of life for ourselves, for our kids, for, for everyone. So thank you so much for your time and for, for diving deep into brain health.
Sarah Banta
No, it's so important. So thank you for allowing me to speak on this topic. You know, it hits me home. It's hit, hit me personally in my, with my loved ones and with my family and friends. I mean, I don't think anyone listening doesn't know someone that is suffering and probably everybody is, and they don't know the reality.
Dr. Amy
Yep. And it just shouldn't be. Podcast Summary: The Thyroid Fixer – Episode 543
Title: Brain Health Alert: Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, Alzheimer's on the Rise. What Do We Do?
Host: Dr. Amie Hornaman
Guest: Sarah Banta
Release Date: July 18, 2025
In this episode, Dr. Amie Hornaman delves into the alarming rise of various brain health issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, and Alzheimer's. Partnering with guest Sarah Banta, they explore the multifaceted reasons behind this surge and discuss actionable steps to address these challenges.
Dr. Amy begins by expressing her frustration with both conventional and functional medicine practitioners who often overlook thyroid and hormone imbalances as root causes of brain health issues.
Dr. Amy [00:45]: "Just because you go to a functional medicine practitioner, it does not mean they know what they're doing with your thyroid and with your hormones."
She emphasizes the importance of specialized care in thyroid and hormone optimization to truly address underlying health problems.
To combat thyroid dysfunction effectively, Dr. Amy introduces her product, Thyroid Fixer, highlighting its unique benefits beyond traditional treatments.
Dr. Amy [04:52]: "Thyroid Fixer contains T2. This will increase your basal metabolic rate and burn fat without affecting your thyroid."
She explains that T2, a lesser-known thyroid hormone, enhances metabolism and energy levels without the negative feedback loops associated with T3, making it a superior option for thyroid support.
Sarah Banta joins the discussion to shed light on the escalating brain health issues, sharing both statistics and personal insights.
Sarah Banta [08:36]: "Over the last few years, ADHD has increased over 800% and autism over 2000%. These numbers are staggering and demand our attention."
Sarah elaborates on the dramatic increases in mental health disorders and developmental conditions, attributing part of the rise to environmental factors and lifestyle changes, especially those intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sarah Banta [12:15]: "During the pandemic, children became more sedentary, leading to increased anxiety and depression. This has long-term implications for their brain health."
The conversation shifts to the prevalent use of SSRIs and their severe long-term side effects, including emotional numbness and increased risk of bipolar disorder.
Sarah Banta [13:07]: "People on SSRIs report 62% experiencing sexual difficulties and 47% having suicidal thoughts. These medications are creating more brain issues."
Dr. Amy shares a personal anecdote about witnessing the emotional numbness caused by SSRIs, reinforcing the need for alternative treatments.
Sarah discusses how parasitic infections and heavy metal accumulation contribute to brain inflammation and cognitive decline. She advocates for parasite cleanses as a critical step in restoring brain health.
Sarah Banta [15:09]: "Parasites consume serotonin and disrupt brain functions, leading to fears and negative thoughts. A parasite cleanse is essential for brain health."
She also highlights the role of heavy metals like mercury and lead in causing brain fog and disrupting neural communication.
Both Dr. Amy and Sarah emphasize the importance of a clean, unprocessed diet in maintaining optimal brain function. They caution against processed foods, excessive sugar, and certain vegetables high in oxalates that can interfere with thyroid function.
Sarah Banta [34:04]: "Eating 300 grams of chicken a week can lead to amyloid protein buildup, contributing to Alzheimer's and other cognitive issues."
Dr. Amy shares observations about how dietary choices can influence conditions like insulin resistance and overall brain health.
The duo discusses various supplements designed to support brain health, including Cognoblast and Methylene Blue. They explain how these supplements aid in mood regulation, cognitive function, and detoxification.
Sarah Banta [38:25]: "Cognoblast has helped many individuals wean off antidepressants by improving mood and focus without the side effects of traditional medications."
They also talk about the benefits of Methylene Blue for enhancing mitochondrial function and reducing inflammation.
Dr. Amy and Sarah wrap up by reiterating the importance of a holistic approach to brain health, combining thyroid optimization, dietary changes, detoxification, and targeted supplementation. They encourage listeners to take proactive steps to safeguard their brain health for themselves and future generations.
Dr. Amy [52:42]: "We have to start taking steps now to really make that change long term to your brain health. Everyone, to your brain health."
The episode underscores the interconnectedness of thyroid health, environmental factors, diet, and mental well-being. Dr. Amy and Sarah advocate for a comprehensive, informed approach to tackling the rising tide of brain health issues, offering hope and actionable solutions for those affected.
