Tony Kornheiser
Hey, it's Tony. On today's show, we will welcome Luke Russert into the studio to talk about how he wound up in a Hallmark movie. We'll also get football picks from Chuck Todd and Renald the Monkey. Plus we'll Talk with Booger McFarlane about what's going on with Lane Kiffin. But first, let's do some commerce, boys and girls.
Luke Russert

Download Today previously on the Tony Kornhauser Show. You know, she said we'd love to bring lunch to the radio show and I did. I let it go because it's we're starting at 7:30 in the morning and nobody's up and she's not up, but she was, you know, I enjoyed playing with her very much. And she can curse and it's good, you know, like a woman who curses.
Reginald the Monkey
Well is a treasure doing it well.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes, it's just a treasure. This is General George Washington and you're.
Booger McFarland
Listening to the Tony Kornheiser Show.
Tony Kornheiser
I heard from Jimmy Crilley who knows Susan and loves Susan. Susan and Alyssa are pals and like they went to some pickleball meeting or something in Charlotte, North Carolina. Or Dinkin Dunk, Savannah, Georgia, whatever it was, pick a pickleball. Not for me.
Reginald the Monkey
Not for you, not for me. Also mostly for people who don't want to blow out their Achilles.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah, right.
Luke Russert
I'm in that camp.
Tony Kornheiser
There is. If you go to any pickleball thing, it's the loudest sport in the world. People are screaming. The ball makes a lot of noise. It's really the plague it is. It's the plague just for me. I'm. I'm out of pickleball. All right, we are guest loaded today. We have Chuck Todd, we have Booger McFarlane, and most of all, right now we have Luke Russert, who we haven't spoken to since his book was a bestselling book. That's a year and a half ago. And. And I would say we're going to catch up with Luke, but. No, we're not.
Luke Russert
We're not.
Tony Kornheiser
We're going to talk very specifically about a Hallmark Channel movie that Luke is in. And let me just set this scene and Luke can amplify this completely.
Guest or Producer
Hallmark.
Tony Kornheiser
The Hallmark Channel is a world unto itself. It knows no constraints of time. It is on 24 hours a day. Movies are constantly being made. They are essentially the same movie. Everyone is happy. Even when mean people are exposed in a Hallmark movie by the end of the movie, they are nice people. There is. And I don't. And I'm not even gonna say it's sac. I'm not gonna say. I'm not gonna be insulting. Except for, you know, every. There's a gazebo in every movie. But other than that, it is. Whoever thought of it and executed it is brilliant.
Luke Russert
Yeah.
Tony Kornheiser
Because there are people like my wife that watch it 24 hours a day. They cannot tell you what the name of the movie is, but they are very happy to watch the movie. It's the comm we need. Okay. Right. And Luke is in a movie. Go.
Luke Russert
Well, thank you so much for having me. And thank you so much on behalf of the Hallmark Channel for having me.
Tony Kornheiser
Should I tell people you're wearing the Hallmark jacket?
Luke Russert
I have the jacket with the Hallmark Channel. It's like a NASCAR jacket for the Hallmark Channel. What a piece of attire. I'm in a film. It's coming out. Saturday, November 22, 8pm Eastern, 7pm Central. Holiday touchdown. This Saturday.
Tony Kornheiser
This Saturday.
Luke Russert
This Saturday Holiday Touchdown. A Bill's Love Story. My acting debut. Tony. I'm in a Hallmark movie. Worlds Collide. Hallmark has been talked about on this program for so many years. And now for the first time, you have a Hallmark. I won't say I'm a star, but I'm blinking a little bit in your presence. What a time.
Tony Kornheiser
How did you get into this movie?
Luke Russert
Just so my. The person I'm related to by marriage. Like your person that you're related to by marriage is a huge Hallmark movie fan. And she said to me, the Hallmark Channel is doing a partnership with the Buffalo Bills. They had done a partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs last year. Obviously, the Bills movie will be better. So all that being said, I was like, well, that's really great. And I liked the post from the Hallmark Channel about it and wrote something like, let's go, Buffalo. Thinking nothing of it, of it, whatever. And I joked to the person I'm related to by marriage, I said, man, what would you do if I'd be in a Hallmark movie? You just turned it on one day and I was there. She goes, oh, knowing you, you'll probably weasel your way into it. Okay, I get a call, a cold call from this lady. I'm about to board a flight. She goes, hi, I'm so and so, I'm a casting director. Do you want to be in Holiday Touchdown, A Buffalo Bill's Love Story? I go, ah, yes.
Tony Kornheiser
Do I?
Luke Russert
She goes, well, do I have to talk to an agent? I said, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Tony Kornheiser
I will pay.
Booger McFarland
Do it.
Luke Russert
I said, whatever you want. She goes, are you seg. After I said, I will be today. Whatever you need. So they, they reach out. I. I literally said, just. Just send over whatever. I'll sign it. I'm good. And they go, great. Do you want to know what the role is? I said, I don't care, as long as I. I have a speaking role. That's tremendous. So I'm a halftime announcer. And I did not know this until we actually filmed, but it happens to be the climax of the movie, so I can't give away too many spoilers. But I will say is that after doing roughly, you know, 20 years on television, give or take, acting, as you know, for Mr. 3000, is a very different animal. And TV is kind of controlled chaos. Right. You kind of can ad lib a little bit. You read prompter, you go up on that. Oh, acting is very set to what the script is. And the scene that I filmed was at the Bill Stadium. I was at the 50th.
Tony Kornheiser
Oh, so you're not in Canada. Many of their movies are made in Canada.
Luke Russert
They filmed in Buffalo. Got them. They filmed in Buffalo over the course of three weeks. They went all around the western New York region, which has a lot of idea, like just Hallmark towns, especially East Aurora. Absolutely beautiful. But the scene I'm in, I'm at the 50 yard line. I'm a halftime announcer. And they had extras for this scene in the thousands, but people in the actual stands. In the stands, sure. And so. And then Joe Pantoliano. Pantoliano, who's in the Matrix Who I.
Tony Kornheiser
Always confuse with the other guy.
Reginald the Monkey
Oh, Billy Bob Thornton.
Luke Russert
They do look similar.
Tony Kornheiser
I always confuse the commercial. And they're both wearing wigs, so it's okay.
Luke Russert
Yeah, so he's, you know, from the Sopranos, from the Matrix, the Fugitive. Just an incredible actor. So my scenes, I have to basically cue him because he goes off of mate. So this scene, there's thousands of people in the audience. It's great Buffalo weather. It's like sideways freezing rain in May, which the director was ecstatic about. He's like, it looks like snow. This is great. Blah, blah, blah. So freezing. And he goes, okay, well, you start the scene. So there's thousands of people in the audience. There's the director. Here's Joe, like one of the premier actors of his generation.
Tony Kornheiser
Okay.
Luke Russert
It all starts on me. Terrifying. Absolutely terrifying.
Tony Kornheiser
With all the time you've been in.
Luke Russert
Front of a camera, it's a different. It's a different vibe. Because in, you know, camera, you turn on. It's like a little red light, or you go out on stage and there's, you know, people in the audience you can kind of play to. And you're not on this sort of strict, very tight, tight script. But this one was like, well, you know, it's Ted Knight and Caddyshack.
Musician or Singer
We're waiting.
Chuck Todd
Right?
Luke Russert
Like, get going. And. Yeah, but. But I was so terrified that I nailed the lines specifically because I was like, I can't let these people down. So that's about as close as I ever feel to playing quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. Was. Was doing that in the 50s.
Tony Kornheiser
How many lines do you have?
Luke Russert
I got. If you take it, I would say I probably have, like 30 seconds.
Tony Kornheiser
Wow.
Luke Russert
Speaking time. Yeah.
Tony Kornheiser
Wow.
Luke Russert
And then the great thing is I had three words.
Tony Kornheiser
I'm in the Americans.
Luke Russert
I'm in the background of the ultimate speaker. So you see me in the background of this. Of this climax of the love story. So just an incredible experience. And the Hallmark people were very nice. They included me in all their promotional efforts in Buffalo. I was just there for the premiere. They had a parade in East Aurora, New York, which looks like a Hallmark town. There was 5,000 people who came out to a parade with reindeer leading the way. And the. The leads. A guy named Matt Daddario and Holland Rodin.
Tony Kornheiser
Now, let. Let us. Let us.
Luke Russert
Sorry.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes. Make sure people understand this. The leads in one Hallmark movie are the leads in five to 10 Hallmark movies.
Luke Russert
So it's Matt's first one. Holland's been in some.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah. And he will not be his last.
Luke Russert
No, it won't. And here's another thing I will say is that, you know, I, I, I.
Tony Kornheiser
Look, he's got to get some gazebo time.
Luke Russert
He needs some gazebo.
Tony Kornheiser
Everybody needs that.
Luke Russert
And you, you spend some time on tv, you try to be fit and you think, yeah, I look like a pretty decent guy. And then you hang around these actors like they are very beautiful people.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes.
Luke Russert
And I don't look like that. They have incredible jawlines. They just sort of glow. So being around these guys was very humbling and they were very sweet and they're very nice. But Matt Daddario and Holland wrote in, they did a lot of sci fi horror movie work. But Holland is now a mainstay in the Hallmark and Matt's getting into it. And then there's this guy, Andrew Walker, who's the sweetest guy in the world. He's been in like 20 million Hallmark movies. And walking with him on a street amongst the female fan base of Hallmark is close to whatever it would be as like Walking with John Lennon in 1964.
Tony Kornheiser
So explain this to people. Explain what the Hallmark bubble is and the hold it has on the fans.
Luke Russert
It's niche, but it is so incredibly strong. And what I mean by that is people are so invested. It's a familial conn. And I think a lot of that is because it is, it's uplifting, it's very optimistic. The storylines are repetitive, they're similar, but they leave you smiling. And by the way, they're engrossing. And what I found, these are well written things. These are very well written things and they're very talented.
Tony Kornheiser
There's a similarity to produce.
Luke Russert
And what I found being amongst the fans is that it brings so much joy to their lives and it's something that's constant. So how I think, you guys and me, we look at sports and we see sports. It's like, you know, bad things can happen in the world, but we turn on the sports. There's beginning and the end. There's a hero and a villain. There's great drama. A lot of people get that through Hallmark. Except in Hallmark, the ending is always great. The Bills always win in a Hallmark movie.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah.
Luke Russert
The other thing that was so neat was when I was filming, I was, you know, I was a little anxious and I'm in wardrobe. Going to wardrobe is very cool, by the way. And I walk out and there's this good looking guy and he's kind of eyeing me and he walks over and.
Musician or Singer
He goes, la Chase array Oh, really?
Luke Russert
I go, what? He goes, yeah. I go, I'm Ethan Wolfe. I'm one of the top people at Hallmark. So Ethan is definitely listening today. Give him a shout out. Huge, huge TK fan.
Tony Kornheiser
Oh, that's great.
Luke Russert
So the entire, like, half hour, 45 minutes, where I'm freezing, out in the cold, waiting for my scene, I'm literally talking about this show.
Tony Kornheiser
And that.
Luke Russert
That calmed me, that. That. That centered me. And I said, well, I said, I.
Tony Kornheiser
Guarantee you, well, we'll send you a bill in the morning.
Luke Russert
Yeah, well, therapy, you're welcome. Yeah. But Ethan, very nice guy, big up in the Hallmark scene, and he's an avid listener of the show. And he's like, yeah, I always get a kick out of it because I work for them. And Tony talks about it almost as much as he does about sports, so it's good stuff.
Booger McFarland
So you.
Tony Kornheiser
It was just one day. Just one day.
Luke Russert
One day. For me, it was possibly two, but everything worked out well. You nailed it, and we nailed it. And, you know, I really enjoyed the experience. So if anyone wants to option my book and give me a cameo in that, that would be great. If you have an independent movie and you need, like, a cab driver and Irish bartender that can. I could give you about. I can give you about three minutes of dialogue, I think, at this point. So let me know. I know a lot of LA people listen to the show. Your agents out in LA holler at me.
Tony Kornheiser
So Pantoliano is an accomplished actor.
Luke Russert
Yes. Steve Sherpa was in that from the Supreme Court.
Tony Kornheiser
Did they know who you were?
Luke Russert
Steve did. Caroline Aaron from the marvelous Ms. Maisel, who did a lot of those Woody Allen movies, she was in it. She knew who I was. I don't know if Joe did, but Steve and Caroline did. And then, of course, the younger ones acted like they knew me. I don't know if they did.
Tony Kornheiser
So it gives me a chance to repeat my story about Keri Russell. So the thrill of my life is that I'm going to be in the Americans because I love the Americans. Great show. And I talked about it and talked about it, and the producers reached out and they said, you could be in the Americans. So I go, they're filming. You were filming in Buffalo? We were filming in Rockville center on Long Island, a town that I knew very, very well, having grown up in a nearby town of Lynbrook. And get out of a car and, you know, you stand around and I'm an extra. I'm gonna be in a bar scene and then I'm gonna have one line of dialogue. Okay. So I meet. I meet Keri Russell and I meet. And who was her. Her beau at that time?
Reginald the Monkey
Yes.
Tony Kornheiser
Jonathan Reese.
Chuck Todd
Yeah.
Reginald the Monkey
Who's now her husband.
Tony Kornheiser
Now her husband? I believe so. Yes. So they have no idea who I am. And it's very perfunctory. And we're in a car and they don't talk to me at all. And I go, okay, you know, I get it, I understand it. And then about 30.
Reginald the Monkey
Are you from the Lynbrook Cornhouses?
Tony Kornheiser
Thirty minutes later, Keri Russell comes out of her trailer. You know, stars have trailers. And she walks over to me and she says she's very, very friendly now because she says, I just talked to some guys. I know they think you're a really big deal. Could you take a picture with me?
Luke Russert
Just thought, wow, yeah, with that you're touching on something. That's what I found to be so fascinating. And you get a little bit of this in television, but just sort of like prior to a scene, everyone's kind of in their own bubble trying to remember their own lines. And then you go into it and you feed off the other person. But there's not a lot of dancing before. It's kind of like in the moment. And that was interesting to me. I thought there'd be more sort of chit chat ahead of time. You know, how are we gonna do this? Like, do you want me to do anything? It's like, no, we expect you to know what you're. We know what we're doing. We're trained. Don't mess it up.
Tony Kornheiser
Right.
Luke Russert
And that you get the level of disposition.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah. Did you get any sort of personal encouragement from the direct? Did the director take you aside or anything? Like the director, when I was doing. I didn't even know who. I didn't see him. I didn't know. I just did what I did.
Luke Russert
And they said, okay, I met the guy beforehand. And I said, is it okay if I ad lib for anything? And he goes, no, no. So he was very nice. He was very nice. Only one time that he want. He wanted me to say the line a little bit earlier in there. So that was the only thing I had.
Tony Kornheiser
So this is. Okay. This is a sports based movie? Yes. The Hallmark Channel doesn't do a lot of sports based stuff. The people who wrote it do. Are they football fans? Did they spend a lot of time actually in Buffalo? Did you, as somebody who knows Buffalo the way you do, did you get the sense that it had a certain Buffalo Truth, yes.
Luke Russert
Obviously I'm biased, but I will give them a lot of credit. They embedded themselves in Buffalo for a few weeks ahead of beginning to write the film. They absolutely nailed the vibes. They nailed the lingo. I can tell you, as a full blooded American male Buffalo Bills fan, Die Hard variety. If I was not in this film, I would still very much love it. There's a. There's a lot here for everybody. And even if you're just a casual Buffalo fan or just a casual NFL fan or casual Hallmark fan, there's enough in this script to keep you enchanted, shall we say? So I was very impressed with the writing, and I will also say that one of the things that they did incredibly well was get to the family dynamics of Buffalo. And what I mean by that is Buffalo is known as the city of good neighbors. And there's families that grow up going to games together for generations. And they absolutely nailed that. And they also nailed the relationship the city has with the players. People in Buffalo call the players by their first names, and that comes through very well.
Tony Kornheiser
Were there any Buffalo Bills in the movie? Yes.
Luke Russert
Dion Dawkins, our Pro bowl tackle. The hall of Famers were in it. Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas Andre Reed. Scott Norwood.
Tony Kornheiser
Scott Norwood.
Luke Russert
Scott Norwood, who's beloved in Buffalo, who, by the way, lives in Herndon, Virginia.
Tony Kornheiser
Oh, I had no idea.
Luke Russert
Oh, yeah, he's a local guy. Very nice. I've got to be become friends with him. Just this nicest guy in the world.
Tony Kornheiser
Does Buffalo finally win the Super Bowl?
Luke Russert
That does not happen in this movie. That was in the Four Falls of Buffalo, the documentary I did. We changed the ending for that. But let's just say the good guys win in this movie. The good guys win.
Tony Kornheiser
Are there mentions of and verisimilitude, to use a long word.
Luke Russert
What an sat.
Tony Kornheiser
Of Buffalo wings. Not Buffalo Wild Wings, actual Buffalo wings.
Luke Russert
So they do have.
Tony Kornheiser
Did they go to the Anchor Bar?
Luke Russert
No, they went to a place called Bar Bill, which is in East Aurora, which happens to be Josh Allen's favorite wing place. It's very good. They do a good wing. And what's funny is that in the opening scene, the lead actress, she really leans into the wings and beer Persona in a way that is spot on, which I was very impressed with the writing.
Tony Kornheiser
So when you see a scene in a television show or a movie of people eating and they're actually eating, they have to spit stuff out in the rehearsals and the early scenes. Cause or else they'd weigh 600 pounds.
Reginald the Monkey
Yeah.
Luke Russert
And none of the alcohol is ever reacted. You get the vibe for that.
Tony Kornheiser
But you didn't go to Canada. So many movies are made.
Luke Russert
So thankfully Buffalo has a lot of tax credits. There has been a wonderful movement to try to film things in Buffalo. A lot of movies have been filmed in the area in the last 10 years because of the tax credits and because of how beautiful these towns are. And a lot of the hollowed out industrial core is still there so they don't have to build sets for those types of movies. So it's a very popular place to shoot now. But yes, you're right, most of the time they do go to Canada or they go to places that are more advantageous for taxes.
Tony Kornheiser
So this, it starts on Saturday. What time Saturday?
Luke Russert
8 o' clock on the hallmark Channel.
Tony Kornheiser
Are you going to a. Is there a.
Luke Russert
No, the premiere was in Buffalo. The party will literally be. I might invite my mother over to. My wife is so excited all over the social media. I got to bring my wife to the premiere. She just melted for these Hallmark hunk heartthrobs and just kind of looked at me as like, God, you're so fat. These guys are so good looking. So you know that it'll be on there and then if you miss it Saturday night, it'll be on 3,000 times streaming the next day and then my guess is it'll play a fair amount. But listen, it's a great film to watch ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. It's a great film to watch between Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can honestly watch this film till Valentine's Day and really been really till Valentine's Day.
Tony Kornheiser
Carol's going to watch this film probably July 4th. Yes. But when they say, when they say Christmas, Hallmark movies, they're not filmed Christmas, all the snow is artificial. All of that stuff is.
Luke Russert
Yes, but the night we did our scene there was sideways freezing rain and they were so happy. And then they all kept taking my picture and I was like, oh, is this for a promotional thing? And no, we have to know where the rain hit you on the jacket. So we have to fix it later on to make sure that you're wet in the right place.
Tony Kornheiser
I said, oh, well, everybody looks at those movies to see one small change.
Luke Russert
Oh God.
Tony Kornheiser
So that they can see when something is interrupted. Everybody does that.
Luke Russert
They want to go on Internet, the Internet and cite it. But yeah, it was a wonderful experience. I'm so thankful for.
Tony Kornheiser
So we're happy for you.
Luke Russert
And honestly, my introduction to Hallmark was through this show and I will never forget walking down the Tunnel at the Bill Stadium.
Musician or Singer
Hey, Le Chisere.
Tony Kornheiser
That's great.
Luke Russert
That's how it started. Full circle moment.
Tony Kornheiser
So happy to have Luke here. We will now take a break and Chuck. That's right, Todd. When we return, Luke's friend, Chuck. Todd. I'm Tony Kornheiser.

You're listening to the Tony Kornheiser Show.
Tony Kornheiser
This is a group called Bad Daw. Local folk Americana duo based in Washington, D.C. the letter which we got from Dylan. What's Dylan's last name? Dylan Garron. Dylan Thomas. No, not Dylan Thomas. You've always been a champion of independent artists. These guys really capture the blend of storytelling and heart that I think you and your listeners will appreciate. The last album was the Jukebox of regret in 2023. They're out with a new record called Saving Grace. Bad Dog are the initials B.D. this is Bob Dylan. This is Bob Dylan's voice. Am I nuts?
Reginald the Monkey
Sounds an awful lot like him. Freewheeling.
Tony Kornheiser
It's. That's what Bob Dylan sounded like 50 years ago. I'm just saying that. Wow, that's really something. Bad Dog the Misfit plays in Chuck Todd. This week's picks with Chuck Todd and Reginald the Monkey are brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook. Make every moment more. Yeah, you've lost late. You finished three and four. You're 37 and 40. It's. It's tantalizing. Mount 500 is tantalizing. You haven't reached it. Any thoughts?
Chuck Todd
It's tough. I don't have any good thoughts. It's. It's. You know, I think. You tell me there's no great team.
Tony Kornheiser
Nope.
Chuck Todd
There's the Eagles.
Tony Kornheiser
They're very competent. They're not great.
Chuck Todd
And then there's Josh Allen.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes.
Chuck Todd
Right. Like, they, like the Bills aren't great, but Josh Allen is amazing. Other than that, like, this is a weird year, right? If. I don't know if we got a Seattle Indianapolis Super Bowl. Would that shock you?
Tony Kornheiser
It would surprise me. I don't know that it would shock me. The top of the AFC is New England, Indianapolis and Denver. And that is a big surprise. Seattle is the most surprising time machine.
Chuck Todd
Doesn't that feel like 2010?
Tony Kornheiser
Just very new England, Indiana. Right. Yeah.
Chuck Todd
Manning, Brady and. Yeah.
Tony Kornheiser
Very.
Chuck Todd
Can Thibaut.
Tony Kornheiser
It's very, very odd. All right, let's start. Let's start. You mentioned Josh Allen. Let's start with Buffalo. Buffalo was at Houston on Thursday night. Buffalo was minus six. That went up from like four and a half because Stroud is out. C.J. stroud is out. And that's a pretty, pretty high line for a game where you're only going to get two days rest and then you got to travel. What are your thoughts?
Chuck Todd
It is. And you have a really good defense and defense travels on short weeks better than offense. By the way, these Thursday games have all been low scoring too. That's a lot of points. I know. It's Davis Mills.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes.
Chuck Todd
Like, are you really betting on Davis Mills?
Tony Kornheiser
Are you?
Chuck Todd
I'm betting on them to cover. That's what I'm betting on them. Yeah. I'm going. Part of me is like you said.
Tony Kornheiser
All of those nice things about Josh Allen and now you're going against Josh Allen.
Chuck Todd
Okay. In that game last week, they shouldn't have covered. But he sort of willed it.
Tony Kornheiser
Right.
Chuck Todd
So I also believe that this is, you know, to use the Jeff Ma logic that this might be a little artificially high, this line here.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah.
Chuck Todd
Based on watching results of that game. But that Tampa Buffalo game wasn't a double digit. That was a close game. Yes, it was a game.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes, it was.
Chuck Todd
The final score kind of is misleading. That's my point.
Tony Kornheiser
Okay, we'll go to Pittsburgh at Chicago. Wilbon is geeked up for this. Wants to see Aaron Rodgers. Guts spilled all over the car.
Chuck Todd
Aaron Rodgers though, right?
Tony Kornheiser
Well, no, he wants to play. The latest is he wants to play. Don't know if he will be able to. Pittsburgh is plus three. Chicago is seven and three and is first place in their division, which is in. It's actually incredible because their quarterback has not played all that well. They're winning all their close games. They are 7 and 3 in first place. They have a negative point differential. They're minus 6 on the year. Pittsburgh never really passes the eye test though. So who you got?
Chuck Todd
I think I blindly embedding against Chicago. Like you have to just for everything you just said. Right. They keep winning games. They probably. They've won all their 50, 50 games.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes. Yes. Right. Yes.
Chuck Todd
And you know, what was it? Didn't Minnesota did this a couple years ago. They won every 50, 50 game. Kansas City last year won all their 50, 50.
Tony Kornheiser
They were 11 and oh, in one score games. Kansas City 11.
Chuck Todd
Right.
Tony Kornheiser
So now they're 05. It comes back.
Chuck Todd
There is a part of me that wonders are, is this, you know, is Chicago going to. Is, you know, are they this hot at the blackjack table? And you just got to, you know, they're going to end up 13 and 3 and then just get eliminated in the first playoff game they are in. Like we saw with Minnesota that year when they immediately lost to the Giants and all that. But no, and then you have the. If Aaron Rodgers plays, he never loses to the Bears.
Tony Kornheiser
No, he owns them.
Chuck Todd
He owns them, the Bears. He has said this and this is one thing he likes to back up. So give me, give me the Steelers in the point.
Tony Kornheiser
You're going to have to take Pittsburgh. Even if it's Mason Rudolph, you're going to have to take him. Right.
Chuck Todd
I know. And in some ways I would, you know, you know what that means. It'll be a ugly game. It'll be. Tomlin will slow it down.
Tony Kornheiser
That's right.
Chuck Todd
And he's going to have to beat him in the last minute.
Tony Kornheiser
Okay. All right. Minnesota is at Green Bay. A division game. Minnesota, J.J. mcCarthy. Maybe next year, maybe not this year. Green Bay. Green Bay has looked terrible lately. Just terrible. No offense whatsoever recently, but they, you know, they're at home. Although they've lost at home. Carolina at home. Six and a half in a division game. Who you got?
Chuck Todd
How are the packers favored by this many points over anybody after what they've done? I don't know this one. The only reason I'm tempt, I'm probably, I'm going to go ahead and take Green Bay. Is that the line seems so high that you shouldn't take them. But Minnesota, this could be it. They're out. I mean, that loss to the Bears kind of eliminated them.
Tony Kornheiser
Yep.
Chuck Todd
Like right. Their season. I agree. So they could be, you know, this, this may explain why the line shot up that way. Either way, what do you think they really think of Sam Darnold?
Tony Kornheiser
This is an interesting thing because on the PTI show, we asked Jeff Saturday that and he said, no, no, no. You have to understand, they love Sam Darnold. Even with Sam Darnold having a terrible game, they had a field goal at the end to win and it was just five feet wide. Right. He believes that the people on that team do not doubt Sam Darnold. I looking on from the outside and remembering the jets and the last few games last year in Minnesota, I would doubt Sam Donald.
Chuck Todd
Oh, I'm talking about Minnesota, though. I'm talking. Don't you think Minnesota wishes they had Sam Donald?
Tony Kornheiser
Oh, this year? Sure. Yeah, sure. But I mean, if you're in Seattle, I thought you were asking, like, Minnesota. Okay.
Chuck Todd
Because this JJ McCarthy thing just not working yet. And I don't mean to be a hater here, but I never saw the evidence in college that this guy was a. I never. That's never understood the first round, the whole hype around him. Yeah, that was never understood. It and I think it's revealing itself now. Ditto with Bo Nix, by the way.
Tony Kornheiser
So you will take Green Bay?
Chuck Todd
I'm going to take Green Bay, but I don't know if they should be favored by that much. But it tells me that. That they may think Minnesota's quitting Indianapolis.
Tony Kornheiser
This is a line that surprises me. Indianapolis is plus three and a half at Kansas City. At some point you see enough in Kansas City where you go, you know what? It's not last year, it's not the year before, it's not the year before that. It's not their year. This year they're 5 and 5. Indianapolis is what, like 8 and 2 or something like that?
Chuck Todd
And up a by, by the way.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah. Indianapolis plus three and a half. I'm a little surprised. Are you?
Chuck Todd
That's a little high. I. I thought they were going to do two and somewhere in the one to two range, but three and a half, that's an easy hook man you get to have. Because if Kansas City wins this, it's because he drives down at the last minute and they kick a field goal to win it, right?
Tony Kornheiser
Yes.
Chuck Todd
Right. So I think that half, that's one of those hooks that feels like it's very valuable.
Tony Kornheiser
So you're going to take. You'll take Indy.
Chuck Todd
Indy plus that. Three and a half.
Tony Kornheiser
Here's another line that is, I guess it is explained by the fact that it's a division game. That's the only thing I can think of. Philadelphia at Dallas. Philadelphia minus three and a half. I thought that would be at least five. At least five. And I know Philadelphia doesn't score a lot of points, but they smother you on defense most of the time. So who will you take in this game?
Chuck Todd
What's your sense of the emotional high and low that the Cowboys were on on Monday night I, I was.
Tony Kornheiser
They looked really good on offense. I mean, Pickens and Lamb, Dak Prescott was finding them. They looked very good, but against a terrible team.
Chuck Todd
Right. And how much of that was them wanting to play well on an emotional night? Right.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes. Because they lost a teammate. Yes.
Chuck Todd
Yeah.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes.
Chuck Todd
Yeah. I just have a feeling that you get really up for something like that. And I don't care if you're facing your most hated divisional rival, which in this case these days, it is the Eagles. I think for Cowboys fans, sorry, Washington fans, but I think they hate the Eagles more than any other of that division these days. I don't know. Give me the. Give me the Eagles. I'm not going to get in front of. Put it this way. I am tired of trying to bet against the Eagles. Yeah, they. That, that defense, they're. They're like a python. They just suffocate. Right. They just squeeze the life out of teams.
Tony Kornheiser
I agree with that. I agree with that. Okay. And Dallas has no particular defense. Quinn and Williams is not going to win 10 games by himself.
Chuck Todd
All right.
Tony Kornheiser
No.
Chuck Todd
This should be the A.J. brown has a big game game maybe. Right. Because you're maybe, you know, theory, but maybe they won't care.
Tony Kornheiser
Now Tampa Bay is at the Rams. The Rams. Let's not get crazy here. The Rams should have won that game by 20 to 30 points and they didn't. They almost lost that game at the end. The Rams, they had a field goal. Seattle had a field goal from 61 yards to win that game. Tampa Bay is a solid team. A lot of, you know, Baker Mayfield's had a great year. They have a lot of people hurt all the time. If I was thinking there might be a letdown, I think I might think of it this week.
Chuck Todd
What about you give me that line one more time.
Tony Kornheiser
Seven have it.
Chuck Todd
That's a big number. And on a team that I. This could be an NFC championship game preview.
Tony Kornheiser
No, could be though. Tampa. Tampa's lost three in a row. They have fallen. They have fallen.
Chuck Todd
Well, they were. Dude, every who's not injured on that team.
Tony Kornheiser
That's right. That's right.
Chuck Todd
Right. But they were in that Buffalo game the whole time until sort of they ran out of gas. That's a lot of points. Give me the. Give me the fight in Mayfields.
Tony Kornheiser
Okay, Tampa Bay. And one more game. Another seven point line. Carolina, which ultimately beat Atlanta. Atlanta is the biggest fraud in the States United universe. Just stop telling me.
Chuck Todd
Can you do something for me, by the way? I need a. I, I keep betting On Atlanta. I keep looking for ways to bet on Atlanta. I have to stop.
Tony Kornheiser
You have to stop a problem. Intervention.
Chuck Todd
I have. I have.
Tony Kornheiser
I need an Atlanta intervention.
Chuck Todd
Whatever it takes to keep me from betting on Atlanta.
Tony Kornheiser
Frauds. They're just frauds. Atlanta. Carolina beat them. Carolina's record is so much better than you think it is. But when you see them, you don't. You're not really sure at San Francisco. San Francisco won easily over Arizona the other week, but, you know, and they got Brock Purdy back, but they still have a bunch of people hurt. Seven's a pretty big number, but San Francisco is a pretty good team. Pretty good team. Anyway, will you take the number?
Chuck Todd
And I will say, you know, there was a lot of this chatter that, oh, maybe there's no difference between Mac Jones and Brock Purdy. There's a big difference.
Tony Kornheiser
There's a difference. Mac Jones did a good job. The other guy's better.
Chuck Todd
Correct. He's. You know what? And it's a really good living to be a backup quarterback in the NFL.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah.
Chuck Todd
Right. So there's no shame in getting a bigger career backup, because you also will have a future in TV commercials. I love those.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes, those answered fun substitutes. Yeah.
Chuck Todd
These guys. And you're like Teddy Bridgewater. Oh, and as the. As the guy who will listen. I love that. So give me the Niners.
Tony Kornheiser
You take the Niners. And ultimately taking three home teams. I don't know that that matters to you.
Chuck Todd
Is there a home field in the NFL these days?
Tony Kornheiser
I don't know. I don't. I'm not. When Green Bay loses to Carolina at Lambeau, you know, I wonder if there's.
Chuck Todd
No home field there. Where is there a home field?
Tony Kornheiser
All righty. All right. Best of luck. We want you to have a big week. Thank you, Chuck.
Chuck Todd
I need it. I need it.
Tony Kornheiser
Chuck Todd, boys and girls. And if that's all we gave you was Chuck Todd, you'd be ecstatic. Cause he's wonderful at this, takes it seriously. But we give you a monkey. See the monkey he scrit scritch sing along everybody watching his iPad Smoking and.
Luke Russert
Laughing Hanging with Bud Grant tap, tap.
Tony Kornheiser
Tapping on his purple attache Nigel's going to the zoo, zoo, zoo Reginald's got.
Luke Russert
The vice buy, too Sometimes he throws poo, poo poo and he's had too.
Tony Kornheiser
Much Johnnie Walker blue so was he down at the zoo or did he move into a condo?
Reginald the Monkey
How did he do last week? It was not a good week for him.
Tony Kornheiser
Was 1 and 2. He's 17 and 20 he's stuck in the 1 and 2 rock.
Reginald the Monkey
Yeah, that's his. That's his fate. Well, I did go down to the National Zoo yesterday to. To chat with him and he was busy finishing up a practice. I don't know if you're aware of this. He's attempting to swim the English Channel.
Tony Kornheiser
I didn't know that. He and Gertrude Ederle.
Reginald the Monkey
Well, I think that's his inspiration.
Tony Kornheiser
The problem is nobody knows who Gertrude Edley is but me. I'm the only person who knows.
Reginald the Monkey
I would not have been able to.
Tony Kornheiser
Pull that Gertrude Eddily.
Reginald the Monkey
So he's busy practicing on the Potomac, which doesn't make a lot of sense because it's not nearly as wide as the English Channel. But his team has confidence in him and they're feeling good about it. So he introduced me to his team, the brain trust behind this training. You'd love these names. Mickey Dolenz is there.
Tony Kornheiser
Sure.
Reginald the Monkey
Guillermo Vilas, Thomas the Hitman Hearns and John Daly.
Tony Kornheiser
There you go.
Reginald the Monkey
Yeah.
Tony Kornheiser
John Daly.
Reginald the Monkey
Can't lose with those four.
Tony Kornheiser
John Daly. No, you can't lose with him. Absolutely not.
Reginald the Monkey
So we would took a moment to break from practice to go over these matches.
Tony Kornheiser
What do we got?
Reginald the Monkey
First one we gave him was the Bills at home giving six.
Tony Kornheiser
I'm sorry.
Reginald the Monkey
On the road giving six to the Texans. And he showed me a lovely, very old photograph of him riding in a dirigible alongside Marv Levy, Phil's mom and Andre Reed.
Tony Kornheiser
There you go.
Reginald the Monkey
Tells me he got ties to the Buffalo area.
Tony Kornheiser
He's going to Buffalo. Yeah.
Reginald the Monkey
Lay the six. The next match we gave him was Kansas City at home giving three and a half to the Colts. And this was. This is a very old photograph of him. Reginald. That is planting potatoes in a massive garden. And alongside, helping him, George Brett Priest Holmes and Larry Gore.
Tony Kornheiser
Kansas City.
Reginald the Monkey
Tells me he got ties to Kansas City.
Tony Kornheiser
I think I would take Buffalo, too, over Houston. I do. I know Chuck didn't, but I was.
Reginald the Monkey
Surprised after all that praise he gave Josh Allen. How could you pick against Josh Allen after what he just did?
Tony Kornheiser
Stroud's out. Yeah.
Reginald the Monkey
The last match we gave him was the Rams at home giving seven to Tampa Bay. I wasn't sure which way he was going to go with this, but he showed me a nice picture of him surfing off Malibu with Vince Veragamo, Willie Flipper Anderson and Davey Lopes.
Tony Kornheiser
So he's going with la.
Reginald the Monkey
Going with la.
Tony Kornheiser
He's going with la. So he's going differently completely than Chuck. Yeah. Well, let's See if it works.
Reginald the Monkey
It usually hasn't.
Tony Kornheiser
One and two. All right. This week's picks with Chuck Todd and Reginald the monkey have been brought to you by FanDuel's sportsbook. Make every moment more and we will come back with Booger McFarland. Once again, we are playing Bad Dog, sent to us by Dylan Garon in Reston, Virginia. It's a song called Remains, a final track on the album, and Dylan writes it's the perfect soundtrack for sitting on your back porch sipping your favorite Beaujolais and watching the day wind down. So he must listen to this show knowing that I'm becoming a Beaujolais addict. Michael Bad Dog. If people who sound like Bob Dylan want to send in their original music, how do they do it? Jesse keeps looking up.
Luke Russert
You are a good dog.
Tony Kornheiser
I sent us some music by emailing.
Luke Russert
It to jingles@tonycornizershow.com Jesse got me off rhythm.
Tony Kornheiser
There we go. All right, Booger McFarlane joins us. And there is a story, a rather large story. I mean, the predominant story in college football this year has been the firing of coaches. Brian Kelly was fired. James Franklin was fired. Ended up signing yesterday at Virginia Tech, which is probably a very good move for him. A bunch of guys were fired. The coach at Virginia Tech was fired, obviously making room for James Franklin. Franklin, I think the coach at Oregon State was fired. Oklahoma State was fired. Guy had been there 20 years and was an alum. This is the big deal. And Ole Miss doesn't want to fire Lane Kiffin and doesn't want to lose Lane Kiffin. And there are two huge jobs out there, LSU and Florida, who have each won more national championships than Mississippi. Can you explain, Booger, what is what Ole Miss is doing with Lane Kiffin? Are they playing a dangerous game with him?
Booger McFarland
Well, I don't know if they're playing a dangerous game. I think what's happening now, based on what I know what I read, is, you know, Ole Miss is very happy with the coach that they have, and they're trying to figure out a way to keep him. And, you know, they don't know that he's leaving. They heard rumors that he may be entertaining other schools. And so I think it's no different than any other company when you have a really high performing employee. Said employee is being wooed by competitors. And so you're trying to do what it takes to keep your employee. I think that's the, you know, to kind of put it in layman's terms for everyone out there, that's what Ole Miss is dealing with.
Tony Kornheiser
I thought they were like, you know, trying to put a deadline on him during the regular season to let them know does he intend to stay or go, while also leaking the notion that they would pay him, they would match anything that either Florida or LSU gave him. If that is true, if they want to know, it seems reasonable to me to want to know. But it's not like you're gonna fire him. You can't fire him. You're gonna be in the playoffs. You haven't been in the playoffs ever. You can't really fire him, right?
Booger McFarland
Yeah, I don't think you can. But, I mean, I think Lane was on the Pat McAfee show today and he said emphatically, there is no deadline. So those are his words, not mine.
Tony Kornheiser
Right.
Booger McFarland
And he said that there was no deadline. However, I think that even though there may not be a deadline, I think, you know, more people, people that are involved want to know sooner than later.
Tony Kornheiser
Yes.
Booger McFarland
So I think he was very forthcoming today, his words, and basically saying there is no deadline. He's getting ready for the Egg Bowl. But I think we all understand that there's a lot going on right now as far as him, and he's trying to figure out what he's going to do for him and his family. I think he's. He's earned the right. Just like any high performing employee, he's earned the right to benefit off of his success. And whether or not he chooses to do that. I think everyone in the coaching world in college football wants to know, including, you know, guys that work in the media like myself.
Tony Kornheiser
He's basically got one foot in the transfer portal, doesn't he?
Booger McFarland
That you know what that sounds, I guess from a simplistic way to put it, sounds like he has one foot in the transfer portal. You know, the portal. You're either in the portal or out of it. It's like being pregnant. Like you're not a little bit pregnant in or out. I think in this coaching thing it's a ballet act because there are agents involved, because of the timing, because of schools involved. Like there's so many things involved that I think makes it a little bit of a high wire act. I think Virginia Tech was smart to get out front of it and hire Link. Hire Franklin. Franklin, yeah, I think they were super smart by that. But that's just the first domino. There's so many other dominoes. I think they're like 11 power, four jobs that are open. It's going to be a wild period over the next two to three weeks and it's probably going to happen sooner than that because of the schedule and recruiting and all that good stuff.
Tony Kornheiser
So let me, for people that don't know this because there may not be fans of Ole Miss and they don't know, let me just, just set the record out there. Lane Kiffin has had five double digit win seasons in the past six years. That's greater than Mississippi has had in the last 50 years. It's obvious Lane Kiffin knows what he's doing. You went to lsu, you know the SEC in your mind, can Ole Miss compete with LSU in Florida from a football standpoint. And a second question, from a money standpoint.
Booger McFarland
Well, I'm biased. I think the best job that's open right now is lsu. Of course, I think when you look at all the things involved, I think you would, a lot of people would agree. However, let's just look at where we are in College Football in 2025. We're in the transfer portal nil era and ole misses nil is as good as anybody in America.
Tony Kornheiser
Okay?
Booger McFarland
In layman's terms, they have as much money as anybody outside of probably Oregon and A and M, which can go in the ground and get more money.
Tony Kornheiser
Right?
Booger McFarland
That's number one. Number two, I think there's something to be said for having something established already. Look at the blue bloods of college football. LSU and Florida are one of them. Florida, Florida Stadium seats 92,000. LSU Stadium seats 104,000.
Tony Kornheiser
Right.
Booger McFarland
Like, those are mega boxes when it comes to college football. The state of Florida is as fertile in recruiting as probably a sea turtle. Same way as Louisiana. Like, it is super fertile.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah.
Booger McFarland
So when it comes to the. Your ability and proximity to players, you're not going to get that in Mississippi. So I think there are a lot of pros for LSU in Florida, but there's also a lot of pros for Ole Miss based on. Based on their. Their money. They said they can match anybody. They're collective. They were one of the first ones to set up Nil. So they have all the kinks figured out. It's going to be a tough decision because do you stay with the status quo and what you've already built, or do you go and look for something new? I don't envy Lane if this is a decision he's got to make.
Tony Kornheiser
You are an LSU guy. Maybe you know this. Do you think LSU wants Lane Kiffin?
Booger McFarland
I think there's a list of coaches that LSU is going to entertain. Do I think Lane Kiffin is on that list? Most likely. I think. I think you have to. I think he's got to be on the list. Is he the only guy on the list? I can 100% say that he's not the only person on the list, but he's definitely someone on the short list because of the success that he's had. And when you're looking for a coach at one of the blue bloods, the question you ask yourself is, has he done more with less? And I think everybody would agree he's done that at Mississippi. So now you're willing to give him more than what he's had. And I think Florida and LSU feel like they can offer him more. If they are, they are truly after him.
Tony Kornheiser
He's. He's born and raised in the North. His father was a great coach, Monty Kiffin, but he didn't spend a whole lot of time in the South. You have been critical of the fit between Brian Kelly and lsu. Would you be afraid of the fit with Lane Kiffin or the fact that he coached at Ole Miss? That makes you feel. No, no, it's okay now. He's been there. Yeah.
Booger McFarland
I think because he's been in the Southeast at Ole Miss. He's been down in Florida, some smaller schools. I played for his dad, Monica, and his dad was absolutely outstanding. I've known Lane and his brother Chris for 20, 25 years.
Tony Kornheiser
Wow.
Booger McFarland
You know, just because their dad coached us in Tampa and they would come around all the time. So, you know, you always bring your family around. So I think Florida thinks he's a fit. I think a few years ago, I want to say four years ago, Auburn wanted to hire Lane Kiffin. So every school realizes that he's been around the Southeast, so I think he could fit anywhere. He was the offensive coordinator at Alabama, so I think Lane has been at the Southeast. He coached at Tennessee. So, like, when you look at his career, he may not be from the south, but he's been to four or five different SEC schools as a coach, an oc, a quality control guy. So he's very familiar with the south, which is why I think Florida, LSU, and other schools have had some interest in him.
Tony Kornheiser
I remember this. The minute that Florida fired Billy Napier, Lane Kiffin's name came up in the next sentence. In the next sentence, it seemed like they really wanted him. Do you have that sense?
Booger McFarland
Yeah. I think he's Slaughter's number one guy. Based on everything I've heard, I think Florida is putting all their eggs in the Lane Kiffin basket. Whether or not they get rewarded, we'll see. But I think I agree with you. I did hear the same thing. Maybe not even the next sentence. Maybe it was in the same sentence. I don't even know if they used the comma in the sentence.
Tony Kornheiser
Yeah. So where. Like, just take a shot. Where do you think Lane Kiffin will be coaching next year?
Booger McFarland
Ole Miss.
Tony Kornheiser
Really? Yeah.
Booger McFarland
I just think that. I think from a standpoint of happiness in your life, stability in your coaching profession. If you gave me 100 bucks of your money, I would put it on Ole Miss.
Tony Kornheiser
Okay. Okay. Not your own money. My money. That's fine. Let me get you out of here on this. James Franklin at Virginia Tech. You go from the Big Ten to the acc. It's a winnable conference, much more winnable than the Big Ten. You go to a school that, when Frank Beamer was there, went to bowl games every single year and was ranked in the top 10 at some point. You know, in a season, nine of 12 seasons in a row, this is a place. This is a place with a football name in a place where you can win. Can James Franklin win there?
Booger McFarland
Yes, he can. Think about James Franklin. He was at Vanderbilt. He won eight or nine games there, took them to a bowl game, so they'd never done. Think about where Nashville, Tennessee is now. Let's go to Happy Valley. Penn State. I realize it's in the middle of nowhere, but it's in Pennsylvania. So now you go to. To Blacksburg. Virginia, these like, it's a very central area of where he's been, where he's worked at, and kind of where he's going to be. I think he understands the lay of the land from a recruiting standpoint. I think he will, he will be successful. And think about this, Tony. If he just does what he did at Penn State, they'll build a statue.
Tony Kornheiser
Sure, sure.
Booger McFarland
If he, if he just goes, if he wins nine, 10 games a year, they'll build a statue. And I think, you know, Virginia Tech, it said they're going to put some money into the program, so they're going to beef up the nil, which is the name of the game right now. And so I think when it's all said and done, I think James will be successful. And you know what they always say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And when he was at Penn State, they didn't think that it looked really good. Well, Virginia Tech's going to think he's like a, like a Runway model wearing a bikini every day.
Tony Kornheiser
I agree with this that, you know, you're not going to have to play as many top 10 teams. That was, that was his undoing. He was like 4 and 21 against top 10 teams in the Big Ten. You don't see that in the AC. It's the different. It's not, it's not that way. So I also, I agree with you that he will be successful there. I do. It's a pleasure to have you not just on television, but on the podcast too. Thank you, Booger.
Booger McFarland
Always take it east, Tony.
Tony Kornheiser
Thank you, Brother Booger McFarland boys and girls, lovely to have them. We will have email and jingle when we return. I am Tony Kornheiser.

From Glenn in Norwegian, Soft kitten. For years now, my golf buddy, PGA professional Alan Moyer, and I have used the phrase muffin of scrumptious delight to refer to something that's outstanding. For example, Alan crushes a drive center cut. Alan's at least as big a hitter as the llama. To which I'll say, that was a muffin of scrumptious delight. Alan will reply with a knowing smirk and a nod of the head as we have another phrase here from Steve Gilmore in San angelo, Texas. Dear Dr. Potato Man. So it's not enough for Wilbon to have the Pope and Richard Dent on a text chain. He has to have a Philadelphia one. As well, with Randall Cunningham, Clubber Lang and Ron Hextall. From Joe Rizzo, Admiral, Orange, I refresh. I offered all Bigs and littles a new term. The Wilbonian statement. It's a declaration made with high personal conviction, typically favoring Chicago, the Big Ten or the Midwest, delivered with such authority that it dismisses or outweighs contradictory data. So the namesake of the Wilbonian statement said on Monday, quote, for every school in the Big Ten, their largest alumni base is in Chicago other than their own state. So I checked, and in true Wilbonian form, it's not true. Of the 18 schools, eight fit that criteria, and neither Ohio State nor Wisconsin is included. The next largest city that fits that criteria. Why, none other than New York City with six schools. Having said that, never let the facts get in the way of a great Wilbonian statement. We live for it.
Luke Russert
You always would say I was the most overconfident kid you ever met. But Wilbond, different level. Different level. I'll take you the 10 minutes out.
Tony Kornheiser
Of your day to fact check Wilbond for George.
Luke Russert
Such conviction.

George McGuff or George Magog, I don't know. Waxhaw, North Carolina. After listening to the hidden ball trick, I was reminded of my own youth coaching stories. I played basketball in high school, was pretty good for suburban New Jersey, so I was very happy. When my male child wanted to play basketball at age 7, I immediately volunteered to be the head coach. At the end of our first game, we were trailing by a point with 15 seconds left in the game. I called timeout, took my son, who was very tall like I am, and our amazing little point guard aside, and I asked them if they knew what a pick and roll was. They stared at me blankly. Well, there's seven. And said no. I said, that's okay. So I told my son to stand still at the foul line and told the point guard to dribble as close to my son as possible so his defender would run into my son. I told the point guard, if my son's defender covers him, he can pass the ball to my son, who would take the shot. Everything went perfect, except our point guard decided not to pass the ball when my son's defendant guarded him. After the pick, the point guard was fouled. He went to the line, made both free throws, and we won. As we were coming off the court, I said to the point guard, do you know if you missed those foul shots, we would have lost? His response was, quote, no. Coach, what do we have for snacks after this game? Gotta love kids. They know what's really important. The next evening we had a coaches meeting. The Commissioner league who was at our game started the meeting by asking me, did you really teach 7 year olds how to run a pick and roll? I replied yes, I did and I did it during that final time out. A great moment in my youth sports coaching career. From Brian Mohler On PTI Wednesday, Wilbond said people should call him about what they should wear since I'm not on his text chain with Dent Jordan and the Pope. Great. Could you ask him what color shoes he suggests with sage gray Lululemon pants? Thanks. Oh I know that ABC pant. Thanks thanks in advance.
Luke Russert
Very good pants.

Nathan Ackerhelm Charlotte, North Carolina With James Franklin becoming the new head coach of Virginia Tech, I'm confident he can elevate the Chipotle in Blacksburg from good to great. But can he get it from great to elite? Hopefully Greg Garcia's son is is enrolled there and we can get frequent updates from Paul Quinn, the official Scots man of the Tony Kornheiser Show. What a night for Scotland, qualifying for the World cup for the first time in 28 years. The opener after three minutes was a spectacular overhead kick. I'm sure Wilbon won't be impressed by it, but the whole of Scotland definitely are. After being pegged twice by the Danes and seeming destined for another glorious failure, up steps Tierney in the third additional minute with a beautiful strike from 30 yards. And to top it off, Kenny McClain scores from the halfway line in the 97th minute. Three of the best goals Scotland have ever scored. I love the way they use have and has in Scotland and in all of Europe, and scenes of utter jubilation followed. All that being said, I will be venturing to North America for the World cup and depending on where Scotland are based, I was hoping for somewhere to stay. I will gladly fight creatures living in the little house for a few months to turn on the water. Failing that, I would like to charter the boat for a couple of weeks. I'm sure your exemplary navigational skills can take us where we need.
Luke Russert
Ireland might make the World cup too.
Tony Kornheiser
Is that right?
Luke Russert
And I believe Wales and Northern Ireland. It's going to be a rowdy affair.

Here from Tony Beeson. Today I learned that the bearcat, which is technically a bin for wrong pronounced been too wrong, been too wrong. Smells like buttered popcorn, imitates information for life. Oh, this is from Tony Ben with a picture of a bearcat. Yeah, and says officially called a binturong. The bearcat isn't actually a bear or a cat. It's a unique tree dwelling mammal native to Southeast Asia, known for its long whiskers, shaggy fur and surprisingly sweet scent. It smells like buttered popcorn. Why do we have bearcats? They're not even in America. Why are bearcats what Dan Oshinsky In Park City, Utah I know we're all breathlessly awaiting the TK deep dive into the Washington Nationals 40 man roster. I never even learned how to spell Oga Serara and he's already been DFA'd. Should be stinks. But until then, can we talk about the fact that the recent additions to the Nats front office and coaching staff are trending closer in age to the Hammer than to everyone's favorite doctor of Humane Letters? There's a new president of baseball operations Paul DeBoni, 38 manager Blake Patera, 33 pitching coach Simon Matthews, 30 but good news, they're not going to make you learn an entire roster's worth of new names in 2026, the team announced this week. Sean Doolittle Yeah, the Beltway Mitturon the Hammer plays a mean pitcher self.

Or just asks Coach Dan I love the youth movement, but boy, those guys are really young. I know. They're really, really young. BC guy too.
