C
So I was sitting there with my three sons, my wife, and I'm looking at you and I'm sitting there. I went home and I said, liz, this. That was my dad in the 90s. I'm looking up at my dad where I'm always 10ft behind him and he's talking to everyone. He's working the floor. You had your work bag, you had the coat.
A
I did, I did.
C
All that was missing was we had to leave by the player's entrance and you'd leave me behind and I had to fend for myself.
A
Some cab money, kid.
D
Yeah.
C
At one point I thought you were gonna go away, come back with a half eaten bag of popcorn.
A
The Tony Kornheiser show is on. Now the tortured memories of Michael's. You sorry about that.
C
Press box. Orange soda.
A
I always feel like I'm apologizing. So let me, let me describe my weekend. I was very, very fortunate this weekend. I got to play golf both Saturday and Sunday with people I didn't even know. I mean, I hooked into.
C
Love it.
A
Yeah. I hooked into people who were playing and there was an opening for a fourth. And in both cases, I played with people I did not know, though they said they knew me. One of them, for example, Jack, who was a. I played with Jack and Joey on Saturday. Jack's good. He said he caddied for you. He said he caddied for you once where you had. We were five under after eight. Nice. Do you remember feeling it? Do you remember that?
C
I remember now, yeah.
A
So he said you were 500.
C
Lipped out a putt there too.
A
Five under after eight. So you know he, he played very well. He birdied the first three holes and, and after each one, I always say, well, you can't birdie them all unless you birdie one. Well, you can't birdie them all unless you birdie two. Three. Threw in about a 35 foot par.
C
This is the TK effect. What'd you do to him on number four?
A
Yeah, well, on four, he pars the hole and I go, you can't go all threes if you don't do it on the first four. But he was not going to go all threes because the next hole's a par 5 and he was not going to eagle the hole. But I think he careered it like 71, 71, 72, something like that. And I was there for that. And it's always nice. This happened the other day with Dr. Tom Lockney. He careered it.
C
And when you are there, golf needs more of this.
A
Yeah. When you are there with someone who has the best round they've ever had, it's joyful for them and for you if you're not playing terribly. I was, I was okay. I mean, I shoot no matter what happens from the gold tees of Columbia. I shoot 92. It doesn't matter. I can shoot.
C
That's why there's an eraser.
A
I could shoot 43 on the front, as I did, and then 49 on the back, you know, because that's what I shoot. But it was, it was lovely both days yesterday. And I'll get to the football, I will, I promise. Yesterday was even more lovely because yesterday was a sustained 30 mile an hour with gust of 40. Right.
C
Luckily, you don't hit your second shots off the ground.
A
No. What do you mean? Of course, play it low. I just. Yeah, so. So a couple of things happened. I couldn't. I mean, I was not me personally. I was not hitting the three wood at all. I just wasn't making any contact. I wasn't making smooth. So it was just terrible. And it got me to use the seven wood where I hit the best shot of my life. Basically, nobody, Michael will understand this. I was about 125 out on number nine. And the wind is severe and in the wind is severe and into me on number nine and I hit a seven wood, which I. If I hit it well, I can hit it 140, 145 yards. I hit it great. I hit it great to the right hand side of the green where it rolled back down to a foot and a half. It was the best shot I ever Hit, you know, and nobody saw it but me. And I was just. I was just thrilled about that. So I pard 9, which is a.
C
Hard playing into that breeze. You have to slow your swing down because you want to take spin off of the ball.
A
Well, I don't have spin. It's not like I play for spin. But, yeah, I did that. And then 10, the wind is behind, so I got on. And 2. So I. I pard 9 and 10. So it didn't matter that I shot 92, because I was really thrilled. Par 9, 10. Yesterday, I played with a couple of guys I didn't know Mac and Rich. I did not know them. Max, a nice player. He's a very nice player, but I played with a woman named Susan. Her last name, I think is pronounced Lash. It's la, C, Z. And it won't mean much to people around the country, but in Washington, it will. When I say that she owns Ridgewell's Catering, which is the preeminent caterer in Washington, D.C. the purple trucks that you.
C
See see it every day at the independent school routes, right?
A
And they have, by the way, a. With the usga, they cater the US Open. That's pretty cool. Yeah, and that's pretty cool. And it's, you know, it's been around for a long time. And she is. And I said to her at some point, I said, I know this is going to sound patronizing, believe me, I don't mean it that way. Said, I really admire you. She walked. She would go to her ball and hit the ball. She's not hitting it 190 yards, but she's making progress and she's playing fast. All of the things when you're a bad player, like I am, all of the things that you want to play fast, you don't want to hold anybody up because you're going to take more shots than they are, and you're going to be off the course more than they are. So you don't want to hold anybody up. And it was lovely to play with her. And, you know, I just. I mentioned something at some point about this, about the podcast, but maybe I didn't say podcast, because she did say, you know, we'd love to cater your radio show. And I let that go. That was a radio show. That's fine. And I said, what do you mean? I thought you just do big events because you're a catering concern. You know, we actually. We do small things, too. Like, we'll go to your house, we'll bring food and all of that.
C
Nigel looking at each other coming later this morning?
A
Well, I didn't, you know, she said we'd love to bring lunch to the radio show. And I did. I let it go because it's. We're starting at 7:30 in the morning and nobody's up and she's not up. But, but she was, you know, I enjoyed playing with her very much. And she can curse and it's good, you know, like a woman who curses well is a treasure doing it well. Yes, it's just a treasure, you know, when you curse. Well, you know, not just randomly, like very, very specific and it's really pointed. And so anyway, so I got to play all weekend and I got to be done early enough to watch all the football there was. That was important to me. And so that was really.
C
One game was not important to you, clearly. But I don't think you missed much.
A
The Northwestern game is important to Wilbon. Which game?
C
The Commander's game.
A
Oh, no, I didn't care about that at all.
C
9:30? No, no, no.
A
2, 3 and 8 teams. No, no, no. I didn't care about that even a little.
C
And did you watch any of the Michigan, Northwestern game?
A
I got to the end where Wilbon's heart was broken. But we'll talk to him. We'll talk to him about that. I was so upset for him. Well, by the way, just in terms of leading you into this show, the two most important football teams in Wilbourne's life either won or lost on a last second field goal over the weekend. Yeah, Bears. Yeah, Bears and Likes and Northwest.
B
Yeah.
A
So I'll just make a few comments on. On the football that I saw. I was wrong. I thought Texas had a better chance to be Georgia than Oklahoma did to beat Alabama both on the road, both former Big Eight and Big 12 teams and Southwest Conference teams on the road games. You want to see when it's announced that Texas and Oklahoma are going to join the sec, what you want to see is them on the road against Alabama and Georgia because Alabama and Georgia have won five of the last 10 national championships. So you want to see that Oklahoma performed very, very well and beat Alabama and Texas performed not so well, although Texas receivers dropped a lot of archmanning's passes. But I think we are able to say based on yesterday and Saturday that at the moment two sons of Arch Manning and Shedeur Sanders are not there. Not yet. They're not there yet. Shedor Sanders was awful. It was like 4 for 17, you know, and archmanning wasn't very good. So. But I watched. I watched those things with a great amount of interest. I watched the Texas A and M comeback against South Carolina. It's just remarkable. Down 30 to 3. So that gave me. That was, you know, that was a nice thing to do on Saturday. And then on Sunday, I locked into the red zone. I. I just. I'm going to say this out loud. Don't. Please don't tell me anymore how good the Chargers in Atlanta are. Don't tell me. I understand the Chargers have a winning record. I understand they're ahead of Kansas City and behind Denver division, and they'll probably make the playoffs. They were soundly beaten by Jacksonville, which isn't very good at all. Soundly beaten. And Atlanta. I'm just so sick of hearing about how Michael Penix Jr. Is this and the defense is that and Bijan Robinson. Okay, but you lost. Lost to Carolina.
B
Yeah.
A
You lost in division to Carolina. Stop. Shut up. You both fans of these two teams. Leave me alone. It's just not that good. The other things, the other things that stand out. There are a lot of great games and great endings. Yesterday, sure. I mean, even the, Even the Giants game was great until Jameis Winston did what he does. He became Jameis Winston, threw a pick at the end, and they couldn't win the game. Yeah. But they were all these games that were really, really good. Falcons, Carolina, Tennessee, Houston was a great game. Tampa Bay, Buffalo. Josh Allen had six touchdowns. Tampa Bay, Buffalo was a great game.
C
Can I make a comment about that?
A
Yeah.
C
I know you don't follow this stuff, fantasy football.
A
I do not. I just for the. For the little. Highest number ever.
C
He had.
A
Yes.
C
Six touchdowns in our league. He amassed 54 points, which is insane. Yet me and my partner looked at the weather early in the game and said, oh, it's going to be windy in Buffalo.
A
Yeah.
C
Probably shouldn't start.
A
Let's start.
C
Justin Herbert. He's playing Jackson.
B
Oh, my God.
A
That was a bad move.
C
Yes. It's one of the most colossally, colossally stupid things ever done.
A
Bears, Vikings was a great game, but, I mean, what are your takeaways? Your takeaways are of the bigger games. Your takeaways are one that Denver is good. Yeah. Denver held on in a very tight game against a great opponent, and Denver defended home field, and Denver won that game. Philadelphia is so competent. Like it doesn't matter. A.J. brown, shut up. Who cares? It doesn't matter. He got a lot of passes thrown to him. They beat a very good team. Detroit's a very good team. They beat them with defense this year. Kansas City is not winning any of the one score games that they won last year. Philadelphia is winning all of the one score games. It's so hard. How do you bet against Philadelphia? When you watch them, they do miraculous things to win. They beat the Rams on. Blocked a field goal, returned it for a touchdown, you know, and then they, they. They've had a very hard schedule and they have won most of their games. The overwhelming majority of their games. The Seahawks and Rams, Sam Donald, now Sam Darnold and Jared Goff were bad yesterday. They were bad. Don't want you to think it's just Arch Manning and Shador Sanders. Darnold hurt himself for mvp. Goff hurt himself for mvp. They were bad yesterday and their teams lost, but the Seahawks were in it all the way. Seahawks had a long field goal try to win that game.
C
It was 61 yards.
A
The Rams were not scoring. They were. They were taking the ball away constantly. But then they'd get down in the red zone. They didn't score. So those, those four teams in the nfc, the Seahawks, the Rams, the Lions, the Eagles, they look like the final four to me. I mean, maybe Green Bay, maybe. I don't know. Green Bay had to be lucky to win. So I don't know. I'm Green Bay. I'm not sure. I'm not sure Green Bay. The Giants stink, you know, in Green Bay.
C
They're very entertaining this year. They lose games in wild ways, but.
A
Yeah, so. So those were. It was a good weekend of football.
C
Oh, yeah.
A
I don't know if it'll be that. I don't know what's shaping up next weekend, but then Thanksgiving's usually good. Thanksgiving weekend is usually good.
C
Yeah. And the three. We looked at, the three Thanksgiving games, I can't remember if I thought my head.
A
But they're all pretty good. They're pretty good. So. All right. And one other thing. Oh. So I. Yeah. So I'm sitting in a locker room after I play, and a guy from the foursome behind us comes over to me and says, Mr. Kornheiser. And I've reached that point in my.
C
Life, never good starts.
A
I've reached that point in my life where even at the place where I belong, I'm Mr. Corn. I don't want to be.
C
They're just Tony.
A
I would like to be Tony. I don't want to be Mr. Kornheiser. Anyway, this. He was not a member. He was a guest. And he said to me, do you? Do you. By the way, have any connection with Blair. And I go, well, as a matter of fact, I do. My daughter in law, her parents, Chan and Moni Hardwick, they ran Blair for a lot of years. He says, yes, I went to Blair. I'm a graduate 2002. Love it. Doug Freeman. So I immediately wrote Chan and Chan said, yes, he's a very active alum. So that was nice.
C
That's great.
A
But the Mr. Kornheiser part was annoying.
B
That was.
A
That was annoying. Although he's what, he's a couple of years older than you?
C
Yeah, a few years older, yeah. Man, the school has changed so much in those 20 years.
A
The people that I played with on Saturday and, and yes, they're all younger than you. They're all younger than you. I wonder if they'll call you Mr. Kornheiser.
C
So I got used to Mr. Kornheiser just from teaching, but it's time and place. Your Thanksgiving games, you have the packers at lions at the 12:30, Kansas City at Dallas for the 4:30 entertainment. Bengals at Ravens for the NBC Night game.
A
Ravens got lucky again. The Ravens made a great call. They put Mark Anders under center and instead of going up the middle, he went to the outside and it was the killing touchdown.
C
A very chesty 8 year old is watching that with.
A
He likes, yes, Lamar Jackson. You know, Wilbourne's right about Lamar Jackson. He's a step down. Something has happened to him. He does not avoid things the way he used to avoid. He does not make magic as often as he made magic. We will take a break and the aforementioned Michael Wilbon will join us. I am Tony Kornheiser.

And for delivery. This is the Tony Kornheiser Show. This is our friend Jim Baznike. We play his songs a lot. This is called Get It Out One side of the fifth digital single from under the Rock. My upcoming album, all new songs, all of which original composition or co writes. Scheduled for release as an LP as well on digital platforms before the end of this year. Get it out as a hard charging chunk of solid rock that jumps out of the grooves. And he says that both tracks, and he talked. We'll play that on later. Both tracks showcase a variety of guitar sounds interwoven between my axis and those of guitarist Bruce Hazen, who performs on every track on the album. Solid, melodic. Bassist Gary Shelton, who also engineers and co produces with me on the entire project, played bass on both tracks. Drums on both tracks were played well by longtime Jim Baznik band drummer Glenn Hummel plays in Michael Wilbon, who had like a, you know, an unbelievably sort of enervating weekend with the two teams he loves most, with Northwestern and the Bears going down to the end in both games, one win, one loss. Describe how you dealt with this deal.
E
With I need an iv. Yeah, you know, I was exhausted by yesterday afternoon, by the time we got to the four o' clock games and that didn't even include. I wasn't able to attend. You know, Gonzaga played for the playoff game in football Saturday. That was. The Bulls lost a game at the buzzer last night in Utah on a three pointer in double overtime. So it's just, I'm exhausted from my own fanaticism. That's what fanaticism is. But yeah, you mentioned the two main events and you know, I'm still, I'm still, I'm as angry over Northwestern's football loss in Michigan as I have ever been over a Northwestern football loss in my whole life.
A
You need to explain that to people. Because Michigan was a favored team and it went all the way down to the.
B
Michigan was.
E
Yeah. Hugely favored. Michigan's playing for a spot, a ranking spot in the playoffs. I mean, they, they've got two losses, but they won a bunch of games in a row. They're playing at Wrigley Field. So it's our home game. Although 70% of the people in the stands are from Michigan.
A
Is that right?
E
That's always Tony. That's the whole conference. That's everything. It's just like when we go to games and sometimes Cheryl would say to me, well, I don't see the out of town tags. I'm like, cause they live here. They live here. People from Michigan live in Chicago. Every school in the Big Ten, their largest alumni bases in Chicago other than their own state. And every alumni base in the Big Ten in Chicago is larger than Northwestern's.
A
Yes.
E
So you don't have to travel anywhere. You live there. You go to you. You're a Chicagoan otherwise. And so Wrigley Field is full of wolverines, full of maize and blue. And it was just amazing that we led that game. We had five turnovers. We forced five turnovers in that game and lost it on a field goal at the buzzer. This was historic because there has never been a game in NCAA Division 1 history where a team had the benefit of five turnovers and loss.
A
Really? Wow.
E
Ever.
C
Wow.
B
History.
A
Wow.
E
History of Division one. How about that?
A
Wow. Yeah.
E
And so. So that was it, you know, made me crazy. We had interceptions. We had like three of them in the four in the fourth quarter. So there's that. And then going out of that, we come into yesterday in which, you know, the Bears need to win this game at Minnesota. Everybody's. The conversation about the Bears is one thing. It shifted from, you know, is Caleb good enough to be a franchise quarterback to who the Bears beating? They haven't beaten anybody, which is legit. I mean, we haven't beaten a team with a over.500 record all season. And it includes, you know, even with Minnesota Yesterday, which was 4 and 5, the commanders, the Raiders, you know, the Cowboys, the whole. The six wins going into yesterday and now seven are against teams sub 500.
A
Can I remind people that at the beginning of this season, publicly, you said more than once the Bears will start on 5, 0 and 5.
E
No, I said I didn't. I said virtually that. I said my fear is they're going to start on 5. My fear was 05.
A
Yes. How are they doing?
E
Because I just started a long time.
A
To get used to 7 and 3. And your quarterback is not great at the moment. He's fine. It's not great.
E
No, he's not great. Well, nothing on the team is great, but they're 7 3.
A
Let me tell you what is great. Let me tell you what is great on your team. Your coaching staff for the first time in 20 years is great.
E
Yeah, it's great.
A
It is.
E
You know, and so, yes. The first. For the first time since, you know, Lovey Smith and that staff went to a Super bowl and then went to a title game and then got fired after a 10, 6 record. Yeah. For the first time in all that time. Yeah, it's different. And so they win these games at the end after. After falling behind with less than a minute left.
A
Yeah.
E
And so they. The Bears have won seven of eight. The one loss being at Baltimore. So they've won seven of eight. But, you know, the Notion of they haven't beaten anybody is going to either have to change or it's going to really show the flaws. Because the next games, Tony, the next. Okay, so we play Pittsburgh, which does have a winning record Sunday in Chicago. And then I think then there's a Black Friday game against the Eagles in Philly. There's a game against the Browns. Okay, so that's a homecoming opponent. And then we end the season with packers at Niners, Lions at Packers.
A
Okay, so those four are playoff games. Those four to get into the playoffs.
E
Philadelphia and Philadelphia. And Pittsburgh's a winning team.
A
Philadelphia is so good. They're very, very good. They're very, very dependable. They have beaten really good teams. And it's not that long ago, it's only last year that these clowns have been screaming to fire Nick Sirianni. The guy's got the greatest record ever. What are you doing? Right. What are you doing?
E
I'm on a text chain with people, including my dear friend Dwayne McKnight from Philly, a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, lifelong Eagles fan. And all he's doing last night is moaning about how the Eagles don't do anything entertaining and what their offense is. And this is not just him. This is. This is. This is a lot of people crazy who identify with and follow the Eagles. And the amount of moaning and whining is something I dismiss in very colorful language.
B
Yeah.
E
On my text. On my text thread to shut up. All the Eagles do is win.
A
They did.
E
I'm grateful to them last night because they beat Detroit.
A
You're in first place.
E
First place.
A
You're in first place. Let me go back to the college stuff. You. I was wrong. I had Texas with a chance against Georgia. They got thumped. You had Oklahoma beating Alabama. You did.
E
Yeah. Yeah. I haven't thought Alabama was all that good all season. They're good. Are they playoff good? I don't know. That's a second loss. They still got big games to play.
A
That's right.
E
So, you know, they're on the verge of, you know, calamity, which, of course, will have people buying out their coach and all the usual crazy stuff that comes with a single loss of a game at SEC play. So, yeah, I thought that Oklahoma could win that game, and I don't know that this week has those kind of marquee college games. I thought Saturday. Saturday had some great games. And I don't know, like, who Ohio State plays. Rutgers, though. So they still don't play a game that matters. So we're just now Waiting to get to games like the Thanksgiving Day weekend games of Ohio State, Michigan. And I don't think Michigan's any good. I just watched Michigan. I didn't think Michigan was any good going into the Northwestern game. I certainly don't think Michigan, having seen them right, is. You know, I mean, they're good. They're good. They're like a lot of other teams ranked between 25 and 50 in that they're okay. And if things break right, they could win a conference championship and get a bid, but also they could be something in four by the time the regular season ends.
A
So it was a really great weekend for football. The college games were really good. And then the pro games. There were four games in the pros where you said, I really want to watch these games. Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Kansas City, Denver, the Lions and the Eagles and the Rams and the Seahawks. And then there were four other games that went down to the wire. I mean, it was. It was a delight, right? It was great.
E
And did you mention Eagles, Lions? I mean, we were talking about it, but of course, that.
A
Yes.
E
And then, you know, people had their own favorites, you know, if you're the team you're following, like, in my case. And so, yeah, I mean, it was yesterday, I thought, and there were division games, you know, everywhere. The Carolina Atlanta game was entertaining.
A
Yes.
E
And I watched, you know, more of that than I should have. So there were a lot of entertaining games yesterday. I thought yesterday was the best slate of NFL games this season. And then I see next week we sort of take a, you know, drop off from the games I was looking at. I don't think next week's games are all that attractive. And you can't have every weak chocolate. Great game.
A
Who do you think this is? I'm anticipating this as a PTI question. Who do you think had the best win yesterday? That. The best win?
E
Probably Denver. But because they dispatched a monster and a rival and they couldn't knock them, they knock them back on their heels. And if they didn't get rid of them, they wounded them. Yeah, I'm gonna say Denver because the other things are, you know, they may focus on one person. Tonight's game doesn't matter.
A
No, tonight's game doesn't matter.
E
You know, there's some. There's some. There were several good wins. You know, Josh Allen's performance was, you know, terrific. But Tampa's wounded, and Buffalo should win that game at home. But I think. I think Denver, even though they were.
A
At home, everybody who won was at home. If you look back, all the really big wins. Buffalo was at home. Denver was at home. The Eagles were at home. The Rams were at home. I mean, those were really big wins. I mean, I thought. I think that's probably our final four, or maybe there's another one in there. It's interesting. As I thought about this just before asking you, my initial reaction was to say Buffalo because they had just lost and they needed to win a game, and Tampa Bay is a quite a good team and they were competitive throughout the whole thing. But the more I think about it, the more I think it's the Eagles because they, you know, yes, it's not a glamor win, and yes, it's at home, and yes, it's only 16 to 9, but they smother a really good offensive team. They destroyed Jared Goff and Jared Goff and Sam Darnold just fell out of the MVP race. I mean, I'm. I don't know why I feel this way. I am continually impressed when Philadelphia wins because I know that right under the surface, AJ Brown is trying to blow the team up, you know, so.
E
Yeah, yeah. You know, Philadelphia, I mean, they. I thought that I had them win that game at home. I'm not all that certain of what to make it.
A
Detroit, they have four losses now. I'm surprised by that. Yeah, I thought they were better than that.
E
Four losses with tough games to go.
A
Yeah.
E
I mean, they got. Hard game. They got, you know, all of a sudden their games, they. They got another one against Green Bay. They got. They got one against the Bears. They've got tough games to play. So they're not going to go. They're not going to go 13 and 4.
A
No, they're not.
B
So they're in a struggle.
E
There's no great team. The teams you would say maybe could be great. You could say the Rams who had Philly beat, maybe. And they won that game, by the way. By the way. Despite Sam Darnold's inner.
A
They had a chance to win. They had a chance to win. Yeah.
E
Yeah. So I don't have the Rams being any better, I agree with you. Than Seattle. That game was in L. A.
A
That's right.
E
And they won. They won by three feet. So there's some. There's a. There's a bunch of teams out there. I think, Tony, on the same level, but I don't think there's a great win. Philadelphia can stick its nose ahead maybe of everybody else right now, given the.
A
Teams just by a little. You're right. Just by a nose.
E
By a little.
A
That's it.
E
Yeah.
A
All right. I'll see you later. I'm sure we'll talk about it. I'll see you later.
E
All right, Tom.

C
They wear a vest.
A
Well, it plays in Pat 40. Look, I, I understand that you don't control the college football playoff rankings as done by the committee and I don't know, I'll just ask you on the air, do you want to talk about the Baylor guy Before we do the school. So you want to talk about the Baylor guy after because I don't know what that is.
B
Yeah, I should control the playoff rankings, let's be clear about that.
A
Right Tony?
D
Right.
B
But I don't. So we can start with the Baylor guy, as you put it. Mack Rhodes. Yes.
A
All of a sudden in the middle of the day there's an announcement that he's stepping down as head of the college football committee and he's stepping down as the AD of Baylor. And then Baylor is very quick to put out what he's being. What he's not being accused of. Do we know what he is being accused of?
B
We don't, but it doesn't sound too good. You know they. I think this is an investigation of faith based policies. I think at the school, obviously school.
A
Right.
B
And he had had a weird like in game or pregame altercation with their start.
A
Undershirt. About an undershirt. Yeah, yeah.
B
Very odd. Very odd. Apparently triggered by the color yellow. Even that is what. That's one of Baylor's colors. So kind of a problem there and then. Yeah, things just kind of went from there. They said there was more information about something else and you know, I would say I thought Mac Rhodes looked and sounded haggard, disheveled, a little disoriented even on the, the last playoff show. So I think this was looming over him. And shortly thereafter we have, we have this.
A
He appears to be done that. This is. He's not coming back. Right? That's how it appears.
B
I would be shocked if he comes back.
A
Yeah, me too. Me too. It's just so such a weird story and of course we don't have all of it yet and we hope there are people who are trying to report it, but we'll see.
B
All right.
A
How far does Alabama drop?
B
Not out by any means, but probably out of hosting a first round game. I would think so into the last four spots, 9, 10, 11, 12. They have a lot of good wins now. They've got obviously that loss at home and then what frankly looks like a terrible loss now to Florida State. Open the season by two touchdowns. Florida State's a 5 and 5 team and a not very good league. And it's kind of funny. I mean one thing that seems clear, this is not necessarily new with the playoff but if you're going to lose, lose early because Notre Dame did it and they're okay. Alabama did it and they're going to be okay provided they win their last two games. So they take a hit. But they're not out of the bracket is Texas.
A
If there's ever going to be a three loss team, it seems to me it will be from the sec. I'm not saying it will be Texas. Texas now has three losses but aren't there losses to top 10 ranked teams and can you make a case for them?
B
Well, except for the loss to 3 and 7 Florida.
A
Oh, okay, right.
B
Yeah, that's a problem. Yes, the other two losses, look, I mean Ohio State I think is, is has moved to the, clearly to the head of the pack as the best team but and Georgia's not that far behind. Georgia was still might be the best team in the sec. So those two losses are not bad at all. Although I was at the the Georgia game and they got steamrolled in the fourth quarter. I was a 21 nothing fourth quarter. But yeah, look, they are I would think the top three loss candidate and there's a very good chance the three loss team does get in. Now they don't really have to be. Well, they've got to beat Texas A.
A
And M. Oh, that would be a big one. Yes, that would be a big one.
E
Yeah.
B
If they can do that then they're going to sit there at 9 and 3 and say look, we've got good win wins, we play in a tough league, blah blah blah. We'll see where everything else shakes out. But they'll at least have an argument. I don't think they're getting in at 9 and 3 but they'd have a chance.
A
Let me talk about Texas A and M for a second. In in the light of what Indiana did a week ago, I didn't think Indiana should get dropped even though they went down to the wire with Penn State. And I didn't think so because I thought it was such a thrilling win and it was on the road and I thought that, that the catch was so great and I think, I still think that Mendoza should be the number one guy in the Heisman vote at the moment. And I look at Texas A and M in the same way that Texas A and M, okay, South Carolina is not a great team but it's a remarkable comeback and to me dropping. And Indiana was not dropped. They were not dropped out of two. Do you think Texas A and M there's any chance they'll be dropped out of three?
B
I don't and I agree with everything you said about Indiana and about A and M and I mean it's hard to go undefeated and there are games where it's going to be on the line and can you make the plays to win? And Indiana did on the road. This was at home and this was not a very good South Carolina team. Still you're down 30 to three and they came back and they didn't do it because South Carolina turned the ball over. They didn't do it because they blocked a punt, ran it back. They just stopped them and then blitzed down and scored four straight times and took the lead. So you know, I give them credit for the comeback. It's a, it's an incredible comeback. South Carolina's got to be sick because they, they quote unquote blew it. But they blew it to a team that played incredibly well for a stretch of about 20 minutes to take the lead back.
A
I do want to see Texas A and M. Texas, I mean, you know, I. Right, everybody's going to want to see that one, right?
B
Absolutely. And look, A and M has had some, some good fortunes. Matter of fact, right before we came on to tape this, I was looking up the amount of times they've been in a one score game in the second half. And it is often against not very good teams, against Arkansas, against Florida, against Mississippi State. But they've never, obviously never lost those games. They've also never trailed. They were getting close and then they would, they would pull away. And the real big escape was go goes back to Notre Dame when Notre Dame dropped an extra point snap that would have put them up 7, instead they were up 6 and Texas A&M drove to score with 6 seconds or 13 seconds left to, to win the game. But so they've had some close escapes. I want to see him win in Austin before I say they should be on the same level with Ohio State and Indiana.
A
That's all fair. My great joy in watching the committee playoff show. It's a show and I like it. I think it's a well done show. I watch it whenever it's on. My great joy is that the committee hates the acc. Like loads them beyond anything you can ever imagine. Right. They hate the acc. What about the acc?
B
The ACC is a mess. It's a mess. They, you know, Miami was in great position and they choked like dogs.
A
Yeah.
E
Yeah.
B
Georgia Tech had the one loss and otherwise keeps having close escapes against the light schedule. Louisville blew it. Clemson was, is no good. Florida State is no good. Virginia a great story but very lucky. I mean they are been the luckiest team this season. So you know they're in a world of hurt if they're trying to get two teams into, into the playoff. I Think that's going to be a one and done league, just the league champions getting in.
A
I think that same about the Big 12. Do you?
B
Probably so, yeah. I mean I think the only chance that is different is if BYU and tc, BYU and Texas Tech each with one loss, play again in the championship game. And it's a great game and there's some losses elsewhere but most likely I think the, the Big 12 is also one big league.
A
So. Yeah, so. So I've got the Big 12 with one and the ACC with one and the gang of five with one and Notre Dame and that's eight. Now there are eight other spots out there which are going to go to the Big Ten and are going to go to the sec. And this is why the question of a three loss team comes up, right. Because somebody some good teams going to have three. Couple of good teams going to have three. I think.
E
Yeah, yeah, that.
B
No, exactly. That's. You've done the math and that's the way it shakes out. And right now, I mean unless there's some more SEC carnage, I think the Big Ten is going to have a hard time getting a fourth team.
A
Yes.
E
There.
A
Yes.
B
You got now if USC beats Oregon this weekend, that's different. That could change things.
A
Right.
B
But absent of that.
E
Yeah.
B
I think that we're looking at maybe six or seven SEC teams battling for five spots and right now the top four are pretty clear and it's Texas A and M, it's Georgia, it's Mississippi and it's Alabama. And then is it Oklahoma or Texas? Oklahoma now has the better record and has played a better schedule. But lost.
A
But lost head to head. Lost head to head. Yeah.
B
And then there's Vanderbilt hanging around out there shining's Vanderbilt Commodore. So you know, you never know.
A
The whole thing is wonderful to watch. And I don't know how anyone honestly can say that the Southeast Conference is not totally preeminent. I just, it's just obvious to me. But you spend a lot of time around college football. Is that obvious to everyone or is it not?
B
It is. Unless you're in denial. Yeah. If, you know, if you just. If you read one of those people that's sick of the SEC or tired of the some of the strong arm tactics from the league or whatever the case may be, but otherwise.
E
No.
B
You mean you watch them play and you watch the non conference schedule and they played a hard non conference schedule and won most of the games they had. Alabama lost and Texas lost, but Texas lost by seven points at Ohio State. Alabama had the Florida State lost, which you can't excuse, but otherwise they handle business across the board. And, you know, Texas A and M winning at Notre Dame, Oklahoma beating Michigan, etc. So it's the best league. They're going to deserve the five bids they get.
A
I agree with that. I mean, if I was the sec, I would just say to the chairman of the Big Ten, okay, we're going to leave now. We're going to make our own conference. You're welcome to join, and we'll add three or four other people, and we'll get to 30, and that'll be it. And then the rest of the people can pound sand.
B
Right?
A
Wouldn't you do that? Wouldn't you do that? I mean, I would do that.
B
I mean, if you want to create the NFL Light, go ahead. I prefer having, you know, more conferences and more people, and I actually like the PAC 12 back when that existed.
A
Sure, sure. But it doesn't. Because they had the worst commissioner in the history of mankind. It doesn't exist anymore. I don't know. I don't know. And it's. It's a shame that all of those schools are dispersed around the country, but, you know, the reality of college football now is that it is professional football, right? It is.
B
Oh. Oh, yeah, it is. It is. But I still don't. I don't want to see an NFL structure. Okay, you can call it professional football, but I. I still prefer let's have a Big 12 champion that plays in the national tournament. Let's have a champion that plays in the national tournament. Let's even let in a James Madison or a South Florida or two lane and have them play. You know, I've always loved the basketball tournament for the. For inclusion and diversity.
A
Who is right now. Who's the leader in the gang of five right now? Because South Florida just lost. Who's the leader now?
B
Yeah, so, I mean, it might be James Madison. Wow. 9 and 1 or 10 and 1. And the only losses to Louisville. Who's good team it might be. You know, take your pick. There's still like four teams in the running in the American Conference, which has actually been pretty good this year, you know. Right. So it might still be South Florida, but it might be Tulane, might be Navy. So, you know, there's still, I think, a lot of drama to be had in that league to figure out who's even playing in the championship game.
A
Okay. Plug your podcast or plug whatever you're doing. We'll. We'll let you do that. Just whatever you're Doing what are you plugging?

All right. That'll just about do it for us today. Let me get to this before we get to the mailbag. Splish splash. I was taking a bath long about a Saturday night Rubbed up, just relaxed in the tub thinking everything was all right well I stepped out the tub, put my feet on the floor wrapped the towel around me and opened the door. And then splish splash. I jumped back in the bath. How was I to know there was a poem party going on? That's Bobby Darin. Might be his first big hit. It's 60 years ago if it's a day. Great. 60 years ago at least. Thanks to our guest Today, Michael Wilbon. Pat40. Thanks as well to today's sponsors. Remember that you can listen to us on Apple podcasts Spotify and Odyssey. Get show through Apple. Please leave us a review from Avi Sherman in Montreal in Canada. My name is Avi Sherman. I'm writing from Montreal, Canada and I should clarify up front that I have no connection whatsoever to the Sherman Propane company in Delaware, Sherman Heating Oils in Milton, Delaware who have not called. They have not no, they don't care about my business. They don't care. I understand you may be expecting a call from a Mr. Sherman regarding your propane situation. If that call does not materialize, I'd be delighted to offer my services as the official Mr. Sherman replacement phone caller of the Tony Kornheiser show. That's cute. Should you require my assistance, I'd be happy to call in and discuss any number of important topics, like two bathrobe situations, the glory days of the Big east, or even the legendary Peter Yarrow story, which is great. From Greg Cortland in Kalamazoo in Michigan. Dr. Satchmo, in regards to the propane situation, clearly your time has passed and it's time for your son to handle the family business. How I imagine the near future propane supplier. I want your signature on the high rate contract by noon tomorrow. One more thing. Don't call this office again. Ever. From now on, you deal with Brendan Customer service. Michael Kornheiser. Sir, you can have my answer on the propane matter now if you'd like. My final offer is this. Nothing. Not even a prepaid rate. I missed the window for. For which I would appreciate if you would put up personally. Give it a try. I bet Michael's handy with a horse if it comes to that. Well, a pony, at least A pony.
B
Love Kalamazoo.
A
Kalamazoo promise in Washington D.C. even though I currently live and work in Washington D.C. i'm not a true Washingtonian since I was born in New York and went to high school in Silver Spring at Blair, not Blair Academy, the other player. If that doesn't disqualify me, I want to write in. In response to your outrage of your inability to use paper money to buy food at the Binghamton Georgetown game, it turns out that federal law does not generally require businesses to accept hard currency in exchange for goods and services, as opposed to in satisfaction of pre existing debts. But the District of Columbia is one of the handful of local jurisdictions that does have a law requiring businesses to accept cash for goods and services. Indeed, it went into effect January 1st of this year. The problem in your case is that the law has an exception for businesses that provide machines for customers to load cash on your prepaid card that they can then use as a means of payment. A reverse atm, of which Capital One arena, as its website is quick to tell you, has several. I'm not sure if this qualifies you to be the official nerdy law. Qualifies me to be the official nerdy law professor. Professor. The Tony corners of the show. But I appreciate you all the same. So that is the technicality. Yeah.
C
Yes.
A
That if you can, you could put.
C
$20 into a machine, it'll give you a debit card.
A
I feel hope.
C
I'm sure there's going to be money lost somewhere in that. My bigger issue is they don't let you keep the bottle cap for a bottle of water. So you have the kids walking down.
A
To the sea, spill the water. Yeah, that's a bad idea.
C
So they don't. Is it a littering thing or no? I think so. It doesn't become a projectile.
A
Jeremy from Long Beach. I hope it's Long Beach, Long Island. On Friday's show, you talked about how you think you went to your last live basketball game, one of the main reasons being because you can't use cold hard cash to buy food. You also mentioned people stopping you to ask for pictures and to say hello. Well, the solution is simple, old sport. You want a picture. That'll be a club sample. Look in a post about seeing Mr. Tony at your local DMV sporting event. That'll be a Johnnie Walker Blue on the rocks. Get the littles to supply you with substance to enjoy the game. Maybe some for your grandsons. From John Hutchinson in North Cowichan, British Columbia, Canada. The following is secondhand information from my financial counsel that was explained to me years ago, so take it with a dash of salt from Omaha. Legal tender is indeed legally required to be accepted as a payment for a debt. However, it is at a vendor's discretion whether or not to provide products or services in order to establish said debt. As these contracts require. Goods are basically established instantly in real time at point of sale. The vendors have the discretion to essentially not complete the transaction and not enter into the contract. They are not refusing cash. They are refusing sale of a product or service which will result in a cash payment to satisfy the debt. Which feels like a legal technicality to me though I appreciate it. I do. I hate cash with the fury of a thousand will bonds. Railing against marketing people and as a business owner who provides in home service services. We discourage cash payments for a variety of reasons. It can get lost or stolen, mistakes are made in county and worst of all, it forces us to physically go into a bank and make the deposit. Checks, credit cards and EFTs are the order. What is an EFT are the order of the day and in fact our entire operation is paperless. Covid is a big impetus for some of these changes, but ultimately speed, accuracy, convenience, yes, your convenience and security are the biggest benefits for both ourselves and our clients. No, my convenience is cash, so EFT.
C
Electronic Funds Transfer Okay.
A
At the end of the day, however, I have to accept cash because our services are rendered before a final payment amount can be generated. Due to the unpredictable nature of services, I can't know beforehand whether a final Invoice will be $50 or $5,000. And we are not going into our contract with an established final price, whereas with products the prices are predetermined and fixed. So. I understand that. I understand you'd have to take cash if we don't know what the price is until after the completion. But if the price is posted and they know, I guess that's the difference. Matt in San Antonio I spent the summer after high school working on Endicott island in Prudhomm Bay. Prudhoe Bay, Alaska Endicott is a man made island constructed to support oil operations in the northernmost part of Alaska, near and in some cases north of the Arctic Circle. So square in the Midwest During a rec league softball game I hit home run to right field. Literally, not figuratively, off of North America and into the Beaufort Sea. I bet Shohei hasn't done that. From Brandon Borzelli I don't know if this qualifies as the greatest game ever or even the greatest coach game ever. It is definitely in the mix for the greatest inning managed ever. Two years ago my 10 year old was playing in their baseball league's championship game. His team had worked through the losers bracket to get to the championship. His team had beaten the top team once and with double elimination this game was for all the marbles. As the assistant coach, myself and the head coach had noticed their bottom hitters typically strayed too far off base and seemed ripe for the hidden ball trick. We saved that knowledge when we really needed it. Yeah, do it to a 12 year old. Last ups for the top seed and we are clinging to a one run lead with a seven eight nine hitters due up. We walk the lead off guy. The next kid hits a dribbler in between the mound and second and the kid beats it out. It was the kid's first hit all season. As he's celebrating at first base, his mom goes over near the dugout on the first base side to take her place. Picture of him standing triumphantly on first. The batted ball had been picked up by the first baseman, never thrown back to the Peach pitcher. He casually walked over and tagged the kid out as he was posing for his mom while not standing on the back bedlam erupts. After minutes of screaming from parents, coaches and kids, play resumes. The ninth place hitter reaches on a fielder's choice as our third baseman tries to tag the kid going from second to third and miss him. Now it's first and third with one out. We signal for the hidden ball trick. First baseman jogs over to the pitcher, not standing on the mound, whispers something while the pitcher dumps the ball in his glove. The first baseman jogs over to first while the pitcher stands at the base of the mound pretending to motion to the catcher to back up in the box. The kid on first is dancing as he strays off the base. Doing the floss.
B
Oh no.
A
Doing the Flaunce. Ask Michael. Slot 6, 7. At least he's tagged out. The opposing team erupts again. While this is happening, the kid on third jogs across the mound thinking that was a a third out. He's tagged out by the first baseman. Game over. Championship secured. We call that the Floss game. The Floss kid is our neighbor. Wherever I see him outside dancing, I smile and think of the floss. I love Brendan Borzilla. God, I love him. Dylan from Des Moines. Hi. I was listening to the show today. Heard your rant about cashless sports arenas. Have you heard about the most recent sorcery from the US Treasury? They're ending production of the penny. Yeah, prior to 2016. My uncle used to joke that the Chicago Cubs hadn't won the World Series since the existence of the Ottoman Empire. I can already feel the new iteration of the joke coming. The last time the Washington Wizards were champions, the penny was still in mint. Yeah, but there are pennies all over. Yeah, they'll be here forever. They're pennies from heaven. Yeah, you know they're all over. There's billions. Carl in Oswego, New York. Chuck and Roxy397. My last college roommate, Ron was from Bluefield, West Virginia. Is this the new game? Am I playing it right? From Jeff Schultz. Saturday morning I went to the cabin John Village, Bethesda Bagels. Get a famous bagel sandwich with the woman who I am not related to by marriage. While waiting on her turkey egg, turkey sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches. The Gonzaga swimming coach walked in. Yes, the one from Wilbon's second favorite purple school. He was on the phone with whoever he ordered breakfast with and apparently thought he ordered from the wrong Bethesda bagel location when his order was not on the to go shelf. To cut to the chase of Bethesda bagels, associate immediately tries to help him and when they realized he had ordered from a different best baker Bethesda bagel location but a different bagel place all together over at Potomac Village. The associate asked him what he had ordered, gave him the same order at no cost and asked him to come back and tell her which one he liked better from overhearing this exchange. I'll be back and I'm sure Coach Kilner will as well. Glad to see your advertisers share your values. Isn't that that's great story and one more PG and I are on our way down to Florida. Just drove through Fredericksburg at 80 miles an hour regards PG. Really you're the only person ever must have been at 2 in the morning everybody else gets stop for I don't know a week if you're out on your bike T everyone is always do wear white what's that?

Could you see when I'm down? I just shake it up and get it out of my mind. Cause you see when I'm down I just shake it up get out of my mind. We were just kids playing in our own backyard on top of the world in our basement of dreams and now it seems like yesterday's dust on an old amplifier it was our day in the sun we stood and watched it go down Waiting for another place to play out our time like dogs on the run Will I think of you and our days in the sun and our days in the sun Will I think of you Bring us a day in the sun Give us a day in the sun. We were just troops Playing on our stage of passion following paces and moonlit turned faces hiding away.

Episode: “She Cursed Well”
Date: November 17, 2025
Host: Tony Kornheiser
Notable Guests: Michael Wilbon, Pat Forde (“Pat40”)
This episode finds Tony Kornheiser reflecting on a sports-packed weekend—golf, NFL, college football, and more—with his signature mix of self-deprecation and sharp wit. Regulars Michael Wilbon and Pat Forde join to unpack emotional wins and losses (notably for Northwestern and the Bears), analyze the shifting college football playoff picture, and swap both big-picture league musings and granular details about particular games and teams. As always, the conversation veers from serious sports takes to the absurdities of modern convenience and nostalgia for simpler times.

Tony’s signature blend of humor, humility, and skepticism permeates the show: he pokes fun at himself, marvels at minor joys (like a good golf shot or a cursing playing partner), and voices frank opinions about sports and society. Wilbon and Pat Forde match his fun, insight, and candor, making for a lively, relatable, and sharply-observed sports conversation.
This episode offers an authentic slice of Tony Kornheiser—ruminations on aging, camaraderie, and sports agony and ecstasy—anchored by lively, insightful breakdowns of both NFL and college football action. Much like the best sporting weekends, it’s full of dramatic finishes, unexpected laughs, and really good company.
