December 14, 2011. Andover, Massachusetts. 69-year old John “Jack” Magee and his 67-year old wife, Geraldine “Jeri” Magee, are found shot to death inside their mansion in what appears to be a professional hit. There are no signs of robbery or forced entry at the scene, though it turns out that the couple’s SUV was stolen and driven 20 miles to the North End of Boston before it was set on fire. Even though the Magees are wealthy and Jack owned a successful construction company, they do not appear to have any known enemies and investigators are unable to find anything in the couple’s backgrounds to shed any light on potential motives for their murders. On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a perplexing double homicide from New England which has remained unsolved for nearly 14 years. June 24, 1991. Boarhills, Scotland. The body of 33-year old Sandy Drummond is found on a farm track across the road from his cottage and it is determined that he was choked to death with what is described as a “ju-jitsu stranglehold”. In the days prior to his death, Sandy had suddenly quit his job without notice and withdrew nearly all of his money from his accounts, leading to speculation that someone may have been bullying or blackmailing him. Investigators explore a number of different leads, including eyewitness sightings of an orange car parked outside Sandy’s cottage before he was killed, but are unable to determine a clear-cut motive for the crime. On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we travel to Scotland to explore one of their most perplexing unsolved murders. October 26, 2015. Calgary, Alberta. Lee Antoni, the husband of 31-year old Amanda Antoni, returns home, from a weekend trip and discovers Amanda’s body lying in a pool of blood inside their basement. Two days earlier, a phone call between Amanda and Lee had abruptly cut off and since her broken cell phone is found on the floor, police initially believe that Amanda was attacked and her death was a homicide. However, after failing to turn up any strong suspects or forensic evidence pointing towards an outside party, investigators start to consider the possibility that Amanda actually suffered an accidental fatal fall down the stairs. Was Amanda Antoni the victim of foul play or was her death nothing more than a tragic accident? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a Canadian case that was recently featured on the “Unsolved Mysteries” reboot. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Calgary Police Service at (403) 266-1234 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) Additional Reading: https://unsolved.com/gallery/body-in-the-basement/ https://globalnews.ca/news/2306865/family-of-amanda-antoni-desperate-for-answers-in-her-mysterious-death/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/amanda-antoni-calgary-homicide-castleridge-1.3290985 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/calgary-amanda-antoni-death-ruled-accidental-1.3895003 https://globalnews.ca/tag/amanda-antoni/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/amanda-antoni-unsolved-mysteries-netflix-calgary-police-1.7281846 https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/new-unsolved-mysteries-episode-examines-death-of-calgary-woman-1.6984557 https://calgaryherald.com/news/crime/death-of-calgary-woman-featured-in-new-unsolved-mysteries-episode “The Trail Went Cold” is on Patreon. November 15, 1986. Willow Creek, California. A fire breaks out at a mobile home belonging to the family of 16-year old twin sisters, Jill and Julie Hansen. Both girls receive shotgun blasts to the stomach and while Jill dies at the scene, Julie passes away at the hospital one month later. Since evidence implicates their 21-year old half-brother, Donny Hansen, he is charged with arson and murder and goes on trial for the crime. However, since eyewitnesses reported seeing two other unidentified men near the scene that night, this creates enough reasonable doubt for the jury to acquit Donny. Was Donny Hansen truly innocent of this crime or did he get away with murder? Could other suspects have been involved in what happened? On this week’s episode of the “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a bizarre murder case which tore an entire family apart. May 22, 1982. Hamersville, Ohio. 46-year old appliance repairman Permon Gilbert leaves his family’s home to perform some service calls. He never returns and his nude body is found in a ditch the following day. Investigators fail to turn up any strong leads, but numerous theories surround Permon’s murder. Was his death connected to drug trafficking? Was he killed because of his brother’s recent testimony in an organized crime case? Or could his murder have been the result of a secret affair gone wrong? We explore each of these possibilities on our newest minisode of “The Trail Went Cold”.
