I'm DailyMail.com journalist Marjorie Hernandez and over the last six months I've been investigating this incredible story and speaking to the people in the eye of the storm. Welcome to the Trial of Diddy.
Jay Z
Hey everyone, I'm Kayla Brantley and welcome to a very special episode of the Trial of Diddy podcast. Today we have a super quick update because on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Jay Z was pulled into the heart of the Diddy case and he found himself having to deny allegations that he drugged and raped a 13 year old girl alongside Diddy during an MTV Video Music Awards after party in 2000. Now the original federal lawsuit which had only named Sean Combs has now been refiled by Texas based attorney Tony Busby. Busby, who we've spoken a lot about on this show. Now it cites the accuser, known only as Jane Doe, who alleges that she was assaulted at the house party by the two superstars. And she also alleges that an unnamed female celebrity was in the room at the time. The lawsuit states that the 13 year old girl was drugged and raped by both Jay Z and Diddy at a party hosted by Diddy himself. The accuser alleges that Jay Z and Combs actually took turns raping her at the party after she had consumed a drink that made her feel, quote, woozy and lightheaded. She says she later escaped by hitting Combs in the neck as he assaulted her before running to a gas station where she was picked up by her father. Now, of course, Jay Z has already come out hitting back at these accusations. In a lengthy statement on X, Jay Z, whose real name is Sean Carter, said, quote, these allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one. Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away. Would you not agree these alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case? This lawyer who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these types of theatrics, unquote. Now, the lawyer that Jay Z is referring to, as we said before, is Tony Busby. He'd previously sent Jay Z a letter seeking to mediate a settlement. Now, Busby said the lawsuit, quote, speaks for itself himself and that this is, quote, a very serious matter that will be litigated in court. Jay Z's statement went on to offer support to, quote, the true victims in this world who have to watch how their life story is dressed in costume for profitability by this ambulance chaser in a cheap suit. So those are very harsh words there by Jay Z. He stated that Busby's, quote, terrible error in judgment was assuming the same thing about all celebrities. I'm not from your world, Jay Z wrote. I'm a young man who made it out of the projects of Brooklyn. We don't play these games. We have very strict codes and honor. Now, Jay Z goes on to say, we protect children. And then he's speaking to Busby directly when he says, you seem to exploit people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists fake physics, which we think he means to say psychics there, will believe the idiotic claims you have leveled against me. That if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable. I look forward to showing you just how different I am. Now, clearly those are such strong words by Jay Z. This is an emphatic denial. And he goes straight after busby here. Molly McPherson, who's a journalist and crisis communication expert, reacted to Jay Z statement in a piece for Forbes.com saying, quote, instead of sticking to a careful, polished narrative, he's rolling out a hodgepodge of tough talk, personal history and brand clout all smashed together to for shift in the conversation. He decided to come out swinging. And one thing is clear. Jay Z is not admitting anything and he's ready for a fight. Now, that proves absolutely clear. If you listen to any of the words that Jay Z wrote there, he means business and he's absolutely denying all these claims and really going after them. And the alleged victim in this matter now, Sean Combs Diddy has, it's important to say, denied all allegations against him. And that includes this latest one he's currently in jail on sex trafficking charges to which he's pleaded not guilty. We'll be following up on this story with an expert guest this week, so don't forget to Follow us on TikTok@DailyMailCrime and follow the trial of Diddy wherever you get your podcasts. Goodbye.
The Trial of Diddy: Episode Summary – "100 Problems and Diddy's One"
Release Date: December 9, 2024
In the landmark episode titled "100 Problems and Diddy's One," hosts Kayla Brantley and Germania Rodriguez delve deep into the burgeoning legal saga surrounding Sean "Diddy" Combs. As one of hip-hop's most influential figures, Diddy's fall from grace has captivated global audiences, bringing to light serious allegations that could reshape his legacy.
The episode opens by outlining the gravity of the situation. Diddy Combs faces multiple federal charges in New York, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and running a criminal enterprise. These charges mark a stark contrast to his illustrious career in the 90s and 2000s, where he produced hits for artists like Biggie, Mary J. Blige, and Jennifer Lopez.
Marjorie Hernandez sets the stage by stating:
"[...] the once untouchable hip hop mogul is fighting for his life as he faces multiple federal charges in New York, including sex trafficking and allegedly running a criminal enterprise." (00:25)
The podcast highlights that Diddy has been embroiled in four separate lawsuits in recent weeks, all alleging sexual assault. A particularly disturbing accusation involves an event from the early 2000s.
Kayla Brantley describes a specific incident:
"Combs can be seen grabbing Ventura and throwing her to the ground. Oh, this guy is dangerous." (00:52)
A woman has come forward with claims that escalate the seriousness of the allegations against Diddy.
A significant development in the case is the re-filing of the original lawsuit by Texas-based attorney Tony Busby. The updated lawsuit not only names Diddy but also Jay Z (Sean Carter), alleging that both artists drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl during an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2000.
Kayla Brantley elaborates:
"The lawsuit states that the 13-year old girl was drugged and raped by both Jay Z and Diddy at a party hosted by Diddy himself." (01:24)
The accuser, referred to as Jane Doe, claims that both superstars took turns assaulting her after she consumed a drink that left her "woozy and lightheaded." She alleges she escaped by hitting Diddy in the neck and was later rescued by her father.
In response to these allegations, Jay Z issued a strong public statement on X (formerly Twitter), vehemently denying all claims.
Jay Z asserted:
"These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one. Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away." (01:24)
He further criticized attorney Tony Busby, suggesting a pattern of questionable tactics:
"This lawyer who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these types of theatrics." (01:24)
In a direct address to Busby, Jay Z continued:
"You seem to exploit people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists fake psychics [...] will believe the idiotic claims you have leveled against me." (01:24)
Molly McPherson, a journalist and crisis communication expert, provided her insights for Forbes.com, noting Jay Z's strategic approach:
"Instead of sticking to a careful, polished narrative, he's rolling out a hodgepodge of tough talk, personal history and brand clout all smashed together to shift the conversation. He decided to come out swinging." (01:24)
McPherson emphasized that Jay Z's vehement denial and aggressive stance indicate a readiness to contest the allegations robustly.
Amidst these developments, Diddy remains incarcerated facing the latest sex trafficking charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty. The podcast underscores the severity of the situation, emphasizing that both Diddy and Jay Z are under intense scrutiny as the legal processes unfold.
Marjorie Hernandez reiterates:
"It's important to say, denied all allegations against him." (01:24)
The episode concludes by promising continued coverage of this high-profile case, including expert interviews and deeper investigations into the evolving legal battles. Listeners are encouraged to stay connected through various social media platforms and to engage with the podcast for ongoing updates.
