Marjorie Hernandez
I'm DailyMail.com journalist Marjorie Hernandez, and over the last six months I've been investigating this incredible story and speaking to the people in the eye of the storm. Welcome to the trial of Diddy.
Kayla Brantley
Hey, I'm Kayla Brantley, reporter at large for Daily Mail in Manhattan.
Marjorie Hernandez
And I'm Marjorie Hernandez, DailyMail.com's West coast news editor.
Kayla Brantley
And welcome to episode 26 of the trial of Diddy. Give or take a week or so. We're six months into this mad adventure and truly what a journey it's been. When we launched back at the beginning of October last year, Diddy had only been in the MDC for a little over two weeks and everything was brand new. And since then, Marjorie, a lot has.
Marjorie Hernandez
Happened, too many things. And thankfully we have been able to keep up with everything and as it was, but probably doesn't feel quite so new now. So when we began this podcast that he was facing 12 charges and as of today, March 12, he is facing more than 100 different lawsuits dating back into the 1990s. The very latest suit was just filed two weeks ago by Kendra Haffeny, who in 2007 appeared on VH1's reality show I Want to Work for Diddy. Haffenny says she was invited to attend an after party of the show. Brooke Combs offered her a drink that she accepted before immediately beginning to feel the effects. She alleged she ultimately passed out and woke up in her bed at the show's house with Diddy sitting close to her half Andy claims that she knew she had been sexually assaulted and raped. She also claims that when Diddy took the cast across the country to la, he he assaulted her again.
Kayla Brantley
And Diddy has always vehemently denied all the allegations he's faced, literally since we started six months ago. He's pleaded not guilty after charges were initially filed. Diddy himself has called the allegations sickening and has said they, quote, were made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. His lawyers told DailyMail.com's Mr. Combs and his legal team have full confidence in the facts and, and the integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone, man or woman, adult or minor. And back in mid February, Diddy's lawyers filed a motion to dismiss an aspect of the federal indictment in which he is accused of, quote, transportation to engage in prostitution, claiming that no white person has ever been the target of a remotely similar prosecution. A few weeks ago, Diddy claimed he's been singled out because of his race and is being, quote, prosecuted for conduct that regularly goes unpunished because he is, quote, a powerful black man. So, Marjorie, you've been deep into this story for a very long time now. What have you learned up to this point and what specifically sticks in your mind when you think of this case?
Marjorie Hernandez
Well, you know, Kayla, what really sticks in my mind is the tape seen around the world, which is, of course, the 2016 video of Cassie Ventura, who is, of course, Diddy's former girlfriend, as she was trying to flee that hotel room in la. And for those who have forgotten, the short video was released by cnn, and it showed Diddy throwing things at Cassie, and we see her being dragged away by her hair across the hotel hallway, you know, as she tried to escape. So it was very shocking footage. Of course, also including her lawsuit was pretty much the beginning of the end for Diddy and Sean Combs Bad Boy Empire as we knew it was.
Kayla Brantley
Yeah. And I think since then, it's like, that was the big, shocking visual aspect. And since then, there's been a lot of allegations, a lot of lawsuits, as we've said, like over a hundred.
Marjorie Hernandez
As you mentioned that since his criminal case, there have been at least a hundred lawsuits filed against him. And it seems like there's been alleged victims coming out every week, and it's been nonstop since we started this podcast. And we've had some attorneys who represent some of those victims on our pod, including Lisa Bloom, of course, known for representing other sexual assault victims against other infamous men, like Jeffrey Epstein, of course. You know, Diddy's team is fired back and has said he's innocent. And Diddy will prove his innocence in court. So we shall see what happens there. And, and not only Diddy, now Jay Z has and other famous folks have been pulled into this case. And of course we're talking about one of the Jane does who filed a case against Diddy and Jay Z and she claimed that she was 13 years old when she was sexually assaulted by Jay Z and Diddy while another unknown celebrity witness. But that case actually has since been dismissed with prejudice, meaning that she can't refile that case. But one of the things that came out of that that I found interesting was the fact that Jay Z is now distanced himself from Diddy altogether. Everybody knows that they've worked together for years, since the 90s. So the fact that Jay Z's attorney Spiro said look, it was a working relationship, nothing more, that was pretty shocking to me.
Kayla Brantley
Right. Everyone has known them as friends.
Marjorie Hernandez
Yeah. You see them at the parties. Every party, it was always Jay Z and Diddy together. So that was kind of shocking that you know, since all these allegations came out that pretty much that friendship is done. Of course Jay Z has denied any and all allegations that he was involved in sexually assaulting anyone with Diddy. But. But Alex Spiro have said again that Diddy and Jay Z only knew each other professionally and quote, they no longer have a close association.
Kayla Brantley
So that's the end of that.
Marjorie Hernandez
That's the end of that relationship. Seems like. But today as we're recording this Again, it's Wednesday, March 12th. There's new information that came out. ABC News just released a recording that they had obtained from Jane Doe that we've been talking about. And in that recording, the women allegedly told private invest investigators that she never actually met Jay Z and that Texas attorney Tony Busby actually put her up to suing Jay Z. We just received this statement from Tony Busby, quote, I spoke to Jane Doe immediately after being contacted by abc. Her position is very clear and has never changed. The tape is a piece together fabrication. The investigators tormented and harassed and and tricked that poor woman and took what she said out of context and secretly recorded her. She stands by her claim that Jay Z was there at the party and that he assaulted her. She has never wavered on that point, not once, end quote.
Kayla Brantley
Margie just said the superseding indictment has just been filed. There's no new victims charges, co defendants. But prosecutors did say that this superseding indictment includes new allegations related to forced labor claims. Can you explain to our listeners exactly what a superseding indictment is and what this represents?
Marjorie Hernandez
Sure. Now, like you said, Kayla, New York federal prosecutors last week filed this, actually, this is the second superseding indictment of what's interesting about this indictment is that there's actually no new charges, but it includes additional allegations related to the forced labor claims and under the racketeering count. According to this new superseding indictment which the Daily Mail obtained, Diddy allegedly forced his employee to, quote, work long hours with little sleep by using physical force, psychological harm and withholding money and threatened to harm their reputations. And also in the second superseding indictment, prosecutors alleged that, quote, with respect to one employee, Combs used physical force, psychological harm, financial harm and reputational harm and or threats of the same to cause the employee to engage in sexual acts with Combs. We also got a statement from Diddy's attorney, Mark Agnifolo, regarding the superseeing indictment and it reads, quote, Mr. Combs has said it before and will say it again. He vehemently denies the accusations made by sdny. He looks forward to his day in court when it will become clear that he has never forced anyone to engage in sexual acts against their will. Many former employees stand by his side, prepared to attest to the dedication, hard work and and inspiration they experience while helping build groundbreaking, award winning business.
Kayla Brantley
There's more coming up, but for now, let's pause for a break.
Marjorie Hernandez
Welcome back to the trial of Diddy.
Kayla Brantley
Yeah, Marjorie. And also this week, I was very shocked to hear this news, but 30 year old comedian, actor and influencer Drew Ski and 32 year old NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. They both found themselves named in a new sexual assault lawsuit against Diddy. Drew Ski and Beckham have both vehemently denied any involvement in the alleged 2018. Incidentally, the claimant, her name is Ashley Parham and she filed her initial lawsuit against Diddy last October accusing him of violently gang raping her at a house in Orinda, California back in March 2018. The filing also alleges kidnapping and sex trafficking while Diddy was also previously accused of sexually assaulting Parham with a television remote.
Marjorie Hernandez
Right now, Parham as well as two other plaintiffs, a Jane Doe and a John Doe, have updated the suit to include Beckham and Drew Ski, who have also denied, like you said, the allegations. In a statement that was posted online, Drew Ski wrote, quote, the allegation is a fabricated lie. I wasn't a public figure in 2018. I was broke, living with my mom without any connections to the entertainment industry at the time of this allegation. So the inclusion of my Name is truly outlandish. He went on to say that, my heart breaks for actual victims of abuse, but I'm fully confident that the evidence will expose its falsehood and the individuals who are maliciously trying to game the legal system to pedal false narratives.
Kayla Brantley
Yeah. And Odell Buckham Jr. Had his own reply that was a little more casual. He said, quote, boy, I'll tell you what. This world makes absolutely no sense. I am covered by God. He will prevail. I know who I am. I know who you are. Keep your head. That name will be cleared. Shit's stupid. In a further twist, Maui Police Chief John Pelletier has been accused of helping to cover up Parham's alleged gang rape. It's been alleged that Pelletier, who at the time was a Las Vegas police captain, posed as a sheriff's deputy in California. The alleged victim claims that after the alleged attack, Pelletier instructed her to go home and offered her no help or medical care. It's also been claimed that Pelletier gave an envelope to a neighbor which she believed to be full of cash.
Marjorie Hernandez
Now, the filing alleges that Pelletier later took Parham and another plaintiff at gunpoint to his home, restrained them, refused to let them call an attorney, and made various moves to cover up the kidnapping. Pelletier has strenuously denied all the allegations and released a statement that, including this rebuttal, quote, let me be clear. The allegations made against me are completely false, and I have not been formally served with any legal paperwork. The Maui Police Department also released the following statement Monday evening. Chief Pelletier has no connections whatsoever to any individuals named in the lawsuit. The allegations suggesting his involvement are entirely unfounded. We are confident that the evidence will demonstrate these claims to be false and will expose those who are deliberately trying to manipulate the legal system to spread misleading narratives. What a week. And we're recording this for, wow, 54 days until Diddy's trial starts on May 5th. And there's still no signs of slowing up.
Kayla Brantley
Nope. And we will be here. As long as there's updates, we will be here. Honestly, we thought that we were going to have to take a break until the trial because we didn't think that there was going to be anything else to talk about. But there's so many more updates, Marjorie.
Marjorie Hernandez
So many. Which for us is a great thing. And, you know, we like to keep everybody informed. So we'll keep doing that until the duration of this trial, I guess.
Kayla Brantley
And who knows how long that'll take?
Marjorie Hernandez
Who knows how long that will take. Can't wait till it does start though.
