Rob Stone
Coach, I'm curious. You're headed to Lubbock. It is tortilla town.
Kalani Sitake
It's a really cool environment, so all our guys know about it. We're looking forward to the game. You know, you know me, I'm a fullback. Tortillas fly in the air. Give me some food so I can put it in there. Let me, let me get after him.
Mark Ingram II
Coach said you gonna throw tortillas. Where the fixings at exactly?
Kalani Sitake
Don't throw me some, you know, throw me some chicken and some, some steak while you're at it.
Rob Stone
You know, put some protein on that tortilla.
Kalani Sitake
Yeah, throw me burritos and then, you know, tacos on. So I'll get after it.
Rob Stone

Mark Ingram II
He's a great BYU in the rankings though.
Rob Stone
They are. BYU is, they're in the top 10, my friend. Yeah, we're gonna talk. It was a good night for the Big 12. We'll get to that in a second. Again, new episodes Every Wednesday on YouTube, wherever you get your podcast as well. And again, as I mentioned, we're gonna be reacting Tuesday nights once these rankings drop. Please leave questions, please leave comments for us so we have a chance to answer them and react to them. So now we begin with any given Saturday and it's kind of like any given Tuesday for the next couple weeks where we're gon about the College Football playoff rankings and the bracket, of course. First up, a quick catch up on the format again. 12 teams make the playoffs. The five highest ranked conference champions get an automatic bid with the next seven highest ranked teams filling out. The field member though, there, there has to be that power, that group of five team lurking out there. New this year, though, the top four seeds, regardless of conference, guys, regardless if you're a conference champion or not, we'll get a first round buy. It's a good addition. I think everybody agrees with it. And reminder, all first round games will be hosted on the campus of the highest ranked team. All right, so let's get to the rankings right now. That just came on out, and a couple themes are there. And let's start at the top 1, 2 and 3, the unbeatens, Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A and M. It's the same way that the AP poll had it as well. Mack Rhodes, the Baylor athletic director of the College Football Playoff committee chairman, said, we had a robust discussion about the top three. Coach, I start with you since you're a Buckeye. Did they get it right with Ohio State sitting there at number one?
Urban Meyer
They did. We got to see Ohio State up close and personal twice. Actually three times this year. Offensively, they're. They're so much improved from when they were at Texas. I love Indiana. I love their staff. I love their players. And we've seen them at least once, maybe twice this year. I can't recall. Ohio State has better players at the end of the day, and that's not a disrespect to IU at all. Iu, just watching the NFL draft, Ohio State, it's going to be ridiculous again. So at the end of the day, they got it right. Does that mean Ohio State will beat Indiana? I mean, I don't know, man. IU does not make mistakes. The one that is intriguing, that is really playing good ball is A and M. So I can. I can see when I heard that whatever robust means, that must be pretty intense or I get it, because those three teams right there, Indiana has had the best win, Ohio's got the best players, and they're playing their, you know, what's off on both sides of the ball. Ridiculous defense. And then the. The quarterbacks, you know, turned into a Heisman candidate and then this damn A and M team. And I kind of came out of nowhere because I did not. I watched them early in the year. I said, yeah, they're all right, but they are playing really good ball. So they got it right. It was. It's a long way.
Rob Stone
They got the top three right, Mark. I. Yes, for a majority. I. I think if the whole top 25, if. If you look at it big picture, there's not a whole lot of moments where you're like, oh, wow, somebody really got hosed or somebody got elevated. Maybe, you know, like the One thing that jumped out to me, I put a little star on is where we're. Where we happen to be going this Saturday for big noon kickoff is Iowa up there at number 20. And they've got a great opportunity as.
Mark Ingram II
They'Re unranked in ap. Right.
Rob Stone
I'm going to go double check that right now. But I feel like they aren't. I'm looking. I'm looking. No, they are not ranked in the ap. And again, the AP right now. Thank you for your service.
Mark Ingram II
But you don't matter.
Rob Stone
But you don't matter anymore. Right now, it is all about the College Football Playoff rankings. Mark any themes, any surprises, anything that jumped out to your eyeballs, and we'll get to Bama in a second.
Mark Ingram II
It's the respect for the Big 12 here.
Rob Stone
Yeah.
Mark Ingram II
BYU sitting at seven, Texas Tech sitting at eight. That's a showdown. You have a top. You have a top eight showdown in Lubbock this weekend. Then you got Utah sitting at 13. So they have one loss, Tech has one loss. And they're up there, right there in position to be able to make a run for this playoff pitcher. We're looking at the. With these current rankings, you're looking at two Big 12 teams possibly being able to get in this thing.
Rob Stone
Bamboo, you know what I mean? So a chance for two is legit. Now. Again, only three Big 12 teams were in the top 25 rankings, but all three within the top 13. Clearly, they value Utah to a high degree, sitting there at number 13. And, you know, this is something we've been banging on the drum for a while. Like it's. If the Big 12 is really going to grow, if it's really going to try to compete with the Big tens and the SECs, it needs to get at least two into the college Football Playoff. And with the first ranking and there's a lot of ball left to be played, like a quarter of the season left. They also stone a pretty good position.
Mark Ingram II
Also Stoner you're talking about. Maybe they're the third conference over.
Rob Stone
No, no, no.
Mark Ingram II
Not maybe right now.
Rob Stone
Not maybe. Yes, because the ACC right now very much looks one and done. They do not have a team in the top 12. So you had to go down to number 14.
Mark Ingram II
Top 13. 14, 14, 14.
Rob Stone
Virginia, number 14. So Virginia is going to get one of those 12 spots right now. That's kind of like an ACC holder. Yeah, if you will. But if you look at the ACC, yes, they have five teams in the top 25, but it's 14, Virginia, 15, Louisville 17, Georgia Tech 18, Miami 24, PIT. Which can really cause that, that pit team. Watch out. They're going to. They have the ability to cause havoc over the next couple of months or the next month and change. But I think the ACC right now is one and done. Big 12 is looking at two.
Urban Meyer
Let me jump on that for a minute because I'm staring at this. And SEC has now surpassed the Big Ten again. I went with the Big Ten the last two years as of right now. I know it's still a lot of ball left, but I'm staring at this. The SEC is better than the Big Ten and here's why. You have the Wolverines, Penn State and USC are non factor right now. And that has really hit the Big Ten hard. SEC, what do you got? Six of the top 10.
Kalani Sitake
Yep.
Rob Stone
Six in the top 26 in top 12.
Urban Meyer
And any one of those cats can. I'm looking at Vandy, I'm looking at. So I'm, you know, remains to be seen but whenever you have the Wolverines, Penn State, USC, kind of, you know, messing around with. Was it 21, 19 and 1 not ranked. You know, that's, that's why the SEC is better. Let me add this too.
Mark Ingram II
Well, we know the Big Ten's been top heavy. You know, we continue to say that the SEC has more depth and that's what this is proven to show in the rankings. But we know that the Big Ten is top heavy. That's.
Urban Meyer
We've two of those top heavy cats are non existent right now. Where Penn State and Wolverines are.
Rob Stone
Michigan is there all the way down to 21.
Mark Ingram II
They're 21. They control their own destiny. They went out and somehow find a way to.
Urban Meyer
You guys sound like Fortnite.
Rob Stone
They sound like Dave Portland. I knew you were gonna go there.
Urban Meyer
All right, now I'm gonna 100.
Mark Ingram II
How many days? I don't know.
Urban Meyer
I'm gonna. 20, 26 days. Hey, so I was involved in the BCS era. Both were won it in 06 and I think it was 08. 08 was BCS too.
Mark Ingram II
09 too.
Urban Meyer
Yep, 09 was. And then you had the four team. We were involved in that. This is incredible. I, I, I didn't know if these guys, you know, had this vision of the parody and I'm looking at that this, I was worried it'd be, would be diluted. It's not diluted. You got Texas, those teams, Oregon. Those teams are good enough to win the national title. Yeah, I'm talking, I'm not, they're not good Enough team, they have good enough players. But we all know what happens. Team gets on a run with that talent. So there's this, this the vision of the 12 team playoff. I say go to 16 and keep rolling. Man, this is incredible what it's done for our sport.
Mark Ingram II
This is awesome. We love this. See, we're looking at the 12 rings right now. But right now, first out is Texas and Oklahoma because you have the ACC champ that'll get in. You have the group of five, that'll get group of six, that'll get in.
Rob Stone
So that would be Memphis right now. We're going to show the bracket in just a second.
Mark Ingram II
Yeah, yeah. So no, coach, 100%, man. This is what. Listen, just like we said, would you have 25 possible teams that have hope in a dream you to be able to accomplish the ultimate dream, which is winning a national championship.
Urban Meyer
And I just wrote down Utah, Notre Dame, Texas are teams that were dead and gone. Yes, they're right there again Y. Notre.
Rob Stone
Dame, the highest ranked two loss team out there at number 10. So we take a look at the bracket right now. Alabama sitting there. They get a buy quarter finals because they're in the top four.
Urban Meyer
Bama was dead and gone.
Mark Ingram II
Yep, they were dead to rights. And they still got some work to do. LSU coming to town. They got Oklahoma, which is ranked 12. They got Auburn. They got to go to Arbor which is always a strange place. So A M has or A and M has Texas at the end of the schedule. So a lot of this stuff is still going to play out. So I think they do that. Go ahead, go ahead.
Rob Stone
Let's do a quick exercise. All right, Mark, here we go. Memphis versus Georgia. Georgia home. We'll move on Georgia to the quarters. That's Georgia, Georgia, Bama in the quarterfinals. How about that? Oregon versus Texas Tech. That is a great game. If Oregon gets past Texas Tech, Rematch with Ohio State in the quarterfinals. Virginia versus Ole Miss. If it's Ole Miss, boom. It's A and M. Two SEC teams going at it. Notre Dame at byu.
Mark Ingram II
Wow.
Urban Meyer
Notre Dame. Byu.
Rob Stone
Notre Dame, BYU in December.
Urban Meyer
Triple option there, Cosmo.
Rob Stone
It's snow, man. Let it snow. Put a. Put a hoodie on Cosmo. Get them warmed up, man. And then the winner takes on Indiana. Oh, this is fun to look at it.
Mark Ingram II
It's fun to look at. And you know what's even funner to look at? It's going to be completely different in three weeks.
Rob Stone
No, it's going to be complete. It might be completely different next week, my friend, when we're back here live doing the triple option live for you, presented by our great partner at Wendy's. So again, let's just sum things up right now. ACC, five teams in, but the highest ranked is Virginia at 14. So they, as of now, are the only team in the College Football Playoff bracket. The Big 12 has three total teams, all of them, though inside the top 13. The Big 12, a real chance to have two into the playoff situation. The Big Ten, they have the top two teams in Ohio State and Indiana, three in the top 10, seven total SEC, the big winner, as expected, nine total teams in, six of them inside the top 12. And that is a look at the first week of your College Football playoff bracket. And by the way, good job committee. Good job committee.
Mark Ingram II
Good job.
Rob Stone
I think, I think they did an excellent job on this one. That's only week one.
Mark Ingram II
They did an excellent job with that. Robust conversation.
Rob Stone
Robust, robust conversation. All right, well, we're not done conversing right now. Can we have a robust conversation about the coaching situation, particularly in the sec? Mark, the Barners. The Barners again are looking for another head coach. Literally a quarter of the SEC head coaching jobs are open after Hugh Freeze was fired over the weekend. So LSU's open. Florida, Auburn and Arkansas. And of course, Penn State is sitting out there as well.
Mark Ingram II
How many P4 jobs is open right now?
Rob Stone
Let's see. We have 10 coaches that were fired before November. That's the most since 78. And that number could grow.
Kalani Sitake
Wow.
Rob Stone
Hugh Freeze, 15 and 19 in two plus seasons. He's going to get close to 16 million in a buyout. Some of the Hugh Freeze numbers, you know, it kind of. You understand why they decided to make that move. You know, he came in with all that, that offense and all the expectations down there and it never quite hit. Struggled in SEC play, struggled against ranked teams, and he's gone. But this isn't. This feels, though. It feels, Mark. It feels more than just a college football program or problem. It feels more than just an SEC problem. It feels like this, though, is an Auburn problem that they have now created, that they are churning through head coaches and not really sure where they're going with their future.
Mark Ingram II
Well, coach, you've been a part of successful teams. I've been a part of successful teams, both college and NFL. And the thing here is you have to be aligned. From the president to the AD to the head coach to the coaching staff to the players. It has to be a pair. It has to be a vertical, in sync type of rhythm. You know, for you to be successful. And it seems like it's kind of off. Like, you know how you play Tetris and you. It just keeps stacking up on you quick and like now you lost. You know what I mean? So it just seems like they're not in cohesion right now. And honestly, we love it. We love.
Rob Stone
Bama is you're speaking of for Bama. Bama loves it.
Mark Ingram II
I hope the dysfunction continues.
Urban Meyer
You know, I was ready to be critical. I just don't know enough about Auburn. I've had some colleagues that have coached there and obviously a spectacular place should be one of the elite jobs. And for some reason it hasn't. They had a coach with Tupperville that got the better of Alabama a lot. I want to say he won six in a row. At 1.5 in a row and at 1.6 in a row.
Mark Ingram II
Against who?
Urban Meyer
Alabama. Tommy Tupperville.
Mark Ingram II
Six in a row.
Urban Meyer
Oh, yeah. That's when Bama was really struggling. And then. And then you had Gus Malzahn that I want to say was 3 and 5 or I mean, at least, you know, that's against a Nick Saban Alabama.
Mark Ingram II
Because I don't remember all these damn Auburn wins.
Urban Meyer
Yeah. In my life it's been a little bit few and far between recent. But Tommy Tuberville, back in the day, Mark. Yeah, that was probably right before you.
Rob Stone
Tuberville, 85 wins, 40 losses from 99 to 85 and 40 a 68% winning percentage.
Mark Ingram II
That's when they had Cadillac Nim. Right? That's when they had Cadillac Nim. Right.
Urban Meyer
Rodney Brown. Yeah.
Rob Stone
And then after him, that was Gene chisik. Remember Chisik, 64% winning percentage, 33 and 19. That was from 09 to 12. Gus Malzahn, 66% winning percentage from 2013 to 2020. Brian Harson, 43% winning percentage. They only gave him 21 games. He went 9 12. And then Hugh Freeze, 15 and 19 overall. One in 12 versus ranked teams, six and 16 versus the SEC. So Auburn will have paid its last three football coaches $52 million in buyouts.
Urban Meyer
Wow.
Rob Stone
Just in buyouts. Gus Malzahn, 21, Harson, 15. Hugh Freeze, 16. That's essentially $52 million of dead money.
Mark Ingram II
Yeah. We keep talking earlier in the year, we were like, how are they going to buy? How are they going to afford these bios? These schools is not finna stand by and tolerate losing in bad seasons. They are gonna find that money. They gonna find it, man. And you got these programs who have rich histories and have high expectations they not standing around for it man. And Auburn is just the latest one.
Rob Stone

We are back with the triple option presented by Wendy's Rob Stone. Deuce deuce. Mark Ingram, the second. Urban Meyer here with you. So the first college football playoff rankings of the season are in the books. It's time now for aggressive bark the deuce Deuce dog of the week, Mark Arch Manning.
Mark Ingram II
The man who everyone wanted to down, they wanted to hate on the player. But you can't hate the player. You gotta hate the game. And Arch Manning went 25, 33, 328 yards and three tutties against the number nine team in the country. The man is balling. He hit 10 different receivers, including a 75 yard touchdown to Ryan Wingo. Arch man is getting better and better in Texas, is quietly holding it down, making some noise, trying to get back into the playoff picture. Arch Manning for the the deuce deuce dog of the week. Keep balling, man. Who cares what they say, man, Tell them to hate the player. Don't hate the player. Hate the game.
Rob Stone
Happy for that kid, right? Like all the scrutiny he's been under before the season even started, the issues that he's had and the interceptions and the injuries and then to overcome it and, and do it in A really classy way. Do it in a very Manning type way. Right. He's never lashed out. He hasn't spoken up like some quarterbacks speaking.
Mark Ingram II
Hey, which hey, hey, hey Rob.
Urban Meyer
Huh.
Mark Ingram II
Keep your head down and keep grinding. I love it. That's what Archman has done and that's why he's the Deuce Deuce Aurora. You can't be a cat, you can't be soft and be the dog of the week. You really got to be a dog to be the dog of the week.
Urban Meyer
There's, there's no other position in all of sport than that of a quarterback that needs playing time. There's no other, there's no other position. That's why when I started hearing all that he's going to be a first rounder. Let, let him go play for a while.
Rob Stone
Play.
Urban Meyer
And that's exactly what's happening. He's got the skill set now. He's getting experience. He's got a really good quarterback coach with Sark. So it's, it's great to see him coming on.
Rob Stone
And that was your first take of the week presented by Wendy's. Wake up with Wendy's breakfast. So. So we're praising Arch, right For as you said, right. Head down grind, get it going. He's not lighting up anybody. He's not giving us these memorable quotes. But you know who is your boy? The multi millionaire down there in South Beach.
Urban Meyer
Oh gosh.
Mark Ingram II
Big money back, big baller back.
Urban Meyer
How much money Mark? Talk to me about cash.
Mark Ingram II
I said it.
Rob Stone
They person back. We're talking.
Mark Ingram II
They said it was anywhere between the neighborhood of 4 to 6 million to go to Miami. And then they said in the last 12 months he's accumulated close to 10 million worth of deals.
Urban Meyer
10 mil.
Mark Ingram II
That's what they said. That's not what Mark said. That's not what Urban said. That's not what Stone said. That's what they said.
Rob Stone
They said. They said. All right, so we're going to talk about Carson Beck as Miami member picked up their second loss of the season this past weekend they did that in Dallas. SMU getting the win. Prior to that they fell to Louisville. Both of those games guys, they were double digit favorites and Beck struggled. He threw a total of six interceptions. Two versus smu, four versus Louisville. So after Gracious, that's a lot of interceptions. Again it's not always on the quarterback as we know but after the Louisville he. Yes, right. He took some heat for putting the blame on one of the interceptions on a receiver running the wrong route. Listen this happens. Correct. This is part of football. Maybe you don't have to say it, but we all understand this is part of football.
Mark Ingram II
Know that. Football people know that. They know sometimes the receiver runs the wrong route, sometimes the ball might get tipped, sometimes the ball might get dropped. But as a quarterback, I've been around some great quarterbacks, some hall of Fame quarterbacks. They all never pointed the finger. They take ownership, they take accountability, and that's how you get the respect of your teammates.
Urban Meyer
Well said, Mark.
Rob Stone
That was a couple of weeks ago this week. He was asked if his defense, or. I'm sorry, he was asked if the SMU defense did anything to take away downfield options. And here was his response.
Urban Meyer
No, I mean, they stay. They ran the same thing the whole time. I just execute the play that's called. And if I'm given the opportunity to, you know, if I see something and change something, then I will. But again, I just execute the play that's called. And we weren't able to execute, you know, at a high level at the end to be able to close it out.
Rob Stone
All right, so I execute the play that was called. Does. Does that poke you guys in the. In the wrong spot at all, or are you all right with it?
Urban Meyer
Yeah, I'm okay with it. This guy, first of all, Mark, you look on, that guy's crushed right now.
Rob Stone
Yes.
Urban Meyer
And he's got a microphone in his face 12 minutes after the game or whatever it is. And that's why I used to always try to let our players and coaches and me take a deep breath before you go stand in front of a microphone, because things happen.
Rob Stone
That.
Urban Meyer
That's not as bad as I thought. And I mean, here's a guy, though. Here, here's reality, Mark. You start throwing around a double digit million dollars, whatever, 10 million, or there's 21, 21 interceptions in his last 21 games. And that's going back to when he was at the University of Georgia and.
Rob Stone
Caught a lot of those interceptions in big games.
Kalani Sitake
Right.
Rob Stone
In games where he needed to be clean.
Urban Meyer
And I went back and watched because I just really enjoy watching the quarterbacks. And I kept hearing about draft status and all that. And he does have a really, really great skill set. But you can't. You know, that's like a tailback to fumbles, man. That's just. Those are. Those are ender. Those are canceled. You know, when those kind of things happen, you just. Now you got to break down why it's happening. And I'm going to point this out and then Hand it off to Mark. Remember, 50% of every interception is on the quarterback, 30% on the receiver, 20% on tip balls, offensive line, tailback, etc. So over it's half the times it's his, but you just got to take it and you got to really take care of the ball, man.
Mark Ingram II
Yeah, turnovers will cause you to lose football games. That's the number one thing when you're in a team meeting, when you're in a position meeting is take care of the football. And unfortunately, in big games, in losses, Carson Beck has thrown several interceptions. He has nine interceptions this year and six of them have came in losses. Right? Is that right, Stoner?
Kalani Sitake
Six of them?
Mark Ingram II
Something like that, yeah.
Rob Stone
Well, those Louisville and smu, those six.
Mark Ingram II
Interceptions, yeah, they're not always your fault, but they go into your stats and right now, nine interceptions, $10 million, boy. Getting about a million and some change.
Rob Stone
Per I. Stoner, Miami's paying a lot for those interceptions is what you're saying.
Urban Meyer
Yeah.
Mark Ingram II
And these nil people.
Urban Meyer
Yeah, yeah, they're 10 mil. So you have to, you have to just, just to clarify this for people listening, Mark, how long in the NFL do you have to play before you get a 10 million a year contract?
Mark Ingram II
Listen, Coach, that's at least a second. Hey, Coach, I played 12 years, I never had a $10 million.
Urban Meyer
Think about that. Rob, think about what he just said. He's a leading rusher in New Orleans Saints history.
Rob Stone
As soon as you brought that, as soon as you brought that up, Coach, my, my gut react. You saw it. I just turned my head and looked up. I was like, oh, this isn't going to go well, man. This is.
Mark Ingram II
I never once got paid $10 million in one year in 12 years.
Rob Stone
And you know what? It's led to that.
Mark Ingram II
I'm happy for them, I'm happy for the kids.
Rob Stone
Agreed, agreed, agreed.
Mark Ingram II
But the kids.
Rob Stone
It's no interview questions from NFL GM scouts and head coaches ahead of the draft, right? Coach, you've dealt with this like, how is this kid handling money? How is this kid handling prosperity? Because you used to have to fight for it, right, in college to get it at the NFL. Do you, do you lose that dog? Mark, to your point, and not everybody loses that dog, but I mean, that's generational, life changing money as well that we're talking about. That is real wealth. Coach, I know a couple weeks ago you were in our nation's capital in D.C. and, and some people out there decided to do some, some funny math. They said coach met with a Pennsylvania senator. So one plus one equals. You're the next head coach of the Nittany Lions. I didn't quite do the math that way, but there's people out there, I think, who have done that. Coach.
Urban Meyer
Yeah. Yeah, some. Well, who is the guy again? I. My farts. My phone started blowing up. What's that?
Rob Stone
Gilba, I believe was his name.
Urban Meyer
Yeah.
Rob Stone
Some credit right now, apparently.
Urban Meyer
Yeah, and I give him credit. And he has two sources that said that I met with the senator that became. We became friends. Rob, you were there with Dave McCormick when we covered a Penn State game, and I stayed in touch with him, and we had breakfast in the Capitol and we talked. We talked politics, Mark. And then. And then there's another one. He said. The source says that I had conversations with Penn State about the nil and I didn't know how to handle the nil or so. So come on. First of all, that never happened. Figure it out.
Rob Stone
How do you not handle nil?
Urban Meyer
How. How do we get the two sources on our show here? Oh, can we invite the two call.
Mark Ingram II
Into the triple option sources?
Rob Stone
Good one. Yeah, put it in the comment section.
Urban Meyer
It just cracks me up when people sit at a. Whatever you.
Mark Ingram II
You have no idea.
Urban Meyer
Make a story, man.
Mark Ingram II
The last two weeks, people like, is coach coming back to coach? I'm like, right, Mark?
Rob Stone
No, Coach, I don't know if you know that. Like, Mark and I get this all the time. All the time. We have to answer for you because that's what happens when you're a Hall of Fame head coach. That's even your boy.
Urban Meyer
Just list your sources.
Mark Ingram II
Even your boy, Coach. My dad, Mark. 1. He hits me up like, you see this?
Rob Stone
I'm like, does he want to come to East Lansing?
Mark Ingram II
I'm like, coach is on the tee box, man. Like, don't send this stuff to my phone, bro. Don't send this stuff to my phone.
Rob Stone
All good coaches on the tee box. Once again, chicken, steak or fish? I'll take that life all day. Coming up next on the triple option presented by Wendy's, we are joined by the head coach of the undefeated BYU Cougars. It's a great conversation with Kelani Satake. Support for the triple option comes from Google. Being a college football fan these days means you're part analyst, part gm, and. And part rules expert. The game is just so much more complex than it used to be. Coach.
Urban Meyer
One minute you're trying to decode the X's and O's, the next you're debating the transfer portal. This is what college football fandom is all about and AI Mode in Google Search is perfect for it. It's built to handle all those nuanced, complicated questions that go way beyond a simple stat.
Mark Ingram II
You can ask it to do a deep dive on strategy like break down how the spread offense compares to the pro style offense based on philosophy and pace. Or then you could pivot to more off the field elements and ask what are the main reasons why there are more college football player transfers in recent years. You can even get real time analysis like asking how have this year's college football rule changes impacted the season so far.
Rob Stone
AI Mode pulls all that info together for you. So whether you're wondering about a complex scheme, a new rule, or why your favorite team's roster looks so different every year, you can just ask Google. It's okay not to be perfect with finances. Experian is your big financial friend and here to help. Did you know you can get matched with credit cards on the app? Some cards are labeled no ding decline which means if you're not approved they won't hurt your credit scores. Download the Experian app for free today. Applying for no Ding decline cards won't hurt your credit scores.
Urban Meyer
If you aren't initially approved, initial approval.
Rob Stone
Will result in a hard inquiry which may impact your credit scores experience. Welcome back to the Triple option presented by Wendy's Rob Mark Urban. We are now joined by the head coach of the undefeated put some respect by that BYU Cougars. My goodness. Kalani Sataki, thanks so much for joining us. Huge game, game of the week in my eyes down in Lubbock this week for you guys. Texas Tech taking on byu. You guys enter this one off of a bye week as well. What's have been the preparation points for Texas Tech on Saturday?
Kalani Sitake
Well, I mean you've got an extra week to work on them and then actually you know, looking at the game that they played against Kansas State, it's always good to get extra time prep time but you know, looking forward to the game and the matchup and this is kind of what November is all built for.
Urban Meyer
You know Coach, so good to be with you again. You're one of my favorite guys. We've covered you a bunch and I think it's good to introduce you to the the country and maybe places that don't really understand Utah, BYU and the great football that's out there. So you talk about the fit. Think about this for a minute. So you coached at Utah and obviously now you're big and beyond. You have to be lds to be the coach that's, that's Mormon. To be byu, you have to understand, which I had to learn about the players that go on missions when they're turned 19 years old, a big part of the LDS community, they go on a mission for two years and they come back. You have to understand the school and then also the code of conduct, which is, you know, that that's a very unique to that school. But you talk about a perfect fit. Kalani sataki@ BYU, tell us what makes you a perfect fit.
Kalani Sitake
I don't know if I'm a perfect fit other than I played here. I grew up cheering for byu. I got to play for a legend named Lavelle Edwards, who I try to pattern what he did for me when I was a student athlete here and try to do that for these players because I think it does work. And, and even though you have to adapt it to the, the now nowadays, you know, I think the, the old school principles do carry forward. And then I've had a lot of help along the way. So, you know, Urban, you've been really huge from, for my, for my progress as a coach. I mean, when I was at Utah, you, you were able to give me the opportunity to speak to you when I first got hired on at Utah, when you guys were prepping for the Fiesta bowl. And then, you know, when, when I, whenever I would come and do some professional development with you guys when you're in Florida and at Ohio State. So a lot of that is development and learning. And so I learned quite a bit from amazing coaches like Lavelle Edwards, Kyle Whittingham and Urban Meyer. So all I had to do was pay attention and listen and apply it to what we can do here. In my time as a former player and a return missionary, I mean, I'm the first head coach to serve the mission in that time. And so I understand what these young men are going through. And you think about it, Mark and Irvin, you think about when you're playing the prime part of your life, you leave and you pay for your own way. You pay your own way to go serve for two years the people all around the world and you get called to places that maybe majority of them have to learn another language, but you're definitely on your own and in the prime part of your life where you don't, you don't date, you don't do anything with, with, with entertainment and movies and things like that. You're just focused on serving the Lord and serving your fellow man. And then you come back from that and you play football here at this school and you play football. There's a lot of return missionaries that play in college football. And you can imagine mentally what type of person that the young man would be and the type of teammate he would be. And so, you know, physically they're not ready, but we get them ready. But mentally, the culture is built on people that are willing to sacrifice and will need to help. And I'm just a product of that. I'm a guy that is at this position that had a lot of people that helped out, helped me out as a coach and as a player. And I'm just trying to, you know, carry it forward.
Urban Meyer
Let's talk about that real quick. I want to stay on that subject. It's such. It's so interesting and it can be an advantage and it also can be a disadvantage that the mission. So when I said, when I first was hired to Utah, Kyle really helped me through that whole, that whole dilemma, not really dilemma, but so 19 years old, they leave and what percentage of guys or how many on your team used to be? High percentage. I'm not sure it's still as high as it used to be. Certainly not at Utah. And then the reality that when they come back a lot of times with what they're doing for those two years, like you said, serving your school, serving your religion, serving the Lord, and then they come back, they're really grown men. I mean, that, that is a mature. So first of all, how many. And then do you consider that a bonus that BYU has?
Kalani Sitake
Yeah, of course. I mean, normally we're around 60%. You know, players have certain missions, but the interesting thing is that they, they join a team of fully young men that are willing to help and serve. I mean, we do a lot of service projects on our team. The, the goal is to be a part of something bigger than yourself and trying to get these young men to think of others, especially when you're in a time with Nil and Rev share and all those things, trying to get them to, to think of others and think of even their family members. That's what I try to do as a head coach. That a lot of, a lot of hard work went for them to be where they're at right now, but a lot of people sacrifice for them to be there, you know, and, and so you, you build that around people that are willing to serve and willing to help and really forget about themselves. And then. And Irvin, you know that that makes a great teammate. And Mark, you know, you've been around great teams yourself. And so, you know, then these guys have been able to do that, but also, you know, just being able to, to rely on, on following a savior and being a disciple of Christ. That's the, that's the toughest man that ever walked this earth.
Mark Ingram II
Right.
Kalani Sitake
So there's a lot of different ways to do things. I think it carries over and people can follow Christ and then, and follow his teachings. It works in, in business, it works in family life, works in football. So yes, we're just trying to make it work and then trying to, I mean, look what it did for Ohio State last year and things that they've been able to accomplish, you know, so there's a lot of things that we're trying to move forward with and it can't just only be about football.
Mark Ingram II
Yeah, well, coach, man, we appreciate, you know, I'm a big fan, man. I love your demeanor, I love your humbleness. I love your, your killer attitude when you get on the, on the field. But man, everyone's chasing these five star recruits and I could admire that because I was a three star recruit. I didn't get my four star until I got an Alabama offer. But am I wrong that there's no five stars on your roster?
Kalani Sitake
I don't think, I don't, I don't think so. I mean, looking at, you know, I'm looking for five star character, you know.
Mark Ingram II
Yeah.
Kalani Sitake
Five star work ethic. That's, that's, those are things that I'm looking forward and that, that's, I mean, what you've been accomplishing in your career, that's where you, you did it because you had it in here and you had it up here. And so I mean, that's a, that's the stuff that I think, you know, I'm actually just, I'm attracted to young men that, that want to be mama's boys, you know what I mean? And young men that, that want to be obedient to their parents because I think if they do that then, then they'll definitely listen to me.
Mark Ingram II
For sure.
Kalani Sitake
For sure. Wow.
Rob Stone
Is Bear Bachmeyer a mama's boy?
Kalani Sitake
Oh, yeah, yeah, he's a mama's boy and, and a daddy's son. And then he's also got, you know, he's, he's got big brothers that take care of him too. So I mean I, I saw a stat about, you know, last, last freshman lead, there's a few freshmen leave leaders team to 6, 0 record or something like that was Hank Bachmeyer. So it helps when you really, bro. It Happens like, yeah, big bro that's done it before. So that, that's pretty cool. And, you know, and seeing Hank around here, I mean, we had to, we had to play against him when I, when I first got head job. And, and he, he, he was so tough mentally and physically, that it just makes sense that the brothers would be the same way. So it's, it's really cool that we have Tiger on our team and then that we have Bear being able to, you know, be behind the center. I mean, that's, it's, it's. He's been an amazing young man and just humble, and we just got to keep him that way.
Rob Stone
Did you expect this level of, of competitiveness and success from him when you guys had to be forced into this quarterback change in the middle of the off season?
Kalani Sitake
Well, you know, and that's an interesting part, is that he wasn't able to be here for spring ball. He was at Stanford. And so the fact that we had him kind of in the summer, we knew that there was something about him because we recruited him before and we knew that, that he had the ability. But we wanted to see how these quarterbacks competed. And once we opened up the competition, they all started to thrive and become better. It. It elevated the whole room, which was really cool. And when you can have a competition take place where everybody gets better, but they're also working together to help each other, that's something super special. And so that speaks to the room. It speaks to Aaron Roderick as our offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and Matt Mitchell. And so those guys have bought into the culture of being about the team. And then it just so happens that's I only know one way Urban. You know, that is like, I play the best, and if I can play the best, I can always walk through the locker room and with my head up high and I can look people in the eyes. And that's the standard that we have. So if you're the best, you get out there and you play and you earn that, you earn your time on the field.
Urban Meyer
Coach, let's talk about the big picture here on the. In the country that. Just relating it. Back when I was at Utah, we would talk and I just use it as motivation where people would, you know, overlook the Mount west conference. And obviously the Big 12 is, you know, one of the top four conferences in America. But do you use it as motivation? The fcc, the Big Ten, all that conversation, or are you just trying to stay in house? And, and that's the first part of the question. Second Part of the question, have you had a chance to look around this country and what's your thoughts on the Big 12 relative to SEC slash Big 10?
Kalani Sitake
Well, the first question is, I'm not. I mean, we have to be open to discussing whatever is out there. But when they. When first started in January, on building what we want to accomplish this year, you know, there was a huge sense for me to talk to the team about confidence versus arrogance. And the confidence that you can get is all from eternal. It's all from people that are in this building to see what we're able to do. It's from the guys that. That. That grind and work hard during the off season, from January all the way to fall camp. And so we discussed, being confident means that you have to work hard and that you have to work hard as you possibly can, and then you have to see the improvement that you've made from January to August. Then you have to build on that. And so in order to avoid arrogance, arrogance happens from external factors. And so really, that's the praise and the criticism. They all mean the same. If. If we can just avoid listening to the outside noise. I think, you know, coaches have used it for us because mentioned rat poison, things like that. I think it goes both ways, man. It's like the criticism and the praise are both dangerous. How are they supposed to criticize us or praise us when they haven't really been in the building? They haven't been in the. In the stadium when it's empty, running those stairs? They haven't worked through all the pain and the. And the grind and the grit of it all, you know, so our guys are able to do that together and we bought into this. Let's build confidence rather than worry about the external factors. And then even right now, when we're in this position where people are campaigning and trying to. Trying to work their way in and talk their way in, man, we're just going to keep quiet, stay humble and just go to work and see what happens. But I'm really pleased with the way the guys have been responding to what we ask them to do. We just got to keep it rolling, man. And all I care about is us performing at our best this weekend, and then we can live with the results. If we can do that.
Mark Ingram II
Yeah. Coach, we talked about your quarterback, Barry Bachmeier, but you guys have explosive offense. L.J. martin, Chase Roberts, Parker Kingston. The defense is tough, but you said your quarterback has this fullback mentality. And if people who don't know fullback mentality means you a Dog means you a tone setter. How does Bear make this offense go? How is, how is his ability to have that fullback mentality going to help you guys in Lubbock on Saturday?
Kalani Sitake
Well, you know, I mean, I look like an old lineman right now, but I used to be a fullback back in the day, you know what I mean? And, and all the fullback is, is an old lineman in the backfield. It just means that I'm only a six footer and I, and I, you know, I, I had good hands to catch the ball. Other than that, I would have been an old lineman. So when you have that mentality, it means that you're not afraid to run inside, you're not afraid to do whatever it takes to help the team, not afraid to, to make sure that the, the spotlight goes to somebody else, you know, and so I played in 50 football games here at BYU in my career. I scored one touchdown. It's the most glorious touchdown you ever see. But I blocked for a lot of guys. I mean, I blocked every. Everybody that was in the backfield. The tailbacks have all rushed for over a thousand yards. That's, that's a huge badge of honor for me. So. Yes, sir. When, when Bear has that mentality of just do whatever it takes to help the team and you have that at a quarterback position, you're willing to do whatever it takes physically, mentally and just spiritually just buy into what everybody's doing. I mean, he's just having fun out there. You know, nobody tell him that he's only a true freshman, but I think a lot of it is just, he's just, he's, he's approaching it like, man, I just want to be part of this team and help out however I can. We've been able to see him progress throughout the year from the beginning to now. And I see him, there's no ceiling right now. I see him achieving a lot of different things, but all we're asking him to do is do his 1/11 and do his part, and he doesn't have to do it alone. That's the really cool thing about it, is that he understands he doesn't have to do it by himself. He has a great old line that he can lean on and receivers and skill all around him at running back and tight end. So. And he's all. He's a complete team player. I mean, his older brother is one of the receivers. And so there's a lot of things that he, that he does is super mature and doesn't look very young at all.
Urban Meyer
That's awesome, coach.
Rob Stone
I hear you talk about that one touchdown. I saw that little gleam in your eye right there. Tell me about that one touchdown. What went into it, where was it and everything else.
Kalani Sitake
It wasn't anything special. I think I was supposed to be a max pro and nobody was open, you know, and so I, I chipped the end and I think I just released and the quarterback. It wasn't a check down, it was like a double check down. It's like, man, do I really want to throw to this guy? And then he had no other choice than to throw so he threw it to me and I turned and there was nobody there except for a cornerback sitting in the end zone. I was going to get in no matter what, you know, and so I mean that's, Other than that, I was happy. Listen, I, I had a saying that if you needed one yard, two yards, give it to me. If you needed three or more, give it to the guy behind me. I don't mind, I don't mind being a check down route runner. I mean I, running a wheel route and a go route that, that's taxing when you're on your over 250, you know what I mean? So I was okay with just running the flat routes and, and doing a little bit of chip blocking, doing the lazy swing after that.
Rob Stone
Oh, hey, hey, Coach. I'm curious. You're headed to Lubbock. It is Tortilla Town and, and we want to make light of it. You want to have some fun with it, but obviously there, there's some new rules in play. I'm curious, where do you stand, particularly as an opposing coach on, on that great tradition of, of throwing the tortillas out at the opening kickoff down in Lubbock?
Kalani Sitake
I mean, I'm always about embracing college football together. And so that's even the environment where you go on the road and you get to see these awesome venues and you get to see fans that, that love their team so much. So I want, I, I'm asking our guys to embrace the whole thing. We've done that every, every time we go on the road to have fun in that environment. And then, you know, so I don't have anything personally against what they do. I just for me it's sad because I want to see that, I want to see everything, you know, and I want to see the whole, I mean, when you're at byu, there's a guy named Mike Leach that, that, that coached out Texas Tech. We all followed him. So we, because he was a BYU Guy, you know, and. And I mean, I. I love him so much. He was a great friend of mine, you know, and then I. I had his son, Cody Bubba over here with us, working for me on our staff for a few years before he went back to work with his dad at Mississippi State. So we always followed Texas Tech and always cheered for him. We had a lot. I had a lot. A lot of former teammates that played for him. And so we always saw those games, and it's a really cool environment. So all our guys know about it. We're looking forward to the game, you know. You know me, I'm a fullback. Tortillas fly in the air. Give me some food so I can.
Mark Ingram II
Put it in there.
Kalani Sitake
Let me. Let me get after it. But, you know, I'm just looking forward to the fans and the. The overall environment. It's going to be a lot of fun, and I think our guys should just be honored that they could be in this position.
Mark Ingram II
Coach said you're gonna throw tortillas with a fixings at.
Kalani Sitake
Exactly. Don't throw me some, you know, throw me some chicken and some. Some steak while you're at it.
Rob Stone
You know, Put some protein on that tortilla.
Kalani Sitake
Yeah. Throw me burritos and then, you know, tacos on. So I'll get after it.
Urban Meyer
Hey, we know you gotta run. I want to tell you personally, man, you're. Every time I. We're with you as Big Noon or this, you're refreshing your approach, your success. I'm a huge fan of yours, brother. The. There needs to be more coaches like you in this world. So thanks so much for your time, man. We're a fan of you and fan of byu, fan of you.
Mark Ingram II
Fan of byu, fan of Cosmo. Y' all got it going on out there.
Urban Meyer
How about Cosmo?
Kalani Sitake
You gotta go watch how you guys get. Jump in the. Jump in the pool with him, you know, Be careful.
Rob Stone
No, no, no, no. Not everybody jumped in the pool.
Kalani Sitake
I saw you got thrown in, Rob. But that's the. I was about to say be careful who you hang out with. You know, if you. You hang out with Cosmo, you're going to jumping out of airplanes and things like that and zip lining everywhere. That's. That's why I keep him at a distance. I love Cosmo. Go. Go entertain everybody. But, man, I. I can't be doing all that stuff, especially with you guys. How many suits you guys are ruining jumping into that stuff? You guys look too fly for all that.
Mark Ingram II
We'll take care of the wardrobe, coach. We'll get you in there next time.
Kalani Sitake
Appreciate you guys.
Rob Stone
Cosmo. Cosmo's playing checkers.
Mark Ingram II
Thank you.
Rob Stone
Coach Sataki's playing chess. Coach, thanks so much for joining us. Enjoy your trip down to Lubbock this weekend.
Kalani Sitake
Aloha. Thank you, guys.
Mark Ingram II
God bless you, coach.
Rob Stone
Welcome back to the triple option presented by Wendy's Urban. Mark, Rob, back here with you. It's time now for three and out, brought to you by Google. Let's take a look at what fans are searching for this week. And remember, no matter what question comes next, you can just ask Google. Listen, we've seen some big percentage jumps right in searches using the Google function. How about this week a 5000% increase in search is asking what are the best college football uniforms. So we're going to rank our top three. Mark, you get first dibs, my friend.
Mark Ingram II
Oh, man. This is just a fun subject, but.
Rob Stone
I mean, so many options, right?
Mark Ingram II
All right, let's start backwards. I'm going to go with.
Urban Meyer
You got to go clean or wild. Mark, what are you going.
Rob Stone
Yeah, yeah, you're either one of those.
Mark Ingram II
So you can never go wrong with the classic look. Like, I love the Alabama all whites with the crimson tie helmet. I love a white out Penn State all white uniforms with the white helmet with the white stripe down it with the. That's just classic and it's clean and it's fresh. So I'm gonna go Penn State with the all whites and a white out. That thing is just, it's just immaculate. It's a beautiful sight to see. Then I gotta go the money green from the Notre Dames when they go green on green with the gold helmet. Ooh, that, that, that green is clean and, and we, hey, the green mean money. So the greens with the gold helmet, that thing sharp. I ain't gonna lie. Notre, Dame, I might have did something in them things, you know what I mean? But no, and then you got to go with the trendsetters themselves, the Oregon Ducks. I mean, you could go black on black. They got like the little, the little war little things on the shoulder pads with the black helmet. Then they go black helmet highlighter green with black. Then they go metallic helmet with the white with the green and the black. They just flip it. They got combos, 14, 15 different combos.
Rob Stone
It's insane. The amount they had a Grateful Dead uniform a couple weeks ago.
Mark Ingram II
That's what you call flavors. And they got flavors at Oregon. And if you want to have the flavors, you go to Oregon. I ain't going to lie.
Rob Stone
Oregon really like that, man, they are good. Every week, right? Every week it's something new. And they all look, they all look pretty darn good. All right, Coach, your top three uniforms in college football.
Urban Meyer
Yeah. People would think I really don't care, but I actually did like that subject. I let our players pick. But a real quick story. When I was at Ohio State, early in my career, Gene Smith and I had a meeting with Nike. They came to Ohio State's campus in the spring and they sat and they started showing these alternate uniforms and they put this all black up there. And I remember I kind of looked up and I looked over at Gene and he kind of, we, you know, kind of stared at each other for a second. And afterwards he said, what do you think? And I said, we got to do it. And he says, you know, the, the fan. The alumni will kill us for this.
Rob Stone
Why would the alumni be mad? Just because you got the old scarlet and gray?
Kalani Sitake
Yeah.
Urban Meyer
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I said, and I even came out in a paper and you had to laugh. I said, you know, I love tradition, but there's one thing, Mark, I like better than tradition. It's called recruiting. And the players love the all black, so all black Ohio State number one.
Rob Stone
Hey, by the way, coach, the alums love it too, because they are out there buying that new merch. Oh, you know, right. Maybe the old, old alums.
Urban Meyer
Sometimes the old ones get loud.
Mark Ingram II
I'm gonna have a black flavor.
Urban Meyer
Like Gene said, he got killed. I mean, he said he got. Oh, yeah. I mean, there's five people. That's, you know, so there's. You get killed for five people. Second one is Gator blue. You know, the Gators. And I know I'm a homer here, but when we would roll out that old blue with the orange helmet and then finally I'm going to go clean the Texas white. Yeah, I love the all white Texas. Those fast athletes, good looking players wearing the all white.
Rob Stone
It's interesting, you guys like the all white, the clean look. I'm, I'm like dark mode guy for some reason. Tennessee, last Saturday they went dark mode. All black for a black angle lie.
Mark Ingram II
That was harsh on right when they had the power to open up and they came through. Like that was hard.
Rob Stone
Yeah, I take all that.
Mark Ingram II
I hate, I hate everything Tennessee, but I got to respect what respect is doing.
Urban Meyer
Would you say it's hard?
Mark Ingram II
Yeah, that was hard. Hard body.
Rob Stone
It looks good. The dark stuff, it.
Mark Ingram II
I hate everything Tennessee, but understood.
Rob Stone
And then I, I appreciate, I appreciate blue. I appreciate creativity and I Appreciate a nod to the past. So when the University of Houston came out with their Houston Oiler throwback unis.
Mark Ingram II
Oh, wow.
Urban Meyer
I didn't see that.
Rob Stone
I was like, yes, please. Like, because all I could see was like, Earl Campbell, Dan Passerone, like, running. I just saw Billy White Shoes.
Kalani Sitake
Billy.
Rob Stone
Billy Joe White Shoes Washington, right? Was that what's named Billy White?
Urban Meyer
Billy White Shoes Johnson.
Mark Ingram II
Billy White Shoes somewhere. Look at the white shoes. Look at the white shoes.
Rob Stone
It looks so clean, by the way, when. When Ole Miss rolls out with those light blue kind of teal uniforms too.
Kalani Sitake
Those are.
Mark Ingram II
Those are heat too.
Rob Stone
I give. I give a nod and then Mark. What do I like to do with these three and outs?
Mark Ingram II
You like to go listen to whatever we say, then choose the opposite.
Rob Stone
I like to go a little rogue. I go a little.
Mark Ingram II
You like to go soccer. You like to go.
Rob Stone
I can. I can go. I can go wrestling. I can go basketball. But I'm going. I'm staying with football, but I'm going high school football. And I'm taking you guys to Shreveport, Louisiana. Loyola College Prep. The nickname is the Flyers. So where did they stick on their helmet? Your kids will love this one. Your grandkids will love that one. Snoopy as a World War I flyer hunting the Red Baron. So remember when he's. Snoopy's got like the goggles and he's got the scarf floating in the wind and he's sitting on his. Sitting on his doghouse trying to. Trying to gun things down. They got that on their side of their helmet and right at midfield. And it looks pretty cool, pretty unique, pretty different. Maybe not like awe inspiring like the. The dark mode at Tennessee, but man, it's. It's pretty cool. And we've left so many on the table. So if there's some great uniforms that we missed, throw it in the comments. We'll take a look. We'll see if we agree or there's.
Mark Ingram II
Some that we missed. There's some that we missed for sure.
Rob Stone
It's impossible that we wouldn't miss some, right? We wouldn't be doing our job if we missed a couple. But what are you gonna do? That's. It's our choice. It's our show. We get to pick the three that we want. Time now for Two Minute Drill brought to you by FanDuel. Visit FanDuel.com triple option to download the app and take advantage of a fan 50% profit boost today. So earlier we talked with BYU head coach Kalani Satake ahead of that huge showdown in Lubbock at Texas Tech. Red Raiders guys favored by 10 and a half. Seems big. Seems big over under 53 in a half. Let's start with BYU seeking their first road win over a top 20 opponent since 2018. But remember they're 9 and 1 on the road since 2024, so getting away from Provo doesn't phase them. Old number 47. Coach, you love number 47. Our guy, Bear Bachmeyer coach talked about a little bit. First true freshman quarterback guys to start eight. No sense.
Urban Meyer
Who another Bachmeyer?
Rob Stone
No, he coach had it wrong. Well remember true freshman.
Mark Ingram II
Oh, true freshman.
Rob Stone
True freshman Trevor Lawrence, 2018 at Clemson. So Bachmire, 20 total touchdowns, just three picks, just three interceptions. Leads Big 12 QBs with nine rushing touchdowns. So he's already had six games with at least one passing and one rushing touchdown. So you coach, I know you've loved dual threat quarterbacks. Bachmire, is that the defense? Allowing just 17 points a game, they've held all eight opponents under 28 points. Last Saturday in the WIT at Iowa State or I'm sorry their last game at Iowa State. Four takeaways, four sacks. They had a bye week, kind of get healthy, rest up for this huge one. And Texas Tech, now remember they had that trap game last week, guys in Manhattan. Kansas State was kind of starting to figure things out, but they went to Manhattan, took care of business, winning by 23. Tech. They've got the best point differential in the Big 12. They are outscoring opponents by 273 points, second best in FBS. Somebody's outscoring teams more than 273. They've got the number one scoring and the number one scoring. I'm sorry, the number one scoring offense and defense in the conference. Top five scoring offense and defense in FBS. Only one other program is doing that, Indiana 7. And oh though when Baron Morton starts the season, remember his health has been a big factor this season. And they lost their backup as well. So they need to keep Morton upright. They need to protect him as well. You know the best thing to do, Mark, to protect your quarterback?
Mark Ingram II
Run the ball.
Rob Stone
Run the damn ball. They've got a two headed attack, right Dickey averaging 98 scrimmage yards, Big 12 best 11 touchdowns. Jacoby Williams, 91 scrimmage yards, eight touchdowns this season. Last week at Kansas State, 135 on the ground and a touchdown. I think this is going to be the first of two meetings this season between the two. Both seem to be on a. On a collision course for a rematch of the Big 12 championship game. And I say round one goes to the home team Texas Tech. Red Raiders are going to win it by seven. But they don't. They don't cover coach. We are off to Iowa City for big noon kickoff this week. Oregon at Iowa ducks favored by six and a half over under 52 and a half. Remember the Ducks just one loss this season. 10 point home defeat to Indiana last month.
Urban Meyer
I'm worried about this one for Oregon. I think I was a tough place to play. I know we got it one time bad there. It was a night game. So this is a 3:30 I believe game. It's six and a half points. I went and watched for the big noon show. I watched all of Iowa's games. They are playing their best football. I think the best football they played in several years right now. They beat Minnesota 41 3. They hammered Wisconsin 370 and they beat Penn State 2524 their last three games. They have a great kick return on Norwegian. He has three returns this year for touchdown leads the ncaa. And their offense, how about this boys? They are running a triple option offense.
Rob Stone
How could we not look at that?
Urban Meyer
Yeah, kind of appropriate for this show. But triple option means this quarterback Gronowski is can hand it. He can pull it and run it or he can pull it and pitch it or throw it. Never run in a bunch of it. And I'm going to show some of that on Big Noon. So I'm going to. I'm going to pay question.
Rob Stone
Is their offense better this year than it was?
Urban Meyer
It is. They're averaging 32, almost 32 points per game last year, 27 and then a couple of years, you know, three, four years ago, Mark, they were awful. 15 points per game and 17. They still can't throw it very well. They're not ranked very high. But they're this Tim Lester, the offense coordinator is doing some really cool things. They're much better on offense. They were. So I'm going to go Oregon with the dub but I think it's going to be a 34 point game. So I'm going to take Iowa plus the points.
Rob Stone
They're talking about cold and rainy in Iowa City, but both those programs kind of built for that. All right, Mark, LSU without Brian Kelly in Tuscaloosa taken on Bama. The tide favored by nine and a half over under 50 and a half tied have won 12 of the last 14 in the series.
Mark Ingram II
Yeah, man, that's just what we do, man. They, they are a little brother too, but you know LSU coming in. I just hate all these teams firing they coach before they come play Bama, like just soak in the sorrow and let us just run over you. Like quit doing this. Quit trying to like regain composure and shift the momentum before you play B. This is always happening. But no, Frank Wilson comes to town. LSU coming to town. Coming off of by week. Bama is. And I like us at home, man. I think we haven't seen the best version of Alabama yet. We're throwing the ball really well. Ty Simpson, Ryan Williams, Jeremy Bernard Horton on the outside, we got to run the football better. But lsu, they just haven't been what they thought we were going to be since the beginning of the year. Nuss Meyer has been struggling because the offensive line, they, they, they, they allow him to get sacked a lot. They're not running the football well. A lot of tackles for loss. So this offense kind of is in a crisis identity. Obviously we're going to see a new offense, kind of like a new identity coming in. They're going to be feeling fresh, motivated to come into Tuscaloosa and play Belma tough. That's what they always try to do. Then defensively, their star linebacker, their leader Whit Weeks, he's been with a. A bone bruise in the ankle. We don't know he'll be questionable for the game. So we don't know how. The defense, they were supposed to be a strong point and they've been struggling as well. So I like Alabama, man. Ty Simpson, this defense, we've been, we've been great on third down, you know, we got to kind of still, we, we have been undisciplined at times, but we've been very opportunistic. Getting tackles for loss, getting sacks, getting turnovers for touchdowns. So I think this Alabama team coming off a bye week, I think we are going to perform really well. I think that we're going to see a better version of Alabama football that you've seen all year long at home. I like Alabama in this game. I'm laying the points nine and a half. I feel like Bama's going to roll. I feel like the Tide going to roll. I feel like we going to keep handling business. I feel like we gonna keep getting better. You haven't seen the best version of Alabama yet. And so I'm laying the points with the tie roll down tie, coach. And what you think, Coach? I don't give a piss about none but the Tide. It's all good, baby.
