We are talking about why you feel stuck and what to do about it today. Welcome to the Upside Podcast. I'm your host, Teresa Flood, and we help you get unstuck in life and business by elevating your thinking and provoking meaningful change from the inside out. And today we are talking about just that. We're talking about being stuck. And so many of us feel stuck in some aspect of our life or our business. And the key really is, is understanding what causing us to get stuck? Because all kinds of stuck aren't the same. So I want to give you three reasons why I believe, three categories of reasons why I believe the majority of times we get stuck. The first one is that we get complacent stuck. The second one is that we get frustrated stuck. And the third one is that we're misaligned stuck. And we're going to dive into all three of those. And I am going to be sending out an audit if you subscribe to teresaresafled.com, to help ask some questions for you to do some self reflection and move you from being stuck to not. And so let's start with complacent stuck. What does that really look like? So when we're complacent stuck, we're comfortable, but we're bored. We're going through the motions. We're just kind of in status quo. We're not really challenged. Life works, but it's not exciting. We're just kind of going through the motions. So there have been a couple key times in my life where I have felt, felt very complacent stuck. Before I took the leadership role at Keller Williams, this was all the way back in 2013. And at that time, I was very bored in the, in the job that I had. I was good at it. I was successful at it. It was a great. It was a great job. And yet I could have the conversations in my sleep. There wasn't anything about it that was really challenging. Now there were things about it that were really stressful. And I always say a combination between stressed and bored is just a terrible combination. I don't recommend stressed and bored, but I was at a place where I was really looking. I felt very, very stuck in what I was doing. I was really looking for something new and something to challenge me. A year and a half ago, before I went through this personal branding journey, I had been in my role as team leader at Keller Williams for a long time and have accomplished and done a lot of things. And I was feeling complacent, stuck and so when we're in that place, place, we're not necessarily miserable. We're just not having any kind of tension. And here's the truth. Growth always requires tension. Growth always requires tension. And if we're not growing inevitably, we're going to feel stuck. So the root issue when we're in this complacent stuck is that we've quit growing. We are not challenging ourselves, we're not pushing ourselves. And really, we're protecting our own growth. We're protecting our own comfort over our own growth. So here's the solution. If you are in a place right now that you would say, ah, that kind of resonates, I think it's me. I am a little bit bored with my business, with my career, with my life, with my relationships. Here's what I'm gonna challenge you to do. I'm gonna challenge you to raise your standards. I'm gonna challenge you to do something that stretches you to get out of your comfort zone, to push yourself beyond your limits. I'm gonna encourage you to go learn something new, try something different. Choose discomfort intentionally. So if we're going to get unstuck in a complacent kind of place, it's going to require courage. So your antidote to complacent stuck is courage. Okay, so let's talk about frustrated stuck. And the truth about frustrated stuck is that it's really, really frustrating. I mean, I don't know how else to say it. It's just really frustrating. When you're in this place. It is like you're beating your head against a brick wall. We have all, all been in this place at some time in our lives. You may be in this place now in one certain aspect of your life. What that looks like is you're working really hard. This is not an effort issue. When you're frustrated stuck, you're showing up consistently, you're doing the work, you're putting in the reps, and you're not seeing the results. Maybe things that worked for you previously are just no longer working. And so you can't figure out why you're not getting the results from the same kind of inputs that you got in the past. This requires you start questioning yourself when you're frustrated stuck. So when we're in a place of frustration, there's really three main reasons why that can happen. The first one, it could be a strategy problem. The second one is it could be a leverage problem. And the third is it could be a timing problem. So let's look at all three of those real quickly. So the first one is a strategy problem. And this is where I mentioned what you did before is maybe no longer working. I think that happens all oftentimes in business. You reach a certain level of success and all of a sudden you look up and the same appointments aren't yielding the same number of contracts, or the contracts aren't yielding the same number of closings, or the conversations aren't converting in the same way that they were before. The lead gen funnels that you used at one point aren't creating the same kind of results. Because maybe the market's changed, maybe the industry has changed, maybe the competition has changed. And so really we have a strategy problem. It's not a matter of working harder, doing more effort. We need to change the approach that we're doing to get a different result. You know, I can tell you at, if you equate this to working out, I will say the last couple years, in my mid-40s, I'm 46. That's still mid-40s, right? Well, all the things that I did in my early 40s and late 30s don't work the same way. I'm putting in the effort. I'm doing this stuff. And so what I realize now is I really have a strategy problem. I need to approach my workouts, I need to approach my diet, I need to approach my hormones, my supplements, all of that in a different way. So coaching can really help us when we're frustrated stuck. Coaching can really help with solutions and with strategy. The second reason that we might be frustrated stuck is is leverage. And what leverage does. So leverage is either systems, it's tools, or it's people. And what leverage does is that it increases our capacity. So what could be happening is that are again putting the same amount of output and we're looking to grow, we're looking to get to the next level. But ultimately, either our systems or the people around us or ourselves personally don't have the capacity for that kind of growth. So we're doing the same thing over and over, and we're hitting the same ceiling of achievement, which is incredibly frustrating. You hit the same income number year after year after year. You hit the same production numbers year after year. Well, ultimately it's because the capacity is not there. Doesn't make you bad or mean it's a bad thing or a weakness. It's just that we have to add either new systems to carry us to that next level, we have to use different tools, or we need people around us to help carry some of that Capacity. So it could be hiring somebody, it could be bringing somebody into our organization or into our world to increase that kind of capacity. So systems, tools, or people are the. Are the leverage points. And so when we're frustrated, if you're hitting the same ceiling over and over, look at your leverage, your systems, your tools, and your people. You've got to increase your capacity if you want to grow. And then the third thing that can show up when we're frustrated stuck is timing. And this, I think, happens to all of us. And what. What the truth is in this part is that we're not as stuck as we think we are. Meaning we're doing the activities, we're showing up consistently, but the results and the growth aren't happening fast enough. And so we're seeing externally a lot of frustration because we're putting in all the work, but yet the results aren't happening. If you are in this place, you just have to keep going. If you're in this place, you have to start focusing on the activities that you're doing and realize that the results will follow. You aren't as stuck as you think you are. If you think about a farmer that sows seed, the rains, water the seed, and yet nothing happens on the surface. But underneath the soil, those roots are starting to grow and that seed is starting to develop. And eventually you're going to see the results on the outside. So, again, when you are frustrated stuck, I get it, it's a horrible place to be. I want you to really look at it and say, okay, first of all, am I frustrated st because I need new strategy? And then ask, who can help me with that? Am I frustrated stuck because I need new capacity and I need new leverage? Or is it just timing and I need to stick with it? So regardless of what, of those three that you're in, if you're feeling frustrated stuck. The antidote is endurance. Because whether it is strategy, whether it is leverage, or whether it is timing, none of it happens overnight. So my challenge to you is you must keep going. You've got to stick with it. Pivot, adapt, change, make new choices, get into new actions, but do not stop and do not give up. The third kind of stuck is misaligned stuck. And I think this tends to happen after we've achieved a certain level of success in a particular thing. We wake up one day and everything that we had wanted to accomplish is checked off the list. And we ask ourselves, what's next? What am I really doing this for? Why does this even matter anymore? I see this happen with a lot of top producers and top achievers is what they were once really wanting to build and work for they years down the road. Look at it and go, is that really still what I want? Or I've achieved all of this, so what is really coming next? So the way that misaligned stuck shows up is it's low energy even when things are working. It's a lack of fulfillment, it's second guessing your next steps, it's maybe starting and stopping or procrastination in a way because you're just not really feeling all in anymore. And the root issue when we're misaligned is that we have either a wrong vision, maybe we've borrowed goals from somebody else. We're taking on expectations that somebody else has for us or that we think that other people have for us, that the crowds on social media have for us, or what we're supposed to be doing or achieving at a particular age or stage in life. We have maybe an outdated why, you know, the reason that we started, things have changed, maybe our kids have left home and so the reason we were building this business is different now. If you're feeling misaligned stuck, I just want to encourage you, that is okay. And it's time to pause for just a minute and reconnect to what you want now. Not what you wanted necessarily five years ago or 10 years ago, but what do you want today? What is the vision for the future? What is your next 3, 5, 10 years need to look like? It's time to revisit that and give yourself permission to pivot is if what mattered in the past no longer matters. You know what? That's okay. Give yourself permission to take on a new vision. Realize that vision is energy and it is the energy that will pull you through. You need a clear, meaningful and purposeful vision. You really don't need more motivation. You need more clarity. And that is what vision is going to give you. So clarity will create energy, energy will create action. And action is what gets us unstuck. Excuse me. So remember three main categories of feeling stuck. It's complacency and that's where you need to show up with courage. It's frustration. That's where you need endurance and it's misalignment. And that's where you need vision. So here's my challenge. If you find yourself stuck in one area of your life, you could be in different areas, you could be in different places on this. But if you're feeling complacent, my challenge to you today is to go do something bold. Do something that's out of your comfort zone. Go pick up something that's new and different. You get out of complacency. If you are feeling frustrated, I'm going to encourage you to not quit, to adjust and pivot as you need to. But it's it. You must endure. Do not quit too early. And then third, if you're misaligned, I want you to pause. I want you to ask yourself questions, big questions, life questions, and really realign. So if you go to teresaerasaflood.com and subscribe on Thursday when this episode drops, I will send you out an audit to do that. Will ask you some questions, some self reflection for you to really look at the different areas of your life where you might be feeling stuck to help bring you some clarity and then give you some action steps to help you move forward. You do not have to stay stuck. And so that is my challenge for you today. Thank you so much for listening. And as always, when you invest in your growth every single day, it's going to yield you great returns. Thanks for being an upsider. We'll see you next week.
