Filippo
Tragic.
Nick
Sad.
Kenneth
True.
Nick
In all reality, he's enjoying some much deserved time off from the pod and from the office. So with that all out of the way, let's get to the news. Let's do it.
Kenneth
And we start with Ferrari. This car broke the Internet this week. This is the Ferrari SC40. It's a one off car. It's being made for a very special client. It's based on the 296. And the whole thing about it is that it's supposed to hearken back to the F40. Now, a lot of people are very upset about this.
Filippo
So many qu.
Kenneth
Exactly. Now, you look at this car. Fleeting. You think, gee, aren't all F40s red? You would be correct. Anything. Don't all F40s have a twin turbo V8? And you would be correct. And you look at this and it's like, does this remind you of an F40? In absolutely no way does this look like an F40. But they have said that this car, specifically it is an F40. Reimagined. It's an homage to F40. It's not an F40. Out and out. It's not supposed to be like a direct Successor to the F40. It's just a one off car made for a very rich client.
Filippo
I have a big question. Okay, so we made a lot of fun on Lamborghini when they came out with the the Countach. Which is based, at the very least on an Aventador. Why is this not based on Ferrari's current top of the lineup?
Kenneth
That's a great question.
Filippo
The 296 is their not entry level, I guess, but.
Kenneth
No, it's this. It's.
Filippo
The V8 exists.
Kenneth
Exactly.
Filippo
It's a V6.
Kenneth
Yes. But it follows the V8 line. It's supposed to be in that lineage, which has always been kind of their entry level. Now it's more their middle level car. It's not the high end car the F40 was, which was the King Halo.
Filippo
They have other cars. They still have the SF90, I think. Why is this not based on SF98?
Nick
I don't know.
Kenneth
It would be nice. They could have sold one more. Could have written that down as the same.
Filippo
That is partially my thought process.
Nick
Yeah. They could just rebody some unsold units. I'm sitting in Doug's literal chair and so I hate to harken his opinion here, but one, as Doug would remind you, anytime a new design comes out, people automatically hate it.
Kenneth
Absolutely.
Nick
It's time to normalize it. Two, it's actually pretty cool. It does. I know you agree it doesn't look like the F40. I don't love this like weird headlight connecting to bumper line there. But the rear quarter of it definitely looks F40. The wing, you definitely see it. But it isn't like the Countach where it is just a blatant ripoff of it. Like, they involved the styling a little bit.
Kenneth
See, actually the designer said they wanted to make it a more squared off look, which they definitely achieved. But I think this is a perfect example of why Ferrari doesn't put wings on cars. I think it's very badly executed. I think it looks very awkward and it doesn't look right. And the 296 is a beautiful flowing base design.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenneth
So. And they're still. I mean, that rear haunch is still the 296. And so for them to then like add, it just looks odd. And the other thing is, you say we're going to see this car. We're never going to see this car. There's only. We're only going to make one. This is going to sit in a collection. Rich guy's going to bring his friends over. Look at this.
Nick
We're going to ski it at car week every year, doing donuts around the quail.
Filippo
I mean, we can hope.
Kenneth
One can hope.
Nick
I like it. I agree with you. It should be red. That is my main critique. Of it. It doesn't look good in white. I put it in a chat GPT and redid it as red and I'm.
Kenneth
Like a thousand times better. I do agree with that. And again, if you're paying homage to the F40, all of them, despite what people. Some people say they are wrong. All of them left the factory in red, period. Like that is. The factory has said that. That. Hence that's the truth in this case.
Nick
And the factory never lies.
Kenneth
Well, the fact, especially Ferrari in that era, well, they wanted to make as m. Well, yeah, but that era, don't forget they said they're going to make 400, made 1300 sued them. They're all red. But this car, I don't know. I. I do think the coolest thing about which we don't have a picture is the. And I don't think there are any pictures of the interior has used Kevlar instead of carbon as like. And Kev. It's got like a goldish look to it. I think that that'll actually be pretty cool. And I do think it's kind of a cool car. When you get to the point where you can order one off Ferraris from.
Filippo
The company, you're doing well.
Kenneth
Yeah, I mean, that's pretty real. Like that's what you dream of being able to do. But nonetheless, of course, exactly to your.
Nick
Point, who do you think the buyer is here? It's not like the salt and the Brunei. I doubt, I doubt it's Eric Clapton, who's known for it. It's not James Clickenhaus. So like, who is that billionaire that's commissioning the F40 revivals?
Filippo
It's a great choice.
Nick
Bad.
Filippo
Making bad decisions along the way.
Nick
Commissioner David Lee, Councilman David L. And.
Filippo
Making poor all the way. I have a question for you both. Derail those. All right. On Ferrari's website for 2025, I'm excluding the special series and the Icon models.
Kenneth
Okay.
Filippo
What cars does Ferrari sell in 2025?
Kenneth
Okay, so the GT Subtilandry.
Filippo
Yeah, that's there.
Kenneth
The 296 GTB and then the GTS.
Filippo
Yep. The.
Kenneth
Parasangwe. The Amalfi.
Filippo
Well done.
Kenneth
The. They said it's like the.
Filippo
Wow.
Nick
Really?
Kenneth
What's the. It's the X, the XX. Are you counting that?
Filippo
No, no, no. The. The 296 Pachala and the SF90XX are both in their special series.
Kenneth
You said I'm missing three.
Filippo
Incredibly missing three.
Nick
The car's already named. It's just like this is the Aperta.
Filippo
I'm not including. You're actually missing four. I'm not including the Spider version one.
Nick
Okay.
Kenneth
Wolf is the entry level car, then. Then the T96 Pure song was a separate one. I can't remember because there's no.
Filippo
The SF90 is gone.
Nick
Remember when it was just like, there's a Gallardo and a Murcia logo.
Filippo
Yeah, I remember when Ferra famously made the Gallardo in the Mercio.
Kenneth
I should know this and I'm gonna.
Filippo
Kick myself for the answer. The Ferrari Roma Spider.
Kenneth
Wait, they still make the Roma in addition to the Amalfi?
Filippo
Just the Spider, apparently.
Kenneth
Aren't they phasing out? Oh, because they don't make.
Nick
I can't.
Kenneth
Only for now, I guess I can't explain.
Filippo
That's why the A49 Testarossa is on their website, as is the Spider. And then the Electrica is on their website as a model, despite the fact that it just shows a chassis, which.
Kenneth
Is as much a car as it is.
Filippo
But that is what their website says their 2025 lineup is. Right, of course. So they.
Kenneth
Of course, 2025 lineup. The Electrica won't come out till 2026 or 27, if it comes out at all.
Filippo
So why not make this based on the Testarossa, which looks similar already?
Kenneth
The tester was said. Does look very similar. I forgot about that.
Filippo
Doesn't matter.
Nick
Ferrari's like Hollywood, bringing back reboots and homages. Next story.
Kenneth
Well, yes. Moving on to the next story. Porsche, the CEO. So this must be Felipe.
Filippo
Correct. We talked about Porsche a couple weeks ago because there was talks of them. Their prior CEO, Oliver Bloom, was also the CEO of the Volkswagen Group. And there was a lot of concern that he wasn't able to focus on Porsche at a time when they are struggling somehow. They have a new CEO. His name is Michael Leiters. He was at Porsche from like 2000 to 2013. He started out as like the CEO's assistant in, like, 2003. He was responsible for the Cayenne hybrid. So that's exciting.
Nick
Wow.
Filippo
And then he went to McLaren from 2015 to 2017, something like that. And now he's back at Porsche. Wow. He's apparently very pro hybrids in general, which is interesting for Porsche at a time when they are struggling with how to electrify their lineup. He was at Ferrari for a little bit. He helped develop the SF90 and the 296.
Kenneth
Right. Great track record already.
Filippo
And now he's the CEO of Porsche. It's an interesting choice because none of those products are Products that like or like eras of the company that are that successful. Now, Ferrari, of course, is incredibly successful.
Kenneth
I have to clarify, the 296 is an incredibly successful car.
Filippo
The SF90. Lesser.
Kenneth
The SF90, lesser.
Filippo
Like McLaren in those years, was doing well by McLaren standards. Yeah, right.
Kenneth
Which is just above failure.
Nick
Great brand.
Filippo
Correct. Which isn't like. It's an interesting choice. He was at McLaren 2025-20. Sorry, 2022-2025. He helped develop the 750s, which is obviously a car you can identify as a 750s.
Kenneth
So what do we extrapolate? Right, so we extrapolate that Porsche is going to do. It's going to be more of a hybrid year for Porsche, which kind of. With the difficulties they've had going into full electrification, the hybrid does seem like the big, you know, we'll bridge the gap. But I'm curious what, like, ideas he's going to bring to the brand? I don't know.
Filippo
Who do you hire? If you're Porsche, you're doing this executive search, who is like, a true. Like a tried and true professional who loves sports cars that has credit in the sportscare field? There's nobody. No other sportscare company except for Ferrari has had any success. Right.
Kenneth
And AP doesn't really want to. And Andreas Springer doesn't want to go into that role. He wants to stick with the GT cars, which. Who can blame him?
Nick
It sounds like he knows how the company operates, he knows the people, and so he might just be able to remove blockers as they become a bigger, more corpor entity. And then, I mean, the CEO is not designing the car. So I'm sure they have veto power to say, like, yeah, the SF90 stinks, but at the same time, like, it's. That's not really. His goal is to be the visionary.
Kenneth
I think in Italy, if you say that, I think it's punishable by death. You criticize a Ferrari?
Filippo
Well, I find it to be an interesting hire because. So he was at Ferrari 2014 and 2019 as their chief technology officer. How would you describe Ferrari's technology in that era? Tough, right?
Kenneth
Yeah. Take away the buttons. Is this the button guy?
Filippo
Did he rip? He may be the button guy. It's a little. It's a. It's a tough hire for Porsche. Hard to find the right person. They have faith in him, presumably. It feels like an odd hire. Like, when I saw the resume, it didn't quite make sense. Like, this is the person that's going to bring Porsche to the next level, but Also at his offense. McLaren is a hard place to work and have a ton of success. Ferrari, I think, is a hard place to work and like, have impact and have a ton of success. Yes, obviously, Ferrari are incredibly successful as a whole.
Nick
Do they need to go to the next level, though? I always think of a wartime CEO and a peacetime CEO. Porsche's at the next level.
Filippo
I mean, they're in wartime by.
Nick
Their stock may go up and down.
Filippo
And sales for China are down massively.
Nick
Their products are top notch. Every enthusiast is like, salivating to the point where it's become annoying and a meme, basically. True.
Kenneth
But they're larger products that they make, that they need to make money on in order to fund those projects. Realistically, that seems to be where they're suffering the most. And that's what, that's my fear is that it really impacts their ability to make the GT4Rs and the stuff that you and I.
Filippo
Although, to be fair, the Cayenne hybrid, successful vehicle, good vehicle. There you go.
Kenneth
Exactly. It's kind of a. For those of you who are listening to Auto, we all just kind of shrugged at the same time.
Filippo
No, obviously he's an enthusiast car company CEO. Hopefully he'll bring good things to Porsche.
Kenneth
Yeah, I wish him nothing but the best. And like you said, it's a, it's a great brand that's headed in a great.
Nick
I hear there's another automotive CEO that's threatening to quit if their pay package doesn't get approved. So maybe.
Filippo
What a good transition.
Nick
He's just a temporary holdover until a better talent becomes a nice, smoother transition.
Kenneth
Three stories ahead, but we'll jump there. Go ahead.
Nick
You know, that's how, that's how your brain works when you have disorders, sleep apnea. So Elon Musk, exed, Twittered, whatever, what have you. There's, there's debate over his pay and the headlines are actually incredibly misleading because it says, oh, Elon wants a trillion dollar pay package that's mostly in stock, in equity, and like, that is based on future growth. And it's not like someone's giving him literally a trillion dollars. However, he wants to retain all the voting control. There's a couple other stipulations, but he's having disputes with the shareholders and other people on how much he should be paid, how much, how the payment mechanisms work. And he basically alluded to on Twitter that, hey, if I doesn't get approved, that's someone else's problem, then I won't be CEO anymore. I'm Out.
Filippo
Elon has been in a bunch of different fights about his pay. There's currently a lawsuit at Delaware Supreme Court of Memory Service about a pay package that was approved years ago that was something like a much smaller amount, 50 million, 500 million something in that range, large range, that was for meeting specific targets. He would have gotten a ton of stock and cash. The argument by some shareholders is that that was not actually like the correct fiduciary thing for the board to do and therefore they were set the rights or didn't follow that large debate. He hasn't received that money yet. Tesla's in a weird position where they are the most valuable car company by far. Their market cap is many, many times any other car company's market cap. Stands to reason that his compensation should be quite extreme. Trillion dollars is an extreme number. Competition maybe should be extreme. But there's also a question of is he helping the brand? Is the brand advancing in any real way? Is that stock value? Is that share value? Correct. Is that market cap? Correct. No, short answer.
Kenneth
And you could, the last calendar year you could make a serious argument that he was more of a detriment to Tesla than totally.
Filippo
And so there's a bit of a question there. So a bunch of shareholder groups have advised their members to don't vote for this pay package. It also includes a bunch of lock ins that make it harder for the board to have flexibility in the future. He needs to fight for that. And Tesla, understandably, as a company, is going to fight for him to get the pay package and the approval from the board that they're looking for.
Nick
It's hard to take any tweet too seriously. Right? Like that's a bargaining tactic that you need to have at your disposal. Their earnings also came out yesterday. I believe they had a really good quarter, although the analysts basically say, yeah, of course you did. It was the end of subsidies. We'll see how that plays out for you. But interesting times in Tesla. I hate that they're always a news story, but like, because they are valued at like more than the other automakers practically combined, it's hard not to talk about Tesla, their business and sort of their market dominance.
Filippo
Should we also talk about how to pronounce it or.
Nick
Nah, no, it's with a Z. Nick.
Kenneth
Also can't say the word Vegas. Like say Las Vegas words.
Nick
Vegas.
Kenneth
Yeah, he says Vegas.
Filippo
Fascinating. Vegas.
Kenneth
Nick struggles with simple tasks, but that.
Filippo
Is Elon Musk's current fight. So he currently has a fight about his pay against his board. Well, actually the Board is aligned with him against the state of Delaware, sort of. And now maybe another like.
Nick
And here he is pictured with the new Roadster, which.
Filippo
The roadster, by the way, there was a news item this week that they will show the Roadster again this year.
Kenneth
Yep, Christmas is coming and so is Fool Me once.
Nick
Shame on. Shame on fool me. Yeah, whatever it is, can't get fooled again.
Kenneth
Yeah, exactly. But that's Tesla.
Sean
I've been using Delete me for years now, and let me tell you, I'm still just as grateful for it today as I was the day I signed up. The first time I saw my personal info all over the Internet, it was honestly kind of alarming. My full name, old phone number, old addresses, even info about my family was just sitting there, publicly accessible. And it wasn't on just one site, it was on dozens. I had no idea that kind of data was floating around, let alone how easy it was for anyone to get their hands on it. And listen. As someone who's pretty visible online, I've had to deal with some pretty weird stuff. Random emails, weird messages, people digging a little too deep. That's why privacy is something I take seriously. Delete me became a core part of how I protect myself and my family. And that's why I always recommend Deleteme. It's been one of the best decisions I've made when it comes to online safety and peace of mind. Deleteme is a subscription service that removes your personal information from hundreds of data broker sites. And here's what I love. You don't have to do anything complicated. You give them your info once what you want removed, and they go to work. Every few months, they send me a personalized report showing exactly what they found and what they've removed. I've gotten emails like, we found your name, phone number and address on 38 sites and we removed it. It's honest, kind of incredible. And they don't stop. This is an ongoing thing. Deleteme keeps monitoring and removing your info so it doesn't just come right back. Over the years, I've watched the amount of my data online shrink more and more. It's like a digital spring cleaning, but someone else is doing all the work. Take control of your data and keep your private life private by signing up for Deleteme now with a special discount for our viewers today. Get 20% off your DeleteMe plan when you go to JoinDeleteMe.com Demuro and use code demuro at checkout. So going back a couple of stories. So something new altogether new, unrelated, completely. Porsche has. And back on the Porsche talk. Porsche has filed an application for a patent for a W18 engine. So that's three six cylinder engines mated together at the crank. But not only that, it's also a tri turbo, not a BI turbo like a Mercedes tri turbo. So each one also has a turbocharger. Now I will say that every time there's like automatic. Auto manufacturers file patents all the time. It's not unusual that they do this. They just want to get ahead on things. But this would be cool. And Porsche actually followed up saying like explaining a little bit of their logic of why they're doing this. The plenum system is really interesting about how the air is spit out to all six cylinders. So like they put some thought into this for some application potentially. It seems now whether or not it ever comes into fruition, we don't really know. But this is a lot of hope. And if they make, if they make a W, if make a W18 engine.
Filippo
You know, 911, famously six cylinders, we would not accept a V8 flat six. Yeah, six cylinders is what I said. We would not accept a V8. We would not accept the V12.
Kenneth
Except the Cayenne.
Filippo
No, no. From a 911. But this is a multiple effect.
Kenneth
Well, it could, yeah.
Filippo
It's just three of the engines.
Kenneth
Oh, you're saying it follows in the line.
Filippo
It could fit, you know, it could fit.
Nick
Conceptually, this would break the Internet on the level that Veyron did.
Kenneth
You know, I was thinking about this the other day. I went back and watched the Top Gear like the Veyron race when Jeremy drove it against the plane and raced from Italy to London.
Nick
Sure.
Kenneth
And he said at the end that it was a hollow victory because he will never experience that kind of power again. And at the very end he said like, no manufacturer will ever make a car like this again. And then of course they continue to iterate on the Veyron. Then we got the Chiron and now a lot of cars have well over a thousand horsepower. So like, I don't know, there is hope for this. And I think if you're to mate Rimac's point, like if you're the type of client who wants the ultimate and you want, if you're going to pay millions of dollars for a car. And you want something insane. That is insane.
Filippo
Cool.
Kenneth
Yeah, that's a. That is.
Nick
A serious new CEO is going to put this in the. The Cayenne hybrid.
Filippo
You know what?
Kenneth
Maybe he's responsible for this.
Nick
Wow.
Kenneth
Maybe that's what it is.
Nick
The hybrid is actually the hybrid of the turbos. The three V6s made it together.
Filippo
What a fascinating patent. Like, what are you. What would you. Why just why power? Why not?
Kenneth
Why not? Maybe that's the question. He's challenging his engineers. He drew a line.
Filippo
Why not sended the 911 lineup to have a W18. A dove W18.
Kenneth
Exactly. Moving on to our next news story.
Filippo
Toyota does not have W18.
Kenneth
Damn. I'm surprised.
Filippo
I know. So this is the new FJ Cruiser.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
We've all said that every manufacturer needs more off road ready SUVs. And Toyota has come through and made a new FJ Cruiser. It will not be sold in the. Yeah, it says Land Cruiser. It would be part of the Land Cruiser family. It's based on the Hilux. Right. It will not be sold in the US and therefore not worth talking that much more about. It won't be sold in the US or Europe.
Nick
It's going to have Geminis and these sorts of. Just cruising around and we're not. We're going to be 20 miles away yet. So far.
Kenneth
Yep, exactly.
Filippo
So close.
Kenneth
It looks so cool.
Nick
It seems. It's funny. Toyota seems like it's becoming a truck company. Like they've got a fire lineup of trucks. They're coming out with more bangers. The Land Cruiser has actually grown on me a little bit. Even though I was one of the like naysayers initially. This would do very well. I wonder why they think Americans don't like rugged off road SUVs. That makes literally no sense.
Filippo
No, I'm not surprised.
Kenneth
All they have to do is look at the Jeep. The Jeep is the only company keep or the only main product.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenneth
Keeping Stellantis alive, basically. Like. And we want it. Americans want Jeeps. They want. I mean, so just bring it.
Nick
Maybe they looked at the Renegade and they said, oh, maybe it doesn't sell.
Filippo
Huh?
Nick
Okay.
Kenneth
Yeah, exactly.
Filippo
Keep in mind that everybody had to buy a new one every three years because it broke down, it died.
Nick
Made in Toledo, Ohio, thank you very much.
Kenneth
Right.
Nick
That's exactly 419.
Filippo
It's a little surprising that they're not. I mean it's based on a platform that's not sold in the US And I imagine there'll be a bunch of development costs. To make it compliant with US regulations But also it's feels like that's the.
Kenneth
Cost of doing business. Like if you're going to sell a car you want to be successful or.
Nick
Not like and we previously discussed on the pod the EPA is no longer enforcing some of the like fuel economy standards and like they still this is this is a good time to slide in another inefficient fuel vehicle or make.
Filippo
It have something else really. This is based on the Hilux platform. Make something off of the why am I blanking the name of the There's a platform that every single one of Toyota's crossovers are the RAV4 platform. No the one that's all the other ones the Land Cruiser and the 4Runner and the Tacoma et cetera are based on like make a shorter version somehow and it's a shame that they seem.
Kenneth
To be refusing to It's a shame because man is that cool.
Filippo
TNGA the new generation something you got there.
Nick
It is pretty I rented the old version in Sedona once and took it off roading. It was it was like a very fun cool vehicle.
Filippo
My in laws have a first gen one now and it's not a vehicle that I care about but it's cool.
Nick
You sold some of the what was the final editions that look like really good with the TRD wheels. Yeah they like they're they're still got a cult following 20 years ago.
Filippo
They're worth money. A low mile I'm looking at that's called too is worth real money that.
Nick
Blue fjord but yeah I can't remember what the but yeah it's ultimate.
Filippo
The trail team's ultimate.
Nick
It's so weird that you would do a throwback Land Cruiser and then not do a throwback one of this right on its I agree it's heels everybody.
Filippo
Assumes coming to the US shame that it's not.
Kenneth
Well hopefully Toyota listens to us. Listen to the Toyota Goat, Toyota B which are right up there.
Nick
Yes.
Kenneth
They want it to come to the United States. Exactly. Thank you for those who've been listening for a long time. All right next news story. Moving on from something that looks like it's driving around in rare earth materials we'll talk about actual rare earth materials.
Nick
All right.
Filippo
Are you familiar with China?
Nick
Yes.
Kenneth
Heard of it Once or twice.
Nick
You've heard of it Once in Asia.
Filippo
They China. The vast majority of rare earths that are mined are in China. 70% of global rare earth mining happened in China. Rare earth mining connected to cars in a bunch of ways. It's obviously important for electric cars and batteries, but it's also important for a lot of things you might not expect. Side mirrors, speakers, oil pumps, windshield wipers. They all use some kind of magnet rare earth stuff. The US Is currently fighting with China about tariffs, and China is retaliating in a bunch of ways, including their own tariffs and also including a lot of export controls where they're not letting specific goods leave their country or very least leave their country and come to the U.S. rare earth is one of those things that China has already clamped down on and has threatened to lock down more, which would pretty much put a halt to certainly EV production, but generally car production in a really, really meaningful way in the US and so that is the story. It is something to watch, certainly, because that is a huge bargaining chip that the Chinese government has, especially because they do control exports and imports in a way that few other countries do, and it could legitimately shut down production of things outside of their country. Every automaker right now is working as quickly as they can to lock down sources of the rare earth metals that they need from China, from other countries to try to, like, have enough.
Nick
It's a good thing we learned our lesson from the chip shortage during COVID Sure did. We don't have any supply demand issues.
Filippo
Nope. Sure did. It's the same situation, just even more impactful. Right. Those chips led to certainly diminished production throughout Covid of cars. Also led to some weird decontenting. GM famously removed heated seats from all their cars.
Nick
Oh, yeah.
Filippo
Because they couldn't get the chips for that. This would be that. But much, much more impactful to actually important parts of the car.
Nick
This is the perfect storm for Jaguar, who has a year's supply of cars ready to go. We're just gonna get new cars on the road. That brings some diversity.
Kenneth
They're all gonna be jags from two years ago.
Nick
W18s with three turbos that need a lot of chips for this.
Filippo
You're gonna start seeing a lot of cars, like, with their door mirrors removed and mounted on other cars, like, strip off the metals.
Kenneth
That's the European dream. If that were optional option cost, you wouldn't check that box.
Filippo
As a kid, our car did not have a passenger door mirror.
Kenneth
That's crazy. It's like the 70s.
Nick
It's the perfect spot.
Filippo
This is the 2000s. The car was a 1998.
Kenneth
I know, but it's like the 70s.
Nick
It was optional cars and beds stands to benefit from this. So we applaud. Right.
Filippo
We have a bunch of rare in this office.
Kenneth
That's. I mean, sure. But I mean, this is just what happens when you start a trade war. There's a lot of. There are a lot of different levers that both sides can pole. Boy, I hope this gets.
Nick
Speaking of rare earth, dangerous one, I was at a fundraiser for the local fire department over the weekend.
Filippo
Sure.
Nick
They had an E39 that was on, like, work wheels that they used to catch on fire as training exercises. Titanium, silver. And I'm like, I wonder if there's any parts. Like their door handles look pretty nice. I'm like, I wonder if I could pull one off for you. But Rancho Santa Fe Fire station number two has an E39 that they use for training a lot of rare earth minerals.
Filippo
Those light on fire by themselves, which is perfect for sure.
Kenneth
They do not.
Filippo
Not.
Kenneth
They're not firehearts. Well, if you're. Yeah. If you have any 39M5 PSA, make sure to replace your brake lines. Those are the. The ones by the ABS module. Those can rupture the. Right by the headers and that causes a fire.
Nick
You like. You like cars that catch on fire? Easy. The 355. The E39.
Kenneth
The 355 was particularly known for it. But the E39, it's. Yeah, it's. It is an unfortunate thing I've had that done. So I am not. Not worried about firing.
Filippo
This car will not light on fire.
Kenneth
Yes. My car is well maintained. Moving on to the next news story. Wow.
Nick
Waymo, my favorite driverless cars. Not actually.
Filippo
Have you been in one?
Nick
Staunchly, no.
Filippo
You should try it.
Nick
Refuse on ethical grounds to get in one because.
Filippo
Can you remind me of the ethical grounds?
Nick
Because it takes away jobs. Like being a driver in the gig economy is like one of the backstops for unemployment. And like to have these like, Google tech execs, like, making all this money by, like, taking people's jobs. I don't like that in general. It's also in an I pace, which, like, you'd have to pay me to get into anyways.
Kenneth
But Jaguar sold cars. This saved jobs for Jaguar.
Nick
Oh, please.
Kenneth
It's the only cars they sold.
Nick
They're planes idling. However, the most important reason why I won't do it is exactly this new story. They're being looked into because at a school crossing, a school bus had its stoplight out and kids were getting out, and the thing almost like plowed over a group of children. Like, basically they're being investigated to see if they're actually as safe as they claim. Because there's so many fringe cases of like a duck crossing the road.
Filippo
Like, well, the duck can die, I'm sorry to say.
Nick
Well, the.
Kenneth
But it has to calculate what's. What lives are worth more than others. That's something that you have to figure out.
Nick
Like that It's a classic train problem in ethics, right?
Filippo
Yeah, that's right.
Kenneth
That's exactly right.
Filippo
I'm glad they're being investigated. I'm glad that the NHTSA is taking these cases seriously.
Nick
Yes.
Filippo
Obviously the counter argument for people that are very pro autonomous vehicles is human drivers also run over children in school zones. Tragically, very sadly. If you're a driver, please be careful legitimately, like obey school zones. I'm glad they're being investigated though, because they need to. Like there are certain things that they need to be incredibly good at for any of us to feel comfortable with those cars on the road. And if they're not, then they can't be on the road is my stance.
Nick
Tech companies, like when Google's AI solution came out and it was like, how do you make your pizza gooier? And it says, oh, put glue in it. Because it pulled it from Reddit without any thought. Like, I do not trust a tech company to drive a vehicle without someone overseeing it. They're too profit motivated and not safety oriented enough. So at the very least it's good there's lawsuits to hold them somewhat accountable. But I don't trust the US government to enforce this in a way that's going to be a viable solution.
Kenneth
But I still suspect this is coming whether you want it to or not.
Nick
I want W18s with three turbos and I want to final. Final, Final edition, unfortunately.
Kenneth
And the last 150,000th Pagani Zonda edition.
Nick
If we run out of rare earth metals, you can keep your eye paces. We are good.
Filippo
Okay.
Nick
We'll take SC 40s.
Filippo
Hard to argue that. Yeah.
Kenneth
Okay. And that is the end of the news.
Filippo
Thank God for that.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenneth
Now we come to talk cars, which is brought to us this week, but. Well, you're not wearing your. I can't. You're not wearing a giraffe shirt. So.
Filippo
I'm not wearing a draft shirt.
Kenneth
Yeah, I. Sponsored by your glass. Your green glasses. Most people don't realize Filippo has green glasses. You can only tell when he's wearing green. So thank you for your glad glasses. Sponsored.
Filippo
I think they're green at all times.
Kenneth
Yes, but you never. I don't ever notice.
Filippo
Those are really dirty. I should clean them.
Kenneth
They are.
Filippo
Hey, Kenan. Will you clean my glasses for me?
Kenneth
I will halfway clean your glasses.
Filippo
Today's Talk Cars is brought to you by Poloti because details matter and the right car deserves the right gear. Peloti shoes are engineered to enhance the fundamental connection between the driver and the car, improving steering, shifter and pedal feel. Just as you wouldn't compromise a great car with cheap tires, why dull the feel of your dream car with inadequate footwear? And look at these, they just look like a stylish shoe. I've been wearing these even when I'm not getting behind the wheel of a car and I'm going on a trip soon. I'm going to be wearing them every day. It's clear these shoes are designed by a true driving enthusiast. Every element serves a purpose, contributing to a more sensitive and connected experience. The thinner sole in particular offers great pedal feel, a difference that you won't fully appreciate until you try them. And the brilliant roll control heel is a game changer, especially for manual transmission drivers, as I hope that many of you are part. It's specially designed to facilitate smooth pedal transitions, making heel and toe downshift much easier. Pelotus shoes are the kind of upgrade you don't consider until you experience them. And once you do, there's really no going back. They complete that crucial connection between the driver and the car. So don't just bid on your next dream car. On cars and bids, make sure you also get the right gear for it. You can visit poloti.com and use code carsandbids for 15% off. Poloni.com and use cars ampersand bids for 15% off.
Kenneth
Nick, you have some news? Yeah, start us off.
Nick
Well, the big thing, no one still knows what car I'm going to get next. There's no car around. I've been really subtle, so keep guessing. Someone will get it eventually. You know, it's hard to tell what it could be, but the big story for me is actually that the Murcielago, it ends on Thursday. We're filming this on Wednesday. So I actually don't know how it's going to end, but by the time this launches on Friday, the auction will be over. As we are speaking, it's at $251,000. It's a pretty good number and I'm hopeful that there's a little action at the end. I expect more action because, you know, a car I may or may not have purchased behind me is coming in soon. Potentially. It's. I'm gonna pretty much let it loose regardless, so I'm excited. It's been really fun. I think it's gotten something like a couple Hundred comments. Yeah.
Filippo
155 comments, 50,000 views. 1800 people watching, which is really strong.
Nick
I've had a lot of people like DM me and chat up me, so it's been really fun just to hear everyone's reactions. A lot of people super into the Murcia Lago. The feedback is still iffy on if the SLR was the right choice, but I'm having fun.
Filippo
Don't help people.
Nick
Well, yeah, I mean the hypothetical unnamed car made by maybe Mercedes or maybe McLaren.
Filippo
We don't know.
Nick
They don't know either.
Kenneth
Well, I think I speak for us all. I am definitely going to miss that. Your mercy, it was wild to have one in our lives gives and you're very generous in letting us all drive.
Filippo
It and driven it. But that's on me actually.
Kenneth
Yeah, you drove it briefly on and off a truck.
Filippo
I parked it on a transporter and then unpacked.
Nick
Yes. That was the only first gear in E gear.
Filippo
Only time I've been in it was going up a ramp.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
In a tight confined spot.
Nick
Just the worst kind of career gt, you know, that's. That's it. All the Internet nut swingers typically only drive it about that far, then come up with a conclusion of, oh, the E gear is terrible.
Filippo
The eager was fine.
Nick
Eager it was. Except for in first gear, going in and out of it was fine.
Kenneth
But I am genuinely going to miss the car. Like, I'm glad that you had the experience and you shared it with us all and opened my eyes to how wonderful those cars are and I can't.
Nick
Wait to figure out what I replace it with. But when, when we do find that out, I have a feeling that that car will be pretty fun too. So yeah, you'll have to stay tuned next week to figure out what that could be.
Filippo
Yeah, that. Are you sad that your mercy is going to be gone?
Nick
Yeah.
Kenneth
What are your feelings? What are your family's feelings?
Filippo
They.
Nick
Everyone's surprised, like including like my mom and my dad. They're like, I can't believe you're finally getting rid of it. My mom wanted me to sell it like the first day I got it cuz she's like, oh, it's too much money in a car. I mean, but it's an icon. I, I think I could always go back if I needed to. The. The only lingering fear is like they're, they're on the upswing. So financially it's like, okay, Maybe it would have made sense to hold onto it longer but. But I'm ready for a new experience. It's fine.
Kenneth
You know, I think whenever someone is done with a car, whether it's going to be worth more in five years, it's just not worth it to you to hold it that long. So when you're done with it emotionally, you've done everything you want to do with it. It is fun. Time to move it on now. That said, to my point, I'm not done with my car, although I am looking very much for the second car out of the stable and I will buy one soon. But I think that you just reached the end of the journey with that particular car and like you said to your point, you could go back to it again if you wanted to.
Nick
Well, as Hagerty points out to me, every time I add a new car to the policy and I'm up to six cars on the policy, they go. We looked at Google Earth and you have a two car garage and our requirement is that they're parked inside. And so every time that conversation gets a little trickier. But they're as you can see in this back area.
Kenneth
Yeah, we'll help.
Filippo
They're in a garage.
Kenneth
Yeah, we'll support this insanity.
Nick
But the Murcielaga was such a good car like fairly uneventful other than a starter motor. I am thrilled though not to toot your guys horn because I don't work here but cars and bids was so easy to work with. Your, your video producer shot all the pictures and people have been like geeking out over how great pictures cool. The the pictures are with the aircraft carrier in the back. The comments have been really good. And 251 with 24 hours to go. It's a good number. I would say if this car were eager and not converted this is well over what it would be worth. Worth as an automatic. Like maybe a dealer might list a car like this for 250 but they're taking 220.
Filippo
Clearly there there's a reward to the manual swap.
Kenneth
Yeah.
Filippo
The question will become how much reward and we can't. When people are watching this they will know the answer to that.
Nick
I worry there's going to be some speculators that come after this and start buying to convert and flip which some people have argued I did. That was never my intention. But yeah, I think it's, it's like a very exciting time for Murcielago owners and it is funny the two owners groups I'm in everyone's like watching this like a hawk to know did they make the right choice? Should they convert? Should they not? Machina, who did the conversion. I spoke with him yesterday and he's like, yeah, a lot of people are watching this and wanting to know how it turns out. Including them because I originally talked to them about buying my car when I was trying to get Ed's Diablo and we came to a number that, that they probably could have converted and flipped it and made some money. So now he's going to figure out if he has remorse, not buying it. Basically.
Filippo
Yeah, I bet he does. And I, I suspect the last day will be a very interesting.
Nick
He has, he has some remorse. Other than all the videos and fun adventures we've had as a team have been good for their business.
Filippo
So it's an incredible car. It's a beautiful car. Get a manual now. We'll miss it in our group of friends.
Kenneth
Yeah, but you're not Nick Mercy anymore. You'll be Nick some other car.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
Unknown car.
Nick
Yes. Nick.
Filippo
Hey, move to right a little bit. Just so. That's just so you can. They, they can't see what car.
Kenneth
Right.
Nick
So, so, so I think it's an SL55.
Filippo
Yeah, probably. Probably. Can I talk about a car that I drove recently?
Kenneth
Absolutely.
Filippo
All right. I drove an Asarten Virage all around Atlanta. I, we, we were at. As we talked about last week, we were at Infos Petit La Mall a couple weeks ago and I got there early so I could film a video with this black Virage and then I drove it around after video I drove around because we wanted it at our event at River Road Atlanta. So I ended up putting a fair number of miles on this car. Spirited driving around the lake where we were filming a bunch of like highway transit time, a bunch of other back roads. It's such a good car. It's so good. I did not expect it to be a good car like truly. I went in with very low medium to very low expectations and it blew them away. And I think even if I'd had high expectations it would have blown them away. I'm surprised by how much I was into this car. By the way, there's a full review on the cars and bids YouTube channel and probably linked below if our producer did. So please go watch it because I think it's a good video and there's also a little James Bond esque car chase in it.
Nick
The video turned out amazing. It's so fun to watch you experience cars like this. Cuz it's like, not initially your jam, but you get so into it that.
Filippo
Like, it surprises me.
Nick
It's fun seeing the car win you over in a way like that.
Filippo
I really did. I did not think that I would leave wanting an asar.
Nick
We also all walked away being like, yeah, that is actually a Filippo car. Like, I can't explain why, but it is absolutely a Filippo car.
Filippo
Go.
Kenneth
It's like, it's. How do I put this?
Filippo
It's brown. Black, which is my other car album is.
Kenneth
Yeah, you do. Not just the color. Like, it is like a. I don't know, it's. You wanted a Ferrari, but you held back.
Filippo
I've never. There's never been a single Ferrari that I wanted.
Kenneth
Exactly. But if you did, which. Because you wouldn't buy this either. But if you.
Nick
Falling short car.
Kenneth
This is the falling short car a little bit. But I think, genuinely, I think that the Vira is a fantastic car. That engine is.
Filippo
The engine is. It's really the ending engine is the point. But then it handles better than you'd expect and it drives generally better than you'd expect.
Kenneth
The chassis is incredibly stiff and, like, by design. I'm not saying the ride is. It's a very capable car. And the verages are really overlooked because they're only produced for a single model year. Not that many people bought them. And it became the next version of the DB9, in essence. But they are really great. I got to ride around with you in it a little bit. And it's just that.
Filippo
Better than you think.
Kenneth
So nice.
Filippo
Can I tell one story about the video? So there's a little James Bond esque scene in the video because our producer, Sean, there were three cars. I'm going to go give a very behind the scenes story here.
Kenneth
All right.
Filippo
I'm going to give a very behind the scenes little glimpse into shooting a car. In this video. We were filming around lake roads. We had this car. Our camera guy who works on our team standing had his E34 535i.
Nick
Yep.
Filippo
And then we had a Honda Civic rental car. That was a great car. Honda Civic hatchback. Sean was. Sean, our producer, was behind us in the Civic. He was like, you know, I think that I can get a great shot of the two cars kind of chasing each other through some back roads. It'll feel very James Bond esque. Mount a camera to the front of the Civic. You guys drive down this road, have some fun, and I'll film it. There's a single shot that was usable from when Sean was filming Sean decided to, for the entirety of that drive, stay three corners behind for untold reasons. And our editor, Stanley, did a phenomenal job of making it look like. We used it, I think, to. To. To appease Sean. But it's a really beautiful video regardless.
Nick
It really is a beautiful video.
Kenneth
What a great place to drive that car. You know, it reminds me very much of, like, the. The Vanquish s. Our. The vanquish S1. The press picture that were taken in, like, a woods, but driving beautiful, sweeping roads, like that's what you want to do in an Aston. Like, that's what it's for, and I'm glad you got to experience that. Does this make you want to experience other.
Sean
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Filippo
It legitimately kind of does.
Nick
Wow.
Kenneth
Really?
Nick
Really?
Filippo
Also the part of film that's got through the same road, like through the gray road, many times, and it just got better and better and better.
Kenneth
Wow. Well, good.
Filippo
I'm surprisingly into the Assassin. I'll make stunned by it.
Kenneth
Get one.
Nick
I'll make you a pact. If you get one, I'll get a rapid and I'll wrap it the same color, and you and I can go around.
Filippo
You'll wrap your. Yes, Rapid.
Kenneth
Wrap your.
Nick
Well, I assume the Rapid didn't come in such tasteful colors, but if it did, it would be.
Filippo
You should consider rapid. You got two kids.
Nick
One right now.
Filippo
Stradman has one right now.
Kenneth
Are you just gonna buy cars from YouTubers? Is that gonn?
Nick
I think, you know, it's 28. The Mercy technically came from cultivated collector who's a YouTuber. Sure. There was one other car that came from a YouTuber that I can't remember. Oh, I wanted to buy Ed Bullion's sv. So, yeah, I kind of do. Like, I might just slip into Stradman's DMs.
Filippo
Just so you know, 122 million people have YouTube accounts, so I think there's a good chance. Buy it from youtuber28.250 for is the lowest I think we've sold.
Kenneth
No.
Nick
Yeah, the repeats are a.
Filippo
Buy, buy, go buy that. Get rid of your kind.
Nick
I mean, Stradman just showed, like, a random dealer in Idaho and paid, like, 35 for it.
Kenneth
And they were thrilled.
Nick
Yeah, they were thrilled to get rid of.
Filippo
Go buy that. This is.
Nick
They're. They're perfect for a dealership to have for, like, two months as a magnet.
Filippo
To get people in.
Nick
And then they realize no one actually wants to buy it. It just test drives and, like, random cold calls.
Filippo
This is what.
Kenneth
Yeah, small Dealers in the Midwest buy this when they see it at, like, one of the auctions at Manheim. And then. Then they have it on their. Their lot. And I was like, man. And the owner of the deal drives it. And then, yes, it's probably.
Filippo
It's a gorgeous car experience. I'd want one.
Nick
It's the official, like, car of, like, a politician needs hush money. And then that's who they. That's what they give to keep the person quiet for whatever they give. A repeat. Yeah, they don't give a repeater mirage like a. A used one that looks like it's all the money, but really it was only like 35k of campaign contributions. Like, that's. That's the ultimate hush money.
Filippo
I would love for a commenter to explain to me what I put. Nick is saying I. I like. I need to get somebody else mentioned.
Kenneth
Politicians and hush money. Is there something you want to.
Nick
I'm reading a book right now by Carl Heisen in which he gives his extramarital affair a Aston Martin as a way of keeping her cool.
Filippo
It all makes sense.
Nick
So maybe that's where that's coming from.
Kenneth
Dbs. That's what I want. It's beautiful.
Filippo
Also, you can get a DBs and a DB9 with a manual for brief periods of time. And that's interesting. Although the automatic didn't feel antithetical to the 12 experience.
Kenneth
Canon statement. I've never driven an automatic DBS, only the manual ones driven two. And I actually was surprised. The clutch buy point is very high and it's very vague and it's like, it's not actually that nice to use, but. Do you want to shift your own gears or not?
Nick
What's the price?
Kenneth
I want to shift my own gears. Huge difference. So, yeah, I don't know, but, yeah, I would love an Aston Martin for you. But you just did you say. I say this to fleet, but it just goes, I don't really want to.
Filippo
Buy anything, despite the fact that I very much do. But I like that car so much more than I thought it would try.
Kenneth
Truly nice.
Nick
I'll make you a deal on an Ornage.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
So good. Without that. I'll sell it to you for what I paid.
Filippo
I'll trade you a Fiat 500, a bar cabriolet.
Nick
It's probably a fair trade.
Filippo
That's an offer for you.
Kenneth
Probably a fair trade.
Filippo
All right, Kenneth, what do you got going on?
Kenneth
So this weekend, I'm very excited, but by the time you're listening to this, I will be in Mexico for the Mexican Grand Prix. Our friend Kevin is having a bachelor party.
Nick
Congratulations, Kevin.
Kenneth
Unfortunately you couldn't go. I don't think you could go.
Nick
Sadly not I.
Kenneth
Formula one is what you want to see. Anyway. Doug couldn't go.
Nick
Not allowed in the country. Country.
Kenneth
That's right. You've been taking that bribe money.
Nick
That's right.
Filippo
He actually has a. Has a NAS repeat parked in Mexico.
Kenneth
From when a politician covered in dust.
Filippo
That explains all of it.
Nick
Wrapped in purplish brown black.
Filippo
Right?
Kenneth
Exactly. But I'm very excited. I've never been to Mexico City before. Everybody raves about it. I'm really excited to go. But. And I. This is my second Formula one race in person of the year.
Filippo
I know. It's incredible.
Kenneth
Is the other one. And of course the Formula one season is getting more exciting.
Nick
Are you watching at the time? Same year.
Kenneth
Oh, absolutely.
Nick
Last year you seemed so down on Ferrari SL life.
Kenneth
That you were so down on Ferrari life. But that. That's being a Ferrari fan. Yeah. But yes. This year is like. It's so close between the two McLaren drivers. And Max Verstappen seems to be catching up quite a bit.
Nick
I know.
Kenneth
So I. You never know. I would never count Max out. It still seems likely. Likely there'll be a McLaren. I think there's like a 40 point gap or so between him and getting there. But who knows? It could come down to the end. But Mexico City is a great. Has a great track.
Filippo
Yeah. The.
Kenneth
The track is. Is won elevation. Which is interesting. It's different challenge for the cars.
Filippo
Yeah. Me city is surprisingly high.
Kenneth
Surprisingly high elevation. But I will be there. So if you see me, come say hello. I don't bite. Would love to see people. I. It was the exact same thing when I was at Spa. Always happy to see people and just can't wait to watch some formula.
Filippo
Can't believe you're seeing two races in person this year. Also. Mexico City is an incredible city.
Kenneth
I'm very excited.
Filippo
It's a beautiful city. And also during Formula one weekend. Maybe there's cool cars too.
Kenneth
Yeah.
Filippo
Without it. Honestly there aren't. But maybe that we.
Kenneth
But maybe. But I'll. I'll look for like a Lupo for you. I'll take a picture.
Sean
Yeah.
Filippo
Too. But only a first gen loop.
Kenneth
Only a first gen loop.
Nick
The whole group you're going with are car people too. Right? Yeah.
Kenneth
Absolutely. So it's a. I think we've done this before for my friend Sam's or our friend Sam's bachelor party. We went to the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal and that was a ton of fun. So if you're. If you need bachelor party ideas, go to Formula Formula one races are awesome. And specifically ones outside of the country because they're a lot less expensive. And then you get to see a cool city, you get to do car things. And there's always Formula one stuff in the city as well. The teams have different stuff set up so you can go and check out the cars up close, which is always a lot of fun. So highly recommend it to anybody. Needs a bachelor party idea.
Nick
What did you do for your bachelor party?
Filippo
I hung out with some friends the night before my wedding.
Nick
All right, what did I.
Kenneth
Don't talk about.
Nick
Ask what you did.
Filippo
We can't go down. We can't go down this road.
Nick
No. It was either a track day or go karting. I can't remember, but same thing. All the car buddies and we did.
Kenneth
Car stuff, so that's surprisingly wholesome.
Nick
Yes.
Kenneth

Kenneth
Yes.
Filippo
Which is a few months ago I talked about the fact that courtesy of expel I have expel tint on my car.
Nick
Oh yeah.
Filippo
On the Volkswagen DJI and it's like UV blocking and I keep driving around in cars that get hot inside and then I go home and my car doesn't and that's really nice. So I do recommend it.
Kenneth
You know it's the thing that because.
Filippo
Like I keep driving other people's cars like rental cars cause I've traveled a of ton ton recently and they all get so hot and you're driving around and it's hot and I now might actually pay to do it on my other cars. It kind of is because I don't modify my cars.
Nick
Yeah and tinted modification.
Kenneth
We don't even include tinted modification anymore in cars and bids so that your.
Nick
Your Fiat is not modified because it's louder than any modified car I've ever.
Filippo
Heard from the factory. It's shocking. All my cars are stock man.
Kenneth
I'm glad that you said this because yeah also like you can the heat rejection film you can have I believe they do just a translucent one. So if you don't like any color.
Filippo
Tinted mine's like minorly tinted which is.
Kenneth
Yeah well within the legal requirements. But I'm gl it does make A big difference in like especially on those long road trips in sunny places which you tend to drive to.
Filippo
I know a ton but it just. I didn't think it would make a difference cuz there's tint on my wagon but that's like regular t good tint. 12 years ago this is why you.
Kenneth
Don'T cheap out on tint flu.
Filippo
It turns out. It turns out. This is why you don't cheap out on tint.
Kenneth
Yeah. There you are.
Nick
I have one more top card too. I'm going to be not at the bachelor party sadly, but I am going to Radwood this weekend as the Port of Los Angeles in the multipla. So if anyone in the LA area wants to see the multipla also come say hi. I am friendly. I got some surf style baggy pants then a multipla shirt. So I won best or radest truck I think was the category with my Celine XB8 a couple years ago. I'm not banking on a win this weekend but I also feel like it's going to be a solid contender. So I like it. And then it's my birthday Sunday so this is the day before my birthday say and I feel like the judges kind of take that into account. So Art or any of the Radwood people, if you're listening, you know this is a shout out here and let's scratch my back, I scratch yours kind of thing.
Filippo
Scratch your back by giving you the.
Nick
Give me the award and then, and then I'll mention you on the podcast for free.
Kenneth
Nobody's ever heard of Radwood before. That's right. Very, very rare.
Nick
Hagerty have been mentioned. So I also expect a rate discount.
Filippo
I like that strategy of saying it before you asked for something.
Kenneth
Yes, right. That's. Well, Nick is a shoot first, ask questions later kind of guy and if.
Nick
There'S a problem we'll get you hush money in the form of an Aston Martin Virage.
Filippo
God, here's expensive hush money.
Nick
A related note, last weekend was cars and copters. There was a helicopter accident which was really sad.
Filippo
Nobody a couple of injuries but the.
Nick
Kid got pinned under which there's a gofundme for. And like having a kid myself, I'm sure that's traumatic even if he's physically. Okay.
Filippo
Okay.
Nick
However, the next day during the actual event there was some Streets Takeover style burnouts and people flocking. And then yesterday it was announced that South OC cars and coffee, which is a huge one at an outlet mall, they've had a working relationship with the city for so long. They have permits. All of this. They're doing everything right. They hire security. They're really careful about it and considerate. But even then the burble tunes and the. The takeover crowd has made it rowdier and rowdier. So it's being threatened to being shut down. Then there was also slammed enough Gatlinburg. It got shut down the last day.
Filippo
It's 202i vibes.
Nick
There is a trend where we can't have nice things because people get a little carried away showing things off. It went from an occasional Mustang taking out a group of people to entire events. So please, if you're watching this. We love cars. We love the sound of them. We love burning burnouts. Yada yada, yada. Stop ruining the events if there are a ton of people there. All you're doing is risking the fun for everyone. And it's not cool. Go do that. You know. In an abandoned parking lot or at a track.
Filippo
Track.
Nick
Yeah. Or somewhere else that you're not spoiling the fun for everyone.
Filippo
Definitely. Like don't go ruin it for everybody else. But these are still public roads where there's other people driving, where there's rules to be followed for good.
Nick
And most of the crashes are you hitting a random pedestrian or onlooker and not even an well.
Kenneth
And you're just irritating everyone also that like it's not. It's not cool. I've said this before. Like when I see someone in like a really loud car, like rip away at Carson Coffee, it's like I just roll my eyes. And all of us collectively at the same time do that. No one likes it. Like we want to talk about cars and engage like in a very positive way in car culture. But to the exact point you said if it's going to ruin it because other people live there and we share the community with everybody. It's. That's huge. Negative. Can just have some restraint.
Filippo
Can I feel a bit. I would never actually.
Kenneth
Your Fiat might be too loud.
Nick
Borderline.
Filippo
And I am mindful of that. I'm going to extend it further. Be a reasonable human when driving too. A few like a month or two ago my wife was driving home from Northern Arizona. Her family lives out there. And you drive through a town called Skull Valley, which is like a lot of like twisty roads because you're going down a mountain and no service. She noticed a car coming the other way that was like crossing across the line. She was able to get off the the road. They then the Car that was passing her was like some regular sedan. Then lost control and like, turned around the intersection. A car behind my wife slammed into them. There's no service for about 20 minutes. So my wife kept driving to, like, call 911. She then did, like, waited for ambulances to show up, et cetera. But somebody did die in that accident. All because somebody was driving quite irresponsibly on public roads.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
Don't. Other people's lives are legitimate, ultimately at risk as a result of your actions. So just don't do that. Find a track, go to track day. Learn how to drive more, more effectively. Don't use public roads as your experimentation.
Kenneth
In California, we see it a lot like people go to the canyons, in particular across the double yellows, which is a big no, no. Like, go out and enjoy the roads and have fun, but, like, do it with feverish.
Nick
Did you see that 4, 5, 8 that crossed the double yellow at the tail of the dragon?
Kenneth
Yeah.
Nick
Someone posted on Instagram classic, classic, 458. Meaning they are so young, they think a 458 is a classic car. I'm like, oh, my God, I feel so old. However. Yeah, it slammed into U Haul. It was entirely the Ferrari driver's fault.
Filippo
Just don't do that on public roads where it's not just your life at risk. Be mindful that there's other people that are also needing to get places that are driving. Don't want to put them there.
Nick
Have fun, be responsible, important psa. Don't die.
Filippo
Don't die.
Kenneth
Thank you.
Nick
It gets in the way of your car hobby.
Filippo
If you die and also if you kill somebody, it is bad.
Nick
Yeah, that's.
Filippo
Don't do that.
Nick
Then you need to buy an Aston Martin garage for the family that was affected.
Kenneth
Well, speaking of buying and selling cars, we now move on to the market report, which is brought to you this.
Nick
Week by the Aston Martin Virage.
Kenneth
By the Aston Martin Virage, currently live.
Filippo
On cars and bids.
Kenneth
Exactly. Is currently live on cars and bits. Filippo, you had some thoughts on.
Filippo
I can't believe that transition. I gotta. Gotta reflect on that transition.
Kenneth
I know I tried to get it outta there as quickly as I could and I think I saved that458 driver. Never couldn't.
Nick
Nice. All right, pull up.
Filippo
We sold the V70R recently. That is. I think that's one of the car. I know.
Kenneth
Oh, it's such a.
Filippo
That has to be the highest. It's the highest V70R result that we've had. I think it's higher than any other public auction one too. It was not a super low mile long but it was an incredible spec. Yeah flash green over over at a comma which is that this like wild green blue over kind of know what brown.
Kenneth
Orange is brown.
Filippo
Yeah it's with the Spaceball 6 speed manual. It is like the V70R that you would want. It's the right color combination. If you're an insane human who likes insane color combinations. Yeah it's a manual. It's really special. This is a highish mile car scroll down 40,000 miles. It has some mods but it's still got an insane result because the right spec matters. Regular V70Rs automatic ones are not worth much correctly so if we're being honest but the right one really really really is and clearly the market is continuing to reward these. This is the highest result that I've seen. Clearly there's still a lot of interest in these cars and and these I think will continue to appreciate.
Nick
Imagine I mean seeing this is one where you take a picture you send.
Filippo
It to the whole group 100 I.
Nick
Would get out of animus everyone either thumbs up or heart set like that is.
Filippo
I would get out of my car to check if like I would stop in traffic get out of my car to check the six do you think.
Kenneth
The guy who sold this like I mean the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires it looks like on this thing. Do you think this on it's like ah these are so expensive. This car isn't worth much and was rewarded.
Filippo
I'll be honest.
Kenneth
Okay. I think this a car you it is if you know. You know card but I wouldn't imagine many of these are in non enthusiast.
Filippo
Hands at this point.
Nick
Especially in that color. Cuz nor would not want that color the Spaceball circle.
Kenneth
You ever driven a Spaceball?
Sean
No.
Kenneth
I haven't either. I'd love to.
Filippo
I've driven a bunch of V70 non.
Kenneth
No V70Rs I love well you have to. We have to find we got to find a video on cuz let's show.
Filippo
You if we had a flash screen or I'll come a V70R in this office. I would have it would be the best day of my life.
Kenneth
I'll see if I can make that happen my wife and say etc exactly. We'll see if we it went for.
Nick
More than a repeat.
Filippo
Yeah yeah and it honestly I'd rather have this than a repeat. Yeah and that says a lot because I do now all of a sudden kind of Want to repeat in case I ever need to bribe.
Nick
I don't think this will get you out of political turmoil as effectively but.
Filippo
It would for me if if like I create political turmoil for a politician and they need to give me a car. This is not a bad.
Kenneth
When I think of you, turmoil is the word that comes to mind.
Filippo
I know also I can't be bribed so.
Kenneth
Right. That's right. You couldn't bribe him with a cookie if you wanted to.
Filippo
He just.
Kenneth
He won't accept it. He will accept lettuce though. He does like that. So actually that's how he gets you different kind of.
Filippo
All right, move on.
Nick
Filippo can't be bribed and that expel read there was absolutely not compensated for right?
Filippo
No, only an expel tent and I legitimately am enjoying it.
Nick
Yeah. Yeah.
Kenneth
I wanted to talk about this car. So we sold a Dodge Viper recently. Now I Vipers have been kind of a weird spot recently. Like we had this GTS that was bid to 85,500 which felt a little. That's a deal honestly.
Filippo
Which is.
Kenneth
Is a deal. Yeah.
Filippo
I did not realize that any. We usually there's not that many 5th gens.
Kenneth
Not that many 5th gen and most.
Filippo
Of the ones that we sell are really like quite nice. Or like the Spider ta the Viper ta ta the track attack or the zcr. That is interesting. Interesting.
Kenneth
But yeah I thought that that GTS result was interesting but this underscores how high the Viper goes. I don't think people fully understand that like the later edition ACRs like are 300 plus thousand dollar cars. I mean it's more than your mercy for that. I mean it's pretty impressive now of course it was the end of the line. Currently it's more than your mercy.
Nick
I'm hoping for that number but I'm not getting my hopes up too.
Filippo
I will say this is the highest ACR extreme result that I've seen. Sorry there was one higher one but it had 386 miles same.
Kenneth
Now of course this does relate to the color. This is striker purple which is a really.
Nick
The color is amazing.
Kenneth
Incredible looking purple and it was a one owner car 8000 miles that sort of stuff But I it. I kind of forgotten how expensive these cars are. They are very highly sought after which again further underscores how much of a value like the third gen is to me. Like we sold.
Nick
We sold a.
Kenneth
A friend of cars and bids Steve we sold his Viper for 50 grand which I thought was a very strong result but Even so, I still think this is very cool. I'm happy that the fifth gens are worth so much. Especially the ACRs. If you're looking for value, I really think the third gen, like really, really.
Nick
Really consider it that purple one too. I have to say. Anyone, someone, anytime someone posts a garage like that, you just kind of like, you know, you know it was kept well.
Kenneth
This is a.
Nick
You know, you're buying from a reasonable person. But like look, that garage is incredible. Incredible. I know you clean epoxy on the ground.
Filippo
They're actually a storage facility. Just so you know people who help their. Their clients sell cars. I. There was one legitimately. This is one of the highest ACR sales. I did see one that was more but that had under 500 miles when I was clearly there being a. I am glad the 5th gen. That's an insane car.
Kenneth
Yeah.
Filippo
Just plainly an insane car. I'm glad people are appreciating it totally and using it.
Kenneth
There's nothing like it. We, we very likely will will not see a car like this again. 8.4 liter nav 10. Largest engine put in a car since World War II. But an automobile like a car car, not like a.
Nick
Is that real? Are you making that up?
Kenneth
No, that's true. Largest displacement engine put in the car since the Second World War.
Nick
Wow. What happened in World War II?
Kenneth
All right, all right.
Nick
Blaming with regard to regions.
Kenneth
You know what, Nick, open a book.
Nick
I just got a bad leg crumb.
Kenneth
Yep. God, you really are about to turn 41.
Nick
Hey, don't out my age.
Filippo

Nick
Yes, that's on my list.
Filippo
I know. I'm with you on frothing.
Kenneth
Oh, B7RS4. Now this famously the RS4 Avant was not sold for the North American market. It was sold in Europe and other parts of the world, but not here. This one is. This one was brought over. It's in Canada currently because I believe it's what, 15 years.
Filippo
Yeah. Can't be imported yet.
Nick
Lucky Canuck.
Kenneth
Yeah. So it can't be brought into the United States. But look at that. This. I mean this is perfect. It's the one. This is exactly the one you want. Sprint Blue.
Nick
Right?
Kenneth
Is the name color. Yeah. Sprint Blue. The wagon. This is just so cool, man. When these are imported portable, you really should consider.
Nick
I'm like I'm. I'm convert. Considering converting one because I want it so badly.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
I also just kind of wonder like could you find the right day at a DMV where they just don't really know.
Filippo
I'm not advocating for this because it is illegal.
Nick
But you.
Filippo
It is. But like absolutely could get.
Nick
This feels like a victimless crime. You could get away with or get someone an Aston Martin Virage. If you get caught.
Filippo
There is no doubt you could get this titled. It would not be here legally. The feds could impound it at literally any moment.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
And take it from you. I want to be very clear. You should not do this. Right.
Kenneth
On the most listened to automotive podcast on the Internet.
Filippo
You should not do this. I do. I think you could get away with it. Yeah.
Nick
Of course. I think you probably could for some amount of time.
Filippo
You could. Now don't do it, please.
Kenneth
Now for a bunch of reasons. There are other things you could do. You could buy this another country and register there and you can bring it in for a certain period of time.
Nick
It's a year or two years. Remember. Exactly. It then does have to go back.
Kenneth
He has to leave.
Nick
You could in theory and people have been doing this with R34s and such before they're legally importable. But it'd be a lot of work.
Kenneth
But a lot of work.
Filippo
Or just build one. Or.
Nick
Or you could build a museum. What's stopping us from making this a museum? A lot.
Filippo
Wow. It's an interesting question. We could become the next Lane Motor Museum.
Kenneth
I know we let they. They have the best.
Nick
The San Diego Automotive Museum is like walking distance from here. So, like, let's park, partner up, collab.
Kenneth
That's true. I do know the curator over there.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenneth
Regardless.
Filippo
Such a cool car. Also, the only mods, thankfully, are KW coilovers, which is a acceptable mod on that car.
Nick
Yeah, the DRC is known to leak a little bit. The. The dynamic ride control you get is the magnetic ride and a head unit.
Filippo
Which is a reasonable one. Like, this is the. The one Sprint blue, blue interior.
Nick
There's been a few that I've seen come for sale in Canada. Obviously, even getting it to Canada with 15 years, it's technically legal, but it's not a common thing to do do. And a lot of the ones you do see end up getting pretty modified by, like, hardcore Audi VW people. So it is nice to see one unmolested in the right spec.
Filippo
I was in Toronto a couple weeks ago for a wedding, and I spent the entire time looking for rare JDM cars that hadn't. That had been imported there that aren't legal for us yet. I saw none.
Kenneth
I'm not surprised.
Filippo
There were other. There were a lot of cars that were only sold in. That were not sold in the US but were sold in Canada. But the. Those don't count.
Kenneth
I'm not surprised.
Nick
It's funny, I. I'm in, like, a bunch of RS4 groups, and there'll be people in, like, the UK and in Europe that are just parting them out for, like, minor accidents because it's like a $15,000 car over there. And then we're all like, oh, my gosh. I would, like, become a museum and pay off a politician to have this car here. It's crazy.
Filippo
If you buy, obviously you can't. For another. This needs to be 25, right? Yeah. Okay. You can't forget another eight years.
Nick
But 32, I think, is 2032.
Filippo
Yeah, I guess we're 2022.
Kenneth
And then depending on.
Filippo
Regardless, it's the whole thing, you can have another six years. Once you do, I will buy an RS4 convertible to match it.
Kenneth
What?
Nick
All right.
Filippo
The RS4 cabriolet of this generation is the rarest RS4.
Nick
That's right.
Kenneth
I understand this. You're not getting one of them.
Filippo
I would.
Nick
By then they'll be like 4. 4 grand.
Kenneth
We sold a couple RS4.
Filippo
They. They have held their value. Yeah.
Nick
Which is shocking because it's not.
Filippo
They're the rarest RS4.
Nick
It's the rarest and also least desirable.
Filippo
But they're the rarest RS4.
Kenneth
Why did they build them?
Filippo
Go back to the one before that. Sold for 43.
Nick
This was a. I mean remember the A4 had one before the two door convertible as well. That's just a thing they were doing.
Filippo
That's a $43,000 car apparently.
Kenneth
Yeah, well, this one was.
Nick
A lot of them have like no miles because the sedans were used as dailies. The convertibles were like you lived somewhere with inclement weather and like you wanted to extend your summer car a little bit into the fall and spring. But like it really wasn't like a.
Filippo
Daily six speed manual, all wheel drive, V8.
Kenneth
It is cool. We saw one at Road Atlanta. It was, it was. I haven't seen one in years.
Filippo
Years.
Kenneth
But it was. That is a very cool crop. But we have to move it on. We have to move it on to questions, questions, questions, questions.
Filippo
I'm going to take the questions, I'm going to read out the questions.
Kenneth
Filippo's going to read the questions. But if you want to ask us a question, you go to the community tab. There'll be a post under this car pod. You click there and you can ask questions that Filippo, Nick, Doug, our producer, Sean, any of us, we will answer them. And we have a lot of good questions.
Filippo
I want to be really transparent. Normally Doug selects the questions. He's gone this week. So our producer has selected a subset of questions. Questions and he has added a note next to one that says you must do this in all caps.
Nick
Is it about Al?
Filippo
So we're going to find out. We're going to find out.
Kenneth
It's about the tip Frog from.
Filippo
From Cardi carts. Rank your top five cars from the Fast and the Furious franchise. Rank your top five cars in the Fast and the Furious franchise. The Lightning. The Ford SVT Lightning.
Nick
Yeah, that's a great one.
Kenneth
Put that up there.
Filippo
The Fiero, the of space. That happens. I think I'm putting the three.
Kenneth
I'm putting the, the super and the 355 together as a pair.
Filippo
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kenneth
Deserve to be on there.
Filippo
The gli, you'll choose the Jetta gli.
Nick
It is an icon.
Filippo
Is it a GLI or is it not A generation that had a. It's.
Nick
It's a Mark IV Jedi. I don't know.
Filippo
Right. With Trim y Suki S 2000.
Nick
The R34 that Paul actually owned.
Filippo
The 3000. GTVR4 that I think is in the spring.
Kenneth
Second one.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
Isn't there a 300 TV or 4 convertible. In the second one, I feel like there was the Charger from the.
Kenneth
I've only seen the thing. I've only seen the first one, so I can't really. The second.
Nick
I think we've succeeded some. No, this. We're just naming all the cards. All the cards. You're supposed to rank them.
Filippo
I believe.
Nick
Or pick.
Filippo
I think I need to do some preparation. Can you.
Nick
How come the Lycan's not in your list?
Filippo
The what?
Nick
The L. What it was. It was a car with a lot of angles. I think if you buy it, like jumped over a vehicle.
Filippo
Oh, that car, the one that.
Nick
That flew out of a building for whatever reason. Had one at one point. That was like a.
Kenneth
Wasn't it a shell or something? Did it. It didn't run.
Filippo
You guys saw the scene, right? It drove out of a building.
Nick
Yeah. And to another building. As you do.
Filippo
These are all real things. Everything that we've said is a real thing. If you don't know the franchise, these are all real things that happen.
Nick
The franchise has gotten exponentially worse each episode. But yeah, sales have also gotten exponentially higher. So. Yeah, perhaps I'm an outlier there.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
There's also. Was it two or three? That the. It was the Evo and then the Eclipse.
Filippo
Yeah, that too.
Nick
It was like the bad Eclipse. Like that was so bad.
Filippo
But the Evo was good.
Nick
There was a Selene Viper.
Filippo
There was a third gen Viper in.
Nick
The second movie, the Saleen S281 Hollywood Edition that got crushed by two SUV or semi trucks at the beginning.
Filippo
Nice.
Nick
There's been a lot of good cars.
Filippo
There have been. I have seen all the movies incredibly.
Nick
Wow.
Kenneth
Wow.
Filippo
My wife and I went through a thing of watching all of them over years. The course of like six months or a year. But only the first three stick in my mind. And the fifth one. The fifth one I consider to be maybe the best one. They steal a safe out of a police off police department in Brazil.
Kenneth
It's pretty good. But then again, people steal some stuff. The Louvre this week, so a little more.
Filippo
There's also a Volkswagen Tuareg in that one. And that's a pretty good car.
Kenneth
Yeah. I don't. I don't know why I haven't watched them. I just.
Filippo
You haven't seen any of them. This is the first one you need to watch. The second, the third, the fifth. Second, the third, the fifth, and then the seventh. Because a car drives out of a building to another building.
Nick
When Paul passed. He drives a White Supra as the roads depart. I cried in that. Literally in the theater. But like that's definitely got to be number one.
Kenneth
I think the Supra has to be number one if you're going to pick. I know this doesn't really answer the question, but you're going to pick one.
Nick
I think the Supra, it's Supra and Skyline because it really brought the import tuner culture to the main dream.
Filippo
Really did.
Kenneth
Super.
Filippo
And Skylines are popular because of that movie.
Nick
Influential wise. I do agree the. The Mark 4 Jetta is like oddly recognizable. Frankie Mun bought it famously really after. And had.
Filippo
He's a race car driver now.
Nick
Yeah. Oh yeah. In nascar. Right? Or maybe Sprint, I think. The Sprint Cup Series.
Kenneth
Yeah.
Nick
Funny enough speaking of bachelor parties, my wife was at a bachelorette party in Arizona. He was dining there with his crew and he paid for the entire party's dinner meal.
Filippo
Wow.
Nick
Just like no eye, like barely eye contact like you said, congratulations, I bought your. And it was like 15 girls like all eating dinner at some fancy restaurant.
Filippo
By the way, it was a Mark 3 story.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenneth
Yeah.
Nick
So he's like a real good guy.
Filippo
Can't believe you had the wrong generation for Volkswagen Audi products.
Nick
I. I'm more of an Audi Filipo.
Kenneth
It happens sometimes. People make mistakes.
Nick
It's okay.
Kenneth
Give us another question.
Filippo
Yeah. Can I give you a different one?
Kenneth
Yeah, absolutely.
Filippo
Next question from. Wow. I know that most of you are married. Nick and I are. Kenan maybe proposing soon. If you were hypothetically single, which cars would be a serious red flag if they were owned by a potential partner. Also, if you were giving advice to a female friend looking for a partner, what cars that a car guy might own would be red flags?
Kenneth
Man. Cars that someone owned were a red flag.
Filippo
I think for me there's a lot of cars that are bad cars that people might own. They're not three red flags. Cuz they may have made sense at that time. Now if they modified cars in like a horrible way that I don't like, that would be a bit of a red flag.
Kenneth
BZ4X.
Filippo
No, that's not a red flag. They. They. I would question their responsibility. I would question their decision making. I would question a lot of things. So it's like a. Yeah, it's a red flag. It's good point.
Kenneth
Yeah. Isn't that what that means?
Filippo
If you just buy a bad car when you had better options? That's a little bit of a red flag about your. Your ability to be a responsible Human.
Kenneth
Right. Let's. What other.
Filippo
There's a lot of cars that I would tell if a female friend was starting to date somebody that would be.
Kenneth
Like any Nissan product, basically.
Filippo
No.
Nick
Any.
Kenneth
Well, there's some good Nissan.
Filippo
Any modified M4.
Kenneth
Yeah, yeah. Slam that. You know what, that. But then, but see then someone is kind of interested in cars. I don't think we would agree on things. But I think a 4 series.
Filippo
Fine. An M4 may be fine. A modified M4 competition, not fine.
Kenneth
Or you can woman up like Emily and get an M3 CRT. But.
Nick
Well, if you have an M3 CRT.
Filippo
That'S a green flag.
Kenneth
Yeah, that's a very green flag.
Nick
I'll answer this in a way that won't be controversial and get cut and then have to be re filmed hypothetically speaking in that. And I've talked to my wife about this before. I don't expect my partner to be into cars or have good taste in cars or like they can be car agnostic. So really I wouldn't judge or care what car they drove as long as they're cool with me having a car hobby. Like sure, they could have a cooler car than me. They could have the. They could have a Prius. I, I wouldn't really care too much. I would maybe be worried about if they had a car that was like extremely high maintenance in a way that like a G wagon kind of vibe of like I want to be like a car. Oh, like a materialistic person. Like for you.
Filippo
Yeah, that.
Nick
That new Maybach convertible that has the Maybach logos on the hood. Like that would scare me.
Filippo
I would marry somebody that has that car.
Nick
That's true. They would be wealthy.
Filippo
They'd be wealthy. Keep that in mind.
Nick
The dowry would be really beneficial.
Kenneth
Yes.
Filippo
And then.
Nick
Right.
Kenneth
Yeah. But then you have to go through a divorce because it's going to happen inevitably.
Filippo
But then, but then you might get something out of it.
Kenneth
Of course you would. Look at the financial.
Filippo
I do think to that point if somebody made a decision decision there's a. Cars for most people are just like a financial decision. It's the second largest purchase you make other than your house. Right. Probably if somebody made like a really irresponsible decision. A BZ4X is on that line. But like if they're like incredibly underwater on a. But they bought a bunch of Jeep Liberties and capturing them in and kept being more underwater and financing. Point 30. That's a bit of a red flag because I worry about their financial habits right now. Owning a Jeep Liberty on its own. Might just be that you're from the Midwest, you know, like, Depends.
Kenneth
Yeah. Now, so on the flip side of things for, like, I. I do have friends or women who are. Are single.
Filippo
If.
Kenneth
If the guys, if they're dating someone, he's into cars and I find out what car it is. There are certain ones that I'm a little nervous about. Any Challenger. Wow. Mustangs. I don't know There. I don't know. Camaros. Like Camaros. Kind of a red flag card of me.
Filippo
I stand by M4 comps that are modded.
Kenneth
M4 comp is actually a pretty good baseline. That's a pretty good one. Anything thing that I will say if they. Like, he's interested in cars and I ask him a question about cars, and the guy doesn't know anything. Like, you can tell. You can tell when someone doesn't actually know anything about cars. That, that to me is more of.
Nick
If you fake badged or up Badged car. Red flag. Good up. Badging a drift charm hanging from your rear tow hook. Red flag. Missing your front tow hook cover. Hypothetically. Red flag.
Kenneth
Red flag. Yeah. Fallout and convenience.
Filippo
Mismatched hub.
Nick
Yes.
Filippo
Oh, that's for a car that has mismatched tires. Oh, sure. That just kind of indicates that you're not attentive.
Kenneth
You're a lack of detail person. And I don't, I don't have any tolerance for that.
Filippo
All of my single friends that drive Ferrari 360s are a little questionable, but that's specific to me.
Kenneth
I think that might be specific to you. Yeah. I don't know. I think some. Something in there like that. Yeah. Speaks to either their materialism or, like, you can extrapolate something more on their personality.
Nick
Rapture car. Gold. Gold or wrap of wrap or like any kind of like, bass boat level finish.
Filippo
Unless it's really good. You've been to Arizona also if you have a bass boat, that's maybe a pro. Yeah. We love all cars. And that is factoring in here, it's a little bit more about. What does that say about your.
Kenneth
I don't love all cars. Not everybody loves all cars. That's just a fact. You hate expensive cars. I don't particularly like inexpensive cars.
Filippo
Well, that's an interesting point. If you, you drive a huracan, if your friend is like meeting somebody that drives like a, like, huracan.
Kenneth
As long as it's not, like, owned to chase comas, I think we're okay. Like, like, you know, McLaren Huracans are. Yeah.
Filippo
All right.
Kenneth
I don't know, I. Ultimately it comes down more to the person themselves, less about the car that they drive. Or it should.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
The Adoli I think is a good sign.
Filippo
It's a good sign. Yeah.
Nick
I think it's a great thick and hull things. Yep.
Filippo
What about like a. A Carolina squat?
Nick
Bad sign.
Kenneth
Yeah, bad sign.
Filippo
Bad sign. All right, moving on to a question from Bear at the Control seven. You just heisted print priceless jewels from a major European museum which has maybe happened this week. What are you picking as your getaway car? Oh, cuz you need it to be quick, maneuverable, but also maybe discreet.
Kenneth
You want it to be discreet? Definitely. You want to blend in. I mean in this country it'd be a Tesla of some kind. They're gazillion Model Threes.
Filippo
That's a great point. Because they fly under the radar, they're silent, they're fast.
Nick
Yes.
Filippo
And in Southern California nobody pays attention to model three.
Kenneth
You can get. I mean a white Model three because they are everywhere.
Filippo
It's not bad.
Nick
Except isn't this the plot of the Italian Job?
Kenneth
It's the plot of every. It's Ocean's thirteen, the Italian Job, they.
Filippo
Were stealing money from a guy's house. He, for what it's worth, had a NASA Martin V12.
Kenneth
I guess it was Ocean's 12. They stole the Faberge egg. I think almost really similar plot line to.
Filippo
But in Europe we choose some kind of small hatchback. It's France, it's Paris, everybody drives small hatchback.
Nick
I'd say a wayo cuz it can't narc on you, but it can.
Filippo
There's cameras on the inside, there's cameras on the outside. It won't go around. Emergency.
Kenneth
If you're going to pick the worst one, that is the worst. Nick's getting caught is what's going to happen.
Filippo
What if you hypothetically stole a price jewel and sold it, what would you buy? What would you sign? Because the question at the end of the Italian Job, excellent movie by the way, is what do you like?
Kenneth
Original or the remake?
Filippo
The remake. Original. Also good. They drive around Fiat's test track, top of a building. How can you not love it? Yeah. The question, like, what do you spend that money on? What would you. What would be the telltale sign that you stole a ton of money you already owned? A mercy. But it's just for some people to tell the sign, he'd own another one.
Kenneth
What's the.
Nick
It would. It would definitely be all cars.
Kenneth
It'd be all cars.
Filippo
What is the one car that you.
Kenneth
Oh yeah think of is probably for me being F50 of course but like the V is probably the one for him. But not that I would steal the priceless item of return to the people of France where it belongs.
Filippo
I would of course just invest it responsibly.
Kenneth
You invest in portfolio.
Nick
Well done wild.
Kenneth
The IRS would be looking at you.
Filippo
All right, the second question from Bear the Control 7. Which automaker that currently doesn't offer any enthusiast oriented models do you think is best positioned to launch one?
Nick
There's not many left is there?
Filippo
Who doesn't make it a performance car.
Nick
That should Toyota makes a Supra. What is Honda doesn't make the S2000 anymore.
Filippo
Specific type R though.
Kenneth
I'll say Mitsubishi had a great history of making very high performance, very cool cars. They were killing it in the 90s and early 2000s and. And it is all gone now. What do they make?
Filippo
I'm really excited for the clips Cross.
Kenneth
They need a whole new car Dr. 4 I'll go for like when turbocharging became more popular and we were losing the naturally aspirated engines and that was the way things were scoot. I mean this was like early 2010s late knots. I really felt that like that was the time that if Buick wanted to bring back a Grand national they should have and it would have been. That would have been cool.
Filippo
Buick is a good answer.
Nick
Sort of this.
Filippo
Although they only make SUVs now.
Kenneth
They only make SUVs now. But if they were going to if you work. I mean the grand national is so damn cool and they only. I mean they weren't a performance focused company but if they were going to do one bring back the grand national that'd be cool. Or bring back the Evo.
Filippo
Yeah, I do think it's a Honda to your point does make the Civic Type R and that's an enthusiast car but that's the only one I can think of that Honda makes. And I think that every other automaker, every premium automaker certainly has realized that you can make a lot of money by selling like M Sport or amg.
Kenneth
Whatever they call S line or whatever. Yeah.
Filippo
Why hasn't Honda like remade sporty ish products like they could type they would sell well with a. Because sporty with a. With a crv.
Kenneth
Honda respects the purity. They don't need to do an st. You know like a.
Filippo
They respect the purity even to okay Toyota, we talked about this a few months ago now has the next generation RAV4 has a grand model that has a suspension. Two by GR first drives were out today. I'm incredibly sad that I wasn't in Phoenix reviewing it that I wanted to legitimately. I've already had a fight today. No, pull it up. The RAV4GR. I don't even. They're making their compact SUV which is a plug in hybrid, 320 something horsepower. They're making a sporty version of it that is a apparently quite decent. Yeah, like. Like why doesn't Honda making anything sporty?
Kenneth
But you are talking about something we all bemoan like sick of seeing M bad. Find me, go into a BMW dealership. Find me a BMW that is does not have an M badge on it. They all have it even if they're not M cars. It's very annoying.
Filippo
Alpena BX7XP7.
Kenneth
I'll bet there's an M badge somewhere. But like it's just. I just, I don't like this personally because in my opinion like I liked it's like get the special car. Like honestly it takes time. Get. Get a used one, something like that if you want it. Like just save and get the special car. Like that's kind of my, my view on it. I, I hate when companies water down these special brands. I understand that they're making it more accessible but the reality of it is is like an M3 is an M3 and an M Sport is like just not.
Filippo
I don't know. Do you know any how fast a 340IM Sport?
Kenneth
I know it's fast but the M3 is faster and it's an M3. It's the real deal.
Filippo
Clearly the mar. Clearly the market does want some sportiness. And if automakers build slightly sportier versions of interesting cars or cars generally that makes it a little bit interesting.
Kenneth
Yeah, I liked when BMW did the is thing though. If I'm going to make the BMW comparison like I liked when they did that. I thought that was too discreet.
Filippo
You need more Ambadges.
Kenneth
Well, I like discretion.
Nick
All right, let's say I interpreted the question. I mean an actual sports car rather than an enthusiast trim. And my answer was going to be Cadillac, they need the XLR V, the CT4V Blackwing. They make a sports car to me has two doors.
Filippo
Got it, got it.
Nick
Maybe a small but unusable rear seat. So if we had the CN or the XLR V something like they need the C8 Corvette Cadillac version. I think it would sell well.
Filippo
I agree.
Nick
I think it's a no brainer. They've already done all the development. Give me a mid engine Cadillac. I'm interested.
Filippo
I agree. You know, it'd be nice if Ferrari made a good sports car. All right.
Kenneth
Nothing you would know they make great sports cars.
Filippo
Joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. All right. We do one more question.
Kenneth
One more question.
Nick
Bonus question.
Filippo
Okay. This is a question from just John Caution you this person wants specifically your opinions.
Nick
Oh boy.
Filippo
They want. What are some of your automotive opinions that you feel more comfortable sharing without Doug here?
Nick
I feel like with the I enjoy pushing Doug's buttons so I don't hold them back. And I, I feel like roof is an automotive manufacturer we already talked about. Mods are good to talk about. I, I, I, I enjoy making them upset. So I don't know if I've held any back. What else do I have?
Kenneth
Is there a car that he loves that you hate?
Filippo
Oh, but he, we would know about it.
Nick
You're right. Yeah. Doug and I have pretty similar tastes. Like the Bentley Dominator.
Kenneth
Yeah.
Nick
Diablo Y actually. Yes. Although again I've argued with Doug to it. Doug thinks the Diablo 6.0 is the ugly or the bad version of the Diablo. I consider to be the grail. And like yes, I like all the, all the Diablos. But I think the 6.0 is the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing inside and out. And Doug feels strongly that the early Diablos are the Diablos. I think it's like the Countach. He was trying to say this is like the 25th anniversary Countach is to the periscopo. I think the 6.0. Maybe it was just like I was of the right age where I was certainly like most impressionable. But I love the Nissan headlights. The interior no longer looks like a kit car. It looks like a real car.
Kenneth
Well, they put real engineering into it too. I mean the interior got 2 inches wider. I've driven, driven both of course. I've driven an SV and I've driven a 6.0 and a Sunset Edition. Yeah, but I counted. They're on my list.
Nick
Did it get a 6 speed too or is it still a 5 speed?
Kenneth
Still 5 speed all the way through is a 5 speed but it's got.
Nick
A 6 liter engine. I mean anytime you get more display generally better too.
Kenneth
I like the way the rear wheel drive cars drive better. I liked the earlier car better, I have to say.
Nick
All right, all right.
Kenneth
And I also like, I think that I actually agree with him that I think that like I like the pop up headlight cars. Like, I just. They're more classic to me. But I understand why you like this because it's a transition between this and the mercy. And this is what you remember when you were that age. And like, the Internet was something. You started seeing cars like this. And like this one is cemented in your memory. And it is. I doesn't matter if it's a later car or an early car. Any Diablo to me is damn cool.
Nick
The other. The other Doug, Hot take that I think is objectively wrong is he's obsessive about. About license plates.
Filippo
Oh, you don't agree?
Nick
It feels that having license plates from a certain state are a detractor to the overall driving experience. I celebrate all overall driving, especially ones to the north that have no sales tax and emissions. I love the line.
Filippo
I celebrate all states.
Kenneth
He doesn't know where they are, but he celebrates them.
Nick
No, I know where Montana's next to Wyoming.
Filippo
Yeah.
Kenneth
Yep.
Nick
If we were talking about Montana, which maybe we are, maybe we aren't.
Filippo
Of course, next week.
Nick
Next week. We don't know what car I'm going get to get next. We don't know where I'm going to register.
Filippo
Of course, next week you will get to hear more of Nick's opinions. I will be gone for the next three weeks, incredibly, which I'm very sad. Wow. But you will instead, in my place, get Nick, and you'll get Nick and Doug together. So that's going to be a.
Nick
Do I have to take on your.
Filippo
You do, actually. Okay. Well, Filippo, you must talk about CEOs, you must talk about EVs.
Nick
I will. I will invest wisely.
Filippo
Thank you.
Kenneth
And if someone suggests this excite exciting card, you. You go. I don't know. That's what you.
Filippo
In the meantime, make sure to check out my as Martin Virage video. Make sure to also check out Nick's channel, YouTube.com Nick Rashon.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
And thank you for watching. What is this? This is the. The what?
Kenneth
This is the best podcast we've ever done.
Nick
Best one.
Filippo
Ken said it.
Kenneth
Yep. Thank you for watching. We'll talk to you next time.
Nick
Goodbye.
Kenneth
Goodbye.
