Nick
Hello and welcome to this car pod.
Kenan
I am Kenan.
Filippo
I'm Filippo.
Nick
There's a lot to cover. Let's start with the news.
Filippo
Ha.
Kenan
Uniform.
Nick
Okay, this just was announced like earlier today, so I don't necessarily have all the details. What's the story?
Filippo
Okay, so we're celebrating 80 years of the Unimog.
Nick
We're getting it a dinosaur shaped birthday.
Kenan
Yeah, it's in my calendar.
Filippo
So Mercedes has made a like one off, modernized luxurious version of it. It has premium leather, has LED lighting, has a six cylinder engine, all the unmog things. And they are apparently testing it with some customers. At least one customer for the next year or so before deciding whether to build they're leg. It's not like a concept. They're truly trying to figure out, do we want to build this as a standalone model? Do we want to invest in this? And so they're doing some tests for about the next year with customers.
Nick
This is cool.
Kenan
Absolutely. And this is, I think I speak for whoever oversees their Middle east division of Dubai.
Nick
Build it.
Kenan
There are customers who will buy this.
Nick
Go to the site. Do you remember when I reviewed that unit?
Filippo
Of course.
Nick
A couple years ago on Cape Cod for God knows what reason I reviewed that one.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
And see, it changed my life.
Filippo
And that had just a four cylinder.
Nick
Was it a four cylinder? I tell you, it didn't feel like one. Big cylinders, big cylinders.
Filippo
Historically it used to have a 5.1 liter inline four. That one may not have, but that was so cool.
Nick
Now I will say it was more a commercial truck than like personally owned. Like it had air brakes. What was it? Go down to see if he's actually read about this four cylinder.
Filippo
No, that one did not go up.
Nick
It was a 4L one had a turbocharged six cylinder.
Filippo
The new one will have a 7.7 liter, six cylinder diesel.
Nick
Wow.
Filippo
Wow.
Nick
That one was incredibly cool. This one looks like a modernized version of it. But as cool as it looks like, it really was like these are like snowplows and they are not like it looks like, oh, I want to have one of those. You don't.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
You're like, you're like climbing stairs to get in. That's like what it is.
Filippo
But this one will have a high grade leather, contrast stitching, leather floor mats. So you know, it's luxurious.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
And virtual mirrors.
Kenan
Let's see. Arnold Schwarzenegger will buy one for sure. Yeah, I want that. So cool.
Nick
He's off that stuff. He's like driver on Escalades now. Every time I see him, he's in an Escalade.
Kenan
I think he'll still have this with his stogie. I can see it.
Nick
Virtual mirror. So it's not coming to the States?
Kenan
Yeah, of course.
Filippo
Well, they're not even sure they want to build it. The news article that I saw said they were giving it to one customer for a year, which feels like somebody that really, really paid.
Nick
How cool would that be? You live in Switzerland, you get this for a year, you cruise around, you're the only person.
Filippo
Yep. And it's worth it.
Nick
I do think it's neat that they make. Mercedes Benz has a product line that stretches all the way to this. BMW and Mercedes are purportedly in competition, but come on. Come on.
Filippo
Agreed. Agreed. Right, well, that's the biggest news story of the week. Let's downhill from here.
Nick
The actual biggest news story of the week as we reported a few weeks ago, as the Wall Street Journal reported, there were rumors that Ford was going to cancel the F150 Lightning, which is their electric pickup, not to be confused with the F150 Thunder, which is their loud, nice. They have confirmed they are going to cancel the F150 Lightning. And Jim Farley did a big thing about how Ford really is kind of going to start to focus on Extended Range EVs. I presume that that means it's plug in hybrids. It was announced also that they're just general hybrids is going to kind of be the Focus.
Filippo
Purportedly their extended range EV, which there will be an F150 version of, will be driven by the battery but with a range extending engine.
Nick
You know, I hate to say it.
Filippo
So not like a I hate to.
Nick
Say it and you hate to say it, but plug in hybrids always kind of made the most sense. If we're really being Honest with ourselves.
Filippo
And the F150 power boost. Good truck that I didn't plug in.
Kenan
But good truck expanding from this further. Thinking about it in a historical context, I wonder how we're going to look back at this era. It is such a weird era of flux to go from full EV back to plug in. And I agree plug in realistically was the correct choice. But like eventually is it going to go back to full ev? Yeah, at some point it will. So it's, it's like a weird like progress dip.
Nick
And then, well, you look at globally and globally. EVs are clearly what's being chosen by people.
Filippo
About 25% of new vehicles globally, I.
Nick
Mean both, both in Europe and in Asia, where, which is, you know, where the majority of these things are. Sales of vehicles are happening outside of North America and that's only increasing. And so yeah, I'll go back. But yes, it is a weird period where we like did a false start.
Kenan
On EVs and now we're rolling, everybody's rolling it back, retreated a little from Ford to Porsche, everybody.
Nick
But we talked to rj, you know, three, four months ago. He was like, this is short sighted and he's got a, he's got a bias. But he's also probably right. If you look, if you look globally, no matter how much you're like, These are stupid V8s forever. You got to see what's coming in the future. And it's pretty clear where it's going to go.
Filippo
And by the way, don't Forget that in 2008, Chevrolet came out with a hybrid SUV and a hybrid pickup truck. Yeah, nobody bought them. Yeah, and there hasn't been a hybrid Tahoe or Silverado since.
Kenan
That's because it was a VA with a 9 volt to it still.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Right.
Filippo
Like there was like a surge of movement towards hybrids. Ford had the Escape Hybrid that was incredibly successful, but then the subsequent generation didn't have one. Like there's like a little bit of an ebb and flow. EV would be cool. There was a middle generation when there wasn't.
Nick
Which one?
Filippo
The not current generation.
Nick
When it came out like 13.
Filippo
Don't doubt my force cape, hyper knowledge, etc. Will be cool.
Nick
It will be.
Filippo
The wheels will be powered by the battery, not by the motor. Yeah, fine. They have to write off $18 billion. Some insane, some insane 19.5 crazy because they've invested a ton in this and they're basically saying this isn't going to be successful in the near future. They're probably not wrong. They are also investing in hybrid, as Doug mentioned, also investment in smaller hybrid vehicles. Right now they don't have any small.
Nick
You know, it is interesting smaller. One thing we're going to look back on this era and think about is how much of the EV demand was generated by incentive. And I think Ford is looking at the picture and saying there will these incentives will not continue. They don't expect it to continue. You have to imagine a lot of political future predicting going on in Ford boardrooms and in strategy sessions where they're thinking is there going to be another Republican after Trump? Is these, are these things really going to. And based on their, their decisions, they're probably thinking these things aren't going to go back. The ev, the EV incentives are probably not going to return quickly in large numbers.
Filippo
Yep. And I will say Ford's investment, they we talked a couple of months ago about investment. They're making like a universal platform for cheaper EVs that Ford is going to build a pickup truck on and a bunch of other vehicles. They're calling it their universal EV platform. They're still continuing to invest in that. But what Jim Farley said yesterday announcing this was the $50,000 plus EV market isn't there. But they think the low price one might still be.
Nick
Which it is interesting though. There are driven Certainly there are $50,000 plus EVs that seem to be selling pretty well.
Filippo
You know, I saw in November, December.
Nick
But like aren't really in still selling. Aren't. Aren't EV9 selling. We see those. I see me economy is okay. Like I do wonder. Not that I think that this is incredibly popular. I think a lot of those vehicles were developed when incentive structures were different than they are now or are developed prim for other markets where EVs are more popular. But nonetheless, it's an interesting thing to just write this investment down and be like, well, it's over. Ford presumably knows that this is going to be coming at some point, but are they thinking that it's 10 years down the road when technology is going to be so different that everything they've invested already is not worth it?
Filippo
I do think, I mean Jim Farley has done as one of the more public CEOs, right. He has a ton of interviews, especially in the last couple of months, and he has said very publicly that he thinks a lot of Ford's EV tech is just not competitive. So I also wonder whether there's a little bit of we're going to give up on this EV vertical and invest in These other things.
Nick
Well, Xiaomi, sure.
Filippo
What are you. Marquez Brown. He did a big review of a Xiaomi.
Nick
I did a review of a Xiaomi. I get a text from a buddy of mine the other day. When are you reviewing a show? Me, I'm like, I sent him my link. I'm like, dude, what am I, Google? I did that. It's good. People watched that. It was teal in color. All right, move on to the next.
Filippo
More people watch Marquez's song.
Nick
Oh my God. Marquez beat me. What is this? This looks weird.
Filippo
All right, so this is the successor to the current Cayman Boxster. This is obviously not what it will look like. This is a development.
Nick
Talking about cars. We've walked back the EV situation.
Filippo
So that is so we knew and we've known for a little bit now that on top of developing an EV version, because originally the 718 successor was going to be all EV. Yeah, they're going to continue the current four cylinder powered 718 Cayman 17 boxer.
Nick
Great. That's what everybody likes. That's what everybody likes and wants the four cylinder.
Filippo
But they've now said that they're behind the scenes doing a ton of development work to fit gasoline engines and into the EV platform. So on top of continuing the current 718, which might be the 982 generation. Nobody knows.
Nick
No. The current one is called the 982.
Filippo
Right.
Nick
I'm going to tell you a story.
Filippo
The 983 will be both EV and gas, but they're having to do a ton of work because they developed it to have a giant battery for.
Nick
Yes.
Filippo
As part of the core structure. And now we'll also have an engine. Yeah, tough. A lot of engineering work behind that.
Nick
You know, even separate from this kind of pullback on EVs. A lot of people were saying five years ago when it was rumored that they were switching this car to ev, that there wasn't going to be a market for it. And I think that was a. I think it was always a mistake. I think even if EVs were full speed ahead and we had elected a Democrat who was still pushing it and in North America it was still strong and globally it was still strong. I think this still would have been a mistake probably. And so, you know, too bad.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
But I mean, am I wrong? Like, come on.
Kenan
No. It's a shame they can't read the writing on the wall.
Nick
Of course, what EV sports car has ever been desirable?
Filippo
There have been none built.
Nick
Even the RIMAC nevera at a million dollars is not desirable. Even the i8 at even it used at $35,000. People aren't fighting like come on.
Filippo
I think that there is, we, there's maybe an unknown market for an ev. Torture.
Nick
You're right, it's unknown. We don't know anyone who's in it.
Filippo
There could be a market legitimately.
Kenan
Truly.
Nick
What has a bigger market? The Nissan Armada Nismo which I'm reviewing right now or the electric Boxster.
Filippo
No comment.
Kenan
It's a race to the bottom there.
Filippo
It is. Quite a testament to how long they think that it will be before an EV sports car is the most desirable option. That they are not just saying we'll continue the 718 for a couple of years. They're saying we're going to invest tens of hundreds of millions of dollars to fit a gas engine in what we have planned.
Nick
Kenan and I will tell you how long it will be before an EV sports car is desirable.
Kenan
Math carry the one long time.
Filippo
Never long time.
Kenan
I don't think it'll for me. Well I don't, I just, I don't know. I'm open to the idea of trying one but like I, I, I don't know like when I, even when I drove like the really early Tesla Roadster it was cool and everything. Was it a great driving experience? Not really. I mean it wasn't like well do I want that?
Nick
No.
Filippo
Like do you find a four cylinder PDK desirable?
Nick
Well the other thing that has been announced is that Porsche is going to start putting in the shifting. They're going to start putting in the shifting now that they've. That was not what they originally said. They've learned they originally were like be a German who's not going to put in electric shifting in their cars.
Kenan
Why would we do that? We're not putting it in. That makes no sense. Less efficient. You actually want it to be worse is what you're saying.
Nick
That's exactly it. They were interviewed and said that they were like it's less efficient. It's not as fast, it's not as good. Well guess what you mean where like.
Filippo
There are sounds that you can then like the Ionic 5N does where it's.
Nick
Like it just drives though it's a.
Kenan
Feel like it like the ionic 5N.
Nick
Shifting is the greatest thing that ever happened to electric cars. There are two great things that happen to electric cars that and the Chevy S10 Electric.
Filippo
I'm familiar I don't have that now. We have not almost like we would if we did. We'd Talk about it daily. We've sold some S10s, but we never.
Nick
Sold an electric S10.
Filippo
If you have an electric S10, which.
Nick
What even are we? Is this a real business? If we're not selling electric S10s, how many are around? You know who hasn't sold any electric S10s? US. And also Chevrolet. No, they sold five or eight. Yeah, well, that's universities never personally. Yeah, two universities in 2003. There's a 31 mile range and if it was cold, it was a nine mile range. And when it drove at a walking pace. Anyway, all that's true of the electric Boxster as well. I am so pump for this thing to go back to gas. I don't care if it's a four cylinder. If they do another four liter and it. And by the way, this looks pretty cool. I. This looks like a 911 but duster, I mean they're trying to disguise it, but it's got some wide hips which we liked about the 987. And let's bring it back with a manual. We're doing it. Yep.
Kenan
Gas and manuals.
Nick
Bring them back. Charger's coming back with a V8. This thing's coming back with a manual V8. You got to assume. No, they don't have a Trump country. We got, we got Republicans filtrating everything.
Filippo
Got a hurricane.
Nick
Hurricane, by the way, is a great power.
Filippo
Tr.
Nick
I'm happy with that too.
Filippo
There you go.
Nick
Have I driven one of those yet? No, you got to get me in one of those.
Filippo
All right. If you are fca, I think I dug into one of those.
Nick
I still think it's called fca. That's going to be your biggest problem. Stellantis. Stellantis. You're right.
Filippo
Wow, tough moment.
Nick
Decade now.
Filippo
Tough moment.
Nick
These people all work for Stellantis cdjr. All right, move on to the next one.
Filippo

Nick
You still think it's called Eagle? Oh God. What is this?
Filippo
All right, the EU has for a long time been saying that by 2030 they basically will. Excuse me, by 2035 they won't have any gas powered new cars. Right. They were requiring 100 reduction in CO2 emissions from 2021 to 2035. They have basically today reversed that planned ban. There's some stuff, some like logistical, government stuff.
Nick
What a surprise.
Filippo
Their new rules is that they need to cut it to 10% of 2021 levels. So it'll still be very reliant on a lot of cars going ev. It'll still be very reliant on plug in hybrids, but a lot more room for gas.
Nick
I'm gonna give you a little hint, they're gonna roll that back too.
Filippo
Agreed. Agreed. That is the new story.
Nick
What is China's current percentage of EVs? It's like 50 some percent.
Filippo
53.7%.
Nick
Even China, which essentially is creating a new economy and new infrastructure and all that, they're only at 53% now. They got 10 years. The EU's got 10 years. Although that clock is a ticking by the way.
Filippo
They can also offset, based on the new rules, up to 10% through the use of low carbon steel that's made in the EU through E Fuels and biofuels.
Nick
Eu. They make steel in the eu.
Filippo
I think they want to. Low carbon steel, no less.
Nick
Boy.
Filippo
So in other words, walking back a little bit, leaving still kind of pushing for EVs and low emissions, but riding on the wall.
Nick
Did they walk back, did they. Did they give a new target date for zero emission? Are they saying 24?
Filippo
I don't think they have.
Nick
Incredibly, V8s will still live in Europe.
Kenan
In this graphic car.
Filippo
There are V8s for sale.
Nick
Porsche and they have that Turbo V8. Mercedes AMG has Turbo V8. There are Swiss people who still are buying V8s.
Filippo
Yeah, yeah.
Nick
And Italy has those Ferrari and Lamborghini cars. Yeah. You gotta wonder, you remember when they used to used to heavily neuter the cars for America. Like the 308 would have. Like there'd be an America version because of the cats and all this and there'd be a Euro version where it just breathed.
Kenan
Yes.
Nick
If you ever wonder if there's going to be like a Temerario John Temarion where they do like a four cylinder for Europe because that's all Europe seems.
Filippo
Hey, BMW did with E30 in Italy. In Italy and Portugal.
Kenan
Yes, yes. With the S4G.
Nick
You know what I'm saying though? Like do you wonder if there's a chance that someday they realize like there are still market demand for these big old motors and let's just do them for those countries and. Yes, and the weenie countries who want their pure ev. EV only they can do that too.
Filippo
Stellantis tried with the Charger.
Nick
It's a, it's a flip ski of the 80s.
Kenan
Well, yes, I mean, but it's not. I mean this has been going on for a while. Like America has kind of become the bastion of manual transmissions. Who thought that?
Nick
But. But the automakers are not giving us different. Like I'm talking John Temerion four cylinder in Europe John Temarion V10.
Filippo
I bet it will happen. I bet it'll happen.
Nick
It'll probably happen at least a little.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
I mean some of them it would not make sense to make to do for the John Temarian because the volume is low. But you got to assume like Mercedes and BMW will eventually be forced to stop selling V8s in Europe and they can't complete.
Filippo
It's already true. Like what are the C class cities trims here? It's a C300 which is a 24 cylinder.
Nick
Yeah, all those. Right.
Filippo
Like those also exist there, but nobody buys them. Like that's A take rate on them is so low that fundamentally they don't need to exist.
Nick
Yeah, but Panamera Turbo and stuff, do you think? I guess my question is one day will there be a Panamera Turbo that in Europe is a EV or a plug in hybrid two cylinder and in the States they still run with the old motor because they still can.
Filippo
I truly think so. Yeah.
Nick
By the way, we'll finally get the 80s back. Those bad bumpers.
Kenan
This is, this is it all. It all comes back around again.
Filippo
Yeah, I support those bumpers. By the way, our producer is very proud of this image.
Kenan
So yes, It's a carbureted V10 that appears to be bleeding.
Nick
Is it a 10?
Kenan
Yeah. 1, 2, 3, 4.
Nick
Oh yeah, yeah it is. It could be a V9, you don't know. Oh, it does look bleeding. I don't know where we got this picture, but geez. So anyway, this. Every story we ever talk about in news is either some new car that's being revealed and is amazing or automakers and governments rolling back EV mandates. Go to the next news story. Let's hear about more ev.
Filippo
Man, it's the opposite Ish. Nissan company that's doing well is going to release 10 new Nismo models to 10.
Kenan
That's.
Nick
I want to, I want to be.
Filippo
They currently have five.
Nick
I want to say something for those watching at home right now in the office. We have this car, it's sitting right over there. It's the Nismo Armada.
Filippo
Because you know what the SUV needs, large body on frame.
Nick
It's crazy. They're doing a high, there's an off road, high performance version of the Armada already. And that's true of every full size, the Tahoe Z71 and Criteria Pro and all that. But they're doing a street performance version, the Nismo Armada.
Filippo
Well, we love the GMC Cyclone.
Nick
That was a tiny little truck and it double truck. This is a 6100 horsepower car that.
Filippo
Has 600 horsepower would be cool.
Nick
A 600 pound car that has a Nismo, a body kit and a rear spoiler. It's great. Obviously, in my opinion, this is the Lincoln Blackwood and the Murano Cross Cabriolet of our generation.
Filippo
Is there more power?
Nick
There is 35 more horsepower.
Filippo
Hey, that's gotta be like 5%.
Nick
And the engine, as you saw earlier, there's a plaque on the engine that says that it was expertly tuned by the factory.
Filippo
The regular, not the engineers, by the factory.
Nick
The regular Armada is just tuned. This one. Oh, don't do that is is expertly tuned.
Filippo
Okay, well regardless, there will be at least five more.
Nick
What else are they coming out with?
Filippo
All right, so they're apparently five right now for sale globally.
Nick
They're gonna be going up to 10.370Z Armada.
Filippo
The. The Nissan Z. It's not 370Z. The Nissan Z. The Armada. In the global variants of the Ariya.
Nick
The ev, there's an Aria Nismo. We don't get that. Yep.
Filippo
The Skyline. We don't get the AR anymore.
Nick
This is the problem. Trump killed evs like the great Aria Nismo, the Skyline sedan. Pull up a picture of the Aria Nismo. Good luck spelling it.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
AR I Y A I I Skyline sedan.
Filippo
Yeah. Apparently exist.
Nick
Okay. Oh, we're missing out on this Nissan Europe. Oh my God. Was just making fun of the Europeans. I hope they still send us this car.
Filippo
X Trail, which is the rogue, has a off road Nismo edition.
Nick
Okay.
Filippo
Not in the U.S. what's coming?
Nick
What are the new ones coming?
Filippo
We expect. We being the community of Nissan enthusiasts. A Leaf Nismo.
Nick
What?
Filippo
I'm not joking.
Nick
Is that the best or the worst.
Filippo
On your little list here? Well, there might be a Centro Nismo. It's not gonna. But they have teased one like standalone ish Nismo model. Cause Nismo still goes racing and so I think they might have to do something Grgt Rifle. Right. For that.
Kenan
They're really testing the strength of the Nismo brand.
Filippo
There is no Nismo brand.
Nick
It's gonna be big. You know. You know who's gonna buy these?
Filippo
What can you say?
Nick
Uber black drivers. Who would they go to? The dealer. And there's a better discount on this than a regular Armada. Yeah, that's. Who's gonna buy these. Yeah, it's like the Avalon trd.
Filippo
It's likely to be normal. That are Nismo if I.
Nick
Well, I can't wait. Okay, next news.
Kenan
Ah, yes. So this is an Audi GT50. Now this is a concept car that Audi has made based on the RS3. Basically every now and again they let their apprentices kind of just let their minds go wild and build something cool. We're marking 50 years since the Audi five cylinder engine came into existence. And so to celebrate that, they set 14 of the young apprentices wild on an Rs3 to make this.
Nick
This.
Kenan
The things I found that were interesting. The roof comes from an Audi 80, which I think is a very weird thing to use.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenan
The rest of the car is made out of, you know, kind of fiberglass and stuff like that. Now they said that they aren't going to build this obviously. But nonetheless, I think this is a really cool looking concept.
Nick
And we don't build the cool stuff.
Kenan
They don't build the cool.
Nick
We build the Nismo Armada.
Kenan
They're like, we let the young brains go crazy, build something cool and then we say we put it away and we go back to making other hatchbacks and slow cars.
Filippo
It's the same Q7 in the hottest segment in the world for nine years.
Nick
What's the story with that? Can you figure out something about that?
Filippo
Nope.
Nick
You got your little bike shirt on. You got any insight?
Filippo
But the fact that they've sold literally the same Audi Q7 for the last nine years, explain this to me.
Nick
The Volkswagen Group, the Macan, has been the same since it came out. The Q7's been the same. The Q5, these are the hottest cars they have.
Filippo
The Q5 got redesigned this year and.
Nick
Instead they're coming out with the Q4 Sportback and stuff like that. And the ID4. Yep. Sportback.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
And the, and the Sportback Sportback.
Filippo
Maybe they should let their apprentices like do something a little more valuable.
Nick
I don't understand that. This is cool as hell. So obviously of course we're not going to get it.
Kenan
But they wanted to tell us about it.
Nick
They wanted to tell us about it. They wanted to say we could do this, but instead we're going to do more sloping roof EVS.
Filippo
I will say the, the RS3 is cool and it is still five cylinder.
Kenan
That's awesome. RS3 is cool. This, I mean imagine if they built this. Yeah, it's so neat.
Nick
Which one? I like thing like it.
Kenan
I think people would buy it.
Filippo
It would be EV like all the Renaults that are.
Nick
No, it's a Turbo 5. It's commemorating 50 years of the 5. So you just said.
Kenan
They already said.
Filippo
I mean if it were to exist.
Nick
You know what the problem is really? It's regulations. You know they would send this for sale tomorrow if they didn't have to get it crash tested and all that. And that Trump fellow, the guy who's in the White House there, that guy, he said that he wants K cars. Let's show him this, this. Let's get one of his people, that Stephen Miller fellow, the weird looking bald guy. Let's get him.
Filippo
You mean the Stephen Miller is the choice?
Nick
What is he not? Is he not that that's him. Let's get him to be interested in this.
Filippo
We should.
Nick
And then he takes this to the Trump guy. And the Trump guy's like, I want these. What would Trump say if he saw this?
Kenan
I like that car. I like the little X. It's got little X's for eyes. It is really cool.
Filippo
Well, he's from. Stephen Miller is from LA area. He probably grew up in the car scene.
Nick
Oh, he grew up in the car scene. He was Santa Monica, probably Fast and the Furious dude. He probably was the kid who had the Jetta. That's probably based on Stephen Miller. Danger to manifold. When he drove off at Race wars because he didn't want to give up his car, he probably went to Washington. Okay, to our next news story, please. Oh, here's a man in front of an SLS.
Kenan
Yes. So it's 2012. No. Yes.
Nick
Is this.
Kenan
This gentleman is the head designer for Mercedes AMG and he is stepping. Or the chief designer. He's stepping down and he's being replaced now. He actually gave us quite a few great, notable designs. He gave us the slr. He gave us the AMG or sls. AMG gave us the amg.
Nick
He's been working there that long.
Kenan
But he gave us some questionable designs. He gave us the EQE and the eqs, which you like, but the market doesn't.
Nick
I'm looking at this guy's wiki and he did the W221. And so as far as I'm concerned, he a, is absolute master's genius. He's the only great automotive designer who's not Italian in the history of.
Kenan
That's an interesting point because. Yes, all automobile designers should be Italian.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
Oh, he did the R Class.
Filippo
Well, that's a good.
Kenan
Well, he can't win them all.
Filippo
No, he did.
Nick
He did win them all.
Kenan
So I don't know. This means that there will be a departure for, like, the vision of Mercedes design going forward. But, you know, they said they wanted to be the. What is it? The bad boy of whatever.
Filippo
No, that's. That was him.
Kenan
That was him. Well, maybe that. Maybe that. Maybe that's why they fired him. That's a bit much.
Nick
Fired? They didn't say he was fired. He's only 57. My hope is that this man goes and works at a company that's bringing V8s to the people.
Filippo
He was fired.
Nick
It's pretty clear.
Filippo
But. Yeah, but Bastian Bowdy, the head of AMG Design, will become the head of.
Nick
The head of amg. Design's coming right up.
Filippo
Great. So you were right. They were. They did want to be the bad boys. You're right. You're right.
Nick
It says he steps down. It doesn't say he was fired. I believe everything that large corporations tell me. I think that the Mazda 6 diesel is still only a couple of months away.
Filippo
So niche. I love it. Yeah. He is stepping down. Effective now.
Kenan
Yeah, effective immediately.
Nick
Speaking of people who are out, go to the next news story. We have Jerry McGovern, Land Rover's guy. We reported Jaguar Land Rover, head of design. We reported he was being fired last week. This week. He's not fired anymore. Not fired anymore.
Filippo
One of the wild.
Nick
They discovered what severance they would have to give in contractually, and they were like, oh, wait a minute, you're back. Come on.
Filippo
Their statement, which came about a week or two weeks after the actual news broke, was, it is untrue that we have terminated Jerry Maguire's employment and do not intend the governance employment. I do not intend to further comment on speculative stories.
Kenan
How do you think that? Awfully sorry.
Filippo
Well, what would happen is they realized that they did something very wrong from an HR perspective and would be sued.
Nick
Something weird happened. So it was reported. And we reported, including two weeks ago, two podcasts ago, that. That he was going to get fired. They didn't. When asked by other automotive press at the time, they had no comment.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
Now, if you're not firing the dude, your comment is, what are you talking about? We're not firing the dude.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
Then they came out two weeks later, oh, we're not firing the dude. But we decided they wouldn't confirm if.
Filippo
He still worked there.
Nick
JLR is in turmoil right now between the Jaguar shakeup and the hack and whatever's going on here. This is a situation.
Kenan
It's a tough year.
Nick
This is a situation. And I'm sitting here. All I want is a new Velar. Like a new redesigned Velar. Nice. And they're out here doing all this corporate drama. Come on, folks. We need a Discovery Sport. We need a Discovery Sport.
Filippo
You know, a good one, though.
Nick
A good one. Which has never. It hadn't happened yet.
Filippo
No, hasn't.
Kenan
Yeah, I'm good.
Filippo
But he may or may not still be employed and may or may not have been fired. All we know for sure is that he definitely was fired and now there's legal action. That's all we know for sure.
Nick
No, I think that it's all. I think that again, I believe the word of multinational conglomerates. When they told me to stop driving the Carrera gt, by God, I didn't drive that car. I certainly didn't put 4,000 miles on it. Between when they told me to stop driving it and when they told me.
Kenan
I could drive it again, oh, that would be reckless.
Nick
That would be reckless. For God's sake. Jerry McGovern, nice to have you back. It was a tough two week hiatus, but we're so glad you're back because we love all of your design except for all the Jaguars. Do you think he did the I pace?
Filippo
Because if so, not a fan of the I pace. But the XC looks good.
Nick
You agree that if he did the I pace they should have just fired up men and saved themselves the trouble.
Kenan

Nick
Okay, although they're doing the oh my God, what's happening there? Our next news story is people hanging out of an Elantra. The Kia boys appears the Kia Boys.
Filippo
Pennsylvania Hyundai and Kia have reached a settlement. So for all of COVID turns out base model, especially Kia and Hyundai, very easy to steal because they didn't have a mobilizer and it went out on TikTok like how you would steal it and it turns out that literally any child can pretty much they have reached a settlement that will include Hyundai and Kia offering to add an immobilizer and kind of change the ignition system for any model that is impacted unfortunately, all those cars have been stolen 10 to 20 times by now. Yeah. And they don't exist anymore.
Nick
The thing about class actions is that, you know, you just get into these situations where the people don't actually get the money that they deserve. Supposedly they're going to fix the cars, whatever. But like this is. This was really improper behavior from a corporation, to be honest. This was clear that it was going on. This is an obvious thing. Immediately it was discovered the cars started getting stolen. Everybody's Hyundai Kias got stolen. They couldn't get insurance for them anymore. Hyundai Kia dealers were sketch about, oh, we'll just replace it and fix it. And it fixes go right back into the world. This turned off a generation of people from buying these cars. An enormous number of people who bought Hyundais and Kias did so because they are easy cars to get to work. And they walk outside and their car's gone because it turns out you can steal it with a spoon. Like a Honda from 1991.
Filippo
Yep. I will say there's a USB drive, I think.
Nick
Yeah, whatever. It didn't matter.
Filippo
Yeah. Only for the base models didn't have an immobilizer. Somehow, I will say part of the settlement, all future Hyundai Kias must have an immobilizer, which I thought that was true of all cars, pretty much. Turns out. And also they might have to pay up to $4.5 million of restitution to people whose car.
Nick
4.5 million is nothing. Nothing. Nothing.
Filippo
Truly.
Nick
They said they sold 9 million cars nationwide.
Filippo
Most of those were not in.
Nick
No, 9 million eligible vehicles were sold between 2011 and 22. They were still selling these cars going into. I mean, come on. This started being reported in 1819. For years later, after. Yeah, everybody gets nothing, basically. And they pay some fine and whatever. What's going to actually come out of this is, again, a generation of people is going to say, I will never buy another Hyundai in Kia.
Filippo
My sister, who has never owned a Hyundai Ariquia, has said that she would not. She would now not buy a Hyundai Archia as a result. Yeah, she's not into cars. This is like came out of the blue, which is unusual.
Nick
I've definitely had people tell me that. And I have definitely recommended these cars to people who then had problems.
Filippo
Have they held you liable?
Nick
No, but it makes you. It just reminds you at the end of the day why you recommend Toyotas and Hondas to people. You try. You desperately try. You tell your parents to get a Lincoln mkc and they do do.
Filippo
And then they do get run over because they press the wrong button and.
Nick
Then they accidentally leave it on in the garage and the battery dies because they don't understand all that. And if they just had a RAV4, that wouldn't have happened.
Filippo
Yeah. Honda stopped getting stolen in 1998. Everybody knows that.
Nick
Honda, Hondas. Yep. Yeah, yeah. 97. The 97 Accord was the last Accord that got stolen. Now if you see 97 accord on the road, you can steal it. I think that's. I think it's just settled law.
Filippo
You could just factual.
Nick
It's just your.
Filippo
It's a good Accord.
Nick
It was a good Accord.
Filippo
It's a really good Accord.
Nick
It was a good Accord. Although I personally prefer the 86 to 89s.
Filippo
98 to 02 also pretty solid.
Nick
No. 03. The. The best accord. The best accord. Let's move on to 07.
Filippo
Not going to agree on this.
Nick
Accord changed the world.
Filippo
We're not going to agree on this.
Nick
That was peak accord. 03 to 07.
Filippo
Move on.
Nick
They did that Hyper.
Filippo
We're going to fight.
Nick
Okay, today it's time for the talk cars segment. Shawn is looking at me. You better say what I wrote. The talk segment is sponsored by the Peterson Museum and specifically the Peterson Auctions. Folks, if you're into cars, the Peterson Museum is auctioning some really cool experiences on cars and bids right now. These will make great Christmas gifts. You can buy them. There are several different cool car experiences that you can bid on and buy from the Peterson Museum. Check it out. Carsandbids.com you could go to the. They'll be on the main page, but you can also go to the Peterson Museum's username. You'll see them there experiences and you can buy it for your car obsessed friend or foe.
Filippo
At the moment, there's a Formula One experience at the United States Grand Prix.
Nick
Which is in Texas, which I don't.
Kenan
Know if you've gotten me anything for Christmas saying this would be four grand.
Filippo
There's also much higher.
Kenan
The last one did.
Filippo
There's also a guided tour of Jay Leno and Tim Allen's collections.
Nick
Okay.
Filippo
And you could also be taken for a ride by Bruce Connelly and a Porsche 935 Laguna Seca.
Nick
Well, that's legit. 935 is a legit car. Laguna Seca is a legit.
Filippo
Carapa is a legitimate human. Also the Peterson. Great, great place. If you're in a Peterson.
Nick
If you're in the right place. We love the Peterson. They are sponsoring the talk car segment. Not sponsoring the talk car segment is Filippo's bicycle shirt. No, it's the Peterson experiences. The Peterson experiences. Okay. I have nothing in the talk car segment today. But you.
Filippo
Yes, I bought a. A car more to come. It's not here yet. I've paid for is on my insurance.
Nick
Wow.
Filippo
It has yet to. It is getting picked up from the seller in the next. It's a shipper. So who knows next few hours or days?
Kenan
Next few hours.
Filippo
And it will be here at some point later.
Nick
You're not going to say what it is?
Filippo
I'm not keeping a secret.
Nick
Can we guess?
Filippo
No.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Know.
Filippo
You actively know. And you actively know. So no.
Nick
Lincoln LS3 liter with a manual.
Filippo
I will say I've not shown either.
Nick
Of you any photos of Mazda MX6 V6. No, because MX3 with a small V6.
Filippo
Oh, I do like that small V6.
Nick
1.8.
Filippo
Really?
Nick
Yes.
Filippo
There's a 1.8 as well. There was 2 liter V6. Yes, there was.
Kenan
Now, to be honest, paid for this car.
Filippo
I paid for this car.
Kenan
It's not here.
Filippo
It's not here yet.
Kenan
I believe it when it's here.
Nick
I agree with that.
Kenan
To be honest, I agree with that. I want. Once it's here, then we will celebrate. And I am very happy you succumbed to the peer pressure of the Internet and us.
Filippo
We have a good one.
Nick
Is it a 4 liter Jeep? Just tell us that. I think the audience deserves to know.
Filippo
No, this is a true bonafide sports car that is well outside of the realm of anything I would previously have bought and is close to two and a half, three times the most I've ever spent for my cars. It is more than I've spent for all my cars combined.
Kenan
Is it B Monster?
Nick
Is it a Lincoln monster Mark 8?
Filippo
No.
Nick
You would consider that a bonafide sports car though, don't you agree?
Kenan
Yes.
Filippo
No, this is real. I'm excited to share more about it once it's here.
Nick
But you're. Now this is really a tease because next week's podcast we are. We are doing questions because we're not going to film it for Christmas. So you're not actually going to announce the car that you've bought until Friday, January 2nd or even. Are you going to do that? You won't even be on the pod that week.
Filippo
I won't be on the pod.
Nick
We're not going to know the car until January 9th. We have to tell the audience what the car is. It's a secret. Is it a Ford Contour svt?
Filippo
I'M not that cool.
Kenan
That would be cool.
Nick
All right. Filippo. Folks, Filippo bought a car. You'll never know what it is.
Filippo
You'll find out. I. I wanna. I wanna you all to have the full experience.
Nick
You'll never know what it is. The full experience. The full experience includes Filippo not telling us for a while.
Kenan
If you want to know what it's like. Friends with Filippo. That's what it's like.
Filippo
I am very excited about it and I'm excited to do video with it when.
Kenan
Well, I'm excited for you Filippo. If it shows up. But I am.
Filippo
It will show up.
Kenan
If it shows up.
Filippo
Better show up. No, it'll be show up. By the way, it's been a great experience. Volvo 440 the podcast too.
Nick
Volvo 440.
Filippo
No.
Nick
Pull a picture of Volvo 440 and zoom in.
Filippo
A hint. It's a Porsche.
Nick
Oh my God. Porsche.
Filippo
And it's not a macan Turbo.
Nick
You're a Porsche guy just like the rest of us.
Kenan
It is all roads lead.
Nick
Pull up. Yeah. That. This one. This one. This one. And zoom in on it because I think we might be able to actually talk him into getting one of these too.
Filippo
I do love a good 440.
Nick
I truly I've never laid eyes.
Filippo
Never seen one. No.
Nick
You must have as a young child.
Filippo
I see one of the young. Saw one as a young child.
Nick
Okay. That's Filippo's big news. The other big news is Filippo's also been handed a car. What's the story with that?
Filippo
Yeah. All right. So I mentioned last week that I.
Nick
We.
Filippo
We. My wife and I have inherited a old Ford pickup.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
I was thankfully wrong.
Nick
Wrong.
Filippo
And I went out to see it this past weekend. Was in Arizona. It's in 1972.
Nick
72 pre.
Filippo
Small exempt.
Nick
You got so lucky.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
So lucky.
Filippo
There's a ton of new parts in it. My late father in law was a mechanic. Like he did a ton of work.
Nick
Does it run?
Filippo
It apparently ran a few months.
Nick
You were there?
Filippo
I didn't attempt to start it. To start it. I don't think it looks. I only wasn't there for that long. But it looks like I might need to install a starter and the timing needs to be set. But that's all doable. Especially on a truck like that. That. That's not a hard task. Truly.
Kenan
You definitely shouldn't start at the timing.
Nick
Correct. Agreed.
Filippo
That's why I chose not to.
Nick
Why do you think? What do you. What about it makes you think the timing is.
Filippo
Well, there's a timing light like, which is what you would have used as like what mechanics use inside the car. My brother in law who helped my late father in law work on it let me know that they hadn't gone to that yet. Okay.
Nick
But they.
Filippo
It ran. It's like not. I think it's not that far off because it ran.
Nick
You're not setting the timing in at all?
Filippo
No, no. I will have to get it Diego, somehow and then bring it to a shop that will. That knows how to work on old Ford trucks. The upside is that that's not hard.
Nick
You say sport trucks, Ford trucks, but.
Kenan
That'S not hard in a way.
Filippo
Yeah. And then we'll drive around town.
Kenan
So you're going to have a Porsche of some variety and an old 1972 Ford F250.
Nick
You got to get blue plates, dude.
Kenan
You have to. Oh, you have to.
Filippo
I don't think I can order those from dmv.
Nick
We'll figure it out.
Kenan
There's a way.
Nick
Your other update is about the gti. I don't think so.
Filippo
In the. I'm going to keep. I'm going to keep. Keep going. So I bought this car.
Nick
You bought this car.
Filippo
And, and I have this, this Ford F250. Now we're all Porsche people.
Nick
You got to hold the mantle. No more Porsches.
Filippo
No problem. Reed. As a group, we can't accept any anymore. I'm going to sell the Fiat. We did a little series Doug and I did and Nick out on a drag strip and on a round a track that included my Fiat. I'm going to sell it when that video goes without. I'm also going to sell the gti.
Nick
Filippo's selling his gti.
Filippo
It's going to be on cars and bids at the end of January. But it's such a good car.
Nick
Well, that's the thing.
Filippo
We drove it legitimately 1500 miles in the last five days. It's so good.
Nick
GTIs are good.
Filippo
It's just such a. Everybody hated the Mark 8 and they were wrong. I truly, truly think that they were actively wrong. It's an incredibly good daily driver. It's incredibly comfortable for 500 miles at a time. It's fun to drive. It's more powerful than you expect. The interior is comfortable. Are there things that they got worse compared to the Mark vii? Sure, the interior is a little bit less nice. But it's such a good car.
Nick
Be clear. It's such a good car. When. When the GTI hate mark 8 was going on was first revealed. If you go back and watch My video. I did not hate it.
Filippo
No. I know.
Nick
Everyone else was like this is the worst thing ever. The buttons aren't backlit. So it's an awful car.
Filippo
They were actively wrong.
Nick
Actively wrong. It was a great car.
Filippo
The tech isn't the best but it's fine. It's okay. Also base trim has a of lot.
Nick
I'm not even still but it is.
Filippo
I don't know why it is such a good car truly.
Nick
But that's the thing about GTI is they're all good all round cars. That's what they're. That's what they're great at. That's why it's kind of hard to get away from those in Golf Rs.
Filippo
If it were my most valuable car till the Porsche I would keep it. Maybe.
Nick
Can't believe you bought a Porsche. The audience is going to collectively world arise and so am I by the way.
Filippo
Bought it 1-13-2025 when the auction added.
Nick
How many selling 1-13-26.
Filippo
How many miles?
Kenan
12,009.
Filippo
All right. I am currently at 32,700.
Nick
Wow. 20,000 miles on this car year.
Filippo
Yeah. It's a good car.
Nick
Well I'm. I'm glad you liked it. I also like it. I think it's great. You're going. You're going to end up absolutely under no circumstances do I want it so good. You're going to end up replacing your station wagon too.
Filippo
Station wagon's going to stick around for a bit. We. We can't change every single car.
Nick
My personal belief though is you're going to decide the station wagon isn't as. Why don't you sell the station wagon. Keep the GTI in this port.
Filippo
Well okay. I think about this a lot.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
This station wagon which now has 121,000 miles.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
60,000 ish. 55,000 since we bought it. Has also been in two minor accidents. Yeah. Has some additional issues that are not like problematic but are it's a 11 year old car with 120,000 miles. Yeah. The market doesn't think it's worth that much. GTI still has value and also the GTI is not quite big enough for a life. Okay. So the wagon 6 for now I.
Nick
Think you should get an E400 type in E400 wagon wagon. By the way I think everyone watching should get any 400 wagon. If you're watching the pod right now.
Filippo
That one.
Nick
That one specifically because I love these wheels. If I could have these wheels on my car choice. They are the best wheels because they're the, Are they literally plastic? They're the most subtle wheels. They, they just say, I am rich and I do not care about you.
Filippo
Are they plastic?
Nick
They are the best wheels. Go back to the, to the main page, back to the other one. You would go over these wheels and be like, look at my sport wheels. No, no, you're missing the point of the car.
Filippo
I think there is a chance the wagon leaves in the next year.
Nick
And for one of these. Filippo, how would you not get one of these? This is the honestly, the greatest Mercedes Benz ever manufactured.
Filippo
My wife loves the gti. She feels ambivalent about the wagon, but the wagon, we agree, makes the most sense for her life.
Nick
If she had this car, she would.
Filippo
Not feel, she would feel even more ambivalent.
Nick
No one is ambivalent about this car. No one. Everyone who has one of these is obsessed with it.
Filippo
You know what I think she would like? A Range Rover diesel. Oh, four or five something.
Kenan

Nick
You have some talk cars for us.
Kenan
Yes. Speaking of Mercedes Benzes. So my SL65 is currently in the shop getting some stuff done. It's.
Nick
It's a.
Kenan
It's first visit to the spa so I'm getting a bunch of stuff done. I'll do a video on it that'll be on my YouTube channel. But it's its first service which makes me nervous. Anytime you take a Mercedes, like any. Any aging German vehicle when it goes in for service is always like please, please, please, please. But nonetheless I'm happy to get you know, done whatever needs to be done and then it'll come back. Then I'll be driving it again. But so far the car has been great.
Nick
You're doing drive belts. Couple.
Kenan
There are a couple. Yeah. A couple known things I have with the car. So one is the. The drive belts. The serpentine belt. Belt was pretty cracked. It was very old when you do that. I'm also going to do the pulleys cuz the bearings wear out over time. I don't have any record of it having been done in the past and I have most of the records. So doing that and then it's got the windshield washer reservoir I know is leaking and so I'm replacing that. So a couple of things like that. So we'll certainly see. I'm. But we'll.
Filippo
You're replacing the reservoir?
Kenan
Yeah, it turned out it was one of the tubes. This is very common with the R230 chassis.
Filippo
Mine also leaked. I'm not joking.
Kenan
Yeah. I suspect they changed the design.
Filippo
Put a little bit tape.
Kenan
Well, I'm doing it as per the usual. I'm doing it properly for the record. So I don't. We'll see what it. How much it'll be when it comes back. I also learned we're going to do like alignment. I'm going to have the wheel bearings are adjustable on the R230 which I don't know what that means or how that works but those are being adjusted and realigned. So.
Nick
Okay. So a little work on that.
Kenan
Little work on that.
Nick
So otherwise as you are thinking about getting rid of it for a Viper, you know I can't.
Kenan
You. Yes. You were not elegant about how you said that I was going to get rid of the sl. I have to say, you know, I drove it a lot the other week. And I really enjoyed it. The engine is a masterpiece. But I just can't stop staring at the. I'm staring at it now we have a Viper. The McDonald's Viper and the the office. And I just can't stop think I didn't dream I bought one.
Filippo
Wow.
Kenan
The other night. And so I'm like as much as. Look that smug face.
Filippo
You claimed a few weeks ago that you would have the SL till car week.
Nick
No chance.
Filippo
And then did I.
Nick
No, I said Valentine's Day, right?
Kenan
Valentine's Day.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
I don't know if things lasting that long. C sl.
Kenan
I don't know. It is a great car but like the Viper's just so cool. So I, I don't know.
Filippo
You got to keep it for about.
Nick
You know. There were people before you bought the sl, some people who said you should have gotten a Viper.
Kenan
Well, there were none on them available.
Nick
Pull up.
Kenan
Remember the contacts there.
Nick
Type in Viper RT, SL10. There were none. What about this one? Well, what about this one?
Kenan
That wasn't around at the time. I bought it in October.
Filippo
And what about the one before that was in October.
Nick
That was November 3rd, dude. Yeah, we listed in October. You're welcome.
Kenan
Well no, I'd already gotten the car by that early October.
Nick
It was October 28th. I got a bunch of these. Let's keep scrolling.
Kenan
This one maybe I should have but it had a reserve on it so I couldn't look.
Nick
My point is flexible. My point is go down. My point is there were people and by the way there's that other website.
Filippo
Autotrader.Com cars.com that's where we found cars.
Nick
What I'm telling you is you could have had an RT10 and you should have and now you regret it and you.
Kenan
Well, it popped up, up. It was like there were just. I, I so I'm. I think I've also decided I want a gen 1.5 or gen 2.
Nick
Really?
Kenan
Yeah. The gen ones just don't like driving around in that car. That car is supposed to be quite a bit better than the Gen 1 and I. It's crude at best.
Nick
So what are you saying? That is a 1.5.
Kenan
That's a 1.5. So I'm saying a 1.5 or a 2. The 1.5 is interesting because they only may have been 96 and they're only the special color ones that the white one and I think it's silver but I can't remember remember. So a gen 1.5 would be amazing. I like that one. Honestly, that one would be pretty great.
Nick
But you're saying it's cr. I don't understand. You're saying it. You.
Kenan
I'm saying a woman, if that is as crude as I think is a one must be even more like.
Nick
They're not less adjustable. They're not that different.
Kenan
I upgrades based on my. It's jumping power, though. I think it goes up to 400.
Nick
How about a 197?
Kenan
Blue, white. Those are 100 grand.
Nick
Those are 80 to 100. You spend real money to get a real car. Carol. Shelby, dude. Shelby.
Kenan
Yeah. I mean, I don't want to spend quite that much. I. I still. And I also. I want a convertible as much as I like the gts, but I think.
Nick
Well, you go and get an open roof.
Kenan
Well, yeah, sorry. Not a convertible. A Barketta, but I don't. I just. I can't stop thinking about the Viper. I. I just think I want to scratch that itch. As great as the sl. It is a great car.
Nick
You agree? Spring. It's gone. Is it even going to last till spring? Wow. Folks, if you're looking for a white SL that's just had the SERP belt replaced and the washer fluid reservoir, this is the car. Kenan will sell it to you and he wants a Viper. We ain't seeing nothing.
Kenan
When's that Viper go live? In February.
Nick
I'm going to tell you something in the future. Can you guys just listen to. I wanted one.
Kenan
There wasn't one around, and Nick brought it to me, and it was just. It was the. It was the right car. It was cool, and I really wanted.
Nick
To bought a car. You've bought a car that you should have bought two years ago that I told you you should have bought two years ago, and you're now salivating at the idea of a car that you should have bought a year ago that I told you you should have bought a year ago. And I didn't say either of you should buy a G, a GTI, or an SL6.
Kenan
Actually, we all were at one breakfast when he brought it up. That street was raining. You remember?
Filippo
No. Yeah, I do remember. By the way, even if I would look two years ago, I don't think I could have found the car. Interesting.
Nick
Both of you. Oh, they. They didn't exist.
Kenan
What's around at the time?
Nick
Are you saying your car's only a year old? Your Porsche that you bought is everything.
Filippo
I'm saying that there are none for sale at any given moment, and it took the current owner a year.
Nick
There's none for sale. It took the Corona a year to find it.
Filippo
It's a career GT. There actually, I think are more courageous right now.
Nick
959.
Filippo
Yes.
Kenan
No, I think about a sand yellow kind Turbo.
Nick
You bought a Puffy.
Kenan
That was one you gotta wait for.
Nick
So you're buying a Viper. You're selling your sl?
Kenan
I'm not selling it.
Nick
Can I, can I, can I. Can I just suggest something? And I'm dead serious about this. Next time you're thinking about a car, just come to me and ask what you should get and I'll tell you and then you can save all the trouble.
Filippo
Last time I didn't ask anybody, including my wife. And we've all loved it. So I just keep going with that strategy.
Nick
That's fair. Okay, we gotta move on to the market report, which is an interesting place to look at him. He's looking at Vipers. While we're moving on to the market report. The market report this week actually has a sponsor. It's brought to you by Kenan's regret.
Kenan
It runs deep.
Nick
Kennan's regret. When you buy something but should have bought what Doug said. Did you not buy what I said? Just to be. Just because you didn't want to give into that because it was around. It wasn't around. We just pulled up.
Kenan
There were no Vipers around.
Nick
Not a single Viper was around available in the whole of the winter and fall and spring and summer.
Kenan
I was looking for first gens and they weren't popping.
Nick
They didn't exist. The Viper. There was a hiatus. What happened was there was a hiatus in Vipers. They took a little break.
Kenan
No, the owners went, I know what I have. And they kept them. That's what happened.
Nick
The market report is brought to you by Kenan's regret. Speaking of regrets, can we talk about the ID buzz? We had an ID Buzz on the site the other day. By the way, I love the ID Buzz. I think it's the coolest car on set. We had a first edition on the site the other day. Scroll down. How many miles were this vehicle? 1800. Basically a new car. Where is it? Was that Wisconsin?
Kenan
Indiana.
Nick
It was bid to and did not sell for 42,000 United States dollars. The sticker on this was what, 80, 65. 65 for a first edition?
Filippo
67 including destination. Yeah.
Nick
Yikes. Now, normally I'd look at this and say cars and bids. What a horrible company. They can't even get anywhere near a sticker. I would that, but I've been on auto.
Filippo
Yeah, you've seen what sticker is.
Nick
Let me tell you something. There are dealers with brand new ones that have never been sold to anybody that are asking not much more than this. Nope. Needless to say, the ID buzz hasn't really been the rip roaring success we were all hoping for. Maybe because the bid to price is where the sticker price should have been.
Filippo
And also they should have had the short version. And maybe they should have had more than the 200 miles it has at this point.
Nick
Is it just pride that they're not bringing the short version? The short version is obviously what would cure the ails of this car, but they made a product planning decision. And Volkswagen, over my lifetime has made the worst product planning decisions of any car company. And so you have in. In some.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
And so here's another bad one. But yeah, no Volkswagen. I mean, dude, going B5 on the Passat, making it a luxury car instead of a Camry competitor, the Tuareg, really taking the Tuareg. And instead of going after the Highlander, trying to compete with the M class.
Filippo
The B5 Passat was exceptional.
Nick
It was, but it made no sense. Volkswagen wanted, wanted volume at the time in the US and they couldn't understand why Americans weren't buying a car, a turbocharged passat that was 8 grand more than a Camry.
Filippo
But then they did it with NMS and failed.
Nick
Eventually they were forced 15 years and they came out with the atlas.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
20 years after. They actually should have. They should have called me up back then. Much like Kenan showed us six months ago.
Filippo
Atlas still the first generation.
Kenan
Still staring at that Viper. Didn't hear a word you said.
Filippo
To be fair, we're talking about something else you can do.
Kenan
This makes me sad though, because I wanted this to be a success. I think it's so cool. And when I do see them around San Diego, which admittedly is not common, this is the market for them. I think they're so cool.
Nick
One of the coolest new cars on sale. Maybe the single coolest new car on sale short of like million dollar stuff.
Filippo
So cool.
Nick
I totally agree, but the market just does not want it at the $68,000 price point that it's at. And this no sale at 43. Three seems a little low to me, but I suspect it's a little low because people are looking at this saying, I could go buy a new one at a dealer for 45.
Kenan
Right.
Filippo
Would you buy one? Yeah. A couple kids.
Nick
I would. I even asked my wife the other day, would you be interested in one? She Was like, I would drive it.
Kenan
You know who should get it? It's Nick. Crazy Nick should get one.
Filippo
You should get one.
Nick
I would. I would seriously consider it. I think they're cool.
Filippo
Let's go. Let's go together. We'll. We'll go to the Volkswagen dealership, see.
Nick
What I'm interested in. A new one. I think if I were to do it doesn't matter. I think if I were to do it, it's like a year, 18 months from now when they're probably like 37. But I'm. I'm not. I'm not. My wife is like the number one candidate for an electric car. I don't think she's ever driven more than seven miles in her life. And. And these are. They're cool and they got a lot of space.
Filippo
And I think it'd be an exceptional choice.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
Yep. Yeah.
Nick
So.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
I don't know.
Kenan
I don't know. It makes me sad for 43.
Nick
It's pretty.
Filippo
It's getting a appealing. Real appealing.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenan
But it also makes me wonder then, will Volkswagen ever take a risk like this ever again?
Filippo
Well, I think that it's doing okay in Europe. When I go. When I.
Nick
They're all Europe.
Filippo
ID buzzes and ID4s are everywhere.
Nick
Sure.
Kenan
But I mean this.
Nick
Sorry for this one.
Filippo
Well, I don't.
Kenan
I. No, that's what I'm worth.
Filippo
So. Definitely just refreshed Volkswagen Taluses and Atlases where the only thing that changes a new light bar forever in perpetuity. Forever.
Nick
The Atlas is just when. If I know someone's not into cars, they drive it on Atlas.
Kenan
That's true.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
Like if you just know someone's like, I don't know what the car. I bought a Volkswagen. I don't know what it is. Something.
Filippo
Plus, we can say whatever we want.
Nick
Cuz no Atlas, no Atlas owner is currently listening to this pod.
Filippo
Early Atlas owners.
Nick
You think they're early Atlas who like modding them? They're like dropping them.
Filippo
Yes. Yeah. Truly. Okay, wait, wait. We auctioned one that was like that.
Nick
Really?
Filippo
I think so did we.
Nick
We. Oh, damn. 9,600 bucks. That's how the used market appreciates the Atlas. This is the only good Atlas ever made. It looks like a sequoia.
Kenan
It does.
Nick
Good.
Filippo
I don't hate the Atlas. Also, Volkswagen fans, we appreciate you.
Nick
All right, let's talk about. Let's talk about green manual cayenne again, very briefly, because I don't want to do a whole.
Filippo
There was a separate green manual cayenne.
Nick
We had a third one sold for 40.
Filippo
Like the right number by the way. I view this as them coming down. I view them as this one's worth less because the spec was a little worth the mileage a lot higher.
Nick
Yeah but also the market's seen them now. People aren't going to go as crazy. 40 is still a ton of money for a 12 year old.
Kenan
What is a $15,000 car if it was an auto?
Nick
It's oh defin $9000.
Filippo
Agreed.
Nick
I mean it's still a huge premium to pay and I think it's cool. I think, I think it's a neat car.
Filippo
I remember in like we, Ken and I have both been working here for quite a while. I remember in like 2021 one we sold a couple of manual kayons and there was one that was auburn metallic that sold for 26,750.
Nick
It's down there.
Filippo
And that felt if you filter for manual.
Nick
Dude, I know.
Filippo
So much money.
Nick
That was such a good buy too. It looked so good. It was this one, right?
Filippo
Oh, I was thinking of that one but that one too. That one sold for 30. Which was the first one to crack that silver wheel.
Nick
Silver the wheels.
Kenan
89,000.
Nick
Yeah, I, I guess that's not that far off market.
Filippo
No, but like that felt so high. And now that we had this like second peak of the nicest, most interesting ones selling for $125,000 and then $70,000, I've knocked.
Nick
That's a first gen, that's a. I've knocked the Cayenne stick because it's not that fun to drive but like for 25, I don't know, it's a cool Porsche and It's like the E2 which is what we called the Cayenne when I worked there. It's technically called the 92A although Porsche Louis have named it the 958 themselves. The 920A Cayenne which came out in a of lot 11 has proven itself to me in my mind like that.
Filippo
It'S been around for 14 years.
Nick
It's been around for a long time. They've redesigned it but it has only gotten uglier. And I still like the 11s the best. The 11 to 1314 is the best and they've turned out to be pretty reliable. Good.
Filippo
Every spec has nice cars to drive.
Kenan
I still want a turbo at some point. I really like this course.
Filippo
Have you ever googled yourself and felt a little freaked out by what's out there? Data brokers can legally collect and sell your personal info. Your name, address and phone number, even details about your family. People's search sites in particular, make it easy for anyone with a credit card to access that information. Nick
What about a prowler?
Kenan
No.
Filippo
Can we talk about the prowlers?
Nick
You have the prowler on your.
Filippo
No. Prowlers are not appreciated by the market.
Nick
The market? You guys are all wrong. It's the market who is wrong.
Filippo
Like I. My theory is that although we all think that they should be worth something, they will never be worth anything.
Nick
Go back. Go back to. Go to the. This one. Go to that red one. How is that a $22,000 car?
Filippo
It's a. That is so cool Chrysler product with a mediocre V6 and an automatic.
Nick
Yeah, but how is that a 22? Look at this. This is a concept car.
Kenan
I'm telling you. You do that. You do the V8 conversion. Like rock Rock.
Nick
I think the Prowler is the absolutely the least amount of money you can spend to turn the most heads. It is the coolest thing in the world. I am a massive prowler in the. I think they are. So the fact that this existed in the era of regulations is crazy.
Filippo
I agree. But it seems like people are willing to spend about $25,000 for the best ones.
Nick
I can't believe it's 25. Folks. People are always writing into us and saying, what's the best car I can get for 25 prowler? What's. What if I have kids and I need Prowler? What I'm looking under.
Filippo
You put them in the trailer.
Nick
Under 40 grand. Here's under 40 grand. And I'm in Canada and I'm choosing between an M3 prowler.
Filippo
This segment sponsored by Yuri of the straight pipes.
Nick
He's got still his.
Filippo
I think he may have sold it. We like you.
Nick
I just think it is the coolest damn car for this money. It is so. And don't take off the bumpers, because part of what makes this car cool is the fact that somehow from a regulatory perspective, they got the government to agree that these bumpers were an acceptable alternative.
Filippo
I don't know.
Nick
To actual technology with no bumpers. Also, look, this car is so cool. For $22,000. How is this a 22 car?
Filippo
I remember when Yuri was selling his. And maybe he has sold it, maybe he hasn't. He was like, I can't put it on an auction site because the market doesn't really support the value that I think. It's a red one.
Nick
Look at those seats. Go to the seats. Go to the interior. Look at these seats. You could be sitting in these. In these. In these comfortable thrones where the headrest.
Kenan
Is also the roll bar.
Nick
Ignore autos stick. Ignore the fact that it's got auto stick, the world's worst transmission. This is a cool car. Filippo. You.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
You.
Nick
Why don't you get one of these instead of whatever Porsche you got? Filippo. Prowler.
Filippo
I don't buy automatic cars, but, yeah, you got.
Nick
Dude, let's do a stick swap. Me and Kenner will do a stick swap with a couple of cold ones.
Filippo
What would you swap it from?
Nick
What would I swap it?
Kenan
There are kits to do this Hellcat.
Nick
I put the whole Hellcat drivetrain in it.
Filippo
That'd be good. It must exist.
Nick
They got stick Hellcats out there.
Kenan
Eviscerate that chest.
Filippo
It does exist.
Nick
Yeah. We call it the Heller.
Filippo
If you have a Prowler, a Heller Pro Cat.
Kenan
Prowl cat.
Filippo
Sell it here, dude. Yuri, sell your folks.
Nick
Prowler people, none of whom are watching, because they're all boomers, right? Prowler people, I love you. I love your cars. I want to come to one of your Prowler rallies. The one they happen in, like, Tulsa, and they all come with their trailers, and I just want to be part of it. I'm not even. I'm not kidding. I know I'm sounding like an idiot, as I often do, but I love this car. For $22,000.
Filippo
Have you reviewed one?
Nick
A long time ago. I want to review another one. Filippo, find me a Prowler to review.
Filippo
Eight years ago.
Nick
Find me a new mail truck to review.
Filippo
Oh, I know.
Nick
And find me a Six cylinder, new Challenger Charger, whatever it's called.
Filippo
By the way, I was corrected. The mail trucks are not built in Wisconsin. Oshkosh.
Nick
They're built in South Carolina. We discovered covered that they're built by non union labor. For God's sake. Anything about that?
Filippo
Driven by union labor.
Kenan
God exists.
Nick
Nick did some political stuff on the.
Filippo
Oh, did he?
Kenan
Yeah.
Filippo
Oh, man.
Nick
Nick goes in both political directions. It's a seesaw. He starts by saying he wouldn't buy anything from Bezos and then he eventually goes off the other way anyway.
Kenan
Yeah, it's a ride.
Nick
Enjoy. Okay. What? You'll see.
Filippo
I know his life. He buys things from Jeff Be.
Nick
No, he says he allegedly. Time for the questions. The questions are sponsored. The questions are sponsored by Filippo not telling us what car he's getting in three weeks. We hate it. You hate it.
Kenan
Welcome to our live.
Nick
The Plymouth Prowler is the only greatness in our world.
Filippo
I can't tell people what it is until I see it in person. I haven't seen it in person. Person.
Kenan
That's.
Nick
You know what? I think that's fair. I actually think that's.
Filippo
I mean, I know what card is.
Kenan
Someone say that maybe you shouldn't have mentioned to. I don't know. It's here. But what's the fun?
Nick
I think he wanted people to get off his case. This is actually a pretty good limbo period for Filippo. He bought a car so they're not mad at him anymore, but they're not mad at him about what car he. Perfect.
Filippo
Spend the money. We're not in limbo.
Kenan
Nothing. Instead of like. What people were annoyed at was that you would just flip flop back and forth between cars.
Nick
No, but I think if he had said nothing. It's still. Filippo hasn't bought a car, so now we know he's bought a car. So we're happy and we don't know what it is yet. So we're not yet mad at him. Because inevitably when people find out what the car is, they're going to be mad at him. He should be mad at me. He shouldn't have said it was a Porsche, honestly. Because people are going to be mad already. We already look like a Porsche podcast because I got two of these stupid cars. Well, I look like Jerry Seinfeld.
Filippo
I gave two options for the kinds of cars I would. Considering they were both Porsches. I think it was known by the way, this is one of them.
Nick
Seinfeld made an unbelievable point on Spike the other day. I don't. I love Spike. Dearly, dear, dear to my heart. I don't really listen to a lot of pods, except for if whistling had one, I would. I bet his audience isn't really much of a pod audience, though, anyway.
Kenan
No, they don't listen, they don't read.
Nick
There's a horrible to say about our beloved whistling.
Kenan
I'm a member of that audience. I love his stuff.
Nick
There's a short going around where Seinfeld says the problem with modern car design is that there is not any kind of confidence anymore. And he specifically called out BMW cars from your era. They designed them in this subtle way that just exuded, like, we don't have to go and make cars shouty to prove that we're awesome because we have confidence. And in today's world, you know, the screens light up and red and blue and the giant wheels and there's an M badge on every corner. There's not confidence. And I've been trying to say stuff like that for so long and I've said variations of it but never stop so succinctly and so correctly. It's a lack of confidence. When you look back at car design that we loved so much, these automakers just. They felt that they didn't have to shout. And to an extent, there are still some like that Audi is like that, in my mind, kind of still. But BMW has so gone away from that. And that's exactly what it is. It's like they're like they're backed into a corner and shouting about how cool they have to be perceived as.
Kenan
Which is interesting because you'd think that the brand, brand equity is so high as it is. It's an aspirational brand and has been for a long time. So why do you feel the need to continue to shout about. If anything, you should be even more subtle than.
Nick
My generation is an aspirational brand. And they don't have to be like that, but they are. And in part because they know that's kind of what people want. But, like, there's an argument for, like, delivering, for, like creating taste.
Kenan
You know what it.
Nick
Yeah, I thought it was a great point.
Kenan
It is. It is a great point. Things. Well, but things do develop over time and do have to get a lot of. Like, for instance, your tagline, this. You watch that Prowler video back, it sounds like you're depressed.
Nick
I have. This is a. I have no confidence. I'm willing to admit that. But BMW, yeah, a global manufacture.
Kenan
Yeah, fair enough point.
Filippo
They're following trends, not drive, not like delivering what they Think this is not.
Kenan
I mean, it's certainly not alone. They're not alone.
Nick
No. I even think the argument could be applied to an enormous number of.
Kenan
I even think Ferrari. Like, I think this car is not particularly, like, shouty or anything like that. It's very subtle.
Nick
It's like, yes, this is a car designed by a designer who has confidence in what the brand is and what. What the buyers will be. That was, the buyer gets in the car. He knows what it is. He has confidence when he drives it. The right people will know what it is. He doesn't care. Now, Ferrari, there's not that they have to show. Everybody's got to be seen. Oh, I got to prove to people what I am. And that confidence is lost.
Kenan
But not at that time.
Nick
So tokens, groups, smaller number of buyers who are willing to accept this. If they came out with this car today, you and me would go crazy. But a lot of their buyers would be like, nah, you know, it doesn't. It's not cool enough.
Filippo
The dirty shield injury is suffering from that. It's more understated than every other Ferrari designed. And I think people like it less.
Kenan
Yeah, I don't know. But it is also so expensive and impossible to get.
Nick
I can get one. You want to get one? I guarantee we can go to Ferrari today, get one. We can get one.
Kenan
I don't know.
Nick
This ain't the same Ferrari five years ago.
Kenan
I don't know. My uncle's still waiting on his order a while. Well, yes, this is.
Nick
We should get an order in.
Kenan
Yeah. Yes. Like a red. Yeah, red tan base.
Nick
It didn't used to be that way.
Kenan
I don't know. You guys spent a lot. I don't know.
Nick
599. We couldn't have gotten order in 599. We would have walked in there, been like, sir, how about a. How about a Quattro Porte? That's what you're ready for.
Kenan
Your speed.
Nick
Okay. Questions are sponsored by Kenan's regret. First question from Toast565. One of the great questions we've ever been asked. Completely unrealistic. Don't look at the question questions.
Filippo
You're out.
Nick
He cheats. But why doesn't BMW buy out ineos automotive division? BMW gains a real G wagon competitor. They're already making the powertrains. Ineos gets to sell the same product, but now has a reputable brand backing it. And they probably get out of the financial situation, which I have a suspicion is not so strong.
Kenan
I have an answer for this because INEOS has sold cars to everybody who will buy one. If BMW buys it, they're not going to sell any cars.
Nick
Yeah, but I bet you that BMW took the Greenwich Grenadier. BMW could spend real money and develop a baby Grenadier, a three row Grenadier, A, et cetera, et cetera and probably make it a little bit more tolerable for a larger audience. Do like an evoke Grenadier that's like also capable but a little more beautiful and suddenly have an A credible off roader today as opposed to, to be.
Kenan
Clear, I don't think it's a bad idea. I mean it would kind of make sense, but this is the thing they, that seems logical. Ergo BMW will not do it.
Filippo
I don't think it advances them in any meaningful way. They could recreate the Grenadier with a way that matches their design.
Nick
I totally disagree with that.
Filippo
I don't think the grandeur is that impressive of engineering fee.
Nick
Have you talked to rich guys who like to be perceived as adventurous? All of them want a grenade?
Filippo
No, no. I agree that it's a great direction. I don't think that BMW couldn't recreate that if they felt like going down that road. Yeah, I don't think it like advances it anymore.
Nick
In a short time, INEOS has managed to convince all these rich guys that they need a Grenad.
Filippo
You see him around Southern California.
Nick
You see him around. And every rich guy that I know answer. Oh, I got a Grenadier. I'm like, all right, well cool.
Filippo
They like the pub.
Kenan
They like the B58.
Nick
The point is. Yeah, and that's the thing. BMW is already doing the powertrain. The car is, is, is built in France. They'd have to do some work there, right. God knows.
Kenan
Yeah. Germans don't.
Filippo
BMW parts a lot of switch gear.
Nick
Right.
Filippo
BMW.
Nick
Ton of BMW stuff in that car. The, the, the infotainment is all BMW and I think the Grenadier brand is already like more strong than I, I disagree. I think that BMW coming out with a XX or whatever they would call a G Wagon competitor would, would, would take some time to build credibility that the Grenadier already has.
Filippo
Do they? Was it a bespoke chassis?
Nick
The Grenadier? Presumably one of the, one of the, the, the undiscussed thing here is that INEOS is a massive corporation themselves and maybe may not appreciate this. They may be like, now we're good.
Filippo
Especially because they was founded from a couple of guys who run the INEOS corporation that Decided they wanted a very specific thing. They wanted the Defender to have kind of continued in the way it was. And maybe they're not interested in selling and then just losing that market again.
Nick
Maybe you do wonder though, like BMW wants this. They're already providing the motors. They're already there. They're probably in trouble financially not selling a lot of cars. Why doesn't BMW come in, integrate some, integrate some platforms? We got, we got a situation. They got a real Land Rover competitor tomorrow.
Filippo
Why didn't they build it years ago? They don't seem to care about this market.
Kenan
Distracted by the XM because they don't feel.
Nick
They don't. They didn't understand what made the G Wagon success.
Filippo
You think they now they do because.
Nick
Remember Audi has come out and said they want to do a G Wagon. BMW has intimated that they all realize what made it successful was the boxes. It wasn't a market position, it was a capability and a design.
Filippo
But if they cared enough, they would have built it. Well, hey, you start seeing renderings, you would start seeing a trickle out and it hasn't.
Kenan
They've got a new chairman now, so maybe he will think differently. Maybe this will happen.
Nick
I wouldn't be shocked if BMW is definitely going to go after G Wagon. This is what they should do. Toast. 565 is absolutely brilliant.
Kenan
And then make a unimog version of it to compete with.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
You know, on the subject of SUVs that aren't selling, noblesse oblige asks. Hello, what do you think about Harry Metcalf buying a Levante Trofeo? Okay. I, we, we, we worship at the altar of Harry Metcalf. On this podcast.
Kenan
Every Sunday I go to church and then Harry. It's better known as Harry Metcalf's.
Nick
You've never seen a Harry video?
Filippo
No. To search for and you find out.
Nick
Type in you heard Harry.
Kenan
Do you spell Harry?
Filippo
Spell that, that calf hard.
Nick
Okay.
Filippo
Is that the name of the channel?
Nick
Harry is my favorite automotive youtuber and I agree with a lot of what he says. He's more into the old stuff than, than we are. But we have some crossover.
Kenan
There's some English bias. Of course.
Nick
There's definitely some English bias. He's at the, he's at the gas station this morning with his Lotus Elon measuring its weight. It's like all right Harry. But he bought a used Levante Trofeo as sort of a get around car. We have often. This is a tough one for us because we have said great things about Harry. And we have made fun of Maserati, not the Tro. This is an important point. I reviewed the Levante Trofeo when it was new and said it was actually a pretty damn good car. It drives fantastically. It is the all. I actually thought all Levantes drove pretty well, but they were overpriced and that included the Trofeo. I presume he bought this for nothing.
Kenan
Yeah.
Nick
As a used car that was his.
Kenan
Point was he couldn't get over how inexpensive it was.
Nick
And. And truly the Levante is a nice driving car and the Trofeo was a legit situation.
Filippo
590 horsepower.
Nick
Think about that.
Filippo
Twin turbo V8 power.
Nick
Twin turbo V8. It's not a joke car.
Kenan
And also to be clear, and he makes this point in the video that he did that he's owned Maseratis forever. In the 90s he was buying Maseratis when no one was buying Maseratis. So like he likes that brand. And so. So like I. They have had some bad cars. The buy Turbo, the Ghibli, the.
Nick
A lot of modern stuff.
Kenan
But there are some compelling cars within what they've built.
Nick
I would even argue that almost every Maserati modern one which we've made tons of fun of is pretty compelling at a price point. At a price point like a Ghibli at 8 which is kind of where they're getting.
Kenan
Yeah. Where are they right now?
Nick
It starts to be kind of appealing and the Levante Trofeo. Pull up. Levantes. Have we sold a lot?
Filippo
We sold a bunch of Levantes and only we've auctioned two trofaos. The last one failed to me reserve at $40,000,000. Yeah.
Nick
Nonetheless, I mean in the 18 to.
Filippo
24 range of 424 horsepower. Good looking SUV.
Nick
Yeah. I always felt that these were attractive. They always were attractive. Look at this. I mean this is a pretty cool car. That's a cool looking thing. I always felt they were attractive. I always felt they were desirable. I just never felt they were desirable or attractive at sticker. And if you go back to my Levante Trofeo video video which was years ago, I make that point and I. I support Harry and I think once again the man is brilliant. He's a. He's ahead of us all.
Kenan
Yes. And he always will be.
Nick
He always will be. We'll always be following in Harry's footsteps.
Filippo
What's the smaller the Gric. Holly whatever. The sporty one also pretty decent.
Nick
It's decent at it. But they haven't been out long enough to have depreciated. Plus Harry. Harry needs more space. Dude, Harry's got a farm.
Kenan
Montrot is like fine wine.
Nick
Harry's got horses. He does.
Kenan
He's got cattle is cows.
Nick
He's. He's going to have a cow give birth. Birth in the back of this car. That's what happens on farm.
Kenan
But they are like fine wine. As time goes on and they depreciate, they become much better.
Filippo
Sure.
Nick
I don't know about that. I think they become just as bad or good, but much cheaper. Next question. Hey, Doug from Kato 2500. You mentioned on the last podcast that you only want to own sports cars with manual transmissions without except for a few exceptions. What are the exceptions? Kenan, why don't you enlighten the audience?
Kenan
Let's see. Exceptions.
Nick
I don't know the answer myself, so I'm curious.
Kenan
Nick owns an slr, so you wouldn't do that. Although before you bought it, you were.
Nick
Kind of thinking, yeah, not seriously, but yeah, that'd be up there.
Kenan
Auto sports cars.
Nick
Dorado for sure. 430 scoot for sure.
Filippo
Yeah.
Kenan
Swap that less and less.
Nick
I'd probably swap it. 575, 599 for sure. And then 575 Super America.
Filippo
Yeah, y.
Nick
All those cars I'd probably swap.
Kenan
That's the thing. I think the. The spirit of the question is what would I actually use except as an automatic?
Nick
Yeah, they.
Kenan
Well, yeah, you wouldn't. You wouldn't want one at any number.
Nick
No, I. At some number. It's appealing. It's just so hard to own and I just don't need that in my life. I would own a vay if I didn't have to deal with some of the other.
Kenan
You had tons of money. Sheer on as a daily. You've mentioned you would do definitely that.
Filippo
Aston sport break thing.
Kenan
Yeah.
Filippo
Yes.
Nick
That Vanquish is good. A shooting break would be. Would be definitely top. It'd be one of the few. Vanquish the Goddo shooting break. Stirrado430 Scud Super America. What's he saying?
Kenan
Project eight.
Nick
Oh, yeah. We've been on a big project eight. Pull up a project eight. I don't know if you guys remember this car. Speaking of Harry, but Jaguar a couple of years ago made a car with a big cat on the side. And click on that one because it's got the cat really big and big.
Kenan
The big cat package.
Nick
I. This car was. Although it's. It looks here like a race car. It was a car you could Buy as a person.
Filippo
Yep.
Nick
And these were sold to people, not many of them because no one wanted it. But it was a Jaguar XE which is their BMW 3 Series competitor.
Filippo
Good looking car.
Nick
And it had, it had, it had 590 horsepower, I think. Yeah, 590 horsepower. To this day it's still almost 100 horsepower above the current M3 a decade later, like this was the stupidest thing that ever existed. And I've definitely talked about and legitimately would consider buying one of these. They only made 300 of them for the world and that's automatic.

I like that. Yes.
Kenan
And Harry was very involved with that project.
Nick
Harry was very involved with it. Which actually has meaning to me.
Kenan
You can have Harry Metcalf. Probably an art.
Nick
Yeah.
Kenan
In your.
Nick
I'm serious though. One of my problems with this car though, to be. To be frank, that I. One reason I haven't gone after it is that like I. I would want a bigger cat on the side. Yeah.
Filippo
The cat needs to be larger. I agree.
Nick
And I think, I don't know why they did it. So subtle. I don't know what they were. Cat goes over half the car.
Filippo
Why didn't it cross through the window?
Nick
I want a full cat.
Filippo
Right.
Nick
You know, these were offered. I. I've discovered something about this car. They were offered with no back seats, but they weren't. I challenge you Internet to find me one.
Kenan
Well, this one has a cage in it, so I'm guessing this one.
Nick
There were a couple press cars clearly that were made without back seats. And there are press photos but when they come up for sale they got back seats. It's like how the demon. You could get no passenger seat and it have a bucket there instead.
Filippo
They all have.
Nick
They all have a passenger seat. Nobody actually wants the car with no ac.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
I mean heinous car with ridiculous. And I want one so badly as a result.
Filippo
Result.
Nick
Yeah. That's a good list. Thank you. You got any autos you want? No. Not one.
Filippo
Not really.
Nick
You wouldn't get a project 8.
Filippo
No.
Nick
Are you kidding?
Filippo
No. You drive. You wouldn't drive around different.
Nick
You wouldn't drive around in a Cat car.
Filippo
It's not about the cat.
Nick
Just.
Filippo
I've never had a Jaguar.
Nick
I was interested, but it's got 592 horsepower. People talk about the Black Wing. This is something I understand. People are, oh, the Black Wing. The Black Wing. You know what's got more power than the Black Wing? The cat car.
Kenan
No, it doesn't.
Nick
What does the black wing have?
Kenan
660 horsepower. 658.
Nick
Damn. The black Wing is insane. We should get a black. We could put a cat on the side of it. I will point out, though. I will point out that the Blackwing is the next size class up.
Filippo
That's one of the reasons the 4V Blackwing also gets. But it's less power.
Kenan
I still want one.
Nick
That's the thing. The CT4V Blackwing does exist, but it's still 120 horsepower less than the cat car. The cat car is stupid powerful.
Filippo
Yep. And more powerful than a Levante Trophy.
Kenan
I don't want that one.
Nick
It's more power than anything. Dude, we're following anything. Yep, it's Jaguar's Hellcat. Okay, next question. We have a couple moments for a couple more questions. Oh, here's a good one. It's about you guys from Shmurda. Doug, when you were starting the podcast, did you ever have other co hosts in mind? Or did you always know it would be the current team in your eyes? What do Kenan and Filippo bring to the table? Or what did they bring to the table?
Filippo
Oh, damn. Well, agreed. I mean, fundamentally agreed.
Nick
You need to understand something with this podcast. Okay? We are the number one automotive podcast, by God. But we only started doing this because we worked. Someone had an idea, and Filippo was in the office that day. Sort of worked out. We didn't intend for this to happen. Would I replace these two if I could? Of course I would.
Filippo
I would. Yeah.
Nick
Instead of Filippo, I would have the cat on the side of the project.
Filippo
Because you have just an entire project. 8.
Nick
He would just sit. No, I wouldn't do that. That's ridiculous. Don't be stupid.
Filippo
Crazy.
Nick
Just the cat. And instead of Kenan, I would have Harry Metcalf fly in every week.
Filippo
Worth it.
Kenan
That. Oh, that would be amazing. I'd listen to that. The cat would be a little much, but Harry would be great.
Nick
Harry. And I'd be talking to the cat and go, yes.
Kenan
Anyway, how do you think Harry would do the intro?
Nick
Kennan and Filippo. The reason this podcast is so successful, successful, which no one talks about because no one knows, is that Kenan and Felipe were my personal friends long before we had a podcast.
Kenan
Yes. To be clear, this is what it's like having conversations with us. We just don't have a screen and talk about the news generally, but often.
Nick
I wish the pod was being filmed an hour before we filmed the pot.
Kenan
You'd hear some stuff just as good.
Nick
And sometimes way less appropriate.
Filippo
We can't quit everything Nick says in a normal conversation. Yeah. He has to himself down so much that it's make it possible for editor to physically do their job.
Nick
So anyway, the answer is. Of course, I always knew it was them. There was no other option. It was just like, hey, guys, you want to do a podcast?
Filippo
So true.
Nick
Yeah.
Filippo
All right. We tried a live show for a while that was in the series.
Nick
Were you part of that?
Filippo
I. I was in a couple of them. We had some other guests.
Kenan
Zach Platinum was. Yeah, I've been on every single. I was on all of those and most of these, but. Yes. Yeah.
Filippo
Try some other.
Kenan
Was our first guest. That's true.
Nick
Oh, yeah, yeah. No, this. This podcast works great because we were all friends before. I've known Felipe Filippo since. Since he was a child.
Filippo
By the way.
Nick
What's that? 11 years. 11 years I've known Felipe.
Kenan
That's crazy.
Filippo
But I've known Kenneth for five now.
Kenan
Yeah. And I've known you for six.
Nick
Six or seven. Yeah. So crazy. That's why the pod works when you watch it. And I always see the comments. People like these guys get on so well. Well, the reason is because that. That's. We are.
Kenan
That's not me.
Filippo
I also want to make it really clear. We also all hate each other, but.
Kenan
That'S not really no Johansson. Well, now I know where you stand.
Nick
Same with Nick. Nick is also our friend. Whoever else we bring on, it's only my friends. When.
Filippo
When.
Nick
When the company got. When private equity showed up, they were like, you need more people. It can't all be Doug. And so we tried some more people, and then what we realized is we only. I. It only ever worked if it was people I liked. And that's why Top Gear was so successful. Those guys, although they weren't personal friends beforehand, they developed that rapport.
Kenan
That's not true. They were. They were friends. All friends beforehand.
Nick
But.
Kenan
Yeah, but it developed beautiful.
Nick
Developed beautifully, worked so great. And I think that's why it works so great here. And by the way, one thing we didn't mention, speaking of podcasts and Matt Farah, who we know whose car is live right now. Matt Farah's NSX is currently on the car.
Kenan
There he is driving it.
Nick
Oh wow.
Filippo
He looks cool. Also great picture OE wheels. Good choice.
Kenan
That's absolutely going to be, absolutely going to be the feature.
Nick
Back to OE wheels. Matt Farah nsx. This is a really, really cherry late production NS NSX currently live on cars and bids for you to bid on and buy and own. Super, super, super excited to see this car on the site.
Filippo
I'm so glad he put the OE wheels back on.
Kenan
Yeah, that was such.
Nick
The OE wheels look great. His looked fine. It's just a really nice car. What's the, what's the mileage?
Filippo
20,000.
Nick
20,000 miles. He drove it a little bit. He told me he got all he wanted out of it and had a good time with it. I love these cars. I'm, I've become like the biggest NSX guy and especially these late ones are just so, so, so enjoyable to, to drive, to use Matt Farah's car. This is a very rare late, late, late NA2NSX owned by the man himself, the king of all automotive.
Filippo
Yeah, I agree with that description of Matt Farah.
Nick
Okay, I'm gonna do two more questions. Two, number one from Bear at the controls.
Filippo
Seven.
Nick
Oh, Doug, what's the worst or weirdest car that you saw in the background in a rich dude's collection that you were visiting to video? Something cool. It's an interesting question. Every rich dude whose collection I go to has some weird. Whatever he's got something. There's never been a time where I've walked in and it's just been F40, F50, Enzo. There's usually in the corner over there there's like something weird. But I'll tell you the weirdest one. The fellow who I'm still in touch with him, the fellow who owned the rosso Vic Diablo 6.0 that I reviewed probably ten years ago. Yeah, he was and is and he told me this. He still is a massive enthusiast of the first generation Infiniti Q45.
Filippo
No way.
Nick
And every time one comes up on bring the trailer and on our site he buys and he's bought. He's got 10 infinity, the first generation.
Filippo
Only the LS400 base we're talking about.
Nick
We don't very rarely sell them, but it's, it's. Let's pull up a nice one.
Filippo
The one that's based on the LS400.
Nick
This box body. It's this body Q45. Yeah, he, he goes and buys. It's not based on the LS. No way.
Filippo
The very first generation Q45 shared a lot of parts.
Nick
Who told you this?
Filippo
Fact piece of factual information.
Nick
Fact check this guy. Anyway, any that was. That was probably the strangest.
Filippo
Did you not know that?
Nick
That was probably the strangest of the. He had a crazy collection. I also reviewed his Rolls Royce Wraith which was a brand new car at the time. It was like a 400 car and he had like 6v8 original body Q45s. Very strange. But every one of them has.
Kenan
We all have our thing. Even if I, if I. What's the lottery at current 1.25. 1.25 if I won that I would still have ether. I would then buy and rescue Clap D39s and save them. That's would be my.
Nick
That's where the money would go. Eventually he'd run out of money. Right.
Kenan
That's the way to take a large fortune, make a small fortune out of it.
Nick
Right. Next question from Coran.
Filippo
I want.
Nick
This is a good question for you, Felipe. I want to list my 1971 K5 Blazer but since it's a topless car, should I wait till spring or just post it now? What are your thoughts on selling convertibles in the winter? What do you want to say? You're trying to hit a revenue target for the year so you're probably put it on the site. Get her up.
Filippo
But I think, I think it depends a little bit on the car specifics and where you live. Truly there is some upside to waiting until things get a little bit warmer. So people like once are have the horizon, the end of winter on the horizon. If you're somewhere that's cold, there is some value that. But I think that that happens sooner than you expect. That does not mean wait till June. That means wait till like March, February, March.
Nick
Yeah, I agree with that. I also think a more dailyable convertible you don't necessarily have to wait like a 440. I agree.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
And also you don't necessarily want to wait if it's a heavily depreciating convertible because I don't necessarily know that the four like if it's November and you want to wait till March. I don't necessarily know that five months is going to be a better situation if you're trying to sell like a new 440.
Filippo
I certainly would not be.
Nick
Yeah, two year old car. You're going to probably lose about as much of depreciation as you'd gain with the seasonality. A 71k5 Blazer in all honesty, I would wait on that. I would wait till the spring.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
That's a car. Nobody wants to take out an old blazer in the winter. It's like. It's all metal. You hurt yourself on it, like when you're cold, you know?
Kenan
I know exactly what you mean.
Nick
Yeah, exactly.
Kenan
Done it.
Nick
Yep. I would wait. I would wait the spring, but I gen. I wouldn't necessarily. On all cars.
Filippo
Yeah.
Nick
I'm trying to say.
Filippo
Oh, sorry.
Nick
There are some benefits if you. If you sell a convertible in the spring and you're the only guy up with a nice, you know, 987 Boxer Spider. Here in SoCal, we don't distinguish. I mean, we've all bought convertibles in the. In the. In the cold months. Yeah.
Kenan
Bought my 355 in. In November.
Nick
I bought the G Wagon October, the Porsche, the Courage in February. Like, we do it here in California. So it's not like that out of the realm. But. But I think you have a larger audience in the spring for most convertibles. Definitely. Okay, last question. Final question. You haven't found anything. LS400. I'm trying to verify why I thought this.
Filippo
And I. I haven't gotten there yet, but I. There's something there.
Nick
He's gonna get destroyed in the car. Yeah. These two competitive companies, both trying to launch luxury brands at the same time, are like, hey, let's team up.
Filippo
There's something there.
Nick
This is typical.
Filippo
Keep going. Keep going up here.
Nick
I got it. I've taught him everything he knows about. About cars. He came to me one day, little boy, hat on hand. He said, teach me. Teach me. So I did. I taught him. I swear that what I'm saying is.
Filippo
Factually accurate, but I can't prove it yet.
Nick
Okay, final question from Spyro76. No, let's do from just the tip. We already covered the other one from just the tip. We've heard that Doug is not a Porsche guy, not a Nissan guy, not a G wagon convertible guy. Boy, that's true. Not a collector, not a classic car guy, not a truck guy. What kind of guy is Doug? A Sequoia guy. What else is left?
Kenan
He's the type of guy.
Nick
I. I don't distinguish the thing. The thing that I think makes people don't quite understand about me is that I love all cars. All car. Like, I was thinking about this earlier today. I cannot think of a single brand whose car I have not either owned or spent like three nights until 3am on AutoTrader searching for perfect examples of. There's not a. I've owned. If you look at my car history, which now has 37, 38 cars that goes like this. Volvo, Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, BMW, Lotus, Cadillac, Mercedes, Porsche, Land Rover, Nissan. I don't. I don't. This isn't. I don't.
Kenan
I'm not.
Nick
I just love all. And I think a lot of people are uncomfortable about that and try to put someone into a box because they themselves are typically oh, I only like BMWs. I only like trucks. I prefer Audis, whatever. And they're like shocked that someone. I'm like this with airlines too. I don't. I'm not. I like. Philippa will only fly his one airline.
Filippo
I will fly whichever airline is cheapest to get me the period.
Nick
I do not care. I don't discriminate. I don't. I don't have a type. I don't have a thing. I have off road trucks and convertible trucks and crazy sports cars and I'll do it all. And it just so happens that the last car I bought happened to be a Porsche that I wanted. But my list still has other cars that aren't Porsches. And I promise I will eventually sell that Porsche probably for a Supra. And then I go into the Japanese realm. He's still over here.
Filippo
I have a freak trying to find.
Kenan
He was looking for it on the site. Now he wasn't Googling it anywhere else.
Filippo
Now he's finally.
Kenan
Google is out there.
Filippo
No, no, I swear.
Nick
Anyway, that's the answer. Filippo, do you agree?
Filippo
Yeah.
Kenan
He isn't paying attention. He is.
Filippo
No shock.
Nick
I decided to go. You've been around when I bought a lot of cars.
Kenan
Yeah, I. You are one of the. If I had to pick someone who I'd say is agnostic to brand, who's just an enthusiast of things with forward wheels. That's you. Yeah. And it just so happens that you've settled on the. You have gotten to a point where in your life where you can buy the dream stuff and so you have. But if you mean you've owned 37 cars before that and they are. They are so diverse and there's just a smattering of interesting.
Nick
I had an 01 Prius.
Kenan
Yeah, that's. I mean briefly.
Nick
I had a CTS V Wagon, an 01 Prius, a Hum, a 360mo Moda and a Hummer all in together.
Filippo
Yep.
Kenan
The only person in history.
Nick
I just don't. I like what. I like everything. I like everything. And I had a Kia and I don't. There's nothing that I sit there and be like, I wouldn't buy that because of that brand. There are certain cars I wouldn't buy because of some of the connotations that the particular car provides, including, yes, that's our friend behind me. But that's certainly not true about brand. I really just am not. I'm into everything. Trucks, cars, sports cars, wagons, SUVs, all of it.
Kenan
Very admirable. I wish I could.
Nick
Filippo. That's our podcast for this week and for the year. We have another podcast coming up next week, but we're not recording it live. It's just going to be questions from last week's because we're not filming on Christmas. Filippo, do you have any holiday thoughts for our audience?
Filippo
When you go home to your family, which hopefully some of you are doing, go judge your siblings, your parents, their neighbors, neighbor's cars.
Nick
Oh, that's so true.
Filippo
All to do on Christmas.
Kenan
Be judgmental.
Nick
Kenan, you got any holiday thoughts for our viewers?
Kenan
I. I hope you all your automotive dreams come true. Wow. You know, I hope that. I hope that you're able to buy cars. Like, Filippo is here. And yeah, just wish everybody a very.
Filippo
Happy holidays accomplishment of 2025.
Nick
Filippo bought a Porsche. Find out in the new year, we'll find out what it is and what trouble it's getting.
Kenan
Maybe not. It might not show up.
Nick
It will. I don't know why you think?
Kenan
Because, like, he doesn't. It's like he. He doesn't have anything. He paid. Doesn't have the title. It's like the guy could disappear tomorrow.
Nick
Oh, that's a good point. Where's the title?
Kenan
With the.
Nick
Is it in transit?
Filippo
It's going to ship out today, right?
Nick
Okay.
Filippo
Not with the car.
Kenan
Anyway, I trust that number's not going to work. F's going to call. It's going to be disconnected.
Nick
Goodbye, everyone. Good luck, Fibo. Merry holidays.
Filippo
Have a bill of sale. It's okay.

Nick on Porsche’s EV u-turn:
“What EV sports car has ever been desirable? Even the Rimac Nevera at a million dollars is not desirable.” [10:47]
Filippo on Mercedes Unimog prototype:
“They’re truly trying to figure out—do we want to build this as a standalone model?” [01:18]
Kenan on Ford’s EV/hybrid backtracking:
“It is such a weird era…to go from full EV back to plug-in.” [04:47]
Nick on Hyundai/Kia theft:
“This turned off a generation of people from buying these cars. An enormous number of people…walk outside and their car’s gone because it turns out you can steal it with a spoon.” [33:29]
Nick on car brand loyalty:
“I do not care [about brands]. I like everything… from trucks, cars, sports cars, wagons, SUVs, all of it.” [91:35]
Filippo teasing his purchase:
“This is a true bonafide sports car that is well outside the realm of anything I would previously have bought.” [37:37]
The panel maintains a fast, energetic, and witty conversational tone packed with in-jokes, friendly ribbing, and barbed asides. The hosts blend detailed automotive knowledge with market skepticism and industry cynicism, while never losing sight of car enthusiasm (“Prowler—absolutely the least amount of money you can spend to turn the most heads”). Genuine camaraderie and affection underpin the banter, especially as the Q&A segues into personal history and reflection on the show’s chemistry.
This episode delivers classic THIS CAR POD! value—fast-paced car news, market reality checks, opinionated debate, and insider anecdotes. Whether you’re a car nerd, collector, or casual fan, it’s a rich (and relatable) survey of the auto world’s latest ups, downs, and absurdities. And yes—Filippo really did buy a Porsche. (Maybe.)
Next episode: Holiday Q&A special and, finally, Filippo’s new Porsche reveal… unless it never shows up!
