Hello and welcome to this car pod.
A
I'm Filippo.
B
I'm Nick.
C
Kennan's out today. We got a lot to cover. Let's start with the big news story. Our euro road trip is live. Folks, if you haven't seen. We did a road trip where we took our cars to Paris, California.
A
Yeah.
C
And the Nicks multipla my Audi A2, Filippo's 500 a bar. We did that. There's a great video on the cars and bids YouTube channel. It's. I'm told it's hilarious. I've only watched part of it. I can't wait to see it.
A
It's also that just video one, there's going to be two more coming.
C
Two more coming. The cars are for sale.
B
Indeed.
C
I find it interesting that we're selling the cars prior to all of the videos going live. Like the auctions will end and then people will buy the cars. But then later there may be videos that the people.
A
All the videos come out while the.
B
Auctions are still live. It's a 10 day auction. A special treat for us cars and bids insiders. We're really milking the system here.
C
I'm a little bit anxious about the fact that the both the multipla and the A2 are at 6969 which is obviously a joke bid but I believe that is their value if not more than their value. Whoever put that bid in is going to regret it because he or she will end up with the cars I'm.
B
Going to throw out there.
A
We spent oh eight grand on the multiple. Now we're good.
C
Oh hey, there we are at that.
A
That is for sure. No, they got a ways to go. We paid more than that for each.
C
Nick and have some sort. Yeah, we paid more than that. We radically overpaid for both of these cars so we could do a euro road trip with them.
A
Oh, that's an interesting point and it's great.
C
Go watch it. Even though I myself have not. By the time you've Seen this, I will have watched it.
B
I saw it for the first time this morning when it went live.
A
So good.
B
Super happy with how it came out.
C
I saw the first 10 minutes. It was really funny.
B
We were all a little silly and out there. I'm getting dragged in the comments, rightfully so, for being a typical American.
A
What they don't know is that then in the next video you're going drag racing.
B
What they also know is Jean Belle. Nicholas Wanchon.
A
No, no.
B
Like I'm French.
A
Move on, move on, move on.
C
Eurocar Road trip. Go watch it. The cars and bids YouTube channel. We're gonna talk more about it next week, but it's a great. It's a great video series with great cars. Filippo's finally gonna rid himself of his 500 a bar.
A
Thank God it's gone.
C
And I'm so glad the A2 and the multiplA will also be gone. The office will be rid of these vehicles.
A
Sad. A lot fewer Italian vehicles once they're gone.
C
Don't buy these cars, by the way. They're all bad.
B
Definitely buy, buy the Multipla. It's the best of the three.
A
It is my favorite of the three.
B
I knew my wife was like, doug is going to talk down on your multipla. Do not let him do it. And you know what? I forgot to talk to you before the pod. So I'm telling you now, the Multipla is a gem. It's the only one in the country and it is worth at least 40, 50 grand.
C
So here's the deal. So Filippo doesn't really care anymore, just wants his car gone. I didn't buy the E2. The company bought it. So I don't care what it sells for.
A
I don't care.
C
The only person who cares about the sale price of his car is Nick. And Nick and I have a bet going about what we think it's going to be. Yeah. But I'm not going to share the bet because I don't want people to overbid.
A
We don't promote betting markets here, right.
C
God knows, unless one of them sponsors. Speaking of which, we're all over it.
B
Hagerty did sponsor the series, which is really fantastic. And they insure two of the cars so they will be happy when they sell and they're potentially up.
C
I don't know if we're allowed to talk about this. Sean's probably going to yell at me later. But I'm so glad we have Hagerty as a sponsor.
B
Yeah, that's great.
C
Like, I literally have been A Hagerty customer. I spend thousands of dollars with Hagerty.
A
Every minute and now you indirectly get some of that back.
C
Get any of it back. Get a penny.
B
I use all of your sponsors. If someone wants to give a free T shirt like Dodge at Barrett Jackson I have underwear from. I think I have chubbies I'm going to wear tonight in the hot tub.
C
The next story is sponsored by Nick Roshan's YouTube channel which is Tesla is killing off the. It's actually kind of a dystopian story because it's not Tesla that's kill the S and the XL robot come to kill these cars.
A
Honestly, that's what's happening.
C
Tesla has literally what's happening.
A
They need the production line capacity to build a humanoid robot. Now what they didn't say is that the Model S came out in 2012 and has received a single refresh in 2017 and has been the same. And the Model X came out in 2016 and hasn't really been refreshed ever.
C
The Model S, they changed the front. That was the refresh. I'm sure they've said there have been other ones. We all know there was one refresh. We all agree there's one. The Model S, I believe. I haven't looked this but I really think it might be the oldest new car on sale. The Challenger is gone. The Charger is gone. The old bodies. Is the Chevy Express still on sale?
A
The Macan came out after.
C
So yeah, is the Frontier Express is.
A
Technically dead but is the Express still.
C
On sale or not? It's dead. What about the GMC Savannah?
A
I believe they're both dead. I think you're right. You could still buy the Econoline chassis trucks, so maybe that is.
C
But the Model S though was so far ahead of its time when it came out that it was able to have this long generation which is 15 years.
B
Wow.
A
Wow.
C
However, it is gone. The X is gone. You know a couple of interesting things about this. To me the most interesting thing like what killed them ultimately was that they did the exact same products but cheaper. And I was making this point to Rivian yesterday. Like the R2 is Rivian small SUV that's coming like an R1S but littler and ultimately like the Model X. Once the Y came out, the X was really only selling to people who absolutely needed the space.
A
Yep. Or one of the doors. Yeah.
B
But three row SUVs are huge, bigger. Like I think a revised Model X could do. Well, I think the Model S, maybe you let the big sedan market yeah.
C
My problem with the X and with the Rivian's is that like the Range Rover, you buy it, it looks totally different, like compared to a Velar or a Discovery or an Evoque, like the Range Rover looks like real. The X, it's hard to tell. A normal person can't tell the difference between a Y and an X. A normal person we can.
B
I agree. Although like Audi is also famous for all their models looking very similar, just slightly different.
A
The A8 is.
C
Yeah. And how's that worked for them? The A6 and the A8 are both. Are both dead in the wall.
B
A lot of companies like having a similar design language is a good thing. A different packaging. You want three rows, you want two rows, you want big, you want medium, you want small. I think I'm surprised that they're discontinuing the suv. The big sedan is not a surprise.
A
I think the reason it's not surprising is that they've been out for a long time. They're frankly very stale. They're not selling.
B
You refresh it, you remodel.
A
And they don't want to invest in it, which I don't want to invest in.
B
They want robots.
C
I think the truth, what they find is that there's not a huge market for this vehicle because other than the third row, it's indistinct and it's really expensive.
A
And also coming out with another one does not help their stock price say that they're going to build humanoid robots.
B
What is the market for the robots?
C
You don't want a humanoid robot.
B
No.
C
Remember the two door taxi? That's a two door. Remember on Whistlen, kind of big brain stuff.
B
This company Whistlen bought one and like taught it to attack things. The robot run around with a sword. It was amazing.
C
WHISTLING Arrested again.
B
I know, I know.
C
Anyway, X and S are dead. No surprise for those who've been following us. I agree with you. It's not surprising, especially about S. Yeah, the big sedan market is slow. This car was a huge deal when it came out. I just recorded a video of the most impactful cars in the last 30 years.
A
That's one of them.
C
And I put that as number one. Spoiler alert.
A
Subscribe so you don't miss it.
C
Don't you think that that like.
A
Yeah, yeah. 100.
C
That car changed the world.
A
The Prius might be more.
C
But you said that was number two.
A
20 years.
C
The 03 Prius specifically that car change changed the absolute world. But Tesla now pares down. We have just the three and the.
A
One also are they investing that heavily in any product? I do wonder where their R D dollars are going. The the three came out with with refreshed. Will there be a next generation? They're kind of coming to the end of that timeline. They should have one in progress if.
C
Why do you think they're coming in that timeline? This car lasted. I mean the three came out in 18, didn't it? So this is six years after. So they got six more years of the three. It's hard for Tesla because their design language is this very specific thing and they can't really deviate. And so it's like where do we go from here? The tech is already what the tech is.
A
Eventually they'll need to redesign it.
C
Maybe.
A
Unless they're going to like an iPhone s where there's some small changes.
C
Maybe here's a counterpoint. Maybe Tesla just gives up on the car biz. Maybe they're like we made our point were out. I know it's laughable to say this right now but they've given like the self driving thing is no longer class leading the giant screen. Everybody has. They've given up their supercharger network to everybody else. They've got the charging ports and charging standard. Like there's not really. Maybe Tesla just quietly over the next 10 years just says we, we killed it, we changed the world. Now we're going to walk away and let everyone else handle it.
A
Yeah, that's. That's what Companies with a $2.3 trillion.
C
Market cap then you move on to humanoid robots. Yeah, that's actually, that's the next Frontier.
A
Space X and xi, which is the AI arm of X I guess are joining forces to be.
C
I just don't see what Tesla has anymore that is like that big of a deal.
A
Model Y was the best selling car in the world last year.
C
Okay. So they have the best selling car in the world. But other than that. No, you get my point. That like the advantages what Tesla for years had these massive advantages over all these other car companies and like they.
A
Got to innovate and I get not wanting to. If they do want to continue in the car industry, not just do cyber cabs.
C
Yeah.
A
Which they haven't really.
C
We need to see like a real something real.
A
Like I wouldn't invest in these. I would reinvest in the Next generation model 3. Next generation model Y. Yeah.
C
Right. That's where the market segment is. Those are global cars that sell really well. Okay. It's still interesting to see these beloved cars canceled. And speaking of canceled.
A
Apparently Porsche is considering cutting their electric sports car entirely.
C
This has been a crazy arc. On this podcast. We're at episode 97, the first episodes all the Boxster is going to go away. Then eventually the Boxster is go. And then eventually. Oh, now they're thinking about maybe doing a plug in hybrid or a gas one alongside an electric one. Now here we are, the electric one is dead. And by the way, Porsche thinking about canceling it.
A
It's dead there. The news articles around it are basically, it has. There have been mounting costs to get the platform to where they want it to be and to get the car to where they want it to be. So I imagine they're pretty deep in.
C
Production and despite all the costs, it's still undesirable. Like no matter how much money you spend on this thing, ain't nobody want it. Yep. Kind of like your shirt. Honestly, what are the apparently good for.
A
That price they have made. We talked a month, two months ago about maybe there'll be a plug in hybrid version. Adding that to this platform seems like it's been really difficult. They're just considering scrapping it entirely.
C
Give us a flat six.
A
That's right.
B
I mean even like a boxer Remax and all that for a million dollars. Plus Pininfarita Batista.
C
Although I did drive an cyberster. Oh yeah, just like your granddaddy's old mg. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
The turn signals were big fan arrows.
C
Yeah, they were. I'm not surprised by this at all. No, bring back the flat six, you could. You could win all the enthusiasts back with a 983 that has a flat. Technically the 718 was the 982.
A
Yeah.
C
You could bring them all back with a. With a flat six and just say, we're coming back, baby. Everybody's. Everybody would be into it.
B
The boxer doesn't surprise me as much. But you're saying all evs. So like the macan.
A
No, no, just the Mac.
C
The mid engine sport. What was formerly the mid engine sports car. It is being rumored that they are getting rid of RV's mid engine and they're naturally aspirated. No, but that's the thing. Everybody's all. Everybody's all up on these na cars, all the big old. Remember, the model S plaid is the fastest naturally. Asp.
A
I have a real question. So like normally you define it by where it is relative to the axles, but the motors usually are on the axles or on the wheels.
C
Y. Mid engine, I think. Rear engine, I think at this point you would define it based on the weight distribution and like the feel. So it depends on the car because.
A
All the batteries are in the floor.
C
The batteries floor. Yeah. They're all mid engine in a way. Sports car in a way. I think that as a result of that electric lends itself kind of okay to a pretty good. The batteries are. They tend to be low so they keep the center of gravity low and they tend to be in the middle.
A
Exceptional.
B
Yeah. And instant torque.
A
Yeah. Audi would not get their complaints about the weight being too far forward with the gp.
C
No. There are benefits to it. And that Hyundai now shifts gears which is great.
A
All right. These are probably dead. Goodbye.
C
Goodbye and good and riddance.
A
Nope.
C
No, no. I legitimately you're the only one I know. And you never would have spent the money now it would have cost 90 grand after all the supplier issues. No doubt next to next story. Oh speaking of dead. This surprises nobody but the Lexus LC is dead shame. After one more year or something like that. This year I don't know.
A
This car could have been.
C
This car is special.
A
Yeah, could have been.
C
This car is going to go down as special and it will. It's an NAV8. It is beautiful. They didn't sell many of them. This car is going to go down as a special special car.
B
It's the Mark 4 Supra of our generation.
C
You give it 20 years, 25 years but in that time this car will go down as a truly.
B
It still looks like a concept car.
C
Still looks like a concept car. I actually think that you know when they left remote touch and went to normal screen it's those that are going to be the most desired. There's like a three there's gonna be like three model years of really desirable LC. They're all going to be desirable except for the hybrid ones. But this car is going to be special someday.
A
It is you by that same log looking at the previous model 400 the like 90s would also be so it's a beautiful. That wasn't with a V8.
C
Yeah, it's different.
A
No, it's not really a performance.
C
This was the last nav 8. It was a real fast car. The the Lexus SC. Despite enthusiasts claiming that the first gen wasn't has always been a soft luxury car. This car is going to be special.
A
I think it was a soft luxury car.
C
Have you driven one? Are you nuts?
A
But, but people that you do see driving them you assume it's comfortable enough for their 80 plus year old car.
C
Who do you see driving a 911. Who do you see driving a911? You call that a soft luxury car? I haven't seen someone under 90 driving a new 911 in 15 years.
A
Seems like 50 year old women.
C
The average buyer age of a new 911 has got to be 77. This car is a special car and I think it's gonna go down, especially those last few model years. The best improvements, losing remote touch.
B
You're right though that it's gonna take a while. It's not gonna be in a couple years.
C
It'll be like 10, 20 years. If you've paid attention to values for these already, they're already okay. This car is already like yeah, like early used ones are still like in the 50s valuable cars. And the market is already appreciating this car for what it is. It's always gonna be a small group of people. But as the hybrids come and the plug in hybrids, ignore the hybrid one.
A
Of these, ignore the hybrid one.
C
All the buyers did.
B
I also like that they came in cool colors. Like bright yellow ones are going to be like purple. 20 years from now someone's going to be like I'm going to have a bright yellow V8. Last of the last Toyota Lexus on cars and bids.
C
2055. This will be a huge, huge 2055.
A
I'll come back to episode 97.
B
What do you think is going to age better this to the LFA?
C
This is already aged better than the LFA. It looked better than the LFA from day one. It drives better, it's better in every single way.
A
15Th the price. We're doing well.
B
The LFA has slightly better sound.
C
Yeah, the LFA sounds better. I mean I'm sure there's other things that the lfa, it's got more letters in its name. I mean there's, there's other, there's other dumb stuff that the lfa. This car was always a better halo car. It just at the end of the day, the market simply isn't really there for a Lexus coupe. No matter how good it was, this car goes down as a very special car. Buy your LC 500s, folks. Enjoy them.
A
You got one more year.
C
A reliable. I mean look at ISFs. That car's, that car's 15 years old, 20 years old.
A
They have retained their value. Doesn't mean they've appreciated.
C
Well, I'm not saying it's going to go crazy appreciation. You would have been sitting on this podcast being like the Mark 4 supra will never be worth anything.
B
Just like that.
A
It's an interesting point.
C
You would have said that about all these cars. You know, we got a Z32 over there. You ever driven one of those?
B
No.
A
We're going to find out how it is, how much it's worth.
C
It's amazing.
A
Incredibly nice.
B
This basement is stacked right now with bull stock.
A
Also it's stacked with, with low mile 90s and like early 2000s cars.
C
Between. We got a, we got an 04 STI down here with 875 miles. We got a Z32, twin turbos, 300 ZX with 6800 and then we have an NSX with 321,000 miles.
A
That's a good point.
B
I learned recently I got the approval for my multipla auction and it only has 136,000 miles. I'd never done the calculation from kilometers and I was like, wow, that's pretty good. In middle school, a formative time in my life, I ran track and field and a girl looked at me. Then another girl looked at her friend and said, don't look at him, he's got chicken legs. Well, not with Chubby's. Chubby's accentuates my thighs and legs in a way that makes me not look like chicken legs, but like a muscular man. The fit is just unreal. Four way stretch that works as well swimming laps as it does lounging poolside. They feel broken in. And yeah, my legs look good. And this is a big one. Chubby's is celebrating 15 years. The original shorts that define proper leg shorts are back. Same iconic fit, same comfort, first design, same thigh high confidence that built the brand with over 2.6 million customers that clearly know how to keep the vibes high and thighs happy. For a limited time, Chubby's is giving our listeners 20% off with code Doug@chubbyshorts.com that's 20% off with code Doug. Give your thighs the VIP treatment they deserve with Chubby's and support the show. While you're at it. Say goodbye to chicken legs. Chubbies.com all right, move on to the next news story.
C
I'm gonna miss you. LLC 500 US class.
A
It's refreshed.
C
New S class.
B
Much like the Tesla Model S, it has undergone a lot of changes. As Ryan might argue, this is more.
A
Changes than the Model S ever had.
B
It looks really subtle at first, but literally everything is different. The steering wheel, there's more screens every spasia.
C
Specifically the S class is finally getting the hyperscreen which had debuted in eqs and I don't remember what the latest is on eq, whether they're completely cancelling it or roaring it back.
A
It'll change tomorrow, whatever we say.
C
But either way, the hyperscreen has now made its way into the S Class. Also, heated seatbelts, heated seatbelts.
B
The hood emblem is illuminated. There's a lot of, like, a lot of good gimmicks, for lack of a better word. But they've taken this car and this platform so far. There's really no room for improvement. Like they've, they've won the race, they've climbed Kilimanjaro. Where do you go from here? Alex Honnold climbing up that building in Taiwan.
C
I do think about this a lot. Like, you know, it's funny, like we've been talking about the death of the large luxury sedans. Acura rl, Jaguar xj, Audi aa. Like they're Lexus ls. They're all slowly. Yep, not this one.
B
The S Class is more than a car, though.
C
It's a brand.
B
It's like a whole lifestyle.
C
At one point when I worked for Porsche, I remember the head of product planning told me, BMW is known for the three series, Mercedes is known for the S Class. It's a little different now because the SUVs have come, but Mercedes is still like the S Class. And this, as when all the other luxury sedans are dead, this will still be prevailing amongst them all.
A
Do we like the new headlights?
C
I think it looks great.
B
Yeah, I agree.
C
I think it looks nicely updated. I think it's attractive.
B
Oddly, a lot of people online sort of were mixed on the reaction.
C
Every single time a new car is shown for the first time, people online complain. I just thought it was every time without a surprising.
B
I agree. But this is to me a pretty incremental difference. Like you have to have them right next to each other to tell the difference. So for people to be like, oh, it's awful, it's like it's barely noticeable, barely noticeable.
C
But I do think there will probably be minor. The current S Class is one of the great cars that I have. It's amazing. And there's an E performance version with 850 horsepower, 1,200 pound feet of torque. That's going to be 38 grand in six years. It is such a great product range and it's such a great car. And now it's got heated seatbelts and.
A
Please buy one new so that Nick can buy it for 30 grand. The heated seatbelts, by the way. So, you know, heated Armrests, heated steering.
C
Wheel, heated seats, heated panels.
A
Normal. Heated seat belts are new.
C
Yep.
A
They also have a safety benefit. Can you guess what it is?
C
They keep you warm so that you do not freeze to death in your S class.
A
Yeah. They keep you warm so you can remove your coat and outer layers and so the seat belt fits more snugly.
C
The giant heating system in the car doesn't have that benefit. The heated seat.
A
Correct. I'm not joking. That was part of their pr.
C
That's the kind of dumb crap that people repeat on Reddit in 20 years. No, it also did this. It's like those. Remember those tail lights that were the horizontal stack tail lights on the 124s and stuff? They had those little cutouts supposedly to dissipate dirt. People still repeat that. It has never made any sense. And by the way, Mercedes stopped doing it. So if they were so good at dissipating dirt, you think they would have kept it up? Well, people are still like, no, it's there to dissipate dirt. Okay, move on to the next news story. The ACUR RDX being canceled. You don't think this is a big news story? I think this is a massive news.
A
It's a huge news story. That's their only car. The hottest segment.
C
What percentage of sales is the rdx? Acura sales.
A
Acura sold last year. The mdx, the adx, briefly. The tl.
C
Okay, I didn't ask you to name the Acuras, but good job. Good job.
A
30%. 30%.
C
30% of Acura sales is the RDX and they are canceling it and not returning.
A
Wait, was that right?
C
Yeah, it is also on the pod dock, so I'm sure. What a surprise.
A
No one reads that. For the record, it is not. But. But.
C
Cut this part out.
A
I will not have my integrity questioned.
C
Integra is the Acura. You forgot, by the way.
B
Yeah.
C
30% of Acura sales last year were the RDX. They're canceling now. They're bringing it back in 28 as a hybrid. But I thought this was interesting. Can you imagine Lexus or Mercedes being like, we'll be back in two years with the S Class. We'll be back in two years with the RX Subaru. We'll be back in two years with the Outback. I think that this, even though it's a minor thing, is kind of an illustration of how high of use Acura and the level of investment and interest they have in continuing this brand. And they claim they have enough inventory to sell through the End of this year and then they're going to take a little break also. And then. Yeah, I know. And then they're going to come out with the new one and it's like this is. You don't have a small midsize crossover like this is it also you can.
A
Just kind of slow down production if you have enough inventory. Nobody.
C
Well remember though, they're coming out and I don't know exactly which what's made in what factory, but they're coming out with a brand new mid size electric crossover. Are they? The rsx, remember, which will be dead in the water.
A
Which we've seen during car week last year.
C
Yeah, well no one is going to buy that. And the theory is Acura. Acura's been in the press. Oh, we're canceling the rdx. But we're confident we're going to improve year over year in sales. Oh yeah, but the rsx you're going to sell six.
A
The ADX is what's going to happen.
C
I saw one on the road yesterday.
A
So I was shocked.
C
This you cannot get away with. The R&DX and the MDX are the core. And the concept that Honda feels that it's like okay to take a two year gap. I would be livid if I was an Acura dealer. Absolutely livid that this is happening. Yes.
A
Remember when automakers would just extend the other product line to overlap? Yeah. The Malibu Classic.
C
Malibu Classic, et cetera.
A
Should have done that.
C
I do wonder about whether we should start an Acura death watch. We've been critical of Honda on this podcast for being conservative with their vehicles and they have this great core product thing and then they're afraid to invest outside that. It's starting to get to a point though where it's becoming detrimental. Like they are literally leaving. It used to be like they don't want to try too much because they might lose money. Now they're literally leaving stuff on the table. And if they don't think Acura is a viable brand, this is how you signal it.
A
Agreed. It's insane to cancel your largest segment car at the 30% of your volume.
C
30% of your volume. MDX probably another 30, 40%.
A
It feels like killing it would be too like assertive a decision by Honda.
C
Time off. I know this is not a major news story. The rdx not really an enthusiast car. But it does speak to me again about Hondas being too conservative and again about whether the Acura brand really truly lasts. I didn't realize Acura is only selling about 140,000 cars a year. It's really not a strong brand.
B
What's odd though is compared to the Nissan and Infiniti situation, Honda's brand is incredibly strong. And I still think for normies, Acura's brand is really strong because it's a deviant or variation of Honda.
C
And Honda has so much love for its dependability. I truly think if Honda really invested hard in Acura, they could have a pro.
B
Honestly, I don't even think they need to work that hard at it. Just take the Honda products and badge, engineer them. It's fine. I want an Acura Pilot. My wife would drive that.
A
The MDX Ex.
C
That is the impression.
B
Well, then we'll look at that.
C
They need more car.
A
It's a good looking car.
C
They need this product for sure. And they've had some false starts thinking, oh, the Integra is going to work, oh, this and that. They definitely just need to be in more segments with SUVs. And I think that they're having trouble. BMW can get away with it because they make cool cars that people want to get. If Acura making eight SUVs is probably not likely. Nonetheless, there is something here that is better than what is happening. And it's interesting to me that they're not even willing to put investment into continuing this very popular car.
A
It's also a shame the RDX is a dated product. I get why they don't want to sell anymore. Have you seen the interior?
B
Yeah, it is.
C
That's true. All Honda interiors. Have you seen an Odyssey interior, dude? Yeah, there's one.
A
Came out the same year. But like the Civic is so competitive. Incredibly competitive. The Accord, competitive product for now. The CRV is still a competitive product.
C
Are you kidding me?
A
The Pilot is a brand new product. They've invested in their core lineup. Except for the Acura RDX interior, which still has a screen and like a console.
C
Both of those cars have old interiors. They are not putting the investment in Acura. You again. I wonder if we should be starting an Acura Infiniti death watch. Initially it was just an Infinity death watch. We're watching the clock on that. Now we add Acura, move on to the next news story.
A
Oh, this is a C8 Corvette. That might be.
C
It's like a Boomer Gallery.
A
That might be. That might be a Corvette Grand Sport in admiral blue, which was the color of the C4 Grand Sport with the same stripes.
C
Well, the stripe on the C4 was in the front, but.
A
Okay, okay, but you got to make the look okay. For the car. Apparently there's going to be a Grand Sport coming for the 2027 model year.
C
Okay.
A
There's some, some. Somebody saw it doing some testing and.
C
There'S talk that it will have a new ls.
A
Correct. There's talk that it will have a new naturally aspirated 6.7 liter LS6 is what apparently they're calling it.
C
We've already had LS6. You think they're going to bring back the LS?
A
There'll be another. I don't know, you know, who knows? Yeah. The, the, their updated LS which will be called the LSX, apparently 409 cubic inches. They expect about 550 horsepower. So like between the current, current regular Stingray and the E Ray, you know, the C8.
C
Don't look now, but the C8 has been on sale for six years. And general Motors, who we've been a little critical of from time to time, has done an amazing job of keeping this car relevant. The ZR1X. There's still people clamoring, knocking down my door trying to get a ZR1X video. Then there's going to come out with another version of it. Which by the way, Grand Sport was always kind of an end of the line car. So you kind of wanted.
A
Yeah, C7. Grand Sport was then too C7 for.
C
But man, the C8 is still. Feels. This still feels like hot. Yep. Like still. Yep.
A
It truly does. It still is competitive in the segment also.
C
Yeah. Very compelling car to this day.
A
Yes.
C
Like really good to drive even six years later.
B
Yep.
A
Also they're getting a. They. They've retained value by Corvette standards, but they're getting a little more.
C
What are they selling? Pull up, pull up some C8. We sell some C8 lately.
A
We sold some C8.
C
What do we got? What are they selling for?
A
We've tried to sell some C8s.
C
Okay. 59 for a 20 with 19,000 miles around 60.
A
I mean that was modified. That was modified. Here's unmodified convertible. 60 coupes in the 50.
C
60 honestly is holding its value pretty damn well for a six year old. I mean, what were C7s doing in 20?
A
I mean for context, this 2024 was. Had an 81 sticker now in the mid-50s or something. That's pretty solid.
C
I'm into the C8 still. I've loved it since the day it came out. You know what? I'm going to say something controversial. I don't even think it looks bad. I think it looks good.
A
And soon it'll be a new engine and a new color. I don't know.
B
And the Grand Sport's also cool just because I feel like to some ways appeals to the younger audience. Like we all played video games with the C4 Grand Sport. Like I'm excited for this like and I'm not your typical Corvette buyer.
C
What if they did a man manual? Oh, that'd be so cool.
A
Can I say the E Ray is an appealing view erase appeal.
C
The market does not market hates it. No surprise.
A
But it's an appealing vehicle.
C
The performance numbers on E Ray are unbelievable. And also personally I think it might be the best looking. Yeah, it's just like a very simple clean look that like the Z06 is obviously more exciting and desirable as a car. But you start adding stuff that really kind of detracts from the eay is nice also electric motor.
B
And the Grand Sport is supposed to be like more like a 911R right. Like the driver focus it was more.
C
It'S always been more a Carrera T.
B
Maybe like it's a strip driver focused.
C
Without kind of necessarily some of the crazy power.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
GTS is probably where it would land.
B
In the 911 Porsche equivalent in terms of like they're really developing from just the 911 to like a full lineup of special vehicles and trips all of which are desirable. And the Porsche or the Corvette people are the same way as the Porsche people about options and stickers and are.
C
Apparently willing to pay huge money. I mean the ZR1 and 01X are like real money cars.
A
Also insane performance.
C
Insane. Insane. Excited for this if it happens.
A
Weeknights in my house are chaos. Juggling work, dog walks, activities, maybe a workout if I'm lucky. And then suddenly it's 6:30 and my wife is asking what's for dinner. That's why we've been using every plate. It takes the thinking, the arguing and the grocery store sticker shock completely out of weeknight cooking. The ingredients show up pre portioned, the recipes are and dinners on the table in about 30 minutes without turning the kitchen into a disaster zone. And the menu is way better than you'd expect for the price. Stuff like crispy Buffalo ranch chicken, caramelized onion smashburgers, plus more chicken dishes, more veggie forward options and tons of global flavors. They've got over 35 choices every week so you're not stuck rotating the same three meals. And the best part is the cost. Every plate is cheaper than the grocery store and about half the price of Takeout with straightforward pricing and no surprises and it actually works for real life. Three out of four customers says it gets kids to try new foods and almost everyone says it makes dinner way less stressful. Which yeah, I believe it. Try everyplate and get $2.99 per meal on your first box, plus free steak for a month. Go to everyplate.com podcast and use code Cars Steak to claim your offer. That's cars plural. Steak@everyplate.com podcast for $2.99 per meal on your first box or plus free steak for a month. Offer varies by plan. One free 10 ounce serving of steak per box for four weeks with an active subscription. Ditch the dinner time dilemmas with every plate.
C
Next story please. Ah Nick, you see this?
B
Another, another entry to the goal pool.
C
The Hyundai Santa Cruz is being canceled. This has not been confirmed yet but I'm gonna confirm it right here, right now based on the sales numbers.
A
Can I read you what they said in a release to Motor1? The Santa Cruz Sport Adventure vehicle continues to be a valued ongoing member of the Hyundai product portfolio.
B
Sell a valued. That sounds like a, a performance improvement for an underperforming employee.
A
We do not comment off. They also then said that this car helped them develop the new midsize body on frame truck.
B
We thank you for its contributions and wish it a soft landing wherever it.
A
May end up next.
C
We'll write it a letter of recommendation.
A
So yeah going to be that you.
B
You'Ll continue to get benefits for the next one to two miles.
C
Cobra. The the Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz was cool and honestly I think it was pretty desirable. Yeah, I always knew this would be its fate. Everyone who's ever tried to mess around with something that is a non standard pickup truck has ended up not the Ridgeline. The original Ridgeline like the Baja. Like this was always going to happen. The Maverick was. They came out like the exact same time and the Maverick was always a much more more practical, realistic large sales number vehicle. Whereas this was always more of a lifestyle car. One of their pitches though about this was that the entire front end is basically a Tucson and so it probably didn't like. It probably wasn't that difficult to develop.
A
So I'm into it also. They sold 155,000 Mavericks in 20. 25. 25,000 cruisers.
C
Yeah, it was never intended to be that level. The pricing was very different.
B
It's not that bad.
A
25,000 of these.
C
It's not that bad. If you're Hyundai, it's not worth it.
A
They're coming out with a body on frame, midsize.
C
Ultimately, the big news is that Hyundai is canceling this to make way for much like the original Hyundai Genesis kind of made way for the Genesis brand. Like, there's always. With the Koreans, there's always seems to be like a little toe dip into the pool before they like, cannonball.
A
It could have gone. I'm so glad Nick didn't say that. It would have been unairable.
C
It's true, though. They've done this in a lot. There's been a lot of ways that this has happened. Right. Like the big Genesis and then There was the G9. It became a brand Veracruz. And then they came out with the Palisade. Like, there's all these like, we're gonna try this and see how it goes. And then we're gonna try to do it actually, like, big. And the next one will be the thing.
B
You know what? The only brand that I think did this well, the Ford Explorer Sport Track. Yeah, it was kind of like a.
A
Which they followed up with. With what?
C
Well, it's two generations.
B
I thought that car was cool, it was desirable. It was, like, compelling.
C
It was hot at the time. It was hot.
A
The Avalanche probably exists because of it.
C
The Avalanche definitely exists because of it. That whole segment was spawned at that time and the sport track started it all. However, I would argue it had the same fate, which was like, you can't do much with it and eventually you just have to.
A
The Ridgeline, though, still exists.
C
Well, but the first gen, the second gen Ridgeline is very different from the first Ridgeline. Oh, wow.
A
In every single measurable way.
C
The first one was cooler. They didn't sell many.
A
Nope.
C
Santa Cruz. Dead door handles. Alive?
B
No. No.
A
Well, dead, maybe. China has banned the style of door handles popularized by Tesla, where they're hidden and electronic only. So basically what they've actually done is they've mandated that starting in 2027, all vehicles must have mechanical releases inside and out for doors.
B
Is this a safety feature?
A
They've had a couple of pretty high profile crashes where the car then lost power entirely and they couldn't open the doors. Like first responders couldn't open the doors at all. Passengers inside couldn't open the doors.
C
I'm a little confused. So the Model S, the door handle, you walk up to the car, they pop out in this door handle, which is from a Model Y, it doesn't do that, but it is electronic. You push part of it.
A
But I think it's not a mechanical. Mechanical, yeah.
C
It's definitely Electronic.
A
So you, if there would need to be like a mechanical. Right. You pull it further and then. Which is by the way, how some work on this.
C
Automakers have been going crazy experimenting with all sorts of different door handle technology. In part because shaving the door handle, which essentially is what this does, is an aero benefit. And by having this be a thing, I wonder what effect that will have on future door handles. If probably truly some, if we go back to normal door handles again, I.
A
Mean you can still have them be mostly hidden or like have a little bit of a spot where you can grab it or some external, some third or second door handle that allows for that. I get it. From a safety perspective, there's also been some high profile ones in the US And I wouldn't be shocked if the US follows suit in their own way.
C
I'm going to tell you one thing. You know what car had electronic door handles first? C6 Corvette, maybe the C5 with an.
A
Interior mechanical release and an exterior mechanical release.
C
Yeah, I don't actually know if they were first. People are going to be like, no, actually such and such was first. But I remember like in the C6 it was like this is a bizarre, like you push a button to get out. Like whoa.
A
It was wild. There have been real issues with these and so it's not surprising, it's not great.
C
Tesla, interestingly in the front doors does have a mechanical release. In the rear doors does not have a mechanical release.
A
And in some other cars, I think the Mach E is one of these, there is a mechanical release, but you have to remove a door panel which maybe if your car's on fire isn't.
C
Something we'll have to read the Chinese regulation closely to see. Now the reason this is a new story for us is because whatever China dictates on these cars is going to end up affecting cars that are sold in the US market too.
A
I have no doubt.
C
No automakers aren't going to develop multiple door handles. So we're going to see some changes. One thing that I will note, people in the north are going to be celebrating this. You know, every time these electronic pop out door handles and electronic, what happens when it freezes? I mock them, but actually it's a good point.
B
Yeah.
A
I will say in China, 60% of the top 100 selling models have door handles. That would be impact.
C
I'm not surprised. It's like the hot thing. And basically every car rivians are like this. Lucids are like this. You know what's not like this is the Kia K4 hatchback, which looks good. We get that over there. All right, next. Oh, Hellcat Durango. Hellcat Durango. Lawsuit is dead. I read the whole thing. It was great stuff. So back in 20 they come out with the Hellcat Durango, which by the way, I still think is probably my favorite Hellcat car.
B
I'm obsessed.
A
Yes.
C
It's so cool.
A
100%.
C
Like, what? What the hell was that?
A
I remember when you reviewed it in like, yeah, yeah.
C
Amazing situation. Obviously come out with the car and apparently there was advertising that said it was going to be limited edition.
A
The last call model implied that it.
C
Would only be 3000 units.
B
Subtly hinted last call.
C
So people bought the car, paid over sticker because they thought it was going to be a super limited thing. Obviously what ended up happening is they sold more of them, which I think is crazy on its face. To begin with, they sold more of.
A
Them or there was a lawsuit that.
C
They continued selling them. Like, I can't believe people bought them. I can't believe they came out with them. I'm thrilled it exists. So the lawsuit, the owners sued Dodge saying, hey, wait a minute, you said you'd have a limited car. The judge rejected. The case was dismissed entirely because the plaintiffs failed to show that the automaker intended to break the promise at the time the original statements were made. Boy, if only I could get that to work with my children. Hey, listen, I know I lied to you, but I didn't intend. When I first said it, I thought it was gonna happen.
A
It is kind of interesting. Basically, they didn't plan to make another one, but you have to allow the manufacturer to change their mind. But Tim Kuniskas, who's now again in charge of Dodge, said the 2021 Dodge Durango is a single model year run, ensuring it will be a special sought after performance suv. You've only got one shot to buy. So I get that.
C
How does the automaker get away with this? It's so stupid.
A
I get the anger.
B
That does sound like a use case car salesman pushing it hard.
C
We're going to do five many more model years. I will say to Tim Kiskis's credit, the 21 model year was just a single model year run. But then they also did a 22. What?
A
He didn't say they skipped the year, right?
C
Yeah, they, I think they did. What he didn't say was there was also going to be a 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26. But that, that 20, which by the way, they were also single model year runs can we be you only had one chance to buy a 24 Durango Hellcat.
A
I'm going to come to Tim.
C
His defense, that's crazy.
A
He thought at the time that there was no world that the federal administration would allow him to sell this incredibly poor economy high emission vehicle for longer than they did.
C
Sitting there he's thinking not only not only is Biden going to kill this car but there is no way that anyone is even going to buy it.
A
Right. They're going to want the Dodge Wagoneer s or the Jeep wagon era and then they didn't.
B
The other part of the story. Do you feel bad for the people that are trying to speculate and make money off of a Durango? Like of course that didn't work out well for you. What did you expect?
C
You know what?
A
Fair point.
C
You know what the irony is? I bet eventually it will work out. Like I look at some of these super high performance limited edition. I mean not like the stock market but you look at sort of the GMC Typhoon type cars where these super limited edition which this even though they made it for many more model years will remain a limited car. I'm looking at Trackhawk prices. We just had a Durango Hellcat sell the on the site the other day for 55 with mods. Yeah, mods and miles.
A
Miles Y I did not intentionally call.
B
A different site like there's still money.
C
And I bet you that. I bet you that if you truly were speculating and you parked it and you did no miles like people did with their demons. What have you done? Just keep going.
B
Updating a slack as it requires hourly. Just pull up that for no reason. Yeah but just I mean that's such a. If you were advising someone to say I want become a car flipper here's a good asset for you to invest in Dodge Durango. I mean just like it is the worst advice you could have. The only one get a ca it gets something like a Durango.
A
Don't forget about the one that you should flip.
C
Uh huh. That's right.
B
Like it's not illegal to.
C
This was a flipper car that was.
A
And the dude made Coranda because I.
C
Reviewed it the second time had those great wheels. Sorry for you Durango owners. I totally feel your pain but the good news is you have a Durango.
B
Hellcat in your garage. Yeah, that is pretty good constellation for this.
C
All right, next news story. I can't believe we're still doing the news. Toyota has teased a three row. Nobody cares about it.
A
It might be a Minivan. But it also might be an electric Highlander.
C
What are we saying? Minivan. We think it's got a little.
A
What? The door says minivan to me, but it is almost certainly an electric Highlander.
C
Electric Highlander is a big deal.
A
Or a Highlander replacement.
C
General Electric Highlander would be a big deal. I thought Toyota wasn't investing in electric.
A
I guess we'll find they have the bz. It might just be a normal Highlander.
C
Well, what is a gear lever? Does a gear lever show? Is it a hybrid or electric? It doesn't seem to have a gear lever, does it?
A
Right. So that could be the gear lever.
C
I'm saying ev.
A
To me, a redesigned Sienna would be nice. It's not an old product. I just don't think it looks nice.
C
Yeah.
B
And so I really support it.
C
It's good, but it's the best one. But by far.
A
All right, that's the story.
C
Three row Toyota coming. Maybe.
A
By the way, I want to say before I move to the next story.
C
I can't believe we still have more Nissan.
A
I know. Incredibly, we have one more Nissan. Today was at Nada, which is a large dealer thing, and they showed apparently pictures of the new Xterra.
C
Okay.
A
I've been trying to find Lee's pictures of the new Exterra, so maybe we'll talk about it next week.
C
New Xterra coming.
B
Nissan was also talking a big game about growing 50% in sales.
A
They're planning on not 50% next year, but they do have pretty ambitious growth rates.
C
You get down to here. Luck. 50% growth isn't that hard to do.
B
Yeah, I guess that's true.
C
And by the way, new Xterra, you and me could make one in our garage. You take a frontier, you paper mache a body onto it. This is not difficult. It's like what they did with the Santa Cruz.
A
Yep. Correct.
C
And they've been selling 25,000 a year.
A
They did the opposite.
C
They did the opposite. Final news story. Ford is doing something with the Chinese. Okay, I want to move on to the Todd cars.
A
I'm okay with that. That's fine.
C
I want to move on to the Todd cars segment, which is brought to you by Nick's YouTube channel. Nick, Rochelle, Roan. Is that what it is or is it Crazy Nick? Crazy Nick. We call him Nick Roshan. He's got an slr, folks. Come on, subscribe.
A
And the SLR broke down.
B
It did a little works again.
A
Don't tell them that. Make them go.
C
No, the SLR broke down. What's going to happen next. I'm going to lose. Find out.
A
I'm going to lose my YouTube channel.
B
If you're bidding on cars and bids, whether it's a pristine 90s icon like the Fiat Multiple, a high horsepower resto mod or a manual swap Lamborghini Murcia Lago, you already know these aren't just used cars, they're pieces of automotive culture. And that's exactly why regular car insurance just doesn't cut it. That's why Hagerty is the official insurance provider of cars and bids. And they insure all of my fun cars too. They're enthusiasts who happen to sell insurance and they actually understand what makes these cars special. Hagerty offers guaranteed value car coverage, which means you can agree on your car's value up front. If there's a total loss, that's exactly what you get. No depreciation, no arguing, no guessing games. They also make claims painless there gestures, no classic and collector cars. So you can choose your own specialty shop or even get paid to do the work yourself. And unlike standard policies, Hagerty understands these cars are meant to be driven, whether that's a weekend cruise, a cars and coffee run or a road trip for ice cream. Without restrictive mileage limits. If you're mid build, they've got you covered too. Hagerty's vehicle under construction coverage automatically increases your insured value by 10% every quarter. So your policy keeps up with your progress. Plus you get the Hagerty Drivers Club with roadside assistance, including Flatbeds, Valuation tools and their award winning magazine. I personally have used that flatbed roadside assistance many times with my Bentley Arnage and I can tell you that alone was a game changer. So when you win your next auction, protect it the right, right way. Visit hagerty.com for a quote today. Haggerty never stop driving.
C
Okay, I want to. In the tart car segment, the only thing I want to discuss today, me personally. Here's the 55 station wagon. Okay.
B
No, no, don't, don't.
C
It's different from yours.
B
Cut it.
C
I'm on the.
B
Sean, Sean, make a note. Cut.
C
Pull up. Filippo, pull up. We never sold one that I. It.
B
It is at $8,000 which is way too much if you're thinking of jumping in.
C
We have an E55, radically different.
A
But you're talking about the, the SG.
C
I want to talk about that.
B
This is. I want it. No one else bid.
C
You don't. You've never sold one?
A
No, but I'll pull up this.
C
No no, no, no.
A
Close enough.
C
I want this body.
A
Yeah.
C
E55 wagon with a third row, left hand drive. This is. Yeah, if you find one in the uk, I'll consider it. If you find a Hong Kong domestic market example, we'll talk.
A
I've noted because that one was right hand drive.
C
So the E55 wagon on this body. So the 210 body, I need either a 2000 or a 2001 was only sold as an E55 wagon overseas. I need one with a third row and it needs to be silver. But only a post facelift car. We're fighting a lot of pre facelift cars at third rows. I only want a 2000 or a 2001. Now I'm going to do this like I did with the Arena993 Turbo. Okay. I'm going to start blasting it out in every pot. I want. Yeah, send Nick a message. I want a 2000, 2001 E55 station wet wagon with a third row. Okay. Does everybody understand? Do you understand what I'm looking for? So when people.
B
I understand. And you're going to get flooded with non examples of what you just described. Different generations, different motors.
C
I got a pre facelift. I got a black one. No, 2000. 2001 silver car with a third row, E55 only we're not doing E430s if you have one. Sean. Carsandbids.com s e a n@carsandbids.com do you understand?
A
Sounds right.
C
I don't. Don't say anything about his bad color G wagon. We're going to move on from that today. E55 Wagon, if it's in Europe, I don't care. Asia, I will import it. Find me the car.
B
On a related note, the E55 currently on your site, the next generation I'm very much into. This one is high mileage. 200 high mileage is air quotes.
C
Are you buying this?
B
I intend to potentially bid.
A
Wait, this is okay.
B
It's got some dings on the carfax.
C
These are reliable cars.
B
It does not have a third row, but yeah, it's got service. I really like this car. I drove a different one over the past weekend.
C
This one has a Rentech ECU tune.
B
I know, I know.
C
And you were saying the one you drove you didn't think was fast enough?
B
Well, I mean this also has like a supercharger pulley, a couple things. So this one and you have a B5RS4 on the site. Both of them. I've never bought a car on the site and I really want to fix that this year. So I'm refreshing my watch.
C
What's the RS4? The RS4.
B
The RS4 is great. It's owned by the founder of Vivid Race Racing, which was like the site. I'm sure they're still very popular, but so it's. It's like owned by like the type of enthusiasts you want to buy from. It's got a bunch of nice mods. I know who we disagree on what that means, but 034 motorsports, like bushings and like minor stuff that improves just how tight and.
C
No, this. I agree.
B
This is 9.
C
I would put the rear wiper back on.
A
Yep.
B
No, I mean arrow, you know.
A
Oh, yeah, right. Yeah.
C
Notably Aerocar. I think this is the greatest Audi of all time.
B
I. I drove one while I was in Arizona and I love, loved it.
A
The R8 exists.
C
The R8 is next.
A
Yeah, I'll take that.
C
Norwegian plates. This, this is. You loved it. You loved it.
B
The problem with the R8 is everyone's like, oh, you should have got a Huracan. There's no equivalent for the B5RS4. We're like, oh, you should have gotten a cooler wagon. Find me one.
C
Find me one. Yeah, there ain't one. There ain't one that drives better. You enjoyed driving it?
A
I drove it.
B
I loved it. It was so usable and enjoyable and pleasant. Yet it had like great turbo boost and it kicked.
C
And you're like, it's also just the perfect size. And by then they had dialed in the steering feel. This is what I had wished the RS2 was when I bought it. And I still think the R, it looks better, looks cooler, is cooler. It does not even come close to driving as well as this car. It's not even close, maybe.
B
But I think this is also aged incredibly well inside and out on the inside. It has the right amount of nostalgia, but it's still a nice place to be on the outside. It's special enough that any person in the cars recognizes that it's not just an S4.
C
Totally. I think that this is truly, I think the best time, one of the all time. Great. Powertrain is amazing. The steering feel is amazing. I always loved even a B5, a 4, but like, this was like the ultimate iteration of the platform. And you know, a point that someone made to me the. In our comments. The press color for this car is silver.
B
No. Really?
C
Sure. Like, think about all the. All the materials, the advertisements, everything from back in the day. It was silver. It was not the. Now everyone There was a. Everyone wants the blue and the blue is like the out.
B
It's such a premium.
C
Yeah.
B
I mean it's not like 10% more. It's like.
C
I know tens of thousands like Ford GT Heritage.
B
Yeah, it's, it's a lot to swallow.
C
So you're going to buy either this or the E55.
A
Maybe you got.
C
I don't want maybes, Nick. We doing this?
B
Well, it I depends on how high the bidding goes. Do I intend to throw my hat in the ring?
C
Yes. Nick.
A
Have you bid on either? Nick, Go bid.
B
You know what, Nick?
C
Step up. Step up to the plate.
B
With the multiple going for sale, I, I, I do suddenly feel the need to replace it with something. And unlike the multiple, I want something with a little more power.
A
Yeah.
B
A little bit more driving dynamics.
C
Your only fun car right now is your SLR, right?
B
No, I mean I think the P38 is really fun, but in a different.
C
No, no. So your only fun. Oh, thank you. I've been trying to push him. I want the audience to know I've been trying to push him into a Diablo. There's a Diablo for sale that is not listed, that is available to Nick that I have been begging him to pursue. He's not going to do it. He's going to regret it couple years. He's going to sell his slr, he's going to go after Diablo. Then it will be priced out. You will not be able to afford anymore. And I will rub this in your face that you could have had it.
A
Can we know that a Diablo and a 205,000 mile E55 are on a different price back?
B
This is not important to Doug.
A
Yeah, but Diablos are going up in 30x difference.
C
Diablos are going up in value like my Ford GT. Right. I have made 150 grand in that car. You're never going to make 150 grand on an E55 wagon. But if you have a 2000 or a 2001 model silver with the third row, send a. I'm so serious about this. I will buy it today. Seanarsandbins.com S E A N Sean, the Irish spelling. Do you understand?
A
Oh, the more common selling we still know.
C
Okay, there's that. Nick, what else you got for us? You got.
B
I came back from Arizona car week.
C
You did?
B
That was really fun. As someone who lives in an online auction world, seeing the in person is a really interesting event.
C
Well, for one much worse of course.
B
They're just different. Like it's not like online and Offline versions of the same thing. Like, it's just totally the way. First of all, it's really fast, right? Like, you've got seconds to make decisions. Like, I wish you had a minute between each bid to like think about it, the energy of the room. But then also like, it's like the LA Auto Show. Like, there's an exhibitor hall. You could buy hot tubs, cigars, get tattoos.
C
You can buy all that stuff.
B
I have two friends that bought hot tubs there, oddly enough. And I think it was like that we didn't win the car. But like, I've been thinking of a hot tub anyways. It's like this Vegas level of just like all your logic goes out the window and you're just like, I'm buying something.
C
Yeah, I agree. I totally agree. I love our site and I think there's actually benefits for both buyer and seller on a platform such as ours. However, there is something fun about the electric feel of being in the room at a physical auction. Sometimes that leads to results that people later regret. Buyers and sellers, to be honest, I think having the real time to like really think through the car can be significantly beneficial. But it's fun. Yeah, it's more fun. It's more of a spectacle.
B
There was, without naming names, a handful of cars that I saw that were bought on either cars and bids or bring the trailer sold at Bear Jackson for less than they pay. You know what I mean? Like, it can go either direction. It's not that one is better or worse necessarily. It depends on on the car. But the experience of going to one was really fun.
C
Certainly interesting to check out even. Even if you're a huge fan of our platform, even if you work for our platform, even if you like the bring the trailer, it's worth spending time going to online.
B
The other thing that I'll get on your soapbox as a non cars and bids employee, that I can say that you all maybe. Can't people complain about buyer's fees on cars and bids or bring the trailer. It was $500 to register, just to register to bid for the privilege. Then I had to show proof of funds, including like or take out a loan in order to be approved to bid up to a certain amount.
C
You make crazy Nick. Show proof of funds. You're gonna run into some sketchy stuff. All right, here's one bank account. And here's another bank account. And if you add those two together and then think about how much credit line I have in this bank account.
B
Yeah, there's A buyer fee and a seller fee, both of which are 10 to 12%, depending on that. So like the 4 to 5 or the. Sorry, 5%. Is it 5%? I should know. This is a bargain. So like, yeah, complain all you want. This isn't something that the online auction houses made up. In fact, they do it way cheaper.
A
So much it's insane.
C
Huge, huge benefit.
B
It does factor in like for me, when I was thinking all those, I'm like, okay, immediately add at least 10%.
C
Huge benefit to buyer and seller. Honestly, buyer obviously pays less, but seller gets more for the car on these platforms. Sometimes you will see results on the physic at the physical auctions. Like, oh, this sold for way more than you saw it at. Bring the trailer cars and bids. Well, let's start playing with the numbers. Right, because there's a 10% buyer's fee, there's a 10% seller's fee. Those are factored in. Right. How much more would the buyer have paid if there were no fees? Well, you'll never know because those guys make sure to get theirs whereas we democratize the platform. We're basically running a charity, a non profit organization.
B
Sure.
A
Also, you know, the table in the back of the room, less likely to bid on Carson B. Yeah, yeah.
C
That's another thing that happens at the, at the physical auctions.
A
Obviously not accusing anybody in particular.
C
The lampshade in the back places more bids than anybody else.
B
The, the auctioneer also won't ding the rearview mirror as they're pulling off the stage.
C
Wild.
A
So an F50 got purchased at one of the auctions, not during cars. The person driving it out who are just like random people from the local civic society at something like that hit it on, on, on a wall smash like Doug did.
C
I would want so much remedy. I would want like an unbelievable amount of arbitration at that at that point, especially because it's all over Instagram. Okay, I want to move on now to. Oh, you want to talk about something. The Abarth and the multiple. Do we want to talk about how they're for sale, desperate for people to buy them?
A
Yeah, pretty much. I keep my own car. I, by the way, I want to be really clear. I've added a comment in this, in my auction where I describe every single thing that I can think of that's wrong with the car. Like quite at length.
C
Wait, wait. Go, go, go down. I want to see all five of.
A
Them comment all five of the things I have done. The bare minimum.
B
Oh, wow, he's bragging about his firehawks.
A
I. Yeah.
C
I've done the bare minimum to maintain this car.
A
I want to make that really clear. One time one of the lights stopped working and I let it sit for a year until Kenan borrowed it. And then he put it. And you fuse it. That's the level we're talking about.
C
Man. This is. This is a great. It's fun. It's toss space able, easy to drive.
A
That is embarrassing.
C
But regardless, there's some smoke coming. This car has.
A
I haven't seen that happen.
C
There are no known issues. The car has smoke coming out of the t. Acceleration. There is an oil leak in the driveway.
A
No.
C
Maybe this flaps around in the.
B
Seems like something I would have ghost written for him.
C
Did you get Tim Kiskis to write this about the 21?
A
I want.
C
This is your one chance to buy this perfect car. Except for the oil leak.
B
The other important thing here is the.
A
Oil leak I have not seen happen. I want to be clear.
C
What do you mean you have not seen them?
A
There was a shop note from the first time I got an oil change saying that there's evidence of an oil leak in the tray or whatever. I have not. I've parked that car in my driveway for three years. I've not seen any oil on the ground. The oil level has never changed, etc. Similar change. No, no, no. The oil changed the oil levels.
B
Say no more.
A
The snow coming out of the tailpipes was weird. I. I had friends tell me this was happening, but then we filmed a whole video where we drag raced.
C
Filipo, I'm going to be honest with you. Nothing happened. I don't want to get into the specifics in the car. It is already vastly higher than it deserves to be.
B
Mr. Magoo sees nothing wrong with the car.
C
We're good at 5,100 bucks. Someone is doing you a favor today on this car.
A
I totally agree.
C
Okay, we got to move on to the market report, which is sponsored. Sponsored by the Nick YouTube channel. The Nick YouTube channel.
B
Can we actually. I want it to be sponsored by N N. Nick on cars and bids. Please go follow my seller profile.
C
Oh, you want to be like, I'm.
B
Number five and Filippo's number four on the leaderboard.
C
Come to the leaderboard.
B
And I would really like to. You don't have to unfollow Filippo. No one's asking you to do that. But if you could please just follow me in addition to. Or instead of Filippo, that would help.
A
I shouldn't try to type when there's a enhanced.
B
Okay, so so go to the followers. Count on the far right. I've been stuck at number five for a while.
C
Okay.
B
606 versus 632.
C
Folks, folks, if you're watching this unfollow. Philippa, don't. And follow.
A
Nick, don't.
B
I think, give Ed Bullion a follow too.
A
Sure.
C
Let's just.
B
Let's manipulate these a little.
A
From the Cars and Bits account. Ed Bullion's now follow me.
C
Okay.
B
He sold a lot of cars with us.
C
I want to talk about the couple things. I wanna talk about. The R129. The R. Can we just do that really quick? Sure. We're talking Benzes. It hit me the other day. We sold a nice R129 the other day. And it hit me that that car will never rise in value ever.
A
Yep.
B
There's so many of them.
C
It simply. This car, although it was nice, simply will never rise in value ever. This was a late model in a cool color. It sold for 11.
A
Yeah, that seems like the right price.
C
This car will never rise in value. And same with the R230. I walked by an R230 on the street the other day, and there's people like. You walk by people like, oh, that's.
A
That's a good looking car.
C
Well, it's also an $8,000 car.
A
Wow.
C
That's an SL55. That sold for 14. That's a regular SL550. That sold for 11, 45,000 miles. Neither of these cars will ever be worth anything in the history of time, but they're pretty good. Yeah, like, if you want a cool kind of show it off type of.
B
Car, a second home car, like, it's perfect for something like that.
C
They're also pretty reliable, General. Generally. Yeah, the. The 129 is a little bit more reliable, but they're both pretty stout cars. Yep. Buy one, you will not make any money. You will only lose money. But it's a pretty good value, I think.
A
I don't think you'll lose money. You'll spend money.
C
You're gonna spend money maintaining it, and you won't sell it for anything.
A
So nobody won't sell it for that much less.
C
No, I mean, the floor is 10. The cars are selling for eight. So, like, you can only lose so much on these things. I really think those cars are pretty cool for the number.
A
I feel like everyone I know has gotten hit with some kind of scam lately. Fake shipping texts, account locked emails, or that one message that just feels slightly off but somehow still tempting. C
You know I want that so bad. So bad.
A
Cool car.
C
Early WRXs are so cheap and I think it's crazy. Go back to it. Let's talk about this for a second. They're so cheap even though they are cool as hell. Yep. This car started the whole thing.
A
Yep.
B
What's the last Japanese car you've owned?
C
I have a Sequoia right now.
B
That. I mean like an enthusiast car.
A
He has a Sequoia TRD Pro. Yes.
B
So the S Cargo doesn't count. This doesn't count.
C
Sequoia TRD Pro. So Japanese.
B
Yeah.
C
I had a 2013 Land Cruiser, only I sold it two years ago. Does that count?
B
I would, I guess.
C
Well, I mean, sure.
B
Okay. I was thinking like a sporty vehicle.
C
I don't. I had a Skyline GTR back in 2015. Yeah, that was. But since then I've had a lot of different Japanese cars. I think it's time in a Korean car. And I bet that you don't distinguish.
B
That was rude. Maybe true, but definitely rude.
C
I think those Subarus. This is going to sell for more because it's a late production car. It's a Type ra. Would you just click on the.
A
No, I want to see what else.
C
We have no, go back, go back.
B
I have some casual browsing in the.
C
Middle of the pod. I think this is such a cool car. The mileage is unknown but it seems pretty low wear. It's not crazy modified. It only has a few little things. I would take off the mud flaps day one. But these are cool cars. Early WRXs are cool cars in general. And I don't understand why these don't bring more money. This car started the whole thing. The whole thing.
A
Agreed. Should take bring way more money.
C
You want one?
B
No.
C
Why not? They do wagons. Have you ever seen the badging giant thing? That stock that's completely.
A
It says WRX two different places. That is not.
C
That was at it. That is how it was done.
A
Wow.
C
Nick, don't you want this car? Why don't you get this? They did a wagon.
A
They did. It's a small wagon. It's not notable.
B
No, I mean I'm into these in particular.
C
Never had Japanese cars ever. Have you?
B
Have you ever TSX for a minute.
C
A tip tsx like 15 years ago.
B
Yeah. For two months.
A
It's a good engine though.
C
What else?
B
That's it.
C
You've never had Japanese. I'm telling you. You got to get a Z32.
A
You got a Z32.
B
I would like to spend some time in that later.
C
It's so good.
A
Or a nice nsx.
B
I still want a Pajero Evo.
C
Okay, we have to move on to the questions because we're coming up at the end of this thing and we have to move on to the question.
B
Oh my gosh. I thought we were making this two hours.
C
The questions are brought to you by Cars and Bids. Which is the finest. Whatever. You can take the rest.
A
Yeah, that sounds right. You nailed it.
C
Cars and Bids.
B
It is the best place to buy a multiplier online in America.
C
Is it 160 and I think it's.
A
Got a little bit to go.
C
This is a. We've been 17. We've been selling NSXs for money. We saw the gray ones.
A
Yeah.
C
Pull up NSXs that we've sold. We'll go to the questions in a second.
A
The last four NSXs there was one automatic early, early, early car. But then ours with 300,000 miles.
C
Oh, including Ferris going back.
B
Wow.
A
That 20,000 miles for 1 6. 67. This is what 60000 miles for 121.
C
You know what the deal car honestly was this because the blue is really rare and really beautiful and really sought after. And that car had some miles. So you could actually use it and it didn't go for such crazy money. I mean the one that's live now is going to go for ridiculous money. But it's super low mile.
A
Do you think on OE wheels this would have done better?
C
Yeah, I do think it would have done better on OE wheels and I think that that's something that someone ought to do to it.
A
This is going to do so well.
C
By the way, we have a new NSX on the site too which I also think is a really.
A
Which at this point. Cheaper. Yeah, Same price point. Cheaper.
B
Yeah.
A
NA2s have eclipsed.
C
God, I love this car.
A
NC1s.
C
This car is so good to drive. You ever driven one of these?
A
No. And I didn't get a chance to drive ours.
C
You didn't drive ours?
A
No, cuz once we started getting ready for aux, once we filmed it, we don't.
C
Have you ever driven any nsx?
B
No.
C
Oh, you're missing out.
A
I mean I moved it from right there.
C
Right there.
A
Did that count?
C
It's really nice. You know what else is nice though? In this era, FDRX7. That is a really good, good. And Z32 and then Mark4. That's how I would rank them by the way, if I had to rank them.
A
RX7 above the Z32.
C
Yeah.
B
Oh.
C
FDR X7 is one of the great driving cars in automotive history. It's just also one of the most painful cars to own. FDR X7, I might prefer the driving experience compared to the NSX. Wow. It weighs 2,000 pounds. It's like a Miata, but like factory built. More legit. Like it's like a more legit Miata. The rotary powertrain is amazing. It is super light. It handles incredibly well. It's just impossible for anybody.
A
The Z32 eclipsing the Mark 4 is interesting.
C
From the driver's driving perspective only.
A
That's the perspective that some of us care about. Driving enthusiasm.
C
There's more to it than that. Oh come on. There's style, there's. There's design, there's practicality, there's reliability, there's. There's technology, there's all this stuff. Yeah, you think style is equivalent?
A
No. Reliability.
C
The Supra looks better. The Supra is more reliable. The. The 2JZ is not only more reliable, but more reliable. Tunable.
A
That three liter is not bad.
C
Yeah. Okay, fine. The questions are brought to you by Nick and his electric charger shirt. Nick, you want to tell us a story about that?
B
I was told this Was a gas one. I asked specifically. I think what she said was, which do you want it to be? And then she just agreed with whatever I said next. But yes, this is a gas powered one.
C
Oh man, I hope you bought a couple. If you saved that shirt in 20 years, people would be like, I can't believe there was ever a, a shirt for this car. That's a good point. This terrible car that we all want to forget.
B
A Mustang hat. They had lots of good swag, by the way.
C
They just invited me, by the way, to the press launch for it. I'm not going to go because it is in Vermont.
B
What?
A
New Hampshire is right there.
C
Much more of a New Hampshire car.
A
New Hampshire car for sure.
C
Anyway, it's in Vermont. I'm not going. But you should go.
A
Noted.
C
Or you, you ever want to go to a press launch in Vermont, I.
B
Think I'm busy that day.
C
They're going to do it in the snow. Oh, that's snow. They've rented out some sort of snow thing for the 550 for the four door ones. The 550 horsepower and the 420 horsepower Dodge.
A
Invite me. I'll be there.
C
That looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it's nine planes to get to Burlington, so I won't be going. Okay, questions. First question comes from final. Oh, by the way, the questions this week were not good. They were not good.
A
Shame.
C
Shame you listeners. If you want to ask us questions, go to the community tab. We will post a post asking us to asking for questions. Folks, think of your best stuff. Nick's going to be back on the pod next week. Crazy Nick, ask your crazy questions. I want to answer the best and brightest and most special questions.
A
There were 371 questions.
C
I went through literally all of them and they were not as good as previous weeks. Nonetheless, I found nine or so good ones. All right, from final Funkypants. Who handled a nostalgic nameplate worse? GM with the Blazer or Honda with the Prelude? I'm going to answer this and I'll take. Then you guys can. The Honda Prelude is one of the most worst abominations in the history of the automobile. It was absolutely, horribly redone. It's ridiculous. Car underpowered, overpriced, not going to sell. The answer is the Blazer.
A
No doubt about it.
B
If we can only pick between those two.
C
Well, what else would be?
B
Give me the Ford Thunderbird.
C
No, the, the, the, the Boomer Thunderbird porthole. The Boomer Thunderbird. I mean that's what the boomers wanted. Dude. I posted my video review kind of knocking it and the comments were like you don't understand this car. They gave people what they wanted.
B
Did they? Is that what we wanted? 200 horsepower V8?
C
It was 300. And that's what the boomers who bought the car water. Were you going to spend 56 on a two door Lincoln base?
B
Okay, there's a lot of examples. I mean it's not just that like.
C
Hit us with some more. I think those are probably the two worst.
A
Look at these windows, the porthole windows.
C
That is a clean car.
B
You don't like this complete commercial failure. They could not give them away.
A
Ten grand on the secondary market. They're not really valuable.
C
You know I actually, I actually enjoyed driving it. It's a pretty comfortable like you know, kind of cruiser type car which I think is what it's for.
B
It's honestly aged well. Where now it looks like a concept car that escaped the museum. But the inside is bad.
C
The interior has some bright spots.
A
Yeah.
C
In the dark. But what is worse, I think Blazer is the worst of all time for sure.
A
The Prelude by the end of the run in 2002 was a dated product too. The nameplate had kind of lost.
C
People don't talk about the fact that that 5th gen prelude was not really particularly beloved even then. Now over the years we look back with rose colored glasses and has become come beloved. But like I was there and I remember people complaining even then that it was front wheel drive and underpowered. Yeah, because it was now these days I think it's a pretty cool car. Click on that one.
A
It is incredible. This is the JDM one.
C
Good picture though.
A
It's incredibly cool. But I think the nameplate didn't have that much value at a certain point. The Blazer nameplate though especially when Bronco.
C
And Wrangler and Forerunner are here selling hundreds of thousands of units a year and and GM looked at that and they're like let's do a unibody crossover that only sells to rental fleets. It is one of the most laughable mismanagements in the entire history of laughable mismanagement.
A
This was the direct predecessor.
C
Yeah, but that happens. The 4th gen Camaro wasn't amazing and then the 4th gen came out and it was incredible. Like that happens nameplates kind of die off. The Mustang in 04. The new Edge had kind of. We were kind of wondering if the Mustang was going to die completely. And then 05 shows up. One of the Great redesigns in car history. They could have done that with the black Blazer too.
A
Also this one looks kind of cool.
C
Oh yeah.
A
The ZR2 is a low mile.
C
It's a lot cooler than any of the trash they're making now.
B
I give the Blazer some benefit of the doubt that I just think that they do. You know what, we're gonna build that car anyways. And then they just slapped the wrong name on it. Like that's what they screwed up is the Blazer should have been an off road car. They could have still made what is the Blazer and just named it like some forgettable mid size suv. Yeah, whatever. Yeah. Like it's just the nameplate.
C
They is so afraid of making off road car. They're like hot. Except. Except the problem is their core products also are bad. Like the trail boss. Like they won't just go and make a Raptor or make a Raptor R or whatever or this Blazer. The market is so clearly demanding these vehicles and they won't go do it.
A
Yep.
C
I also find it weird that ZR1 is a Corvette and ZR2.
A
That's a really good point.
C
ZR5. Here's a very interesting trivia. Do you remember what ZR5 was?
A
No.
C
ZR5 was a slightly off road trim level of the last generation Chevy S10 with four doors. Type in, I bet we've sold one. I bet we've sold one. Type in ZR5 and see if it pops up.
B
Nope. Oh, what a shame.
C
I saw one on the road the other day.
A
Nope.
C
Type in S10. Z ZR5. You remember the S dime, dude. Yeah.
B
Oh yeah.
C
That was it.
B
It looked nice.
C
They just. Cool.
B
Yeah.
C
The ZR5.
A
Yep.
C
You're thinking where's the ZR3 on the ZR4?
A
No, nothing. Any such thing.
C
What was the.
A
The ZX5 was the Focus Fiber and ZX3.
B
Yeah. Okay.
C
You got. You don't have a nostalgic nameplate. Worse handle than Blazer. You're over here talking but I don't hear you with one.
B
I'd have to do a little more.
A
Deep research, but the 500 was handled beautifully. The Fiat 500. I'm not saying that as the owner of one. I like truly. That was like a successful rebrand. The Bronco. Really successful.
B
Yeah.
C
A lot of. A lot of times they've done it well. Not that one. Not the Blazer.
A
The Challenger. Pretty good.
C
I don't even think relative to the Blazer. I don't even think the Pro Is that bad? Okay, next question from T barert. If you had all the money in the world, which automaker would you pay to do a special one off car? And what car would it be?
B
Lamu. Oh yeah, Lamborghini Elamo 2. Finally make me 1. I want it limited production. I won it with the V12. Like. Like kind of like they did with that Veyron, which I think is the obvious answer here. Give me a Lamu LM0021 that wouldn't break down every 20 miles.
A
Would you accept an Urus with the like a Santa Cruz Urus?
B
If done extremely well, they could reuse some Urus parts. Sure.
C
I wouldn't.
B
I would prefer not.
C
Like let's go off roading. We got all the money in the world. All of it. We want a lamu.
B
Yeah, and I want it to look like the original Lamu. Just modernize, like just. Yeah, modernize. Tweak it a little here. Give me like a decent interior and powertrain stick.
C
Three pet. Ooh, you're not a three pet guy.
B
Hey, hey, hey.
C
You got any on off road vehicles?
B
Generally speaking, automatics are preferable and on your sports cars.
C
So anyway, the only, the only manual you have is a. Is a diesel hatchback and you're getting rid of it cuz you want out. Yep.
A
He doesn't know how to drive it.
C
For me, I'd probably. LMO would behind my list. I would definitely want a modernized F40. I think be really cool.
B
Yeah.
C
With a manual.
B
Did Le Hamilton ever end up making one?
C
There was talk about that, but then he raced poorly. I guess I didn't really.
B
Now he's dating Kim Kardashian.
C
There's. That's not happening. So he's a busy guy.
A
Got nothing.
C
You got nothing?
A
Nothing. How my brain works. So some kind of like a car that should be a manual. That isn't a manual. Make that manual wagon.
C
Make that a manual wagon.
B
Oh yeah. Shooting break recommissions.
A
A C8E Ray manual wagon.
C
Yeah, I mean a long roof version of the C8 would be really cool. Or a Cayman. I remember when they offered that when they were going to offer that like make your own program. I had like talked about that and nobody did anything. Those are all possibilities. Lamu is a good one. Lamu is a good one.
B
Veyron from last week's Pot is kind of of the. I don't know. I think that's probably the correct answer to the question.
A
Can I propose a better looking Toyota Piano?
C
No, you can't okay, next question.
B
You wasted your genie wish there.
C
Next question from Quasi Brad. This question's for you guys. Oh, it's about me, but it's for you guys. Dear Doug, what do you think you'd be doing professionally if YouTube didn't pan out? Would you have gone back in the industry? Would you have done something else? What do you think of I would be doing if YouTube hadn't panned out?
B
I think he would have been that guy that goes on Jeopardy. And wins a couple times in a row.
C
Yeah, just a couple.
B
Yeah.
C
It's not really a career though. I think the question is more like.
B
Well, you would have had like kind of like a mid manager role or something, but never been able to go past mid manager because of your people skills. Like, you would have told off your boss and like kind of just got stuck at some level, but you would have then gone on Jeopardy. And everyone's like, wow, that guy's really smart. And then that's a fair. And then we never would hear from from you again.
A
Okay.
C
I mean that Jeopardy. You win a few times, you win maybe 40 grand pre tax.
B
You're doing well.
A
You're in the 40s.
B
You would have gone big in like the early 2000s on Jeopardy. When that was like something.
C
The early 2000s, Nick.
B
I, I, you could have bought a house.
C
I turned 12 in 2000. You could have bought a house. Okay, sleepo, what's the answer?
A
I think for a while you would have gone back into that, like, into like vehicle allocation management.
C
I would have gone back into insurance act.
A
I think you would have been really bored there. And also you're too intelligent and driven to stay in a thing like that.
C
Oh, my God. He's saying people don't stay in the car industry if they're smart.
A
No, no.
C
You're going to say that about Tim Kiskus, I promise.
A
I don't know. I don't know the answer to that. I do think Jeopardy. Champion was a real pathway that you should have considered. And honestly, you should, should and probably.
B
About the same odds as making it big in YouTube.
C
No, it's definitely, definitely higher odds of being Jeopardy. Champion, of which there have been thousands. But meanwhile, on YouTube, only me and Hoo have ever made it big. Am I right?
B
You guys are crushing. I saw Hoovy four times at Barrett Jackson. Each time he had bought another car from the previous time.
C
Oh, man.
B
Dude was killing it.
C
I'll tell you this though, it's February. You know what that means?
A
He's got to sell them all by.
C
April 15th, tax time here in the United States. April 15th. Who you got to assume.
A
Surely he has to pay quarterly.
C
Well, but he doesn't. That's one of his things. You got to assume that. I'm going to get a text from Hoovy here in the next few weeks saying he's got to sell some panic, sell some stuff on cars.
A
Hoovie just text us now.
B
I've done my part. I've done my part.
C
That might mean that he gets to come back on this podcast because usually we pay him some honorarium and he comes to do a pod with us.
B
I tried to buy him out of the. I guess I shouldn't out what car he got, but he got a car at Barrett Jackson that I was trying to buy him out of, but didn't. Was unsuccessful.
C
Why don't you just buy it at Barrett Jackson, you nincompoop? Oh, I'm sorry. People skills. It's the people skills.
B
Yes, yes. That's why you're going to be a middle manager forever.
C
Yeah. Yeah, Right. Okay, next question. This is another one about me that you guys can answer from Ramtin. Hey, Doug. Yeah. You've mentioned you prefer reviewing cars locally due to family and logistics. Yeah, I do prefer it.
B
Most people prefer convenience over inconvenience.
A
Yes.
C
Filippo's laughing because it's not even a prefer. It's an only. If you received an offer to review absolutely any car in the world and could actually drive it, what is one holy Grail car that make you drop everything and fly anywhere? Filippo, go ahead and answer the question. I think you know the answer.
A
Doug's answer is going to be nothing. That's wrong. That's not the. That's not the real answer.
B
He was offered the T Design Columbus when he was in Italy, and he turned it down.
C
Offered to me. I was two hours away with my family. I said no.
A
I think if somebody says, here's all of these cars and this history, you.
C
Think about the Sultan.
A
I think of the sultan. Yeah.
B
That's true.
C
I will say if the logistics all worked out and the Sultan thing worked out and I could get a full week in Brunei and pick and choose. I could come home, you know, after six days with 12, 13 videos shot.
A
Yeah, you do it.
C
And we would finally have an insight into what some of those products are like.
A
Which of Brunei's seasons would you go in?
C
I don't do well in the heat. Yeah. Which is the problem. Because there's only ever heat, I assume I would shoot the whole thing. Indoors, but I also assume they don't have air conditioning.
B
What about Japan for the Aspark Owl?
A
It's made in Italy. Okay.
B
Are you sure nobody knows?
A
Yes, they claim it is.
C
Okay. Two more questions and then I have to leave. Believe what? Yeah. Next question.
A
A good looking car.
C
63 splitty. At what number this is for you? I think at what number does the 570s become a good buy? 105. We sold one the other day. Right. For 105.
A
Sold one today.
B
Did it go? Did it end today?
C
What did it sell for?
B
I'm into that one. They're there, I think. Oh, under 100 for 570s is there 89.
C
It sold for with 61,009. And that was a cool spec, this one Miles. Yeah.
A
And also was titled in Kansas.
C
It's got a. That's a. That's a Tennessee.
B
Tennessee.
A
Sorry, Mr.
B
It's in Two Vista.
A
It's in San Diego.
C
But titled Kansas or Tennessee. I don't think that really matters that much.
A
Told me some stories.
B
We.
A
We are one fail to sell with the number.
C
Would you buy one of these?
B
I mean I.
C
You're an automatic transmission guy. Where would you. Where would you hop in?
B
I think 89 is a quite compelling number.
C
It is quite compelling.
B
I would hop in there if I were in the market for another automatic sports car.
C
This is like a 560 horsepower. That's why you're not calling on the Diablo. It's three pedals and you're done.
B
That must be it.
C
He doesn't know how to drive manual.
B
I'll swap it to an auto.
C
Okay.
A
It's a real car.
C
Last question from that million mile Volvo. Which dead car manufacturer do you miss the most and why is it it Saab? I. It's not SOB for me. I'll tell you what mine is, but you go ahead first.
A
Please go first.
C
Yours is Saab, of course, but please go first.
A
But you know, Saab didn't die when it stopped production. Saab died in about 1998 when G took majority ownership.
C
There is a damn. This is like a hipster. Like died first when GM showed up and it died second when it actually.
A
Died, by the way, the actual answer was became a solo wholly owned subsidiary in 2000.
C
2000. I remember the day. It was a big deal. Nick, what's your. What's your favorite dead car brand?
A
It's on my actual. Is that my.
C
Yeah, of course. What do you mean yeah, it is. The key went in the center.
A
I know.
C
So they had a four.
A
So I Did. There's a channel where somebody did a bunch of work for a Saab. I did a whole 15 minute bit about why Saab was special for this kid's YouTube channel. It's great.
C
What do you got?
B
I'm going to guess that you're going to say Saturn since you were there.
C
I am absolutely not. Although it is a shape.
A
Same with Scion.
C
Neither are a shape. Nick, what's yours? Come on.
B
I think DeLorean got a bad shake.
A
Or you say Auto Bianchi.
B
I was tempted to say Packard initially.
C
Oh, my God. That's actually not a bad one. But DeLorean is embarrassing.
B
I think also Mercury. I miss the Mountaineer. What? Mercury Legend.
C
The Mountaineer.
A
The Legend was inaccurate.
B
There's still a strong part of me that wants to buy Fords and rebadge them as Mercury just because.
A
Go back. Why not? All right.
B
Change the grills to be.
C
The correct answer is Pontiac.
B
You missed the G6.
C
Yeah, dude. There was a G6 GXP that had a massive powertrain and massive front end that looked like. If you pull up the G6 GXP, it looked like the new M3. Pull it up. It looked like an M3. People are like, oh, the M3. Pontiac had it first. Pontiac had everything first. And I'll tell you this.
B
You haven't sold a lot, have you?
A
I'll show you the one.
B
No messy led.
C
They did a hardtop convertible. That's not it, by the way. That's not the gxp. I want to make it clear that. But they did do a hardtop convertible like the SL, by the way. But also they were GM's performance brand.
A
You're the first person since their own marketing team to compare it to the sl.
C
There was a blown. You know what the crazy thing about this car was? There was also a soft top convertible. There was a blown V6 that they did a lot of cars with. There was a V8 that went into the Grand Prix. Do you remember the Grand Prix GSF gtp? Well, yeah, there was that, but that was the supercharged one.
B
Look at that. Look at that.
C
Then they did the great GXP, which had a V8. That was serious. That was a North Star. Yes, this. Look at that grill. You think the M3 nostrils are something. This is a beaver.
A
God, that was tough.
B
That's a lot.
C
It was ugly. Although I will say, when I was in Detroit to film the Celestiq, guess what was parked in the GM campus.
A
No.
C
Someone had one of these. Living the dream. I miss Pontiac. It was the excitement brand. The Solstice GXP, the Grand Prix GTP Super 6, and the GXP V8. The G8. The G was special, which was a crazy cool car brought from Australia. Rear wheel drive, manual. Everybody's like, oh, Chevy, SS, Pontiac G8. All of the cars were cool, except the Torrent at the very end.
A
And the G3 in Canada.
C
And the vibe, the G3 wave. G3 wave, I think it was called, technically, the G3 wave.
A
Can't. Can't go down this road.
B
Anyway, I also want to revise the revived nameplate. One Ford Lightning Gen 2 Lightning overnight parts from Japan to an EV pickup.
C
EV pickup was faster and better in every way.
B
I think that was a mistake.
C
Look, the point is, Pontiac, we miss you dearly.
B
I do.
C
For some reason, GM kept Buick, which I think has no redeeming qualities, but Pontiac had real performance. There was love there. And instead they took it away from us right when a new Firebird was about. About to come out.
B
Well, that would have been nice.
C
Thank you. That's your answer. And that's your podcast for this week. The finest we've ever done. Nick, do you have any parting thoughts or anything you want to shout out?
B
Yes. Follow me on cars in bed, seller profile, maybe keep following Filippo or not.
C
That's up to you. Well, I like that you're not trying.
B
To get people to watch YouTube content or anything else.
C
The only thing that matters to him is a leaderboard. Frozen bids. Leaderboard.
B
It's important that I have this vanity metric. It provides me no utility in the real world, but I would like it.
A
Reputation score is important.
B
Number of cars sold, car value sold. I will never win.
C
No, no.
B
Wow.
A
Cars won. You clearly will never win.
B
That's 77. That's impressive. Legit.
C
Okay, that's Nick Flippo. You got anything to plug, you always plug. Go to Cars. And our app is great. I'm told our app is great.
A
Truly, if you have an iPhone, download the the app. You'll love it.
C
The app's great. The podcast is great. Everything we do is great. Goodbye, everyone. Thank you for watching the Cars and Bids podcast. Or maybe it's the Doug Demir. I don't know this car podcast. Bye.
A
There you go.
