Doug
Foreign. Hello and welcome to this car pod.
Kenan
I'm Kenan.
Doug
I'm Filippo and there's a lot to talk about. Let's start with the news.
Kenan
Ah, EVs. It must be Filippo.
Doug
Correct.
Filippo
The as part of the big beautiful bill that passed the Senate and was signed by the President last week, the EV tax credit, which is 7, 500 if you qualify, if the car qualifies and there's a used EV tax credit as well, will be phased out more quickly than expected. So it'll be done in September of this year. After that point, there'll be no more EV tax credits. So if you want to lease a Model 3, if you want to lease an Ionic 5N, if you want to lease a Mach E, it'll be notably more expensive because the federal government is not subsidizing it by 7,500.
Doug
There is no EV tax credit at all.
Filippo
No EV tax credit at all. Now there are, to be very precise, there are some credits that still apply to auto manufacturers. If they manufactured batteries in the U.S. if they open plants that build batteries in the U.S. there's some tax credits for them, but there's no consumer level tax credits.
Kenan
Right.
Filippo
So the idea at the federal level.
Doug
I just don't understand how you can justify with we are sitting here knowing that other country and we're going to get comments like we don't need those EVs you guys need to stick to. But like, how do you, how do you justify what other countries are manufacturing high quality top level vehicles and making inroads into global foreign markets where our automakers are sometimes, number one, like Ford in Latin America and in parts of Europe and you see China coming in with these EVs that are so heavily subsidized by the government. How do you justify our government saying, peace out, we're done, we're going to just back off this. It's like a self owned. Yeah.
Filippo
The rationale that they would share is probably that if there is demand for these, you don't need to incentivize them, you don't need the federal government to intervene. But clearly a lot of EV adoption in the US has been driven by there being large incentives, by that bringing the price down to competitive levels. Your point, I think is a valid one.
Doug
I mean, there's incentives for so many things. People are complaining EVs. Well, there's no EV incentive. We don't need EVs. If there was an incentive. If there wasn't an incentive, people would buy them. The government's putting the Incentive on. And that's the only thing making people buy. Well, the government puts a massive incentive on buying a home. You can deduct your mortgage interest. That's a huge government incentive. Do people take advantage of that? Does that artificially inflate property values? Probably. It's probably also generally good, at least for homeowners in this case. This would be good for the American people. The American auto industry.
Filippo
It's a very head in the sand approach.
Doug
It's a shame to do this because obviously the way that the automakers will respond is by presumably not putting as much R and D into electric cars because the market won't demand them in the short term. But in the long term other countries will realizing that this is obviously the future. I think even the Republican would probably agree about that. In the long term the other automakers will then be way ahead. And when it does finally come time for the American brands to come back into the old EV world, we're already going to be way behind. I, you know it's, it's unfortunate. The government incentivizes a lot of stuff in order to get it off the ground before the public is ready. And once the public then gets there then we already have a built up industry anyway. I'm just, I know it's a little bit of a political story but I'm disappointed by it. I'm not an EV guy, I've never owned one. I'm not that into them. But, but they serve a massive purpose. When you see how many Model Threes and Model Y's are getting sold. They're great commuters, they're great point A to point B boring easy cars, Uber.
Kenan
Taxis and yeah, they're fantastic for that. And so I guess the question then is if this deincentivizes major manufacturers to stop developing these cars, what does that do for companies that only produce.
Filippo
We can't foretell the future. There's a lot of analysts kind of like stock analysts that do expect that this will help Tesla. Rivian lucid companies with that will have to continue to invest in that to live. There's also a question though of can those companies survive if they're. I will say.
Doug
Have you been on Tesla's website? Canon, Go to Tesla's website right now. Have you seen this?
Filippo
Yeah.
Doug
Tesla's website right now has a massive banner at the top. The biggest, the biggest like banner I have ever seen on Tesla's website. It is federal tax credit. And they get your car.
Filippo
Yeah. Now some of the really expensive EVs have already not qualified. Right. Part of the Inflation Reduction act that the Biden administration passed limited what price the like change the cap for prices and made it to the card needs to be built in the US with some US componentry. So some of especially the higher end EVs don't have not been receiving a tax credit. So maybe that, that means that Rivian lucid are a little bit less impacted, but nonetheless, big deal.
Doug
Nonetheless. It's an interesting thing, to be honest. I think we should probably be going the other direction. I think we should probably be forcing automakers more and more to figure out new and better technologies so that they can compete on the global scale. You know, America is not the only country anymore and it's, it's not even the largest market. You laugh, but for a long time America was like the car market, you know, like if you could succeed in America, you were a global automaker. And now Asia exists and you know, these other developing markets will start to be invaded essentially by Chinese brands because American brands aren't, aren't going to be up to their standards. And that's partially because of decisions like this. Anyway, that's just my take. It's. I'm, I'm not an EV person myself. I got a V10, V12 canon. We're all.
Kenan
You got a charge port ready to go in your garage. You're ready to make that switch when it happens.
Doug
Yeah, but I'm, you know, I'm, I'm not like jumping out there to buy an ev. They got to come to me with a Mercedes wagon first.
Kenan
There it is. That's right.
Doug
All right, give us our next news story, please. Ah, yes, more EVs. Speaking of EVs, do you want to talk about this?
Filippo
Yeah, I mean, Slate is. I said this when Slate announced their premise, which was where a new car that is under 20 grand that was driven by a $7,500 tax credit, that's gone, period. The Slate will not be out before then. Obviously, that's gone. So that's now a $27,500 truck in the pricing that they announced when they launched as a publicity stunt. Right. That's not an appealing new car price, that, that's not like a cheap vehicle anymore.
Doug
No. The Maverick starts at 27 and has.
Filippo
Four doors and more than 180 miles of range and, you know, history behind it. Let's say they're gone. I mean, I think that's completely right.
Doug
And requires no infrastructure in order to, you know, charge it at home and.
Filippo
Or add speakers. You Know, things like that.
Doug
So here's a question. Is Slate. I mean, is it over? Like, I noticed they've changed their website to say that it starts in the mid-20s now because the $20,000 thing was like their big selling point. Is it over? Like, is it over over?
Filippo
No, probably.
Doug
Are people still interested in this?
Filippo
A lot can happen between now and the end of 2026 or whenever they said the first ones were going to come out. They hope certainly that people will be interested in them, but, man, that pricing does not work in their favor anymore.
Doug
Yeah. Are you interested?
Filippo
No, I wasn't interested before, but I'm certainly not interested now that someone's up in the office.
Kenan
But you went to their event. That didn't sway you? No, I figured it wouldn't.
Doug
Filipo doesn't get swayed by things like that, although he happily would consume it. So that's it. That's it for Slate. We all. Are we sitting. All here. Sitting. Predicting their demise. I mean, Filippo basically just did.
Kenan
It's hard to have a demise when you haven't done anything yet. You know, it's kind of.
Doug
They have some pretty serious backers, though. You have to assume they will come to market.
Filippo
I think they'll come to market. I think there's a chance that it becomes like a cult hit. I think there's a chance that by the time it comes to market, there's other incentives at play. That means that it can be interesting.
Doug
Again, but you got to assume there will again be. I just went on this rant about killing the EV tax credit is a mistake, but you got to assume the Democrats get back into power if such a thing is ever possible again. They'll probably put another EV tax or even a split. A more moderate Congress would probably do it, too. Recognizing some of the stuff that I was just talking about, I wouldn't be.
Filippo
Surprised if they push launch if they decide to wait until there is a more supportive climate for that. I wouldn't be surprised if they change some of their packaging to add options back in that they had planned to be options to try to make that price point more worth it.
Doug
But I will say that if your car is kind of lives and dies by the political winds, you know, it's not really, you know, the Mustang's been going since 64 and a half.
Filippo
And that's electric.
Doug
It went through Vietnam, it went through the Gulf, it went through 9, 11. Here it go. Yeah. Now it's an electric SUV, so, you know, it's great. It's doing great. So anyway, Slate. This isn't even a news story. Like, this is only a news story in the sense that things have changed for them. Like, there's no news about it. But it is interesting to speculate on what happens there. Yeah, especially after all the hoopla and hype just a couple of months ago when they first announced.
Filippo
One of the smartest apps you can have on your phone in 2025 is upside. Upside gives you the power to earn more on the stuff you buy all the time. Whether you're filling up your tank, going out to eat, or shopping for groceries, the Upside app lets you earn cash back on every purchase. I've been using it a ton this summer. Doug recommended it to me, so I had to try it. Also, I love saving money. Gas stops, meals around town. I'm getting cash back, meaning I have more funds for my gti. I open the app, claim an offer nearby, pay with my card like normal, and a couple of taps later, there's cash in my account. It's that easy. And it's not just a couple of gas stations and restaurants. Upside works at over 100,000 gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants. So I've even used it at my local grocery store and a couple random lunch spots that I love. You can earn an average of 8% cash back at restaurants and grocery stores. And the best part, it stacks on top of your regular credit card rewards. It adds up fast. People are earning hundreds of dollars a year with this thing.
Doug
And.
Filippo
And with a 4.8 star rating in the app store, it's easy to see why. Download the free upside app and use promo code cars to get an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank of gas. That's an extra 25 cents back for every gallon on your first tank of gas using promo code cars.
Doug
All right, what's our next news story? Kenner, what do you have?
Filippo
Oh, I get to keep talking about EVs.
Doug
What a.
Filippo
What a day for me. I was gone for a week and I get to talk about EVs just the entire day today. This is great. Hang in there.
Kenan
There's a Ferrari story later on. Just you keep going.
Filippo
Rivian finally announced the R1T and R1S that we all knew was coming, which is a quad motor R1T, R1S. Have you heard about this?
Kenan
I have.
Filippo
Do you have any. How much power this puts out?
Kenan
It's got to be a thousand something.
Filippo
Yeah, it's. It's 1025 horsepower, 1198 pound feet of torque from a Motor in each wheel. That's insane. 2.5 seconds here at 60 times, it's insane.
Kenan
But it's not surprising anymore. Everything that comes out that's new in EV is a thousand horsepower, it feels like. And back. Back in my day when the. And, you know, Doug recalls the Veyron 1000 horsepower. It's like, oh, my God. And now it's like, yeah, yeah. But it Also, I mean, 2.5 seconds, 0.
Doug
60.
Filippo
I will say Jason Kamisa over at Hagerty had a phenomenal drag race video with this and a lucid gravity and a Macan EV turbo and a couple other cybertruck included. No, uh, but the. Just the speed off the line that the R1s that they tested had just wild to watch. It's limited to 1:30. And at the quarter mile, it should be past 130. So that slows it down, but insane.
Doug
Oh, really?
Filippo
Yeah. Couple of other quick things.
Doug
What did it. What did it run the quarter in?
Filippo
I don't remember from the video. You have to look, but I think it's a 10.5 second quarter mile.
Doug
It's not, but it's. But it's top speed limited. Interesting.
Filippo
Could be a little faster.
Doug
Kenan, you make such an interesting point. I remember when I was a kid, it was generally agreed that, like, the supercars of today will be the, like, the normal cars of, like, 20 years. And. And that was. That was. You could see that happening. Like the Ferrari 308. Like, by the time I was a kid, the Camry was that fast. And it was like, okay, that will happen. And you could imagine it. And I was like, then the Veyron came out, and I was like, well, that'll never happen again. And no, no, it did. It actually did happen again. The Sooner, you know, 20 years later, here we are. A pickup truck that you're going to be able to buy on cars and bids for $47,000 in about four years. It has more power than a Veyron.
Kenan
Where does it go from here? Does it go anywhere from here? Because, I mean, there's only some.
Doug
It goes to fish tanks. I'm serious. This sounds insane. People looking at me like. Like my dog does when I'm holding a treat. But. But here's my thinking. Power is done. Power is done. The next frontier is weird quirks. So the gear tunnel like that truck has and fish tanks and any other thing that we can throw in these vehicles to make them stand out. Power is no longer going to make vehicles stand out. Acceleration is only making Vehicles stand out. An indoor basketball court would make a vehicle stand out. That's not as insane as it sounds.
Kenan
The Chinese are onto us. Their cars are jumping. Their cars can float. You know, I mean, you got a point. This is a field day for you. Talk about job security.
Doug
That's right, it is a field day for me. But I legit think that like the cars of the future will no longer be distinguished by powertrain or performance. They will be distinguished by what, like amenities they offer. And yes, that's such a good point. The Chinese already have already figured this out. I'm over here, like I'm groundbreaking. But no, I'm not the Chinese. Once again, the Chinese beat me to it. Probably because I have no tax credit. Personally. That's what it was. I had a tax credit to ideate if they paid. If they gave me like money off my Texas to just sit and think, I would have thought of this.
Filippo
A couple of other things on the R1s and R1t quad motor to get back on track. R1t is about 118k including destination. R1s is 124ish with destination it now has tank turn. It can do the same thing turn that the G wagon can do. Etc, which is exciting.
Kenan
Yes.
Filippo
Apparently off road capability as good as you'd expect from Rivians, which is incredibly good motor in each wheel means that there's a lot of controllability, which is cool and.
Doug
And no driveline in the middle. By the way, tank turn is an example of a fish tank.
Filippo
True.
Kenan
That's a fish tank as a category.
Doug
Yeah, it's a.
Kenan
It's a fish tank.
Filippo
A fish tank turn in fact.
Kenan
Nice. Thank you.
Doug
Couple of other quick things. It is, it is. It's a gimmick that like is something they can offer.
Filippo
Yep. Rivian has also announced that coming out in September there'll be a bunch of new customizability on all of their new R1s and R1t. So you can change every single setting of the each motor, the suspension, etc. Which will be interesting. And the last thing I want to mention is something that we talked about a few weeks ago, which is that there's only like two ways to identify the R1s. You're seeing as a quad motor and has a thousand whatever horsepower and that is blue brake calipers and a slightly different badge. That is it. They are missing so many opportunities to make the fact that they have 1025 horsepower, 1200 pound feet of torque SUV and instead they have a Slightly different badge that says quad in tiny letters and blue brake calibers.
Doug
You know, I find this. That's an. This is an interesting segue into a topic we should have covered a while ago, which is in today's world of excess and showmanship and things being okay, kind of to be showy, where there are so many people overtly wearing brands and building bigger houses and bigger yachts and like, this is a thing. Private planes. It's weird to me that several cars have done this recently. It's not just Rivian. The Wrangler 392 is basically impossible to tell apart from a regular Wrangler. The Defender Octa is basically impossible to tell apart. But I mean, we're talking minor stuff. This ain't a Raptor, you know, like, I assumed they would make a Raptor with fenders and graphics and wheels, and they really didn't. This is another example. We always talk about how loose it is. Like this Tesla with the plaid badge that you can buy on ebay. It's kind of interesting. Why aren't they, like, it's cheaper to manufacture, of course, but the whole thing has always been you want people to, you know, they look like they spend more and they want to brag to their neighbor.
Kenan
Right. And so many performance brands have done this in the past. I mean, like the cars of Modern Air, where it was largely a body, you upgrade stuff, but, like, it is visually instantly definable. Yeah. It is a weird thing to, like, let go by the wayside. It just feels low hanging fruit.
Filippo
Flip side to that. If you're Swiss and don't want anybody to know you have the expensive one. Success.
Doug
You're already good. You're already good.
Filippo
You don't even need to debadge. Yep.
Doug
Yeah. Well, not many of us are Swiss, thank God. No, I'm kidding. I love the Swiss. For a long time I hated the Swiss, and then I realized I was just jealous of them. Yep. Okay, move on to the next news story, which is our most important news story. The Nurburgring crash. Oh, it's this. Let's talk about the Nurburgring. What Nurburgring crash. Okay. There was a crash of the Nurburgring. Filippo, did you see the video?
Filippo
I did.
Doug
You're gonna play it? Yeah. Oh, my God. Okay, the Porsche comes in here and then bam.
Kenan
Gets whacked by this M2. Yeah.
Filippo
Boom.
Doug
Now that is a serious impact. Both drivers were okay.
Filippo
Shockingly, that's first of all testament to modern cars.
Kenan
I think that's the talking point. More than Anything like they've both. They walked away 15 years ago.
Filippo
No chance.
Kenan
I don't know. I don't know that you would have walked away from that.
Doug
Watch this again. Now, I want to stress, I want to stress a couple of things. At the Nurburgring, you must pass on the left like it's a freeway. That's the rule. And the Porsche was doing that. Something that nobody's talking about about this crash is that the BMW is from the uk. It has British license plates. And so the driver was on the other side of the car. So the Porsche was coming into a blind spot. Now, when you're on the racetrack like this, you should be very aware of where everybody is at any point. However, I have a suspicion that that played a little bit of a role. It's a serious, serious accident. They have these tourist days at the Nurburgring. This happened during a tourist day. You're not supposed to go flat out during a tourist day. You're supposed to just kind of go. And so a lot of people are putting some of the blame on the Porsche driver because that was a somewhat risky pass. That would have been a very acceptable pass in a race. But in a tourist day where you're passing just a guy who drove in from the uk, it's a little sketchy. Nonetheless, to me it looks like the BMW probably should have been aware, especially because there's a longer in car video of the Porsche where the Porsche is on the BMW tail for turn after turn. And it's really clear that the Porsche is ready to pass. And if you know anything about cars as the driver for BMW M2 driving at the Nurburgring, wood, you know that your car is slower nonetheless. Crazy stuff. But yes, I think the big story here is what I mean. The front end of the Porsche came.
Filippo
Off like there was a fire.
Kenan
Yeah, yeah. Ruptured the fuel tank. There's an instant fire. I mean, it was in the air like this, like it was, it was traveling, you know, on a plane 180 degrees like you normally would to the ground, and then it was 90 degrees to the ground. And so like that's, you know, that's some wild stuff.
Doug
And then, and then to be okay, I mean, I presume these guys are wearing helmets, but they probably don't have roll cages. These are just cars, you know, and.
Filippo
To be fair, like the, the passenger compartment is impressively intact in both modern engineering.
Doug
Every time I see an accident with a high speed accident with a modern car on a dash cam or whatever, I'm always Astonished by the crumple zones. They. They really do a great job of keeping the passenger compartment intact. It's really amazing.
Filippo
Especially impressive because this was real speed. I mean, in that video, the 911 was doing about 200 kilometers an hour, which is real, real speed. There's not crash testing at that speed. And you know also that, I mean, these were both relatively light vehicles, which helped them both. The amount of just energy in that crash is crazy, insane.
Doug
You're right that there's not crash testing at that speed. And frankly, the automakers are not really incentivized to create a safe car at that speed. I mean, a safe car in theory is safe in all, but, like, the automakers don't. If someone's going 130 miles an hour and they die in the car, the automaker's like, well, but here we go. So, Kenan, let me ask you this. Does this make you scared to drive the Nurburgring and. Or want a GT3RS?
Kenan
Well, GT3S is a wonderful car. I don't know what I would use fun for. It's a little bit too extreme for me. I do want to go to the Nurburgring and drive around it. I'm just genuinely still terrified to do so, even as a tourist. Not just for reasons like this, but I just don't want to be in other people's way, which I inevitably will be. I would do the ring taxi thing is still what I think I would do. And have a professional scare me in an M5. I think that would be great.
Doug
You would be in people's way. But, like, if you watch those ring videos, sometimes I get into people. People are in people's way. I mean, there's people who drive, you know, Volkswagen Polos and just kind of do it. And nobody's a timing on a tourist day.
Kenan
No, I think. I think everybody has to do it. And then you earn the right to have the sticker on something. I would never put on the car, of course, but I think that. I think that. I think it would be. It would be. It would be fun, and I'll do it at some stage.
Filippo
Have you done it, though?
Kenan
You've done it.
Filippo
Have you driven the Nurburgring?
Doug
No, I'm not a big. I'm not a big, like, track driving motorsports guy. I would love to do it. It's also not tremendously convenient to the places that I like to vacation in Europe and. And when I travel, I usually don't make cars, like a component of my vacation. My last vehicle. When I was in Europe that I rented was a Mercedes V220D which I crashed.
Kenan
So probably not a great start for you then if crashing happened off the track to begin with.
Doug
Right, right, right. But I think it would be cool. I think it would definitely be interesting. And Kenan, I think that you should do it and report back. Aren't you going to Europe here in the next couple of weeks?
Kenan
I am. We can talk about it a little bit more. I plan to in the talk cars segment when we get there. But yes, I am going to Europe very soon. I will be doing a lot of fun.
Doug
Okay, we got Kenan's Europe trip coming up, folks. All right, give us our next news story.
Kenan
That's chaos. Ah, yes, the Bentley EXP15. So this is a concept that Bentley recently released that is again, underscoring concept. Now they have an EV that's coming out next year. And this allegedly will have some tie into that car. But there are a couple of things to note about it. One of them is that this car, one thing I think is it retains this huge slabby grill and front end. That's an ev, which means it doesn't need a grill. No, but Bentley decided as a styling thing, they wanted to keep this quote to retain to create a piece of digital art that has how they described this, this front grill. But the thing is, they're weird about this concept. And why it's clearly concept is it only has three seats, despite being. When they showed pictures of this, they had it next to a 193030 Bentley Speed 6, which is a massive car. And they had it next to that. And then you look at it and it's like it seats three people and there's a spot to put your dog that's perfect. Which is. That's right.
Filippo
Wait.
Kenan
Yes.
Doug
Excuse me.
Kenan
You may be excused. So instead of having a fourth seat, See, being a British car, I'll pull up a picture of it. So instead of being. Instead of having another seat. So this. You see dog.
Filippo
It's a dog.
Kenan
That is weird.
Filippo
It's a concept car and they're concept car photos. But you have to assume that this portends the direction that Bentley design will go.
Doug
May I? It seems to a hot take, a Sean style hot take right here. I like it.
Filippo
You like it?
Doug
I'll tell you why I like it. I'll tell you I like it. Go to go to a picture of the current generation Continental gt.
Filippo
Yeah, I mean, go to the new.
Doug
Type in new Continental.
Filippo
He's not going to find the new one. He's going to find the old one as well.
Doug
Okay, so that's the new Continental gt. Right? Great. All right, now go find a picture of the 2019 Continental GT. All right.
Filippo
Are you gonna make them go through every single six years? Because you got a ways to go.
Doug
No, no, no, no, no. There's only four generations somehow. 2019 Continental GT. You got that pulled up? Okay, now go to see a picture of the 2013 Continental GT.
Kenan
Even I can pick up on a pattern here.
Doug
It's going to make a lot more sense in post. All right, 2013 Continental GT. Okay, now go to a picture of the 2007 Continental GT.
Filippo
You know, they needed a new direction. I agree.
Kenan
Forgetting one.
Doug
At the end of the day, I think this thing, the concept car thing is kind of heinous, but like this is. They've been iterating. This car came out in 2003.
Kenan
I'd like to point out there's one more Continental you're missing.
Filippo
What?
Doug
No, Those are the four.
Filippo
The Flying Spur.
Kenan
There's a 1997 Continental.
Doug
Well, okay, but you're missing the point I'm making.
Kenan
I know the point you're making, but they do iterate occasionally since they haven't in 20 years.
Filippo
Here's the thing. I agree they need a new design language and I actually do like that it look, it has more presence. Yeah, the, the new one has more presence which we talk about like Rolls Royce values kind of holding because there's such road presence in their design. This has that. It also looks, I think like what the Jaguar tees design looks like.
Kenan
It does look like that.
Filippo
And it has Aston Martin taillights and it's weird.
Doug
It's weird.
Kenan
I don't know, it's.
Doug
It'll.
Kenan
It is interest if this is the direction Bentley goes. It is, it is kind of back to the more square, boxy, stately, fire your dad look of the Arnage and the original Continental.
Doug
But we love cars that. We love the, the, the Brooklyns. I mean this has Brooklyn's vibes. This has Brooklyn's vibes.
Kenan
Yep. Especially I could picture. Yeah, I can see it. So I don't know. I mean again, it's a concept that this might not factor into it at all in the end. Who knows.
Filippo
There's also a very modern interior in the prototype or in the, the pictures that they've shown. It looks kind of the dog picture. Yeah, that picture has a very modern interior. Like huge screen and cool design.
Kenan
I gotta say, in the world of three seater British cars, you know, which is this. And the T50. The T50 can't store a dog, so there's that.
Doug
There's another one, which is the speed sale. And I'll tell you something. They're all illegal in the US including this, because of airbag regulations. Wow. The. The. The rear seats need to have an airbag. Like, there's a certain number of inches from the seat that the airbag has to be. And this would not. This would not be allowed in the US not that it will, because it's a concept car. But I do think it, as Filippo says, portends, or perhaps it means, behooves the future of Bentley design. And you know what? I'm. I'm ready for a radical change. I've been. It's been too iterative. Too iterative. We need something to come in and fire your dad. All right, give us the next music.
Kenan
Is there another one?
Doug

There'S one more. I promised a Ferrari story, and it's indeed it has to do with the SP3 Daytona. So the SP3 is coming to its end of production, and Ferrari has said that they're going to build one more. They built 599. 599 examples for the world, officially 599. We'll see if that remains true. And they're going to build one more. The 500 of 5 or the 600 of 599. And this one isn't going to a customer directly, is going to auction. They're auctioning it off for charity. All the proceeds will go to one of Ferrari's charities. So this is the easiest way if you want a brand new SP3 Daytona to get it, because nobody could get an allocation for that car. It was impossible to come by. And Ferrari.
Doug
Does it have to look like that or can you.
Kenan
That is the unfortunate thing. It does have to look like this. And for our audio listeners, it is half yellow, half exposed carbon fiber. And it says, in case you didn't know, it was a Ferrari, it has Ferrari script on the hood, but it says fer part of another R and then cabin. And then on the back it finishes the rest of it, which I think is amazing. But don't worry, it doesn't end there. It comes with a bunch of accessories. They're giving you all the new car stuff, but it also comes with something. It comes with a carbon handbag they're calling the Maranello clutch now.
Filippo
Oh, wow.
Kenan
I always related that with a. To a sound because, you know, in a Maranello clutch, you know, you go as it wears all the clutches, you shift gears. But no, this is a bag.
Doug
That 575 Maranello.
Kenan
575 Maranello clutch does that. But this, it's just. It's just outrageous.
Doug
Yeah. If you're an audio listener. He said it's half yellow and half green. I want to point out the half are the right and left. It's not like the front and back.
Kenan
The driver, you know, And I think they're making a commentary there because Ferrari's all about the driver. And so the driver's side is all bare carbon and aggressive and the other side's painted.
Filippo
I don't.
Doug
Carbon on one side.
Kenan
Bare carbon. Yes.
Filippo
I don't hate it.
Kenan
Yeah. It doesn't. You don't hear it.
Doug
People who only think this car is yellow.
Kenan
Yeah. And there are other people only think.
Doug
It'S driving down the road.
Kenan
And then there are people who see it from above. And those people get the real show. They go.
Filippo
I legitimately don't think it looks that bad. I don't think the Speed 3 is a particularly attractive automobile. So this doesn't hurt it.
Doug
Dude. If they made the SP3 of the stick. I would never even think about the F40 ever again. All my thoughts would be about the SP3.
Filippo
So the correct me if I'm wrong because this is not my world but a lot a 500th La Ferrari sold for something like $7 million at the time which was five times the original MSRP. Do you expect this to go for five times whatever the SP3?
Kenan
I think the MSRP, the SP3 is about $2 million.
Filippo
I think it's a nice 10 million dollar car.
Kenan
I don't know about. I mean maybe it's going to be.
Filippo
Very identifiable easiest way to get one but also it costs 5x.
Doug
No, I bet you it is 10 million. First off it's probably a write off. Probably a write off. I don't know how they do their charity auctions but you can never really trust results from charity auctions because a lot of the time it's a tax deduction for the person who's buying the good because usually what it is is you pay the full value of the good 2 million and then you can write off the amount. I'm not sure how that'll work and it's Italy and who knows but that's often how these things go. Second, the last of these cars is always really special. The final Enzo which was given to the Pope and then auctioned for tsunami relief victims is still a famous car. Like the last of breed is like still the last. And the SB3 is the greatest part they've made since the F50 so it has, it has some value too.
Kenan
Yeah, I suppose it is a shame it looks like that but that's just how it looks. But nonetheless that is the end of the day. SV3 Daytona. I hope they still make some na tall cylinder stuff. It seems unlikely given that the F80 is going to be is a turbo hybrid V6 but nonetheless SP3 Daytona.
Doug
Well I think they will still make 12 cylinder stuff because they actually currently just came out with a new car called the 12 cylinder that has 12.
Kenan
Well yes, but I my limited edition crazy stuff like this like I can hope that that continues to be something that make and I. I think they should.
Doug
I bet it will. Okay, we need to move on to the talk car segment which is when we talk about cars. Now you've been thinking we've been talking about cars. No, no, we talk about cars differently in this segment and this segment is brought to you by cars and bids which is the finest place on the Internet.
Filippo
Yep, done.
Doug
Period. No other qualifiers. Yeah, I want to Talk about Kennan's European road trip. Kenan, tell us about this.
Kenan
Yes. So I am going to Europe. A friend of mine, Luke, is getting married in France. His wife's family is ass. Wife's family is mostly from there. So all my friends and I are getting together and descending upon Europe to go to the wedding. And I am turning it into a very much a grand tour. So I'm flying into Frankfurt, spending a day there, picking up a car, then driving to Paris, spending a couple days there, then down to Limoges, where the wedding is, then to the south of France, spending a little time in Monaco. Doug tells me I shouldn't waste my time there, but I've never been to Monaco. And I want to see super cars.
Filippo
Stradman was there. You got to be there, right?
Doug
I take it back. I take it back. I mean, I don't think I'll ever go again, but I, I, I was. Look, I watched, I made a video.
Kenan
I watched video.
Doug
Yeah, you watch that car spotting in Monaco video. I watched that video again, like, a couple weeks ago. God knows why. And I'm like, oh, my God. I used to see. They must. It was so crazy. I will say I did that before. There were car spotter kids running around everywhere. And I'm told that now it's like pretty intense. Like, there's just kids with cameras, like, everywhere. Any part of that video, there's crazy stuff driving by. It's like a wild video.
Kenan
Yeah. I mean, 4, 5, 8 was near that. I mean, it is an UN. For those of you who can't see, go back.
Doug
Like, every part of this video. I was watching this, like, jaw dropped. I couldn't, I couldn't. I didn't remember that it was quite as insane as it was, but it was insane.
Kenan
177. I mean, that is nuts. Now, granted, I am expecting it to mostly be brand new stuff, because this was new stuff at the time. And you. The vanquish wasn't when it drove.
Doug
There's, there's. You will see some older stuff. You'll see some older stuff for sure.
Kenan
I'm very. But I am very excited.
Doug
Some older stuff.
Kenan
I also do want to kind of go612. I want to go kind of wander around and like, you know, parking garages. I want to go do the Monaco thing. I'm staying not far from there. I'm staying there for a little. Enzo. Wow. I'm staying, staying there for a little while. Then I'm. Then I'm going on dropping my friends off. They're flying back to the United States and then I continue by myself. I'm going along the Riviera and then up into Italy and staying at Lake Como. Then I'm going through Switzerland to the Lichtenstein. Because I want that passport stamp as.
Filippo
One of the weird be a passport stamp. You recognize that, right?
Kenan
They do stamp it there because it's a tourist thing. They know that I got it. You have it too?
Doug
Yeah. You go to the tourist office and they stand before you like real.
Filippo
Whatever.
Kenan
It's worth it to me. It is real.
Doug
So I was there. I walked into the tourist office. There was one group ahead of me and they were riding on motorcycles from Iceland with Iceland plates.
Filippo
That's legit.
Kenan
That's what I'm hoping. That's the sort of stuff I'm looking to find. And then from there I'm going to Stuttgart. I'm going to the Mercedes Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum, staying very close to the Porsche, which I'm very excited about. And then from there I'm doing the big thing for me, one week after my friend is married is the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa. And I'm going to Spa. I have seats at the base of Urouges. So as a Formula one fan, I'm there for three days.
Doug
This video out of here, it's distracted. It'll distract. It's. Filippo's distracted already.
Filippo
And if I'm distracted, every viewer is too.
Kenan
Yes.
Doug
So you're going to Formula One. Like you're gonna see Vettel or whoever.
Kenan
He's there because he's not driving. If he's there in a different capacity, I'd love to see him. But yes, I'm going to go see Formula one, my favorite racetrack. The Belgian Grand Prix is my favorite race every single year. Spa is, is my favorite circuit. And so to be there is like, it'll be a life changing thing. I'm staying pretty close to the track too, which is awesome. I'm there for all three days. And it's unbelievably inexpensive to do this. By the way. These larger legacy circuits get a big deal from Formula One. The amount they have to kick up to the sport basically is substantially lower than other circuits, like the newest ones in the United States that are owned by the sport itself. And so the tickets are not expensive. I think I paid, paid €500 for the whole three days.
Filippo
Wow.
Kenan
Whereas like, I'm also going to the Mexican Grand Prix in the fall and that was €500 for just sun or $500 for just Sunday. So it seems like a deal to me if you can get there. Of course like the cost is incurred getting there but nonetheless it should be quite a trip. I'm gone for a while but so I will not be on the next couple of podcasts which makes me sad you're leaving.
Doug
This is your last pod.
Kenan
This is my last pod for a couple of weeks and then we'll be back in regalia with stories of Europe.
Doug
Felipe, we're gonna lose Kenneth, we're lose Kenan.
Kenan
I'm sure crazy Nick will fill him.
Doug
Crazy driving around Europe, going to Monaco. You'd be driving an M5 around Monaco. Damn.
Kenan
Well, it's going to be. It'll be exciting. I can't wait to go and it'll be. It'll be a great trip. I haven't been back to Europe in a very long time so I'm really excited.
Filippo
I'm excited for you to go.
Kenan
I'm excited to see some very small European cars for you.
Filippo
Please take some photos and I'll take.
Kenan
Some pictures of stuff for you and also I'll send it. I'll submit it as a question.
Filippo
Please do please enjoy Italy especially which is the best country.
Kenan
It is and I wish I could.
Filippo
Be there longer but I'll laugh. I'm excited for you to get Formula one Earth, Kenneth.
Doug
Remember two things. You can go as fast as you want in Italy, however and there's no exceptions to that in Germany. It's only when the lines are through the thing. I don't know if you know the symbol, but I know the symbol in Switzerland. Do not even go one mile an hour above the speed of them. I'm not screwing with you. Your friend will be arrested the next time he even thinks plan.
Kenan
I plan to set this. This the the speed governor below the speed limit to set the cruise control.
Filippo
It will be the smoothest roads you've ever been on that I am. That are empty.
Kenan
I'm excited for like the. You know. Switzerland is a country I wish I could spend more time into. I don't have any time to do watch stuff unfortunately. But that's how it goes.
Doug
What a shame. What a damn shame.
Kenan
I'll tell you Lichtenstein beckons. You know.
Doug
Yes. Yeah. You know, hey, when I was in Liechtenstein I saw a gcab.
Filippo
Huh.
Kenan
Oh, I'll keep an eye open for it.
Doug
We have the best license plates in all of Europe. So there's some things going for it.
Filippo
Yeah.
Doug
I actually thought was a very cute little city and I think you will Enjoy your trip and I'm very sad that you're going to be leaving us, but it sounds like it'll be magical.
Kenan
I think it will be. It'll be. It'll be a fun trip and I haven't done a trip like this in a very long time, so it'll be fun. A proper grand tour.
Filippo
I'm excited to hear the story.
Doug
Definitely not coming with you.
Kenan
Deal. I didn't say she wasn't.
Filippo
Oh, wow.
Kenan
She has. Yeah, we. Yeah. Her M3 CRT doesn't get the best fuel economy.
Doug
All right, you got some topics for us but they're not very interesting. Except for the Abarth. Let's talk about the Abarth.
Filippo
I have a Fiat 500 Abarth Cabriolet. I've had it for two and a half years. I've put not very many miles on it. It's been reliable fully. It's never needed anything. It's never gone or anything. And very soon it's going to be on cars and bits because I just.
Doug
How are you going to disclose the poor way in which you treat the car like what is your plan?
Filippo
I. I do have a plan which is there's going to be a video where I go through every single flaw. I learned of a flaw two weeks ago.
Kenan
Well, that's weird.
Filippo
When I was. When I was driving with some friends and they pointed out some flaws with the car that I can't see that.
Doug
You'Re not going to be able to capture all the flaws and I'm going to try.
Filippo
I'm going to be a 20 minute long video and it's going to be every single flaw I can think of.
Kenan
We have some language we use to disclose cars that particularly rough. I don't think your car is rough enough to qualify for that.
Filippo
It's a bitter's responsibility to review the photo gallery and. Yeah.
Kenan
Prior to placing a bed.
Filippo
Yeah, I'm familiar. No, I. The car's been great. It has been legitimately flawless in that it's never had a single mechanical issue that has strained me in any way. It's gone just oil changes. It has been legitimately reliable. I just am no longer like enjoying the experience so much. I've had of two and a half years driven around and I presume you're.
Doug
Not enjoying the GTI either, so.
Filippo
No, I do like the gti. The GTI is excellent. I'm on this side of the gti. There's a part of me and my wife wants me to do this which is I should sell it and we don't have kids and now's the time to have like a sports car.
Doug
Nsx.
Filippo
No. Maybe there's another part of me that's like the GTI3. And my wife has said that it's the, that she loves that car and it's her favorite car.
Doug
So are you. Do you ever get tired of standing in your own way? Does that. Does that?
Filippo
No. I'm going to be honest, I don't.
Doug
Put that much thought towards your knees hurt. What's that?
Filippo
I don't put that much thought towards this. This car's so good.
Doug
But Filippo, don't you want for once in your life to do something raw like. Yeah. Kenan just told us he's going on a European road trip in an M5. He's going to Paris, God knows why, and various other good places. And he's going to be driving around Europe, shifting gears, going 160 miles an hour on the Autobahn until the oil pan destroys itself. And he's. He's going to have a blast. He's going to Spa Franch or Champs. That's how we pronounce it. And you're over here. I'm not sure I am who I am.
Filippo
What can I say?
Doug
Let's sell one hatchback and keep another hatchback. Cannon has grabbed life by the horn.
Kenan
Well, I have a confession to make. So I was supposed to do this in an E39M5. I was gonna. Oh, my God, you're not.
Doug
You're doing it in an Opel Corsa.
Kenan
I thought, well, that was available. But no, I. I think I'm gonna have to end up. So he's having worked onto the car. It's not going to be quite ready in time. And he's having a child. So it's like he's. And he's moving shops and he's got, like, a lot of stuff going on. And he's had two cars that are borrowed by friends that are recently, like.
Filippo
Destroyed by those friends.
Kenan
By. Yes. And so, like. And I don't want to do that to him because I like him a lot.
Doug
Car. What?
Kenan
So I don't know, it's either going to be an X3 M50i from where? From, from 6.
Filippo
No, you need a. A bad small hatchback.
Kenan
No, I want. No, you good. Comfortable.
Filippo
No, you don't. You don't. You need a thousands of kilometers. Doesn't matter. That's what we do every time we go to Italy. You need, you need a European small car. You need a European small car.
Kenan
I'm going to nine countries.
Filippo
That's like going from people in the northeast that say they've been to 17 states because they drove three hours.
Doug
Doesn' it?
Filippo
You need a small European hatchback with a manual. You just do.
Doug
I can't believe this isn't happening.
Kenan
I was going to surprise my friend Luke and have it there who listens to the podcast, but unfortunately it just didn't quite work out timing wise.
Doug
Ken. And just as I was over here telling Filippo to grab life by the horns, you've.
Kenan
I wanted to. It was my fault. I should have better coordinated with him. It was like they're servicing stuff like that or detailing stuff that quite get done.
Doug
Sounds like he's bailing on you.
Kenan
Well, to be honest with you, to drive that car around Europe, especially into Paris or anywhere in Italy, makes me nervous. It's a very special car that belongs to someone who is very special too.
Filippo
And so like small European hatchback.
Kenan
I don't. I'm not doing that.
Doug
I totally agree with Lupo, but I do think that it makes sense. I mean, it is a little sketchy to drive a car that you care about that far in places you're unfamiliar with on roads you're unfamiliar with in countries that have different rules. I mean, I truly, I almost always end up having some sort of damage on cars when I go to Europe. How. How? It doesn't matter because I'm not careful.
Kenan
Right. But. Right.
Doug
The thing is, Filippo, I don't want to be careful because that's kind of the benefit of it. Right. Like, right. If, if you, if, if you rent a car and get the insurance and all that, you don't have to think, I can't fit there. I got it. And then you, next thing you're seven miles outside the city center, walking back in.
Kenan
Exactly. And ultimately, like, if I need to swap this car out in a major city, if something goes wrong, it's easy to. From a rental company if something goes wrong, you need 39m5 and I have to ship it from Monaco to Frankfurt. Like that. That sucks. That's not great. So I've certainly thought about that now. It is still my dream to drive my own car in Europe. And that was kind of the point that threaten was making. He loves letting you know, friends of his borrow these cars so they can experience what it's like to go on the Autobahn in an E39 M5. But. But at the same time, like, it's just a really, really long journey. I do still dream of buying a car in Europe and driving it around though, like buying a 550 Marinello and driving it around for like in Italy would be unbelievably cool. And a Euromarket one that's less expensive. So I don't know. We'll see. That dream lives on. But for now, I'm going to go.
Doug
Experience Euro well regardless. Either way, Canon is grabbing life by the horns more than Filippo. An X3M. What did you say?
Kenan
50?
Filippo
I exist.
Doug
It does indeed.
Kenan
I didn't realize either.
Doug
I had one. My review on it's coming up. I had one in the office that was an X3 M50. It's actually a pretty quick car. It's just, it's no end. It's no E39 5, you know.
Kenan
No, of course not.
Doug
I don't expect that happens every time. Every time I go to Europe I think I want to rent something cool and then I end up in a V220D and I scrape the driver's side door on a parking curb.
Filippo
I I, I really assumed it was a passenger side because that makes way more sense.
Doug
But okay, yeah, yeah, it was the passenger side actually. Okay. But I've done drivers too.
Kenan

Doug
Okay, I want to very quickly give my Talk Cars segment which is directed at Ken and Kennen. The level to which I have destroyed the convertible G Wagon on this excursion has been really quite something and in fact currently we have a little game going on with my children where I've offered them a prize if they can find the power mirror switch, which was removed by my dog when he jumped over the center console. And one of his many times that he's jumped over the center console coming off of the sand. The power wind mirror switch, still missing. The top is having trouble going up and down, not because it has an issue, but because the switch for the top top has gotten so much sand inside of it that it won't depress fully. So when you push it to close the top, it can't go down all the way. So you end up having to lift up the. I have. So I have sand in places in the car. Here's another one. Every time the top comes, like, back on, sand is dumped on your head. I don't even know how it's possible that there's still sand in the top, but because, you know, it sits like this. So sand gets in it, and then it goes like this, and then sand, like, pushes down into your. It also hasn't rained here in weeks and weeks and weeks. And so the car is dirtier than on the outside than I've ever seen before.
Filippo
Ever.
Doug
What do you. What do you think?
Kenan
Well, like, as Tavares knows, you can never fully get rid of sand.
Doug
But I knew that.
Kenan
But that. I mean. So let me ask you. The Defender was kind of built for this. It was built to get dirty. Built to get trapped.
Doug
Leather, by the way. That's the other thing. The leather destroyed. I got, like, maybe one more summer of last. You know what?
Kenan
You should have it redone. A neoprene or something like that.
Doug
Can I ask you a question? What is Kevin gonna charge me to do this to get this car?
Kenan
How much you got?
Doug
I've also driven through tidal ponds. Oh, cool. And tidal ponds is brackish. It's salt water.
Kenan
Yeah. It must be the underside of that thing. Must be getting.
Doug
Well, we treated it. We treated.
Filippo
Oh, good. You're good. You're good. I'm glad you're using the vehicle as intended.
Kenan
I am, too.
Doug
To be honest. I knew that that was the.
Filippo
No. No other convertible G wagon has ever been on sand, first of all.
Doug
Yeah.
Filippo
Or used by children.
Doug
Do you think it's. You think Kenan's gonna charge me a thousand. Kevin's gonna charge me a thousand dollars.
Kenan
I think that's light.
Filippo
Yeah.
Kenan
I mean, he's got a vacuum out the top switch, and he's got to put the top up and, like, put it. He's got to clean inside where it's. I mean, you've got a lot of.
Doug
Sand is from last year. In fact, the. The sun visor mirrors are. I've never understood quite why and, And. But they always have been. And it's not always only since last summer. And so I, I think that's. I, I don't need him to fix that. I just.
Kenan
It's so peaceful to me that it's not my vehicle. I don't have to deal with this. This is not my problem.
Doug
It actually, it. It's gotten progressively worse, of course, over the summer, and I don't really care. We go to the beach every day and.
Kenan
Yeah, sure, baby.
Doug
The other night we had to. The other night we drove for some function. We wore nice clothes and got in the car, and I'm like, oh, my God. It was only when I got in the car with like, with like, like, nice pants and like, a nice belt and nice shirt that I'm like, this is so terrible. This is, like, completely unacceptable.
Kenan
That is so funny. It is. Oh, it always makes a car feel more dirty when you wear nice clothes to be in it. That is such an interesting observation. That's so true.
Doug
Anyway, I don't know what to do, but I, I. It's. It's.
Kenan
It's.
Doug
It's rough, you know?
Kenan
Yep. Spent three months on the stand on the sand. Gonna spend a month in the shop getting clean from being on the stand.
Doug
And the other thing about it that's interesting is I am at 99,940 miles.
Kenan
Wow. It's gonna happen.
Doug
I'm gonna hit 100,000 miles off road.
Kenan
Wow, cool. Do you. Are you gonna line it up with a special place, or is it just gonna happen?
Doug
No. And honestly, I probably won't be off road. I. With the children. You just. We're just, we're just surviving. We're just doing our best. We're just making life work here, you know? I bought it at 78, 000 miles, driven 22,000 miles.
Filippo
Wow.
Doug
Okay. We got to talk about the Mod 10, by the way. I want you to see it. I want you to see it how it it is. I want you to see it how it is before it gets clean so you can feel what this would be like.
Kenan
We'll film it. We'll. We'll include it as a clip somewhere.
Doug
This was at one point, a $200,000 car.
Kenan
I think about that every time you send pictures of it. I'm like, man, once upon a time.
Filippo
You think that shot that the. The carb legality knew that it would someday be on the east coast, driving on sand, getting sand. And the power mirror switch.
Kenan
I'll tell you, he didn't. I'll bet he wouldn't have thought about that.
Doug
My class basis is so low in that car that it's part of the. I don't care. Like, part of it is like, well, we'll clean it. And the thousand bucks in detail. Nothing compared to what. What it's gone up. It's like how Filippo thinks about his house. Okay.
Filippo
Or my.
Doug
Or my gti. We got to move on to the market report. The market report. The market report. Now, the market report is brought to you by Cars and Bids. The best website.
Filippo
Yeah.
Doug
Ever.
Filippo
Period.
Kenan
Yep. We have auctions. We have a community section. It's great.
Doug
Yeah. No, no, we don't need it, Ken. And don't cheapen it. It's like those art galleries that only have one painting right in the center. You don't. We don't want to throw a bunch of stuff around the edge. Which is the best website ever. All right, Kenan, tell us about the E9. You have the board.
Kenan
Yes. So we. Recently I mentioned that we were selling it. We have an E9 BMW 3 liter CSL, better known as the Batmobile, that was on cars and bids, and it sold for $381,000, which is strong money for an E9 Batmobile. Now, so our competitors have sold them too. But the. Which. The nearest one they sold to this was same year, same spec, had the stripes, had the wing and all that. And this car sold for substantially more than that. And it makes sense. This car was very nicely restored. I believe it's going to a museum in Canada. It is, and it was a magnificent car. But I am very proud of the result that we brought on this car for a number of reasons. Reasons. One is that, like, to have a car like this on cars and bids is tremendously special for us. And it's an honor to have a car that is so historically important on the site. This isn't just some special. Like, it's not just a BMW. This car gave birth to the M division, which is very cool. Number two is, I think the content we made on it was great. I'm not just saying because I was in the video. I think the entire team. Sean, our producer, stand in, our editor, and Matthew, who filmed with us all, did an incredible job. If you haven't watched it, you. Yeah.
Filippo
Truly incredible.
Kenan
It's in there somewhere. Yeah, there it is. And I'm very proud of the work we did with that. And I think that helped us achieve this result. But also the thing I think about the most is, like, we haven't been selling cars from this era for that long. This is a pretty. We're early in our days of this, and they're bringing. This car brought very serious money, a very competitive result that any auction house would be thrilled to have. And I think it underscores how far this company has come in five years in a pretty short period of time from when we launched it. Sitting out on your patio, socially distanced from one another during COVID to selling a Batmobile on the site. Like, that's a pretty great trajectory. So I'm very thrilled with this result. I'm happy for the next owners, and I hope lots of people get to see it in the museum. It's going to. It was a special car and thrilled honor. I feel honored to have had it on the site, thrilled to have driven it, and I'm really happy with the result.
Filippo
Incredible, incredible video. Sorry, go ahead, Doug.
Doug
I agree with all that, and I echo all that, and I think I'm just thrilled at the result. I was thrilled to have it. I. And I think the video was great, and I'm very impressed.
Kenan
And what a bidding war at the end. It was so much fun to watch. It was a wild.
Filippo
It went up almost $200,000 in the last two hours, and it was something like $150,000 in the last few minutes.
Kenan
Yep.
Filippo
Truly insane. I was walking through the Midway airport with my phone. I was on a. On a call, on, like a work call, and I just had my phone out watching every single bit come in.
Doug
It was, man, imagine if you're. Imagine if you're flying out of Chicago and you walk, walk. You're walking through the airport, and there's Filippo, like, head down on the slide out. You know, my.
Filippo
The person sitting next to me on my plane from Chicago to San Diego was watching, like, car reels on his phone. Like, I, like, sat down. There's like a 911 and some. That he flipped the next one, some other car thing, and then a cars and beds one came up and he's like, wait, yeah, yeah.
Doug
I was like, say something.
Filippo
Yeah, of course. We chatted for, like, half an hour.
Kenan
Great.
Doug
Oh, you don't have that chat until the end.
Filippo
I then have to do work when we reach 10,000ft. So we're good.
Doug
This is one person who's gotten recognized for 10 years on the street talking to you, who's now becoming truly coming into the fame. I always Knew you deserved. Wait till the end to have the conversation.
Filippo
The person I talked to you was very nice. We had a great conversation about cars.
Doug
They're not always. Sometimes it's awkward. Kenneth will tell you.
Kenan
Yeah, most of the time, everybody's been nice to me. I've only been recognized in the airport. A handful. But there was. There was the most memorable ones. There was a kid who sat next to me who was like, you make videos on YouTube, you, Doug? I was like, yes, I do. And he was a very sweet kid. I think that was from Denver back to you or something like that.
Filippo
But going back to the CSL, I mean, incredible car, incredible result. I mean, $100,000 above the most recent recent close comp. Which is. Which is crazy. Over 100,000 views, something like 3,000 watchers, a ton of comments. Also, the level to which the comments were true. Batmobile experts were crazy, right? Like, people got deep on who rebuilt the seats and how that one guy rebuilds them differently than this other guy. Like that. There's true knowledge in that. In those 339 comments.
Doug
That's happening more and more. The cars that are special that we're getting, we're getting more and more people who really, really know the cars and understand the market and our true market experts. Experts.
Kenan
It's great to get their input on stuff like this. It's. It's that one of the values of our community is. It's nice to see them resonate with. With the cars and bring their knowledge to it.
Filippo
Yep.
Doug
On the subject, I want to talk briefly about the F8 because I was pretty impressed. Speaking of $381,000 car sales. Right. We sold an F8 for 391, right?
Kenan
Yep, 391.
Doug
Hey, would you rather.
Kenan
Yeah, that's. Yeah. Well, you know, I don't know.
Doug
I. I'm. I'm not an old car guy as much I'd be into the. But that's actually one of the reasons I wanted to bring this up, which is when the F8 came out, I remember the Internet and Canon telling me turbocharged crap. Nobody wants a turbo. It's not a real. It's not naturally aspirated. They ruined the whole car.
Kenan
No, that was the 488. I said that about.
Doug
They're holding big. Yeah, well, okay. It's the same. I mean, the concept is the same. These things are holding big. Aren't you surprised about that?
Kenan
I am surprised. I guess it. I mean, I guess it kind of makes sense. I mean, it's. It really I mean I know the 296 carries on the torch from the lineage of these cars, but this is it for the non hybrid, you know, V8 Ferraris. Like I. We have eras that we mark off with with the V8 Ferraris. And like the, the dual clutch was one. When the 458 came along that was a huge change. I think this marks the end of that sort of lineage to now we switch to. I mean now you have the 296 on hybrid and so V6 and so this is the end if you want the more not analog but more. How do I say this? Pure. I guess.
Filippo
Yeah.
Kenan
Ferrari. I have to say I stand by it. I think it is one of the most usable, unusable cars I've ever driven. It drives like a normal car at low speed and it blows your head off at high speed. But it is a. I think that's why I, I am kind of surprised at the result. But I'm happy that they're holding strong. It's a special car.
Filippo
By the way, the week prior we sold a different, different F8 spider also for strong money that had a little bit more miles.
Doug
But nevertheless, yes, those two results are strong. The F8 is still, is still got the mojo. It's not that old and they're not selling for dramatically less than two nine sixes which is interesting. I think it's a cool car. I think that was a good result also. And I just wanted to highlight that even though we were told that the Ferrari is crashing down to the 458 was the last true one and blah blah blah blah, the market doesn't agree. And almost $400,000 for this four year old. That's, that's real money. I mean those, those cars are still setting a strong market.
Filippo
Surprising.
Doug
I will give you, I will give you one thing to discuss. What do you really discuss?
Filippo
Yeah, okay. I like want to talk about the Excursion. We had an Excursion live the other day. Yeah. Which is a wild automobile.
Kenan
I did.
Filippo
And crazy. Okay, so this was a Ford Excursion that was converted in 20011 to an armored by Becker. It's like an armored limo build and they had an insane amount of money put into it. 200 something thousand. I think I added it up close to $300,000 in work in 2001 to make it armored and a limo. And now it has 19,000 miles and it fails to meet reserve at $74,000. Which by the way is what a regular 7.3 excursion with 18. I'm not from it just like this served such a specific purpose for whoever had it commissioned in 2001. But who's the buyer now?
Doug
You know, I would also argue that it was a failure because they didn't get shot.
Filippo
They didn't get shot at. They get to use it.
Kenan
Just because you have a Rolex sea dweller that can go down 4,000ft or whatever, that doesn't mean you use it that way. They want to know that it could.
Doug
We have different opinions about this. I'm still looking for my power mirror switch because I'm off road every day. This guy didn't do enough to get shot. He thought he did enough to get shot. If I had a Rolex sea creature or whatever, you said I would go, yeah, yeah, That I would drive. I would.
Filippo
He would dwell in the sea. Yeah.
Doug
Take my sea critter and I would drive, dive down and get that. That sea urchin under the water.
Kenan
Yeah. All right.
Filippo
My favorite part, by the way, is that it was then service at Portland courtesy Ford in Portland, Oregon, after it got converted. And I wonder. I wonder what.
Kenan
Just because it. What was the purpose initially, it doesn't look that crazy, but when you go.
Doug
In to service that, you got to tell them they can't put it on a lift.
Filippo
Yeah, yeah. It weighs it in. It's such a cool car. Like, incredibly, incredibly cool car. People were going crazy over it in. In the comments and viewing this auction. The value to the person that built it is so significant, but it's a value to anything anybody else. It's a weird car to sell.
Doug
It's kind of a famous thing about bulletproof cars. We've actually taken quite a few shots on bulletproof cars on the site. I don't know that we've ever sold one. Bulletproof cars are. Yeah. Bulletproof car. Unlike the fellow who owned this one. Bulletproof cars are. You don't want to buy one. You.
Kenan
Right.
Doug
Like, that's. It's like a mattress. Like, you don't want to take a risk on something like that. You know what I mean? Like. Like, if you're. If you really need a bulletproof car, the last thing you really want is to be like, yeah, I'll buy. I'll buy somebody else's used one. That I hope was done right. Look, we sold that Escalade. Was that armor?
Filippo
Yeah, but I think a different level of armoring. I don't know the various levels.
Kenan
They're level sol.
Filippo
Oh, my goodness. The back of that Escalade. Wow.
Doug
Well, that's what they have to do because of the. Because of the rear window. Window. I learned this when I reviewed that 300 Series Land Cruiser and went to that armoring place in Northern Virginia. There's a lot to it.
Filippo
Go to photo three or of the interior. Look at that.
Doug
You have to do that because there's such an open space there that they basically have to put in like an armored panel in between.
Filippo
Yeah.
Kenan
On the windows. Like because the guy we know who works their camera, that one was talking about the window regulators. Because they want the windows to be able to go up and down in order to do that. Because the bulletproof glass is so thick. It's like, it's like the engineering it takes to make it look like a normal car and function like a normal car after you've done this is for. For companies that do it right. Is really expensive and hard.
Doug
The used market doesn't really reward them. I agree with you. What do you do with stuff like this? It's not like a. It's not like some cool like SEMA build. Like it was made for a purpose for someone who really needed it. And now it's just tough to justify. Someone who wants an armored car does not want to pay crazy money for a 23 year old Ford Excursion.
Kenan
There are cars that retain their value SEMA built.
Filippo
I will also say if you are at a, a, if you are worried about being shot for some actions you've taken, there's a good chance you're also willing to invest a lot of money in preventing that from happening.
Doug
Right? That's right.
Filippo
Willing and able. Now I do want to know why they had it done in Portland.
Doug
Do you, Filippo, do you think that's the car you would least be likely to buy on cars and bids that.
Filippo
Oh God, no. I'm into it.
Doug
Pull up. It's time for questions. The questions are brought to you by Cars and bids. The greatest.
Filippo
The greatest done.
Doug
Not just website. Now, if you want to ask questions, you go to carsandbids.com, you click on the community tab. Kennan makes a post every week. Kennan himself does it. And it says, ask us your questions. And then we. You can ask us and then we'll answer them. This week is one of my. Some of my favorite questions we've ever had in my life. And I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna answer them. Okay. I am Kenan and Filippo. Okay. We begin with the first question from Eric44. This is gonna be a quick one because I've given this a lot of Thought over the last 20 years. Filippo, get out of here.
Kenan
Here.
Doug
First question is you're making back to the future. But the DeLorean is replaced. It's a modern era. The DeLorean is replaced by a quirky modern era car. What replaces it? And what quirk stands in for gullwing doors? I think the answer is the Fisker Karma replaces it. I've always felt that the DeLorean was sort of a like moribund, stillborn, you know, but weird. Like American. Like it's perfectly. And it's also built in Europe, which the DeLorean was too. And it's got all the. All these, these. It's like a perfect modern day DeLorean.
Filippo
And then it.
Doug
And then it died. And it only was one model. Etc. But I don't know. The quirk, perhaps. Perhaps the quirk would be every company that has tried to sell that vehicle has failed.
Kenan
And there have been multiple ecotech portal Fisker design.
Doug
Don't you think that Fisker Karma is the DeLorean of the modern era?
Filippo
Yeah. Somebody in the comments there said Chevy ssr, which has something to it, something to that. But I think you're right on the parallels working for the. The Fisker made a time machine out of.
Kenan
Yeah. Out of a car.
Doug
You don't think it would be a time machine?
Kenan
I. I mean, I, I guess I. I can't come up with a cyber truck. You know what the other parallel is?
Doug
It would struggle to reach 88 miles an hour.
Kenan
Yeah.
Filippo
Ecotech 4 is only cyber. Cyber truck is. Is there. And our producer has like thrown up his hands multiple times now.
Doug
So we talked about the cyber truck. Yeah, the cyber truck, though. The same thing. The DeLorean was moribund. You need to understand. It was moribund.
Kenan
But it. But this also is. Has a body of brushed stainless steel.
Doug
Yeah, but that's not the same thing. That's not the same thing. The cybertruck is. Is more popular. That would have been like in the 80s using like a 308, like the well known or a Countach, like a well known thing that was already capturing the public. The DeLorean, everyone agrees, was made exciting because of its existence in the movie. Movie. Like the Fisker Karma would owe its life to the movie if it was in it. And it's moribund.
Filippo
The Lexus rz. There you go.
Doug
No, that's stupid.
Filippo
It's a car you want to draw attention to. Nobody knows it exists. There you go.
Doug
Oh, RZ is pretty bad. Okay, next question. This one's for Kenan. And. And I got two things to say about this question. First off of the question itself, PC Racer. Hey, guys, at what age would you let your children drive your car? Cars? I'm 25, and my dad lets me drive his 488. But he knows I wouldn't risk doing anything stupid on the road because it would affect my career, which took years to study for. I think that this person just wants to brag that his dad has a 488. Not much of a brag, although I think it is. Nonetheless, the question is a good one because I'm curious what your response would be. Kenneth, let's pretend you and Emily had children and they're running around looking little. Kanano and Kanini. What? When would you let them drive the beloved M5 that they were presumably conceived in.
Kenan
Brought back from the hospital, and at least.
Filippo
Oh, really? You would put a. The car seat will create little.
Kenan
I mean, I would put. I would put something down that's not safe. Well, I think the. I don't know. It's a good question. I think when. If you grow. If you have. I didn't grow up in a car household. My dad wasn't into cars, so it was like, the idea of growing up and, like, if your kids are interested in cars, sharing the hobby with them, if they genuinely grow up around it and, like, respect the cars and stuff like that, I can definitely see it happening. I. I think that, like, like everybody in my life, I would imagine my kids would be terrified to drive the car.
Filippo
I'm not terrified of your car.
Kenan
You don't want to. No one wants the.
Filippo
No one wants to respond to. But I'm not terrified.
Doug
I'll drive it. I'll drive it. If I crash it, I'll give you the 13, 850 that it's worth.
Filippo
The last time Doug drove one of my cars, he drove it onto a sidewalk. But, you know.
Kenan
Well, I'd rather. Yeah.
Doug
Well, I have a picture of him in the driver's seat on the sidewalk in the car. That's all I. That's all I'm saying.
Kenan
But, no, I think at some point, like, I can see, like, I could see, like, my kids drive the car. My dad has driven the car without me in it on a couple of occasions. He's. I took it to get his haircut once when I first got it, and he just. I was like, yeah, go ahead, take the M5. And he did.
Doug
Would you let me drive the car?
Kenan
Under what circumstances?
Doug
Crt. I have a career. GT it costs A million dollars.
Kenan
I know, but it would almost. It would almost be easier to get another CRT than. Well, not to your luck. The thing about both of us is you're so slow. Well, not to replicate the level of service.
Doug
The comments again, but you always do, so it's fine.
Kenan
No, that's. That's a. It's fair. No, I know you have all these really expensive cars, and all. All of my friends have really expensive cars, but everybody seems afraid. Afraid to drive the M5 because of how significant it is in my life. And. And it's like, to replace it is like, I would have to buy one with that level of servicing, and most of the parts to do that are no longer available. So, like, it would be really hard to replace Doug. So that's. That's why most people are using it. But I would let my kids drive it, and I would let you drive it.
Doug
I mean, he's dancing around it, but the answer is never. He won't even let his adult automotive enthusiast friends, who.
Kenan
I will, but they don't want to. Nobody wants to.
Doug
I just. I don't need. Drive it. Let me drive it. I want to drive it. Oh, I want to do 11.
Kenan
As long as I can drive the Countach.
Filippo
Once Kenan passes away and it's in probate, then at that point, they will have to drive.
Doug
It doesn't matter.
Filippo
Doesn't matter. What's your answer? You actually have children?
Doug
Oh, I've never really given a thought, but it doesn't seem like my kids are gonna. Are gonna be that interested. But I don't, you know, I don't know. Like, I'm not letting my kids drive. The cars are incredibly valuable. What are we. What are we trying to let kids drive cars? Geez.
Kenan
I think you would at some point if they had an experience.
Doug
I don't know. No, it's definitely not on my mind. I'm trying to get through them. I'm trying to get through each morning. That's my goal with my children right now.
Kenan
The thing they would learn about you is that you are the worst backseat driver I have ever experienced in my entire life. It is so distracting. You go to shift gears. It's like, wow, you're shifting there. You should use more rest. Why are you revving it too much? You're going too fast. You're not going fast enough. What are you doing? It's awful.
Doug
I want to be clear. It's rarely about your speed. It's usually about the engine speed. I usually really get on you about Gear shift shifts, but only because I know that you hate it. I don't. Filippo notoriously shifts at 40 RPM, and I don't. I don't.
Kenan
His driveway is six feet long, and by. By foot number four, he's in third gear. So.
Doug
Okay, next question. Next question from Open Smacks. It's probably Opens Max, but I'm going to say Open Smacks. Question for Doug. Of the cars in your cars and bids Bids history. Which are you most relieved you did not win? And which are you most most disappointing? Kenneth, pull up my bid history. All right, so go down in my bid history. What have I been on? 993 Turbo Stradman supra A612. Two smart cross blades. That Focus ST Strop Transit Connect Hummer EV is definitely the one. I'm most relieved I didn't win that 2500 suburban.
Filippo
I hope you regret not buying that 2500 subject road.
Doug
Okay, definitely the one that I'm most relieved I didn't win is the Hummer ev. Although I didn't put in a serious bid. I think the one that I wish that I had won the most is the Smart Cross Blade. I mean, I still think about those cars pretty regularly.
Kenan
Yeah, those are so cool.
Doug
Although I would love a993 Turbo. That one was a little. Little bit too modded for me. But I want a Smart Cross Blade. Don't we all?
Kenan
Don't we all?
Doug
Okay, next. Next question. This is the hardest question we've gotten, Kenneth. Maybe from Neon Espresso. Now, it should be Espresso, but it's Espresso. If you.
Filippo
But no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. The Neon Express was, if memory serves, a trim level of the Neon.
Doug
I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what I'll do. Wait a sec.
Filippo
It was Neon Espresso was the trim Espresso. So we got to give Neon Espresso credit.
Doug
I thought it was Espresso this whole time. This is really gun wild.
Kenan
That is deep.
Doug
Next question. Next question. From Neon Expresso. If you had triplicaden, this is very hard. If you had to replace all of your cars with brand new ones, meaning cars currently on sale New in 25, what would your choices be? I know my 25 Sequoia 25 E class station wagon. After that, it gets murky. Kenan, what do you got?
Kenan
After that, it gets murky. I don't know. I need a second to come back to that.
Doug
You buy probably M3, don't you think? Non comp. M3.
Filippo
M3.
Kenan
Yeah. Probably manual. M3 would be great. I wish I'd get it in a wagon, but actually, that's the correct answer. Yeah, the V. The V. Black Wing is the car I would choose.
Doug
Filippo, I don't think anybody's interested in your answers. And mine would be hard. What's still available with the three pedals? Anything.
Filippo
911S.
Doug
Yeah, I'd get a 911st. Yeah, I'd get a. Well, that, that Gordon Murray Academy car.
Kenan
Car.
Doug
And anything else, I'd get the electric G wagon instead of. Oh, yeah, there's no convertible.
Kenan
I take it to Newport Convertible Engineering. They'll make one for you.
Filippo
There you go.
Kenan
Yeah, you can still get sand in it.
Doug
Manual sports cars. Are there still any others that I'm not thinking of that are like, in that range? I guess like a spider maybe. But that's not on this. On sale anymore.
Kenan
No.
Doug
It's tough. Tough for me. I. I wouldn't. I wouldn't be entirely thrilled with a lot of Porsches. It's all. It'd be a lot of boring Porsches.
Kenan
What about what would replace the Countach?
Doug
That's the thing. I don't know.
Kenan
Not the new Countach, surely, also.
Filippo
That's a year old. That's fine, right?
Doug
Yeah, it doesn't count. I don't know. It'd be tough. So I'd get a 911st, and I'd get the Gordon Murray Academy, and then I'd be out of cars. Now this leads us to our next question from the Stig 11. It's a three word question aimed at Kenan. Three word question.
Kenan
Okay.
Doug
Enzo, though, or MC12.
Filippo
Ooh, one's longer, so.
Kenan
Well, no, technically two are longer. They're two lengths of the MC12. A long one and a longer one.
Doug
But no one's ever seen two MC12s next to each other, so we. Nobody will confirm.
Filippo
Also longer regardless.
Doug
Right?
Kenan
I think it would still be the Enzo for me.
Filippo
Really?
Kenan
The Enzo is. Is such a. I've been looking a lot at that car recently. Like pictures and stuff. It is crazy. The MC12 is also not particularly usable. You're the only person I know who's driven one, Doug. But I mean, no visibility out the rear of that car. Like, it's just the Enzo can. You can kind of use as like a car a little bit.
Doug
I'm gonna tell you something, and I just want to say it and you take it how you want. When I was driving the MC12, I wasn't looking behind Me.
Kenan
Yep. I knew that's exactly what you were gonna say, Kel. Suprise. I think it ends up. Doors go up, it says Ferrari on it.
Doug
Yeah. I will say that the MC12 has a radio.
Filippo
Oh, oh.
Doug
And power windows.
Filippo
Which would you choose?
Doug
Does that change your mind?
Kenan
No, I think I like the Enzo more.
Doug
Which would I choose? Man, I would love to have one of those cars. I spent the last 25 years hating how the Enzo looked. And in the last six months I've come around to it. Honestly. It was when you showed that Enzo in Monaco in my video Just, just 30 minutes ago. I think that was it. That was the moment. Moment. No, I'm into the Anza, but I think. How do you not get an MC12? You'd flex on everybody.
Filippo
Flex on everybody.
Kenan
It's true. But I mean it's not like that. Although that's a model. It's not like that isn't a flex on everybody. Yeah, that's still pretty good. And I think that for a car that design that is 22 years old now, that still looks just as cutting edge. Whereas the MC12 look funny to me.
Doug
You know what you do, Canon? You take the Enzo and you go to that place that Nick went to in Texas or where forever and you have it manual swapped.
Kenan
I've thought about that. Having one up that like, can you imagine what that would be like? I was thinking about that recently.
Filippo
The MC12 is also a good looking car.
Doug
You know what you do with the M12 large? You know what you do with the MC12 canon? You get one and then you take it to that place where Nick went in Texas or wherever and you get it manual swapped.
Kenan
You know I was thinking about that recently.
Doug
All right, I gotta do. We got, we got two more questions. Two very, very short questions that they're more, more. They're both great. Oh no, wait, three more. Three more good ones. Two will go through really quick from number one from the Mishka. Given your conversation about the manual cayenne, do you think Porsche would be successful if it sold a manual macan today? Could it capture the population of former WRX wagon owners who are now older, richer and more refined? The answer to that is no. But no circumstances at all.
Filippo
But it would be successful in the secondary market 15 years from now.
Doug
But. But only for a third of its value. Listen, is successful but only at 25 grand being sold to car nerd. Like that's not a car they ever should have made it on. I don't even think it probably was a success at the time.
Filippo
Financially, I can't imagine it was.
Doug
Two more from Oliver. Cax 9 for Filippo. If you had to buy a car right now on Cars and Bids, what would it be and why? Get out there. Get out there.
Filippo
I will come back to this answer.
Kenan
We discuss this every single week on the Live now section. We do on the Cars YouTube channel.
Doug
Give us. Give us it. Give us it.
Filippo
I'm scrolling.
Kenan
Don't you think it's that.
Filippo
I want the Earth Roamer. I do love the Earth. The Earth Roamer is the coolest car we've ever had on course of bed. It's like. It's like a truly elite level of that.
Doug
It's too big. Get.
Filippo
I think we have a Boxer Spider live now and we also have a C7 with a stick. Live now, and we also have a 550 with a stick live right now.
Doug
Is it not that 300C SRT8 convertible? Seriously?
Filippo
No, not. It's not. It's not. Absolutely not. It would be. Can I give you four cars that we have live right now that I want?
Kenan
Sure.
Filippo
Like, really want? I can pull them up quickly. All right. We have a 2016 Boxer Spider.
Kenan
Yep.
Filippo
Which is a good car.
Kenan
Next car.
Filippo
It's a good car.
Kenan
It is very similar spec to our friend Sam.
Filippo
Good car. We also have a. It's in New Orleans.
Kenan
It's in. Yes.
Filippo
We also have a 550 Marinello, which I also want. I do love the 550.
Kenan
Yep. It is.
Filippo
We have a really nice E46 M3 Comp.
Doug
Really?
Filippo
Yeah.
Kenan
That's something you would.
Filippo
The 2006.
Kenan
That's something.
Filippo
That's a special car.
Kenan
I. I agree.
Doug
This is a special car.
Filippo
I would want it. And then last but certainly not least, we have a Saab 9320T Sport Combi with a stick.
Doug
So basically. Basically what. What Filippo did there was he promoted three very special cars that he wanted people to see. And then he told us what he actually wants.
Filippo
Well, it's not the one I actually most want. Although I consider bidding.
Doug
Right.
Kenan
That's exactly. You pick. Yeah. Because if the car is I like, it's probably not really what you want in your heart.
Filippo
The Boxer spider and the 846M3 have my eye right now.
Kenan
The Boxer Spyer we did agree on. Was that in that video?
Filippo
Yeah, it was incredible.
Kenan
Yeah. Lovely car.
Doug
Last question comes to us from Badgerman, and it's a very good question. If you could change the spec of your car for free, what would you pick? Kenan, start off color Avis blue with.
Kenan
A two tone full leather sport interior.
Doug
What's Avis blue? I don't remember what Avis blue is.
Kenan
Avis blue is the predecessor to Le Mans. It was the slightly earlier, slightly darker.
Doug
Do you like Avis better than Lamar?
Kenan
Yes, I do. It's a little bit rarer. I don't know if.
Filippo
Down to the left. There you go.
Doug
Far left.
Kenan
This one. Yeah. This was a rough carb. I think this was the. No, this one was Avis. That is. Ignore the awful wheels, but I mean, hey, it's absolutely terrible. But there, that's a good one. That looks stock there. Yeah. Avis blue.
Doug
Yeah.
Kenan
And then the two tone full leather sport interior. They offered only for the 2000 model year. This was the spec that I wanted. I actually made an offer on a car that was the spec and it just didn't work out. Numbers. Why? And then I found my car was in like nicer condition overall. But still, that's the dream. Cream blue is the one.
Doug
Filippo and the gti, it'd be really.
Filippo
Nice to have keyless entry or it has a key fob, but it'd be nice to have. That's the one thing. That's it.
Kenan
Would you do a spectrum color change.
Doug
The color of any of your cars?
Filippo
No, I love the wagon color. Mocha black is a great designo color.
Kenan
You wouldn't want red with light wheels for the. The.
Filippo
The Fiat's the right color. It's not my favorite of our color, but it's works. The gti I would prefer.
Kenan
That's the whole crux of the question.
Doug
Yeah, but like it works.
Filippo
The gray is better, but I. The white.
Doug
White wheels. White. White wheels is the best color.
Filippo
That's also true. But I like the black, especially after Ken and cleans it. The gti, I don't care about color specimen.
Doug
Okay, I'm gonna give you a Sean take for me.
Filippo
Oh, God.
Doug
All the cars are the best spec. Yeah.
Kenan
No, I choose the press colors, but except for. Well, the Countach technically isn't. It should have a white interior. That would make it the best.
Doug
Yeah. Although the white interiors. The more countaches I see with white interiors, they keep coming up. They. The white interiors age so badly and you end up having to do full interior replacements. It just looks like white leather after 40 years just starts to look gross. Like it. People getting in and out. It's just gross. It's like truly like. Yeah, it cracks and it. And then the cracks get color colored and it yellows and it browns, and it's just not an attractive situation.
Filippo
The only one I disagree with is your wagon. I don't love the interior color.
Doug
Yeah, I wish I hadn't gotten a wet interior. Didn't consider any of that before the whole thing happened.
Kenan
What about the Ford? You'd put the base wheels on the Ford gt?
Doug
Yeah, but if I. You know what, Kenan? If I would do that, I could. Like, they come up for sale, and it's like a $20,000 price difference, but I never have. So I guess I wouldn't, you know, sitting here like, oh, I like the base wheels. Well, okay, do something about it then. The Ford. It's taken me an enormously long amount of time to come around to the colors on all these cars. Cars. I wanted a Heritage 4 GT for a long time. I wanted white for a long time. I probably. If I had to change the 4 GT colors, I'd probably change to white with blue stripes like that one there. However, the market loves blue with white stripes, which is what I have. In fact, it's the second hottest color after heritage in terms of pricing. So I guess. And I've grown to like it. The courageous I am like a deep silver convert is the only color I'm interested in, and I think that brown is the best interior. I wanted yellow for so long, and now I see yellow ones, and it's just a little much. The Countach white is just like how it has to be. The Sequoia Mercedes I did buy new, and the G wagon's got to be silver. I got no regrets.
Filippo
You should regret the white interior.
Doug
But you know what? It's the dog, not the kids, which is a surprise. It's the dog, not the kids. The dog has ruined that interior. I don't know what I'm gonna do. Charge me a bunch of money to fix that, too.
Kenan
Tough noodles. Worth it.
Doug
Okay, do we have any. Kenan, do you have any final parting thoughts? You're gone for a month.
Kenan
I'm gone for a month, and I will miss you all very much. I will certainly be checking in and listening to the podcast when I can, but nonetheless, I hope to have a wonderful trip. I can't wait to, you know, bring stuff back from Europe and tell you stories, and it'll be great. Can't wait to see you all again.
Doug
Listen to the podcast when you can.
Kenan
I got stuff I'm doing. I'm. I'm Lake out of Lake Como, and you call me, and I look at the phone. I'm going to go put it back down again.
Doug
When was last time I called you?
Kenan
A long time.
Doug
It's been an absolute pleasure. Felipe, you got anything? Any. Any interesting.
Filippo
Not. Safe travels to Europe.
Kenan
Thank you.
Filippo
Enjoy. Send me photos of fiat pandas, 4x4s in Lake Como.
Kenan
We'll look as many as I can.
Filippo
They'll be easy.
Doug
I'm jealous that. That you're gone for a month. That would be nice. All right, everyone, we'll see you. We'll see you later. Who's filling in? Is Nick filling in? Nick is filling in.
Kenan
And I'm sure you'll have to cut out some lewd stuff that he says.
Filippo
I'd expect nothing less.
Doug
All right. Absolute pleasure. Best podcast we've ever done, Felipe.
Filippo
Goodbye, everybody. Goodbye.
Kenan
Goodbye.
Podcast Summary: THIS CAR POD! with Doug DeMuro & Friends! Episode: Trump Killed the Electric Car, Doug’s Bid History, a Bentley for Dogs? Release Date: July 11, 2025
I. EV Tax Credit Phase-Out and Market Implications
The episode kicks off with a critical discussion on the recent legislative changes affecting electric vehicles (EVs). Filippo highlights that the federal EV tax credit of $7,500, applicable to both new and used EVs, will be entirely phased out by September 2025. This abrupt removal is expected to significantly increase leasing costs for popular models like the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 5N, and Ford Mach-E.
Filippo explains, “After September of this year, there'll be no more EV tax credits” (00:45). Doug expresses his frustration, stating, “The government puts the incentive on. And that's the only thing making people buy... It’s probably also generally good, at least for homeowners in this case” (02:32). The hosts debate the rationale behind the government's decision, questioning how it hampers domestic automakers’ competitiveness against heavily subsidized foreign brands, particularly from China.
II. Slate's EV Future
Filippo brings up the Slate EV, initially marketed as an affordable option under $20,000, now projected to launch at $27,500 due to the absence of the tax credit. Doug laments, “What's Slate. Is it over? Like, is it over over?” (06:51). The consensus is pessimistic, with Filippo noting, “That pricing does not work in their favor anymore” (06:16). However, there remains a slim hope that political shifts might restore incentives, potentially reviving Slate's original pricing strategy.
III. Rivian R1T/R1S Announcements
The conversation shifts to Rivian’s latest offerings, the R1T and R1S. Filippo details their impressive specifications: “1025 horsepower, 1198 pound-feet of torque from a motor in each wheel” (10:35). Kenan adds enthusiasm, “It's insanely fast. 2.5 seconds to 60” (10:48). They discuss the advanced features like tank turns and extensive customization options, though Filippo criticizes the minimal visual differentiation for such powerful vehicles.
Doug muses on the future of automotive innovation, suggesting, “We should probably be forcing automakers more and more to figure out new and better technologies so that they can compete on the global scale” (04:43). The hosts agree that while power remains a cornerstone, the next automotive frontier lies in unique amenities and quirky features.
IV. Nurburgring Crash at Spa
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to a recent crash at the Nurburgring involving a Porsche and a BMW M2. Filippo notes, “Both drivers were okay, which is a testament to modern cars” (17:02). Doug elaborates on the incident, explaining the Porsche's risky overtaking maneuver during a tourist day, compounded by the BMW being a visitor from the UK, resulting in visibility issues. The discussion underscores the advancements in vehicle safety, with Filippo stating, “The passenger compartment is impressively intact” (18:34).
V. Bentley EXP15 Concept EV
Kenan introduces Bentley's latest concept, the EXP15, an EV that controversially retains a large front grille despite not requiring one for cooling. Filippo observes, “It's a concept that clearly shows Bentley’s direction in design” (22:43). The hosts debate its practicality and aesthetic, with Doug appreciating its “road presence” but questioning the removal of functional elements like the grille. They ponder the future of Bentley’s design language, balancing luxury and modern EV necessities.
VI. Kenan's European Road Trip Plans
Kenan shares exciting news about his upcoming European road trip to attend a friend’s wedding and explore iconic car destinations. His itinerary includes stops in Frankfurt, Paris, Limoges, Monaco, Lake Como, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Stuttgart, and the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa. Filippo and Doug engage with Kenan’s plans, expressing anticipation for his reports and photos. Kenan emphasizes his passion for motorsports, especially Formula One, and the affordability of attending events like the Belgian Grand Prix compared to other locations.
VII. Ferrari SP3 Daytona's Final Auction
The hosts discuss Ferrari’s announcement to end production of the SP3 Daytona, with only one final unit set for auction to benefit Ferrari’s charities. Kenan describes the car’s unique aesthetics, “Half yellow, half exposed carbon fiber” (28:28), and the accompanying exclusive accessories like the Maranello clutch handbag. They speculate on the auction’s potential value, considering historical precedents where limited-edition Ferraris fetched multiples of their original MSRP. Doug notes, “It's the last of breed and has immense value” (30:02).
VIII. Talk Cars Segment: European Road Trip Preparations and Experiences
In the Talk Cars segment, Kenan elaborates on his European trip, detailing his plans to visit car museums, attend the Belgian Grand Prix, and explore the scenic roads of Italy and Switzerland. Doug humorously recounts his own mishaps with his convertible G Wagon, plagued by sand and mechanical issues, contrasting Kenan’s well-planned expedition. Filippo discusses his preparations and anticipates Kenan sharing stories and photos from the journey, highlighting the camaraderie among the hosts.
IX. Car Market Report: E9 BMW Batmobile Sale and Implications
Kenan proudly announces the successful sale of a BMW E9 3-liter CSL, affectionately dubbed the "Batmobile," for $381,000 on Cars and Bids. Filippo praises the auction’s success, noting the extensive attention and expert commentary it garnered. Doug echoes the sentiment, emphasizing the platform’s growth from humble beginnings to handling high-value, historically significant vehicles. Kenan reflects on the community’s deep knowledge and engagement, which significantly contributed to the auction’s remarkable outcome.
X. Armored Ford Excursion Auction Insights
The discussion turns to the sale of an armored Ford Excursion converted into an armored limo by Becker for approximately $300,000. Filippo expresses fascination with its specialized design, though Doug remains skeptical about its resale value: “It’s tough to justify... Someone who wants an armored car does not want to pay crazy money for a 23-year-old Ford Excursion” (60:08). They debate the niche market for such vehicles, acknowledging the meticulous engineering required but questioning its practicality and appeal in the secondary market.
XI. Listener Q&A Highlights
The episode features a lively Q&A segment where listeners pose questions about car preferences and hypothetical scenarios:
Replacing the DeLorean in Back to the Future: Filippo suggests the Fisker Karma as a modern counterpart due to its unique design, though Kenan debates its practicality.
Age to Let Children Drive High-Performance Cars: Kenan humorously discusses the challenges and responsibilities of allowing children to drive powerful vehicles, emphasizing safety and respect for the cars.
Choosing Cars if Forced to Replace Current Fleet: Filippo expresses a desire for the Earth Roamer and a Ferrari 550 Marinello, while Doug contemplates high-performance models like the 911st and the Gordon Murray Academy car.
Spec Changes to Existing Cars: Kenan discusses personal preferences for color and interior modifications, highlighting the importance of aesthetic and functional enhancements.
