I can't think of two better people to help me with this situation. My three and a half year old son, he has done everything lefty so far. Like he just naturally likes to swing, whether it's golf clubs. So I'm buying him lefty golf clubs. Bought him a lefty glove just the other day. Picks up a ball with the right hand and throws me an absolute dart bullet on a string. The throwing arm, way better right handed hitting lefty. And scooter, he scoots on his. His push off foot is his left foot. What am I dealing with here? I am so confused by what this kid is. Any advice?
Matt Leinart
That's fairly common, Jerry, don't worry.
Nick Swisher
Can I also just point out the most obvious thing? He's three, bro.
Jerry Ferrara
That's a good point. That's a good point. All right, here we go, another episode of Throwbacks. Thank you everybody for joining us. However you are listening or watching us today, please remember to subscribe whether it's YouTube, Apple, Spotify and hit us up on orlas and or. Why can't I say that Matt on all our socials?
Matt Leinart
It's because you're nervous. Because you're nervous about the Yankees, bro.
Jerry Ferrara
Let's go at throwback. Yeah, I can't speak today because the Yankees are in the World Series warriors.
Matt Leinart
Or you're still flustered about your Knicks opening loss. I don't know. It's one of those things.
Jerry Ferrara
Nah, those. All right, we're jumping in. Those are the easiest losses to recover from, right?
Matt Leinart
Getting blown out by 25.
Jerry Ferrara
It's over by halftime. Like pack it in. Wasn't our day. Let's just move on. We got 81 more games to figure this out. I'm not worried at all.
Matt Leinart
I cannot wait. I can't believe I'm saying this. I cannot wait to go on this roller coaster ride with you during the NBA season. Season.
Jerry Ferrara
It is a roller coaster, man.
Matt Leinart
I love, I love hoops. I love, I love hoops. I love sports. I love watching. And I was, I was, I think I tweeted out. It's like I'm finding myself on a 4:30 in the afternoon in LA. By the way, I, I texted you. I was like, my wife is out of town, my mother in law took the kids out. My dogs are somewhere. I'm laying in bed before I had to do something and I'm turning on a Knicks Celtics game. I sent you a photo. I'm like, what is my life now? This is going to be my life now for, for the next five Months, six months.
Jerry Ferrara
Now that you become friends with me, that is your life. But I will also say if I, if I'm able to get us to the Garden and say courtside, it'll mean that much more to you. Now that you did a little research and you've watched a little bit of Nick's action.
Matt Leinart
Dude, I'm f, I'm, by the way, I'm sitting courtside with you. I will fly out to New York for that. Are you kidding me? Msg. I, I, I, I went, I told you this. What? I took Cole to Knicks. It was a random game. I was in, I was in New York, I think, I think it's for the Heisman years and years ago.
Jerry Ferrara
Oh, that little thing. Oh, the little Heisman thing.
Matt Leinart
And I had. Yeah, it was for that. And I took Cole and we were sitting first row right behind the Knicks bench.
Jerry Ferrara
Yep.
Matt Leinart
I think it was, they had. Yeah, it was, it was awesome. It was really cool. I was talking to some of the trainers and the guys. I think it was like an SC guy there that was one of the trainers at the time. It was cool, man. I was first time ever in msg, so I was like, I'd love to go back.
Jerry Ferrara
Well, it's an amazing time of year. We got basketball. Everyone's got one game in. Obviously, we know the World Series starting off Friday. I know you, I believe in signs. And this show is still relatively new. But you being a Dodger fan and me being a Yankees fan, six or seven episodes into this podcast and they're meeting in the World Series, I feel like it's a good time. Respect to you, because today joining us, we have a New York Yankee from the last time they won the World Series in 09, Nick Swisher. Same birthday as me. Nick Swisher is going to be joining us later to preview a little World Series, talk about his awesome home run derby X that he does, which is like their version of Big three or seven on seven football. It's really cool project too. But if you know Swisher, meaning publicly, you know his personality, if you're a baseball fan, one of the best personalities of all time in baseball. So he's a, he's gonna be a great.
Matt Leinart
He, he, I, I worked with him at Fox because he was covering, covering baseball, Fox for the years. And we just hit it off and you know him and his, his love for life, baseball. Like, he's just hilarious. Great. He's a great dude. I'm so pumped. And it's, it's going to Be fun, man. It's going to be fun to listen and talk about Yankee. And by the way, first of all, I, I respect the Yankees. Grew up Yankee Dodger fan. But you know, it's like Yankees are Yankees, you Jeter. And I'm excited to hear Swish talk about some of those guys because he was a part of that epic team. So. So this one will have to get a little better. Something, you know. And, and like you said when we started this show, our worlds collided but didn't collide back in the day in the, in the 2000s when I was at SC and you were on Entourage. And now our squads, dude, are playing in their the first world. Like this is. I'm telling you, man, you're my brother from another mother, buddy. So starting game one.
Jerry Ferrara
Well, maybe you could help me out because this is now three weeks in a row that my. I got my Twitter fingers going and it's getting reactions and I swear to.
Matt Leinart
Everybody that's nobody's fault but your own.
Jerry Ferrara
But I'm not doing this on purpose. I am just asking questions or just putting out a point or a contrary point. So look, Bill Simmons last week. And look, I listen to Simmons basketball for me with Simmons, like, I just enjoy listening to him talk basketball. But, and look, he's a Red Sox guy. Hates the Yankees. I get it. Sports hate is fun too. To watch a team, to watch a World Series just hating on one team. I get it. But he started doing the whole commenting on. Oh well, the Yankees road, they beat the Guardians and they beat the Royals. Ho hum. I just think that's not a real thing. And you played and won a championship. Did anybody question the USC route and path to get there and try to demean what you accomplished? Because I just think that means you're not watching because nothing about the Guardians struck me as easy. Yeah, I'm sorry the Astros weren't there. They got smacked by the Tigers.
Matt Leinart
It's just a, it's lazy. I think you said, I think you said that it's lazy. Football's different. I think when I look back at our, our title run, like we, you know, we, we had a couple games where we could have lost against shitty teams and we found a way to win. But the year we won, oh four, we beat Oklahoma. Who was number two in the. So it was one versus two. So like we, we proved it. I look, I think you could, you could like the Celtics run last year. Like you could, you could pinpoint. Oh, what was it?
Jerry Ferrara
Thank you. About the Celtics run was It.
Matt Leinart
The war, the warriors, when they went on a run and they didn't have to play somebody like, like you. You run into teams if they're missing. Like, it just happens. It's sports. It's the laziest take in the world because it is so hard to, to reach the pinnacle of your sport, no matter what it is, whether it's a Super Bowl. Gosh, what we went to. We went to a Super bowl in 08 for the Cardinals. We were a wild card team.
Jerry Ferrara
We were, we were 8 and 8, right?
Matt Leinart
Yeah, we were 8 and 8. And like, and like, no one expected us win the first round. No one expected us win NFC championship. Stuff happens. Like, we were not the better team, but stuff happened. So the point is, is like, come on, dude. Come on. I, I agree. We agree on this take. We agree.
Jerry Ferrara
I like it. Well, because also I, I was at the stadium in Cleveland for Game 4, and I've been to a lot of games. I've been to a few Yankees, ALDS games, like versus Twins, stuff like that. And I've been to a Knicks playoff game. By far the most stressed out I've ever been sitting in a live sporting event. Was being the road fan in a playoff baseball game. The only time ever. Matt, I didn't get up to pee. I didn't drink water or beer. I didn't eat. I did not consume one. I was hoodie up, locked onto every moment during the commercial breaks. I actually took deep breath.
Matt Leinart
So you have a Yankees. You wear a Yankees hat or you wear black? I didn't.
Jerry Ferrara
I don't listen. I don't like going to the. Being the road fan, rocking all my stuff. I don't hate on people who do. But also, like, I just don't want to get trolled if someone happens to be an Entourage fan, see the Yankee hat and then start yelling turtle. And insulting my whole acting career. I just don't need it. Like, I could, I could still enjoy the game without rocking colors.
Matt Leinart
I swear, you give me so much stress listening to you talk about you watching sports. Like, I stress out listening to you. I'm talking about you at sporting events.
Jerry Ferrara
Well, this might stress you out even more because, you know, we have Barkley on two weeks ago. Everyone loved that interview, by the way. He's the best. And now he's back to work. And, you know, he said something in the interview two weeks ago, which I agreed within the time because I didn't fully give it thought. And I've thought about it for the last two weeks now. That we're one game into the NBA season. He basically said, you know, the NBA screwed up. They pissed off Brown and Tatum with, however, how all. Everything went down with the Olympics and all that. And maybe I'm just intentionally trying to take opposite takes. I'm really not trying to piss people off. But I get this opportunity to ask you questions who have been in some of these situations. Matt, do you put real credence to the fact that Brown getting left off the Olympic team and Jason Tatum struggling through the olympics and getting DNPs have somehow motivated this Celtics team to repeat in a more dominant way than they maybe would have had that not happened.
Matt Leinart
It's. It's so interesting because I'm trying to put myself in my football locker room. And again, it's. It's. It's different because in basketball, you got 80 games or 82 games, you got play. It's a long season. So, sure. In football, every game matters, right? In basketball, like you said, the Knicks losing, it doesn't matter, right? It doesn't matter. You're gonna. They're gonna be a good team. They're gonna be in the playoff. There is something about bulletin board material. There is something about having a little extra for a game in a football world, right? You're playing a team that might've been talking a ton of shit that week, and you're like, all right, hey, you know, you get to hit people. Yeah, you get to hit people. You're gonna give a little. You're gonna give a little week. But in basketball, to me, I'm just. I'm trying to figure this out, because in basketball, it's like, what are the. What? Like what. Maybe we'll see that in the playoff, but what are we going to see? Are they going to lift weights harder? Are they going to. Are they going to jump higher? Are they going to, like, play harder for 82 games? Like, again, I just think, like, I think in their mind, Tatum being benched for the whole Olympics was like an FU for sure. I can. I can only imagine how shitty that felt in that stage. Okay. Yeah, I'm going to my. I'm going to work on this part of my game. Brown obviously left off for other reasons and, you know, all that, but, like, I don't know, man. I just don't know. How, like, how do they, like, let me ask you, like, how did they get better? Like a chip on their shoulder for 82 games of a season?
Jerry Ferrara
Here's how I look at it. It's just so funny because I Looked.
Matt Leinart
At teams, I mean, they did go off. He did go off.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah, they smacked the Knicks. Did. Did Jason Tatum hit seven threes? Because he was pissed off. He had DMPs at the Olympic game. If anything, he's more rested. He didn't play.
Matt Leinart
I know.
Jerry Ferrara
So, but hear me out. Most NBA teams who are defending their title aren't necessarily run it back teams. Why? Like, why didn't the Nuggets repeat as champions? First of all, it's very hard to repeat no matter who you are.
Matt Leinart
Well, that's the thing. Yeah, it's almost.
Jerry Ferrara
But also they, you know, Jamal Murray had a rough playoffs. They didn't have Bruce Brown, they didn't have kcp. Their team was not different. Why didn't the warriors repeat? Well, they were ending a dynasty run. Their players got old and they still have to reboot. Why didn't Giannis and the Bucks win? Injuries. Injuries. So barring injuries, this is the exact same Celtics team. I know KP is coming back, but they're great without them. I think the Olympic stuff will lead to saltier celebrations. I think you could take a bigger victory lap if and when you win another championship or go win 65 games. But there was nothing even watching that Knicks game. So many people, Celtic fans on Twitter, like, you know, this is awesome. I'm so happy you played out. So Drew Holiday and Derrick White would be not nearly as motivated to win because of what happened. Jalen Brown wouldn't have put on a few extra pounds of muscle and worked on his game. And Tatum wouldn't fixed his jumper, which was not necessarily broken. He was just off for a little bit. I just, I don't know. I don't. It doesn't work for me. I think the Celtics are juggernauts and it was clear that the Knicks are nowhere near them just yet. There is anyone in the NBA is.
Matt Leinart
There is a much different mentality winning a championship and having everybody coming after you as a true, true. There's a different mentality. So for them, as you just said, I mean, just as you said, like, like it's hard to repeat. So like that it's like, does it give him extra motivation? These guys are, are grown men.
Jerry Ferrara
They're professionals in the peak of their careers.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, it's like again, like, as you said, maybe it's a little bigger flex in the playoff. Maybe, maybe it's. Maybe it's when they win another title in the post game celebration, they're going to stick their middle finger up to everybody like that. But like, bro, I mean, he's still lifting. He's still benching the same weight.
Jerry Ferrara
I just don't think it affects.
Matt Leinart
It doesn't.
Jerry Ferrara
The overall point is they will have some fun celebrations, flipping everybody off. I do not think it for one second affects any outcome of any game this year, but that might just be a dumb opinion, and I'm not an athlete, and what do I know? So that's it. That's all we got for basketball. Long road ahead. Matt. You're in for the ride with me. I appreciate it. Let's. Let's talk a little football before we bring Swisher. Swisher in. I mean, I can't even keep track anymore necessarily of what I am enjoying and not enjoying about football. The. The thing that stuck out to me over the weekend, you know, the desean Watson stuff, which, you know, it's so crazy now in slow motion with these cameras, you could literally see.
Matt Leinart
Well, first of all, shame on the Browns fans, man. That's bullshit. Yeah.
Jerry Ferrara
And I know a lot of people.
Matt Leinart
I don't. Yeah, sorry. Sorry to cut. No, I don't care. As an athlete, I don't care what you do on the field, off the field, baggage, whatever happens. But to. To essentially root for someone who gets hurt is bullshit. It's never bullshit. That's it.
Jerry Ferrara
And I know a lot of people went back and forth well, it's because he wasn't playing well or well. They never took. It doesn't matter. They. It happened. It's over. I don't know what happens from there for desean Watson, but I was just thinking now, all right, all the drama aside, now you're the Browns. I love Stefanski. I think Stefanski is a really great coach. What he did last year with the team was remarkable. I start to look though you're one in six. You got Nick Chubb back.
Matt Leinart
J Boo. J. Boo Getting the start, too.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah.
Matt Leinart
Hello, James.
Jerry Ferrara
But they have to draft the quarterback, Matt. It's the only way.
Matt Leinart
So what's that going to make, like, 35 starting quarterbacks since, what, like the 90s?
Jerry Ferrara
It's true. But you. You. You tried the trade option. That didn't work. You finally got your first round picks back and all that stuff. You are now positioned to potentially be a bottom three. You can't tank in football. It just doesn't work right. You can't put a bad offensive lineman in because someone might get killed. So I don't fully believe you can't.
Matt Leinart
Tank, but you can. You can be very, very, very vanilla in your game plan, right?
Jerry Ferrara
You could be vanilla, but you can't put in someone who you know is going to just get. Because players could really get bad.
Matt Leinart
Well, and also players are playing for a job. I mean, you can't go out there and play.
Nick Swisher
Battle.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, like, no.
Jerry Ferrara
But I can't see an incentive for the Browns to really as an organization, I'm sorry to the fans because you're one in six. You're tied up with the Patriots and the Panthers. The Patriots, if they happen to get the number one or two pick, are not taking a quarterback. The Panthers, if they happen to get one or two, I don't. Maybe they take a quarterback. All right. Barring any trade ups though, you could be potentially in position to get whatever quarterback you want in this draft. I think they have to take that option right now.
Matt Leinart
Well, and also this draft is. It's last. Last year's draft was great, right? Caleb, Jaden, Daniels, Drake May, Bo Nicks, JJ mc. I mean it was, it was, it was record breaking. Six guys in the first round. Penix. This year it's a little different. And again, we'll be talking about this during draft season because guys will fly up the boards, guys will kind of fly under the radar. But you got, you know, Shador Sanders, you got Cam Ward, you got, you don't have necessarily an alpha quarterback. You're like, sure fired. That's it. Really good players. Carson, Beck, Quinn, yours, you have a lot of guys there. But to, to take a quarterback one or two overall this year with the percentages of quarterbacks never really making it from the first round. It's interesting. Again, again, these are just things that we as we know, can set back an organization. So I'm with you, Browns. I don't look, they should have never got rid of Baker Mayfield.
Jerry Ferrara
Wow. That's the other thing that's the extra, that's the extra kick in the balls is that Baker Mayfield is playing off in Tampa. And that's the, that's the, the only other option besides drafting a quarterback is, hey, why don't you go try to revitalize someone's career? And that's exactly what happened with Baker. I'm going to say something you're probably going to hate. Browns fans are probably going to say, maybe they're going to turn this podcast off. I hope not. Do you even remotely consider trading Miles Garrett right now?
Matt Leinart
Yeah.
Jerry Ferrara
In the spirit of, hey, this is a full rebuild. We have the coach and it's the fans. He wants to stay and I, I think the coach is great. He's the most valuable asset on the team. He's gonna keep you in games probably. That's how Dan, by the way, he's.
Matt Leinart
Also gonna want to get out there in a year or two anyway, so.
Jerry Ferrara
Why could get a haul for football standards?
Matt Leinart
It's. It's kind of. It's kind of what we're potentially seeing with Max Crosby. And I know, like, like, if you're going to tank or you're going to, you know, rebuild, call it a rebuild. Rebuild. You're going to get a first round. I mean, whatever you're going to get from Miles Garrett and then, and then you start to stack your picks and you start to build. If you do believe in Stefanski and what they can do there. The problem is, again, we talked about this, man. Cleveland is. I mean, Cleveland just does that. It's not a winning culture. It's not a winning culture. You can point to a million different things. It's just, I mean, when was the last time the Cleveland Browns were relevant?
Jerry Ferrara
The last, the last year they had some flow.
Matt Leinart
They went to. They went to the playoffs with Baker a couple years back.
Jerry Ferrara
And then the Flacco renaissance last year. Six different quarterbacks. Stefanski won 11 games and. But they got wrecked by the Texans in the first round.
Matt Leinart
Yeah.
Jerry Ferrara
So, I mean, it's been bad ever since. Well, I have a heart for them because as a Nick fan, I know what it's like to not have your first round pick for a few years. I know what it's like to have a player that maybe, okay, that was a bad choice anyway. That was just what's on my mind. The Garrett thing. I was just thinking, how do you make the team better? That's your most valuable thing. And he's going to probably keep you in some games, maybe defensively, but to me, that's not the best. Not, not the thing that I really wanted to talk about with football.
Matt Leinart
Wait, one, by the way, one in six just sucks in the NFL. Dude, I've been there.
Jerry Ferrara
You're out.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, no, it just. Every day going to work is tough.
Jerry Ferrara
When you're got to go run. You got to go throw your body into people knowing that there's no reward.
Matt Leinart
At the end of like, what am I doing? You're basically, you're playing for a job and you're playing to have a job the following year.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah. Well, the other football thing that I just thought was. Brought up some questions that for me to ask you. We all saw the Rogers. Did he. Did he not eat a booger? Right. And Then he goes on, McAfee, great job breaking it down.
Matt Leinart
So good.
Jerry Ferrara
Rogers taking full ownership. Like, I could see where you might think that, but it led me to think, okay, Basketball players know they're on camera at all times. They cover their mouth to a point where they won't even talk to each other without their hand over their mouth because they don't want lip readers to read what they're saying. Football, you have a little more place to hide. There's way more players, there's way more going up, but there's also way more cameras, probably.
Matt Leinart
Well, you don't know where the cameras.
Jerry Ferrara
Are and you don't know where they are. So Rogers got caught there for a moment. Maybe he forgot that he's always on camera, probably for the whole game. What is going on? That sideline that you. Either the cameras capture and you hope they don't use, or you didn't even know the camera's captured. What is happening? Matt Leinert, you've been there. You've done it. Have you gotten caught before?
Matt Leinart
No, but. Well, one, I want to pose this question and we're going to put. Have you ever eaten a booger?
Jerry Ferrara
Not of memory. Can I say that when I was three years old, I didn't eat a booger? No, I can't see that. I can't.
Matt Leinart
I used to eat my boogers a lot when I was a kid. Okay, but.
Jerry Ferrara
And you remember this?
Matt Leinart
You remember for sure? For sure. Oh, dude, it's gross, bro. I know it's gross, but I mean, it's like. It's like asking someone, do you pee in the shower? And they say, no, I don't ever pee in the shower.
Jerry Ferrara
I'm like, I feel like that's different. I feel like peeing in the shower and eating a booker is two very different things.
Matt Leinart
Peeing in a pool, I'm like, My kids are like, My wife is like, no. I'm like, what are you talking about? Take a piss in the pool, dude. It's all good.
Jerry Ferrara
This just happened for us this weekend. There was a late pool, fall day that happened. My 5 year old gets out of the pool to pee.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, well, I never told him that.
Jerry Ferrara
He just does it. He just gets out.
Matt Leinart
My three year old will will get out of the pool to take a shit, right next, right on the little field turf. Because I'm like, we'll sit in the jacuzzi. And he's like, daddy, I got to go potty. I'm like, one or two. Because if it's one, I Say just go to. I got to go poop. All right, dude, just go right there. I'll pick it up like it's like it's a piece of dog shit. Okay. Anyway, to answer your question. So the. It's so funny. Okay, so it's different. It is different. The biggest thing on a sideline for football is if. Whether you have to go to the bathroom or not, right? That people always ask me, like, how do you not go to the bathroom for two hours again? You're drinking Gatorade or water or all sorts of stuff, whatever. And so two stories. One time at usc, I. You not. Dude, I pissed my pants on the sideline.
Jerry Ferrara
Almost got a spit take from.
Matt Leinart
Can't even. I'm not even making this up. I think it was 03. And I'm sitting there. I don't remember what game it was, but it was a home game. And I'm sitting there and we. We had. We had our yellow gold, you know, our yellow pants. And I'm sitting there and I wore like tube socks. You know, I didn't look great when I drew. I just wore like normal white tube socks you'd wear. And I'm sitting there and I'm like, dude, I had to pee. And like, we didn't. Like, I couldn't run up the tunnel. It was a long walk. And I'm. I'm telling my boys, I'm like, dude, I'm taking a piss right now. And they're like, what the fuck is wrong with you, dude? And all of a sudden. And the. And the football pants are tied around the knees, right?
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah, this was.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, this was like.
Jerry Ferrara
And jock struck cup on. No cup.
Matt Leinart
No, I wore tights. Like, tights.
Jerry Ferrara
Okay.
Matt Leinart
You don't wear a cup in football, dude.
Jerry Ferrara
I don't know. Well, you're asking the guy.
Matt Leinart
You wear a jock. A lot of guys wore just a jock. Or you can wear like little tight, like spandex, right? And all of a sudden you just get like, just dribbles going down my calf into my white sock. My sock was yellow. Okay, so that was one. And I was like. And I'll tell. That I'll never forget. I was like, that's pretty cool. So I saw. This has happened a lot, but I remember being in Houston and this is to your point about the camera. So, like, what. What happens is, is basically you have like the. The in the middle of the 50 yard line because one side is offense, one side is defense. Typically where you go to your benches and in the middle you have Your table of Gatorade, water, trash can. There's just like that little middle center right where you go and get all your stuff. That's where usually you go and take a pee. And so what happens is you get to a trainer and you go, hey, dude, I gotta take a piss. Can you cover me real quick? So they stand over you and they, you know, they put towels like this around you to the side. Okay.
Jerry Ferrara
Really?
Matt Leinart
For those listening, I'm holding like a book to the side. Yeah, they'll put towels around like you.
Jerry Ferrara
Were a kid, like a changing at the pool when you were a kid.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, they'll like, they'll like drape you because of cameras. They're all over, side to side, and you're on a knee. And the best part about.
Jerry Ferrara
Wait a second, I'm lost right now. Liner, you talk about you dropping your drawers and peeing.
Matt Leinart
No, no, I'm on my knees peen behind the, behind the Gatorade water table. That is about three feet high, Right. So you're sitting. It's almost like you're, you're, you're, you're going on your knees peeing behind a tree.
Jerry Ferrara
Okay.
Matt Leinart
But the only thing that the people can see are your eyes like this. Can you, like. So you imagine the table is like at eyesight.
Jerry Ferrara
So everyone knows you're pissing, though. You're just covered.
Matt Leinart
Oh, your teammates are like. Again, you're in the. Like, half the people don't even care. Because I would say 10 times a game, people are just, dude, I gotta take a piss real quick. And they just sit down, go. And then they run out for like, kickoff or something. But I always think it's funny because I'm sitting there and like. And usually eyes are on a quarterback, whether you're the starter, the backup, whatever.
Jerry Ferrara
Sure.
Matt Leinart
And I'm sitting there peeing. My eyes are, like, creeping out. Like, I'm sneaking. And I'm just looking like this, like 80,000 people. I'm just taking a piss into the grass. I'm wondering, is there a camera on me? I'm wondering if someone's going to point to me while I'm peeing. It's like the greatest 60 seconds ever, dude. It's hilarious. So that happens all the time, people.
Jerry Ferrara
Fascinating. No one. And I've never heard anyone talk.
Matt Leinart
Yeah.
Jerry Ferrara
Anyone talk about it.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, I mean, like baseball, you got a clubhouse, you go basketball, it's a lot.
Jerry Ferrara
You know, you're out for a few minutes too. With basketball, you know, you're out. Football, you could be Thrown in at any. Like, what happens if you went to up to go take a piss and there's an interception? And now he was like, oh, the backups in. We don't know if liner. So maybe something happened to liner.
Matt Leinart
You've had to do that sometimes if there's like, equipment, if you gotta go number two. Well, yeah. I mean, well, now. Now they have the blue tent, so now I'm assuming, like, when you have.
Jerry Ferrara
The porta potty, too.
Matt Leinart
Well, when we get a football dude on, we'll ask because. But it's mindball. Yeah. How many times guys pee on the sideline eating? Obviously, we've seen a lot of people eating on the sideline, dude. How about Baker just popping a Zen last week? Strong dirt, like, second quarter.
Jerry Ferrara
It's like, because he knows he's on camera. He knows that's going to be C me. I mean, he was trying to be.
Matt Leinart
But I. I will. I will say this. We. This goes without saying. We never. He's not doing that. Knowing he's on camera. That is. That is just. That is like him needing. Dude, I need a Zen. And.
Jerry Ferrara
But he could have faked the piss and got covered up and then popped the zin with the towels around them.
Matt Leinart
I mean, dude, we're going to get Baker on throwbacks because Baker's. He's fucking hilarious.
Jerry Ferrara
I feel like I played Halo online with Baker for one second and then really quick. So with the acting version of that.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, what is it?
Jerry Ferrara
Well, here's what sucks about it with acting. If you have to go during a take, you can go. And sometimes it's like a golf cart ride away or something. You can't be discreet because you go tell an ad, hey, like, I really got to go. They'll ask you to hold it. Can you wait? And most of the time you say yes. But when you can't, that's fine. But then everyone on the walkie, you know, every crew member has a walkie and earphone. So all you hear and they call it, you know, going, 10, 1, 10, 100. That's code for this guy's got to use the bathroom. But you hear every walk, you go, everyone, we're gonna need five. Jerry's going, 10, 1. Jerry's go in all in my mind, I think everyone's hearing. Jerry's going to take a. We'll be right back. Jerry's going to take a. We have to wait here. So you have 80 people. Different than 60,000 people, dude.
Matt Leinart
Sometimes. Sometimes on our show, because we get, you know, we get mic'd up. And our mics sometimes are hot. Like, sometime back in the. This was more. Back in the studio if you had to go to the bathroom. I'm in the bathroom peeing, and you can still hear people talking in your ear. Like, I'm pretty sure they can hear me taking a piss.
Jerry Ferrara
Oh, no.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, it's like one of those. So acting is a little different. I. I would imagine kind of similarly like, having a kiss on screen and, like, having bad breath. Like. Like just funny shit that happens. Like, has that happened to you? That. That would be my worst nightmare. Well, making out the hot girl and.
Jerry Ferrara
Like, you're like, yeah, all that stuff is. Is terrible in general. I don't know what anyone's opinion is on when you watch a love scene or kissing scene. From my experience, again, that's not in my skill set. I don't really get asked to do that often, which is good. I did have one. One actress say to me one time we had to have, like, a quick kissing scene and literally said, I'm so sorry. I had, like, a lot of onions at lunch. I apologize. I. Well, you knew we were doing this after lunch.
Matt Leinart
Is she saying. She's saying that so that she doesn't get embarrassed? So she already set the. She set the record.
Jerry Ferrara
Maybe. But, like, either way, if you. If you. You knew we were shooting this scene after lunch.
Matt Leinart
47 minutes before I go on, Altoids are.
Jerry Ferrara
Are flowing. Wow. All right. That's football, everybody. That's our. That's our thoughts on football. No, I guess. Last quick thing.
Matt Leinart
A lot of bathroom breaks on the sideline line, guys.
Jerry Ferrara
Last quick thing. Chiefs got themselves a wide receiver. Do you.
Matt Leinart
I mean, the rich get richer.
Jerry Ferrara
They kind of had to do it. But to me, that just solidifies a team that really didn't even need to solidify anything.
Matt Leinart
A team. A team. A team that understands well and also, too, like. And I love D Hop, man. Big D Hop fan, great dude. It's just a team, a culture that knows how to win, obviously, understands what they need and goes out and gets it. And it's also on the verse side of that. You have players that want to go be a part of greatness, and especially D Hop, who's like, you know, like the second half of his career. Yeah. Like, it's. And. But by the way, can still play like a number one receiver. He's just been hidden away in Tennessee the last two years, you know, so big get for the Chiefs. Mahomes. He'll fit right in.
Jerry Ferrara
I thought they were going to lose that Niners game. I thought if any game like the Niners have to have it. If the Chiefs could not. They'll never take a week off. But they don't necessarily have to. They have a stranglehold on the division.
Matt Leinart
But have you seen Mahomes? Like, this is the thing about them. This is why he's great. His numbers are awful. Like no. And I think he would tell you that by the. But it doesn't matter.
Jerry Ferrara
Like he's got like third in MVP odds.
Matt Leinart
I don't even know, like eight interceptions, like eight touchdowns. They're. But they're undefeated. And then when that dude, when the playoffs come, I mean this is just what they do. And that, that's, that's to me from a. For being in around teams and a perspective like that's what makes them great, man. Because they don't give a shit about all that other stuff.
Jerry Ferrara
His worst statistical season, I think he's still third best odds or second best.
Matt Leinart
Patty for Patty Mahomes beast.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah. Good luck, Hopkins. All right. But we are going to do what has become my favorite segment. Shout out to Wendy's. Because the doorbell rang the other day and you know, I'm still. I'm old enough now. And the doorbell rings. I'm still like, huh, who could that be? It was 1:00 in the afternoon. I open it and it was a Wendy's delivery. I had Tell me nugs delivered.
Matt Leinart
I'll say, tell me you got some.
Jerry Ferrara
Saucy, saucy nugs with. With a nice little soft drink. And also I was starving and I was. I happened to be saying what the hell am I going to eat for lunch? And it just showed up at my door. So shout out Wendy's for that. And now we're going to do our favorite segment. I kind of. And I love mine this week, but we're going to do our Wendy's. We can't get enough sauce. Our saucy moment of the week. I got one that I'm. I'm a big. You have yours.
Matt Leinart
Okay, I'll go first because you want to go first. I'll go first and quick because I want you. I want you to have the floor.
Jerry Ferrara
What was your can't get enough?
Matt Leinart
So my, my can't get enough was LeBron and Bronnie James this week.
Jerry Ferrara
Oh, okay.
Matt Leinart
And, and listen, I think that no matter which way you view this whole thing, right? Bronnie being on Lakers, whatever that moment. And, and before with the Griffeys being there, who Is my favorite baseball. Favorite baseball player growing up got. He got to play with Ken Griffey senior. And the. The mic'd up of LeBron saying, Are you ready? Like, gives me kind of goosebumps. And like, just imagine. And we talk about our kids all the time and the sports and what it's like to watch them grow up and play sports. But like to have your son play with you on the Los Angeles Lakers in an NBA game. What a cool moment, man. For sports, but also as a dad for LeBron. So that's my moment of the week.
Jerry Ferrara
Saucy. That's pretty saucy.
Matt Leinart
What a great moment. I did. I shed it. I shed a little tear. I got a little emotional. It was awesome moment. So really cool for the. The James family. All right.
Jerry Ferrara
Okay. Well, I don't know how you follow LeBron James and Bronnie James as your Wendy's, you know, saucy player of the week, but do you know who Jake Bates is? Have you heard this name before? You don't know Jake Bates? It's okay. You don't have to know Jake.
Matt Leinart
He's the kicker.
Jerry Ferrara
He is the kick. The rookie kicker on the Detroit Lions gave his post game interview saying, I thought my football career was done. I don't know if he said I was selling bricks or brakes. One of the two bricks. I don't know.
Matt Leinart
I watched it.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah, it was bricks. I thought maybe at one point he said brakes. Either way, dude is 10 for 10 on the year. He. I mean, he's 20 for 21 on extra points. He didn't miss one extra point. We'll forgive you. And then kicking a game winner. That game was awesome. Vikings, Lions, first game of the year. I actually said this feels like a playoff game. We may very well see these two teams in the playoffs. And you're on the Lions right now. You are going to be put in that situation a lot. Jake Bates, I'm rooting for you. Okay? We. You are. My Wendy's can't get enough of this player. This saucy moment of the week. That's mine. Shout outs. Jake Bates. Make some kicks, baby. I'm always anti kicker, but that story got me selling bricks. Go get yourself some sauce.
Matt Leinart
Great redemption story. That's a great throwbacks idea, too.
Jerry Ferrara
What best redemption stories.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, like going from like Kurt Warner bagging groceries to winning a Super Bowl.
Jerry Ferrara
Well, you're on the clock this week to pick your. Your throwback three.
Matt Leinart
Oh, I got it.
Jerry Ferrara
Should you say it now or do you want to hold?
Matt Leinart
No no, we'll wait. We'll wait. We'll wait for it.
Jerry Ferrara
All right.
Matt Leinart
Shout out to the James and Bates man. Saucy.
Jerry Ferrara
Yes. All right, we're going to bring on Nick Swisher and then we'll get to our throwback three. What if I told you there was a way for your favorite team to keep scoring points even during timeouts and commercial breaks? You'd probably be all over that, right? See terms@walmartplus.com we're just, we're, we're just rocking Right now, Jerry, we just going.
Jerry Ferrara
We. We are recording. We're. We already previewed Nick earlier. Not that we need to preview him much, but thank you for doing this, Nick. Number one, though. I was telling Matt, right. I just got to see you in the Bahamas a few weeks back at the Turn 2 Foundation.
Matt Leinart
Hold on, hold on, boys. Hold on real quick.
Jerry Ferrara
Oh, is Matt going to get his Heisman Trophy? Oh, no. Oh, he's putting a Dodger. Oh, he's putting a Dodgers. Really cool Dodgers warm up jacket on his chair. We don't recognize that, Nick. But I was telling people, like the coolest part of that trip for me was it was me, you, Kevin Connelly and Cece, and we just got to talk Yankees and we were like talking Soto and all this before the playoff run.
Nick Swisher
Oh, yes.
Jerry Ferrara
I mean, that guy's just etching himself into one of the greatest, like one year seasons for the Yankees, right?
Nick Swisher
Yeah. I mean, if you think about it, I mean, when, you know, when everything happened this off season, this past off season, when Juan came over to the Bronx and you lost somebody like a Michael King, who is just absolutely over there in San Diego doing his thing, and just the names that you gave up to get Juan Soto and the price tag of $30 million, you never know what's going to happen in those rental seasons. But the fact that this cat is 25 years old and he has the presence, I mean, come on, fellas, we've been around athletes our whole lives. We've seen athletes at the top of their game. And the fact that this kid is. He's a kid, he's 25 years old and commands the respect of everybody. It's been absolutely amazing to watch him go about his work. He has done nothing but take the New York Yankees from a championship caliber organization even to a more championship caliber organization. The things he's done for the players, not only in the big leagues, but even in the minor leagues. Now all of a sudden you have somebody a little different to look up to instead of Aaron Judge. So nobody's going to have Aaron Judge sort of power. So the next thing you know, you get, Juan comes in and all of a sudden he's got a little different work ethic. The way that he works in the batting cage is a little different than what Aaron does. So now all of a sudden you're bringing a contact player plus power over to really, really kind of propel those young players into the players they could be. So for him, Judge, Big G is doing his thing right now, man. It's just been a lot of fun to watch, and I'm really, really excited. Fellas. We've been waiting for this sort of matchup for.
Matt Leinart
Hell yeah.
Nick Swisher
East coast, west coast. Let's go, mvp. Let's do this, baby. Let's square them up. Two heavyweight fighters, baby, going at it. I can't wait, man.
Matt Leinart
I can't wait, actually. I mean, I'm a. I'm a. I got my Dodgers hat on. I'm a lifelong Dodger fan. You guys know this. And I'm. I'm. It's two versus one, but it's okay. Swift, you're like my favorite dude in the world. I love you, but. So, I mean, look, Soto, Giancarlo Judge, and then Ohtani Betts. I think Freddie Freeman is probably going to be. I mean, it's. It's stars and stars and stars for the game of baseball. And this is what everybody wanted. I. It just. Just like, like it doesn't get any better than this, what we're about to witness on the biggest stage.
Nick Swisher
Yeah, it really doesn't. And I think, you know, you hear a lot of things from two types of fans. You hear about the fans saying, oh, these are the evil empires. These are the most expensive teams. They should be playing in the World Series. And maybe you're right. I mean, the ROI on $300 million teams. But if you think about it, we haven't had a matchup like this in. I can't remember the last time. Two number one seeds, both from the American League and the National League. I mean, I'd like to look back at this series about 10 years from now and to see how many players have the opportunity to end up in the hall of Fame from these two teams. If you think about it, absolutely fantastic. So I think just in general, man, I can't wait, Maddie. I'm going to be out there in LA on Friday, the stadium. Check it all out, feel the vibes there. I was able to be there in the Bronx for the ALCs and the atmosphere was absolutely electric, man.
Matt Leinart
You know, Chavez is going to be cranking Friday night. There's actually a small chance that Jerry and I will be at game five in New York. Assuming there's a game five. I can't imagine getting swept in this, but yeah, exactly. In the Bronx, Game five. I've never been to New York Stadium, but Chavez, Chavez this weekend with all the LA sports, but, you know, the fans can be rolling in a little late, the 405 traffic down there, but it's going to be Pumping. It's going to be pumping, dude. Let's go.
Nick Swisher
Absolutely electric. I mean the team kind of, the team flies out today. So everybody's going to go out, get a great workout in tomorrow and then obviously Friday night, baby, 8:08 Eastern Standard Time. 505 West coast, baby.
Matt Leinart
I feel, I feel like we should suit you up and you just get. I get one more at bat for the swish.
Jerry Ferrara
Swisher foot. Could for sure right now get us a single or draw a walk if we needed them to. I guarantee it. The eye don't change, right? Like, you know what they say with basketball, like maybe you can't dribble as much, but if you could shoot, you could always shoot. What's the baseball equivalent? I feel like just pitch selection or just knowing how to hit a gapper. That don't change.
Nick Swisher
Yeah, but fellas, you got to remember, man, when I played a decade ago, baby, most fastballs were like 92, 94. You know what I mean? Now times have changed a little bit. I mean it just seems like the athlete nowadays and you know, I mean, I'm sure you guys see it in your respected sports for sure. I mean, you know, Maddie, just with what's happening in football and Jerry, bro, just with everything, bro, from basketball to the whole nine, you've seen it all. These athletes nowadays, bro, are freaks. These dudes are just absolutely, just avatars running around. Absolutely amazing to see because I mean, I spend my whole day in the locker room like this. Hey, what's up boys? How you guys doing? Yo, what's up G. Aaron, how you doing, man? You know, like I'm not looking anybody in the eye anymore, bro.
Matt Leinart
Dude. Well, those dudes are monsters. I mean Judge and John Carlo is. I, I've always actually wondered this because we always talk about a football like the toughest position in sports and, and Jerry Hairston. Did you play with Jerry?
Nick Swisher
Yes, I did. He was part of that, oh, nine World Series.
Matt Leinart
That's right. So Jerry, Jerry's my boy. We talk about this a lot. Like the hardest thing to do. And I always say I play baseball. I was like, I think I could probably hit. I think I could put in play a 90 mile an hour fastball if I knew it was coming. I think I could, I think I could time it and put it in play. But now to hit 100, 101 consistently with a dirty slider and all this is it, is it the hardest as an athlete? Is it the hardest thing in sports is to hit a major league pitcher and In a bat.
Nick Swisher
Yeah. You know, it's hard. It's got to be. Because, you know, in a lot of other sports, you. You have the opportunity to do those things. I mean, everyone talks about how hard golf is. I mean, Jerry, we know how hard golf is, right? It's true. But we have the same opportunity as pros to do the same thing, right?
Jerry Ferrara
True.
Nick Swisher
In baseball, there's not the equivalent to understand, like, how really quick it really is. You know, I mean, you can Talk about the 0.4 seconds from the time it leaves his hand till it hits the catcher's mitt that you have 0.12 seconds to decide what you're going to get and then if you're going to swing or not. So it's just. I mean, I think statistically, I think scientifically, it feel like it has to be. Listen, bro, I've never been in the pocket on a zero blitz, bro, trying to read a defense either, so I don't understand how hard that is. But I think just in general, obviously, I'm a little biased. You've seen so many different athletes come out and try this. I mean, Michael Jordan is one probably one of the greatest athletes we've ever seen, and it took him a little bit of time to pick it up. Now, I'm not saying Mike couldn't play in the big leagues if he wouldn't have started off at an earlier age. But listen, man, I think sports nowadays are so. I mean, I look at the basketball scene, I see Wimby out there. I'm like, how the hell am I going to get a shot over this guy? How the hell am I going to be able to do that? So I think baseball's definitely up there. I think returning to serve and tennis would probably be up there as well. Anything quick twitch like that, for sure. No doubt.
Jerry Ferrara
All right, let's. Let's just get into this right now. And Matt, you jump into. I don't want to make this just like Yankees only. I know it's 2v1, but the Yankees will win the World Series if. Dot, dot, dot, happens. Like what needs to happen for this team to actually beat this amazing Dodgers team.
Nick Swisher
Starting pitchers give us. Starting pitching gives length. Right. If you look at both starting pitchers, I think you'll probably hear a lot of guys talk about it. You know, Poppy, a rod, you know, G. They'll all be talking about this. The starting pitchers. You know, you look at the Los Angeles Dodgers and they're rolling two and a half starting pitchers out there. If you think about it.
Matt Leinart
That's crazy.
Nick Swisher
You got Flaherty going, you got Yamamoto, and then you got Walker Bueller, who's just coming off of TJ the second one. So, you know, if you look at the Yankees, you know, with. With where they are starting pitcher wise, they've got four quality starters that you're able to roll out, as well as Nasty Nester and Marcus Strowman that can come out of the bullpen and give you a couple innings. So I think that's one of the things I noticed, at least in the alcs was the, you know, the bullpens got taxed a little bit.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah.
Nick Swisher
And when you're throwing, you're covering three, four, five innings a game. I mean, that has a tendency to tax on you, especially after 162 game season as well as spring training. So, you know, it just kind of seems like right now the bullpens are rested up. But if you go game one and you only get two innings out of your starters and they got a cover seven, you know, obviously, bro, with days, there's only two off days throughout this whole series, after game two and then after game five, so there's not a whole lot of time to rest up. So I think for me, that would be my biggest thing. I don't think it's going to be. I think it's going to be really hard to stop both of these offenses. I think the offenses are absolutely fantastic. I can't remember the last playoff series that I've seen where there's been 8, 10 runs put up on a regular. And that's exactly what the Dodgers are doing. So, I mean, with everything that happened in the. In the Yankee series against the Guardians, the Guardians gave the Yankees everything they could want, bro, and pulled out some great games. And I think we were all blessed and lucky enough to watch those games and just there for a span of 72 hours, bro, baseball was like the greatest thing going that we had. So it's just.
Jerry Ferrara
I was there. I was there after the big. The game, after the big Noel home run. So that stadium was hyper. I will say there was a difference with at least in the section I was in. Obviously they were. Anytime they pitched a Stanton, the fans were like screaming, why? But when Soto came up, you could hear a pin drop because everyone was terrified.
Matt Leinart
Yeah.
Jerry Ferrara
Was more than I. I say the batter that scared the Guardians fans the most, even as great as Stanton was, was in fact Soto for sure. And you know, we talked about the ROI on like, you know, the Yankees payroll and a lot of the talk of the pay. Like, I know a lot of Guardians fans today in Cleveland are talking about, oh, our payroll and all that, but look, it's like a business model. They made the ALCS with the third lowest payroll. So it's hard to argue. It doesn't work. I mean, that is not something. But I was like, that's not something. Any player during a playoff series say, hey, you know, if we just had. If he just spent a little more money and we had our own guy. Like, you guys aren't thinking about that, so why should the fans be yelling about that?
Nick Swisher
Yeah, no, I mean, listen, you know, I mean, if you look at the three out of the four teams that were playing in the championship series, three out of the four were the highest paid teams in baseball, right? Mets, the Dodgers and the Yankees. So it's not always like that, you know. You know, like we were talking earlier, the two evil empires, the most expensive teams. I can't remember the last time the two most expensive teams were playing and suiting up.
Jerry Ferrara
That's my point.
Nick Swisher
Right. It just doesn't happen that often, you know? But going back to that Cleveland series that you were talking about, that at bat for Juan Soto, Joe and I, my wife, you know, you guys know, we were both watching the game just, like, so intently, bro, and Juan's up, bro, and he's taking them pitches, bro, and he's giving you the soda shuffle. And he's nodding his head, you know, and he's like, oh, yeah, I'm on it, I'm on it. And Joe and I are watching the at, and I'm looking at her and she's looking at me, and she's like, nick, he's on it. He's on it. He's on him. And I'm like, well, how do you know that? She's like, baby, I've been watching you play, like, forever. Like, I can tell when you're.
Jerry Ferrara
She studies people. She's an actor. She studies people.
Nick Swisher
I can tell you when somebody's on and when somebody's off, bro. And the best part about that at bat was every pitch that he was fouling off was a putaway pitch.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah.
Nick Swisher
It wasn't like just, you know, like a measly wrinkle. Get me over. Oh, bro, these were nasty, dirty sinkers. Change up slide pieces, like, moving like this. And, bro, when he clipped on that fastball, because, you know, that's what he was waiting for. And the one thing that I really, really appreciate about Juan Soto is if you're watching him, when he gets into it, bats, where he doesn't necessarily feel comfortable, you see him choke up on his bat a little bit more. And there's something to be said about that for young players out there everywhere, that if Juan Soto can choke up on a bat, you can choke up on a bat.
Jerry Ferrara
Hell, yeah.
Nick Swisher
I just think it's one of those things, bro. And he got that heater. And let's be honest, it wasn't. Wasn't a bad fastball. It was a fastball up and away at 95 with good ride and the whole nine. And for some reason, and some. I don't even know how it happened, he got on top of that fastball and was somehow. Has somehow able to draw it out there to right center, bro, and to leave the ballpark. And the best part about that was, is just like every baseball player's ever wanted to do, stop right in front of his dugout, flex in front of the whole team, dude, you know what I mean? And then go about your way around the bases. So he's just been an absolute, just a joy to have over in the Bronx for this year. Obviously, I pray to God that he's going to be a New York Yankee for the rest of his career. Who knows? But at the end of the day, man, being able to watch him work in person has been a joy to watch for sure.
Matt Leinart
Some of the greatest, like, sports flexes that I love as an athlete, like, like touchdown celebrations are kind of whatever. When Tiger woods in his prime would do the fist bump and just get the whole, like, it gives me chills now. And honestly, being a baseball player growing up, the bat flip and just staring down your dugout, the Flex while 80,000 and running around the bases, it's literally. I got goosebumps right now. It's literally has to be the greatest feeling on the planet, dude. The planet.
Nick Swisher
Oh, yeah, there's no doubt. And nowadays, bro, with the way that athletes can pimp home runs, bro, I was gonna catch one in the ear my next at bat. So you weren't able to do that.
Matt Leinart
Dude, you pimped the home run. You pimped out.
Nick Swisher
Yeah, for sure. I mean, the guy behind me didn't like it, but I mean, bro, come on. Could you imagine just being a situation like that where just emotions are so high and everything is just running through you like you've never had before? So, I mean, listen, I think that, you know, as impressive as that bat that Juan Soto has, that home run that Judge hit off Class A99 cutter down in a way, yeah. I mean, it's just amazing just what these athletes are able to do today. So for me, I'm obviously in such awe and obviously just being able to be there and enjoy it up close and personal has been awesome as well.
Jerry Ferrara
So I. I'm sure you never thought that you'd be sitting here 15 years, whatever, later, and the Yankees still haven't won a championship since your last one in 09. But I'm going to go back to 09 for a second. What are some of your. Besides winning the World Series, the actual games, what sticks out in your mind throughout that series? That was a great series. There's a lot of interesting records. Like Utley tied the most home runs in the World Series. Matsui tied the single RBI game. Ryan Howard tied the most strikeouts in the World Series. I love Ryan Howard and a couple other. And then Mariano got like this. So what do you recall besides just winning the damn World Series from 09?
Nick Swisher
Yeah, I think, just in general, I think leadership was the first thing that comes to mind. You got to remember I was able to play with some stud players early in my career with guys like Eric Chavez and Jason Kendall and Mark Kotze. And then I got to go to Chicago and I got to play with Jim Tomy and Paul Kinerko and Jermaine Dye. And then I get to come to New York and you reach the ultimate pinnacle of players with Derek Jeter and Mariana Rivera and Andy Pettit and A Rod and Jorge Posada and Robbie Cano. I mean, the list goes on and on. It was just kind of one of those years where it just felt like everything was supposed to happen that way. And, you know, I've been on teams before when we've been in good situations and we feel like we're going to be successful, but we just didn't have that confidence in who we were to put ourselves over the top. And I remember in 2006 I played in the ALCS with the Oakland A's, and Frank Thomas was our big leader that year, and we just didn't have enough firepower to get past the Tigers that year. But I just remember being in the ALCs matching up against the Anaheim Angels, who we didn't necessarily always play well against them.
Jerry Ferrara
No, no.
Nick Swisher
Look across the locker room and you see Derek and you see Rod and you see Posada and you see Mo and Petty just walking around like it's another game and just like, hey, fellas, let's just do our job. We got this. Don't worry about it. We're right where we need to be. Because you knew that somebody out of that group was going to step up and be the hero. And that was kind of one of those things for myself. Just looking around that room, being like, there's no way we can't win. Like, we, it's, it's not that we're gonna win. It's, there's no way we're not going to win. You know, it just kind of seemed like that was one of those amazing things. And I do think there was a lot of Yankee ghosts that came over from the old stadium into the new.
Jerry Ferrara
First year of the new one.
Nick Swisher
Yeah, obviously, bro. And you know, the first year that the old Yankee Stadium was built, the Yankees won the World Series that year too. So there's something to be said about that. I tell how all the time I'm like, how just we need to build a couple billion dollar stadiums every couple of years. I will be good to go. You know, Swish.
Matt Leinart
How you're, I mean, gosh, you met, you mentioned those names and I'm getting flashbacks. And I was never an Angels fan, obviously, but you're, you're, your personality is infectious, to say the least. And you, you know, I've gotten to know a Rod and Jeter. Those guys are very different. Quiet, kind of lead by example. How, like, how does, how do you fit into a team like that? Because you were a hell of a player, but you're like, I've been in locker rooms, we've been in locker rooms. There's different types of personalities and sometimes it's hard to mesh all of that. How are you able to fit in with those types of guys, given the personality and the contagious personality that you have?
Nick Swisher
Two things. Number one, respect. As off the wall as I am, I am a very respectful human being. I just am. It's, it's the way I was raised. If my grandma came back down here and saw me doing any other way, I don't think she would have it. And number two, all I wanted to do was win. And that's all those guys wanted to do as well. And when you get a group of individuals, we, hey, bro, come on, man. You've been on, you've been on championship caliber winning teams. Like when you get a group of individuals together that have all the same thought processes moving forward as a unit, bro, it's so impressive. And that starts from the top down. The locker room was, was, was owned by Derek Jeter. He was the guy. And we took his lead. And so for myself, as. As much as I could be all over the place, all he had to do was give me a look. And I knew exactly what that meant. And so it's just kind of one of those things where, you know, I've always kind of had this personality, and I've always had to try and tone it down for people. But for Derek and the New York Yankees, he didn't want me to tone it down down. He wanted me to be me. And that was one of the more power. Powerful things that I think anyone has ever given me was the ability to be myself. And that's why I think I thrived as well as I did in New York, because I had people in my corner, like the Captain, to help me get through those times. And even though I was a little rambunctious, he knew when to tone me down and then when to let me go. And so I could not be more thankful for those guys because, listen, you know how it is. He could have told me, hey, tone it down. We don't do that here. That's not what we want. But he knew that that was going to take away from what I was able to do on the field. And that's why he was as great of a leader as he was, because he knew how to leader and mentor everybody for who they were. So I was just so blessed to be able to roll up in there. Now I've got five big brothers, bro, that I never had, who have taught me so much about not only being an athlete, but about being a man and a great human being. And I could not be more blessed to have those human. Those guys in my life.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, anyone telling you to tone it down can kick rocks, dude.
Jerry Ferrara
I want to shout out to you guys, though, because I remember we had this whole storyline on Entourage where we shot. We ended up shooting at Yankee Stadium. Yeah, a Rod and Teixeira. Right? But that storyline was thought of a year before. And when we reached out, I might even still have an email from Teixeira. A Rod and Teixeira themselves sent back. Word, we ain't cameoing on Entourage until we win a ring. So shout outs to the new guys, because they didn't do that. It did not happen till after 09. It still took some time after that, but we got to shoot at Yankee Stadium. It was only because of that 09 championship. That's why it's one of my favorite Yankee championships, because that led to us getting a Rod and Teixeira on the show.
Nick Swisher
How great was Tex in that episode. He was fantastic, bro.
Jerry Ferrara
He was great. He was absolutely great. So I always have a soft spot for that. For that. 0, 19. Are we killing you right now, Liner? Are we absolutely. Like, get off.
Matt Leinart
Get some Dodgers, by the way. By the way. And the. The crappy thing is, is we won a World Series during the COVID year, and everyone wants to say, oh, it didn't happen. It was like, it couldn't even go to a game. It has, by the way. I have been a lot like you guys because I have been completely disappointed in my Dodgers ever. We win the NL west, we win that, we have the bet. We have the best record in the end, and we can't, by the way, swish. That Padres series scared the out of me because we. Because I think we all could agree, like, the Padres could easily win the World Series with that talent and that team. I'll tell you what, man. I was like, game five. I was like, dude, we're gonna. And I. You know, I'm. I'm. I'm like. I'm like, Jerry, you know, I'm learning. I learned a lot about Jerry as a. As a Knicks fan. They're losing this week. They get their ass kicked by the Celtics, and the group chat is going off, and it's like, we suck. And they shoot this and all this, and I'm like, dude, it's one game. But that's how I am with the Dodgers in the playoffs. So I'm. I'm going into. Listen, I'm going into this series. I respect the Yankees. You know, Stanton's in la, kid. We got. We got guys out there that are from the west Coast. I love the Yankees, but you know what time it is, baby. By the way, who. I should know this. Who are we throwing? Game one? Are we throwing Flaherty? Because Flaherty got rocked his last time, I think.
Nick Swisher
Yeah. Yeah. Jay Flair and Garrett Cole, Game one.
Matt Leinart
Yeah. Garrett Cole, UCLA guy.
Nick Swisher
Yes, sir. Oh, by the way, man, you got Jack Flaherty, Harvard, Westlake kid, if I'm not mistaken. I think he's from out there, too.
Matt Leinart
Can we. Can we talk about something real quick? Jerry and I were talking about this before. We've all thrown a first pitch. We've been lucky to throw a first pitch.
Jerry Ferrara
I don't know how I got to throw one. That's just not.
Matt Leinart
Dude, you threw. Listen, okay, I know you weren't a pitcher, but you're an athlete. I thought your first pitch, like, just. Just this week or last week. Great moment, by the way. Super cool for you, I'm sure. I want to hear just what that moment was like, but you threw like a change up, dude. I thought you were going to throw a heater, bro.
Jerry Ferrara
That's your opportunity on a thick jacket.
Matt Leinart
Listen, you did it. You didn't fit.
Jerry Ferrara
You.
Matt Leinart
You didn't 50 cent it by any means, but you just threw a little.
Jerry Ferrara
Casual like, Come on, 50 Cent. Hey, dump.
Nick Swisher
All I'm thinking about is Derek Jeter sitting on my shoulder, bro. It just don't bounce it, whatever you do.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, that's the one thing. Yeah.
Nick Swisher
You know, and just for me, man. I mean, come on. I mean it just. Look, how blessed am I, bro? I'm just. I'm a nobody from a little small in West Virginia, bro. That like worked my way up. Now all of a sudden, I'm throwing out a first pitch in the ALCS for the New York Yankees. Talk about just like my whole world is just has been made and just being able to. The fact that I'm part of this organization and the fact that I'm so blessed to be one of the fortunate ones that has the greatest logo in the world tattooed across my chest and being able to be part of that, man, I mean, listen, I think you guys knew that's how I was as a player. I mean, my relationship with the fans is on another level. So the fact that I'm so blessed to be able to have that relationship with them and to continue to keep growing that relationship moving forward. Listen, boys, I'm not quite sure what I've got in store in my future here, but I think it's got to be something with the New York Yankees moving forward, boys.
Jerry Ferrara
So I, I made a prediction. I won't say it on the show for you. You and I know what it is, by the way.
Matt Leinart
That would be awesome.
Jerry Ferrara
Keep that off the air. But here's why I love Nick too, because everything he just said, and I don't know if you're gonna remember this, Nick, do you remember the first time we ever met? If you don't, it's cool. I get it. I remember it because it was way more special for me.
Matt Leinart
Jerry was wearing your jerk. Jerry was wearing.
Jerry Ferrara
That's not. No, I was not wearing your jersey. But anyway, here's how we first met and I'm, I'm. I'm bringing this up because you said this exact thing to me. This is in 09, because you just had gotten to the Yankees. So you just started dating your now wife. Yeah, I was dating one of her good Friends who's also an actress.
Nick Swisher
Right?
Jerry Ferrara
We went to a game.
Nick Swisher
Yes.
Jerry Ferrara
We went to a Yankees game. And then afterward, Joanna invited, like, hey, come down to where I'm gonna go see Nick where they get out. Come down. So we go down there and, you know, you guys come out and I meet you for the first time and meet some other Yankees. And then we all ended up going back to your place. So I got to hop and swish yourself car with the players part, and I got to take that drive out of Yankee Stadium, but from a much different point of view, right? And I. My mind going, oh, my God, this dude gets to do this 81 time. This is the coolest ever. And on the way we got back to his place, he said that he looked at me and we just talking. He's like, jerry, look at. He's like, I'm just some, like, guy from where. Like, I cannot believe I'm playing for the Yankees. I'm dating her. Like, look at us. And then we found out we have the same damn birthday, too. Yep, bro.
Nick Swisher
I mean, you. You were able to be with us on that sort of journey, which was amazing. So, I mean, bro, it just goes to show you, like, if you treat people well and you give people everything you've got each and every day, and they, you know, they sort of expect that. I mean, bro, we have, like, we had, like, our personal own, like, policeman with, like, you know, like, we were driving down the wrong side of the street.
Matt Leinart
Police escorts are the thing in sports for sure.
Jerry Ferrara
That's the only way out of Yankee Stadium that I've seen. That is the coolest way. Listen, we can't. Before we let you go though, something else we talked about in the Bahamas, which I have then gotten to watch, is everything you're doing with Home Run Derby X and all that. So, like, we set the table a little bit earlier with the audience in the intro. Right. First, I want to know, how did the Home Run Derby come to you? Like, where did you come in? Because I know. I know you're heavily. You're in now. This is your thing.
Nick Swisher
Yeah, this is a thing. You know, And I feel like we've just been so blessed to be able to kind of provide a different kind of game for our baseball fans. I mean, listen, it's almost like the, you know, the seven on seven version of football. Right?
Jerry Ferrara
Exactly.
Nick Swisher
10 T20 and cricket. Right. Or the big three in basketball. And the one thing that I think we've done a great job of is we've taken that to the next level. Not only is it a different sort of viewing for our fans, but now it's co ed and that makes it the absolute best. But we've got some of the most badass softball baseball female players that you could actually. You could ever even want to see. And so I think for myself, just the fact that we're able to do that. Listen, I mean, I'm a girl, dad. Fellas. So my daughters, they don't want to see me hit, bro. They want to see Jocelyn Aloe hit and they want to see she rakes Alex Hugo and they just want to see Ashton Lansdale and. And we've got all these amazing females that I have to. I've. I've been blessed to develop a relationship with. And now I'm just like, wow, being able to see it from both sides. My daughter started playing softball this year not because of me, but because of her idol she has now and how amazing these girls have treated her people like Jesse Warren and just. They've just been so amazing to my daughter. Now all these female players are starting to get their own line of shoes and gloves, and now all of a sudden, they're starting to come our way. And it's just one of those things where I'm so blessed to be able to part of that Home run derby. X is a 3 on 3 co ed home run derby, offense and defense. It's absolutely amazing. We've been so blessed. We had four events last year, sold out everywhere we've been next year. I give you guys a little bit of insight this year.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah, Come on, give us a little break.
Nick Swisher
A little next year, y'all. Seven events in 2025. We're really, really excited. Major league baseball has been just the best partner you would ever want to be, you would ever want to have when it comes to these sort of things. So for us, I feel like we're doing an amazing job. Our leaders with Kellum Salter and Charlie Hill have absolutely been rock stars. And they brought in myself and Johnny Gomes. So it's a little bit. A little bit of WWE and a little bit derby, which is absolutely amazing. And, you know, listen, we're going to continue to keep pushing this thing forward. We're going to do our best to try to get it out and get the brand out as much as we can, but I'm definitely going to be pumping it a little more. I appreciate y'all bringing it up, man.
Jerry Ferrara
Dude, I think it's amazing. I really do. I want to take Matt. We should really, number One, we should take our kids to one of the seven events, and then, I don't know, maybe do we throw a bat in Liner's hand? Doesn't have to count. Maybe like an exhibition, he thinks rank him still.
Matt Leinart
Two. Two things really quick. First of all, just, we're. We're seeing, you know, women's flag football grow, and I think what you're now doing for softball, just creating that exposure is awesome. And the fact that your girls are fun, that's awesome, man. So, so congrats to you. But I am reading this real quick. So the teams are comprised of a legend, a softball player, a player from that region's local development system, and then an influential content creator, which is a wild card.
Jerry Ferrara
Matt Liner, folks.
Matt Leinart
I mean, you're looking at two content creators right here.
Nick Swisher
I agree.
Jerry Ferrara
I see it.
Matt Leinart
Do we have an event coming to la?
Jerry Ferrara
I'm not. No, no, no. I'm not playing. No way.
Matt Leinart
Let me ask you this question. Swish are the fences. How. How far are the fences?
Nick Swisher
So we. We. We shrink the field, right? Because you got to remember, dude, not everybody's going to be able to hit a baseball 400 plus feet, right? So what we do is we. We strategically place our field towards where most of the outfield stands are, right? So we use that as our home run kind of. We call our home run alley our home run porch. And then from there, there's a field goal in the middle of all of that. And if you hit it through those field goals, you get double points. So what's great about that is that not only do you. Are you hitting, which is amazing, but then you get to play defense as well. And that's what's great because that's cool.
Jerry Ferrara
Rob some home runs. I saw you get the feet down. And Rob, great clip.
Nick Swisher
Is pro, baby. Say college.
Matt Leinart
Two feet in, you know, hey, what. What is. What is? You mentioned your girls real quick. I know we're running out of time. What is. Is. What is Nick Swisher like as a girl dad whose girls play sports? They're already laughing. What? I want to know.
Nick Swisher
He's getting better. He's getting better.
Jerry Ferrara
Okay, good. It's process. It's a process.
Nick Swisher
So you got to remember, fellas, like, you know, up until now, my oldest daughter, Emmy, she's 11, and my youngest sailor, she's 8, we've been doing a lot of individual sports up until this year. So I haven't been exposed to the sports as I have this year. Right. Which has been at the end of the day, Amazing. But I'm not gonna lie. We had our evaluations, right? There are player evaluation, not tryouts anymore.
Matt Leinart
Oh, yeah, it's wild.
Nick Swisher
And there were 82 girls, and my daughter was like 75 out of like 82 girls. So she had to stand in line and just like, you know, it took forever to get through the evaluations. And bro, meanwhile, dog, I got my hood over, I got my hat on, my shades on. I'm just like, I'm full, like, bowed up on the right. Keeping it. All these coaches, you know, I want to see what's going down. And the best part of this dude is my best friend Kate, she calls me and she's like, hey, how was it? And I was like, hey, you know, it was. I'm a little stressed out. She's like, nick, I need to give you a little piece of advice. And I was like, what's that? And she was like, this will be a great experience for Emmy playing softball if you don't it up. She could not be more right. I have. Listen, I showed up for the first game unprepared, fellas. I mean that. You got. You got to buy the chairs.
Jerry Ferrara
Oh, yeah, you have to have a chair.
Nick Swisher
Like, you gotta buy all that stuff, bro. I didn't. I nothing about that stuff. But I can promise you this. I'm six games in now, gentlemen. Wait till you got to see my setup. Babe, you want to play with me? I got y'all boys. I got you.
Matt Leinart
Since we're probably like, oh, God, that's.
Nick Swisher
Exactly what she's doing. She's like, nick, do I have to sit by you during this game?
Jerry Ferrara
Since we're. We're dadding out right now, I do need this. You. I can't think of two better people to help me with this situation. So my three and a half year old son who loves T ball, he's in T ball, right? He has done everything lefty so far. Like, he just naturally likes to swing, whether it's golf clubs. So I'm buying them lefty golf clubs. Bought him a lefty glove. Doesn't. But just the other day, picks up a ball with the right hand and throws me an absolute dart bullet on a string. So I'm like, hey, wait a minute. So I start making the throwing arm way better right handed, hitting lefty. And scooter, he scoots on his. His push off foot is his left foot. So, Matt, you're a lefty. Nick, you were switch hitter, throw lefty. I think you were golfing righty in the Bahamas though, right? What am I dealing with here? I don't. My older son was clearly right handed. I am so confused by what this kid is. Any advice?
Matt Leinart
Hey, we're the, we're the same because I throw left, I golf right, and I bat right, but I kick like I kick a ball left. I'm. I'm opposite. That's. That's fairly common, Jerry. Don't worry.
Jerry Ferrara
Is it? I. I'm from a family of right handing boring people. With sports. There's all righties. Nothing new.
Nick Swisher
Can I also just point out the most obvious thing? He's three, bro.
Jerry Ferrara
That's a good point. That's a good point.
Matt Leinart
By the way, the fact that you're.
Nick Swisher
With his feet right now, bro. As long as he's enjoying what he's doing and you get to spend time with him. Because listen, I know how much you love sports and I know how much you love your kids and the fact that you're able to spend time with them is such a blessing for all of us. Maddie, obviously I see your kid on the gram and what he's been able to do and kind of maybe following in your footsteps a little bit. That has to be such a blessing for you to be able to do that.
Matt Leinart
It is the be. It's. It's the best feeling and it's the best advice for all of us is just trying not to overstep and enjoy the ride because it really like my, my oldest son turns 18 this week. It's. It's mind boggling and he's going. Gonna play college football ideally. And now my little ones are four and a half and three and we got another one on the way. It's like 18. Where did time. Where did time go? So my advice always is like try not like be a dad, coach. Do everything but enjoy the moment and enjoy the process and just the journey because it can be gone like that and, and Jerry. It's okay, dude. Righty, lefty, listen.
Nick Swisher
Yeah, but it don't matter, bro.
Jerry Ferrara
I mean, I just don't want to start buying all the wrong stuff. I got, I got. It's golf clubs, glove batting. I got all sorts of stuff. I'm buying the wrong stuff. I don't know what I have. I'm so confused.
Matt Leinart
That's a good problem, man. We might be, you know.
Nick Swisher
Yeah. Hey, listen man, just hey, enjoy the process, bro. You may be.
Matt Leinart
We know that, we know that guy. We know the, the little guys are going to be a stick in golf, dude.
Jerry Ferrara
Hey, you're talking to a Guy whose kid just got his first compliment in soccer, so. But I'm listening. Listen, my goal. I'm with unit. My goal is to never embarrass my kids. So regardless of what I feel inside, I have an A handle on my emotions. So, like, I. I'm never gonna embarrass my kids on the field. But I tell you what, I think we gotta plan a little boys trip and go to Home Run X, man.
Matt Leinart
Dude, I'm in. Man, that was awesome. Swish.
Nick Swisher
I know. Again, I know a guy that can get y'all tickets, man.
Jerry Ferrara
I feel like you got the hookup, right?
Nick Swisher
I'll get y'all some VIP tickets. Oh, also too, Jerry. Hey, it's in the mail, dog. Your little boy. Hey, he's got a Yankee hat coming this way. Because I saw something on the gram the other day.
Jerry Ferrara
They're trolling.
Nick Swisher
Make sure he gets the right hat on, you know, I mean, I think we got. We got these new ones that just came out. You know what I'm saying? We got these ones right here.
Jerry Ferrara
Oh, don't tell me that's in the mail. Switch.
Matt Leinart
That his. His which his wife just trolling, so.
Nick Swisher
I got a few of those. Just make sure. Make sure that address is in my text messages. We'll make sure that happens.
Matt Leinart
Hey, listen, all. All I'll take. I'll take a judge signed jersey. That's what I'll take, by the way, man.
Nick Swisher
Hey, wouldn't we all. Maddie.
Matt Leinart
Hey, I want to say, well, two things.
Nick Swisher
Oh, IO, baby, IO you've been watching the boys, man. Hey, that organ game was a tough one. It was a tough one.
Matt Leinart
We're in Ohio this weekend and we're going to be there quite a bit over the next six weeks. I expect you. I expect to see you out there. They're going to make a run. And then I want to say this. Love you boys. Good luck to your Yankees this series. Okay? Good luck to your Yankees. May the best team win.
Nick Swisher
I mean, honestly, you know who I'm rooting for. I think you know who Jerry's rooting for. But the fact that our game is finally getting the matchup that we want, right, is just one of those things, bro. We've been waiting on this for a minute. East coast, west coast, bro. Yeah, for real, man. It just seems like there's so many things that are going on and obviously, you know, hey, Dodger Stadium's gonna be on fire and the Bronx is gonna be on.
Jerry Ferrara
Well, enjoy it, man, because you're gonna be in la. So Enjoy all of it.
Nick Swisher
I'm gonna be there in LA I and then when you guys get your tickets all locked up, Game five. I'll be there. Game five for sure. I think Joe's gonna fly up too. She wants to come to one of the games. So we'll all be there, man. So make sure y'all let me know when you get up there.
Matt Leinart
But I'm about to fire off this group chat after this.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah, yeah, no, we're hitting up because.
Matt Leinart
We got, we got a little. We gotta have. We gotta have a wager on this as well. Although you might not, you know, swish. You're part of the Yankees organization. You might not be able to wager. But we'll do something friendly. We'll do something.
Nick Swisher
All right, I'm in for that. I'm in for that.
Jerry Ferrara
Nick, can't thank you enough. Love to family. Enjoy the World Series Home Run Derby X. We'll see you there. You're the best, man. Take care.
Matt Leinart
Love you, bro. Thanks for coming on.
Nick Swisher
Hey, love you guys, man. You guys are fucking killing it, man.

I mean, how great is Nick Swisher? What a stud, man. Having him on the show, talking Yankees, Dodgers, and I can only imagine, dude, what he's like on the sideline with his, with his daughters. That's amazing stuff. All right, before we get into our throwb back three, it is time to crown them guys. Brought to you by DraftKings. And this week I am crowning Navy. Okay, Navy is one of the great stories in college football this year. They're undefeated. Army as well is undefeated. They are playing Notre dame. They're getting 13 points. I think this game is going to be low scoring. I'd even almost take the under in this game. But I, I imagine Navy is going to keep this game within 13 points. I'm not exactly sure they're going to win, but shout out to Navy. They're having a hell of a season. Navy +13 is the play this week. So all that being said, now this weekend, sledding games, obviously jam packed. Remember, guys, to use the promo code, throwbacks bet just $5 on any wager and get 200 in bonus bets right away only at DraftKings sportsbook. All lines are subject to change. Navy plus 13. Here we go. Jerry, it's time.
Jerry Ferrara
Time. Throwback three. Last week's throwback three, I think was my favorite and I think the audience let us know. I got a lot of responses on, on our social and on the throwback show. Social.
Matt Leinart
It was great.
Jerry Ferrara
A lot of people loved your NBA jam. Frankie Fingers Z8 said no MVP baseball is insane. Not wrong. We can only pick three, though. There was a lot of Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball. Jeff O'Neill pointed that out and then we even had some love with NHL 94. There's like, apparently people still play competitive NHL 94. I think we got invited to the playoff matchups for people playing NHL 94 on Sega Genesis.
Matt Leinart
Sega Genesis.
Jerry Ferrara
That was mine. It's your turn this week. Matt. What is throwback for you for this week?
Matt Leinart
This is, this is, this is my favorite because we can do a thousand different things but in the spirit of sport. And you, you feel, you feel like a conspiracy theory guy to me?
Jerry Ferrara
I totally am.
Matt Leinart
You totally are. So I was looking back and I was trying to think of the top sports conspiracy theories out there. You can go all the way back to the 60s or you can go back to very recent. So I want to do our top throwback three conspiracy sports theories all time. Whatever you think. I know.
Jerry Ferrara
Again, I just want to point out conspiracy alleged.
Matt Leinart
Everything that's Alleged. Yeah. I mean, look.
Jerry Ferrara
Or we not even close.
Matt Leinart
We neither confirm or deny. It may or may not have happened. We don't know. We may know people that know. We may not. I don't know. Okay, but why don't you start number three?
Jerry Ferrara
So I'm starting with number three. And, you know, no one knows if this is true, but certainly we know the boxing world has been a little murky over the years.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, a lot of rigged fights.
Jerry Ferrara
Sonny Liston rigged fight, took a dive against Muhammad Ali. There was mob debt or whatever. It's a very interesting theory because you certainly could believe it. There's been movies written about stuff like that. But the punch really go real. I mean, I know a lot of you probably looked at. Really look at it. He fell awkwardly. I don't know, man. And Muhammad Ali would have probably beat him anyway, but maybe he just didn't want to be in there for 10 rounds, 12 rounds, actually getting hit. Not saying it's true, but that is my number three.
Matt Leinart
Sonny, you know, those guys. You know, those guys back in the day were up to some shenanigans outside the boxing match. I. I just said, I. I don't know.
Jerry Ferrara
Let's go watch Raging Bull. Let's go. It's Raging Bull.
Matt Leinart
All right, so this one was tough for me. Number three. You're gonna hate me for this. I'm going the bloody sock. Kurt Schilling, 2004, game six. Okay, I have a little. I have a little quote here. Baltimore Orioles play by play announcer Gary Thorne suggests that the red material on Kurt Schilling sock during Game 2 of the 2004 World Series was in fact, paint, not blood. The media runs wild with the story, and everybody thinks it's ketchup and all this stuff, but in fact, he was dealing with an ankle injury. Remember that back in the day?
Jerry Ferrara
Do I remember it? I lived through that game. That game was brutal. I do enjoy this one because it brings on a lot of interesting debate. Number one, you have an ankle injury. Why the. Why the. Is your ankle bleeding? Did you.
Matt Leinart
Because he had. He had. He had sutures in his ankle. That's his. So they.
Jerry Ferrara
They surgery or he needed.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, from something. From. I think, whatever. From some tendon deal. I was trying to.
Jerry Ferrara
Okay, but, Matt, if you have sutures. Great use of the word sutures, by the way. You could have just said stitches, but you went sutures. I fucking love it.
Matt Leinart
That's good.
Jerry Ferrara
Wouldn't you also properly wrap this? You have professionals of every medical level. Wouldn't you Wrap it properly so the blood doesn't soak through.
Matt Leinart
Well, dude, this is the whole conspiracy. Maybe. Maybe it wasn't blood. Maybe it was just a big okay.
Jerry Ferrara
For the actual moment. Is it because it's a win win? Like, if you win the game, you're a hero. You pitched and won for the red.
Matt Leinart
Socks, by the way. Pitch his ass off that game. He won the game.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah, but if you lose, you could say, I don't want to blame injuries, but then basically, the bloody sock is your.
Matt Leinart
Dude, Talk about eating on the. I mean, you had a hot dog with ketchup on the sideline, spilling the sock.
Jerry Ferrara
I don't know. That's a. That's a wonky.
Matt Leinart
I just remember that. Yeah, I remember that story. Obviously, the fabrication of what it was, but I remember, like, the bloody sock. It was like the. It was like. It was like a guy playing with, like, a broken arm in football or something. Like, oh, my God. Like, dude, it's a bloody sock, bro. I mean, you shoot that. You shoot that thing up and you.
Jerry Ferrara
Go, all right, you ready for my number two? Yeah, I'm going with the. The Ravens Niners blackout. Now. I remember well where I was when that happened. I remember who I was watching it with. I do remember the momentum of the game switching. I never fully bought into the conspiracy of it in the time until, just to make it more fun, several interviews with Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs after the game. Like, Terrell Suggs said, yeah, Goodell's up to a shit again.
Matt Leinart
It's like, how does a billion dollars. How does a billion dollar stadium lose outage in a Super Bowl?
Jerry Ferrara
But that could be, you know, freak things could happen. But I guess coming off the Beyonce concert. But what. And also, how do you know pulling the power out, though, is going to galvanize the 49ers to play better? Because the Ravens had the game. But either way, it led to a much more competitive game. I just think you have Beyonce in that. You have the app, the players actually commenting, and any time, you know, we got Goodell in there, too. It's a great one. That's my number two. That's a really fun, almost modern one.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, no, I remember that one. All right, number two. I'm going back 2002, Western Conference finals.
Jerry Ferrara
Oh, I know where you go.
Matt Leinart
Lakers Kings, by the way, real quick. That was like my childhood. So I was 19. Like the Kobe, Shaq era, the battles with the Kings, man, they were with. With. With Chris Weber, and they had. Who else had Doug Christie they had.
Jerry Ferrara
Doug Christie, Mike Bibby.
Matt Leinart
Oh, they. Those were battles. Spurs back in the day.
Jerry Ferrara
Asia, right? Was it Paja?
Matt Leinart
Paja Stojakovich. Lakers trailed the Kings 32 in the series. Going into the fourth quarter of Game 6, the Lakers guess how many free throws the Lakers shot.
Jerry Ferrara
I don't have to guess fourth quarter because I. Fourth quarter, I promise I didn't look this up. I remember I had to look this up.
Matt Leinart
Up.
Jerry Ferrara
I remember because I. From when it happened, it was 27, wasn't it?
Matt Leinart
27 free throws.
Jerry Ferrara
I didn't even look that up.
Matt Leinart
And the whole. And the whole conspiracy that you. You want the Lakers in the finals and obviously that kind of stuff. Right. Years later, then we talk about Tim Donahue, you know, who resigned and later admitted to gambling on NBA games and that whole thing, which is an incredible documentary too. He suggested that the conspiracy was real, noting that that he heard a game had been fixed that matched the description of the playoff game.
Jerry Ferrara
Just murky territory back then.
Matt Leinart
And I hate saying that for my Lakers, but I mean, listen, it's happened. I don't know. 27 free throws in the fourth quarter, down 32 in the series against a. Yeah, that's pretty crazy.
Jerry Ferrara
One day I would love to. You know, we. You always get asked and we even ask some people, like, you know, who would you love to play golf with or have a drink with? I would love to. Well, or just get. Get one of these commissioners post career where they're old enough, where they don't.
Matt Leinart
Give a shit and be like.
Jerry Ferrara
And maybe they like to drink still. You have a couple of pops and he's like, yeah, let me tell you about 2002.
Matt Leinart
Let me tell Goodell. Let me tell you about Spygate real quick.
Jerry Ferrara
You want to know what was on the tapes that I destroyed, which is another great one. I didn't go with that one because we don't actually. No one ever had a concrete theory as to what else was on those tapes that was so damning. But that would be an honorable mention for me. All right, I guess it's time for my number one. Now, look, prefacing this to our audience, there's a universal number one. I'm gonna trust that you're gonna do it because you're my co host and I feel I'm gonna test our chemistry right now.
Nick Swisher
All right.
Jerry Ferrara
I'm not gonna say the universal number one, but I'm gonna go for people listening.
Matt Leinart
I don't know what you're. Yeah, I don't know.
Jerry Ferrara
I just have to believe you're gonna do this?
Matt Leinart
No, no, but we don't. Don't. We don't go over this before. I have no idea what you're going to say.
Jerry Ferrara
I'm winging it, and I have to go with my Knicks, because this is a favorite one, and we're sticking with basketball. David Stern, that. The frozen envelope. First of all, scientifically, can that happen? Can you make an envelope cold enough so someone puts their hand in and it's just to the touch, like, oh, that's the one. I've studied the tape. I don't really see any fishing around. I feel like there's easier ways to rig that if you want to. But anyway, yeah, they basically rigged the lottery. So the Knicks get the number one pick knowing they had Patrick Ewing waiting. What a time. Because you would think they would have rigged the lottery. I. No disrespect to our spurs, but there's other franchises that definitely have a bigger market that could have used Wemby. So I put that. I put that theory to the test. Why didn't they do it with Wemby? Maybe it's too hard. Now, that's a favorite one.
Matt Leinart
The NBA lottery, to me, still is weird. Like, the balls and all that kind of stuff. Stuff. Even. Even.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah. I don't even get it anymore. Yeah, I don't follow it. Just show me who gets it. I'm gonna trust that you did it. But for something fun to explore one day is like, yeah, dude, Obviously they want ratings in big markets, but, yeah, to rig a lottery for Patrick Ewing, I don't know. That's a rough one to believe, but it's a fun one. I love people who hang on to it. Now let's see if I know my boy.
Matt Leinart
All right. Allegedly.
Jerry Ferrara
Allegedly.
Matt Leinart
Start with that.
Jerry Ferrara
I like where you're going.
Matt Leinart
I'm trying to pull. Okay. Cal Ripken Jr.
Jerry Ferrara
The best one ever.
Matt Leinart
26, 32 consecutive games over the span of 16 seasons, which will never be broken. Okay. He broke Lou Gehrig's record September 6, 1995.
Jerry Ferrara
Let's take.
Matt Leinart
There's some shenanigans that may or may not have happened prior to that, that the conspiracy theory may or may not have happened on August 14, 1997. Okay. Remember, his active streak was in jeopardy, and there happened to be a power outage right at the home field. So he wasn't going to play the game.
Jerry Ferrara
Right?
Matt Leinart
He was. He wasn't going to play the game. But why? Well, I mean, we can read into it, but, you know, there.
Jerry Ferrara
Let's Say the rumor, Matt. I feel like.
Matt Leinart
The rumor is Kevin. The rumor is Kevin Costner was shooting a movie, Baseball, which he's. He was a baseball player. He played in a lot of some of the most iconic baseball movies. He may or may not had relations with Cal Ripken's wife. And Cal Ripken was pissed. He was heated. He wasn't going to show up for the game. I'm fucking over it. I'm not playing. I got other things on my mind. And all of a sudden, the light power goes out.
Jerry Ferrara
Conveniently.
Matt Leinart
Conveniently. I'm just saying that rumor has been around a long time.
Jerry Ferrara
So, yeah, I. I don't mean to be so, like, hyper excited to talk about this, because if it caused any pain to the Ripken family or the Costner's apologies. So we're not trying to laugh at your pain because it's not funny, but just as a conspiracy theory. And by the way, they've both talked about it publicly and denied it. Kevin Costner called into a radio station, I think, in, like, 02, and was basically saying, like, why? There's other ways to cancel a game. It's bullshit. Blah, blah, blah. I just. The. The. The holes I want to poke in it as a theory, okay, he catches his wife, whatever. It's probably not true. I'd say it's probably 88% not true, although some have said otherwise. But now, the thing that I never fully understood was, are you not playing Mr. Ripken because you're emotionally distraught? Some have said it was a fight broke out and he hurt his hand. But if he hurt his hand, how do you know he's only out one game? So he hurt his hand. He knew. All right, we gotta cancel this game. But I'll be back the next night when we play. So I don't know if it was that, but if you were emotionally distraught. Listen, I get it. If it were me, Matt, and I came home and I found my lovely wife in that act, while I have what will arguably be an unbreakable streak going, even though I'm emotionally distraught, I'm still playing in that.
Matt Leinart
You're gonna be like, listen, you're not.
Jerry Ferrara
Taking the marriage and the streak from me. I have to have one.
Matt Leinart
I'm gonna deal with you later. I'm about to go break this record real quick.
Jerry Ferrara
I have to have one of those. And even if I have to leave the game in the third inning because the stomach flu, there's a million other easier ways that it could have been up. But still, there's a Podcast called the Rumor. I'm not forgetting the host's name. Shout outs. Like there's like a six episode podcast that just breaks down this conspiracy theory.
Matt Leinart
So dude, I'm. Yeah, that's a, that's a wild one.
Jerry Ferrara
It's a wild one. We'll never have the answer. I know some people have said, oh yeah, it happened. I know other people are saying that's a ridiculous thing to think happen. That that would be my number one too.
Matt Leinart
Again, I'm just saying most of, the, most of these stadiums, arenas, I mean they do pay their electric bill. I don't know.
Jerry Ferrara
So we have two conspiracy theories that involve the power going out.
Matt Leinart
Dude, those are good. Well, there's some other good ones.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah.
Matt Leinart
Let us know what else.
Jerry Ferrara
We glossed over a few. Let us know yours at throwback show on social media. We're going to wrap up now. That was a good show because now I have to go stress out for 24 hours until the World series starts.
Matt Leinart
I'm still on a high from Swish. Shout out to Swish for joining us.
Jerry Ferrara
Yes.
Matt Leinart
Yeah, dude, it's on. Dodgers, Yankees.
Jerry Ferrara
Should we make a bet?
Matt Leinart
I mean I got a lot of bets with you already. Yeah, what do you want to do?
Jerry Ferrara
Let's, you know what, let's take that.
Matt Leinart
We'll post it.
Jerry Ferrara
Yeah, we'll take that to social. So look for on social. We gotta have a little bet going and. Yeah, I just, I already have a few ideas. I don't, I don't want you embarrassing yourself. I want something out of this.
Matt Leinart
Listen, I wore.
Jerry Ferrara
I. Maybe a juju. A juju sign jersey, maybe connections.
Matt Leinart
Jerry. I wore a leprechaun outfit on big noon kickoff last year because SC for the whole. For the whole. Oh, it was for the whole a block for eight straight minutes. Dude, full character, full costume because I lost a bet. I. I will do whatever. I have no shame if like I don't care.
Jerry Ferrara
Let's take it to social media. Good luck to your Dodgers. Even though I don't really mean it. Thank you everybody for listening. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes shows. Growing shout outs again, Swisher. And we'll see you next week.
Matt Leinart
