Welcome to the afters uncut bonus content for our best friends behind the paywall. This week we're around with Jimmy and Larry after spending a beautiful afternoon inside podcasting with Ma Hadar, the buyer and director of operations of H. Lorenzo, a legendary store out in LA.
Larry
Dynastic. 40 mother years, dude.
Jimmy
Four decades. That's a lot. Launched in 84. God damn. The amount of cocaine that must have been done in that building. Honestly, Crack to heroin, everything.
Larry
The fact that he just met James Brown is so fucking sick, dude. As a child, just meeting. Also meeting James Brown as a kid must be the scariest thing of all time.
Jimmy
Cocaine James Brown did in h. Lorenzo in 1984 alone.
Larry
Yeah.
Jimmy
Damn.
Larry
We have a lot of like fun topics to get to. I just want to say having been to H. Lorenzo, it's. It's incredible. It's like I think it. Yeah, I mean, I think that just.
Jimmy
Like the experience of go of walking in.
Larry
There's a certain type of store in LA that does not exist in New York. And I guess you could outside of maybe like Hersh Lifers and outside of all the DSMs but like this idea of like a actual cool curated department store. You have Maxfield and H. Lorenzo and if I'm in L. A and I have time to shop, that's like a place. Those are the kind of places I want to go because I really think that you could because of real estate and because of clientele, you do not get that kind of retail in New York. You just don't. Apples and oranges, 100% the Big Apple and when I'm in LA, I want my. I want to have some citrus, dude.
Jimmy
Yeah.
Larry
So I just. I could just. I want to say like, I could not recommend it more highly. Just the window shop. I'm not buying a single thing. It's very.
Jimmy
Because you're can't afford it.
Larry
Partly not Stefan Diggs and then also partly because I think it's Opium Cap.
Jimmy
Kind of, you know, fits the la rich dude vibe.
Larry
It's options also. Sorry, before.
Jimmy
What's going to fit chat.
Larry
Yeah, it's just very. It's also very avant garde and like he said it's like a lot of like merging stuff that like is not necessarily in my wheelhouse. Again, I could appreciate it, but I wouldn't wear it.
Jimmy
Let's. We're going to get into it.
Larry
Let's do a fit check on the feet. I'm wearing Scarpa Mojitos, an approach shoe that I wrote about on the substack. Amongst many approach shoes that you found.
Jimmy
A new subculture to steal some valor from.
Larry
As you make professional inroads into actual directing. I have decided to just start dressing like I do director. This is. This is from Andy. Shout Out Andy, Our Andy Madeline, our director. Our kind of not in house, but we. He gets the.
Jimmy
He's our guy. He's our guy.
Larry
He gets the call. He's done a lot of amazing.
Jimmy
He's on the receiving end of the bat phone anytime we need to do some video stuff.
Larry
Most recently the Umbro campaign.
Jimmy
And if you're a brand that needs a good video guy, hit our guy Andy.
Larry
Yeah, I like these. I think it's kind of the synth. Why I've been was drawn to them is I think they synthesized like two trends, which was like gorp and then like the low profile sneaker thing.
Jimmy
You know what an approach shoe is? Yeah, yeah.
Larry
It's what you wear as you approach the actual obstacle that you will be climbing. Correct. Yeah. I did research for my little. My little essay.
Jimmy
They're like recovery shoes. They're like super comfortable. But. Yeah, I'm happy you found a new subculture to steal valor from.
Larry
Yeah, absolutely. They're. They're a store. Like you ever hear of us? I don't know, maybe you shop there for actual climbing back country. Pause.
Jimmy
Where is it? Or it's online.
Larry
It's online store. I mean.
Jimmy
Yeah, that's like the biggest like outdoor region besides like rei these, I guess.
Larry
Because they do like new colors every season. Like they're just. They're on sale. So it's Like a. Just like an easy.
Jimmy
Also, because no one's really buying for summer shoes.
Larry
Yeah, well, listen, I'm. I'm trying to make them work.
Jimmy
Well, real. Here's the thing, right? Real climbers are like known dirt bags. Like, they live in a van. They eat their food out of like a pot. They don't care about money. Right. The original, the OG Stone cutters.
Larry
Yeah, yeah.
Jimmy
They're just. Just want to drink beer, smoke weed, not shave their arm, not shave their body hair.
Larry
I would like a plate or a bowl, though. I don't want to eat out of the pot, though. I have.
Jimmy
Well, they live in a van. You can't drive. So. And then. And then guys that climb in climbing gyms who don't need approach shoes because it's a climbing gym, they're. Those are the rich guys. But I don't know, I feel like there's very little good climbing gear. We've established that.
Larry
Right.
Jimmy
So I don't know if, like, the dirt bags are necessarily, like, buying approach shoes consistently enough. Exactly. That's why I think they're on sale, which is great for the consumer. That isn't necessarily.
Larry
Yeah. For the poser. For the poser consumer.
Jimmy
No, that's not what I'm saying.
Larry
Well, no, I'm saying that. But I will say it's like, I don't. Outside of like seeing guys wear them on set, like, besides Andy, I've definitely seen some, like, you know, in our. The few sets that we've been on every so often I would. Now that I know what they are, it's like, oh, that grip is wearing scarpets or whatever. Or like, you know that. You know that this person that is working on the actual crew and Yeah, I don't know. I'm a fan. Andy, immediately, once I put him on social media, hit me up and said, well, thanks for blowing this up. And I don't know if they're actually going to be blown up as much as maybe just ruined now.
Jimmy
Wow. I can't believe Andy, the director has just experienced Lawrence, not gatekeeping, a subculture.
Larry
He wants to pose for un gate. Yeah. All I do is un gatekeep stuff anyway. Scarpa mojitos on the feet. The socks are the mojitos. They're called mojitos. Yeah. Delicious.
Andy
