Will Hughes
That's yeah. Great. He speak for once. Yeah, that was, that was the. That was the main reason I wanted to do this.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Thank you, Will. He.
C
Oh wow. You get it. Kidding.
Will Hughes
Yeah. No. Well, a lot of people let he cook don't get it and they message shut up. People that, that have followed me for like four years will message me being like, oh, I just got it. I'll be like, oh, okay.
Unknown Speaker
And that's it. That's all they say to you?
Will Hughes
That's it? Yeah. That's like A dm. I'll get. I'll be like, oh. I just. It. I'll be like, oh, all right.
Unknown Speaker
Wow. Your followers are really.
Will Hughes
I'm not gonna respond to that.
Unknown Speaker
How stupid are your followers? Would you say to the camera, look directly?
Will Hughes
Yeah, Some of them that send me that message, you know, they may have been kicked in the head by a horse when they were younger. It's a very.
C
It's a very British way of being reared and raised.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I suppose here it would be cattle, I guess.
C
Yeah. Cow, maybe.
Unknown Speaker
Do you think you're so nice with the wordplay because you're from the same town as the Bard. Shakespeare.
Will Hughes
Yes.
Unknown Speaker
What do you think she likes?
Will Hughes
Yeah, no, that is. That is. Yeah, that's. Sorry, do you want to go again?
Unknown Speaker
She's like a sarnay.
Will Hughes
What, sorry? A sarnie, A sarni or a sandwich. Oh, sorry, I thought.
C
Sonnet.
Will Hughes
I thought you were mispronouncing sonnet. I thought that's what you were doing.
Unknown Speaker
This bit is not working.
C
Your friends. Do your friends call you Willy, or is that just the IG handle?
Will Hughes
Yeah, people that. It's weird because, like, my best mates have always called me Willy, like, for ages. But then, like, my good mates call me Will, and then people that don't really know me call me Willy because they think my name is Willie. It's like a stage name, isn't it?
Unknown Speaker
Is Willy in the uk? He means Dick.
Will Hughes
Right, yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, Willie. But then so does P.P. hughes. P.P. hughes. Mr. Dixon. I don't know. You know, Richard. Richard's dick.
Unknown Speaker
What is. What is spotted dick?
Will Hughes
Spotted dick is a pudding with raisins. Okay. It's not a good one. What.
C
What's blood sausage?
Will Hughes
That is, well, like, black pudding. Do you not have that here?
Unknown Speaker
No, no.
Will Hughes
It's so good. It's like. What? Yeah, it's so. It's. It's. It is that. It's like oats and salt and pepper. Loads of pepper mixed with oats and salt and pepper. Yeah, it sounds pretty. In the meat. Yeah, you mix. They mix it with the blood and then they put it in a casing.
C
Give me the blood.
Will Hughes
But. But it sounds. Because I know we're about to go into, like, British food being. Yes, I can smell this already.
C
But you can smell the blood pudding.
Will Hughes
I can smell the blood.
C
You smell blood putting in the water.
Will Hughes
Yeah, but I want to say, like, mor. There's something called morilla, which is a Spanish. It's the. The original one, I think before the Brits were doing it. It's called Morcila and it's like a colonized before we.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Did we do Spain? I think we probably did parts of it. Did we do Spain? I think we've been about. Haven't we? But yeah. So Morcila, I mean it sounds a little bit more exotic than black pudding.
C
You know, sounds better.
Will Hughes
It's very similar. Yeah, but that's a similar thing. Similar, similar.
Unknown Speaker
All right, well, thank you for coming onto the only podcast that matters. There's only one way to start it off.
C
Fit check. Will, let's go, baby. What are you wearing today?
Will Hughes
I've. Oh yeah, I put on my own clothes today. Dressed.
C
Do you not normally dress?
Will Hughes
Myself? Well, you know, sometimes it's nice to have your mum give you a hand. Yeah, I've got some supreme shocks. Thought I'd wear those. It was between those awesome Amelie and. Or sort of snakeskin looking ones they did with Clarks.
C
Oh yeah, those are good. Yeah. The desert boot with the. It's like a creeper, right?
Will Hughes
Yeah, but I. No, no.
C
Or is it a Wally?
Will Hughes
It's the wallaby. Yeah, I've got a. Actually I'm a big, big.
Unknown Speaker
Oh my God.
C
Yo, show the camera. This man has a wallaby. Yo, that's fire, dude.
Unknown Speaker
Clark's.
Will Hughes
He prefer to be permanent.
Unknown Speaker
Jesus.
Will Hughes
I. I got that because then I thought when I started getting followers on Instagram, I could send Clark's a picture and they'd send me free wallabies.
Unknown Speaker
Has that did that has happened?
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
Worth the £60.
Unknown Speaker
Have you collaborated with Wallaby or with Clarks at all?
Will Hughes
No, I haven't.
Unknown Speaker
We have. And it didn't even require getting a tattoo.
Will Hughes
I did see. I did see that. Yeah. No, you should get tattoos anyway though.
Unknown Speaker
What size are you?
Will Hughes
A 10? Because I'm normally an 11, but. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Wait, hold on.
Will Hughes
10 UK. So 11.5 US down. I size down in wallabies. Yeah, that's what you're supposed to do.
Unknown Speaker
You gotta write that. You gotta write that out of the tattoo.
Will Hughes
Oh no, this one's. Yeah, this one's a size six.
C
I can't believe you got the tag tattoo. Like the. The hang. Like the hang tag tattooed on the wallaby.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah. I mean you gotta.
C
That's ridiculous.
Unknown Speaker
You have other. Any other John's related tattoos?
Will Hughes
That means clothes.
Unknown Speaker
Yes.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Or women.
Will Hughes
No.
Unknown Speaker
Or anything.
Will Hughes
I've got a frog drinking wine. Okay. He's good.
C
Where's that at?
Unknown Speaker
Did you go to the Frog Wine bar in Bed Stuy?
Will Hughes
Is that a thing? Yeah, here. God, I just need to get it up about this. This New York place. No, I almost went to a place yesterday that sold pickles and books.
C
That was a place in the Lower east side. What's that? What is it called?
Will Hughes
I think it might.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, Pickles and books.
Will Hughes
I think it's called the Pickle and Bookshop. Yeah, I think. Which is, you know, creatively named, but yeah, no, I think that's my only. My only John's related.
Unknown Speaker
It's a good one.
Will Hughes
Tattoo. It's a good one. But in terms of other clothes.
C
Yes, please. Socks.
Will Hughes
Some Edwins. Oh, socks. Actually, I've got. They're from a place called Lorenz, which is a. A UK based brand. No, but they, they make some.
Unknown Speaker
Some.
Will Hughes
They're quite. They're not a huge brand, but they make some pretty interesting stuff. L, R, N, Z. Oh, we're getting British.
C
Yeah, I always forget we've taken.
Will Hughes
Taken. Oh, sorry.
C
Z. Yeah, thank you.
Will Hughes
Z. Yeah. And then some Edwins. They're obviously Japanese.
Unknown Speaker
Is Edwin. I know Edwin is big in Paris. Are they big in the uk?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I mean, there's. There's a shop. That's right. And there's a shop. They. People go in the shop and they purchase the shirts and they buy jeans. They buy the jeans.
C
They buy the jeans.
Will Hughes
They actually very kindly sent me these and they're my favorite ones because they're kind of like darker blue at the bottom and then they go a little bit lighter at the top.
Unknown Speaker
Do you get a lot of free clothes?
Will Hughes
Yeah, more so than. I think some people that the whole thing is about cooking.
Unknown Speaker
Do you get a lot of free food stuff?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I do.
Unknown Speaker
What do you get, like hots and pans or like meat tin fish?
Will Hughes
Weirdly, all of the above. Yeah. I work with. There's a company called Swaledale. It's just like a really good butchery in the uk. So I get sent from them, which is spotted dick. Some spotted dick? No. Well, there's no meat in spotted dick. But they don't even do black pudding, so maybe they should.
Unknown Speaker
Hey, yo. My spot is dig vegetarian.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I mean, I think it is actually. It might have lard in it. I don't know. A lot of British food does have.
Unknown Speaker
Large fat spotted dick.
Will Hughes
That's a big fat spotted dick. Exactly.
Unknown Speaker
You know why we think it's funny?
C
Delicious.
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah. Okay.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah. All right. Hey, hey. Okay. It is funny. Okay. I just take very serious.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, we know.
Will Hughes
It's. Yeah, yeah.
C
You're a serious guy, dude. That's what everyone says about you.
Will Hughes
A lot of people say that the word serious gets thrown away.
C
No sense of humor.
Will Hughes
No.
Unknown Speaker
I think if you.
C
Such a bummer.
Will Hughes
If you Google upsetting. Couldn't. Wouldn't go out of place at a funeral.
Unknown Speaker
If you Google, what is Will Hughes known for?
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Which is what we do to research for the episode.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
First of all, there's a football player named Will Hughes. So say. No. No. What is Will Hughes, the content creator, known for? Known for your cheeky sense of humor.
Will Hughes
My cheeky sense of humor?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. According to Google AI, I don't have.
Will Hughes
A Wikipedia page yet, but if it.
C
Did, we don't either.
Will Hughes
If I did, that'd be cool.
C
Do you.
Will Hughes
Wait.
C
Do you call yourself a content creator? What do you call yourself?
Will Hughes
I usually say just like silly Internet.
C
Food, but for real, though, I know.
Will Hughes
Genuinely, that's what I'll go with.
C
Silly Internet food.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Because I don't really like.
C
That's your business card.
Unknown Speaker
That's a good one.
Will Hughes
Yeah. I don't have a business card, but if I did, it would probably say silly, silly Internet. I don't really like, you know, the influencer. The. The influencer words a bit.
C
Well, that's a. That's a dirty, nasty word for sure. But I think content creator. The reason I asked is because that's also kind of.
Will Hughes
Yeah. To me. Yeah. That's kind of why I don't say that either. Because I don't like.
C
There we go with silly Internet food.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Well, I think it just makes more sense about what I do because I don't. I'm not like. I'm not like really, really content minded. Do you know what I mean? Like, there are people that are content creators that are like filming everything all day every day. I don't really. I kind of like to not do that because otherwise.
C
Because it's your job.
Will Hughes
Exactly. I'd find it really fucking annoying.
Unknown Speaker
What will he Cook? Is an Instagram chef and social media personality known for his humorous, relaxed recipe videos, tongue in cheek humor, casual tire, short videos, collaborations, casual attire. Seems like you are a favorite with Generation Z.
Will Hughes
Apparently so. Well, I am technically Generation Z.
C
Really? Well, I'm no Generation Z.
Will Hughes
Sorry. Zed. Yeah, I'm. I'm 96. So I think 95 was the start of. Because they've just started the new generation Beta. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Terrible.
C
Terrible.
Will Hughes
Really? Really?
C
Generation of cocks.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Literally. Like, what. What is. Why would they pick that? I mean, I get.
Unknown Speaker
Speaking of, let's talk about this pink top.
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah, yeah, sorry.
C
This is from God is Ass.
Will Hughes
From. I don't know if you know. Supreme.
Unknown Speaker
Supreme.
Will Hughes
Supreme.
C
I've heard of it. Yeah.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I think it. New York base.
C
They're blowing up. They're going crazy. They're going to be big. Yeah, they're going to.
Will Hughes
Especially in 2025, you know, it being the start of, of a new year. But. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
What about the white tea?
Will Hughes
Yeah. White T shirt underneath? Just because no one wants to be touched by too much knit.
Unknown Speaker
Well, for me it said I don't want to get my underarm stench on it, so I had to like dry clean it and I can just like take it off and wear it again.
Will Hughes
Yeah, that's. That's also a thing that I had considered because it's hot in here.
Unknown Speaker
Was it for. Because you're here for how many days?
Will Hughes
This. Eight. Eight days. I think that's a long trip.
C
Hanukkah.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Yeah, that's why we're here. Yeah, we've come for. No, we just. Hanukkah was on Christmas Day this year. Yes.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, well there's.
Will Hughes
And then.
Unknown Speaker
Sorry, the following seven nights. There are.
Will Hughes
Oh, is it a seven night job?
C
Eight nights?
Will Hughes
I'm Jewish.
Unknown Speaker
No, you're not.
Will Hughes
From the waist down. Okay. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, you're British.
C
Well, nobody's circumcised.
Will Hughes
Yeah, most British guys aren't. No. Yeah, I just had.
C
They love a foreskin in the old country.
Will Hughes
Well, yeah, apparently so I was like 15 and they were like, yeah, that thing needs to come off. Wait, Spotted dick cheese.
C
Wait, for real? You got a circumcision as an, as a, a teenager?
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah. Wait, what, like discovered the, the art of oninism and then they were like, yeah, that needs to come off.
C
Was that your, you made that decision?
Will Hughes
No, no, no, no. I went to the doctors and they were, they were like, yeah, that's too tight. It's gotta go.
C
Your foreskin was too tight. So as a 15 year old, you got a circumcision?
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I was like 15 and anesthetics or. No, couldn't. Yeah, General.
Unknown Speaker
Raw dog, that.
Will Hughes
General. No, no, General. Like fully under.
Unknown Speaker
They already keep it and make a little bracelet out of it.
Will Hughes
I, I remember. So I was like 15, obviously. My mum took me to the hospital and I was there and they put the little white thing on you, the little dress thing and then, and then they put me in the, in the chair and then they go into the anesthetists or whatever and they, they plug you in and then they put the in you and you fall asleep, but because it's not like real sleep. Have you been under general aesthetic before?
Unknown Speaker
No.
Will Hughes
Like, when you go on. Have you. When you go under general anesthetic, you don't let. Your concept of time isn't there because you. You're not, like, dreaming. You're not asleep. You're just, like, completely blacked out. So literally, they put me under. They were like, this is gonna. You're gonna be three, two. And then you go. And then I woke up and half.
C
Your dick was gone.
Will Hughes
And they were rolling me around the corridor and they just done the operation, but I didn't realize. I thought that I just woken up immediately and they were about to do it, and I was going, don't cut my dick off. Don't cut my dick off. And anyway, and then I passed out again. And then I woke up and they gave me a tuna sandwich. My mum took me for a Domino's. It was the best day of my life.
Unknown Speaker
Cut your dick off?
Will Hughes
Yeah. They didn't. They already had. Only. No, but only the part that they were meant to go for.
C
Technically not an adult circumcision because you were 15, but that's. Have you ever told anyone that? Ever, publicly?
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Was it weird?
Will Hughes
Well, not on a podcast, but. You see, my fun guys.
Unknown Speaker
Did you have to get used to having, like, a new dick?
Will Hughes
Sort of. Yeah. Yeah, Right? Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Because, yeah, it's.
C
It's. It's less sensitive. Right. Is the whole thing.
Will Hughes
I don't actually know, because it was so tight that it wouldn't come back anyway.
C
Wait, so you. You have jacked off with a foreskin.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
And now you have jacked off without a song. What's better?
Will Hughes
Well, I can't tell because it was so tight that it wouldn't come back. So.
Unknown Speaker
Okay, so this is. Okay. All right, let's get to bottom. So when you. When you rolled the foreskin back to expose the head of your penis, it would.
Will Hughes
No, it didn't do that. That's what I'm saying. It wouldn't know. How do you pee? Well, it just sort of.
Unknown Speaker
It dribbled out.
Will Hughes
It sort of just came out. How do you bust it just sort of dribbled out, bro.
Unknown Speaker
Your dickies.
Will Hughes
No, no, that was south of France. It was.
C
No, there's no real estate for dictionary.
Will Hughes
I don't think that there was any of the. The cheesiness underneath it. Like, what the hell? It was so tight.
Unknown Speaker
Like, did it hurt?
Will Hughes
What the.
Unknown Speaker
Afterwards, your dick being strangled.
Will Hughes
Not Normally, no, I can't. It would, it would. It didn't hurt at the time. Afterwards, like five weeks after was like getting circumcised when you're 15. That's not fun.
Unknown Speaker
They just take the whole thing. They couldn't just like cut a little vent, like breathing.
Will Hughes
No.
C
Put a sunroof on that shark.
Will Hughes
They don't give it gills. It's just, you know. But they, they, they did what they did. And then for five weeks they were like, you can't touch that. Did you maybe after four, I don't.
Unknown Speaker
Know, you need to walk around with, like, oven mitts on.
Will Hughes
Yeah. No. You'd wake up in the morning and it would hurt.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, my God.
C
This is crazy. I don't think there's anyone that's ever been on this podcast that has. That is circumcised, that is pre and post as an adult.
Will Hughes
Well, I think it's important for the young generation to know that if they have a really tight foreskin, they should probably get circumcised.
C
Would you?
Will Hughes
Yeah. Would you?
Unknown Speaker
Absolutely.
C
If you could have the opportunity to have it back.
Will Hughes
No, no, no. I would have liked to have kept it at the end, you know. Why? In a little jar or something, you.
C
Know, have it just as a. Ferment it.
Unknown Speaker
In America. In America, if you get anything amputated or cut off, they cannot refuse you. Take it home with you.
Will Hughes
Really? Yeah. God.
C
That's in the Constitution.
Unknown Speaker
Great health care system.
Will Hughes
Incredible. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
You get a little prize.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
No, that's why Luigi assassinated the CEO. They didn't let him keep his foreskin.
Unknown Speaker
Right. All our diabetes and all our amputated feet, you know.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
You get to keep the foot as a little prize.
Will Hughes
What are we.
C
Oh, we're in the fit check. What's your hat?
Will Hughes
Thames. Thames. It's actually a balaclava, but I'm not going to wear it as a balaclava.
C
Oh, you can.
Will Hughes
I'll get a hot face.
C
But, yeah, it's in the pin.
Will Hughes
It's. Yeah, it's just hems, you know. You know, blondie, blondie. Thames.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, man.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
The river.
Will Hughes
The river. Yeah, it's the main one.
Unknown Speaker
It's pronounced themes.
Will Hughes
It's Thames.
C
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
What about all the jewels?
Will Hughes
Johnny Hoxton and then that one's. That's my dad's wedding ring that he wanted as a signet ring because he didn't, because he's got fat fingers, but ironically, like your cock fingers. Just like the King.
C
Like the king, yeah, exactly.
Will Hughes
But the. The.
C
It's A blood sausage.
Will Hughes
It's a blood sausage. No, my dad's fingers are so fat that it doesn't fit him anymore because they got fatter and so now it only fits me. And hopefully, as has happened to my father and my children, perhaps my fingers will get too fat. I'll pass on the one ring, then my children can have it. They'll get fat.
C
You have kids or you're just.
Will Hughes
I don't have kids. I'm just saying, you know, potentially.
Unknown Speaker
Why doesn't your dad circumcise his fingers?
Will Hughes
I don't know if you can. Great question, but we.
Unknown Speaker
I didn't know you could get a 15 year old circumcision.
Will Hughes
There's only one way to find out today. Yeah, let's. Let's get the paper cutter.
C
What's the watch?
Will Hughes
Just an apple watch with a metal strap.
C
Do you use it to like keep track of the steps?
Will Hughes
And I eat a lot and if I didn't have this to like make me aware of how much exercise I needed to do, then I'd be the fattest cunt in the world.
Unknown Speaker
So you have to do a lot of exercise to keep yourself from just blowing up. 130 stone.
Will Hughes
The last, I'd say the last like two weeks because obviously it's been like Christmas and New Year and I'm in this country. And Hanukkah, of course, and Diwali, Shabbat Shalom and Kwanzaa.
C
Kwanzaa? Yeah.
Will Hughes
What's that?
Unknown Speaker
Do the Kwanzaa greeting.
C
Yeah, say the Kwanzaa greeting.
Will Hughes
What is that?
C
Oh, you racist piece of.
Will Hughes
What's Kwanzaa?
C
I have no idea.
Will Hughes
What is it? Is that like. It's Star Trek.
Unknown Speaker
It's African American holiday.
Will Hughes
Oh, right, yeah. No, sorry, we don't celebrate that.
C
Black Hanukkah.
Will Hughes
Oh, nice. Blondica Blonica. Yeah, I know.
Unknown Speaker
Accidental Rick Ross.
Will Hughes
Yeah. What is the greeting for that? I don't know.
C
Dude.
Will Hughes
Hello. You're racist. Come on.
Unknown Speaker
Yes.
Will Hughes
Happy Kwanzaa. Yeah, no, I think if. Yeah, the last, the last few weeks with Christmas and everything, I've. I've let, I've let it go a little bit. You know, I've not gained like 10 pounds. I have easily gained like, I don't know what pounds are.
C
What's a stone?
Will Hughes
Stone's £14.
Unknown Speaker
So stupid.
Will Hughes
So it's probably.
C
What's a fortnight?
Will Hughes
Two weeks. That's a month of Sundays. I think. I think it's a game for kids. Yeah, no, it's nice. It's two weeks okay. Yeah. For the last fortnight. Yeah. I've been eating like a fat little twat and I haven't been doing any exercise. Although I did run across the Williamsburg Bridge and back over.
Unknown Speaker
That's pretty good.
Will Hughes
The other day and it's quite steep. Yeah.
C
Were you like my life is a movie?
Will Hughes
Yeah, literally I was. Well, I filmed it. That's going in the New York video.
C
That I'm gonna play Francis Homo dude.
Will Hughes
Who's that?
C
It's a movie with Greta Gerwick.
Will Hughes
I need to get better at this. We've got an age gap, haven't we? There's a.
C
We're 10 years older than you.
Will Hughes
You're 10 years old.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. But I' Francis H. I don't plan on it should neither.
Will Hughes
That's okay. I'm not gonna. Who's a Greta G. So good man. Is she acting in it or directing?
C
She is acting in it and she wrote it, but she did not direct it. I don't believe.
Will Hughes
Okay. Right. Nice.
C
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
What are the panties?
Will Hughes
My pants.
C
Panties.
Unknown Speaker
Your knickers.
Will Hughes
My boxy shorts.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
I think they might just be a pair of Calvin Klein that are a little bit small cuz I didn't want to wear them on the plane. So I've saved the worst pair for.
Unknown Speaker
The last day when you're at your fattest.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
C
They're kind of last ditch option.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah. So I've got them and they're. That, that, that's pretty fresh.
Unknown Speaker
Besides the, the ALD Clarks and the supreme shocks, what other footwear did you bring? Because that's always like a struggle. Right. Is like when you're. When you're traveling, you're super limited.
Will Hughes
I bought just those two and I bought a pair of on running trainers. Okay. Running for the Williamsburg Bridge. Yeah, for the Williamsburg Bridge. Exactly that. So that I could stomp some serious tarmac.
Unknown Speaker
For your one run.
Will Hughes
For my. I've done two. I was gonna go this morning but my friend that I'm here with was quite ill and I couldn't be to go on my own. So I just sort of freezing out. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
It's really, really negative 10 Celsius or whatever.
Will Hughes
The. It's minus two. But someone tried to explain to me the, the, the reason why Fahrenheit's better. And I didn't think about this, but I actually might be leaning slightly towards the. The way of thinking really across the pond. So some. This guy was like with Fahrenheit, you think of it as like a hundred. Like a percentage so if something's like 80 Fahrenheit, it's like really. It's quite warm. But if something's like 20 Fahrenheit, it's like 20 warm. So it's like pretty cold. No.
C
Kind of freezing.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it's cold. So it kind of makes. It's like a glass that's full.
C
What's boiling?
Will Hughes
Well, he said if it was. If it was 100 Fahrenheit, it would be really hot.
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Will Hughes
But if it's 20 Fahrenheit, it's really cold. Yeah. And if it's 50, it's kind of like. Yeah, fine.
C
It's pretty cool.
Will Hughes
Well, anyway, okay, maybe that guy was a. I don't know. But that's. That's what he told me.
C
Yeah, I guess that is. Honestly, that is not bad logic.
Will Hughes
Yeah. It kind of made a lot more sense and no one's ever been able to put that into perspective for me to actually understand because obviously we've got.
C
This was a genius.
Will Hughes
Celsius relayed this. Yeah, good. Good guy. Rubbish at pool.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, billiards then.
Will Hughes
Is that, Is that what it's called here?
C
Oh, I thought that's what you called it.
Will Hughes
No, it's.
C
Paul, what's billiards?
Will Hughes
I think billiards is a different game. Billiards is when it's in a diamond.
Unknown Speaker
We're thinking of snooker, man.
C
Oh, snooker.
Will Hughes
Should have said. Yeah, that's. That is a different. Real quick.
Unknown Speaker
Are you a big darts guy recently?
Will Hughes
Yes, I'm getting. Well, Steven.
Unknown Speaker
Bunting.
Will Hughes
Yeah, Bunting. Everyone's going bunting mental or whatever.
Unknown Speaker
What's the 16 year old kid's name?
Will Hughes
Luke the Nuke.
Unknown Speaker
The new.
Will Hughes
Well, obviously.
Unknown Speaker
How did he get so good at darts if he can't even be in a pub or. I guess it's the uk, you can start drinking at eight.
Will Hughes
No, he is. He will have been in the pub like with his dad. So all the good pubs don't allow children in. But obviously this little cunt was really good at darts. So you probably let him go. Yeah, it's like having a dog that can do like a backflip, you know what I mean?
C
It's like party trick.
Will Hughes
Yeah, Literally, like. But except this is like some dad going in there with his kid and being like, hey, watch him. Show him what you can get a bullseye, you know?
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Anyway, yeah, he's.
Unknown Speaker
My kid can throw a bullseye. You owe me a pint.
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah, that's fine. I can. Have you got kids?
Unknown Speaker
No.
Will Hughes
You've Got to start getting Project Luke. Luke the nuclear.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, absolutely.
Will Hughes
You can start getting Project Little going because everyone's got Hitler.
C
Little Hitler.
Will Hughes
Well, yeah, I suppose if we're doing a little. Little Nazi portmanteau there, that would be. That'd be that. But no, it's like, you know, people talk about Project Mbappe.
C
Oh, right. You make your kid.
Will Hughes
It's like, obviously he was super young, made loads of money.
C
So you're saying James should raise the next Hitler?
Unknown Speaker
Yes, that's what he's saying.
Will Hughes
You need to raise the next Luke the Nuke Hitler. You got me. You've got. Falling over my tongue. Yeah, that guy. Luke the Nuke Littler. Get your kids chucking. I'm on it. All right.
Unknown Speaker
Fit checked. Oh, you're sipping on some Orion beer straight from Okinawa. What do you think?
Will Hughes
It's nice. Yeah. It's good, right?
C
Although a Chris Vlogger.
Will Hughes
Yeah. I need to know how you guys think about Miller High Life. The champagne of beers. Great.
C
The champagne of yours.
Will Hughes
Thank you. Yeah. Because that's my favorite thing.
C
You can't get it in the uk.
Will Hughes
Never had it.
C
They don't import it.
Will Hughes
No. Not anywhere I've seen. And I only clocked it because I've been watching the Holdovers. Paul Giamatti, Dominic Cessa.
C
Great movie.
Will Hughes
And in that film, they're like in the bar, and the guy's like, oh, can I have a Miller highlighter? It's the champagne. I was like, what's this? And then I saw they had it, and I didn't realize that you'd never had it before. I'd never had it before. I didn't realize that was the slogan. Yeah, that's actually what it says on the. On the thing. And I've been drinking copious amounts of that since I've been here.
Unknown Speaker
You like it?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I do. I really like it.
Unknown Speaker
Get some in Duty Free, bring it back. I introduce Colonize the UK with it.
Will Hughes
Someone needs to do something about it. I've had Miller beer in the uk.
C
Miller Light.
Will Hughes
I. I don't know what it was. It was like a brown bottle Miller one. It wasn't particularly good. And obviously Bud Lights Whack. So that's in the uk.
Unknown Speaker
It's too.
Will Hughes
Well, I don't like that at all. Yeah, I've heard that's a thing over.
C
Here, but can you confirm or deny is splitting the G corny?
Will Hughes
Yeah, it is.
Unknown Speaker
Thank you.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Just drink a pint of Guinness.
Unknown Speaker
There it is.
Will Hughes
It's.
C
Why do you think Americans are Obsessed.
Unknown Speaker
With it right now because it enables binge drinking.
Will Hughes
Okay, so there is that. We're pretty good at that over in the uk.
Unknown Speaker
But you don't need that. You don't need. You don't need games for that.
Will Hughes
No, no. Well, I think this is the thing. I think that it does introduce an ele of activity to go into the pub or going to a bar. Do you know what I mean? It's like, oh, let's see who can split the G. But actually, none of my friends are total penises, so we don't do that. That's not really the. That's not the done thing.
C
Total penises.
Will Hughes
Total penises, yeah. Because if you do, like, you see. You see it a lot in London. There's a. There's a pub called the Devonshire. Have you heard about this place? And it's owned by this Irish guy. And it's meant to be the best. I mean, everywhere in London. Oh, it's the best pint of Guinness in London. It's, you know, Guinness is good in Dublin because it's fresh. Guinness in London is slightly less fresh. But then there's something to do with, like, the nitrogen in the right tanks. It's all a load of. I don't care. Like, there's Guinness and then there's good Guinness and a Guinness. A bit like pizza is still fine.
C
Like sex.
Will Hughes
Like pizza, like pizza, Guinness. Same fucking thing. Have all three at the same time. Whoa. You got yourself a party.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, that's a creamer.
Will Hughes
That's New Year's Eve.
Unknown Speaker
All right, speaking of pizza. Fit chat, drink check complete. Let's get into. Into your trip here and your week of binge eating and, yeah, seemingly binge drinking. What have been the food highlights of your time here in New York City?
Will Hughes
French. French is one of my favorite restaurants. Potentially in the workplace, maybe really expensive, but, like, you know, it's. It's good.
Unknown Speaker
Did you ball out? Do you get, like two of everything?
Will Hughes
There was. There was six of us, so. And also the portions are so big in so many places here compared to what they are in the uk. Yep.
C
Yeah, that's America for you, baby.
Will Hughes
America. But so basically, that was. That was nice. You know, just ordered like a few. A few things.
Unknown Speaker
Wait, speaking of portions, did you see. Did you follow along? Like, right before you got here, there were these four Mancunian legends, these, like, Essex girls and gays that were in New York City and they hit up every single fast.
Will Hughes
Were they Mancunian or were they from Essex?
Unknown Speaker
Same. They were consuming about $10,000 a day. They were hitting, like, Chick Fil A Wingstop. You know what I'm talking about?
Will Hughes
Yeah, the proper Whoppers. Yeah, yeah, I did. I did see that because my girlfriend.
Unknown Speaker
Was self described Big fat lazos.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Proper Whopper. I wouldn't. I don't want to fat shame anyone because I don't think that that's not like a nice.
C
Do whatever you want.
Will Hughes
Yeah. I mean, but seriously, they were eating a lot. Like, also, why go anywhere and eat? If you're into food, which these guys clearly are, why go anywhere and eat food that you can have in the uk?
Unknown Speaker
You can get Chipotle in the uk.
C
But it's also not the same menu.
Will Hughes
Chipotle you can get in Wingstop you can get in the UK.
Unknown Speaker
McDonald's, chick fil A, raising canes.
Will Hughes
There are. There's no raising canes. Raising canes. There is not crumble. What's that?
Unknown Speaker
Crumble?
Will Hughes
Does it do apple crumble?
Unknown Speaker
No, they do cakes that are actually cookies that are actually cakes.
Will Hughes
Okay, that's. That sounds nice. But no, you can't get that in the uk. But a lot of where they went, it's like, look, there's a lot of fast food restaurants in the UK that are obviously very, very inspired by us fast food restaurants.
Unknown Speaker
Can I say, though, I've never been more craving. Like, the place, they did an incredible job of selling the places that they went to.
Will Hughes
Okay.
Unknown Speaker
And I've never been more, like, tempted to just order like a shitload of Wingstop and just eat a tub of ranch in bed.
Will Hughes
I think Wingstop. There's one on my. I live in Dalston and in.
Unknown Speaker
What's your address?
Will Hughes
I'll tell you my exact postcode immediately after. Okay. You can come around for dinner for Wingstops supper. Yeah, well, yeah, there's a Wing Stop, like, literally just up the road and the ranch from there. Because ranch isn't really a thing in the uk. Right. But Wingstop, obviously, fried chicken's a thing in the UK. It's been a. KFC's been the UK for ages. But, like, it's inspired by America, of course. But, like, it's fried chicken. You're frying chicken. Ranch. Wow.
C
Ranch.
Will Hughes
A ranch.
Unknown Speaker
You with ranch.
Will Hughes
I with ranch. Heavenly.
C
Wingstop, I think, has, for all intents and purposes, the best ranch.
Will Hughes
Agree. Like, it's incredible. And we don't really get that at all in the uk. Like, I like mayo. I'm a mayo.
C
Not the same thing.
Will Hughes
It's so not the same we are white. Yeah. I mean, it's pretty spicy, but I can.
C
So if you go into a grocery store in the uk, you can't get a bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch like that.
Will Hughes
That. No.
C
No one eats it.
Will Hughes
Actually, I think you can get the one that's like salad dressing.
C
Well, that's what ranch is.
Will Hughes
No, but, like, you know the one that's, like, slightly more vinegary. Like, it will say it's runny. It's more runny than a dip. Than a dip, Exactly. It's not like. It's not, like, creamy. And it wouldn't stick to a wig.
C
Less like a condiment and more like a dressing.
Will Hughes
Exactly.
Unknown Speaker
I think guy, the. The big gay guy with glasses. Because there was another guy that I think was the boyfriend. Absolute unit. Yes. Who's that guy?
Will Hughes
Big gay guy.
Unknown Speaker
He had some ranch, and he legit just fell over. He's like, oh, it's Heav. He just fell over.
Will Hughes
No, it is. I, I, I do think that Wings, Wingstop Ranch, specifically, same menu.
Unknown Speaker
Why don't you collaborate with those guys?
Will Hughes
I would like to. Yeah. Is Rick Ross. Rick Ross.
C
A bunch of franchises.
Unknown Speaker
Not Wingstop. Why don't you collaborate with the four Mancunian legends that were here?
Will Hughes
I don't think we'd go on.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
C
All right. You're. You're homophobic, obviously.
Will Hughes
Yeah. That's the main thing.
Unknown Speaker
They wouldn't want to go to France. They want to go to Mackie Maccas.
Will Hughes
I'm a snob when it comes to, like, food content.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
Like, there's. There's people that go and they eat, you know, mukbang. It's. Yeah, like, like bangs. Stuff's fine. It's been a thing for ages. But, like, when it's, like, pure, like, gluttony and, like, people filming themselves with, like, just around their face, like, they're stuffing their faces.
Unknown Speaker
I don't know, man. Their joy was. Their joy was pretty contagious.
Will Hughes
Well, look, that's, that's fine. But for me, I'm watching that, and I'm feeling like I've been caught by a sickness bug.
Unknown Speaker
Who are the food content creators you actually follow? And with.
Will Hughes
There's a guy in America called Chuck Cruz. He has him and his girlfriend. I think her name's Haley. They're really, really good. I think they're in Long Island.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
I'm not, I'm not sure, but he's. He's really good. He's got a really interesting, like, style of cooking. I think he's great. There's a guy called Ben Lippett in the uk.
Unknown Speaker
And you. Do you follow cooks versus, like, reviewers?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I mean, so, yeah, I guess so. Like, people that are like, making recipe content, but I think also now it's like you kind of have to do a bit of everything. Like, I'll do a bit of travel stuff. Yeah, I think that's more.
C
But no mukbangs. No asmr.
Will Hughes
No. I have. I do sometimes be like, oh, I'll eat never asmr, actually, because I. Again, that creeps me out. Exactly. That's.
C
That I love it. Is that weird that I. I love that? I don't know. It's just. I'm into it, dude. I don't know. That was gross, dude.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly. It's gross.
C
Well, yeah, okay.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it's not. It's. It's not for me, the. The ASMR stuff. But, like, there's a guy called Sam, Sam's Eats. He's really, really big on Tick Tock and I think Instagram. He does, like, ASMR cooking stuff, but it's like more like the sound of the knife sizzling. Yeah. And that's. That's quite cool. And like, with food. God, who's that?
Unknown Speaker
Jonathan Etchabon?
Will Hughes
I don't know this.
Unknown Speaker
Kim Kardashian's bestie. Oh, wait, Shaybon Chabon.
Will Hughes
Is he the. He's been on loads of British reality tv.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, he was in the Villain House or whatever.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Or big. Big. Big Brother. What?
Unknown Speaker
It's called the American name.
Will Hughes
Is it?
Unknown Speaker
No, no, no.
Will Hughes
Would make sense.
C
I should create a reality show called Villain There.
Will Hughes
Absolutely.
Unknown Speaker
Is there? Absolutely.
Will Hughes
Well, to be fair, if the concept for a TV show is getting some of the worst people in the world and sticking them in a house, Villain House is a more fitting name than Big Brother. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Unknown Speaker
House of Villains.
C
House of.
Will Hughes
Sorry. House of Villains. Okay. No, I, I don't have. I don't. Does he do, like, food stuff then?
Unknown Speaker
He does like, like, yo, look at this gluttonous ass donut. You know, like, that's covered in pizzas or whatever.
Will Hughes
I think. Yeah, I, I think also, I think the. The gluttony stuff is. Is bigger in the US Than it is. And there's a few creators in the UK that are doing it now, and they're doing very well by basically, you know, putting themselves in a position where they're gonna need to get on a Zen pick or something. Like, you know, it's. It's not looking good for Them, but right, you know, Whoppers. Whoppers, exactly.
Unknown Speaker
Real quick though, besides French yet where else have you visited that?
Will Hughes
We did Four Horsemen on New Year's Eve, so. Good. Always hits again. Went there last year. So, yeah, obviously last.
Unknown Speaker
Last year was James Murphy there?
Will Hughes
He was upstairs genuinely having a party. And there were these guys that came down from this party. We're outside having a cigarette and they were like this Danish couple. A fag. Sorry. Yeah, no, I didn't want to offend anyone, but yeah, you're here so we can say. All right. Yeah, nice. Oh, it gives you the pass, I suppose. Yeah. So I'm outside having a fag and there's this Danish couple that come downstairs. We're like, oh, there's party upstairs. Oh, do you know this is the guy from LCD Sound Systems restaurant. And we're like, yeah, we know. And. And they're like, oh, he's upstairs at this party. And I was like, no way. A Daft Punk playing. And he. And he was like. And they were like, what?
C
Or they didn't get it.
Will Hughes
Didn't get it. And I was, wait, are all his friends there? And they were like, like, literally, like both of them completely, like dead faced. And I was just like, I literally just threw my flag down on the ground. I went inside, I carried on having a delicious dinner.
C
Yeah, I applaud you on that for. That's pretty good. That's a good thing.
Will Hughes
It was. Yeah. I mean, but the food there, man, is so good. And the chef, the reason we went is because I thought it'd be a real. To get anywhere for New Year's Eve. Obviously it's busy time.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
And last year when I was here and I was really ill and I couldn't eat anywhere, I did manage to go and like try and eat like a little bit that I was with my girlfriend and there was a pork chop on the menu and I was like, if I eat that, I'm pooing myself in. Worth it in this restaurant. No, no. I was like, I can't risk that. It will be embarrassing. I'll be upset. But I posted about it and then the chef messaged me and I was like, oh, great, this guy follows me, so maybe I can. And his name's Nick. Lovely man. And I was like, this means that we actually have somewhere to go on New Year's Eve. Which was. Was nice because I didn't think it was going to be a bit difficult.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Because people in New York, like, sell reservations.
C
Yep.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah, well, that's in New York. New York. They just signed a law that's trying to combat it, but.
Will Hughes
Oh, good. Oh, good. Because.
Unknown Speaker
But that's really carbone and like the grill and like, like, you know, hype.
Will Hughes
Really high end kind of stuff.
Unknown Speaker
High end. Just like, just high hypey.
C
You had a. You went to the Commodore, right?
Will Hughes
The Commodore, yeah, yeah, yeah, I had, yeah, the hot breast and just some nachos and it was. I just love that place. Yeah, I saw that place on an episode of Munchies. Like the vice thing, chef's night out or whatever it was. And obviously it was like 15 years ago or something. It was like this big, big geezer from Williamsburg with glasses and he was a chef. And I saw him there, he was saying I was great. And then we wanted to go last year but didn't have the time. And it was the first. Literally the day we got here, we were like, oh, we're a bit peckish. Went in there like 3 o'clock. Great dingy. Yeah, those. What are the drinks? The pina coladas.
C
Yes, sir.
Will Hughes
Wow. I love it. Like, I like a place. We did.
Unknown Speaker
I think that's. That's the only bar I still go to in my 30s that I was going to my 20s.
Will Hughes
Really? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I'm cool. I mean, also, like in the. I think in the UK there's. There's a couple of things I love about the. The differences between like New York and London. And I think it is more New York and London than America and the.
Unknown Speaker
Uk because what are those difference. What are those, like, biggest differences?
Will Hughes
Pubs, obviously. Huge thing in the uk we love. Massive. Everyone loves a pub, but we don't have dive bars. You know, like, we like pubs that we have in the uk. Like, you don't have a jukebox. Like, you don't normally. You don't normally have like a dirty pool table. Yeah, you know, you just have maybe a darts board. Yeah, but like. And it's not like dimly lit and you know, there's not someone that hates you serving you beers.
C
So a dive bar is a novelty to you, like.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly, exactly. But obviously there's. There's one on every corner around here. In the same way that there's one one up. There's a pub on every corner and.
C
You'Ve got one around the corner. Magician.
Will Hughes
Well, we should go there.
Unknown Speaker
Do you not perhaps. Does anyone try to like make a dive bar in London or is it too much like a Disneyland type thing?
Will Hughes
I can't realize. Do you have pubs? Yeah, where they try and, like, do, like, a British pub.
C
I don't try.
Unknown Speaker
Yes, but they don't. But they don't hit.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Because I do not hit.
C
That's not fair. They don't have good ones. Name some Brooklyn public house in Fort Green, stupidly.
Will Hughes
Should be called the Fart and Swan.
C
Yeah, well, they're. Oh, okay, whatever. You're farting on me over here. I'm trying anyway, whatever. We can move on. There's some good pubs in you.
Will Hughes
Okay, okay.
C
But just, like, there's got to be.
Unknown Speaker
But it doesn't feel. It doesn't feel like you're sitting in, like, an old guy's living room, like, the way they do.
Will Hughes
Okay. Exactly. I've never seen a good dive bar in London.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
I've never. I don't think they exist in London. And I think that, again, like, you say, like, Disney World. It. Like, it's. It would. It would be too much of a novelty to have, like, a really.
Unknown Speaker
I think the. The New York ones are apples and oranges. I don't think, like, you get the same feelings as you do in London.
Will Hughes
Right. Okay.
Unknown Speaker
Is there anything about American cuisine that still confuses the. Out of you.
Will Hughes
The tipping thing.
Unknown Speaker
Right, right, right. Yeah, yeah.
C
We do it. We do it here.
Unknown Speaker
We don't pay our service workers living.
Will Hughes
Okay. So that is. Is obviously, you know, there's a lot we don't need to get into the sort of the. The political.
C
No.
Will Hughes
You know, and then the. The.
Unknown Speaker
What are your thoughts on the H1 economies? Sorry, what are your thoughts on H1B visas?
Will Hughes
Listen, I want an Esther or I'm going home, I promise. Yeah, but, yeah, I think the tipping situation is bizarre in terms of. If you go to anywhere in the world that I've been, you know, like, some places don't even have. They don't tip at all.
Unknown Speaker
Right.
Will Hughes
In the UK, 90 of restaurants, especially in London, have service included. Yeah. Which means that everyone can get paid a fair wage, and. And you might be paying a little bit extra, but it saves any confusion.
C
At the end and on the menu items there. It's, like, upcharged.
Will Hughes
Exactly. And I. You know, I don't want to name names of restaurants, but as I said, we. There was a weird situation on this trip where splitting the bill at the end and the way that, you know, dividing the. The tip up at the end was just. Just. It made the whole experience, like, confusing and just, like, you know, like, I'm very clearly not American. Like, if someone just explained to me, like, okay, look, this is how we want to do it. Rather than making it seem like we were being really difficult. That would be.
C
They blamed you.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It felt a little bit like that. And you know, obviously what's.
Unknown Speaker
His xenophobia is on the rise in America.
Will Hughes
Well, I have heard. Yeah, I have heard.
C
But so back.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it's, it's, it's, it's making a comeback in a big way. They thought it was over, but it wasn't. But. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
So tipping, so like the business organizational side of the industry.
Will Hughes
Yeah. I just think, like, if you go to a place and it's clear that, well, when you get the bill, someone should say, look, here's how the tipping system works. Because I don't think it's very, very obvious, like what a lot of.
Unknown Speaker
A lot of them do. A lot of them now do. Do the calculations for you. It's like, right, 20, 25, 30% and then what the total would be.
Will Hughes
It should be just explained in a. When you're in London, it doesn't fucking matter. Like, anywhere I've been, anywhere in the world other than America has been. You leave like 20 quid on the, on the table or services included, or you say, can we leave a tip? Whereas in America, obviously, the people aren't getting paid fairly, which is a different problem. But it does make. Especially when someone's very clearly a tourist, it makes it quite a difficult.
C
I think they should explain the concept.
Will Hughes
I think the concept should be explained a little better because it's not that obvious to someone that's coming over from. Not America.
C
Just Google it, dude.
Will Hughes
I have. And everywhere's got a different approach.
Unknown Speaker
When we're in London, like, we go to a restaurant or go to a bar, whatever, and you go to settle the bill. Not having a tip, I'm like, I feel like I'm getting away with a crime.
Will Hughes
Right, okay. Yeah.
C
Honestly, everywhere in Europe, I will.
Will Hughes
France usually leave a tip in London. Like it was just a tenor or something. Even if service is included. Because I think it's. If the service is really good, you should. Yeah, but that's the other thing. If you get service somewhere in America and you don't want to leave a tip. No, you have to. You have.
C
You always. You have to.
Will Hughes
No, I know, but then if you leave like 10% a couple of times, like, we. What you go to some places and they go, here's what do you want? And you tell them what you want and then they charge you and then all they've done is click, like, turn the thing around, and one of them says, says 35 and they want a tip of 50 quid.
C
The coffee shop conundrum.
Will Hughes
It's so stupid.
C
Sorry, but like, entitled service workers, right?
Will Hughes
Oh, God.
C
You heard it here first. Will Hughes hates service workers because they all.
Unknown Speaker
Because they're all polyamorous. So they have multiple partners they got to take care of.
C
You know, they have to get their hair dyed. That's expensive. Yeah, Blue hair dye is not cheap.
Will Hughes
You know, blue head dye is expensive. But I. Yeah, I just think that.
Unknown Speaker
But nothing about the food.
Will Hughes
Yeah, look, not customs, but I think that New York and London specifically are very, very similar in terms of, like, cuisine.
C
Everyone's mean, too.
Will Hughes
A lot of people are quite mean.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
In the fancy, in the. In the sort of cool, posh way. The cool restaurants. Yeah. A little bit condescending, which is. Which is a shame.
Unknown Speaker
But you like it?
Will Hughes
Well, I like the food.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
I can tell. I can tolerate a wanker if. If the food's good. Do you know what I mean? And I think most of the. Well, pretty much all the food that I've had in New York has been really good. Because obviously you've been.
Unknown Speaker
You've been playing the hits.
Will Hughes
We've been playing the hits. Also chopped cheeses.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah. From a cart.
Will Hughes
Yeah. There's outside the Williamsburg. The Hoxton. Yeah. And the Williamsburg. I suppose that's the hotel opposite, isn't it? There's, like, a green car. It's called, like, the bodega truck. The geezer in there just does chopped cheese sandwiches and, like, other stuff. But, like, the chopped cheese is clearly, like, not very good beef. Not very good cheese. Not very good onions.
Unknown Speaker
Nope.
Will Hughes
Not very good roll. And then you eat it, and it's a cacophony of just the most beautiful mouthful.
C
It tastes like the greater than the parts.
Will Hughes
So I love that so much. Like, it's something that under any circumstances, when described, should be shite. And then you have a bite of it and it's like this. I can't remember. I wish I got his name. It's the same guy every single day that we've been. And we've been a couple times.
Unknown Speaker
Is it ak?
Will Hughes
I could be.
C
Are you eating it when you're, like, banged up?
Will Hughes
No, no, we had it for breakfast.
C
Hell, yeah. Good chopped cheese for breakfast.
Will Hughes
It wasn't much of a breakfast food. But also the other thing is, I've spent a bit of time in Philadelphia, Chicago and St. Louis. And obviously, like, in quality, you've got. I weirdly End up doing a load of stuff with Major League Baseball.
Unknown Speaker
That's why.
Will Hughes
I don't know.
Unknown Speaker
Are they trying to make a push in the uk?
Will Hughes
We're trying to make a push in Europe. Europe. And they. I basically, they. I hosted a show called Home Plate.
Unknown Speaker
Because it's dying here. So they want to make it dying here.
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah, right. Well, they.
C
It's America's game, though.
Will Hughes
It's America's favorite pastime. But they. That is what they say, isn't it?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
C
It's America oldest pastime.
Unknown Speaker
So you go to, like, the ballparks and, like, eating.
Will Hughes
So they.
Unknown Speaker
Franks and pretty much.
Will Hughes
But in the uk, they hosted the World Series, like, a couple of years ago, and it was the cards for Cardinals versus the Cubs. So I was in St. Louis for a week and then Chicago for a week filming some stuff. But last year, I was in Philadelphia and then New York because it was Phillies versus the Mets playing in the uk And I got. When we were in New York, I had a chopped cheese, like, in City Field, and it was. No, not. Not the best. I don't know if I'm so. I feel like city.
C
City Field is known for having. Because it's a newer stadium, they have, like, good food.
Will Hughes
They're meant to have the best food out of any stadium, really, including football and, like, like, basketball.
Unknown Speaker
They franchised a lot. They franchised a lot of, like, famous New York spots.
Will Hughes
Yeah, but the chop. But in Philadelphia, I did go to a couple of places that did, like, proper.
Unknown Speaker
You went to, like, the real.
C
Oh, you got cheesesteak.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Like, I mean, different than chops.
Unknown Speaker
Where'd you go?
Will Hughes
Well, I know they're different, but this is what I'm saying. I'd never. When I was in New York, no one was like, oh, the chopped cheese is something you need to go try. We had, like, one day off, and that's where I went to Frenchette for the first time. Should have gone and found a chopped cheese at this car, because I think the chopped cheese is way better than a Philly cheesesteak.
Unknown Speaker
Really?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I really do.
Unknown Speaker
Where'd you get your Philly cheesesteak?
Will Hughes
Like, to be fair, went to a place called Geno's in Philadelphia.
Unknown Speaker
That's, like, one of the. One of the biggest.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it's. It's one of the big three, but.
Unknown Speaker
It'S the number one racist.
C
Do they call you the N word?
Will Hughes
Is he racist?
C
I think he's.
Will Hughes
Is.
C
That is Geno's race. I don't want to be rude or pats.
Unknown Speaker
I don't know. One of them is really racist.
C
Well, first of all, it's Philly. They're all racist.
Will Hughes
I've seen it's always the best is.
C
Angelo's the best day, but you gotta wait forever.
Will Hughes
But I just, I just love. I, I think the chopped cheese is a really, really good, really good. I, I.
C
You like that better than a Philly cheese?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I did.
Unknown Speaker
Genuinely, Geno's is racist.
C
Okay, G, we nailed it.
Will Hughes
It's good I met him. He was not racist to me, but I think it might be because I'm white. But anyway, the we in, in Philly, I had the roast pork.
C
Oh, that's, that's broccoli.
Will Hughes
Yeah, broccoli rabe sharp provolone. Yeah, exactly. I think that's the best sandwich in Philadelphia. But I, I think that's the only one that beats the chopped cheese for me as well from American sandwiches that I've had.
Unknown Speaker
And he got a roast pork sandwich from Fedorov's roast pork.
Will Hughes
We did get a roast pork sandwich.
Unknown Speaker
Williamsburg Institution was really, really good.
Will Hughes
But the chopped cheese, that's the thing that I want to make when I get home. Like.
C
Oh, yeah. Oh, you should. Would you put a spin on it, you think? Like, add some beans.
Will Hughes
Bake beans.
C
Just empty a can of hinds on that.
Will Hughes
I'll put fish and chips, some brown sauce. A bit of brown sauce. Hp as is a parliament sauce. Actually, to be fair, I think that would slap. If you put a little bit of HP sauce.
C
You should do with it.
Will Hughes
Yeah, no, I'm, I definitely.
C
When you do, can you tag us?
Unknown Speaker
Are you like, are you comments. Are you getting inspired to like, make at home?
Will Hughes
Because. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Well, I saw that you were gonna try and recreate like the Lamburger with an. Some Servos.
Will Hughes
Right. That was sick. That was so good that. I don't know. I mean, lamb and anchovies works. That's the thing. But I didn't know that that was a, that was a really, really.
C
That's a well known combo, I think.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
If you know a little tip from Servos for you.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'll definitely be, definitely be making something like that when I, when I get back.
Unknown Speaker
Do you travel to, like, get inspired to make recipes?
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah. I mean, I also with Christmas and like, I haven't really. Apart from cooking on Christmas Day, I haven't really cooked for like two weeks. Yeah. And so now I'm feeling a little bit like I've been away and I've.
Unknown Speaker
Tried some and now you hit the sticks.
Will Hughes
Yeah. I want to come back and cook some stuff.
Unknown Speaker
Is British cuisine unfairly hated on it? Let me preface this by saying that, like, scrolling through your reels, it's like. And, and it's like, what is British cuisine now? Right. Because it's the most, it's one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. It is. Has probably some of the best fusion, as corny as that phrase might be.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
In the world. Or in the Western world.
Will Hughes
Definitely.
Unknown Speaker
And, like, when you're scrolling through what will he cook? It's a little bit of everything.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
And it is kind of like borrowing from, like, all different parts of what, the people that make up British culture now.
Will Hughes
Yeah, definitely. I mean, I, I, I'll cook whatever. I, I'll just. If I like something or if I'm inspired by something, I'll cook whatever. But British food as a whole now, I think, I think people around the world don't consider the fact that, like, how anglicized, like the food of immigrants that have come to the UK is like, it, it's not like fusion, but it creates this own, like, Chinese food in the uk. Bosh.
C
Out of control.
Unknown Speaker
Have you chilled with Big John?
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Did you eat with him?
Will Hughes
I introduced him to a band, me. Oh, wow. He'd never had a band. He said it boshed. Okay, well, that's actually, you've used that incorrectly. It's just it, I think it's just, it's. You can't say, like, did it bosh. It is. You can't say it's Bosch either. It's just like. It's more of a bosh. More of like a feeling, isn't it? But, yeah, he, he's.
Unknown Speaker
I give this five boshes.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Oh, five big bosches. Five big bushes. It's it a doom.
C
He never had a bond me in his life.
Will Hughes
He never had a bond me in his life. Obviously, like, he's obsessed with Chinese food, but it's very much like the, the Anglicized Chinese food. Like, I don't know what. You have like, PF Changs over here, don't you? We have.
C
Well, first of all, American Chinese food is, like, incredible.
Unknown Speaker
Second, only the Chinese food.
Will Hughes
Okay, but.
C
Top two. And it's not one.
Will Hughes
This is the thing. It's like when you want, like, sesh one food.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Like, there's places for it. But in England, every fish and chip shop. Well, not every fish and chip shop, but loads of fish and chip shops will have Chinese food as well.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
So you can get both from each one. And usually they'd be run by like a Chinese family that are doing the fish and chips to like appeal to.
C
Of course.
Will Hughes
But then the, the we, you know, some of the dishes that aren't really a thing in China, that are a thing in the UK but aren't even a thing in the us.
Unknown Speaker
Right, like what's an example?
Will Hughes
Do you have. Well like crazy like crispy chili beef, lemon chicken, like salt and pepper chips. That's the main one, bro.
Unknown Speaker
There's a, there's a Chinese restaurant in Scotland, right, that's been popping up on my for you page.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Where like the daughter walks in, she walks in like a proper lad and then she's like, oi, dad, let me get all curry chips with the salt and pepper squid or whatever. And he's like, makes it and it's like a Chinese family but they have a Scottish accent. It's all. And the food looks incredible.
Will Hughes
It's like. Yeah, salt and pepper chips is such a weird one. Sorry. Salt and pepper fries. Right.
Unknown Speaker
Salt and pepper fries.
Will Hughes
Right.
Unknown Speaker
French fries.
Will Hughes
Salt and pepper French fries. Exactly. The French are getting involved.
C
Chips, crisps.
Will Hughes
Yeah, fries. Fries, chips. But it's like, it's basically just like MSG 5 Spice.
Unknown Speaker
Oh yeah.
Will Hughes
Onions, peppers and like crispy like chip shop style chips. So like fat, fat, sort of like slightly soggy but crispy as well.
C
Right. And yeah, when done well.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, but they're, they're great. But it's not a thing that has come from anywhere other than like Chinese.
Unknown Speaker
I mean it's like Kung Pao chicken here.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly that. Like we don't really have. We do have Kung Pao but it's. I didn't really notice it for a while. I think Big John's been. Been getting. Was it Kung Pao a bit bigger? We didn't. We. Yeah. We never used to order that. Like he's putting it on where I was from. Do you have a too chippy in London? Yeah, no, there's not really. I was having this conversation outside a bar the other night with this American guy and he was like, oh, he was, he was giving it all the bigger.
C
Do your American accent.
Will Hughes
He was like, oh, British food's so. I hate British food. Disgusting. Fish and chips, it's gross. And I had to be like, where did you have fish and chips? And he was like, oh, well I was in London. I was like, let me stop you there then, you stupid prick. You're not going to have of good like Most of the places that do fish and chips in London aren't going to be good fish and chips.
Unknown Speaker
Really?
Will Hughes
Well, because London's not that near the sea anyway. Okay. The best fish and chips I've ever had in the uk, Brighton, Margate, but Brighton as well, like, you can. You'd expect, like, good fish and chips, but like Margate, there's a place called, like Peter's Fish Factory or something. We had, like, fish chips and a pickled egg, which, again, that might be a British thing, and that is disgusting, but still. What's the.
C
What is it? What did Danny Brown, like, Monster munch.
Will Hughes
Pickled on your monster munch? Yeah, yeah. We have good, good, good snacks, I think. Like Chris Crisps. Exactly.
C
Oh, what's the. What's like the. What's like a. It's a obviously like a.
Will Hughes
Like fry.
C
No, like lays. Like lays in America. Walker.
Will Hughes
Yeah, Walkers.
C
Sweet chili. What's that?
Will Hughes
Oh, sweet chili. Sensation Walker Sensations.
C
Banger.
Will Hughes
Yeah, they're really good. But my personal favorite thing is, funny, we were talking about Guinness because, like, there's also this really cliched thing in London, especially where it's like Guinness and a bag of scampi fries. Have you had scampi fries?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, they're great.
Will Hughes
So good. Like, genuinely. Probably one of the best.
Unknown Speaker
They're too small, like they are, but if the packet is like this big.
Will Hughes
They made them bigger. Then, you know, you'd eat too many.
Unknown Speaker
I'd look like big, big John.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Well, exactly.
Unknown Speaker
What are your favorite restaurants in London right now?
Will Hughes
There's a few. I've got the guys from Mangal too, if you've ever been. It's like a Turkish restaurant. No, there's Mango one and there's Mango two and they're both Turkish restaurants. They're both around the corner from each other. One of them's a slightly more modern take on, like, Turkish food, basically. The other one's like, great, but it's like, you know, it's lamb chops. It's like your Esme salad and stuff, but it's quite like traditional. And they're both really, really good. And they're really near me and the guys that run Manga too. Especially, like, really, really nice guys. And there's a restaurant called Morchella which is opened up beginning of 2024, which is just like Mediterranean. But the way it's, like, presented is really different to, like, what you'd get.
C
If you were like, do you care about presentation when you eat somewhere?
Will Hughes
Not really, but if it's interesting and it makes it and elevates a better IG pick too. Yeah, I mean, if I. I find it annoying when you go to like a fancy, fancy restaurant and something so like, like diddy and pretty. Because I think that quite often it like, sacrifices deliciousness and I don't think that that should be a thing that.
C
Any restaurant should sacrifice that for.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly. Like, never ever sacrifice something being tasty to make it look pretty or cutesy or Instagrammable.
C
If we went out to eat, are you a phone eats first guy? Are you taking pics of everything?
Will Hughes
Like, yeah, if I can take a picture of it and put it on my Instagram, I can stick it through the business, so.
C
Oh, I see.
Will Hughes
Oh, wow.
C
So it's fucking economical.
Will Hughes
Yeah, pretty much.
C
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Is that true?
C
What's the tax law like?
Will Hughes
I don't know. I do that well. Well, yeah, because also a lot, you know, we were talking about like, like feeling inspired by a lot of it's like research and development, like, which is sick. Like, I know we were going to talk about, like, what the good things about being like a content creator and stuff are, but it's like, you know, if I go out to eat somewhere, like, I am taking inspiration from that to then, you know, apply that to making stupid little cooking videos that do seem.
Unknown Speaker
Don't call them stupid little cookies.
Will Hughes
Well, you know, they are silly, aren't they? But some of them are.
Unknown Speaker
That's why we love them.
C
Silly Internet food guy.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Well, look, Larry and I, we love London. If any brands are listening right now, fly us out, please. Let's do something. But if we're hitting the town with you for a day. Sorry, when we're hitting the town with you for you, what's the agenda that you're putting together for us?
Will Hughes
Whole day from start to finish.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah, sure. Start the morning off with the chopped cheese.
C
Full fry up.
Will Hughes
Full fry up. Well, I actually, I was gonna say a place that Big John. Actually, I like that we're talking about John in Bethnal Green.
Unknown Speaker
Is it Chinese?
Will Hughes
Yeah, it's. It's. No, it's like a proper East End calf.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
And it's like it. But weirdly, it's like an Italian family that run it. So you get like Italian. They're Italian, English. The craze. Used to eat there, you know, like Ronnie and Reggie Gray. Like, so it's like, you know, it's. It's steeped in history, this place. It's been open for like 100 years or something. Hundred even. Thirty years. Maybe, but 130 years been open a.
Unknown Speaker
Very, very long old country.
Will Hughes
It's, it's, it's a proper like old school. Like Italian immigrants moved to the UK and now like you go in there, it's Nev and Anna and they're like pro. You know, they talk like this.
Unknown Speaker
Peaky Blinders season four.
Will Hughes
No, that, that's Birmingham. Come on. Can you do a Birmingham?
Unknown Speaker
Adrian Brody.
C
Brody, dude as that the greasiest whop ever on Peaky Blinders the year.
Will Hughes
Yeah. No, I couldn't. I'm thinking over your gin distillery. I'm. I'm from like kind of near Birmingham. So I, the, the Birmingham accent to me is like, what is it? Well, it triggers my fight or flight.
C
Blind. Blind.
Will Hughes
Hello from Birmingham.
C
Birmingham. You go to Liverpool mode.
Will Hughes
I feel like now Liverpool's a bit more Scouse like that. You got anyway E in the morning and what we get is if it was, let's say it was the three of us, maybe Mike Keys joining us. Yeah, Maybe Daniel, Danny, maybe Jordan.
Unknown Speaker
Well, do they have chicken nuggets on the menu? Because then Danny will be there for.
Will Hughes
They definitely have chicken nuggets. That, that boy.
Unknown Speaker
Extra ranch.
Will Hughes
That boy loves his. His chicken, his nuggies.
C
Little boy needs his nuggies.
Will Hughes
He's going to love listening to this, isn't he?
Unknown Speaker
Why does he have the pallet of a child?
Will Hughes
Yeah, because he's a child.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
Have you ever made him something fancy? He ish.
Will Hughes
He's. No. When I've done pop ups, he's been to my pop ups but he's never eaten.
C
He's a tasteful guy.
Will Hughes
You think it like he wears lovely, lovely clothes.
C
Right?
Will Hughes
And he is a lovely, lovely boy.
C
Beautiful.
Will Hughes
But we've been, you know, we've been out for food a few times and every time Danny and I have been out for food, mate.
Unknown Speaker
You have an amburger?
Will Hughes
No, he's. No, he'll try everything but he'll like it. Feel. It feels quite. We went. There's a friend of mine called Mike Bagnall and he had a, A popup that he was doing.
Unknown Speaker
You have a friend named Mike Bag and Mike Keys?
Will Hughes
Yeah. These guys need to get together and feel the homies. Yeah, it's a good, it's a good time. But yeah, so he pop up. Mike Bagnel.
C
We never met Bag though.
Will Hughes
He's also like British. He's. He's Australian but he's working in London like. But he's like the one to watch. He's like 26 years old, and he's unbelievable. And he did this scallop dish. And Danny, I don't know if Danny had had many scallops before, but it was like a scallop with like a champagne bur blanc and like trout row on top of it. It was unbelievable. Like, it was so good. We had like, I think we had like two or three each. And Danny was just like. I thought he was gonna spunk his pants. They're like, oh, you like.
C
He never had a scalp in his life.
Will Hughes
I always. Oh, I love this. Oh, it's so good. Oh, it's amazing.
C
That's a good Danny, dude.
Will Hughes
He loves it. He loved it. But anyway, look, we're all going to eat Police. We're going to get the big Bang ciabatta. Okay? We're going to get ham, egg and chips. We're going to get one full English. We're going to get the Big Bang Shabbata. We'll share that betwixt six of us. Because the portions are fucking huge. They take a leaf out of your book. They're very big, big portions there. But the big Bang Shabbat is this sandwich, which is basically a chicken cutler pesto and ragu in a sandwich in a big ciabatta and mozzarella as well.
C
So it's a chicken parm with pesto.
Will Hughes
It's essentially a chicken parm with pest with spaghetti. Well, not spaghetti, but with Bolognese sauce in it. So it's. It's great. And then ham, egg and chips. I think this is the other thing. How the can you slag off English food when ham, egg and chips exists? It's the best. Ham fries.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
People just make fun of beans for breakfast.
Will Hughes
Yeah, no, that is.
C
Which are also delicious.
Will Hughes
I like spaghettios for breakfast. Or as we call them, spaghetti hoops. Attention, taxpayers. The IRS is intensifying collections in 2025. Unknown Speaker
You made some fancy spaghetti hoops in a real.
Will Hughes
Yes, right. I probably have, yeah. I think I have done that. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
I scrolled back.
Will Hughes
What did I put on them? You've got. You've done a deep dive. I don't know. Hey, you're like that guy. I didn't.
Unknown Speaker
I didn't watch it. I didn't watch it.
Will Hughes
Sean Evans. Yeah. So E. Paichi's Breakfast banger. That's what we're doing. Then we shall go to the Dove on Broadway Market, which is a pub.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
A public house. I like that one very much. We're gonna have to go for an early breakfast because lunch at Cafe Cecilia, which is just around the corner.
C
How many pints are we having at the pub?
Will Hughes
I think three before lunch is probably accessible.
C
I like that. It's a little warm up.
Will Hughes
Maybe sort of from midday to around 2:00, so maybe four, actually.
Unknown Speaker
What do you guys.
C
When you're at breakfast, right, and you want a little bevy, what do you guys drink over there?
Will Hughes
There.
C
Bloody Mary's, Mimosas.
Will Hughes
To be honest, I don't really drink with breakfast very often, but if I did and I was at a place like that, it'd probably just be a. Like a can of Stella.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
I think it's a logger. This is actually one thing that I was gonna say about. About. I don't know if this is an American thing or a New York thing. Again, it's. It's a blurred line for me. But your bars open late. Like they open till late, but they open really late. Like loads of places aren't open to like three or. Or like five. Yeah, yeah.
C
That's like a staff, if they have food or whatever. It depends.
Will Hughes
Yeah. But I feel like a lot of the bars that we've been wanting to go to like haven't opened till like 3 or 5 when we've been wanting to go at like 1pm And I don't know whether that's like mild alcoholism.
C
Or so you're talking about.
Unknown Speaker
It ain't mild, brother. It ain't mild.
Will Hughes
No, well, it's, you know, it's just. It's. It's. It's a weird.
Unknown Speaker
No, that's like a close.
Will Hughes
They open at like 11am in London and then.
Unknown Speaker
You gotta wash my footy.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly. But then obviously it might be in 11am kickoff. I don't know, I'm not into football. But they shut at 11pm Whereas you guys have places that are open to like three, four, loads of them. And I think that's great.
C
It's beautiful.
Will Hughes
But we don't have that in the uk.
C
Anyway, Celia.
Will Hughes
Sorry, I'm getting. Getting distracted. Lunch at Cafesila. Then we shall take a walk up the canal. Oh, we shall go a stroll. We shall go to the three companies. We might see Paul Mescal, he's always up there.
C
Oh, really?
Will Hughes
Yeah, he's just chilling, running up and down the canal, getting in shape for his gladiator films.
Unknown Speaker
Sure.
Will Hughes
He's only been in the one, hasn't he? And it was. But anyway, so we'll go up there. There's a pub called the Three Compasses. They have a darts board. We can do our best impressions of Luke the Nuke.
Unknown Speaker
Living Chalk and cheese.
Will Hughes
What does that mean?
Unknown Speaker
You don't know what chalk and cheese means?
Will Hughes
Wait, I said. Sorry, I didn't get the context of the.
Unknown Speaker
It's a darts thing, is it?
C
I was wanting cheese.
Unknown Speaker
I was wondering just. I was once watching darts and the announcer's like, oh, it's like talking cheese.
Will Hughes
I'm not the biggest. I don't watch it though.
Unknown Speaker
It means two things that are very different.
Will Hughes
I actually do know what it means, but I didn't realize what it was in the context. I do apologize. Sorry, that was.
Unknown Speaker
Keep it going.
Will Hughes
So, yeah, there, darts. Then we'll go to Mangal. One or two for Turkish at about 10pm Late.
Unknown Speaker
Late dinner.
Will Hughes
Yeah, because we've had breakfast and lunch.
C
Sure. And pints.
Unknown Speaker
Right, and pints and pies. What about pudding?
Will Hughes
Oh, spot a dick. Yeah, but not blood pudding. That's very different.
C
Are we going out after we eat at 10pm?
Will Hughes
Yeah, probably just a brickies, I guess. Yeah.
C
Okay. You know, what's the layers?
Unknown Speaker
What about a. Do you have a late night? Like go to drunk food?
Will Hughes
Yeah. I mean, when it's weird because again, like lots of places close, like fairly. Like when you say late night, you mean like 4:00am Or.
Unknown Speaker
Or like. I guess if a place closed at 11, maybe it could be 11:30.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I mean Wingstop is. Is a good one. When I get back, I do like a drunk McDonald's.
Unknown Speaker
I was trying to find, I think two times ago. We're in the UK in London. I was trying to find a. What are you, like a gyro? No.
Will Hughes
Oh, gyros.
C
What, like a donor kebab?
Unknown Speaker
Donor kebab. I was trying to find a donor kebab spot that was open and there weren't really that many open. We were just like working late. We weren't like out.
Will Hughes
I don't know what time they shut. But in Dawson, you. You have this weird thing where you, like, from Hox. Do you know what. You know where Danny lives? Like, sure. Like Geographic.
C
We went to his crib.
Unknown Speaker
What's his address?
Will Hughes
Imagine. Yeah, I'll give you. I'll give you his full point.
C
He's eating like a 711 pizza on the road.
Will Hughes
On the road that he lives on. There's like near a Shoreditch. It's all Vietnamese restaurants. And then as you get like further up, it's all Turkish restaurants.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
But they're all pretty good. Like, they're all like the. Well, a lot of them are pretty good. And it's like the best places you can get Vietnamese or Turkish food in London. But a bit further up you get, there's a best. Was it best Turkish kebab? And that's kebab, bro.
Unknown Speaker
The best late night food I ever had in, in London was Jamaican food.
Will Hughes
Okay. Yeah, the Jamaica we do have good, like Caribbean. Jamaican. Amazing yard, man.
C
The best. The best, like Indian. Best Indian food. Indian and like African inspired, like, or whatever Indian food.
Will Hughes
I mean, I've not been to India, but I can imagine that there's. Yeah, there's a. There's a couple of like really fancy Michelin star Indian places in the uk.
C
What was the place we went to that was banging?
Unknown Speaker
I was in. Manny.
C
I was in Manchester.
Will Hughes
Oh, there's. Yeah, Manchester, Birmingham, London. Like, the Indian food in the UK is wildly good.
Unknown Speaker
That's your reward for just leaving them.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I know, it's crazy. It's like we have the best, like the. The best multicultural food scene and obviously it all stems from some nastiness.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. What about your. What about being hungover? What do you. What's your go to visit?
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah, actually there's a spot called Q that does a really, really good banh Mi, but they also do like three. The three meats on rice thing. It's so good.
C
Combo platter, baby.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, three meats.
Will Hughes
Three meats. So it's like, what are the meats? What is it? Duck. Duck. Oh, duck, pork. I think it's duck, pork and shrimp. No, I'll tell you what it is.
C
It's land, air, sea.
Will Hughes
It's. It's crispy pork. Crispy pork belly, Char suey pork and duck. Damn. I tried to go the other day, actually yesterday to the. The really famous three. There was such a massive. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Wafang.
Will Hughes
No, yeah, we tried to go there.
Unknown Speaker
I'm not crazy that there's. There is such a line. It's really good. I wouldn't say it's worth waiting like more than like 30 minutes, but there's so many other places that do that dish that are just as good. Of course not Tick Tock. Famous in all Chinatown.
Will Hughes
I've not seen it on Tick Tock. I literally just typed in three meats on rice because we went to Lao Jang. Is that what it's called?
Unknown Speaker
The dim sums spot?
Will Hughes
The spot that I. Yeah, I put it on my Instagram story. I can't remember what it's called, but any Lang Xiao anymore. But that was really good. They did dumplings, they did like peanut noodles. And it was a nightmare trying to sit down. It was really, really busy, but it was great. So we'd already eaten, but I wasn't gonna queue for 30 minutes.
Unknown Speaker
Besides, besides just being a gourmand and a lover of the finer things in life, what's your favorite thing about working in food? Content creation.
Will Hughes
The free food. Yeah, the free food.
Unknown Speaker
Do you move, do you move in London? Like a food influencer? Free dishes every. Anywhere you go?
Will Hughes
I'm. I mean, I think. I know, I know a lot of. A lot of mates have got restaurants.
C
Right.
Will Hughes
Like, I don't know, I kind of like, I like the hospitality industry like a bit more than I like the, the, the online food.
C
Yeah, well, one is real and one is not.
Will Hughes
Yeah, kind of. And I think. Yeah. And I think that like when I go to, like when I go to a mates restaurant, like every now and again there might be like a little freebie or whatever, which is. It's nice.
Unknown Speaker
But do you feel. Do you feel pressure to post?
Will Hughes
No.
Unknown Speaker
Do they, do they hold it against you if you don't?
Will Hughes
No. I mean, if I go somewhere and it's a good meal, I'll always post about it because I think you shouldn't gatekeep. Do you know what I mean? Also, it's my mate. Yo.
Unknown Speaker
You guys heard about this place, St. John's oh, yeah, yeah.
Will Hughes
Okay. St. John, I have a bad relationship with because of obviously the, the food poisoning.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, I was not trying to bring.
Will Hughes
That up at all.
Unknown Speaker
Think of the most famous restaurant in London.
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah, no, that is the most famous restaurant in London and it made me myself for four weeks. Would I go back? Yes, because it's too rich.
C
Shout out to St. John and Drakes.
Will Hughes
And yeah, it's cool.
C
And we get invited stuff, but like, it's too much.
Will Hughes
It's. It depends what you have. I mean, look, Bourdain said that his favorite meal, his favorite dish was the roasted bone marrow sourdough toast parsley salad. And I think that is genius. But, you know, it made me myself. So it's really hard to sort of worth it, right? Yeah. I don't know. No, definitely, definitely not on that occasion. But look, it's been a year now. I'd go back, okay. I just won't eat the lamb's brains.
C
Settle something for us real quick. Right, so you go to a friend's restaurant, right. Would you rather have them send out that you don't. You're not even looking at them, they're just giving you that you didn't order, or would you rather specifically order what you want and have a little bit knocked off the bill?
Will Hughes
I'd rather they just sent the stuff out.
C
Really?
Will Hughes
Yeah. 100. I trust I, I trust I'll eat anything. I will literally anything at any restaurant. Unless it's lamb's brains. I'm sure it's going to be nice. And they know more about food than I do. That's fair cooking it. And I trust, I trust them.
Unknown Speaker
That's a nice way of looking at it.
Will Hughes
Especially if they're like, if it is a mates restaurant, we, we are of.
C
The opinion that I, we'd rather choose what we want and then maybe knock some.
Unknown Speaker
But I do understand, it's like, okay, well, the chef is the master of this domain. Maybe they can like, you know, put me onto something. Or maybe they thought that I missed something, right? That they really want me to try.
Will Hughes
Whatever. Well, I mean, normally, what.
Unknown Speaker
But they just end up eating way too much.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I mean, that's pretty much what happens when I go somewhere because I'll be like, I really want to try this. I really want to try it. My girlfriend's very much like, like, if we don't get this, I'll be really upset. And then she just can't eat any of it because she gets really full because she's tiny. But so I end up having to eat loads of it. And then one of my lovely friends she did a big girl in the kitchen.
C
Might need to date a Whopper dude. Next.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I need to get into chubby Jason.
C
Shout your bird though.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, big up Tegan. But yeah, unfortunately she's not a chubby lady that can eat loads. She's a very little Jewish lady and she can't put it away. Like, it would be helpful if she could.
C
And you're playing you're clean plate club. Excuse me. You, like, clean the plate?
Will Hughes
I do think it's important to do so when you can. Also, we have this, like. I don't know if this is the thing in America, but like a lot of restaurants when you're a kid, you go to. If you had a clean plate, you get free ice cream. What? Like when you like, only in Disney World, right? Okay. But like pubs and stuff had that. I went to a restaurant once. There's like a really prestigious restaurant in London and it's really fucking good. And I was really excited to be there. And I was with my manager and the chef. Chef. I knew one of the chefs there. And then the head chef came out at the end of the meal and was like, oh, I trust you liked the food. And it was James Bond. I trust you like the food was. He's a bit more like, I trust you like the food.
Unknown Speaker
Then I slept with my wife. That's Sean Connery.
C
Sean Connery as Borat.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Nice. We're getting. Yeah. Layers to that. This now. But yeah, basically I was like, oh, I kind of did that thing where you go like, obviously all the plates were completely clean and empty. And the guy was like, did you like the food? And I was like, no, we hated it.
C
Oh, nice, dude.
Will Hughes
And then he was like. I was like, this guy's got a sense of humor. And then I went, actually, as you can see, we've got clean plates. Does that mean we get free ice cream? The guys went, no. And I was like, just kidding. I thought that was like a really obvious joke. And then he walked back to the kitchen. I was just sat there like, oh, God, this guy thinks I must kill me.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I'm a dick.
Will Hughes
Spotted dick.
Unknown Speaker
Do you have a least favorite thing about working in food? Content creation.
Will Hughes
It's quite constant. That's the thing. I don't know if you guys have.
C
You're in a prison of your own creation.
Will Hughes
A little bit. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
What's the longest you ever gone without, like, posting some?
Will Hughes
Probably recently, like over Christmas. I've just.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, you've fallen off.
Will Hughes
Yeah. I've lost. I've I've lost quite a lot of followers.
C
Wait, really? Yeah, people unfollow because you're not bro.
Will Hughes
I checked it the other day because I noticed that I'd gone like down check one, so I'm on like, something. And three, and then I was on something. And two, I was like, what's happened here? Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve, loads of drop off people want you.
C
To put them, like to make something like, for them.
Will Hughes
I don't know what people's reasoning is, but who goes on their phone on Christmas Day or on like, no, no, not me on your phone. But like. And goes, now's the time. Jesus's birthday.
Unknown Speaker
Time to purge.
Will Hughes
I'm gonna unfollow this guy. Do you know what I mean? That was a bit strange, but yeah, weird.
Unknown Speaker
Okay, so does that bother you or you're like, I need to like, keep loads of followers.
Will Hughes
I don't give a.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
All right. There's, you know, I'm still able to.
C
Work with talk your bro. Pop your.
Unknown Speaker
How much do you have, like, locked? Do you just have, like, drafted?
Will Hughes
I usually try and do, like, have like a lot. If I do a proper good working week, week of I'm really, really hammering out, like, I do all my own editing still.
Unknown Speaker
Because it shows.
C
That's a compliment.
Will Hughes
No way. It works. I've got the system, like with the voiceovers and like.
C
Right.
Will Hughes
It's kind of like that's how it.
C
Yeah, that's the brand.
Will Hughes
That's exactly. It doesn't really work if anyone else, you know, does the editing. And I've tried it before, so if I do like a really good week, I'll probably get like 10 videos done, what, in a week?
C
So then how do you brick it at the end of the year?
Will Hughes
Year?
C
You just had nothing saved, nothing ready to go.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I just. I was like, oh, it's December, it's Christmas. I'm not gonna do anything.
C
You're like, I want to go on vacation.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
Like, yeah.
Will Hughes
Literally. And I was. Yeah. So I just.
Unknown Speaker
How much New York content we're gonna see after you've a lot home a lot.
Will Hughes
Like, I don't know, like a sound. A sandwich. I'm gonna do one on sandwiches.
C
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Of just like. You've tried.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just like. Yeah. And I imagine the chopped cheese will be pretty prominent. But we did also go to Mission sandwich social in Williamsburg.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, they're huge.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Really big. Really big.
Unknown Speaker
You do hot breast to Commodore or is it too dark in there?
Will Hughes
Oh, do you know what? I might. I probably will do like an honorable mention, but it was very dark and obviously I'm not the guy that goes out with a fucking ring light, so. Tegan, put your flash on. I'm gonna film this. Yeah, no, I didn't want to do that. But yeah, that actually we're gonna go back there on. On the last day for brunch because obviously. Okay. We're flying like in the evening to.
Unknown Speaker
Go during the day. So you get up daylight.
Will Hughes
Yeah, well, I mean, no, just to eat. Just because I really, really like it. But yeah, do one on pizza one on Chinatown.
C
What was the best pizza you had? Can you spoil it for. For your followers right now?
Will Hughes
I think I. I really, really liked Feeney.
C
Yeah. Really good Trump, guys.
Will Hughes
Guy. Is he. Yeah. Oh, no.
Unknown Speaker
Sorry.
Will Hughes
So annoying.
Unknown Speaker
I mean, this is allegedly.
C
I mean, you know what?
Will Hughes
It.
C
They're Italian, dude. They all are.
Will Hughes
It is.
Unknown Speaker
He's like. He's like a. He's like a finance tech guy.
Will Hughes
It is what I mean. Trump's funny anyway, isn't he? I mean, like, watch. Not like him big McDonald's guy, but he. He loves McDonald's. At least he's interesting to watch. I mean, Kia Starmer that we have over in the UK is boring.
C
As explain to us who that was.
Will Hughes
Good. I think the industry is obviously very good.
Unknown Speaker
How long you have to wait for that?
Will Hughes
That I didn't last year. I. I went last year on my last day and it was good. But we do.
Unknown Speaker
You didn't have to wait this year.
Will Hughes
This time around, we didn't go. Oh, because the queue was huge, bro.
Unknown Speaker
I tried. I was like in the neighborhood. It was like 2:30. I wanted to slice. I like walked by.
Will Hughes
I was like, yeah, it is.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
But again, huge. This is the other thing, right? So that I've been to New York four times. This is the fourth time. And the first time I came with school. The second time I was working. The third time I had food poisoning. This is the only time that I've done it properly.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
But I did get to go to the industry last year because it was on the last day and I went to Aces, the Detroit place.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Which was really nice. Paulie G's, I think is. Is good. Like the slice shop. I like that. You know, it's. But I thought, isn't he awesome guy, bro? He's a.
C
Have you got a picture? Prince Street Pizza, by the way. Also bad people.
Will Hughes
I interviewed Paulie G for. For mlb and we were doing everything about the Mets. And he's a massive Yankees fan. Fan. And he just kept on talking about the Yankees and I was like, bro, we can't.
Unknown Speaker
Yankees fan.
Will Hughes
We can't. Like, you know, we've talked. We briefed you at the beginning. Like, he looks a bit like Martin Scorsese as well. He's got, like, the big glasses.
Unknown Speaker
But I don't think he's a Trump guy, for the record. I think he's more like a NIMBY guy. Like, you know, okay, don't tell me how to run my restaurant. Or like, all these, all these, all this red tape and regulations to run a restaurant.
C
He's Italian.
Unknown Speaker
It's driving me out of business.
Will Hughes
I think that the slice that they do that has the sesame all the way underneath it.
C
Yes.
Will Hughes
The grandma slice. It's nice, it's good. Feeney, the lemon slice.
C
Oh, never heard that.
Will Hughes
The white base, lemon slice. I thought that was really, really good. But this is the thing.
Unknown Speaker
Gotta go to Chrissy's if you have time.
Will Hughes
Yeah, Tom as well, he. He's mates with the guys that do Chrissy's.
C
We gotta link you with Chrissy.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I'd love to, but. Is that a big Q spot as well for you? Yeah, well, this is the thing. I just get a pie baby queuing like, I. I can't. Oh, it's full pie spot, isn't it? Yeah, yeah.
C
Full pies, no slices has tick tock.
Unknown Speaker
Affected, like, eating out in restaurants in London the way it has in New York where you, like, meet up. You can't just spontaneously go to things like, you need to have a plan.
Will Hughes
Exactly what I wanted to talk about. So crisp pizza in London. There's a gaff called crisp pizza. I. I lived for five years in West London where nothing was really happening, and then moved to East London, like at the beginning of 2024. And there's a spot, a pub called the Chancellor's Arms by the river in Hammersmith. Okay. And this guy Carl has. He's perfected pizza. And I'm. When I say that, I mean, like, I mean British guy. Yeah, it's better than any pizza.
Unknown Speaker
Did you guys do Italy?
Will Hughes
I've been to Italy.
Unknown Speaker
No, no. Did the Brits do Italy the way you did Spain?
Will Hughes
I don't think we did, no. No, because you did China, though. Italy were running their own thing, weren't they? They had what's evidence, Fascism.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, you did, you did. China, the birthplace of pizza.
Will Hughes
Well, it's the birthplace. I'll give him the birthplace of dumplings and then noodles. Noodles and noodles and how the Italians have now decided that obviously that they invented that with. Well there was it. They're Italian tortellini and whatever. Anyway, the Italians. Yeah.
C
Stay with your chest.
Will Hughes
I've been, I've been to Italy, I've been to New York now. The worst pizza I've ever had is St. Louis style pizza. That's.
C
What is that style?
Will Hughes
It's got Provel on it. Which is like a weird cheese. No. Well it's. It's horrible. It's.
C
I works with certain toppings cuz Provel.
Will Hughes
Can suck my ass. That was the worst pizza I've ever had. This guy, this guy Carl in London. Yeah, it is by far the best pizza I have ever had in my life. Out of it. The industry was good. Good, like really good.
Unknown Speaker
You had scars right here.
Will Hughes
Yes, we went yesterday. I did that. Very nice as well.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
But when you guys are in London, really I will take Carls Portnoy. Don't know much about it.
C
Sure.
Will Hughes
But I know that he gave it like a really, really good review when he was in London.
C
Really?
Will Hughes
Really? I think he gave it like a.
C
Nine or something because he's so qualified to review pizza.
Will Hughes
He's had a lot of pizza, hasn't he?
C
So yeah.
Will Hughes
I mean, hey, I don't know the guy. Wow.
Unknown Speaker
So the best pizza.
C
This is the best pizza you've ever had?
Will Hughes
I've ever had. And it's not close.
C
Is it a New York style slice.
Will Hughes
So they call it London style. Yeah, I know, I know you think that it doesn't exist.
Unknown Speaker
It's wet and soggy.
Will Hughes
It's. Yeah.
C
Brown sauce.
Will Hughes
Yeah. It's basically just full of baked beans and cheddar. No, it's not bad. It's. It's sort of in between like a New York style pizza and a Neapolitan style pizza. And it's absolutely covered. Offered in parmesan. Like it's got loads and loads of palm on it but it's so crispy on the bottom. It's. I've never, I haven't. It's. It's so good. I can't, I can't speak higher enough of it. But with the tick tock thing, I know Carl a little bit. If I want to go there like I'll say, you know, can I, can I come? And he might say, you know, save me a pie if there's like a week left or. Yeah, but you go there and the.
Unknown Speaker
Queue is like parked so it's a big tick tock. Famous spot now yeah.
C
Proper restaurant or just like a. Oh.
Unknown Speaker
And is that true with a kitchen.
Will Hughes
Downstairs with just the. What they call.
C
Do you have pizza oven downstairs? Like, what is it?
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Is that true of a lot of places in London now where it's like, it blows up a tick tock and it's just impossible if you're just a regular guy just wanting a regular bite.
Will Hughes
I mean, there. There are places like that, like 95 of them. I wouldn't go anyway. Okay. But that place, it's hard to get reservations at some restaurants.
Unknown Speaker
Right.
Will Hughes
But the queue thing, people talk about queuing in London and like, how we're like really big cures.
Unknown Speaker
Well, you invented the word.
Will Hughes
Well, yeah, but we say line. Stupid. Stupidest word ever. Isn't it Q, U, E, U. I don't know.
Unknown Speaker
Great Scrabble word.
Will Hughes
How do you spell it? Yeah, yeah. Oh, it's a. It's a heavy hit.
C
A lot of points.
Will Hughes
A lot of points. But, yeah, I found in New York actually, the queuing thing, there's a lot more of that going on.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Everywhere. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
I think you're also. You're also here at a unique time. Right, right. Over the holidays. A lot of tourism.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
Hence my man right here.
Will Hughes
Yeah. But like, you know, having to queue for. You have to do it a little bit. It's becoming a worse thing. It's actually kind of worse with a lot of clothing stores. So in London, like, there's a huge queue for Stussy every time. Huge queue for Palace. Yeah. It's really weird. And then obviously, you know there's going to be a queue for supreme in New York.
Unknown Speaker
But like, like, who cues here besides at supreme and ald?
C
Well, ALD now does like a digital, bro. Yeah, Like a digital reservation.
Will Hughes
I don't care about ALD that much, but I wanted to go in because the store in London's paying, so I wanted to see the New York one. Like, they're nice in there, the clothes. It's a vibe.
Unknown Speaker
They got a car.
Will Hughes
What?
Unknown Speaker
I think there's a car in there.
Will Hughes
That's cool.
C
I don't think there's a car.
Will Hughes
They've got like a record thing downstairs in the London one. Like, it's a nice shot shop. You want to go in and just have a look around. Yeah, take it in.
C
Have a gander.
Will Hughes
Have a gander. Exactly. A little goosey gander. Wander down the street and there was no queue outside and we were like, oh, cool. And then you get to the door and there's some bloke he's like, oh, it's a 30 minute. Put the thing in. It's like, oh, we got an online thing now. We'll text you in 30 minutes, get.
C
A slice of upside pizza and come back.
Will Hughes
Text me in 30 minutes. I'm 30 minutes away. That's the problem.
C
Like gone in 30 minutes.
Will Hughes
Any.
Unknown Speaker
Have you been able to do any clothing shopping while you're here?
Will Hughes
I. Yeah, actually, I went into a place called Leisure Center.
C
Of course. Shout out. Frank the man.
Will Hughes
Love him.
C
He's the best.
Will Hughes
Really, really nice guy.
Unknown Speaker
You think he's British? Nah, dog, he's from Pittsburgh.
Will Hughes
Yeah, well, he's got. He's definitely got like.
Unknown Speaker
It's a big accent. That's a big accent.
Will Hughes
It's a transatlantic.
C
Yeah, he's from Baltimore.
Will Hughes
Is he?
C
No, he's British.
Will Hughes
Well, yeah, no, that's what I thought. But, you know, I don't know the guy very well. I just met him yesterday for like 20 minutes and we.
C
I bet you guys got along great swimmingly.
Will Hughes
He was lovely. And I think a few of my mates.
C
Leisure center.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Also that's really funny because we were talking about how that's like such a thing in the uk. Like, leisure center is like.
Unknown Speaker
What does it mean?
Will Hughes
It's. No, it's like a leisure center.
Unknown Speaker
That's a pleasure center.
Will Hughes
It's like, like, we're talking like little towns in the middle of nowhere. There'll be like a leisure. Leisure center and it will have like a swimming pool that stinks. And you'll get Veruca's in and like communal showers and then maybe like a little skate park outside it. Like that is. Yeah, or like. And like. And like football. Like socce.
C
It's a park. You just. It's a park.
Will Hughes
No, it's. It's a huge building.
Unknown Speaker
It's like a little community center. It's like what Rishi was trying to remodel in Industry Season 3.
Will Hughes
No, that was a cricket pavilion.
C
Yeah, yeah, that was a pavilion for sure.
Unknown Speaker
No spoilers. I don't know.
Will Hughes
Oh, sorry.
Unknown Speaker
I don't. Caught up on. On a B. I'm.
Will Hughes
I'm up. I'm up to date with. With, with industry. I think that's one of the better TV shows.
C
Better. The best.
Unknown Speaker
Number one.
Will Hughes
It's great.
Unknown Speaker
Is it over in the UK yet or is it still going? Knowing.
Will Hughes
Yeah, no, it's finished.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
Season three is finished. They're doing season four, I think.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
Which. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, is that out here?
C
No, no, no, no. Those aren't guys, though.
Will Hughes
Okay. So you.
C
They're writing it right now.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
They're English, aren't they? Yeah. Yeah.
C
Mick and Con.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
So you hit Leisure Center?
Will Hughes
Yeah, Leisure center was cool.
C
Did you buy anything? Like, see any gp?
Will Hughes
I didn't. The people I was with bought some stuff, but there wasn't anything that I was like.
Unknown Speaker
You went to a pickle and bookstore next to one of the. No, we didn't go in.
Will Hughes
We just walked past it, which is.
Unknown Speaker
But right next. Next door is one of the best stores in New York City.
Will Hughes
Colbo didn't go there.
C
Good coffee, too.
Will Hughes
Oh, no, we did go there. We did go to Colbo. Yeah. And some. We got a coffee, but then I was like, there was this shirt, and I was like, oh, that's really, really nice. It was 370.
C
I mean, it was what you pay for there, dude.
Unknown Speaker
Fit shirt.
Will Hughes
It was nice. No, it wasn't.
Unknown Speaker
That was 185.
Will Hughes
The red one. Yeah, that was fire.
C
Yeah. Real quick. Right now, as a Brit.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
Is Stone island whack?
Will Hughes
I mean, it's. Stone island now is, I think, massive, so. Isn't Stone Island Italian, though?
C
Yeah, but I'm just saying. But it's, you know, it's.
Will Hughes
It's too terrorist culture, too associated with. With terrorist culture and, like, chavs, basically. So, like, I wouldn't really. I would probably wear, like. I'd wear Stone island because some of the stuff they make is really, really nice. It's a bit like CP as well. Like, I've recently bought a cp.
C
We're Gogglesman, personally.
Will Hughes
You are Gogglesman. Okay. Yeah. I. I bought that big, big green puffer. The CP1.
C
Yeah, banger.
Will Hughes
The really, really green one.
C
Like an enormous you and, like, 100.
Unknown Speaker
Other guys on this slime one.
Will Hughes
I haven't seen anyone else on Instagram. I'm very unique.
C
Wait, Oliver, Slime? Like, is it like slime or olive?
Will Hughes
It's like slime green.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Will Hughes
The really, really good. Is that a big thing in the U.S. no.
C
I saw a bunch of dudes. Maybe. I'm thinking of another jacket possibly.
Will Hughes
Anyway, I look like a big P wearing it, and I quite like that. I got that at the beginning of last year.
C
But P means a P. Slang is a dollar. Like a. A dollar P. It is, but I.
Will Hughes
Mean, like the vegetable.
C
No, no, I. I know. I'm just asking you to clarify something.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So. Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, like, someone would say, like, that it was. If someone's like, oh, it was Peas. That would be. It was really expensive, but I'm quite posh, so I probably wouldn't say, oh, it was peas.
C
Right.
Will Hughes
Because that's rich. That would really sound like I was talking about vegetables.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, it was Burt's bees. Cocky rhyme, baby.
Will Hughes
I just. My favorite cocky rhyming slang is. Is Berkshire Hunt. What is cunt? Yeah, but it's funny because it sounds like it'd be quite posh. And my dad also. Berkshire Hunt gets shortened to Burke, which I think's really funny to. Cause I'll go, oh, you, Burke. Like, if someone's been a Burke.
C
Oh, I like that.
Will Hughes
My dad's been calling me a Burke since I was about three.
Unknown Speaker
Oh.
Will Hughes
But obviously, you know, that means my father has been calling me a. Since I was about three. So, yeah, I am circumcised. I want truth. Yeah, I think he might be.
C
I like that, Burt. Yo, that's a good one. That. For the audience to use to casually, like, diss someone that wouldn't know in America, call them a bird. Burke.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Burke's good also, because it kind of sounds like a little bit like, oh, you, Burke. But also you can be. Oh, you.
C
Well, it's like jerk, but yeah.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly.
Unknown Speaker
Is. Is supreme on the rise in London?
Will Hughes
Supreme. I mean, I think Supreme's always been. I mean, it definitely had its heyday in, like, 20. I think it's like 2012-20.
Unknown Speaker
Like, and they got ruined by the audience.
Will Hughes
Yeah, people queuing again, the queues. The problem, people camping for it. Resale culture, I think Supreme. Yeah, Resale culture's died now, but thank God with. With. Especially with, like, supreme and Palace. I remember used. I used to be able to buy, like, like, a Palace T shirt for whatever, like, 35 quid, and then sell it for, like, 80. Like, a year and a half later.
C
You're a reseller.
Will Hughes
Well, not, like, without flipping it, like a big reseller, but, like, if I. So when I. Before I went to uni, so before I was, like, 18, like, from probably from, like, the age of, like, 16 to 18, like, I'd occasionally buy, like, something from palace or never really anything from supreme because it was really hard to get. And I don't think the website was very good back then. But then I go to uni and then, like, if I needed, like, money to buy food or go out or something, I'd be like, oh, I've got this Palace.
C
Shout out, love, shout out, palacha. Great friends.
Will Hughes
I. I think I once tried to. I went to a Palace Stellar event. And I once tried to. They had a collab.
C
They did a collab.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Yeah. That was the. I think it was the first one on the saga. I can't remember. It was the second one, I think. And I went to the Blue Posts, which is that pub in Soho that like all the. All the. Like. I think it's like all the supreme and the palace lot or drink out or whatever. And I think I was really. And I went up to Live Tangeu and was like, I can get Tyson Fury wearing Palace for. Because I know Tyson Fury.
Unknown Speaker
Could you have what?
Will Hughes
So the box. So I used to do the. I was working quite closely with, like, this boxing company and then. Okay, I ended up interviewing you boys.
Unknown Speaker
With the Gypsy King.
Will Hughes
Well, no, no. But I was gonna go up to Morecambe to interview him, and then it didn't happen.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
But that week that I went to that. I was. I was meant to do it. So I very confidently went over and then I woke up the next day and I. I. I think I'd asked him to message me. He messaged me on Instagram. I had this message. It was like, yo, it's. It's Lev Pallets. And I was like, oh, yeah, I probably can't do that. Actually. Like, felt like a massive penis, but.
Unknown Speaker
It felt like a pee.
C
Like a burp.
Will Hughes
Felt like a total Burke. Felt like a pushing P. But no Supreme. I think in.
Unknown Speaker
I just wanted. Because, like, I don't know if now that the. The hordes have moved on, if now it's kind of like safer again for, you know, guys of a certain frequency to start wearing it again.
Will Hughes
It's still hard to. I mean, I. I've started wearing quite a bit more supreme because I think that a lot. Especially the last. Last autumn winter stuff that. Well, this is from that, isn't it? But they. The last autumn winter stuff that they put out. I thought a lot of it was really, really nice. There was that. They don't miss that leather shot one that. With the fur collar shot.
Unknown Speaker
Nyc.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that one was.
C
It was a good collab every year. Yeah.
Will Hughes
Really, really nice. I mean, I think. And also the, like that puffer that I got, the one I was wearing.
Unknown Speaker
If you have a Black Planet, what's that? No, I'm kidding.
Will Hughes
What is that?
Unknown Speaker
Public Enemy. Supreme Collaboration.
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah.
C
No, I like Fear of a British Planet.
Unknown Speaker
See you wearing that.
C
Let's try.
Will Hughes
You know what?
Unknown Speaker
We're not going back.
Will Hughes
I think sometimes the supreme collabs that they do, it's Like, I'll be like, oh, that's really cool. But I don't know the reference. The reference. So I won't.
Unknown Speaker
Like, if it's like, do you then research the reference?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I mean, I do, but then if I don't already know it, I kind of feel like I shouldn't buy this because this isn't really for me. Yeah, but the Frank for Rosetto, the, like, comic book, the Conan the Barbarian illustrator.
C
Oh, the one they just did.
Will Hughes
Oh, my God, that jacket all over print. Yeah, yeah, the jacket and the trousers. Because I like Skyrim. I'm into fantasy shit, mainly. Skyrim.
C
Not like, that's a video game.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it is the video.
C
We're not. We're not gamers.
Will Hughes
Yeah, but you know how this is the podcast.
Unknown Speaker
Skyrim's the game.
C
Oh, you mean this is the only podcast that matters? That's the only video game?
Unknown Speaker
Skyrim is the. Skyrim is the throwing fits of Gam.
Will Hughes
Yeah, if you want to call it that. That's what it is. Like, that.
Unknown Speaker
I mean, I know what Skyrim is.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it's Skyrim for me. It was, like, formative. Like, the best game I ever played as a kid. I'm not even a gamer, but, like, I play that game probably, like, right, once a year, I've got a fucking switch. I play it on the flight. Like, I'm obsessed with it. And I just thought that that jacket was sick because it looked like something out of Skyrim.
Unknown Speaker
How much money do you spend on clothing?
Will Hughes
Probably quite a bit too much. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
And is it all kind of in, like, the CP Supreme?
Will Hughes
I've literally got one cp, but it. And I like Supreme. I think palace have been good the last few years as well. I think that they've put out some.
C
Does your audience, like, you think there's a portion of them that find you or with you because of your swag?
Will Hughes
I probably. I think that there's definitely a few people that, like, message me and say, like, you know, where did you. Where did you get that id? Yeah. Yeah.
C
Id. Id.
Unknown Speaker
What's that shirt that says Noah on it?
C
How many.
Unknown Speaker
How many hats do you own?
Will Hughes
Loads.
Unknown Speaker
Give us a number.
Will Hughes
Cat caps. Six or something.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
C
That's so many.
Unknown Speaker
And then what about other. Do you find yourself?
Will Hughes
Like, I do kind of collect them, though. Like, if I see a cap that I think's cool, and then I'll buy it, and then I'll. I'll, like, start hating the way it fits, and then I don't end up.
Unknown Speaker
Wearing it, but you wear them in like, you wear them like high up and like kind of down low on your face. Right.
Will Hughes
Different. Different caps fit different ways, you know, like.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah, brother.
Will Hughes
Yeah. You know, like it's.
Unknown Speaker
And do you find yourself delving into like more esoteric avant garde headwear? Like the trapper hat that Larry saw you at.
Will Hughes
Very much so. Milo Black. No, from London. He. He's got this hat that he's been. He's put out a few of and it's like. It's a trapper hat, but it's like fluffy and like, it's got like the flaps, but you can like poke them up.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Do you know the one I mean, I've seen.
Unknown Speaker
I think I've seen what you were.
C
Wearing literally last night.
Will Hughes
Yeah, that. No, not that one. The Tr. The trapper one that I was. Were in was the Thames one.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
This one's like very out there and like fluffy.
Unknown Speaker
How many balaclavas do you own?
Will Hughes
Two. Three, actually.
C
Road man.
Will Hughes
You gotta get.
Unknown Speaker
You gotta get yourself a true New York City shiesty while you're here.
Will Hughes
Oh, what like a.
C
It's just about. It's a ball. Clever. Which would open right?
Will Hughes
Oh, yeah.
Unknown Speaker
One hole.
Will Hughes
One hole. I've seen supreme do them quite. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've got a lot of. Lot of headwear because I'm going gray.
Unknown Speaker
Really.
Will Hughes
Not going bald, which is nice. Nice. But going very, very gray. So I don't.
Unknown Speaker
Because you're stressed with all these. No low stress recipes.
Will Hughes
Recipes. Not just recipes. Yeah, but no, it's all these high intensity podcasts I'm doing.
Unknown Speaker
And what's been your most popular recipe you've ever put out?
Will Hughes
Steak. Steak and chips. Yeah. Really? Fries? Yeah, they stay. Because I think the nicest. The nicest meals are just like one good protein, one good carb, and maybe like a salad, you know what I mean? And a source. And I did, I did one like, I mean, it was. It was maybe like two years ago now and it was just like a huge coat. The birth. I think you'd call that like a prime rib maybe. And it's fatty. Yeah, Proper whopper. Like really, really big one. And I just did that with like a peppercorn sauce and freezer, freezer fries because I didn't want to make my.
Unknown Speaker
Own, but freezer chips.
C
Freezer chips, that was a viral movie.
Unknown Speaker
Crisps.
Will Hughes
Yeah, that one did. Yeah, that one banged. And also the, the thing that was really.
Unknown Speaker
And how do you. Is it by views, like they're taking over the success of a. Of a recipe, I guess.
Will Hughes
So I don't have a lot of videos that have gone, like, viral. Okay. I think there's probably been like, four proper. Really proper.
C
Like a million.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Only four probably. Like, it's weird. I've got. I get ones that do really, really well, but they don't really touch a million.
C
You're consistent.
Will Hughes
Yeah, Yeah. I mean, I post, but this. This is the other thing. It's like, I used to cook stuff that was like, oh, I'm trying to do a recipe that will do well on the Internet, right? Got really bored of cooking and then was like, I'm gonna cook my lunch every day and my dinner every day. I'm gonna film it and I'm gonna fucking make that into silly little videos. And some of them will bang and some of them won't bang. And it will keep me consistent, but it also won't make me hate cooking, right? Because what. Obviously, what would be the point in doing it if I didn't enjoy it anymore? And I did try and do that where I'd, like, cook four video. Like, cook four recipes in a day and, like, shoot all day. And it just. I stopped finding it fun for a bit. And I've been doing it for, like, five years now, I guess. But I think the way that I've got, the routine that I've got myself into now, it's kind of like that feels natural, right? And being able to do travel stuff as well, that's really fun because obviously everyone's to. Everyone wants to feel a little bit like Anthony Bourdain sometimes times.
Unknown Speaker
Well, if steak does really well, typically, what's like something you're always excited to put out, but it bricks all of.
Will Hughes
It, so much of it genuinely, like. Like, I. You know, I don't know, like, sometimes I'll just. I'll just like, do, like, slightly jazzed up, like ramen noodles, like, packet ramen, I always think. Because that's. That's a sick thing to be able to like. I don't make content for. I don't make, like, content recipe videos for. It's meant to be stuff that you can make, right? Do you know what I mean?
C
Like, that recipes.
Will Hughes
I'm not a chef. I've not trained in cooking. I just cook because I like cooking. So it's all kind of just like, if I can make it, then anyone else can fucking make it. And, like, sometimes I'll make something that could probably be, like, restaurant standard. Other times I'll make something that restaurant people might look at and go, what the fuck is that? But I don't really give a shit.
Unknown Speaker
Like, it's peanut butter udon.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that.
Unknown Speaker
Honestly, that looks delicious.
Will Hughes
That recipe I posted fairly recently had been sat in my drafts for, like, I don't know, four months. Because I was like, that one's not gonna do very well. I'll just wait and post a better one. And post a better one.
Unknown Speaker
How to do it?
Will Hughes
Not very well.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
But delicious. Like, literally, peanut butter soy sauce, maybe like some Chinese vinegar, chili oil, bit of water. Noodles done.
C
Peanut noodles, Classic.
Will Hughes
Yeah. It's easy. Delicious kimchi on top of it. Like, that's it. That's. That's like. That's a meal. That's lunch. That's good. Sp on there.
Unknown Speaker
Spunions.
Will Hughes
Maybe. I don't know.
Unknown Speaker
You know your most famous followers, do you? No, we don't.
C
No, we're asking you.
Will Hughes
Oh, I don't know. Maybe, like, Niall Horan follows me from One Direction.
Unknown Speaker
Oh.
Will Hughes
Which is pretty cool. You guys do not. You don't know Davina McCool, do you?
Unknown Speaker
No.
Will Hughes
She hosts Big Brother in the UK. Or used to host Big Brother in the UK.
C
Dylan House.
Will Hughes
House Villainous. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Does Brooklyn Beckham follow you? Noted. Chef Brooklyn Beckham.
Will Hughes
I don't think he's put out hot sauces.
C
Right. That was his whole thing.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I don't think he's, like, a chef influencer guy.
Will Hughes
I don't think I've been lucky enough for Brooklyn Beckham to grace me with his. His follow. But, yeah, no, I. I don't really know.
Unknown Speaker
Besides Nepo babies becoming food content creators.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
And just deeming themselves chefs a la Brooke. Brooklyn, are there any trends in the food world that you would love to see Absolutely. Come to a screeching halt?
Will Hughes
Let me see if I wrote anything in my notes page. Oh, I did. I did prepare.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, I hope you're ready for the Mount Rushmore soups.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I am ready for that. I didn't know you're gonna pose it like that, but that does seem the appropriate way to oppose it, if you.
C
Even know what Mount Rushmore is.
Will Hughes
Yeah, exactly.
C
That's what I mean.
Unknown Speaker
In America, it's like the Stonehenge.
Will Hughes
Does it exist? Exist?
Unknown Speaker
I think so.
C
Wait, are you asking if Mount Rushmore.
Will Hughes
No, that is actually. They are carved into the stone. Yeah.
C
On stolen land.
Will Hughes
I thought it was, like, Richie Rich. I thought it was, like, in that film. And it wasn't a real thing.
C
Are you kidding? No, it's.
Will Hughes
It's for real. I didn't, I didn't know it was a real thing, but have you ever.
Unknown Speaker
Seen it zoomed out? It's just like that's it. And it's kind of pathetic looking, to be honest.
C
What, bro?
Will Hughes
Be there.
C
It's iconic, dude.
Will Hughes
There was one food trend that made me like really, really, really angry. And it was when. And it was a big thing in America. And actually I see a lot of. Do you know that chef reacts guy on Tick Tock? He's like a American guy. He's a chef.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, chef reacts.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So chef re Epstein. Yeah. You did that one earlier. That was a good one. Yeah. He has slagged off this a lot. But it's when. And I think it's a lot of like. Is it. Is white collar mum the right phrase?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, like suburban trad wife.
Will Hughes
They would put like pasta and stock, like chicken stock and like queso dip and like bits of like ready cooked bacon or chicken or whatever. And they'd bake the pasta in like a tray.
C
But there was this, there was this casserole kind of.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Like pasta a la casserole. Which doesn't sound good at all, does it?
C
But well, baked ziti is good.
Will Hughes
No, baked ziti is good. But this is like they do in.
Unknown Speaker
A way that's like crazy, canned, disgusting.
Will Hughes
You know, all gone in. And there was a. There was a.
C
Because it's like a. You just, it's one. You just put all the ingredients together, you just cook it and then you serve your family.
Will Hughes
Exactly. And I'm not like against like crock pot cooking, but this was just stupid.
Unknown Speaker
Do you need a one pan, Drake.
Will Hughes
Nice. There was a.
Unknown Speaker
You're a fellow fan of combination.
Will Hughes
No combination.
C
Combination.
Will Hughes
I think that's one of the funniest things. Things he's said easily. Yeah. Because he's.
Unknown Speaker
And he said a bunch of funny things.
Will Hughes
He's. Yeah, I mean, he's, he's, he's come out with some stuff. But that was, that was, that was my personal favorite because it also gave me a good excuse to go do a good Jamaican accent.
C
Right. Patois.
Will Hughes
A little patois.
C
Combination.
Will Hughes
Combination. Should we carry on with that?
Unknown Speaker
We'll stop there.
Will Hughes
Do another one.
Unknown Speaker
Combination.
Will Hughes
That was better.
C
Well, madness and badness. Madness and badness combination.
Unknown Speaker
But okay, so these white collar suburban stay at home.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
There was a trend trad wife moms. I saw what they had a butt. They had a bunt cake mold. And then she put steak, then chicken, then steak on top of It.
Will Hughes
And just like, that is the kind of. That pisses me off. The weirdest thing was when that made its way over to the UK and people were baking, like, feta with pasta and water and like, tomato.
Unknown Speaker
But that was a viral.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it was hugely viral. Like a bait fat thing.
Unknown Speaker
I made it. I made it.
C
Like, was it good?
Unknown Speaker
Was it good?
Will Hughes
Was it good? That annoyed me. And I'm someone that likes the idea of, like, cutting corners and keeping it simple. Yeah. But that just seeing every. And their mum being like, oh, I'm making the viral feta pasta. I was just there, just jabbing myself in the eyes, like, no, thanks. Yeah, that one can go.
Unknown Speaker
But okay. Is there anything you want to see more of collaboration?
Will Hughes
Oh, I'll tell you actually one thing that I have noticed. Start only fans. Girls have started doing cooking stuff in a big way and it's obviously, like, sexy. No. No. Well, maybe naked on their only fans. I don't know. But they've started using only fans to, like, using like, cooking videos and Instagram to, like, promote their only fans. They'll be like, wearing skimpy outfits, cooking stuff. And I'm a bit like, that needs to.
Unknown Speaker
That's probably nobody more.
Will Hughes
No, I. I don't know about that. I think that's a bit. I'm not sure of the. The ethics of that. There are children on Instagram, you know, they should.
Unknown Speaker
Is it safe with, like, splattering oil and.
Will Hughes
Well, exactly, there's that.
Unknown Speaker
You gotta wear the apron.
Will Hughes
Be wearing aprons, gloves, protective eye gear.
Unknown Speaker
You should start wearing the apron with a little David dick.
Will Hughes
I could circumcise the circumcised spotted dick. Yeah, like. Yeah, yeah. I've just remember we started this podcast talking about my circumcised penis for like 17 minutes.
C
Wait, David, I think is uncircumcised.
Unknown Speaker
You're right, he is.
Will Hughes
David will have been.
C
He would have.
Will Hughes
Uncircumcised.
C
That's a little uncircumcised.
Unknown Speaker
Boy, before they use soap.
Will Hughes
Tiny toddler. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Okay, now the question we've all been waiting for.
C
Let's go, baby.
Unknown Speaker
What's on your Mount Rushmore soups.
C
So this is top four unranked.
Will Hughes
It's four. Yeah.
C
Unranked.
Will Hughes
Unranked. Oh, okay. Just like classic Far.
Unknown Speaker
It counts.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Tonkotsu Ramen.
C
That's on a soup.
Unknown Speaker
That doesn't count.
Will Hughes
Count. Really?
Unknown Speaker
It's soupy. But it's not.
C
No, it's So I think fuzz is a soup and ramen. Ramen is I mean, it's debatable. Okay.
Will Hughes
Okay, well, I'll that one off then. I like leak and potato.
C
Oh, classic.
Will Hughes
That's a real favorite of mine. I really, really, really like just a classic tomato. Cream of tomato though, not tomato and basil. Tomato and basil is good. But cream of tomato with a grilled.
Unknown Speaker
Cheese or just on its own?
Will Hughes
Always with a grilled cheese, if you can.
Unknown Speaker
With a cheesy toast.
Will Hughes
With a cheesy toast, exactly. Yeah. In the uk, like grilled cheese, that's really become of. That's a funny thing actually. You know, transatlantic thing. Like cooking a grilled cheese in a pan in butter, flipping over, pressing it down like how you guys do over here. That was never really like a. A thing so much in the uk.
C
How do you make.
Will Hughes
Just use a toasty, like a press. Both good, you know, but one of them probably a bit worse for you. Yeah. The one with butter but slightly more delicious.
Unknown Speaker
Or butter is life.
Will Hughes
Yeah, that, that, that definitely is that three. That's three. Fourth one I made a salariac soup.
C
The is salari.
Will Hughes
I don't know if it's got a different name.
Unknown Speaker
No, no, it's just a shitty looking vegetable.
Will Hughes
It looks.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
Will Hughes
Salc soup. I made a.
Unknown Speaker
It looks like a rock.
Will Hughes
Like a white rock with like, you know, in cocaine. You know, the first series of True Detectives. You know, the big murderer guy that had a face.
Unknown Speaker
The yellow king.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah.
C
But you want to make flowers. You want to make flowers in my belly.
Will Hughes
She's in everything now.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, that's right. She is.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah. She's like literally like one of the. She was in Handmaid's Tale and all that. Anyway, that celeriac looks that you were.
C
Talking about, the spaghetti monster.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Looks like his base because it's kind of like smooth on top and then it's like rim on the bottom. Yeah.
C
But you made the soup and it banked.
Will Hughes
It's so delicious. So it takes a while to peel it. So I think people don't use it so much at home, but it's really, really good. And that with just like some garlic, some celery and maybe a bit of potato as well. And then. Yeah, that and maybe some. Some walnuts and bacon on top. That's. That was.
C
That's definitely no mention of foc Fos franchise soup.
Will Hughes
Overrated. I like it. I like it, but it's overrated.
Unknown Speaker
It's French. It's French.
Will Hughes
It's French. Everything French is.
C
That is the best soup, do you think? 100.
Will Hughes
Okay.
C
If I had to. If I.
Unknown Speaker
Do you think you haven't had the right one or you think they're all.
Will Hughes
Maybe I haven't had the right one. To be fair, I went to Paris for the first time a couple of months ago, and the French onion soup we had was so bad, it just.
Unknown Speaker
Onion soup over there.
Will Hughes
Yeah, no, we went. Yeah, exactly. Good point. But we went to the wrong place. Place I've not had a good one, to be fair. But at the same time, everyone does.
Unknown Speaker
Well, Lauren, French training soup is the one thing that Lawrence knows how to make.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Really?
C
During the pandemic, that was my thing.
Will Hughes
How many frontion soups did you make?
C
Well, I would batch them.
Will Hughes
Oh.
C
I would make them for. We would. We were having people over. Oh, don't tell me. I don't know. What. Statute of limitations on the breaking quarantine. No.
Unknown Speaker
Bad boy.
Will Hughes
No.
C
Yeah, it's. I love it, dude.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Yeah. I. It. In theory, it's delicious.
Unknown Speaker
But you should get one in French.
Will Hughes
I'm pretty anti French.
Unknown Speaker
Except French.
Will Hughes
They didn't have one at French. Oh, oh, wait.
C
Did you ask Odon.
Unknown Speaker
You asked if they had French onion soup and, like. No, but the Odon down the W does the.
Will Hughes
No. Yeah, they didn't have it.
C
Best in the city.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Okay.
Unknown Speaker
Let me ask you this. You've mentioned wifey, your bird, your misses a few times. What's the meal? What's the first meal you ever made for her?
Will Hughes
I think it was a chicken katsu curry.
Unknown Speaker
How did it go over when I was in. Were you making gassy sounds very gaseous, you know.
Will Hughes
No, it was. It was okay. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
It was fine, like.
Unknown Speaker
All right. Did you like it?
Will Hughes
Yeah, well, I'm still with her six and a half years later, so I think it's done. All right. Actually, it wasn't that. It was a really weird sandwich, but then that. That was. That was the first thing I made her. But that was when she was, like, drunk and she turned up at my house and she was like, I need a sandwich. And it had.
Unknown Speaker
It was like, I need some spotted dick and some sandwich.
C
A foodie call a food.
Unknown Speaker
Nice.
Will Hughes
Now that's good. That's why they pay you the big.
C
I still got it.
Will Hughes
But yeah, katsu curry was the first, like, proper thing. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
What was the first thing she made you? Did it suck?
C
Is she nice with it?
Will Hughes
She does cook now. She.
Unknown Speaker
Because of you.
Will Hughes
She did now? Yeah. She didn't cook so much when we got together the first time, but I didn't cook so much. I, I didn't cook as much as I cook now when we first got together. But yeah, I think she made me like packet tortellini with tomato sauce.
Unknown Speaker
It wasn't good, did it? To pretend it was good. Yeah, of course to get into that.
Will Hughes
To be fair, I don't really think I had to give her the. This is amazing because she knew it all came out of a packet so it was okay. But she is actually a really good.
C
We stand a self aware queen.
Will Hughes
Yeah, she does good roast potatoes now. Oh. So like proper crispy. Where do you guys stand on a roast? Like an English roast?
Unknown Speaker
I had it on a. I had a Sunday roast at a proper pub club when I was dating a girl in wooden London and it was just like the whole experience was amazing.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
The food itself.
C
That'S pretty one all pomp and circumstance, bro. That is overrated.
Unknown Speaker
It's just like very brown and beige. Hey, beige is beautiful.
Will Hughes
But like spot I'll take. When you're in London, there's a spot in Hackney. Hackney Church Bruco. It's called. It's called Lagom. If you thought it was boring, then it definitely wasn't. The right place was.
Unknown Speaker
No, no, the place was great. But the.
Will Hughes
Was it a brewery?
Unknown Speaker
It was like a.
Will Hughes
Was it this one? This one's literally like a brewery under an arch and. Okay.
Unknown Speaker
No, no.
Will Hughes
The guy that cooks there is unbelievably good at cooking. Like he's. He, he does like Koji marinated prime rib, like, like wing cap smoked chicken. I think he's been in the US and done like barbecue stuff. But his roast is like almost like a barbecue roasted roast.
C
Now you're talking about language.
Will Hughes
Standard roast cooked by someone's mum isn't usually going to be great. Right. But it's the nostalgia I think for most people.
Unknown Speaker
But yeah, and it's a setting.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Pub Sunday.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah. But a good, A good roast, great. But I don't want just a boring one. I want like a salsa matcha in the. Right on the side, you know, like some horseradish ranch, something like that. That's, that's what he does and it's good. Yeah, he's on ranch.
Unknown Speaker
Oh yeah.
Will Hughes
He's on ranch in a big way.
Unknown Speaker
Why do you become a ranch importer and then just make it. That's how you make your millions.
Will Hughes
That would actually. Yeah, well I might do that.
C
A ranch dealer.
Will Hughes
A ranch dealer. But if.
C
Call the guy, I need a bottle.
Will Hughes
If anyone looks back at this and they know that you told me that you might.
Unknown Speaker
You can have it.
C
I don't care.
Unknown Speaker
It's fine.
Will Hughes
Sick. Okay, I'll do that. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
How much money do you make?
Will Hughes
About £8 million an hour.
Unknown Speaker
How's the exchange rate these days?
Will Hughes
I don't know how the American dollar is.
Unknown Speaker
We make it off. What, like. Like brand partnerships and like.
Will Hughes
Yeah, okay. Yeah, yeah.
Unknown Speaker
What do you like to spend your harder money on?
Will Hughes
Mostly food and clothes. Yeah. And beers.
Unknown Speaker
What are your top. What's your Mount Rushmore beers.
Will Hughes
Mount Rushmore. I like Super Bok, which is a Portuguese lager. Okay. Miller High Life. The champagne of beers might be in there now. I love.
C
I love that late edition.
Will Hughes
It's. It's good. I.
Unknown Speaker
The bottle.
Will Hughes
This. I don't like drinking beer out the bottle usually, but that is really. Yeah, I like it in a pint.
C
Okay.
Will Hughes
That's right.
C
I always prefer a bottled beer. I think is the. Is the best one.
Will Hughes
To a can. Yeah.
C
No, to. And also to a pint.
Will Hughes
Okay. Right, okay.
C
Well, not for a Guinness, but anything else.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Okay. That's fair.
Unknown Speaker
Depends on the beer.
Will Hughes
I like. Normally, I wouldn't go for a bottle or a can, but I prefer a.
Unknown Speaker
Bottle of Budweiser over a pint of Budweiser.
C
I Saporo. I want the can.
Will Hughes
I want the Silver Bullet Budweiser.
C
The king of beers.
Will Hughes
Really? So much.
Unknown Speaker
Why? Because it's.
Will Hughes
Because it's. It's grim.
Unknown Speaker
Is it expensive?
Will Hughes
It's like Budweiser is an import to American beers what Carling is to English beers, which is bad.
Unknown Speaker
So is Carling delicious? We love Budweiser. Well, we love Orient.
Will Hughes
Well, it's the most popular one, but it's okay.
Unknown Speaker
All right, so we got Super Bach, Miller High Life.
Will Hughes
I like Mahu, which is like a Spanish beer.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Will Hughes
That's quite nice.
Unknown Speaker
The only Spanish beer.
Will Hughes
Australia is a good beer. I like Australia. Oh, Deputy. The Barbados beer. My girlfriend lived in Barbados for, like, four years, so I've been over there a few times, and that I. That's definitely, like, a contest.
C
A cool name. Deputy.
Will Hughes
Dude. Yo.
C
Deputize me.
Will Hughes
Yeah, it's. It's.
C
Yo, wench. I'm deputized.
Will Hughes
I'm gonna try that next time. But it's. It's very. Very much like a context beer, though, as well. Because, like, I think you got to be. You have to be there. You have to be sat on the beach and have a cold. Deputy.
C
So much of the right beer is context.
Unknown Speaker
Most times just like, sex. Pizza.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
What was the other one?
Will Hughes
Guinness.
Unknown Speaker
Guinness.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Bad Guinness is good. Guinness.
Unknown Speaker
Real quick. What's the. For all the broke boys listening. What's the ultimate meal a broke boy can make at home? Is it judged up?
Will Hughes
Probably. It's probably peanut Peanut noodles. Dude, that place I went yesterday, I believe you. No, the place I went yesterday, the peanut noodles there were the best peanut noodles I've ever had in my life.
Unknown Speaker
The dim sum spot.
Will Hughes
Yeah. Unreal. But yeah. Peanut noodles like peanut butter soy sauce. Yeah. Easy, easy. Yeah, easy like that's like what I don't. I don't know about also do that.
Unknown Speaker
Make the. Using the same. Just make it. That's also just a delicious salad dressing.
Will Hughes
Yeah, that's true. Yeah. I mean yeah, you could have a salad. You just get one let wedge salad. That's a weird thing in the US isn't it? Oh, we don't have that in the uk.
Unknown Speaker
You don't iceberg. You don't.
C
Blue cheese, bacon.
Will Hughes
Yeah. But it's just one huge bacon of.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
C
Steakhouse starter.
Will Hughes
Yeah, yeah, we did try that.
Unknown Speaker
You should go to Bernie's next time you're here. Where's that near you? Near where you're staying?
Will Hughes
Okay.
Unknown Speaker
In Greenpoint. Water. Yeah. We were proper American.
Will Hughes
We were going to go to Peter Luger, but we looked at the prices. It was 200 and something dollars for us, cash only. Who the is walking in there with?
C
Well, everyone. Cuz everyone knows.
Will Hughes
No, okay, no, I get that. But also like that's another thing that's quite.
Unknown Speaker
They do delivery. You can. You can get a burger on delivery from there.
C
Only at lunch.
Unknown Speaker
At dinner too.
C
They changed. Yeah.
Will Hughes
Is it good?
C
Yeah, it's very good.
Will Hughes
Okay, so.
C
But it's a thick patty.
Will Hughes
Should we have gone?
Unknown Speaker
Yes, next time.
Will Hughes
Where does Red Hook Tavern fall?
C
Oh, up there.
Will Hughes
It's really good.
Unknown Speaker
It's far away though. That's one of the place that's four miles away.
C
That's a destination spot. Like you're going there to go there, I've been told.
Will Hughes
Have you had Hamburger America? Of course.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Very good.
Unknown Speaker
If you don't.
Will Hughes
I like that guy.
Unknown Speaker
If you don't have to wait online and if you're a fan of the guy then it's cool because he's there like smashing the burgers and throwing the onions on. But I went in there, I don't know who this guy is. But then like people walking like oh.
Will Hughes
My God, it's George.
Unknown Speaker
And that's cool for them.
C
I will say the one of the better smash burgers in New York is Literally right up the block. Gotham Burger Social Club. Terrible name. Honestly. Fantastic.
Will Hughes
On the. On the walk over here was.
C
Oh really?
Will Hughes
Yeah, really big.
Unknown Speaker
What about maybe now? That's 3:45.
Will Hughes
You'll be good. Well, I'm gonna go to your mates your mate's restaurant now.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, don't. Don't.
Will Hughes
Not 3:40. What time is it?
Unknown Speaker
3:45. So we're gonna get you out here with the last question. Do you have any constructive criticism you'd like to give us? Will he. Will he or won't he on.
Will Hughes
On this podcast? Yeah.
C
You've spent almost two hours with us. Give us some constructive criticism.
Unknown Speaker
How can we do better?
Will Hughes
Are we gonna go for one beer?
Unknown Speaker
We have to pot after this.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
You have another pod?
C
Yeah, we do an after show.
Will Hughes
Geez. Should have mentioned that rice. That's ridiculous.
Unknown Speaker
We should have been reals guys.
C
Should pot mobiley from the magician. Yeah, Same landlord.
Unknown Speaker
I will wrap all this up. We'll bring in the lights. Yeah, our landlord is also the one that's good.
Will Hughes
No, no, no. Real criticisms from me.
Unknown Speaker
Where can the kids follow you? What would you like to plug?
Will Hughes
I actually have a homeware business that I've completely forgotten to mention.
C
James mentioned it.
Unknown Speaker
L do the salted ceramics or some.
C
CEO of Pleasant Home.
Will Hughes
CEO of Pleasant Home. But it's. It's not available for purchase in the US yet, so I don't for that.
Unknown Speaker
But it will be honestly a lot better than I would have expected from a food content creator.
C
We were talking about how tasteful and fire it is.
Will Hughes
Oh, I'm glad you think so.
C
Yeah, it looks really good.
Will Hughes
Yeah, I'm. I've spent a lot of time in Portugal. They've got a really good ceramic situation there. Mike actually helps keyer bags. Key.
Unknown Speaker
Do you. Do you. Do you incorporate them into all your plating seeing like on your videos?
Will Hughes
Yeah, I'm not really playing anything. I'm just sticking it in a bowl. But yeah, honestly, very. The new. The new collection that we've done is called like the Speckled Collection. And the bowl. I love them plates.
Unknown Speaker
Spotted Dick collection.
Will Hughes
Dick collection. That could be the next one.
C
Yeah.
Will Hughes
Yeah.
C
That's for another free one.
Will Hughes
Circumcise yourself with a plate.
Unknown Speaker
So it's just bowls, plates, dishes.
C
Makes no sense.
Will Hughes
That'd be weird. Oh, no. Yeah. Poles.
Unknown Speaker
Pleasant Home.
Will Hughes
Both plates. Mug mugs. We do trinket trays. Actually. We've got a really good incense holder. Ashtray.
C
Nice.
Will Hughes
Which has got like a. It's got like a dome in the middle with a little. It's quite simple and I don't know if anyone's patent it and patented it and if they have, I might be in trouble. But it's a little bump in the middle with a little hole in it that doesn't go right down through the whole thing. So you can just stick an incense stick in it whilst smoking whatever and use it as an ashtray. Oh, pretty handy. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Follow him on what will he cook.
Will Hughes
Yeah or at Pleasant Home Plug.
Unknown Speaker
I think just pleasant home.
Will Hughes
It might just be pleasant Home.
