But 15 years ago in 2011, we had the. What was the history of special operations worst day. And we're going to talk about that. We're not going to forget those guys. I just got smoke in my eyes. That's all it is. Smoke from the CIGAR. There are 25American special operators on that crew that went down. Mostly tier one operators from Seal Team 6, Gold Squadron 2 troop, five aviators, eight Afghans were also on that. Seven commandos, an interpreter and as well as a canine, for a total of 38. To put that in perspective, Red Wings, which was another absolute travesty and as horrible as Red Wings was, and it's not to compare tragedies at one's worse than the other, but it just puts it in perspective. Three Navy SEALs died on the ground, eight Navy SEALs died in the helicopter, and eight aviators were in that bird from the 1 60th, bringing up a total of 16. So if you want to know exactly how bad Extortion 17 was, it was, it was twice as bad. The, and it was really horrible because SEAL Team six was kind of on, on top of the world. Just three months prior to that, they had taken out Osama bin Laden on a historic mission only to have that rug pulled out from under their feet with one of the, or the worst days in all special operation history. There's a bad conspiracy about the guys on that bird being the, the same guys from the UBL raid. Conspiracies are always stupid and grounded in nothing.

Yeah.

[Brent Tucker]

Thinking that they were going to. It was their way of silencing the guys on the UBL raid. That's clearly not true. Just goes to show how stupid most conspiracy theories are. Like I already said, it was from Gold Squadron 2 troop and essentially removed a complete troop out of a tier one element. Another thing that, that, that, that people get wrong. But it's, it's, it's part of the narrative. And we've, we've had people on this show to, to expose that. And part of it, people have said before that they were there as a QRF element to the Rangers because the Rangers run a hard way and needed saving. And that's actually not true. It's believed that, that they're actually going after a high value target that had squirted from the objective and they had launched to go recover or do what they do to high value targets. So you know, the Rangers that were there, we were never in a tick. We were never calling in for, for help. We had everything covered. So the high value target was, was not there. That's a safe assumption of what's going on. I've heard that from multiple different sources. But in the day, I don't know that A hundred percent sure. But I'm, I'm, I'm fairly certain that's actually why they launched. And if you think about it, I, I, I think helo crashes are the hardest to accept because these were arguably some of the greatest war fighters America had to offer. And they could probably, those, Those group of 38 men probably could have held off an enemy battalion, but in a helo, there's, there's nothing they could do. They never got a chance to fight. They never got a chance to, to meet the enemy that they trained their whole lives were, they were, they were stuck. And that Hilo, and it just, it seems like a, a massive, massive tragedy because it is, it absolutely is. So 15 years later, every, of course we give the SEALs a hard time. We do it out of love. I love those guys. I love those guys. There's some of the, some of the greatest Americans you will ever meet and on the tier one side to be some of the greatest Americans you'll ever get a chance to meet. And every year we will ensure that extortion 17 is remembered. I thought it, in fact, let's, I was going to do a little bit of Navy SEAL history and in honor of the Navy seals and see exactly how it, how it came about. How did we get. What was their humble beginnings? Every, every special operation unit has one. And how do they get to become the legendary SEAL Team Six that they are? And we're going to go through that here in a second. But before we get to some history, let's go to some super chats. Drew.

Got it, man. Well, I'd like to add, just because of that, you know, expensive cost of American blood for anyone to say that Iran is a silly and stupid and needless war. They don't know their history. They don't know the connections. They don't know how the IRGC has their hands and all of these things because they were, they, they were Iranian back this, what are they? The Ha, what are they called? The Haqqani or something like that network.

[Brent Tucker]

The, It's, I mean, just to put it over in perspective as, as much as you may not have liked about the Afghan war, and there's plenty not to like, I just got done reading the book About Face by the Colonel David Hackworth. And I know you guys have talked about him a lot on this and have encouraged me to read that book. I finally got around to it. I think I read it in about three days. I put off a lot of work that I should have been doing because the story was amazing. And I, I absolutely mowed through that book. What's absolutely insane about that book is In David Hackworth's 10 Silver Stars, I believe he had 10 or 11, his equal number of Purple Hearts. It wasn't any of that. It was that when he got to Afghanistan and by the end. Oh, gosh, I actually confused it when he got to Vietnam, by the end of Vietnam, as much as he loved war and he did as good as he was at war, and he was everything that was going on and going wrong in Vietnam in that book and his synopsis of it, you could have replaced everything he said about the Vietnam, the Vietnam War, with the war in Afghanistan, and you wouldn't have been able to tell the difference from pathetic leadership to careerism to being dishonest to the American public about the ground truth to allowing safe havens to be had. Everything. It's like we learned nothing. And I'm bringing this around to Iran because I believe what we're doing with Iran is justified. They've killed a lot of Americans. They've killed a lot of Americans. And guess what? You can't kill Americans. You, you can't do it. That's the message we have to send to Iran. And, and I believe we're doing it the right way. We're not committing hundreds of thousands of ground troops into a. It's almost like we learned something, and we're like, hey, why don't we try something different? So I believe Iran should be done. The American public has no patience ever. And they'd have even less patience if a massive amount of, of casualties were happening. And I think this is what we're supposed to do. I think we're just supposed to absolutely bring people to their knees with, with our strong points. And, and we have the world's greatest military ground troops in reserve in case we need them. So that's. That. That is a good point, Drew. And I think, and, and people are complaining about it, and we're doing, and we're doing it right this time, and we're doing it for the right reasons. And we're doing it for the right reasons. Someone, people want to say Afghanistan really had nothing to do with 9 11. Well, that's crazy. But I, I, if, if we're having, if we're having a real adult conversation about it, I, I can, I can see your point. Okay. But Iran's been poking us in the eye since the late 70s, and, and they found. And they finally got it. So let's do one thing. We've never Done. And let's take care of a problem because before it's a major problem and

they've funded all, all of our problems just about in the Middle east.

Absolutely.

Solely. 1, 2, 3, 4. First again says if U. S had won an Afghan Afghanistan, should Taliban like Those responsible for extortion 17 Unbelievable.

Yeah, unbelievable.

Meaning my, my Internet wiped out on me says should Taliban like Those responsible for extortion 17 have been executed or imprisoned or reintegrated into society?

[Brent Tucker]

You know that's a, if, if we step, I mean of course I have a knee jerk reaction that wants to say no, we, we catch those guys. We, you, you hang them in, in the public square. But I think, I don't know. That's a good question. A part of me, part of me of course wants to say that there's another part of me that says you, you want to know why America's so great is because they, they could have done that to the south after the civil war. They could have.

Right.

Called them all traitors and terrorists and went and rounded up everyone and executed everyone. That's right, yeah. Instead they said no, we, we unders. We weren't happy about it. But end of the day if we're going to make this a nation, we got to come together and do that. So I don't know. That is, that is a very, very hard question. It would really depend really what the. Rounding them up and talking to them and, and seeing where their mindset is. If, if they're die hards over it, the diehards have to be removed. The same thing in every and all those historical situations I was talking about. Yeah. So yeah, that's a great question.

You never know. Some of the behind the scenes stuff, right. Like there could, there could be young men that are like, well, if I didn't do what they told me to do, you know, they, they, they knew where my family lived.

You know that stuff goes on.

I think about it, had I been born in Afghanistan I probably would have been part of the Taliban and I was a terrorist. Yeah. So there, there are, there are things, there are things to, to think about. And I think that's a, that's a tough question. I think it's a good question. It's a tough one.

So he says Taliban lucky or skilled to cause extortion 17 you always got

to be a little bit of both. Yeah, you always got to be a little both. And, and this isn't, this isn't casting shade. This is, this is us having to, having to learn from things and, and make sure we don't make the same mistake twice. We there, there were mistakes made on, on the infill platform, you know, reusing avenues of approach, reusing similar LZs, the same things that haunted us during Red Wings. And we just, we have to honor these men and we also have to learn from it.

How should us public treat veterans and remember their wars? Are they obligated to act in certain ways? Are the public obligated to act in certain ways?

[Brent Tucker]

Yeah, you're. To me, I'd say you're obligated to act like decent Americans. You're obligated to come together as of people and say, and put your petty differences aside. I'm not, I'm not wrong. Wrong is wrong and, and right is right. But put petty differences aside and come together for the great of this, for the better of this nation. Because if this nation goes down, everything, everything I did in war was for nothing. Everything those guys didn't. War was for nothing. And every single loss in a war was for nothing. If this country goes down and

we're not on, we're not on the path I think that, that we should be on. And so I don't think it's too late, but at some point it will be. So, yeah, that's, that's your obligation is to be great Americans. That's the only obligation. You don't owe me a thank you for your service. You don't owe me anything. Be a great American.

Yeah, I think if you disagree with the war, you can disagree all you want, but don't disagree with the men and women that go over there and fight and sign the paper that you didn't want to sign. Go and do. And I think we learned that from the Vietnam War when the people were protesting, the warriors that went over there and did what they signed up to do.

Now, I was talking to a MACV soft guy on the phone just a couple of days ago, trying to get him on the podcast. A little bit of a pre interview, if you will. Let's, let's pause it real quick and let's, let's get back to it. It's already 8:30. Man. I can't believe it goes, it goes so fast. But I want to talk a little bit more about the Navy SEALs and brag on my brothers from the water and just talk a little bit of history and how, how we got from. How we got from the beginning of it to the amazing men of Seal Team 6. Their war origins can be taken all the way back to scouts and raiders, Naval Command demolition units. UDT units of course is a big one and OSS Maritime unit. All those played a part and the culture and the forming of a maritime special operations unit. Of course of that the udts are the most. The UDT frogman if you will, are the kind of more clear answer of where they really came from. Most of those UDT frogmen didn't, didn't even carry weapons. They didn't need weapons. They were, they were clearing underwater mines, obstacles. A weapon if you really think about that. I never thought about that until I was watching a few videos of it and it just goes like a weapon is fairly useless in their job because their job is to remove things and they're, and they're not offensive. Of course you always want to be able to defend yourself. But a weapon in that situation is also almost more detrimental than it is a good for you because your job is to remove things and have a weapon always on your back dragging you down in the way. It's kind of crazy. They had knives and, and they did some amazing, amazing things These. The udts did. They gave important information as well, like water depth like we had to know the depth of, of waters to plan out these inv. They had no reefs and obstacles, beach conditions poss. They gave possible landing routes and they still reported back on enemy defenses. They did so much in World War II for invasions and for the defeat of, of of the Germans in World War II. Of course, in Korean War, UDTs became Rangers. And this is where they, they really kind of become a little bit more offensive or go a little bit further than just a bls. They expanded beyond traditional beach reconnaissance. The band conducted missions that looked increasingly more like modern special operations. Coastal raids, demolition, infiltration, reconnaissance, and attacks against infrastructure. And attacks. Its infrastructure is huge. As a conventional force, there's always reinforcements that you have to worry about. Have a small team take out a bridge. No reinforcements. You want to slowly starve, if you will, whether that be food, ammunitions, logistical support, remove a bridge. That's a massive, massive piece. And in war holistically, and those guys did just that. President Kennedy, who is, who was a huge instrument in creating the Green Berets, was also instrumental and believed in special operations. He was instrumental and bringing about the seals as well. Kennedy was a major advocate for expanding American unconventional warfare capabilities. The Cold War intensified. So at that point, with that, the direction of the President, the Navy created SEAL Team 1, who operated under the Pacific Fleet and SEAL Team 2 under the Atlantic Fleet. And, and then that's where they got their, their name. Seal, Sea, air and land. Unlike the udt, seals were supposed, weren't supposed to concentrate primarily on fibus demolition. They were intended to conduct unconventional warfare and special operations deep inside hostile territory. Well, not to the n. The Navy SEAL Museum. I found, I found out something really cool. The udts, their origins for where they were doing their initial training was, and I believe it was Fort Pierce was in Florida. And when they found out these guys were going through having to deal with high stress environments, they put them through something to try to simulate those high stress environments. And what do you think they created to try to weed out guys who couldn't make it through high stress environments? Buds Close, close selection. Hell Week they created. Hell Week it is.

Yeah.

[Brent Tucker]

And Hell Week from the udts transferred over to the Navy seals. Of course, the seals did amazing things in Vietnam especially, I won't say that especially if you read Dick Marcinko's book, but that's, that's a podcast for another time. We're only doing positive things here. And the seals, of course in Vietnam include a reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, ambushes, raids, prisoner capture, personal recovery operations against Viet Cong infrastructure, and direct action missions. They were called men with the green faces. And that's really where they started their, their culture of just really being Sneaky, really being good at their job. Surprising. Coming out of the shadows with the shadows of the water. Whether we. The shadows of. Of night. And the SEALs had several medal of Honor recipients out of Vietnam, of course, and the post Vietnam era. We had Operation Eagle Claw, which was the failed Iranian hostage rescue mission. Of course it didn't have anything to do with Delta Force. It had to do with the, the joint way in which we're conducting the mission. And Richard Marcinko saw that and said, hey, you know what? We, we really need to beef up our counter terrorism capabilities and proposed Seal Team 6. And he got the green light on that. So Delta force was. In 1977 and 1980, Commander Richard Marcinko was selected to create a specialized Navy Counter terrorism unit. The result was Seal Team 6. The name was deliberately misleading. There were only Seal Team 1 and 2 at the time. But Marcinko reportedly chose 6 partly to confuse the Soviet intelligence about how many teams actually existed. Which was. Was great on him because that is a trick out of the old playbook. Our. I can't believe I'm forgetting his name. I'm gonna think it here in just a second. But the founder of the Green Berets, the same thing with Special Forces. The very first Special forces Group was 10th Special Forces Group because we wanted the world to think we had nine other groups just like this.

[Brent Tucker]

So even in their naming convention, they had psychological warfare and special operations in mind. And it's a great thing. So they were part of and, and from and from there, like our tier one units, they got better and better and better. We, we use them in Operation Just cause in Panama, we use them in Desert Storm. They don't get a lot of credit because they, because it wasn't the same thing as what happened the Delta Force. But they were also there supporting Gothic Serpent in Somalia and of course in Afghanistan 2001. And for the next almost two two decades. They did amazing things on the war on terror and they took a heavy, heavy price for defending this country and for going after America's enemies with tenacity. Make no mistake about it. Make no mistake about it. No unit is perfect. Units are comprised of imperfect people. The SEAL community is absolutely, like I said before, chock full of amazing Americans. You may know a few bad stories. Guess what? You haven't heard the thousands of good stories. You haven't heard the hundreds and hundreds of the ultimate sacrifice of men going above and beyond and doing it with a trident on their chest. We are a better country because we have the seals and I, I couldn't imagine going to war without them, to be honest with you. I couldn't imagine going to war without the seals. Every one of our special operation units serve its, its own purpose. And the seals, absolutely, absolutely serve their purpose. So that is a history of the seals and how, how we got those great men, those great men that. Of extortion. 17 that pulley that paid the ultimate sacrifice. We're going to continue taking some super chats before we, before we move on. So I'm just gonna drive off with it. And she's trying and she puts, she takes the plant, she goes in the car and she's looking for her keys in her purse and looking and looking and looking. And I have her keys in my hand and I have to walk out there knowing this old lady is red handed. Caught stealing like a dollar plant and go, ma', am, are you looking for these keys? And she goes, oh, thank you so much. I said, and I think you forgot to pay for that plant. And she looked, her face went beet red. She was, oh, I didn't know I still had it. As in the watch was just a few days ago. 8, 4, 2, 6. Let's read his story real quick, Drew. The Las Vegas Metro Police officer killed in a shooting Tuesday was ambushed by suspect and piece of crap, Clark County Sheriff Kevin McHale said during a press conference Wednesday. On Tuesday, Aug. 4, Officer Austin Abdelnabi, 30, was killed in the line of duty while responding to a report of a person with a gun acting erratically and waving a firearm in the air at a business and the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue near I11. Abdel Nabi was a U.S. marine veteran. This man's a servant, has been serving his whole adult life, it seems like who had been with the department since November 2023. Abdul Nabi had studied at Clemson University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and Law enforcement administration from 2018 to 2022. And there he is right there, protecting his community against a garbage of a human being. And he paid the ultimate sacrifice to make sure others, innocent people would not have to suffer the same consequences. And for this, we remember this amazing officer and former Marine. There was a mall shooting, and he had. He had promised himself that, that'll never happen to him and he'll be able to protect himself. And he got a gun and started training. And for two years this is every, I think concealed carry owner's dream, which is to take it that serious. And for two years this man waited for his time and he got it. Although he didn't end up taking the man down, the active shooter, who we won't say his name because we won't give him any sort of publicity for being an absolute turd. He ended up killing himself with a self inflicted gun wound, which is fine by me. That's not even, it's not even take this to court. But it is odd. I don't know why he has a suppressor on. I'll tell you, I mean it's, it's, it's good, it's good conversation and I love a suppressor. Oddly enough, I love a suppressor on, on my long guns. But this is, this is something to think about. He said that once he started engaging this guy, he didn't really know where the bullets were coming from, but he didn't like being engaged. I do have a little bit, I shouldn't say a problem with that, but just something to think about. It's a good argument to have. I think you should have a suppressor on, on your long gun. Even those guns will, will have still a pretty good snap to them when using supersonic, supersonic ammo. Unless you're on a sneaky mission. Again, this is just a little bit devil's advocate food for thought. If you told me in that situation I could have a suppressor or I could not have a suppressor, I would choose not to have a suppressor. And the reason behind that is so he shot at him, he missed. I want the bark of that gun to be part of the distraction. I want him to hear that. I want him to know there's you are taking rounds and not to wonder if I'm taking rounds. Like getting shot, shot at and hearing that will immediately make him change course and know there's something out there that's looking to kill him. And there is, there just is. There's on, on the enemy's perspective, just a different reaction to the loud bark of a gun to what sounds like a BB gun, a.22 long barrel, which can be pretty quiet like getting shot at you like I want that psychological effect of it on it now. I don't know how far the dots was. Don't get me wrong, this isn't me bagging on this guy. At all. I'm so glad he was there.

Yesterday the Texas Supreme Court I believe ruled on the. The taking away of the nfa. So now suppressors, short barrel shotguns and short barrel rifles are now off the NFA list. Now they'll be bought like a regular firearm. I think there's seven days to obviously appeal that.

I'm sure they'll drag that out.

But I think it's two things. I think it's awesome that obviously we had a good guy take down a bad guy or help people.

Right. He didn't take down a bad guy but he helped save lives. He helped save lives by, by returning guy.

He had a good guy with a gun. So we 100 protect the Second Amendment with that. And second, I thought it was crazy that he had a suppressor with him.

So I was. He's probably. He might be listening to the show. If not now he'll listen to it later. We. We have a cousin that is a retired police officer and he told me one of his biggest concerns would be and it really. And it stuck with me all these years would be reacting to an active shooter incident and shooting the good guy. And that's always. That is when you're the cop that shows up with a little information that says hey there's a guy out here shooting. And, and so as a cop you're going to show up and whoever's shooting is getting it.

Thankfully that didn't happen. And there's.

That's always in the back of people's minds. Yeah. Even with the mall shooting that the person return fire on. On someone else. Like you don't when you show up to a scene, you don't know who's the good and who's the bad guy.

So the only reason why I bring that up, because this guy had two years to think about this and, and react. And I want everyone here to think about this as well. And you can, if you, if you're aware of it, you can do it. But if you're going to get so caught up in the moment, you have got to take a second and look around real quick every now and again to see if a police officer has showed up.

And if a police officer has showed up, you're going to have to put that gun down and talk to him or, or signal to him and get his attention like that. That better be in your, in your matrix of, of thinking and step one, step two, this is what I'm going to do. Because you will encounter law enforcement and do not make that law enforcement officer have to make the toughest decision of his life of are you the good guy with the gun or the bad guy with the gun? He doesn't know. Thankfully, that didn't happen in this situation. But that's, that's always my concern. And it's avoidable. It's avoidable if you think about it. Then you'll be able to conduct yourself appropriately.

Whenever I sell a firearm to someone, I always emphasize training, training, training. Go get training. Don't just get this, go to the range. Go get, get professional training from people.

And again, and it wasn't just by chance. This guy made a conscious decision two years ago to never be a victim and, and was able to help this out. So what a great story.

And I know this is going to sound crazy. I'm just, I'm just laying out the argument and saying I understand the other side. If, if, if their motives are pure, which usually they're not, but let's just say their motives are pure and they don't want to see needless violence and they're anti gun because of that. I understand your argument, but it's a pipe dream. There are hundreds and hundreds of millions of guns in this country due to our constitution and we do have a living and breathing constitution that, that, that can be changed and should and to some degree should be looked at to be changed with the times. And that's.

And that is. That is fine. Except the reality is you will never get the guns off the street. Most guns. This one's a little bit new. And I didn't really think about this until right now or else I would have looked into it. Usually we find out is most of the guys that carry out these things procured their guns illegally anyway, so whatever gun laws that you want to enact wouldn't have solved this anyway. And it takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun. That is just the truth. There's two truths here. That's the truth. And you'll never get all the guns off the street. And I guess there's three truths here. Gun laws don't work. So anyway, I. I wanted to. I wanted to show this. I wanted to highlight this guy even with his misses. That's a joke. Maybe it's too far. I. I don't know.

But there's a good chance there would have been a change. That at least as a possibility would have been a change of the story because the 1 60th birds are, are, have armor on them and the conventional birds are thin skinned. So I, I, there are stories of 1/60 birds taking, taking a hit and limping at home or at least being able to do a controlled crash. So there, there's a chance. As long as I have iron sights, Because I have to, I have to aim off of something if I have iron sights, a light. This is, this is, this will be controversial to some, but to people who've hunted people, they'll, they'll get it. I'll, I'll take a light. I will take a light over an optic.

I'll take both. But, yeah, but I'll again, I'll just take a, a second to, to back that up because some people might be like, why would you say that? And we got time. It's 9:41. Whether it's daytime or night time. You didn't tell me if it was day or night, but it doesn't matter. If you just have a gun and you don't know when you're going to have to use it. Well, night is, is half of the day. And if you can't see what you're hunting, you're, you're useless. So you have to be able to see what you're doing. The second thing an overpowering light is going to give you, besides getting to identify your target, is going to be the overwhelming sense that they have of a flashlight in their eyes. Because that's what's going to happen as you're scanning for this target of a thousand lumens in their eyeballs. And they're going to have to look away and they're not going to, they're not going to be able to return fire either at all or accurately. And it gives. So not only does it allow you to see what you're shooting, it keeps them from seeing what they're shooting, and it gives you. Gunfights are one in tenths of a second. And that hesitation of lack of vision maybe more than likely will be the difference of winning a gunfight, but that also is in like inside a room, home defense, CQB inside of a room. You can go back to that, that video of the guy in Idaho. A light wouldn't have done him a lot, a lot of good. But let me tell you, whether it was iron sights or a, a red dot reticle, you should be able to make those shots. When Rob Latham would come out to the Unit and shoot with us. He would only shoot in. In iron sights, and he was fast and he was accurate. So as much as I love red dot sites and I do, I. I'm not some weirdo that's anti red dot site. That's crazy. I also can't go as far as to say it's like they're the end all, be all. And you can't hit targets with. With them. With. With iron sights, you absolutely can.

But you also got a train. Train, train.

You. You have. You have to go. You have to go shooting. You have to. And here's another thing that people don't necessarily understand. You don't always have to go to the range and train. There's a lot of these as something as simple as dry firing. You're training your eyes so much on shooting is training your eyes. These. These trainer guns are. Are great as well. Like, these laser trainer guns are great because you're trained. At least that way you're both training your eye and you're getting to see trigger manipulation, which is so important when shooting a pistol. So there's a. There's a lot of things.

So. So the Gen 6 has a grip texture which is. Which is different. An optic ready system I have to look at here, make sure I know everything. A flat face trigger, which I don't know why I do like flat face triggers, but it doesn't matter that they did anything with the trigger. They'll never be able to make it as good as. Or they just. They could. They refused to make it as good as an aftermarket trigger. So you're going to replace that trigger anyway. So it doesn't matter. I hate to say it. Nothing they did is. Is anything that I would probably keep on it anyway because I'm. I'm gonna switch out components. You know, the. The upper slides are so easy and cheap to. To. To switch out the when. And that one will have an optic ready slide anyway, which is what I. I did to mine back there. I'm gonna put a different trigger in it. So to me, it doesn't really matter what generation Glock you buy. You should buy it then. You should customize it with. With better equipment anyway.
