So, like, that's the biggest difference is these small schools, they have to play their starting five, and, like, dude, you got teams like Duke that have, like, five stars sitting on the bench. So it's like, it's tough. You really got to put it together for 40 minutes.

And even though UNC, in the history of March Madness, is not the craziest thing to go down in. In week one or day one. Right. But after day two, usually there's a huge drop off because you know for sure somebody's gonna lose. Right. Whoever that may be. And then, yeah, you might have. There's millions of brackets filled, and then they're like, yeah, there's eight perfect brackets left, and you're like, who the hell are the eight sickos that actually picked this?

Yeah, you gotta think people are just pumping out brackets. People just like pump out brackets. So like, some people, like put 100 brackets into the field.

Yeah. Where does March. Where does March Madness rank in postseason sports? Where. Where do you see it? Is it up there with NFL playoffs, MLB playoffs, NHL playoffs? Like, where do you see March Madness fit in in the whole grand sports?

[Andre]

For me, personally, I love Marsh Madness, I really do. But I don't like, I, you know, unless FIU were to make it, I don't have, you know, as of a rooting interest in terms of, you know, how much I intensely follow the Stanley cup playoffs I play. But in terms of quality, in terms of craziness, un. You know, unexpectability, if that's even a word. This has got to be up there with. With the top. Right. Because like one, it's. It's a whole. It's a long term. It. 64 teams are in this thing. It spans a few weeks and it's one and done. So it adds that, you know, element that like the, you know, Stanley cup playoffs and the NBA playoffs, for example, you know, the seven games series. With that being said, Stanley cup playoffs for me are like the greatest thing of all time. But this would probably rank up there for. For most people, I would assume. I think it's like the craziest thing.

Yeah. I mean, the thing is though, and I hate to say this, but none of our sports teams outside of the Panthers have really made the playoffs.

[Andre]

No, but like, even we've witnessed heat and even then, I think the NBA playoffs would rank pretty low on my list without.

[David]

Without your team in there.

Exactly.

Yeah, exactly.

[Andre]

But, yeah, I mean, the nf. The thing is, like, it also just depends on, like, because I can objectively see March Madness as one of the best postseasons, for sure. Like, I love March Madness. I really do. But, you know, NFL playoffs, while, you know, you can have a lot of stinkers in the NFL playoffs, unfortunately, but like, if the Dolphins made the NFL playoffs, there's like 100.

[David]

We talked about it last week. We did the whole ranking of everything. We're like, so, okay, how much does this even matter of like, Masters? It was like March, Matt, whatever the lineups were, how Much does it really matter if your Dolphins are making a playoff run? It's like you put everything aside and it's like, yeah, I want the Dolphins in a playoff run to the Super Bowl. You know, obviously when your team's in it, it just enhances it. From a general sports fan perspective, I do agree. I think March Madness is up there because of the volatility of what happens on a day to day, game to game basis. It's. Nobody's safe. No. Right. And it's. It, it. It tells you something. When the odds of making a perfect bra bracket, I forget what they are when they compare. Like, getting struck by lightning is a higher likeability. Higher possibility.

Than getting a perfect bracket. That tells you something right there.

I think to me, though, like, I like what y' all were saying. I grew up in North Carolina. Basketball is everything in North Carolina. Like, there's four schools that can win a championship every year, eight miles apart. And I just remember, like, me and six of my buddies on the couch every March, and we. I got two. I got two national championships in high school. So it really resonates with me. Like, I remember those nights hosting all the boys on my couch. Dude, we got a 64 inch TV when they wasn't even popular. Like, it was the craziest thing. And like, dude, watching those March Madness runs with the boys, we're all Tar Heel fans just going crazy, headbutting the door. Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbro, like, those are the best times ever. So, like, to me, it's all relevant to, like, your team success. I do agree with that. It has a lot of weight and we're all invested in the NFL because, like, you play fantasy, everybody watches. You only got to watch one day a week to know everything about the NFL.

So I think there's a lot more invested in the NFL, but for shock value and entertainment and like, that, there's just something mystical about March Madness. You just, you can't. If you could bottle that, I think it would sell more than any other sport.

Yeah. And I mean, you think you bring up the fantasy aspect. Right. The bracket is essentially an element of that. Right. And I think that's any sort of like, gambling game. Yeah, exactly. Gamified version of anything you could add to sports fanatics is just going to enhance the experience. And I, I think people, like, they build up, they build their bracket. They're so hyped up and you're just like, holy shit, my bracket's hot. Or, holy shit, my brackets busted on day one. You know, Elite. Elite. We're back. We're back in March Madness.

[Bobby]

I think the NBA is really. Yeah, I was just. I was just gonna say, I think the NBA's lost a lot of mystique when it comes to the. I remember when it was like, you know, Celtics versus Lakers, 2010. It's like, this gets no better. You got KG, Ray Allen, Rondo versus Paul Gasol, Kobe, Ron Artest, like Lamar Odom. Like, we don't have that. I feel like I don't even think I watched the Finals last year. I don't know if I've watched the last few finals.

Yeah, I mean, you know, the. The Heat. The Heat. The Heat run a few years ago. The Jimmy Bubble year. Well, bubble. And the one that we lost to the Nuggets in the finals.

You know, the thing about the NBA is that you could almost kind of predict every year, two to, you know, maybe four teams that, like, are almost guaranteed to be there. Right. You know, that was. That was pretty shot. Everyone last year thought the Thunder, like, this seems like this team is unstoppable. Like, you know what I mean? Like, and they're looking unstoppable again. So I think what makes certain postseasons more special than others is that chance that really anybody could win. Right like that. You know, it's like, maybe we'll have a shock. We haven't really had a huge shock, at least in the NBA. And what feels like a little bit. It feels like the winner has kind of been predestined. Like, even the Warrior years, honestly, even the Heat years, the biggest shock was when we. We really. When we lost the Mavs. I guess I was. I Was obviously. Yeah. But like, you. You expected the heat to be there.

That was the first year, though. Y' all had a little bit of.

Exactly. But it's more of like that expectation with March. Like, yeah, of course you've got your favorites. There's always favorites. But like, every year, favorites go down. Like, it's, you know, it's. It's. It's rare to have a team, you know, just be, oh, yeah, that's unstoppable. There's obviously, there's a few examples, like that Duke year with, like, Anthony Davis and stuff like. Like, that was like, okay, this team's probably going to win everything.

Three short versus four. Right. So when you're third and your fourth hitter combined for six strikeouts in the championship game, it's a recipe for disaster. Yeah, right. Like, that's just really what it is. Right? I mean, shout out Venezuela. I mean, everybody's talking about how they. How, yeah, shout out grave is they. They definitely felt like they wanted it more. They Felt like it was just like a team of destiny a little bit as well. Obviously, like, we beat Dr. To get there. Right. Dr. Was the team. They had 51. They had outscored their opponents, I think, 51 to 10 up to that point. Like, they were just smacking everybody around. We kept them in check, which we also did that with a very good Venezuela lineup. Right. Like, our pitching kept them in check for the most part. Unfortunate way to kind of close it out. You. You let a walk in the ninth inning happen, and they end up winning the game off that one walk. Right. But we couldn't do it. And when Judge, you know, played the way he did and Schwarber played the way he did, the captains of this team, it's. I mean, you're not gonna win.

You're like, well, we haven't done anything, so it doesn't feel good, but we're legit a swing away from being right back in this.

And, and to be recognized as a great in any sport, people are going to remember you. Not necessarily just for your stats, like obviously only, you know, but it's going to be the moments, right? Like what do you do in the biggest moments of, of a sport, right? Like playoffs, right. Championship games, clutch moments. Just like the. That factor, right? Which is why mj, you know, will always be up there as one of those guys. Derek Jeter. Right. A Rod, Big Poppy. Manny Ramirez. Right. Like. And I'm missing a long list of a lot of names. Right. But those guys will always be respected, even though Aaron Judge's numbers are probably better than some of these guys, career wise. But you have to get over these hurdles and these humps because of the moments that you have the opportunity to showcase greatness and your list of people, honestly don't. They don't do that.

And unfortunately, that's just how it goes. Like, if you aren't able to do it, it is absolutely a team sport, by the way. But if you aren't able to get that. We got. We got some NFL news. Light, light NFL talk today, but, you know, one big news that happened, you know, here. Really, it's probably the biggest news in. In the last couple weeks was the Jalen Waddle trade that, you know, obviously was. Was huge told. Told you a lot one obviously of what the Dolphins are doing. But, Bobby, I'll kick it off to you. What were your thoughts when you saw that news?

[Bobby]

I'll be honest. It's weird because we're in the situation we're in. If we traded water last year, probably would have hurt a lot more because we're a little more closer to. Well, at least we think we're closer to, like, you know, being there this off season. Honestly, it. What do we get? Once I seen what we got, it was. I was a little hurt because I do love Waddle Waddle. I remember being in New Orleans On Monday Night Football when he broke the rookie record for receptions, people throwing popcorn at me because I was like, J Dub. J. Every catch. He had, like, 10 catches that night broke the record. I love Jalen Waddle. My wife probably heard me scream J Dub in this living room more than any other name. But timelines don't always match. And, dude, let's be honest here. When somebody offers that it's time to move on, it just is what it is. Their timeline allows them to make this kind of move. Kind of like we thought Tyreek and Bradley Chubb and all that was going to do for us. That's not where we're at. Lotto's going into going on 28, you know, and, dude, let's just be honest. A first, third, and a fourth. I mean, they probably get any player on this team for first, third, and fourth, so. And I'm sure we'll talk about that. I think a Chan could also be had for the right price.

And I'm with you, Bobby, in the sense of I need to see what it pans out to. But face value, getting a first third and swapping force for Waddle I think is an incredible deal. I think it's one that we had to take in a. In a rebuild on a rebuilding team. So, yeah, I mean, I'm. I'm fully trusting this, this front office. New gm Bring us some dogs in this draft because we've got like, what I think it's seven or eight picks in the top 100. So let's see. You know, until I see what we do.

But. But I'm excited. A draft day is gonna. Is gonna be extra, extra, extra sick this year.

So I. I will say this. It was. It's. It's a. Interesting in the fact that basically the Dolphins are saying if we're going to be competitive this year, it's going to have to be in the draft, right? And it's going to be hitting at least five of those first seven picks. Because if you don't. Right, you went in and you got Malik Willis, right? Yeah. Are you tanking? I don't think so. Right. Because if you were, then you don't go get Malik Willis in my. In my opinion. Right. You try to not to say, like, Quinn's terrible.

Yeah.

You ride with Quinn and you see what you got there. You. You don't spend any money really, and you just ride that. Right. But reality is, like, they trust, obviously, Malik. There's a little bit of development that's going to go into Malik, and he should evolve year over year into being that quarterback. But when now you've traded your best receiver on the team, you essentially are saying, like, we're going to have to go draft those guys now and they got a hit to give Malik a chance, because if not, you're not really giving Malik much of a chance to. To. To win. And that's. That's my biggest thing. Right. Like, how does Malik thrive in this situation when you've basically shipped. If you ship Devon Hn. Yeah. Then really forget about it. Right. And yeah, you might get a couple of extra first rounders, too, and then you might be able to get a bunch of day one starters early on. But it is interesting to see, like, how well we draft, because if not, like, you're really setting up Malik for failure in this first year.

The way I see this is, like, this draft is basically going to be the foundation of how this team is built. Like, this is your first draft with a new regime, new ideology. Like, really, these are the guys that need to be your horses. Like, this needs to be the. The draft class, you know, the seven picks in the first three rounds that you're going to lean on, you know, for the next two to three years. Like, and we were talking about it yesterday, like, how many do we need to hit on? You know, they don't have to be pro bowlers, but do it have to

be, like, they got to be day

[Peter]

one guys active, you know, starters, you know, good pieces that can, you know, go in there and make an impact, whether it's this year or next year. But I really think that depending on how this draft class is, is going to determine if this is a viable rebuild or not. Because every rebuild starts with that first draft class. And you see a lot of teams built through the draft. I think Seattle built through the draft. You know, Denver built in a draft.

You know, the packers usually do.

[Bobby]

And that's who we got. So.

So this job class is really going to determine how it is and we said there's no real bad pick. There's so many holes in this team that you can go out there and. Best draft, best available.

And just ride with it. But I'm curious to see how they go. I'm curious how to see where they go this draft and obviously see who's there at 11, because right now it's very up in the air. Who's going to be up there at 11. It can go a ton of direction.

Yeah. No, I will ask this question. How much does this help Denver getting a guy like Jalen Waddle? Right. You see how they. Obviously we know the talent Jalen Waddle has and you know, the significance of an impact that he had on our offense. Right. But considering where Denver was last year, you know, Bo Nick's the guy there. They had a great defense last year. Does this really elevate them that much, considering the haul that we got out of it? That's something to think about as well.

I think so. In the sense of.

[Bobby]

Yeah, I think.

[Andre]

Oh, go ahead. I was waiting because I know there's a little lag, so I was like, like, let me see if Bobby wants to jump in first.

I gotta start talking when Andre's almost done talking.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I, I do think it does. I think it's a great trade for. For Denver. Right. You know, whether they gave too much, you know, I'll take it. But I think it absolutely does help their team. I mean, their offense, Bo Nicks is really good. They've already got good weapons there. Right. You've got Sudden, you've got Franklin, you've got, you know, some of the guys who, like, you know, aren't necessarily a massive. Like, Sudden's a very good wide receiver, but the other guys are more like supplementary, like really good kind of gadget guys, some speedsters. But what Waddle does is Waddle gives you a really good one two punch in a division that is offense heavy in a division that you know to compete with Kansas City, the Chargers, like you, this is an added piece for them that I think does make them really like an extra. Extra dangerous, to be honest. I think they're going to be very good and obviously, you know, at Bo Nixon should be ready soon, by start of next year. But yeah, I, I think it's a good trade for both. Both sides. I think it does. Like, Waddle is. Is a great. Listen, I'm a huge Waddle guy. I've always been a huge fan of him. You know, kind of. Maybe he's a better Number two than a number one. But you know, with sudden he. I think he can kind of play off him in a nice way.

Yeah. I think it's easy for us to sit over here and be like, man, I can't believe they gave us all that we fleeced. And we did, and we did.

I want to be very clear, but I mean, who really cares about the price if they go in a Super bowl, right? Like, who really gives a. So, like, I think Waddle, it's easy for us to celebrate what we did. It was perfect for us. But I also think it was a perfect move for them. Like David said, the perfect. He's the missing piece to their offense. They have the big body. God, they have some role players now. You have an explosive, dynamic playmaker to take the top off to open things up. They got two good running backs. I mean, I think Bo Nix, if he keeps taking the next step. They have an incredible defense. I mean they literally were. They were playing AFC championship and really didn't get their ass kicked with a nobody at quarterback. I mean, they probably go to the super bowl, honestly.

So I mean, they're there. They should be making these moves. They should believe in themselves. And I think Waddle happy for him because he's. He's in a great situation, living in a beautiful city, another beautiful city. Completely different but beautiful. He's with his best friend Patrick Sartan, roommates in college. So I mean, dude, perfect situation for Waddle. So I really do believe this is one of those rare win, win wins. Like it's just across the board. I think everybody's going to be happy with the result if we hit on the draft picks. Obviously.

Yeah, it's a, it's a crazy phenomenon like for the fence too, right? You see who was on this team a couple years ago and how there's legit, absolutely nobody left on this team.

It's that Will Smith meme of him walking to the room and like looking around. There's absolutely nothing in the room. That's what it is. That's literally. That's me walking in. Being a fan.

I, I saw the like the mashup of all the moments where Waddle was saying, fits for the win, fits for the win. I almost teared up. Yeah, I was like, damn, man, that hit awesome, man.

I love Waddle.

But we move on.

The one thing that hurts me that I've seen, the one thing that's irked me this week and I want to get Yalls opinion on this. All the talking heads I do agree. If you don't go and do something in the draft, then we could talk about this. But, like, all the talking heads immediately, what the hell do you sign Malik Willis for? Dude, you. You can't say that. And in the same sense, realize what we just got in return. We have a treasure chest of picks. You literally look, if we keep hn. You have Achan, you have a decent O line. Dude, they literally go into the drafts and add a playmaker or two and another offensive lineman. It's a top 15 offense. Like, what are we talking about here? Yeah, like, if Malik Willis is who we think he is and he takes another step, you have H and Malik Willis. Let's say you draft Kenyon Siddiq at number 11 or you trade down a little bit, or you get, like, Casey Casey or Omar Cooper Jr. At 30. Like, dude, it changes overnight. Like, we have seven top 100 picks, and I expect. Fully expect them to add one, if not two playmakers and another offensive guard in the first two rounds, probably. So, like, I just think it's crazy for people, like, what the hell are they doing for Malik Willis? Well, wait and see. We just traded for all these picks. We can't change it overnight. We have to use the pigs exactly like you can't. They're one hand. They're telling us how great it was to trade for these assets, and then they're saying, what are they going to do? Yeah, you just said it. We have seven picks in the top 100, and we'll do it again next year, next off season. We have $120 million, if not more, after all this deck gap goes away.

I think it just aggravates the out of me. It's like we haven't seen what we're gonna do.

Yeah, there's. There's two interesting things there, right? One is the fact that we have new gm, new head coach. Right? So new ideologies. So completely different way of drafting than we've drafted, you know, the course of the last, what, 10, 15 years, right? So it's a complete. There's a complete different level of trust now, Right? Because if we were sitting in this same situation, going through a rebuild with Greer, we'd be like, bro, how we. Like, yeah, great. We have seven draft picks, but it hasn't worked for us.

Yeah. Yeah. So now it's like, okay, completely different system in place, completely different process in place where these guys are going to say, yeah, we got seven draft picks and we're going to draft our way, which is obviously the packers way. And one thing that I don't think we also realize is they're going to take more of a defense first approach, in my opinion. Right. Like if you can take some of that pressure off of a Malik Willis and that offense right where it was kind of the opposite with Mike McDaniel, it was like high power offense. You're going to go score 30 points and you're going to just score more points than what the defense gives up. Right where here it's like, let's build a badass defense. Malik Willis is talented enough to make the plays when we need him to, but we don't have to go score 35 points to go win a game. Like, we can go build a badass defense with these picks. Still get playmakers on offense. Right. To help Malik. Like you said, Bobby, we have a good enough offensive line. One healthy right. Go get another guy in the draft. But we have that flexibility with the amount of picks that we have. But I, I do think that this team has to be built from a defense first approach. Be really gritty on the defensive side so you could take some of that pressure off Malik and he can make enough plays at the end of the day with some of the playmakers that we can get Devon Hn being one of those guys and then go win games that way. Right?

[Andre]

Yeah. Get draft a bunch of dogs.

Dogs, yeah. Jordan Brooks on the defensive side, really good. Right? I mean, obviously, what's the evolution of chop look like? I still think we need a couple edge guys. We need interior guys on the defensive line for sure. You know, Sealer obviously is good. He. And not to say that he regressed, but we know what Sealer can be. Can he continue to be that captain and be that. That guy in the locker room? But it's corner and secondary, I think really, where, yeah, we have to focus on. And then interior on. On the defensive side.

I just think one thing you just made me realize, and you're right, is like the atmosphere, baseball is just different.
