All right, all right, all right.
B
We are back, guys being dudes and hell yeah, it's America weekend, baby. We got the Winter Olympics underway. U.S. hockey plays today in the semis. But obviously when we win today, the big game is hopefully on Sunday. And it's looking like our little, little neighbors up north are struggling right now. But hey, we, we are here. We're talking and we're with the boys.
A
Gents, let's go.
B
How we doing, baby?
A
Let's go show Wingo. Let's go.
B
This is the first time Bobby's seeing me with, with the whole, the whole hat, the hair.
A
A lot has changed on Dave since the last time we saw him.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Since super bowl, dude, his hair. I've been growing this out. This is two weeks worth of growth and, and yeah, just in time for the big weekend, baby. Oh, yeah. Perfect.
A
Is that what a homeowner does to you?
C
You just.
A
Yeah, that's gonna be winko next.
B
This is what I thought. You're stress.
C
I thought you were supposed to lose your hair when you buy a house.
B
No, not me. I grow it, baby.
A
What a. What a day. We got like Dave mentioned, USA Hockey in effect obviously Winter Olympics obviously in full effect as well. But we got a great slate today for you, ladies and gentlemen. We got NFL combine. We got the interesting story going on at IMG right now with, with the cartel apparently. Interest, interesting stuff over there. USA Hockey PGA coming off pebble now, a Genesis Invitational, another signature event over there. Then we got some debates and of course our due to the week. So why not kick it off to our guy Wingo over there. We got combine going on next week. What are the thoughts going into this time of the year? Yeah, man.
D
So I'm super excited. You know, NFL combine, 20, 26, a lot of guys that, you know, everyone's going to be excited to see. I think the biggest thing is, you know, I'm looking at quarterbacks, right? Guys like Fernando Mendoza. You know, you can't. You're not going to have a bad combine. We talked about it like, you know, quarterbacks never have a bad pro day. You never have a bad combine, right? It's routes on airs, be efficient. But now it's who's going to be the risers of the combine, who's going to stand out stats wise, who's going to run good times. You know, I do think it's super overrated, right? The 40 yard dash, that's something we brought up. You know, guys who run a 4, 3 to 4, 4 right it's, it's quick, lickety spit.
C
It's.
D
It's quick timing and that's the difference sometimes. And wanted to draft you at one of these higher picks, but I really, really do think there's going to be some guys that rise and some guys that fall. So I think it's going to be interesting, exciting. All the NFL GMS and agents are meeting, so there's a lot of things that are going to go on next week. And, you know, I'm excited to see it all come out.
B
Wingo, what's your 40 time?
D
So let's.
C
Current days. Current day.
D
Current day. I actually think. I think I'm faster than what I ran. I ended up running a 4. 7 at pro day. It was testing a little bit faster, but, you know, that's what everybody says.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
A
I remember when I.
C
The cool thing about the combine, that's
B
what I ran right now, too. That's crazy.
C
Maybe for a chili dog. The cool thing about the combine to me is always like, like Wingo says, probably the most overrated weekend or week in the world. But it's also like, dude, these kids come in there and like go up two rounds or down two rounds based off one week of work. So it's like, it's impeccable for a lot of people. Like pawns. Everybody has the questions about his size or whatever, but he goes out there and runs a 4, 3 jumps, 44 inches. Now we're like, okay, we really don't give a shit that he's 5 10. Like, the kid obviously is a freak. He's going to be able to stack up with these guys. So always look forward more than anything, not seeing the guys that you know are great, but seeing who's going to step up, who's going to stand out and separate themselves and show those traits that are, you know, escalate and throw them up the board.
A
Yeah, I definitely want to talk touch more on. On draft stuff, but Bobby made an interesting statement. Draft week is the most overrated week of all the weeks in the world.
B
Combat. Yeah.
C
The draft is the greatest week of the world. The combine is overrated. The draft, electric.
A
What did I say? Did I say draft? Okay, my bad. I meant combine. I meant combine is the most overrated week of the week. Now I'm curious, like, what other weeks might be very overrated? It doesn't have to be sports related.
C
Overrated.
A
Overrated weeks.
D
Overrated weeks.
B
I don't know.
A
Comments. Let us know if you guys got any
C
or events or events. Let me Try to come up with something here.
B
Right.
A
Pooch, you got anything over there? Overrated weeks? I don't know.
C
That's tough.
B
Listen, I'm.
A
I'm Chad gbt.
B
I'm a big birthday guy, but a lot of people aren't birthday people, so I'm sure they'll be like, my birthday's overrated day.
D
No, no, that's never just a day.
A
Yeah, exactly.
D
Birthday's on Wednesday. It's like, all right, you have a dinner Wednesday.
B
Yeah.
C
Then it's.
D
Then it's Thursday. We're going out Friday, and then Saturday they're going out together. It's like a whole week thing. So that's never. That's never just today.
A
Let me see. I'm chat gbting some of Art Basel. Art Basel here in Miami. I could. I could get behind that being an overrated week.
B
Traffic's crazy.
C
At least that's anything like that. That's like, really not that great. But there's nothing else going on, so everybody tries to flood into one area and just makes it miserable for everybody. Anything like that is overrated.
A
Yes. I mean, I don't know if chat GBT knows that I'm in Miami, but everything it listed here is Miami or.
B
They're tracking you. They're tracking you.
D
They know.
A
All right, well, enough of that tangent right here. So I want to. I want to ask you guys a question, right? One of. One of the notes that we have here, like, how important are interviews in this process? Obviously, we talk about, like, the physical component and, you know, all the statistics, 40, our dash, the vert, you know, strength test, things like that. But how important are these interviews? Like seeing these guys personalities and. And kind of how they are.
D
Yeah. So I would say interview process is the number one important out of everything. Right. When you look at college football, you got guys who can get away with, you know, not being as smart, not knowing the scheme because they. They build it up to be something around that specific player you can get away with playing against. Guys are a little under your size. Let's say you see a SEC team playing a lower level team and, you know, fbs, and you never know. So I think the interview process is what separates everybody. When you look at a guy who can go on the board and write both 22 players on both offense and defense and explain that and not just their positions, but other positions. So I think it's super important for these guys to be able to not only just explain what they're doing it, but how they're doing it and why they're doing it and the other. The other obviously positions around them. And then it just goes back to, you know, what type of person are you. Are you confident in what you're saying? Do you understand what you're saying? And then it's just, you know, if you can. If you can teach something, you know it. Right. And that's what everybody says. And I think that interview process is the key factor. When GMs and coaches look at some of these guys, you know, this is a guy I want to my team because not only is he going to understand and digress the playbook, he's going to be able to teach others, which makes everyone around him better. So I think at the end of the day, if you're able to kill the interview process, you know, your draft stock is going to rise no matter what.
B
Well, there's also like, I remember last year a big thing with Shador, right. Was like that his interviews. I don't know how much truth there is to it, but a big story point was that in his interviews, he. He didn't necessarily kill them or. And honestly, some. Some said that they went very poorly.
A
Yeah.
B
And clearly it, you know, could have had a massive effect on why he dropped as far as he did. Because he, going into that, he was like supposed to go right after Cam Ward. You know, he goes through the whole process, combine interviews, and then he does have a drop. So he's got to be something to it.
A
That is true.
C
Bobby, anytime you. Yeah, anytime you, you know, you go through that process and you, you act like the team needs you and they don't need and you don't need them, and then you get out of the combine and then you tell, you know, teams I'm only meeting or that team because I believe I'm a talk 3 lock. Why would I meet with this team? You know, it's going to rub people the wrong way. I think there's probably a lot more to it than we know. So I'm, you know, I'll leave it at that. But the combine is interesting because it goes both ways. Like Wingo said, you can hide a kid behind a scheme and from the world so long, you put him in that room, you put a whiteboard in front of him, you tell him to draw cover two drop nickel. You tell him to do all these things. You can't hide from that no more. You're right there. We know what you know, we know what you don't know. It takes five seconds.
A
Yeah.
C
Also, I like the little Story lines that come out of the combine. Like, we gave this guy a playbook and told him to look at it and tell us what it was. And we asked him about the last page and we had a ten dollar bill. He didn't see the ten bill, so we know he didn't look at the playbook or, like, you'll hear, like, players, like, I remember DEZ Bryant met with the Dolphins back in the day and they asked him if his mom was a prostitute or something, and he was like, I don't want to be a Dolphin now. These guys are crazy. Like, you hear all kinds of crazy stuff that comes from the combine, and I look forward to that stuff, too.
B
Yeah.
D
I'll say another thing, too, is it's your first impression, right? For the most part, when you look. One thing I always, I look back at is Pete Carroll taking his shirt off with DK Metcalf.
C
Yes.
D
Like something like that. Like, this guy, like, has energy, he's fired up, right. He's getting in there and. And that just starts the meeting off great. So I think, you know, to have a good impression, right, to rub these coaches the right way and just, you know, understand that, no, these guys are going to be obviously your coaches, but you need to find a way to make them like you.
C
And.
D
And obviously doing something crazy can be negative or positive. But hey, I mean, DK Metcalf getting Pete Carroll to take his shirt off, I think was definitely something that fired him up to get him drafted.
C
That's.
A
Yeah, that's electric. Do you think there's teams that, I guess, have better processes, right? I. I feel like there's. There's definitely pretty standard operating procedures when it comes to going through these processes with the draft. But are there teams that just do this better? Right. When it comes to scouting, when it comes to asking the right questions, really getting to learn a lot about these guys, right? Because you can watch all the tape in the world. You could do all the things that pretty much every other team was. But what do you think it is that other teams that, you know, have been very successful, like the Patriots, you know, now Seattle, and, you know, a long list of other teams that have done well in the draft versus teams that, for whatever reason, just cannot figure out the draft? Well, yeah.
D
So I'll tell you this. Look, every single 32 teams is different, right? There is an outline of what it's supposed to look like, but every single organization does things slightly a different way, right? You have those that have a group of people that, you know, make ultimately make the end decisions. Right. They go to the film breakdowns, they go to the interviews. They go, you know, what is 40 time? All these different things. Then you have some organizations that go through that same process, but one of the guys higher up, the GM or head coach, whoever, it might be, like, someone a little bit more just to draft them. So I think that's what separates sometimes having a good draft, you know, and what you're doing is obviously upstairs, the guys who are upstairs making the ultimate decision. You know, is it just one or two specific guys, or is that panel of people that are really putting all their input to be able to make the right decision?
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
C
To piggyback off.
D
Go ahead.
A
No, no, Go, go, go.
C
Piggyback off. What we go said. I think that 80% of the work is already done. If you're hoping to make a decision based off the combine, like, true, most of the work's already been done all year. You've watched these guys. You've been. You got all your scouts going, regional, west coast, east coast, Northeast, Central. They're going all over the place. You got a good board in place. The combine is to make your decision. So, like, you're 80, made up. Like Wingo said, now we go to the combine. I love this dude even more. Maybe Wingo agrees with me. Now after we meet him, maybe I'm like, you know what? You were right. There's a red flags there. I'm off.
A
Yeah.
C
And. And I think that's mostly like the. Where the 20 of the work comes in. 80 of the work's probably already done. You. You know, they always say, go back to the film. If you're in doubt, go to the tape. You know what you got in the tape. So I think 80 of the situation's already established. You just got to meet these guys and see if there's a bond there. See if you can take each other's shirts off and flex and eat gummy bears. You know, that stuff matters, but it's not. At the end of the day, the teams that draft good are always gonna. They were already. That was already decided long before the combine. I mean, they've got the right people in place. They're doing the work year round. They got the right people in the building. I mean, that's just. And honestly, you can have a plan in place, but it's got to go right. Right. You have the same. Let's say you have the same layout for every meeting at the Kanban. But Wingo walks in and he might Hit you with a curveball. Now this meeting is a totally different meeting. So you can have the right stuff in place, but you don't really know what each player is going to bring and how each conversation is going to go.
D
As long as we're not using PFF to ultimately make decision here, that seems
A
to be a, a fan only thing, right? We feel like we're the smartest guys in the rooms when we read these pffs every, every single week and want to rip every player that's not, not highly ranked on that pff. But I mean, how much weight does that even carry at all?
C
Yeah.
A
Is there, is there value to it?
D
Yeah, I think PFF has a lot of value because at the end of the day it shows how consistent you are, right, compared to other guys. You know, you see if you're playing a lower level team and then a high caliber team, you know, are you battle tested? PFF can show, you know, how consistent you were throughout the entire season, you know, up ranked against, you know, different guys, you know, what was your strength of schedule? Who were you playing? So I think it's definitely valuable, but it's something that can also be skewed very well because, you know, if you have someone who, let's say a quarterback, for example, throws for 5, 600 yards a game and has some crazy game, but then is consistently throwing for 100 yards, their average is just statistically going to be higher. So those are things you got to look at. But no, PFF can be very useful and valuable, but that definitely can't be. They'll all say, right to you making your decision in the, the draft for sure.
A
Yeah, it'll be, it'll be interesting week. I think we'll have a lot of story lines that'll come out, out of this week. So excited to, to kind of keep this dialogue going next week and see who, you know, who won kind of in the combine, who didn't win in the combine because you always have those guys. I feels like every year. But outside of that, right, we, we're kind of in this weird transition period into the season. Obviously a lot of teams prepping for the combine, but. But teams are also working on setting themselves up for the offseason, right. We saw what the Dolphins did this, this past week, right. Just pretty much let go of everyone. Mahomes restructured his contract, you know, to open up some cap space. So I want to talk a little bit about like how this whole cap situation works. Right. Everyone calls it like a little bit of smoke and Mirrors like you can manipulate dollars in so many different ways. But you know, some teams are in really crappy situations like we talked about last week, and some teams are, aren't better. So I want to get your thoughts like on the overall cap situation, like kind of what the Dolphins did this week. And are there other teams that are in very similar spots?
D
Yeah, I would say one team that stood out immediately to me was the Kansas City Chiefs. Now you look at somebody like Patrick Mahomes, who's obviously the veteran player, who's the quarterback, is willing to renegotiate his contract in order to save space for the team to whether or not they want to draft a guy, extend another guy. And that's something a lot of these teams are going to be looking for, right? Who won the team are veteran guys that we know that want to be here, want to win football games that we can go to to make a little bit of changes to free up some room, right, for the team to go out and get somebody. And I think that's the important thing. You look at the Dolphins, right? Hoffley and those guys coming in, obviously making, making some cuts and now they're looking, you know, are they going younger? Are they transitioning to a whole new rebuild? Are they looking for a new team, you know, who are they going to draft? And they need to understand that, you know, that costs money. At the end of the day, nothing is free, right. So they got to go out and find ways to free up room in their cap space in order to, you know, obviously they have the 11th pick of the draft. They're going to look to. Are they going to do trades, you know, to maybe go up? I know some of the mock drafts. You see guys like Sony Styles, Caleb Downs, you know, depending upon where they go, have to making sure that they can, yes, obviously afford them, but be able to do the certain trades and extensions and maybe new contracts for those guys that are already down in Miami.
A
Yeah, I mean, Kansas City, we, we know what they're opening up cap for over there. Ricky, Mr. Reek. And they're actually going to bring two over there too. Just in case my home, you know, goes down again.
B
Somebody the trade, please. Yeah, the Reek one. It's crazy because obviously like just outside of like contract wise, right?
A
Reek.
B
We know how good he is, right. In my opinion. I had this argument a couple years ago. I thought he was the best player, non quarterback, best player in the league. But he is coming off a pretty catastrophic injury. So I'm curious, like what his market actually is going to look like he was in Kansas City the other day. Obviously he was. He started there. He won a Super bowl there. So it's everyone's like first prediction is he's going to go back. But I wonder what his market's going to be like coming off of this injury. Like how much is like he's such a speed based player that, you know, I'm curious to see where he lands. I've been seeing a bunch of memes where, where like all the washed up wide receivers, they somehow end up in Tennessee. Like so I'm not saying Greek is watched because Reek was still incredible before he went down last year. But like it's like that, that trend, it was like Julio Jones, DeAndre, they all ended up like there's like, like, like they've been already memeing.
A
Yeah.
B
Reek to death in, in the Titans jersey. So we'll see where he goes. But I'm curious to see what he gets because he is, you know, coming off a pretty good tenant.
A
We talked about Tennessee last week, man. Rig to Tennessee actually could be interesting.
B
I like what they're doing too, but it is, it has been funny. Like it has been a. Yeah. Almost resting place for kind of older receivers.
D
Rick's not going to Tennessee. We got Chimera DK over there just obviously broke the rookie NFL record with Tyreek Stand. He's staying out of Tennessee, man.
A
Well, Reek, I think right after the news broke was on a flight to Kansas City doing a workout.
B
He was there, so no comment. Yeah, he's.
A
He's such a, he's such a troll though, bro. Like he knows like he knows every single thing that he does on social media just to create a reaction. It is genuinely incredible.
B
Yeah.
A
Any other teams you know that we want to keep an eye out now from in cap and just kind of like strategic moves before.
B
Well, for me, the one that's super interesting is the fact that the Seahawks just won the super bowl and they are in the. I think it's the fourth best cap situation.
A
Yes. Yeah, we had mentioned that last week.
B
So they, they're somebody to just like. I'm curious to see what additional moves they make because I mean the team is loaded obviously. They just won the super bowl. So like how much better can that team get?
A
They got to retain a lot of guys. Guys that are, you know, big names that are going to be free agents.
B
Dennis Walker was one that they. They're pretty much gonna. He's super one VP and they're gonna walk it. Supposedly.
D
Yeah. What, what's your. I mean I've seen obviously they're looking at, you know, not tagging them, not re extending. What's your guys thoughts on just, you know, how do you go from a Super Bowl MVP to somebody who led your team to that victory and then be like, hey, by the way, we're going to let you go because we want, we don't want to pay you now even though. Right. We have some of the most cap space that's left to be able to pay guys.
C
I think. Yeah. Normally you don't see an mvp. There was somebody asked that question, how many times has a person won Super Bowl MVP and then got let go the next off season? And it's probably never. Yeah, I mean it might be. I think this is also proof of how bad the running back market is. And also they do have Charbonnet. So like they do have another player person in place and to like, kind of like what Andre was telling David. They have like six studs that are free agents. So like, do you want to keep your defense intact and you have a running back at home? Maybe it's not Kenneth Walker, but you have a running back. You can find a running back. I mean, running backs, you could draft a running back every year in the third round and have a new running back. So they have those questions. It's like, it's not just we have a ton of money, they have to pay six stars. So you're not going to keep everyone. And maybe, you know, unfortunately, Kenneth Walker obviously deserves to get paid, but that might not be where the value stands on their chart. So, you know.
A
Yeah, but like to your point, it's the Super Bowl MVP at the end of the day, right?
C
Like the same.
A
This ain't any other running back. And that's to say that he had a great postseason. Obviously great year, has been great for them all, you know, through the course of the last couple years. But. But it's that whole conversation that we have every year. The running backs just like are the ones thrown to the side. It doesn't matter who you are, what your name is. Like, look at Derrick Henry. Derrick Henry basically didn't even have a market when he left
B
Tennessee.
C
Tennessee.
A
Tennessee, right. And. And then all of a sudden it was like, okay. And then he goes to Baltimore and balls the out because he's a stud, right? So it's like whoever ends up with Kenneth Walker will probably, you know, get a pretty good deal for him and I'm assuming will be very Successful wherever he goes. But it, it is crazy that you're a Super bowl mvp and it's just like, yeah, we're just gonna let you walk.
B
Yeah.
C
I will say they're like 90 of the time. When a team doesn't pay the star running back, they normally don't look like idiots. Like, normally it's like, oh, I see. Okay. Because like, running backs probably had the biggest fall off in NFL. It's probably like the lowest average of prime year. But, you know, Saquon made the Giants look stupid. Obviously Kenneth could do the same. It is though there's a little bit of fact in statistics to back up the research that you don't give a running back a second contract.
A
So then a guy like Devon hn, do you give him a second contract?
C
Well, HN has a little something going for him where like H could literally line up. It's a lot for 17 games and you would never have a drop off. He could literally do that. So to my opinion, him, Gibbs, guys like that have a lot more value because they bring right there. You could go get a stud in the third round and put him at running back and move HN over to slot for 50 of the snaps. And he could do that for you.
B
Right.
C
So HN gives you a little more versatility, a little more option.
D
Yeah, I know it is crazy to see, you know, if it does happen, an NFL or, sorry, a Super Bowl MVP getting, you know, released or whatever it might be. But, you know, looking at Seattle, is it the worst decision? I don't think so. Because when you look at it, you have sharpened, obviously, coming off of an injury. You have, you know, draft picks where you can draft somebody that's a little bit younger. And Seattle is such a complete team. So, you know, obviously losing Kenneth Walker would suck. But there's still so much of a complete team on defense, offense, special teams, that they're going to be able to
B
make up for that.
D
So I think that's the difference. When you looked at, you know, obviously, you know, Derrick Henry leaving Tennessee, you looked at Saquon Barkley leaving the Giants. Yes, but were the Giants good already? No, they weren't. So him leaving the Giants and going to Seattle or Philadelphia, who was a successful team and had Jalen hurts, has all these guys and now is, you know, going crazy and doing his thing and is getting paid. That's great. But you know, Kenneth Walker leaving Seattle, Seattle's already a team who just won the Super Bowl. They're successful, they're winning football games. So I Don't think Seattle's going to look, look stupid if they end up making this decision. 1 Charbonnet 2 you can pick up another guy at running back position because obviously they're, they're the position that gets beat up and beat up the most and it has a less of a lifespan in the NFL.
A
Yeah, no, absolutely, absolutely. Well, yeah, every Bob.
C
Every year in the, every year in the draft, you just see like those running backs just stack up in the third, fourth, fifth round. You can go get a guy. I think Kenneth Walker was a third round running back. So, like, I mean, like, it's just, that's how it works. And also to Wingo's point, you look at Saquon and what he did in Philly, but Philly was prepared for Saquon, right? They had a system in place. They were a sake one away. They had the best O line in football. It does look bad. But like he said, what does he do in New York that year? Like, what if he stayed in New York? What did that really do? Yeah, they probably win six games and it's just like, oh, Saquon's awesome. But like, what are we doing here?
A
No, and then they get Scatterbow and then it's just.
C
Yeah. Hey, that's a, that's a great point you just brought up yesterday. Scatterbo said that. Did y' all hear this? Scatterbo said that he was considering retirement because he looked at like, Puka and Tua. It was happening to these guys. And he's like, dude, I could probably make more money just streaming. It's honestly something you got to consider.
B
Yeah, Honest. I mean, I probably watch. Yes. 100. He's like, must watch. Like who? Scatterball. If he went into streaming, like, I'm sure he'd make a ton of money. Like, he would be told he's fine. Like, he'd be fine. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
A
I mean, I wonder what his longevity in the NFL is, bro.
B
Him and Dart too, because Dart's another
A
one that it's not even like his football. Well, yeah, Dart too, but it's not even his football field stuff. It was like at Arizona State, just banging your head into a concrete wall. Like he's giving himself his own.
B
Those are guys that I need on the Dolphins.
A
I need Headbanger.
C
You already. You have one who. You pay him $52 million.
B
Oh, oh, yeah.
A
But that's very different approach to getting. Exactly.
B
Oh, man.
A
I also realized that we were supposed to start with hockey. Did we get enough of the hockey in the early window. Or.
B
Or no, I noticed the jerseys going
D
on and we haven't. We gotta spin it back.
A
Yeah, let's bring it back. Let's talk some USA Hockey. Talk to boys. Dave just went straight to NFL combine, so that's on me. Let's talk USA Hockey. Electric. Electric overtime win.
B
Oh, my God. Dude, that was. I'm gonna be honest with you. Like, I. I was a little bit nervous. Like, I was nervous because I was like, this is this. First off, they're a good team, right? It's a full NHL team. Right? And. And like, the 3 on 3 overtime is truly anybody's game because it's like, it opens up the entire ice and it's just like. I mean, you can see. You saw the. How many shots they got, how many shots we had. Like. Like, it's not like five on five where you can go periods without even having a shot on goal. Like, if you're not having shots on goal on three on three, like, you're just probably a terrible team. So it was. It's one of those that, like, anything can happen. But then Quinn Hughes stepped the hell up. Man, that was awesome. And then I think that was because we didn't really play very well in that game, to be honest. Like, we. We had been playing well up to that point, but we were a bit sloppy. And the fact that, like, I'm hoping this is. That was like the wake up call of like, hey, you know, we're here to. To go for gold. Like, we can't slip up now.
A
Yeah.
B
So I thought that game was electric. I'm very excited for today's game. And then obviously, if we win today, Sunday morning, actually, let me check it.
A
Yeah, I was gonna say, how's that Canada Finland game going right now? Canada, because that's 8am on Sunday. Who do we play?
B
We play. Oh, they're still down two, one.
A
Okay. I mean, it's a game.
B
Wow. How much.
A
How much time left?
C
I don't know.
B
This.
A
I don't know.
B
The Olympics thing doesn't. Doesn't tell me.
A
Yeah.
B
Time stuff. But today we're playing Slovakia. By the way, just answer.
A
Okay?
B
Answer that part of it.
A
It looks like it's 19 minutes in. In the third right now. 18.
B
So they got a full third period.
A
Yeah.
B
But. Yeah, that's great. I mean, listen, there's two things, right? Obviously, if Canada were to lose today, like, it's obviously a quote unquote easier path for us, but I don't care. I want Canada. I want Canada. I Want. I want to steal the gold from Canada. Our little neighbors up there, little neighbors in the north. All right, we are coming. Yeah, you had your little Four nations moment. This is the big leagues, baby. All right, this is America. All right, this is. This is. You're lucky if we don't conquer you after this damn thing. All right. Coming for you, Canada. We're freaking coming, man.
A
For anyone that doesn't know, last year, Dave went on another rant about usa. What was it for, though?
B
It was. It was. No, it's for the four nations.
A
There you go.
B
We won the four nation. Like that. We won the game and that final. They won it overtime, and it was incredible. But I. I did have to bring out the. This guy that you see here, absolutely fourth. Nothing gets me going like supporting the nation's teams.
A
All right?
B
Like, when it comes to hockey, the World Cup, I don't care.
A
Yeah.
B
All right. You got the USA jersey.
A
We.
B
We forget about everything. All right? Who cares what's happening? That's my damn country, baby.
C
Come on.
B
So, yeah, especially. And obviously there's, you know, we're not talking politics and stuff, but there's a lot. There's a lot of noise between Canada and the U.S. all right? So it just added a little feel to the fire. We, you know, we decided to. Well, I decided to really go after a nation and. And they let me have it. I'll tell you that.
A
I wish we could pull up those comments.
B
Yeah. When we lost, that was the first time I have it ever explained experience. Like, the dms, the. The hate mail. Like, people were coming after me.
A
Dude, people were making comments about your wife and like that or. No, no. What did they say? They're like, this guy could never get a wife. And we're all, like, tagging his wife in the comments.
B
No, we. I was going back and forth and in the dms. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was like, the first, like, experience. I'm like, man, imagine if I was, like, actually really famous. Like. Like, imagine what these people get every day. Like, I got, like, a small taste of it. I'm like, these. This is crazy. Yeah, but I love it, baby. Bring it on.
A
We then proceeded to boost it into Canada just to give him some extra.
B
Yeah, we did do that.
A
Yeah, we did target all of Canada. So Dave. Dave's definitely got a wanted sign in.
B
In Canada, I'm not allowed. I'm not allowed in the country. So they have a wanted poster for me in there. But, Wingo, you're also a fellow jersey wearer. Give me your thoughts on this Olympic run so far. And we were thinking, let's go.
D
We go, Dave. Let me, let me, let me tell you something real quick. So I woke up this morning at 5am you want to know what? I turned on my TV first. This great, amazing movie called Miracle.
B
Yes.
D
And there was a few words that were said. I had to skip to the end of the movie a little bit, but there was a few words that were said. Great moments are born from great opportunity. And I'm fired up for our free.
B
I'm getting goosebumps.
D
I'm getting three o' clock today. I'm ready to kind of get after it. Seeing these guys have an opportunity at gold. Women's obviously winning yesterday.
B
Yes, yes, yes.
D
Huge for us. So, you know, I think, you know, the men having the opportunity today is huge. Right? Obviously, I'm with you. I'm with Dave. I want Canada regardless. They better win this game. I'm almost rooting for them just because, yeah, I want to play them on Sunday morning at 8:00am Eastern Time. So wherever we are, if we have to go to elbow Room. Yeah, we got to go somewhere at 8 in the morning to watch USA Whoop up on our little brothers up north.
B
Yes.
D
We're gonna be able to get it done.
B
Oh, wingo. Somebody play Free Bird right now. We just got me hyped. I want Canada so bad.
C
Yeah, I want.
B
They better win this damn game. Canada, you better win today.
A
I'm waiting for the goal to happen live just so Dave can go crazy.
B
Wait a second.
A
It's 2:1, so.
B
Oh, my God. I think says 0.
A
0. Oh, they took away the goals.
B
I'm talking about the time.
A
No, it's 15 minutes. 15 minutes.
D
All right, we're good, we're good.
A
Unless this shit's like super behind over here, but yeah.
B
Listen, little bro, meet us there, bro.
A
So does. Does hockey run through the US Now?
B
It will on Sunday. I'll tell you that much.
A
Hockey runs through Florida.
D
I'll tell you what, we forgot to mention them. We forgot to mention the all time best duo of brothers. Right? The Chuck brothers lead the way. You know, I saw a video talking about guys, what their rankings were on NHL and I, I think the one of them was that was their lowest ranking was like temptation or something or discipline. Right. Just to punch somebody in the face, get guys fired up. I'll tell you what, those two brothers are something special, you know, every time to be able to go out for obviously, United States and work together and do something crazy, you Know, obviously our guy Matthew representing the hometown for Panthers, you know, two time back to back Stanley cup champions.
B
Oh, yeah.
D
These two brothers get me fired up and, you know, I. I want to get on the ice myself at this point.
B
Oh, yeah. Hell freaking yeah.
A
Outside of hockey, have. Have the boys watched any other events? I know we had. Yes, curling. Curling, Absolutely. Curling on camera. We found out last week is probably not the best thing to, you know, what's the hands boys showcase on? You know, it just doesn't. Doesn't demonstrate well on camera.
C
Clip it. I don't care. I'm married. What's the worst that can happen? Watch the hands, boys. Watch hands. I was gonna ask y', all, though.
D
Get it out.
C
Sorry, I got a weird text message.
A
You got a weird text.
C
No, that was actually the Canada president talking about David. Anyways. Or what do they call it? They don't call it a president. They call it prime minister. Yeah, I think it's prime minister.
B
Yeah. The governor 51 is what they call him.
C
I told him to pipe down from those tariffs. What the hell was I gonna say now? Jesus Christ. What the hell was I saying?
A
I don't know. You were gonna ask us something. You're like, I gotta ask you guys something.
C
Oh, what was the scandal with the Canada curling team?
A
Oh, I didn't see that. He double touched. They were cheating. I don't know where it netted out, but the other team, I forget who it was, was accusing them of cheating for double touching. I don't know what.
C
Well, they said they had a history of it, so they said they set up to make sure to watch it at that segment of the. The drop or whatever. And like, they were like, dude, you're still doing. You're doing it. We're watching you. He's like, what do you mean?
A
I don't think he got penalized. I think they just accused.
B
They won the gold.
A
Did they win?
B
They won gold. Huge ass.
A
Huge ass. So Canada's got a cheat to win, apparently.
B
Listen, this is what I'll tell you.
C
Hold on, let me say this, though. If you don't get caught, you wasn't cheating, dog. In my opinion. But they didn't get called because they. They got caught by the guy losing. They didn't get caught by the people that matter.
A
Yeah, I guess.
B
Listen, this is what I'll say about Canada too. For a country that's like, you know, a cold country, like, they're a cold. They. They're cold up there. I'll tell you what they're Locking in their gold medals. All right. I'll tell you that much. You know, we're. I think we're lapping them at this point. I think we've got triple the. The medals that they do, you know. Canada. Oh, Canada.
C
Remember that?
B
What was the song? It was. I did their national anthem, but then I. I flipped it onto us.
C
Oh, man.
B
Yeah.
A
Norway is actually technically wedding.
B
The land of Hovland. Yes. No, no way.
D
Norway.
A
I'm just gonna pull out a dub this weekend at Genesis.
B
He had a nice start. He had a nice start.
A
Yeah. So you say every weekend. Then where is he on Saturday? Hey, what the hell? Where is he on Saturday? He was bitching about his tree. We'll talk Genesis in a little. Bitching about his tree. What the.
B
He's a content machine, dude.
A
He's a meme.
B
He's a meme.
A
But, yeah, that about does it for. For Olympic talk. So we'll see what happens this weekend with some USA Hockey, and hopefully the boys are celebrating on Sunday. But let's pivot from a pretty crazy story over at IMG Academy. For those don't know, Big high school, you know, one of the. Most of you probably know, but if you don't know.
B
Yeah.
A
One of the biggest high schools down here in Florida, one of the biggest breeding grounds for sports, you know, across the whole nation. Was gonna read this. IMG Academy, world renowned sports boarding school in Bradenton, has agreed to pay a 1.72 million fine after federal investigators discover the school has spent years taking tuition money from individuals linked to the Mexican drug cartel. What the hell? Insane. Insane. You know, after doing a little bit of digging to understand the situation. Right.
B
Obviously, when you caught, like, so.
A
So apparently there's like, a system, right, where, you know, you. You. You have to. To. You have to track all these payments that come in.
B
Right.
A
And. And make sure that they're viable money.
B
And.
A
And it's coming from clean dollars and all that stuff. They don't. They didn't do that, essentially, but apparently the people that are there are parents of athletes at the school. And what. They're not a. They're not part of the cartel, but they give money to the cartel every single year.
B
So we know.
A
Right, Right. They're not with the cartel.
B
Right.
A
But essentially they get this.
B
This.
A
These two families give money to the cartel every single year. That's crazy how that works. And so essentially, they got flagged in the system, right. As people that should have never been able to pay tuition to the school. But IMG apparently Didn't know, Right. Quote, unquote. And was. Was taking money from these families for over the course of the last couple years, and it was just them basically paying tuition. It's not like the cartel directly was giving them money, but these are people that have some sort of affiliation because they've given money to the cartel and they should have been flagged a minute ago, but didn't. So it is. It is insane. It. You know, the headlines were like, the cartel gave them money. Right. Which right would have been a show. I mean, the fact that there's even a connection to the cartel in. In like high school sports. Like, I think that's what we want to talk about here, right? Like, how much of this maybe is going on across all of sports, Right. Like, we've heard, like, I remember early on with the golf stuff, right. With the Saudis, right. And how the Saudis and all this dirty money and people were like, how are we going to take money from the Saudis? Like, clearly, everybody wants to get into sports, right? So how much you think dirty money is involved in sports?
C
If that's a great question for Wingo.
D
Yeah, listen, listen, I'm just here to play football and that's nothing. But, you know, hey, when you look at it, you know, money is money and these sports schools are generating so much money. And, you know, if you got, you know, old Jimmy at the park who's a great ball player, and you want to get him to an organization like img, right? How do you find a way to do that?
B
Right.
D
Obviously, there's going to be cases where, you know, some things are illegal and some things are illegal. People are definitely doing it out there, you know, img, obviously one of the most prestigious schools all around the country. You know, I went to St. Thomas, so I didn't have a chance to play IMG. You know, I always got pissed off at the. The rankings of them as one, knowing they can do all the recruiting and all that kind of stuff. But, yeah, you know, they list this as this headline as the, you know, drug cartel being involved. You know, it baffles me to even think that this isn't something going on at other places. It has to be, right? The. These people show up sometimes with money. How do you afford this tuition and all these things that you have, you know, and obviously now we know IMGs might be dealing with the cartel, but, you know, it's crazy to know. I feel like it passed over so fast, right? It's like, we heard about it, they paid the fine and Now.
A
Yeah.
D
So I. I feel like there's some more questions and some things we don't know about that we're waiting to kind of 100, but I feel like it just came and went really, really, really fast, and no one really knows anything.
A
Yeah, Yeah. I don't know. Have you guys seen that show Landman on Paramount?
B
I've heard about it.
A
Yeah. A great show, but great family, like. Yeah, great family. But, I mean, there is, like, that, you know, when you talk about, like, money is money at the end of the day, right? And one of the things that happens in that show, it's like, you know, long story short, basically the cartel and the oil people share the same land, right? Like, and they've basically, like, been able to operate without getting in each other's way. But then starts happening, and then it exposes a bunch of. But, like, the lead cartel guy basically is funding later on in the show, all the oil business. And they, like, we don't. We know that your money is dirty money, but it's like, money's money at the end of the day. So you could say it's drug money, but, you know, it's really money coming from all these other things. And he's just moving his money through. Through. Through oil, right? So in this instance, it's almost like maybe people are just. It's dirty money, but they also have legitimate businesses and they're moving their money through. Through sports. So to to Wingle's point, I do think a lot of this is happening, right? But it's not Paulo Escobar saying, hey, here's $10 million IMG.
D
You know, when I think about money, too, it's been everywhere, right? You might reach a dollar in your wallet. You have no idea where that dollar came from. Yeah, I don't think Pablo Escobar was knocking on IMG's door to be like, hey, can I pay for some of your kids to go to school here? But, you know, it's crazy to think about, you know, some of the things that we don't know about if and will something come out about IMG with some more details and, you know, really what was actually happening.
A
I will say this. The FBI might be showing up here at any given moment because it just recorded my whole conversation on my Apple Watch about cartel Pablo Escobar.
C
Hey, they're gonna. They're gonna walk.
A
My Apple watch would go off on that time. Like, what the hell?
C
They're gonna walk in and see David in that. That get up and go, oh, yeah, these Boys are up to no good.
B
And wait. And wait till I send Pablo Escobar. If I just did a whole USA
A
rant about anti Canada. Oh, boys, we're cooked.
B
We're cooked.
A
We're so cooked.
B
We're cooked.
C
Well, I'll say this. There's. There's some scandal, but something good came out yesterday. An awesome story. Florida Senate passed a. An act called the Teddy Bridgewater act, allowing coaches to use personal funds to assist players. And I think that's a win. That's an awesome.
D
Okay, so wait, I just want to get back to this. Teddy Bridgewater was punished for something that you now made a rule for and are me so, you know, huge to Teddy Bridgewater, you know, bridging the gap. Right. Making a difference so that these people can, you know, help some of these athletes, whether or not it's equipment travel and getting to practice, getting a game stuff for their family. Now, this is something that is allowed. You know, we think about nil and. And college football in high school. You're telling me your head coach can't, you know, go buy you a meal down the street or get you an Uber to practice?
C
Yeah. That's crazy.
D
Yeah. Kudo to Teddy Bridgewater for. For bridging the gap and, you know, doing the. Doing the punishment for something that is now going to be super highly credited and condoned for coaches all around the country.
A
Yeah. No, and it was always crazy at that time when that happened.
C
Yeah, I think it was always crazy. I think it was like, probably like y' all asked how IMG got called. Probably a hater. There's always a hater. You know, Derek Wingo's parents are mad because they're not, like, number one. They're calling the ice lines. They're trying to do it whatever they can. It's. But they go and win at a high level, and all of a sudden. Well, of course they did. They got NFL money funding the whole thing. No, it's like this dude's back in his community helping kids out. Who cares? He's buying lunch and paying for Ubers.
A
Yeah.
C
He's not giving them $2 million in a Cadillac.
A
Like, that's not the first time some like that. Like, a coach has done something like that. Right? Like, oh, for sure.
C
But, like, not saying that's illegal. Like, you know, how many times our coaches, like, all right, so, like, in high school, everybody knew, game day, bring $10. That's gonna pay for your team meal or whatever. If you didn't, though, they, like, they. They patched the difference, the team, the coaches all came together, paid the difference. We did fundraisers and stuff, but, like, they came out of pocket a lot.
D
No, Bobby, you can't have team meal.
C
Exactly my point. So I was like, what do you. What? I don't know what they're expecting here. That's just kind of crazy.
A
Yeah. I mean, we're glad we're on this side of it, Right. Like, the fact that it wasn't a thing before is a problem. Teddy, you know, set the tone and provided the example of, like, this is necessary, and maybe even knew that there was the. The risk of the punishment that he got. But here we are, and we should have been here a while ago. I think is. Is really 100 the thought on this.
B
I do have one. One thing. Just. It's. Sorry, not even on this topic. Breaking news.
A
Canada tied it.
B
Canada tied it up, so.
C
Oh, you could have saved that.
A
I knew you. I knew you were gonna say that, but yeah, that. That story. Crazy story. Let's talk some golf now, right? We had a big week at pebble last week. Great tournament. Honestly, electric, you know, it was awesome. Crazy ending.
D
I was waiting for Scotty. I. I mean, I was.
C
Yeah. Yes.
A
I know we always got to find a way to talk about Scotty, but it is crazy. The Sunday that he had, he had a great.
B
Whatever he.
D
He did or whatever he ate for whatever cereal it was, whatever he put in his milk. I mean, to see him, you know, Eagle, that last shot to get to 20 under was. Was something special.
A
Clubhouse leader.
D
And when I was listening to, you know, the broadcast of it, right. It's like they had no doubt that he was going to do that. He was right. He was at 18 under, and it was like, oh, when Scotty Eagles this on 18th, he's going to put him at 20 under. And I'm sitting there like he hasn't even picked out his club yet to hit the ball. And he came out, picked his club, hit it, and darted it, you know, five feet from the hole and made it for Eagles. So, you know, he's something special. And that tournament was. Was definitely electric to watch.
A
Yeah.
D
With, you know, the environment, the weather obviously being an issue. The wind and the rain. Such a hard course. What a tournament to be able to watch.
A
Yeah, I think Scotty had three bogeys on Sunday, too, and still shot at 63. Unreal. If he plays choked a cleaner round,
B
you know, someone say choked, play clean. Scotty, he went.
A
He could have won that tournament by two strokes. Even with the day that he shoot
D
on what it was Friday, a 72.
A
That's the thing that's been. That's what's been killing him. The Thursday round, by the way. Even today again.
B
Wait, even. Yeah.
A
Or yesterday.
B
Yesterday. Five over.
A
He finished.
B
He's last place. And I'm curious if. See where he's at now. But he's.
A
Yeah, he was like two over, and
B
this one's got a cut, so.
C
Oh, that's what I always say. If Scotty came out strong from the beginning, no one would ever have a chance. It wouldn't even be close.
A
No, he.
C
This dude, like, doesn't wake up to
A
a midday Friday tournament, so he must have finished two, three over here.
B
So he must have. Yeah.
A
Cut lines plus four. So.
B
Because they. Well, what happened was that he was plus five in last place, and then they. They ended it. They pot. And he resumed this morning.
A
He's okay. He's one under through one. So here he comes.
D
Yeah.
A
Yeah, here he comes. But we got to talk about Colin Morikawa, right? He struggled a lot last year. And. And I say struggled, he didn't have a bad year. But for Colin's standpoint, Colin, you know, obviously was always at the top of these leaderboards week over week a couple years ago, and we saw the call in that. That has made Colin so great. Great with his irons, great with the short game when the putter's on. He. He's there now, up there with. With. With guys like Scotty, obviously. And, And. And seeing him play at that level is like what we've seen with guys like Colin. Right? Guys like Victor Hovland, guys like Sahita Gala. Right. Other guys that need to now be the guys that can contend with Scotty. Right? Got her up, right? One of the hotter golfers last year already has a win this year.
B
Two.
A
Two.
B
I think God has two wins this year already.
A
Really? Oh, wow.
B
That guy's on fire.
A
He's on fire. He finished. He finished last year on fire. He's again on fire this year. I think he finished top 10, top 15 last week, and he was up there in the leaderboard. But other guys like Jake Knapp, a Batia, right? Batia is on fire Thursday through Saturday. Thursday, Friday. Really? Saturday he's cooled off. And then Sunday, he. He puts together kind of. You don't know. Right. But he's a guy that you figure has got to win at some point. Yesterday, I know he started off hot. I don't know where he's at this weekend. Right. But, you know, you got A lot of guys that are off to hot starts that found rhythm going into it. And you know, you're back to back now. Two signature events, right. Pebble last week and now Genesis Riviera, which weather was a show. It is cure. Like, I want to get your thoughts on like the signature events, right. Obviously Stacked fields, there was not a cut line this week. There's kind of a cut line this week. But what are your thoughts on it? And the fact that back to back shows, like, okay, we're really gonna push for these.
B
I, I personally love them.
A
Yeah.
B
To be honest, I think it's cool that you have these. It makes people care about other events, right. Like guys like us, like, we're gonna watch it anyway, right. We watch every random tournament weekend that that's on. But when you have these signature events, it brings more value to a Genesis, which is just a cool course.
A
Yes.
B
The Arnold Palmer, you know, the Memorial pebble, like, it makes these count even more. And then it gives, you know, you're still having the other events, right, that people are still playing in. Right. It doesn't matter signature or not, but you're also get giving like, not the, the top players yet a chance to get into those signature events to then compete.
A
Yes.
B
So I like, I like it. At first I was kind of curious, like, how is this going to work? Are people only going to play the signature events? But you've seen it. Guys are still playing the other. Are they playing it as consistently as probably the past? Probably not. But it's also at the same time giving other guys opportunities to compete. And then, you know, you have some of these really cool stories that then launch them into these signature events. So for me, I'm a fan of them and obviously it's cool they're playing for so much money at this point. And like, the, the purses are big, so these guys are like, I mean, obviously you want to win every tournament, but these guys are like, you know you want. It just gives these other events outside of the majors and the players, because it's kind of the fifth unofficial major, but it gives them more value in the sense of like, now you win an Arnold Palmer, you win a Genesis. And it's like, maybe it's not the level of a major, but it's a level above a lot of other tournaments.
A
Yeah, the purse is nice. The points are nice. Like, yeah, it does create kind of like an exclusivity from like a fan perspective. Like you're only getting the best of the best.
B
Right.
A
So you know you're going to see some of the best golf there. The field's going to be that much more competitive. There's the, I guess the counter to all of this is like these guys, right, that are 120, 130 fighting for their PGA Tour cards are letting. Are having less chances now to be able to have a chance to play in a signature event, play in the playoffs and even deeper, hold their PGA Tour card and somebody brought something up. Interesting is that this is going to force another golf league to come to life. Is Liv going to then take a lot of these 100 to 140 guys and then just become the other golf league? Yeah, that's, that's an interesting, like.
D
Yeah, I think that could definitely be possible. You know, one thing I think people don't realize is these golfers are tremendous athletes.
A
Yeah.
D
Right. When you realize that you're playing, you know, three, four days in a row, you're playing 18 holes all the way to whatever it might be, all four days, it's a lot on your body. And to play tournaments back to back can be very difficult. I can't imagine. Right. I struggle to get through 18 sometimes. So I think when you look at these younger guys who are looking for opportunities. Right. I can see Liv pivoting right over to adding some of these younger guys for the talent wise and to just get some more people over there. I think it provides an opportunity because I don't think Liv's going to be able to last just because, you know, if you think about how they got started was the big flashy money and paying a few of the top guys to come over.
B
Right.
D
When, when you talk to some of these guys and, you know, you look at them when they are on tour and they're doing it, it almost looks like they're not having as much fun when they're over at Live. Obviously, Live supposed to be the, the fun part of golf and it's a little bit more laid back, but they understand that when you're looking at guys over in the tour, it's like, oh, you're not as respected as what they say. Right. So, you know, I think Liv's got to make a few changes and I don't see guys lasting long over at Live just going over there for some of the money and then coming back to money grab. Yeah, the money grab. Being over to go back and, and, you know, play with those top guys and tour.
A
Yeah, yeah. They lost Brooks already. There's that. And then you got Bryson, you know, Rom. Which are the other two big names?
B
Rom. Cam Smith.
A
Yeah. But Cam and Haddon are the biggest. Cam Smith guy and Waco. Yeah. Wa Wa is an interesting one, so.
B
Well, he needs to just do it at the majors.
A
Right, but exactly.
B
Yeah, exactly.
A
Because that's the thing. These guys could still play at the majors as long as they qualify. Yeah, obviously.
B
Well. And now they have the, they get the world.
A
They get the world. The world rankings now. So they get points there so they can play themselves in. So the majors are the majors and they will always be the majors. They seem, those seem to be, you know, untouched and not, not really affected. Right. It's the battle between the PGA Tour
B
and LIV and Yeah.
A
You know, who's going to get the guys. PGA Tour has taken a stronghold.
B
Yes.
A
And it's going to be interesting to. What happens with Bryson DeChambeau? What happens with John Rom. The next guy could see he's been kind of quiet. Right. Dechambell's still been like a, a supporter of LIV and kind of been behind them. But Patrick Reed now also gone.
B
Oh, right, right. That's another big booking on the DP cooking.
A
He won last weekend.
C
Yeah.
B
No, no. He's on fire.
A
So he'll be playing in majors. Right. And then he'll be 27 eligible. So it's curious to see these big names, like to your point, Wingo that took the money or it's a, it's not sustainable. Right. So if they come to the Tour, then really what does the live become? But they could take on a lot of these other guys.
B
I will say though that LIV did just get a huge, huge win with Anthony Kim.
C
Yes.
B
The Anthony Kim story and his win at Live Adelaide.
A
Two wins. That was a huge one. From a storytelling. Exactly.
B
From storytelling aspect of it. It's like that was such a huge moment, honestly. Like I, I, I, I wish I nominated him for due to the week because that story of his comeback to now. Yeah.
A
He honestly deserves to be Dude.
B
Yeah. That, that was such a cool way to see. And also the way he did it, the fact that it was between him, Ron Bryson and he smoked those guys four back.
A
Yeah. And he on Sunday.
B
Absolutely obliterated them on Sunday. And like from where he was last year, he was awful. Like he was the worst.
A
He almost didn't make out. Like over.
C
Yeah.
A
Over 2, 000 in the rankings.
B
He would. He literally almost got relegated from LIV to then this season. Getting his first win in how many years of just playing golf? Like, yeah, it's an awesome story and that. That's like. Yes, you know that that was great for them. So, like, I'm curious but like, how much does that goodwill go for? And then also like you said, like, it really is all on the shoulders of a Bryson Rom.
A
Yeah.
B
If they live loses those guys, it's. I mean, it's kind of over.
A
I don't know what they did apparently recently, like right before the season start also get the number one college golfer.
B
They did do.
A
Yes, they did get. So that's obviously big for the sake of like the future and yeah, if they start getting guys like that. But it is. We're always going to have this conversation. Right. But it is interesting to see when you guys got like Anthony Kim win and like the storytelling behind that and everyone rallied behind that. And honestly, it almost felt like it was a bigger storyline than Colin winning Pebble Beach.
B
Right.
A
But deserved at the end of the day. Right. So it'll be interesting. But real quick, who do you got for Genesis this week? Any, Any, any. Of course you're gonna go. Victor Hovland. Why do I even ask?
D
I got. I got one for you.
C
His.
D
His name is Min.
A
Oh, he balled out last week.
B
Dude.
A
He.
B
I mean, he could have.
D
He.
A
He could have won.
B
Yeah, he had a wonder. He was close.
A
Where is Menwoo right now? Let's see.
B
I don't know, but I'll tell you where Hov is. He was three back going into day two.
A
Two under. Hasn't teed off yet. So he's four back, but hasn't teed off yet today. Matt Fitzpatrick is in the lead right now, but it's already four under for today.
B
Yeah, I have a Fitzpatrick ticket.
A
Oh, nice.
B
I do have Fitzpatrick ticket.
A
My ticket is on. Where is he? He was. He was up there yesterday. I don't see him. Oh, Mr. Sam Burns. I finished one under yesterday, but hasn't teed off yet today. So we shall see. Minwu like that pig Batia's up there again. Rory one back. Don't love that. And hasn't teed off yet.
D
Yeah.
B
Yeah. Roy had a good day.
A
Yeah. But we'll see. Electric, electric, electric start to golf. And that takes us to our debate of the week. Who and this is a Bobby shout out. Bobby, this was good. I like. This is. This is fire. Most underrated athlete right now.
C
You know, you could give me credit for the topic, but it's not an easy to me.
A
But I really liked it. I'm like that makes my head spin a lot.
C
Yeah. Because I actually Try to think about it. I'm in the shower, I'm like, I think it's easier to talk about like all time, most underrated players, but like to think modern day. I mean, I think that's tough. I think just the easy one. Obviously. I watch the Dolphins a lot and I compare these together.
A
Okay.
C
I think underrated's got to be. You could time together. Aaron Brewer and Patrick Paul. You know Aaron Brewer, when he came here, people thought, who is this guy? He's undersized, he's never going to hold it down in the middle. He's turned into an all pro center. Like he does his thing week in and week out. Patrick Paul, when we drafted him, everybody said, what? At this high? Like, what are you doing? He had bad tape, bad feet, bad hand placement, raw as can be. They had no shot at development. And then he sit behind Armstead for one year and he starts this year for the first time and he's just plug and play, forget about it. So to me, I think both of those guys are highly underrated. And Patrick Paul a little deserving. I mean, first year starting. Yeah, I get that. But nonetheless, those guys are awesome.
A
Brewer for sure, I mean, didn't even make the first. The all. What is it? The Pro Bowl?
B
Pro Bowl.
A
But it was like first team, all Pro. Like make it make sense, you know, I gotta.
D
I got an underrated athlete for you. Not just somebody in specific, but all hockey players. I think hockey is one of the most.
B
I agree.
D
For one, you're learning how to be coordinated to skate. You're hit, you're hitting each other, you're using the puck, you're. There's so many different things that go into hockey I think is very difficult. And then we got to give a shout out to our boy Chucky, right? When you look at somebody who was coming off an injury, right, he was out for most of the season, comes back to play with the Panthers, and then just gets thrown right into this, this trip with United States. I mean, shout out to him. I think people aren't giving him the kudos that he deserves there. Obviously he's a top player in the NHL, but look at someone who was just coming off a major injury, got back midseason for his regular season team, is now playing for the Olympics. I think. I think that's something definitely that hasn't been highlighted as much going into how difficult hockey really is for guys and the toll that they take on their bodies. I mean, you get to the end of the season, you realize that you have six bruised ribs, a concussion. You have all these no teeth.
A
Teeth.
D
You got fake teeth in and dentures. So I think that's something that's definitely underrated that people don't realize.
B
Yeah. To piggyback on you, Wingo, I like.
A
That's a great.
B
That's. I was actually gonna go the hockey route as well. And the fact that you took all the hockey players is actually like. It's true, though. It's the most underrated sport.
A
And obviously playing with like broken sternums.
B
Crazy. It's crazy. But for me, kind of like you mentioned Chucky. Right. Somebody who I don't think is as underrated anymore because of the run that we've had these last two years. But people are always, always sleeping on Barkov. Right. And Barkov is somebody that in these two years people have come to realize obviously how good he is now. Right. He's not as underrated as he was maybe just two years ago, but Barkov has been this guy for years, like eight years at this point. And, and I think it's even. You're even seeing it now with this current Panthers team. Like, obviously we've missed him the entire year. And not that, like, we're not like fully struggling, struggling, but like we're, we're going to have to make a big push again to the playoffs. And missing Barkov is such a huge piece. So I think, like, in pairing with Chucky, because Chucky's also been out, like how important those two guys are to us, but also just like league wise because everyone talks about obviously McDavid, dry seidel, like, in my opinion, I think Barkov is the second best player in the NHL. And that's my take. I. I think Barkov, Connor McDavid is number one. Like, he is. He's ridiculous. Barkov, for me, I think is. It should be in the discussion for the second best player in the NHL. And he, he's rarely was in that conversation now. He's kind of entered it in terms of like, people consider him like probably top five, I would assume five range. But I think he's number two. So.
A
Yeah, no, I, I agree. Hockey players are at another level as far as like athletic abilities.
B
Yeah.
A
Because they're doing all that on ice.
B
Yeah.
A
Like, yeah. It's insane.
D
People don't want to do that on land, you know.
A
You know what's funny is that, by the way, underrated. Well, you know what? I'm gonna make this as my take.
B
Okay.
A
I'll make it after all.
B
Right. One of the One of the early things. You guys remember the show Sports Science.
A
Yeah. Yes. Great.
B
So one of my favorite. I just. I remember this, like, vividly, is they had a thing about what sport, like, who sweats the most after a game, and the winner was actually hockey. Like, they had technically the least amount or one of the least amount of time because they're always interchanging. But even those short spurts that they're on there, they are. They are doing so much. Exactly. That they actually. Even being in the ice, in the cold, they are. They finish a game and, like, they are the one, the most. The sweatiest athletes of all. And then two, you look at, like, you hear stories of. Of these goalies who will drop, like, £15 in a game, throughout a game. Like. And they're. You just think, like, they're just right. All those little moves constantly being like, it's draining.
A
You're. You're balancing the whole time. Like, you got to be engaged at all times. You're not on flat land. Like, it's. It's absurd.
B
It is crazy.
A
Which I was gonna go, you know, very similar route to, like, Wingo General, you know, general athlete, which I'm gonna give him a little love.
B
Right.
A
Is. Is those PGA Tour guys that are 100, 140, right, where shit's coming out of their pocket. No one's really seeing the grind that, you know, those guys are going. And they're expensive, fighting to make cuts. It's expensive. You pay for your travel, you pay for your caddy, you pay for your coach, right? All these things. You might get some sponsors and stuff like that that help eat some of the costs throughout the year. But those guys are grinding, right? And you've seen guys like Jake Knaps, right, that they come out of nowhere, 150 plus, and then all of a sudden are now in the thick of it and making a ton of money, right? But it is a grind to be those guys. But when we were having this hockey talk, the referees, bro, are freak athletes, bro.
B
Yes.
A
Those pucks are coming under. They're jumping up in the air, landing smooth on their feet, dodging pucks, sprinting up and down the ice. Like, talk about athletes, bro. Those. I picture myself being a referee on ice, and you're just thinking, oh, you just gotta watch the game, make sure no penalties, break up a fight here or there. No, bro, those guys. Every time I see that guy jump clear in the air over a puck and land won the instinct to react in real time to a puck coming God knows how Fast at you and then land on the ice and then just keep moving like if nothing happened. Breaking up fights, being in the thick of it. Physical.
B
Always on. On the ice, up and back.
A
Up and down, bro. And they. They don't have those intermission periods, you know, like, some of these players have, like, obviously intermission of the actual periods ending, but, like, they're not getting on and off the ice. Like, they're up and down the whole time. So shout out the refs and hockey, because is. It. Is impressive what. What they do.
B
Yeah. Well, since. Since you are. Oh, go. Go for Bob.
C
I was just. Me and Joe was actually on the phone this morning, and we were talking about the kid from Oregon coming out in this draft. He's a white safety. And I remember at first, I really didn't like him, and then I was like, man, we got to get him in the second round. And this morning, a report that came out and said after the combine, he might be a top 20 pick.
B
Wow.
C
And I was like, dude, it's so crazy. And we started thinking about it. When was the last, like, real good, like, white safety. There's not. There's only a few, and there's, like, one for every decade. And that made me realize the most underrated player in the league might be Harrison Smith for the Vikings.
B
Wow. I think
C
no one talks about Harrison Smith. That dude has been a dog for 15 straight years. Yeah, that dude is like, we'll come down and knock a motherfucker's head off and then take a pick six, 90 yards. And he's like 33 at this point. And, like, no one talks about Harrison Smith. That dude has had no decline in 12 years.
A
He is a dog.
B
That's a dog. That's a dog.
A
People do not talk about him enough as being, like, one of those safeties. Like, like you said. How long has he been in.
B
In the league now there for a while, dude. He's been there for. Yeah.
A
Huh?
D
Yeah. He's 33.
B
Yeah.
D
Nine years. Nine, 10 years.
B
Yeah.
A
Yeah. I like it. I like it. Well, before we wrap it up, let's talk about our dude of the week. We did shout out Anthony Kim. Definitely deserving of it. But let us know who's our dude of the week.
B
Quinn Hughes, baby. Game winner. Over time. I mean, more electric. It's just an electric. And it was just, again, like I said, the three on three. It's. It's just crazy. And he's a defenseman. An absolute snipe due to the week sending America to the Next round sending us to the semis and hell yeah. Shout out Quinn Hughes. Baby.
A
We might have a due to the week next week because we're gonna win the gold.
B
Yes.
A
Only fitting.
D
3 o' clock today. 3 o' clock today. We're ready to get after it. I'm fired up.
B
Hell yeah.
A
You said Slovakia.
B
Slovakia, yeah.
D
Interesting.
B
Which by the way, so breaking news again. We are talking a lot of hockey. So Canada did just score with 30 seconds to take the lead. But they're.
C
Oh my God.
B
They're reviewing it for potential offsides. So the 30 seconds, they either. Basically they're either going to win the game or this game is going overtime. So pretty electric. So after the show ends, tune into that, don't you?
A
Well, we're pretty much wrapped up for. For today. Any. Any final thoughts from the boys? Any. Any last words?
D
Meet me at elbow room, 8am Hell yeah. We go.
B
Let's go. USA. USA. USA.
A
Bobby, final words. Final thoughts.
C
No final words. Yeah. Rooting for America, obviously. Unlike David. No, I'm just kidding.
B
That catch Bobby every time.
D
Oh, the FBI
B
Bobby also. Fire shirt, baby.
C
I appreciate it, dog.
A
Let's go.
C
A little side project I'm working on. You wouldn't understand.
A
Great show today, boys. Appreciate everybody that tuned in today. We'll have a great lineup next week. Go talk some NBA next week. I know we haven't talked much NBA may have our guy Grievous Vasquez come in. Former NBA. And yeah, talk some ball. Right? We just got through the all star break. So excited about that recap. The combine and we'll see what else we got cooking up for next week. But as always, appreciate you guys for tuning in.
C
Trying to play us off, dude.
A
That's on me. That's on me.
D
Oh, I need a hard stop.
B
Vj. My bad.
A
No, we're good now. Now we're just awkwardly sitting here, so.
B
Yeah, we are. You know.
C
Roll a J. Roll a day.
A
Roll it. Roll it.
B
Roll it.
D
Roll it, Pooch.
