Just go to gohighlevel.com travis what's going on everybody? Welcome back to another episode of the show. Today we are talking about the fact that most people are not lost or stuck, they're simply just distracted. Now if you're new to the show, we release three episodes a day, which I know is a little crazy. This one is a solo show. It's just me, you and the mic talk about some things that I've been learning lately. I have done over 1500 podcast episodes myself. I've been a guest on over, I don't know, six, seven hundred podcasts now at this point. I've read a couple hundred books in the last decade plus listened to countless hours of podcast episodes. These solo shows are basically just like here's some things that I've learned either recently or in the past that have been really helpful for me. And then we have a co hosted episode that goes out. There's a little bit more fun, a little bit more relaxed, sort of just like you can throw on in the background while you're doing some other stuff. It's more, more fun, entertaining. But we also, you know, we'll talk movies and things like that, but we also still end up talking something about business or content or something like that. That's what the co host of my producer, Eric and then we have a interview that goes out every day as well with an inspiring entrepreneur. So plenty of stuff to choose from. But on this episode specifically, it's me, you and the mic. And we're talking about how most people aren't lost, they're just distracted. Is the new superpower. The new superpower is focus. It has never been easier to build what you want to build. There has never been more opportunity to create the life that you want to create. Are there opposing forces? Are there other things that have never happened that are currently happening? That you can choose to focus on that will prevent you from taking action in any of the direction that actually matters for your life. Of course, that will always be the case. So right now, what that looks like is, you know, younger millennials, people my age, you know, let's say 30 to 45 years old, are mostly disillusioned with, and an older Gen Z as well, you know, 25 to 30 year olds right now are mostly disillusioned by macroeconomic trends. Like housing prices are crazy high, interest rates are going higher, monthly payments are untenable, cars are expensive, renting an apart is, is expensive, even if it's not a great one. There's, there's, you know, jobs are difficult to get. AI is replacing white collar jobs. People who went and got bachelor's degrees thinking that that was going to be their safety net, are now searching for work and can't find any work, especially not work that's related to the thing that they got their degree in. And then they're wondering what it's all for and then starting to point the finger and look, I get it. I totally understand where you're coming from on that because it feels unfair. However, nobody ever said that life was supposed to be fair. And if you look at it across all of the potential benchmarks that make up a good quality life, we're still living in one of the, I mean, the best time in history that when it comes to creating the life that you want to create now, the bad news here is that it's going to require more work on your part. Building the dream. Building your dream life requires work, which is one thing that drives me crazy about the, the cultural, the, the cultural commentary on this, which is that we, we have created a generation of young people who just think that by nature of existing or by nature of having checked the boxes they were supposed to check that they deserve their dream life handed to them on a silver platter. And that's not how it works. Your dreams are by definition things that don't exist. Like, it's stuff, it's, it's fairy tale nonsense, nonsense that exists in the clouds. If you want to create that, if you want to make that happen, it's going to require a bunch of additional work and might be work that you did not initially sign on for because obstacles are going to prevent you from reaching your dreams. Otherwise everybody would just be living their dream life. So ultimately you're going to have to at some point take responsibility for the hand that you were dealt, realize that it's maybe it's not your fault. And maybe it's nobody's fault, maybe it's somebody's fault. Doesn't matter whose fault it is. Ultimately it's your responsibility to do something with the cards that you were dealt rather than point the finger at the dealer and say, you should have dealt me better cards. Because only one of those two paths actually gets you the results that you want in life. And the other one leads you down a path of depression, darkness, anxiety, and, and blame for the circumstances that were created for you. So you, you cannot live in that mindset too long. You have to realize, like, look, ultimately I'm going to have to take responsibility here and create the life that I want. So here's, here's, herein lies the problem. Because while it has never been easier to build the life that you want in terms of the opportunities that are available, in terms of the knowledge, the information that's available, there's a lot of barriers that existed 30 years ago that do not exist currently. So while that is the case, it is also the case that it has because of the volume of opportunity and information and knowledge and all of those things I just mentioned. It's also never been easier to be more distracted by so many things. And I've personally have felt this on a deeper level recently because even, even as it relates to, like, following the news for a long time, I, I soared off and at first, I think I first heard of it from Tim Ferriss. Tim Ferriss was the first person who was like, hey, stop watching the news. It's engineered to make you feel bad. And there's ultimately almost nothing that you can do to control what they're talking about. And I, for, for quite some time was just very much engaged in that. And then over the last few years, it's felt, it's felt more, I guess, sort of unavoidable because it's just so all the time. And you have to have an opinion about this and you have to speak your mind about that and you have to understand what's going on here, or you're just uninformed, or you don't care about the issues, or you don't care about your fellow human being if you don't. And it's just like, look, ultimately all of those things are a distraction that will prevent you from building the life that you want to build. And I'm not just talking about the news. I'm just using this as an example because it's top of mind for me. But it could be anything. It could Be literally anything that's not the activities that are required to get you to do the thing that you really want to be doing in life. So eliminate the distractions. There's a, there's a great example or kind of illustration of the rider, the elephant and the path and that basically, basically what the whole idea is, is like, you, you're the writer and there's an. Then you're riding an elephant and the elephant's on a path. So if you want to create a life that. That is your dream lifestyle, then you have to think about not being the writer, because the writer, you know, the writer loses control as the day progresses on, on a siloed version of this, every single day. You have a certain amount of discipline, you have a certain amount of decision making, you have a certain amount of. Of willpower at the very beginning of the day. And so likening it to something like eating don or something like that, it's like, well, very beginning of the day, you show up to work and, you know, somebody brought in donuts and it might be easier at the very beginning of the day, just be like, nope, don't eat the donut. It's not a big deal. You don't get distracted. You don't allow yourself to have the donut. Right? So that's an example of the writer controlling the elephant. To say, like, all right, we're going this way now, right, because the rider has the willpower at the beginning of the day. But by the end of the day, you get home and there's a box of donuts on your counter, and it's. And it's, you know, 8:30pm You've had a really long day. Odds are probably going to pick up the donut because the riders no longer control. The elephant's in control. Ultimately, like, the elephant is your emotions, the rider is the logic part of your brain. So we are overwhelmingly emotional creatures. Even for those of you out there who think you're logical, like me, I used to think that too. You're still emotional. You still have your thinking brain, and you have your feeling brain. Well, your thinking brain is very. In very little control of what's going on. It's the rider of the elephant. Your feeling brain is the elephant itself. It's the animal, it's the beast inside. It's the thing that you, you can't. You can' manipulate it. The, the more that you continue to make decisions, your willpower dwindles, your discipline dwindles throughout the day, and it makes it more difficult to make the Better decisions. So ultimately, the thing that you have the most control over to control the animal itself is the path. Meaning that if you don't have the box of donuts in your house, you are much less likely to eat a donut because it's impossible to get the donut unless you have to. Like you, then the. The. The lazy part of that beast does not want to get in the car and drive and go get donuts, which is again, why you can't allow yourself to ev. Even so. So the path. I don't allow donuts on my counter. I also don't allow me or anybody in my family to have a membership on Doordash or to even have it, you know, have Uber Eats downloaded on my phone because I'm much more likely just to get a box of donuts delivered to my house because it feeds the beast and I'm lazy. So the idea is that you want to control the path. You want to set the boundaries so that the. The beast cannot make these decisions that are actively against the version of a life that you wanted to live. And obviously the health. The donuts example is just a solid examp of this, but this applies on a much broader scale. So the. The distractions, you could potentially have these. This is the path, right? So if you wake up and the first thing that you do is get on social media and start scrolling and getting dopamine hits, probably not a good thing for you.

Not a good thing for your brain. Probably not a good way to set up a productive day. It might get you into this state of anxiety. You might start seeing stuff that's meant to inspire you, but ultimately it makes you jealous because you see, you know, Mr. Beast out here at age 27 doing Amazon prime deals and having a half a billion with a b, half a billion YouTube subscribers and he's not even 30 yet. You, you see people like that. You start doing the jones, the Jonesy thing in where you're like, I should be there and I'm not there yet. You, you, you create this world of inner turmoil as soon as you get up because you're immediately engaging in distraction. Okay, so the path would mean don't go to bed with your phone next to you. Leave your phone outside the room, leave it downstairs charging on a. And on your kitchen counter. Make, make it to where your day is, is your. The path that you set on a daily basis is allowing you to stay focused for as long as possible and not get distracted along the way. I am about this more than ever. That distraction is the enemy of progress and focus is the competitive advantage at this point. It's not just a competitive advantage. There's a lot of different competitive advantages out there, but ultimately, especially for young, younger people that are listening. Like anybody younger than me, I'm 33. If you're, you know, 18 to 35, somewhere in that range, the, the superpower for us is just going to be focus because there's so many things that can take your time and attention away, things that will actually be able to drive the success later on. And I've been a victim of this myself. There's been so Many times, you know, I have that entrepreneurial brain. Just the shiny object syndrome. Like buying into the fact that like this vehicle for success is probably better. So let's go do that. And then you go to a conference and somebody else is talking about another vehicle and you're like, ooh, that one's actually better. And then you jump ship and move immediately to that one. Or you start using your productive time during your workday to work on this other thing. That's like a side thing instead of pushing this thing forward, even though you already have good results in this thing. And so the, the distraction starts siloing your attention and taking you down multiple paths so you're not able to focus it down one path. And I love the, the, the acronym for the word focus too is follow one course until success is, is what it is. So just do this one thing. Until you get this one thing accomplished, the path is going to be difficult regardless. That's the whole idea behind this, is that there's no, there's no way to avoid the hard work in whatever path that you've chosen. Whether it's a brick or it's an agency or it's a side hustle, mowing lawns or it's a podcast. Whatever that thing is, it's going to require a lot of work. And then what happens is once you get over the, the novelty of the thing that you're pursuing, you get stuck into the weeds and start realizing all the difficult things that are coming up about it. But then you buy into the delusion that somehow if you go over to this path that you're never going to, you're never going to run into those complications later on. Same exact thing that happens in marriages, by the way, is people, they, they fall in love, quote, unquote, right? They get all the lovey dovey feelings that, that feeling of excitement when you see the person walk into the room and, and those butterflies and it makes you feel, makes you feel like you're in love. But then five years in, 10 years into the relationship now a lot of those initial feelings are gone. You know almost everything that there is to know about the other person. And then you start getting distracted by this feeling that you're feeling with this person that you just met over here. And this feeling that you're feeling with this person that you, and it deludes you into believing that if you just take, maybe I just chose the wrong partner, and then, and then you just. So you, you, you cut off all the work that you put into this relationship and you move on to this relationship. And then guess what happens five years down the road, 10 years down the road, you're getting right back into the same position that you were in this one. Because that's just what happens. You can't recreate the new, the newness of the relationship. You can't recreate the novelty. And so you, you go elsewhere thinking that, like, totally forgetting that that's how you used to feel about this person. And it's the same thing that happens in the business world is that you just, you just get, you buy into the idea that this path is going to be a little easier. So why don't we just go down this path for a little bit, see what that's like. And then before you know it, you're working on eight different things. None of them are moving any, anything forward. And again, I've fallen into this several times myself, but like I mentioned at the very beginning of this show, we're doing three episodes a day on this show for a reason. It's because we realized a year ago that it was working, working. So we're like, okay, well let's increase it from three a week to one a day. Okay, great, that's working. Okay, what if we did, what if we just went from one a day to two a day? Okay, well that's working. What happens if we go from two a day to three day? It's like more focus into one direction and now, you know, surprise, surprise, sponsorship revenue this year will be another record breaking year when last year we made more in sponsorship revenue on the show than we did in all of our previous years combined. So that happened. And now we're doing even better than that this year because we're just focusing in on the thing that we know how to do, the thing that we know that gets the results. And look, three episodes a day is tiring, guys. Like, I'm not sitting here pretending like even though I like podcasting that, you know, that, that it wouldn't be easier to just go back to one a week and start doing something else. But until I feel like we have fully tapped this, you know, fully excavated this mine, then we're probably just going to keep mining here. So the whole idea, and this is one of, one of the values that I've, that I've sort of highlighted in my, in my life recently is do less better, don't do more, just do less, but do better. Like do those things that you do and do them very well and you're probably going to get better results. Doing that thing. So distraction is the enemy of progress. Do less better because focus is going to be the competitive advantage of the next generation. So appreciate you all for tuning in. That's it for this episode of the show. Catch you in the next one. Peace.
