Episode 207: Counting Down John Barbata
Feb 13, 202500:39:35Tap to summarizeYou've heard him numerous times through the '60s and '70's although his name isn't commonly known. After the countdown you'll certainly remember John Barbata. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, was an American drummer who played in bands in The Turtles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship In 1978, John was involved in an automobile accident that forced him to resign as the Jefferson Starship drummer. During his career he is said to have played on over 60 albums. After his daughter Leah was born, he and his wife Angela, relocated to her hometown of Ada, Oklahoma, where they lived until he died on May 8, 2024 after 34 years of marriage. He is quoted as saying, "I was very fortunate, most drummers only go around once. Episode 203: Kounting Down The Kinks
Jan 25, 202500:44:53Tap to summarizeThe Kinks were an English rock band formed in 1963, and are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. Their music was known for both its reflection of the British lifestyle and often presented a satirical viewpoint. Their single ‘Sunny Afternoon’ in the summer of 1966 displaced the Beatle‘s ‘Paperback Writer’ on the British pop charts. The Kinks played their first shows in the U.S. in 1966 as part of a worldwide tour, but poor attendance at some of the concerts, issues between the band, promoters and the music union led to a four year ban of performing state side.During the life of the band there were many changes in personnel and musical styles, the band eventually disbanded in 1997, but not before they were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame (1990). Sadly Ray Davies did not attend the ceremonies, but the band was represented by original members, Mick Avory and Pete Quaife.
