Celebrating the 35th anniversary of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. After the relative failure of The Final Frontier, Paramount likely did not want to do another Star Trek feature film. A prequel was bandied about, but the looming 25th anniversary in 1991 convinced the studio to make one more adventure with the Original Series cast. Produced in time for the 1991 25th anniversary, the film brought back Nick Meyer, the director of The Wrath of Khan. The Undiscovered Country is the first Star Trek feature film to be released following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and as such the film relies on that to tell their version of it. In this episode of Twin Cities Trekkies, which marks the halfway point of the podcast's Second Star Trek Film Extravaganza, Wes welcomes back Jeffrey (@renegadeshipyards) to discuss this milestone film. Spaceballs. In 1987, legendary filmmaker Mel Brooks wanted to create a Star Wars-like spoof film. He got permission from Star Wars creator George Lucas to create such a film. Spaceballs was a modest box office hit, but in the nearly four decades since its release, the film has become an instant cult classic. The cult classic status of the original film has led to a sequel, Spaceballs: The New One, coming out April 23, 2027, on the 40th anniversary year of the original. In this episode of Twin Cities Trekkies, which is the second part of six of the podcast's Second Star Trek Film Extravaganza, Wes sits down with Justin, a Star Trek fan, to talk about the film.Yes, we are aware this is not a Star Trek movie, but the film does have Star Trek elements such as a matter-energy transporter beam, the Vulcan Nerve Pinch, and the cameo of future Voyager star Tim Russ. Celebrating 40 years of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.Shortly after Star Trek III: The Search for Spock came out, Paramount wanted to lock down Leonard Nimoy to direct its sequel. They wanted his vision this time unlike the last film, and after an original script that included Eddie Murphy and the Klingon bird-of-prey decloaking at the Super Bowl was scrapped, the film was finally ready to go to be released. Originally planned for a December 12, 1986, release, Paramount moved it to Thanksgiving due to great test screenings. The film made $109 million - the highest grossing film for nearly 25 years for the Star Trek franchise until the 2009 reboot (since surpassed by 2013's Into Darkness). In this episode of Twin Cities Trekkies, Wes kicks off the podcast's Second Star Trek Film Extravaganza with his guest Chris (aka MemeSpaceNine) to talk about The Voyage Home. Wes' favorite episodes from both Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Enterprise.Across seven combined seasons of television—three from The Original Series and four from Enterprise—Wes has spent years revisiting, re‑evaluating, and rediscovering the episodes that shaped his love of Star Trek. With so many classics, deep cuts, and character-driven gems to choose from, narrowing down favorites from each season is no small task. But anniversaries call for bold choices. To celebrate two major franchise milestones—the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Enterprise and the 60th anniversary of Star Trek itself on Twin Cities Trekkies, Wes dives into both series with a curated list that reflects not just critical acclaim, but personal connection. For each season of The Original Series and Enterprise, he selects three standout episodes that continue to resonate with him today. These picks span everything from groundbreaking sci‑fi concepts to emotional character arcs, from iconic moments in Trek history to episodes that deserve far more recognition than they get.And because no Trek list is complete without a few extra nods, Wes also highlights two honorable mentions from each series—episodes that didn’t quite make the top three but still hold a special place in his heart. Whether it’s a classic Kirk-Spock-McCoy adventure or a quietly powerful moment from Archer’s crew, these selections paint a vivid picture of what makes each show unique. You can share your feedback with us on our Facebook page at facebook.com/TCTrekkiesPod or by emailing tctrekkiespodcast@gmail.com.
