Mary Catherine Mahoney
Mom, can you tell me a story?
Carvana Storyteller
Sure. Once upon a time, a mom needed a new car.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Was she brave?
Carvana Storyteller
She was tired mostly. But she went to Carvana.com and found a great car at a great price. No secret treasure map required.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Did you have to fight a dragon?
VRBO Advertiser
Nope.
Carvana Storyteller
She bought it 100% online from her bed, actually.
Joe Bradley
Was it scary?
Carvana Storyteller
Honey, it was as unscary as car buying could be.
Joe Bradley
Did the car have a sunroof?
Carvana Storyteller
It did, actually.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Okay, good story.

Welcome back to Two Judgy Girls. It's Mary from the bay and joining me today. He's charming. He knows how to work a room. The one and only Joe Bradley from Southern Hospitality.
Joe Bradley
How's it going? I love it.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Welcome, Joe. Courtney, my counterpart. She's not here today. She's off for three weeks in Europe. But Courtney ran into you at Coachella. She's bummed she couldn't be here today. How was Coachella for you?
Joe Bradley
I was going to say, is Courtney. Is she still recovering? Because it took me a few. I actually, when I ran into her, I've been going to music festivals. So is Maddie, since we're, like, in high school. So there's certain festivals where I felt like I've, like, run into people, and I don't know of, like, what's reality, but I was pretty, like, cool, calm, and collected this time around. But I ran into her, and she's like, Joe Courtney from Two Judgy Girls. I was like, big fan. I'm like, thank you. Thank you for the March Madness. Thank you for the support. But it was. It's just cool. Coachella. You just see people being, like, their full, authentic selves.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Totally. She. She has a blast at those events. I can't hang for three days like that, so I can't participate. Is Maddie wanting to DJ that? Is that a dream in her future? Someday?
Joe Bradley
Definitely. She's done a few, like, my favorite gig she's ever done where, like, festivals. So we did one at Lake Tahoe, like, in the middle of, like, a snowstorm, like, in, like, a blizzard. That was badass. And that's my favorite thing. Like, I would love to, like, do a small festival with Maddie one day. I just feel like that is, like, our favorite. That's kind of what we do to escape reality. Not just festival, like, live music concerts. I feel like we saw that with my. My email on a much smaller scale, but anything that has to do with, like, live music or a festival, that's, like, me and Maddie's outlet. So I'm like, how can I monetize this?
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Do you have any plans to monetize that for yourself?
Joe Bradley
I think so. I know I get a lot of hate. Not only hate, I get, like, a lot of not only from, like, Leva, but people are like, oh, Joe's following Matty around Tor, like, when he should be at work like a puppy dog. But what people don't understand is every single show I go to with Matty, I'm learning. I'm connecting. I am talking to the owner. I'm asking question questions. Of how they got there. So I think that when I'm on the road, like, it's. I've actually feel like I've learned more from traveling with Mati than anything in my life. Because you're meeting all these different characters who. All these different stories, and you're kind of learning, like, what it takes to build something like that. So I think it's definitely, like in my wheelhouse and I could definitely see it being like something really fun in the foreseeable future. So stay tuned, I guess. I don't know.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Well, I feel like that's been a big story point. So this, this season, you turn 30, you know, you're kind of having perhaps a quarter life crisis as such, and kind of deciding, you know, which way are you going to go? Are you going to go into the hospitality business? And have you gotten any traction with that? Or is there something outside of hospitality you want to pursue?
Joe Bradley
Yeah, I think my problem, first world problems, that I have all these interests and passions and opportunities, but I think at the end of the day, even though it's not the easiest industry, hospitality, I have all these interests, but I feel like the hub of my burning passion of what I want to be my main hustle for the rest of my life. I know for a fact it's hospitality. This is why. And I think it all kind of started after Covid, when I was really lost in my life and I had no idea what I wanted to do. All my friends are in finance or doing tech sales or have the 9 to 5. And I didn't even think hospitality was an option. I didn't think that I could do anything with it for, like, I've always kind of seen it as people my age doing it as like a side hustle, whether to put more money in their pocket, pay their way through college. Even in la, I feel like a lot of them are waiting tables.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Of course, the Vanderpump rules. People, you know, they're trying to make it as an actor and they're at sur, you know, waiting tables, and there's
Joe Bradley
nothing wrong with that. But getting involved in hospitality in a town like Charleston, you kind of look around and a lot of people do it as a career. And I think that I don't know if I would have fell in love with hospitality the way I have if it wasn't for Charleston, because it's. It's just like I always joke, it's like King street is like Wall Street.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
In Charleston, it's all about the tourism there, it's about People coming to visit and have a great time in the space. I mean, you're Joey Bottles. I have a couple ideas for you.
Joe Bradley
Yeah.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Now, what about getting into like the management side of DJ Matty Reese?
Joe Bradley
Yeah. And I feel like I've already kind of been that in a way. The only problem with that is that I have a manager. Not obviously I'm not a dj, but I'm just kind of looking at the day to day lifestyle of a manager. And they gotta be organized, kind of type A personality. When I feel like my skillset is a little bit different, like whoever I start a bar with, I want to make sure they have like the managerial, you know, bones in their body. You're the face, I'm the people guy, you know. And I'm not saying, I'm not saying managers and agents aren't good with people, but I really do think my skill set is work the room sales. Showing people the best time possible making. Whether it's a girl's night out or their wedding after party, that's what fills my cup. And in the meantime, you know, I love to act like I'm Maddie's manager, but I, I'd rather just be our hype man on stage.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Totally.
Joe Bradley
Yeah.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Speaking of you and Maddie, are we currently living together? What's, what's the status on that?
Joe Bradley
It's, we're making moves. So it's. I'm trying to give her like this space and the time to where like she looks up at me and she's like, why are you still paying rent downtown? You haven't slept at home in 90 days. Which is true. And like right now I'm in my, my family's beach house too. So I have a really expensive closet,
Mary Catherine Mahoney
storage it, if you will.
Joe Bradley
I probably have more clothes than like your average straight guy should have. But I have this awesome spot downtown where I'm spending a lot of money at. But I haven't slept in my bed in quite some time. So me and Maddie just got a puppy. I feel like that was like a really.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Wow. Wow.
Joe Bradley
I stole this. They sent this phone case to Maddie. But when usually people show you a, you know, a picture of their puppy on their phone. Mine's like on my case.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Okay, what breed? What's the name?
Joe Bradley
His name's Ozzy. I named him after Ozzy. Yeah, but I was kind of like, Maddie, if you're going to get kind of more of a Frou Frou knee Bernie Doodle type dog, like, I gotta name him. She loves Ozzy too, but he's definitely a guy. He's definitely a boy dog. He's always digging. And, yeah, we. He's like a baby. So he's six months.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Where does Ozzy live?
Joe Bradley
Ozzy lives where Maddie lives, I guess where I live, too. Technically. We live in a house on Daniel island with our two best friends. Our best friend owns a house, so it's like, a very safe place. Safe place. They love dogs. They've owned four or five dogs between the two of them. So with me and Maddie's lifestyle of traveling, you'd feel guilty about leaving the dog behind. But I offer. I'm like, to our roommates, I'm like, hey, Maddie's parents live down the road. They would love to take care of Ozzy. And our roommates are like, how dare you even infer that we don't want to take care of Ozzy? So they love him, and we're just, like, in a really good situation with the.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Congrats on being a dog dad. This week's episode, we get Meredith Marks. Her and Maddie get to collab. Do we see any more collabs for Maddie in the future? Like, would DJ Kyle Cook and her do something? Have they done something?
Joe Bradley
I think that's, like, kind of the beauty of our network is, you know, for the most part, I feel like a lot of us support each other. First of all, we love Meredith. Like, Meredith is amazing. We love her family, too. I actually went to college with her other son, Reid, who is who. The one that's not on TV as much, but.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Did you know him in college or.
Joe Bradley
Yeah, we were, like, in rival fraternities, and he.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
What house were you?
Joe Bradley
I was in Phi Psi. He was in Theta Chi.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Okay.
Joe Bradley
But I had no idea his mom. Like, it was before his mom was a housewife, so. Yeah, before I even really knew what Bravo was.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
That's so weird. What a small world. That's crazy.
Joe Bradley
I know. All roads lead back to Bravo, is what they say. Yes.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
I. The six degrees of separation from Bravo. Always. Yeah.
Joe Bradley
I mean, just this past month, I threw a badass event. Kind of like following what I did with Emo Night. I did it with. It was originally. It was just supposed to be me and Jesse Solomon or he was going to perform. I would throw the event.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
I just went. I went to his concert, like, last week.
Joe Bradley
Nice. I. I think he's. I think he's a performer. Like, he has amazing stage presence, like, respect to him and the tour. Life, as we know, isn't for the faint of heart. So he's Grinding?
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yes, for sure, for sure.
Joe Bradley
But then, like, after, you know, I signed with Jesse, I felt like I just kept adding people to the flyer. Matty's like, wait, I want a dj. Let me get on this. And then Molly o' Connell is like, wait, what the hell? Why aren't you doing it with me? So I kind of, like, curated without even, like, intentionally. It just kind of happened. Was like a little mini bravocon night.
Rosie Perez
That's so fun.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
I love that. Okay, speaking of Jesse Solomon, are you tracking this Summer House scandal?
Joe Bradley
I was about to say you were about to ask me to talk about our show. I don't think anyone, no podcast should be talking about any show besides Summerhouse until the reunion is over, but I'm just kidding. I'm, like, more tuned in to Summer House. It's like, Summer House, your friends and neighbors, and then all the other.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
It's so crazy. Did you watch the finale?
Joe Bradley
We all watched it together last night. Even if I didn't want to watch Bravo, I walked down the stairs. Even if I want to watch, like, you know, the Braves or a football game, I have to watch it on my phone because Bravo's on TV in our household at all times, all the time. Yeah, I don't have a choice. But I love Summer House. This whole scandal and everything about it, especially after, like, watching it and going right into the city, it hits close to home for me because I'm like, out of all the shows, I feel like I'm closest with the Summer House guys. So when you are, like, emotionally connected like that, it's like, now I know how my family feels a little bit like, watching our show. I've obviously Team Ciara Thick and Thin, but I really do feel for Kyle Cook because I think a lot of people, they don't understand how sensitive I'm like, obviously, we all know how sensitive Kyle was. Like, I. I saw him cry more in the last three episodes than anyone I've seen on Bravo. And, like, I respect him for being so vulnerable, but men are very sensitive, too. And, like, that was his wife for, you know, his partner for over 10, like, 10 years. I just don't want to discredit, like, what Kyle's going through, too, and, like, how close he was with West. But it sucks on all ends. It's horrible.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
It's such a crazy situation. And then actually, so did you hear about, like, west and Jen Fessler?
Joe Bradley
Yeah.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
That also reminded me of you and Lou. And you've been so funny this season. Talking about Lou that, like, makes me Giggle when you are, like, floating down the river and, like, well, don't lie about it. We'll catch up with you.
Joe Bradley
You know, in the past, I was, like, trying to hide it. I'm like, what are you talking about? Like, kind of how lake is this year with the ocean thing? I was trying to, like, walk on eggshells with it, but I. I just. I think it's just because I'm so comfortable with my current relationship. I'm not. I'm not ashamed at all. At some point, like, when do you, like, lean into it and just chill? So I kind of regret not being like this from the very beginning, but I just didn't want to hurt feelings. And, you know, that was. That was an interesting time. But yeah, the Jesse Solomon with Jen Fessler. I don't, like. I don't know.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Wes Wilson. Wes with Jesse.
Joe Bradley
Yeah, yeah. I was thinking of Jesse and Erika Jane. That's my bad.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. We have Jesse and Erica Jayne west and Jen Fessler. You and Lou. Are there any other ones we should know about?
Joe Bradley
Oh, I'm like, I'm not like the gay. I don't. I don't have all the secrets like some other people in my cast. But no, I feel like there's gotta be. There's gotta be a few more that we just don't know about. So that's an interesting thing.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Speaking of your cast, Justin's new this year. He's been really interesting to watch, and him and Charlie are seriously together. Did that surprise you?
Joe Bradley
I kind of saw it play out in real time. I. I take his relationship seriously now with Charlie, but in. In the beginning, I felt like he was treating kind of Charleston and Republic like it was Temptation island or Purpose Perfect Love Villa. Whatever show he was show. He was on, like, four of the shows. So I'm like, dude, this is like a bar. We're all actually friends. This is not some, like, Love island type bullshit where you can, you know, play Charleston in a sense kind of is like that because it's, you know, when you're a good looking, handsome guy, it's like seven to three ratio. It's like 70% beautiful woman.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yeah.
Joe Bradley
And there's. There's definitely more beautiful women than men in this town. When you're the. The hunky new guy. I get it. I kind of did that too. But he went from Jordan to Mia, and then he brings up Charlie. I'm like, all right, whatever, dude. This is like the fourth girl. But then, you know, time went on and I'M like, all right, this guy actually loves Charlie, so I'm rooting for them. I think they're very happy together. But, yeah, they seem, at first I was like, all right, whatever you say, buddy.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
It was very interesting because I felt like Charlie on Southern Charm was pretty prim and proper and, you know, like, didn't want to show much with Craig on camera, which is fine. But then it's like Justin seems like the polar opposite, you know? So I was like, how are these two working? So do you feel like they are a good match? Like, are they gonna go the distance?
Joe Bradley
Yeah, you go, you go from, like the pillow king, like, male Martha Stewart, kind of like the ideal perfect man, very clean cut over to Justin. I mean, Justin's very handsome too. But I, it's interesting. Like, I, I, I was. That's the one thing that kind of like, I was taken back on. I guess we'll see what happens. I think they're going strong. I know they're going strong still. I think they're pretty inseparable. So it's going to be interesting to see. And, like, she's on Southern Charm this season, so I don't know what his involvement's been with that yet, but it just goes to show how small Charleston is, you know?
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Oh, totally, Totally. And let's take a quick break.

And Quint has been my go to. I only wear their cashmere. Their linen is so incredibly comfortable, especially for summer. The fabrics feel elevated, the fits are flattering, and everything just works without overthinking it. Great for mixing and matching. Their lightweight linen pants, dresses and tops are breathable, easy to repeat, and start at just $30. Quince uses premium materials like 100% European linen and organic cotton. But everything is priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands. Their denim is also a standout for me. Structured and supportive, but still soft and comfortable. They are life changing. Before my bedding situation was fine, but you know the little things that start to add up. The sheets were pilling the corners, popping off the mattress in the middle of the night. That's the absolute, absolute worst. Pillows going flat and the bed somehow was getting too warm. Nothing terrible, but it just like wasn't great. And then we switched to Bowen Branch. You can feel the quality immediately. The sheets are unbelievably soft, very breathable. I want to talk a little bit about Emmy and Will. So what is your relationship with Will right now?
Joe Bradley
Me and Will, I don't really. I don't see him ever. Like, I think I know he just officially graduated law school. I would say, out of everyone on the cast, I'm on the best terms with him. We're not hanging out every day, but I genuinely am, like, rooting for him. I don't. I want him to be happy. I want him to. My only frustrations with Will in the past has really been the reunion. Like, how he didn't step up to the plate and support Emmy. That was really, like, my only thing that, like, I didn't. I couldn't, like, look past. I feel like all my other fights with Will, it's like, all right, few days go by. Fuck you, man. Kind of like a brother. But I did not, like, that's my only thing with him. I hope that he steps up to the plate as a husband to Emmy, like, how he should have at the reunion. You know what I mean? That's my only.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
It was very shocking. He didn't come to the reunion. He didn't film at all this season. Do you think you'll be invited to their wedding?
Joe Bradley
I better be. I feel like I've been in their corner, and I've kind of been rooting for their love story. So I would understand if they, like. I know Will has a little bit of not resentment. He just likes to keep his distance from anything with the show. So I would understand if they did, like, a smaller one and I didn't get the invite. But at the end of the day, like, I would pro. My feelings would probably be a little bit hurt if I didn't get The. I'm not, like, asking to be a groomsman, but I feel like I've been very supportive of their relationship, so.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
So the invites aren't out yet. You could potentially make the list.
Joe Bradley
I. Yeah. I feel like there's. There's still hope.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Little bit about Emmy. She's had a rough season. It feels like Charleston's obviously a super small town. Did you hear her talking around town about Brad? Because it feels like, you know, she started talking to her trainer and her story kept changing and evolving. Had you heard about that stuff prior?
Joe Bradley
Yeah, that's my main thing with Emmy. I don't think she's. I don't think she's a racist. I can't defend anything she said. Really. Like, none of it. And it really. It was really. It was hard for me to. You know, I was. I was never going to go to bat for her. I just hope she learns from this. Like, say your apology. Mean it, you know? Cause, like, I just felt like it would just keep. It could have ended the third episode. You know, we could have had a great summer. It just. It was just a. One thing after another and quit while you're up and you just. Just shut up.
Brooke Devard
Yeah.
Joe Bradley
No. Yeah. And that's where I was like, oh, my God. Like, come on. It just didn't need to be this deep. And it just. He just. The wound just kept reopening completely. Completely. So I just. I can't defend anything she did, but, like, even at the dinner table in Punta Cana, I don't want to see anyone hyperventilating and be hurting that bad and just everyone just laughing at her and dog piling. Even though I didn't agree with anything that she did this summer, I was like, I have. I have a little sister in my life. And I would just. I couldn't help myself, but I had to, like, take a walk with her, you know?
Mary Catherine Mahoney
No. That was very gracious of you. How long was that dinner?
Joe Bradley
Oh, God.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Actually, people just couldn't keep it together anymore. They were just laughing. They're like, this is so insane. The mascara, the cat. Yeah.
Joe Bradley
I think, surprisingly, because we had to make it to. It was already dark outside when we started, and we had to get it. We had to make it to Maddie's gig. So it wasn't that long. It was just that chaotic. Like, sometimes, like, a lot of these scenes are three to seven minutes. And sometimes, yeah, we are sitting there for three or four hours for certain scenes, but I literally think all that shit happened within, like, 45 minutes. It was that unhinged? Sometimes it worked.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
I was also. I'm kind of really shocked that Emmy and Lake are so close this season. Um, does that shock you?
Joe Bradley
I think, you know, you guys watch what happens in our lives for two and a half, three months, and I think they formed a really strong relationship, like, when we weren't filming in the other eight months to. To 10 months. So I think that's kind of what you saw. That's what you saw in the beginning of the season. And I think, like, got a lot of hate for not having Brad's back. But in the reality of is, I think that Emmy and, like, became really close, and it was kind of, like, had nothing to do with anything that deep. It was just like, hey, that's my girl. I'm gonna go comfort her kind of thing, so.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well. And then Michael's in Lake this season. Michael has had, like, a big season two. Do you think any of it has gone to his head?
Joe Bradley
I mean, I definitely have had some talks with him. I think I see a lot of myself in him, and I think I've had a big head in the past. And if anything, over the years, I feel like reality TV has kind of humbled me. I think I was cockier before. I think.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
I think when you're reading about yourself on the Internet, it really humbles you, right?
Joe Bradley
Yeah. I try to stay off Reddit, but I think you even just watching yourself, you see. You see yourself at your lowest points. And I think that, like, the facade of Instagram versus reality, it really is like the lighting in my room when I'm hungover and I have a big pimple on my face. That's not Instagram. You know, I think, as we see with Michaels. Michaels is one of my best friends. I consider him a brother. I think with Michaels, he sometimes overcompensates. You often Forget that he's 23 years old, you know, because he is very. He's miles ahead of me when I was that age in maturity. But at the same time, he is 23. He has a lot of life to live. And I do think that sometimes he plays like the manager. Like, I'm kind of like the guy in charge. He plays that role, and he kind of overcompensate with what he's got going on, because at the end of the day, he is just as emotional, if not more emotional than, you know, the squad, because he's got. He's got a lot of his baggage, and I think he kind of has to put on that mask, not only as a manager, but with the girls, too. Like, I think Lake kind of look looks at him as, like, a older bro and an Emmy, maybe, in a way, because you kind of see when Lake and Emmy are on good terms where Michael's icing them out a little bit, they tend to be really emotional. So they honestly care. They, like, they obviously care so much, and I don't know if he's kind of using that power over them or he's using tough love. It's. It's an interesting dynamic completely.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Another interesting dynamic is TJ's and Michaels this season. So we've seen openly talk about fucking up and all those things. And then we had that pool scene in the Doctor, and it felt like TJ was kind of the one shutting that down. Do you think if he had left that door open, they could have been a more serious item?
Joe Bradley
Yeah, I think, like, the age thing and, like, was kind of a cop out. I do. I do agree that they have a big age difference, but love is love, you know, But I think if, like, I think they were attracted to each other, and I think they were having fun, and I think they actually handled it pretty maturely before it got too messy because, you know, and from personal experience, you know, the longer you kind of drag someone along and it just like a casual hookup, like, someone's going to develop more feelings than the other person. So I think they were pretty mature about kind of putting the kibosh on it or making. Drawing that line in the sand with boundaries. But I think that, like, the spark and that flame, like, probably just wasn't there, like, you know, to take it to the next level. Totally, totally. That's. That's more common than vice versa if there was, like, some big love thing. So I. I'm proud of them for being vulnerable and exploring it and being honest with each other. I think, you know, I'm glad it didn't end with this big train wreck. But I will say, for tj, for someone that's been very close with him for almost seven years now, I. I'm rooting for him to find love, to find his person. And, you know, no spoiler, but something comes in, like, the next episode or two and the finale, I think it might be the finale where I make a move in efforts to find. Help him find love. So I'm excited for people to see that.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Oh, very exciting. TJ's had a great season. I've really enjoyed watching him. Let's talk a little bit about Grace Lilly how is she with the group today?
Joe Bradley
Grace is always a difficult topic, especially for me and Maddie. There's no one on this earth I'm rooting for more than Grace because I've said this since season one. Like, when Grace is good, she's amazing. She's unstoppable. She is like a force of nature. She's a star. When she's not good, it's hard sometimes to root for her, to be around her, because I feel like I do. It's. It sucks because I. We have so much love for her, but at the same time, you want, like, sometimes what's best for them isn't always being there and enabling certain behavior. So sometimes, like, I think this was, like, the hardest pill for Maddie to swallow with the. With the 12 steps and everything Maddie's gone through in the past 12 years. Yeah, um, I think it's like, the hardest pill for Maddie to swallow is like, maybe I can't be that person for her. Maybe she has to go on this journey on her own. So as much as, like, I want Grace, I want to hang out with her and I want to, you know, be wavy baby with her. Things have not been wavy baby, but I think everyone's going to be really delighted and excited to see her. She was great at the reunion. You know, it's been a long time since I've been on a trip with Grace where she's, like, been good mentally and spiritually. So going to New York in, like, such a high pressure emotional situation. Grace was awesome, and that made me really happy to see her doing well in New York. But she's still on her journey, you know, day by day. I've been through my own, like, alcohol journey this year. We're all adults and, like, you want to be that shoulder, a resource for your friends, to lean on you and to help them out. But sometimes it's gotta be your own journey, you know, and that sucks, but it's just the way it is.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Totally. Yeah. Your drinking kind of came up this season. Do you feel like you've taken a step back from that or where are you at?
Joe Bradley
I. So I've always kind of told myself I would do dry January. And, you know, by like, January 6th, I'm like, all right, I work at a nightclub. What's going on? There's always something.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yeah.
Joe Bradley
This year was a little bit different. My family, Maddie's family, we drink. We're like, you know, Italian, Irish, Catholic. Like, we love to have a few drinks during the holidays.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
You know, I'm Mary Catherine Mahoney. I'm 100% Irish. I get it.
Podcast Narrator (Birth of Salsa)
I get it.
Brooke Devard
Yeah.
Joe Bradley
And so I would I. For my life. There's just never, like, a good time. So I said, instead of January 1st, let me do it. Let me try to go sober or take a break before Christmas. So, like, I think it was, like, December 23rd, and then I carried it through dry January. And then February came around, and I was like, all right, well, yeah, there's a Super bowl party. There's all this stuff going on. But I feel great. I feel amazing. And I kept it going, and I did A Hundred Days, which was like,
Mary Catherine Mahoney
wow, that's, like, very impressive. And I feel like the holidays are the hardest time of year, so. Good for you.
Joe Bradley
Thank you. I feel like that's my record since I was, like, 15 years old.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
But believe me, my record was only because I was pregnant. Like, otherwise, it was every weekend.
Joe Bradley
It's tough. Kind of branded my whole identity Persona. Like. Like you said earlier, people call me Joey Bottles. And I think it kind of stems from when I was even in college, like when I was failing out of school. And then I. What I was good at was always, you know, being the party guy. It literally filled my cup. Pun intended. But I kind of made, like a. I kind of made a brand around, like, drinking, for sure. And even though I don't crave alcohol, when I'm in the living room with my friends or, you know, out to dinner, I can have one or two. It's kind of when I'm put in that environment and I'm surrounded by people that are drinking heavily, I just felt like I. It was just kind of a slippery slope where I felt like I was losing control a little bit. But I think the A Hundred Days really rewired my brain, and it kind of made me feel. It put me in uncomfortable situations. It's kind of like working out. Like, you gotta feel uncomfortable to get comfortable. So, like, in this sense, I was working at my brain and the temptation of drinking and, like, with a social anxiety of being started, like, 400 people, I've. I've really kind of like, hit a reset button and rewired my brain, and I'm just trying to reestablish my relationship with alcohol. I would love. I feel like I'm at the point now where I can have, like, two or three, and I don't get that social anxiety, which is great to keep going. So that's what I'm working on now.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yeah. Well, it sounds like you proved to yourself, like, I can go to a party without having a drink and doing it during the holiday season. So. Good on you. Okay, Bravo Fan Fest is coming to Charleston this year. What are your thoughts on this? What do you have planned? Anything you can tease about that?
Joe Bradley
I think it's a match made in heaven. Like, I think they were like, probably looking for cities. And whoever's been on King street in May, it already is pretty much Bravo Fan Fest starting from Thursday to Sunday. Here. I was walking down the street with my brother last weekend, walking down King, walking past our new spot on King Street, New Republic. Spot Republic. And then in between that walk, it's like a line around the block for Craig's pillow signing. And then around the corner, Austin is at, by the way, his bar. So I feel like it's already like the bones are there now. People just gotta come. And then add Andy Cohen in the mix and all of you guys and all like, the. The super fans. I think it's gonna be incredible.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Charleston is such a fun city. Do you see those Southern Chong guys a lot?
Joe Bradley
Yeah, I. I love those guys. I think it was kind of a. It was. It took. It took me a little bit longer to become close friends with them.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Why? Just, like, did they feel like you guys were breaking in on their show or were they maybe afraid to get replaced?
Brooke Devard
What.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
What was the animosity? Or.
Joe Bradley
I. I think they would be foolish to ever think we could replace them. Like, we were definitely like the little brother spinoff. I don't think that that was their fear. I don't know. They're a very, like, strong, tight knit group and they've been doing it for so long, so I understand why their guard was up a little bit. I've always kind of looked at us like I want to be, you know, support each other and be like, more the Avengers, but I also just feel like they're a little older. I just feel like I didn't really get the right chance to get to know them. But now that I've been hanging out with, like, Austin and Shep and I've got to spend more time with Craig, I just feel like we were like, all right, like, buddies. We're fucking friends. Like, what. Why did it take us this long? But no, I love them. They've been really supportive of me recently. And I just hope that, you know, our friendship can evolve and get stronger because I want to do like a spin off episode where we do, like, you know, beer Olympics. I want to get like, if we're going to be competitive, let's make it fun and let's do it in, like, a friendly way.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Oh, my God. That's a fantastic idea. That would be a crowd pleaser, kind of wrapping things up. Is there anything you can tease about the finale or the reunion?
Joe Bradley
You know, you don't really realize, like, what's going to make the final edit. Like, I live the. The finale in real time. Remember how explosive our premiere night was?
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yes.
Joe Bradley
Or the prom was explosive, but remember our premiere night? Like, I feel like the finale is like that times two, and there's a lot of stuff going on. Like, 12 is kind of like the build up to what's to come, and then 13 definitely feels like very much so. Like a finale. It's hard for me to watch because it doesn't end the best for me, but I feel like it's like what. What I rewatched with, like, you know, everything with me and Leva, it made me. It upset me, you know, when. When people that you love the most and it's. This show is about my career and everything I put into it while being with people that I adore and I consider family. So it was. It was hard for me to watch back. And then, you know, the reunion's even crazier, so.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
But did you guys stay at that same hotel with the thin walls?
Joe Bradley
No, thank God. I think they. They knew. They knew this time not to put us there, but I. I think I was prepared to tell NBC that I was. I was ready to pay out of pocket to not stay there. We got the VIP treatment this year. We were in a really nice hotel with, like, I don't. I didn't see anyone on my cast. It was huge. I didn't see anyone on my cast until the reunion. So I'm like, all right. They. I think they didn't want to.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
No complications this time with.
Joe Bradley
With the real reunion. They gave us, like, the. The real deal VIP treatment. So I'm. I was very grateful for that. It was an amazing experience this year.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Awesome. Well, you guys can catch Southern hospitality on Bravo on Wednesday nights. We're almost at the finale. It's been the best season yet, if you ask me. Thank you so much for being here, Joe, and we will chat with you soon.
Joe Bradley
Do it again next time you're. You're here for the fan fest. We'll run it back.
Mary Catherine Mahoney
Yes, that would be amazing.
