welcome in all you faithfuls and traders to another episode of By Order of the Faithfuls, we will be recapping season 50 of Survivor. On our show today, Richard Hatch. Let's talk about Survivor, the first episode of season 50. Just because there's a lot to kind of mull through as this show is. Well, this is the biggest cast I think they've ever had. What do you think about that? Is it, is it too much? Like for me, there was so much exposition. Right. It was a three hour first episode because you had to slog through the first hour to kind of like remind everyone who everyone is. What are your thoughts on the amount of cast that they had for season 50?
Richard Hatch
Well, one of the things I know about Survivor fans is that they're rabid. And so for the, for the 50th season, you know, there are a lot of people who know all of them, know all 50 who are out there.
Host
Yeah.
Richard Hatch
And yes, they still had to do what you're saying, introduce the players. And that took a long time. But I don't mind the number this time because they are known. And again, I'm not going to pay a lot of attention to who these early ones are. You know, Jenna and I played together and I thought she might have learned a little more than it looked like she learned last night. She was playing much harder and kind of appeared to me to be tone deaf. Yeah.
Host
You know, little hard and loose is how I was. I was thinking of it.
Richard Hatch
I agree with you. Yeah. And if she hadn't, she, she probably could have done better because I think she did learn a lot about the game and knows how to play better than what happened. So I feel for her. I wish she'd lasted longer, but I don't mind the 24. I think that number is okay. And we'll whittle them down just like always happens and challenges and, and as the game progresses.
Co-host/Commentator
What did you think about Rizzo? Is he making believe that he's emotional like that he just started crying out of nowhere? I'm like, by the way, another denier.
Host
You need to know, Richard, Dolores never cries. She has a black, black heart. And every time anyone cries she gets very upset on tv.
Richard Hatch
So look, I love the woman because she's got a brain. It's just like, wait what, you know, what are you doing? Yeah.
Co-host/Commentator
If you're going to start crying, you're supposed to be a survivor, act like one. I do not really. I cannot do it. You know, he starts getting a little talk about, you know, you're annoying at first, but I'm going to try to be here. You're 25 years old, and I remember when I was 25 doing this. And then he starts crying. I'm like, I'm done. I'm done.
Richard Hatch
Well, this is an example of your last question. This is an example of the behind the scenes stuff. This is stuff that Jeff, as executive producer now likes. He likes this. He calls it family fun, family style. And what he's trying to do is use the participants who are that emotional and reflect for CBS and himself this kind of emotion. Loving.
Co-host/Commentator
I know what you're saying.
Richard Hatch
Politically correct kind of stuff. Instead of hard players and exposing who we are bringing viewers, then talk about it later.
Co-host/Commentator
So, yeah, give me a hard player. And I want to see somebody cry for a reason. Yeah, I want to give you a reason to cry. Something happened to your friend or you had to make a decision. And you're so tired and you're so broken down now you're getting emotional two weeks in and you're hungry and you're tired, and now I'm gonna give you a reason to cry. Not a talking to.
Richard Hatch
But in the first, first episode. And the kids ballin. Because this guy reminds him of his father. Come on. James died.
Co-host/Commentator
Not done with Rizzo. I'm dead.
Host
I also kind of felt bad for Colby in that moment because I'm sure he's like, I don't. I'm not that old. Like, why? I'm like, he's like, my father's 47. Yeah. Like, I'm jacked. I'm like, young looking. Don't call me dad over here.
Co-host/Commentator
I think he was sorry he started the conversation. And that's like, when you get to know. That's like getting to know the people. Now I want to get to know the people. And then I'm going to tell you who I think is going to make it by the intestinal fortitude that I see in somebody like you.
Richard Hatch
Thanks. I know a lot of them pretty well. Like, Colby and I have history. We were on All Stars together. And I looked him in the eye. We were in the ocean. And he had. He had some really funny lines like, you know, can I call a naked gay man a stud when I caught a shark? You know, he was hysterical. But I'm like, listen, Colby, if you and Kathy kick my ass out of here today, you're next. And she goes after that. Listen, here's why. And I was so clear. And you know, I get the game. I've got proof. I know how to play this. Listen to me, pay attention. Yeah, get rid of me at some point, but use me until you go far enough in the game. He didn't listen. They got rid of me. Him and Kathy. What he went next and Kathy went right after. I mean, and here he is playing and we'll see. I'm not seeing the same kind of detachment and awareness with adaptability that's necessary for Colby to go farther. So I don't know. We'll see.
Host
Were you annoyed and men Dolores answers to by coach's speech, this inspirational speech to start the show, or were you
Richard Hatch
no end annoyed to no end?
Co-host/Commentator
So bad. So bad. Rich, Rich, me and you should watch it together. Now I'm going to tell you right now what like, I was like, oh, God, here we go. But do they call you Rich? I'm just curious. People going on the show, does anybody call you for advice before they get there?
Richard Hatch
Yeah, they really do. And some of them, like one in particular that I can think of on a couple of seasons ago, called me long before she even applied and came to Newport and brought her friends and we hung out and then she asked me all kinds of strategy and let's plan and talk and then applied and got selected and did pretty well.
Co-host/Commentator
Say she listened.
Richard Hatch
Many have. One was a professor who teaching in college and he had me zoom into his class and then got selected to go on Survivor later. Etc. So it's, it's. We're in the what now? Thousand. Almost a thousand participants. Survivor participants over these 50.
Co-host/Commentator
That's crazy.
Richard Hatch
Crazy.
Co-host/Commentator
And you were number one.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, yeah. Long time ago. Fun game, but you can. The game is still the same from my perspective or very, very similar. They. They market it and talk about this new era versus old school and, you know, how could an old school compete? That's bull crap. I mean, I went into that game without knowing a lot of stuff and had to play the way I played. I would go into one of these with idols and whatever the other twists are, and I'd play the way you need to play there. A good player is going to be adaptive and flexible. I could do it.
Host
Well, there's a lot of players. They're split up into three different tribes and we kind of learn that the show is going to be dictated by what the Fans want, which is. I do think that's a fun way of being more interactive. With a gigantic fan base. The first challenge starts, so it includes digging yourself under a log, unlocking a puzzle, tuggin a boat out into the ocean, retrieving a torch, and eventually lighting that torch to win. Team Batu wins. They're rewarded with flint and a giant bonfire. Back at camp, I wanted to ask you this because especially what happened with. Was it Kyle who got hurt later on? Is. Is there a thought of I want to win and I want to hustle and I want to work hard, but I need to be safe because, you know, the most, the best ability is availability right in this game, and if you get hurt, you're kind of screwed. Do you go into challenges being like, okay, I want to be fast, I want to be quick, I want to be strong, but I want to be smart?
Richard Hatch
Well, I think I go into everything where I want to be smart, but I don't. I don't know if there's much hesitation when it comes to challenges because sometimes you have to go all out. But in Survivor, winning challenges isn't the end all and be all. You know, getting to the end and having the jury vote for you is what the game's about. There are lots of players, Russell, a whole bunch of players who. Who thought, oh, I was robbed and. And, you know, I made. I won all. Everything. I kept winning challenges. Ozzy, who's out there now, had. Had won what, five challenges in some of the seasons he's played. It's crazy. But that doesn't get you to winning. Yeah, that. That's just a. Kind of a distraction. And so imagine if on Bachelor of Paradise they fans got to tell you who you had to date. Yeah, there's a fun twist, but it's still a distraction. You've got a date and, you know, get. It's still got nothing to do with what you're gonna do. You're gonna do what you need to do. I get it. It makes the game interesting and all of that stuff, and so does some of the twists, but you gotta stay focused on what the game's about, and that's you being the last one who this jury says you get the money.
Host
Yeah. Wow. They send. You know, each tribe has to send one person to compete in an individual challenge for tribe supplies. You know, I remember doing traders and we were doing this dragon boat race, and I. And I was nominated to steer it because everyone thought that I was like, kind of like a natural leader. And I remember in that moment I got very nervous and scared because I was separating myself from everyone else. I wonder, in a situation like this, do you want to be chosen to go compete or do you want to like, lay back in the terms of this game?
Richard Hatch
Well, clearly in the beginning you have to lay back a little bit and that's what Jenna didn't do. Yeah, but whether you got chosen or not, you kind of have to go with those road, road bumps or go with what happens if you get chosen. There are, there's potential for all kinds of upside. Like last night, she got the advantage of a block of vote and didn't have to tell anybody. That's huge.

You touched on it earlier, but I want to really kind of dive a little bit deeper into the Aussie and Coach trying to decide what to do with this game and Ozzy was like if you get the key then I won't go after it. And Coach being like I'm not agreeing to that. Are you on Coach's side or are you on Aussie side in this, in this kind of like weird little battle?
Richard Hatch
Wow, that's a great question. So deeper. Let's go deeper. I'm not on either one of their sides. Ozzy, I hope, has learned. I'm getting the sense that he's, he might have learned he's looking to play a little bit differently. He's like, he's like you. He's super handsome. He's. You've got your exact build. He's. Yeah, no, that takes you far or could take you far in the game as long as you aren't perceived as a threat. But you go out there and you're this lean and physical and whatever and you start winning every damn thing. Why aren't they going to get rid of you?
Co-host/Commentator
You're a target.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, I'm hoping He's learned not to do that. He's talking as if he thinks he's going to play better. Coach, on the other hand, is, you know, really nice guy, but, you know, out there with.
Co-host/Commentator
I don't know, he's a flashy one.
Richard Hatch
He's flashy, but he's also like, what's that? You know, in Sedona, there are vortexes.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know.
Richard Hatch
Metaphysical. And you know that.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, and he's stretching on the beach
Richard Hatch
and he's doing all the yoga salute.
Co-host/Commentator
And what, he's calling for the aliens to come. I know.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, yeah. So they both have their things, and here's the two of them acting like, you know, Ozzy's saying to him, no, let's play fair and let's play with integrity or whatever the word. Oh, come on. That's like people saying you didn't deserve to win. If the jury voted you to win. You deserve it, damn it.
Co-host/Commentator
That's it.
Richard Hatch
What's fair? You play within the rules of the game. You're playing.
Co-host/Commentator
So life's not fair.
Richard Hatch
And when Coach sat there and. And intentionally didn't agree to let whoever knocks it off win, good for him. Take it. You won. You know that. That. I'm with that. I'm with Coach on that.
Host
To fast forward a little bit in the episode, you know, Ozzy kind of uses this information, you know, kind of leaks it to Mike White to, like, kind of like ex. Like, be like, well, you got to explain yourself. He said, you did this, but you did this. To me, that seemed like. At least that's from how I saw the show. It seemed a little dirty.
Richard Hatch
So I don't think of that as dirty. Make up whatever you want, anybody. Look, this is Survivor. Make up whatever the hell you want and tell them that they called you out and, you know, whatever. So I didn't see that as bad. But what I loved about it was that Mike then turned around and very, very subtly just kind of tossed it out to let it, you know, blow up against those two. Yeah, that's something to watch. Is Mike playing a brilliant game? Maybe that's. That's something to pay attention to.
Co-host/Commentator
It backfired on Ozzy.
Richard Hatch
It did. But as he's not connected with it enough, I don't think. I don't think, like, Ozzy was aware that he was saying, let's play with integrity. You know, if it drops, I'll let you get it. You know, that's just not the game.
Co-host/Commentator
No.
Richard Hatch
Ozzy's just kind of caught up in the motions of where he is too, and probably trying to do better than he did before. I don't know.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, leave the last game behind, right?
Richard Hatch
You gotta, you gotta. And he's gotta improve, you know, he's got to improve. He's had a lot of chances to play and he's. All he's relied on is how well liked he is, how people perceive him and, and, and his physical prowess. Like he keeps winning challenges so well,
Host
they even mention it too, right? Where it's like he's playing a really old school game where like being the provider seems like something that you'd want to keep around and that's not how it's played anymore. And I thought that was an interesting quote because, yeah, things have changed since those earlier seasons.
Co-host/Commentator
You have to evolve. Yeah, you just got to evolve with that.
Richard Hatch
They shouldn't have done that even then. That would. Even when in the. For you shouldn't have done it. I was the provider, but I wasn't relying on that. Have them keep me in the game. You know, I caught fish, but when I, when it was ticked at somebody, whatever. I stopped fishing for three or four days until they got back in line and were ready for some food. They got hungry and pissy and I'm like, okay, now I'll go out for one.
Host
I wanted to ask you really quickly about Mike White returning from the show after all the success he's had with White Lotus One. He's in incredible shape. I don't know.
Co-host/Commentator
Good for you, talking about his abs.
Host
I don't even know how you get in that kind of shape when I, when you're filming 136 days, you know, in Thailand. I think they were in that last season. But listen, I, I'm around enough actors, I'm around enough screenwriters. There is, there is a genius to Mike White and I wonder what you're thinking. I'm sitting there thinking like this guy cerebrally is really, really elevated. I feel like this is going to be his season to really, really show his intelligence and get far.
Richard Hatch
I hope so. And you know, with the subtle ways in which he is doing things already in episode one make me think, well, I've always thought he understood the game pretty well and that's part of his drive, I think, to be out there and playing. He certainly doesn't need to, but I think part of his fitness is he has more money than he knows what to do. He probably has hired this personal trainer to follow him around the whole time on those.
Co-host/Commentator
I have to Say, I think a lot of them are fangirling over him.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, they are. And they want to be on White Lotus. Who wouldn't want to be on White Lotus?
Co-host/Commentator
Me and you. Right? I'm in.
Richard Hatch
The first winner of Survivor. The naked guy.
Host
Come on.
Richard Hatch
I got to be on White Lotus at some point anyway. Yeah, No, I think they were all playing to him a little bit. And he rightly says, I don't mind this. You know, the.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, I saw that. I did see that. Yeah.
Richard Hatch
But I think he's also aware that none of that matters. He's also still looking at them to. To figure out who's. Who's someone he can use to get him to the end. And that's smart. So we'll see.
Host
Rizzo starts a fashion show. Very fun, like, little kind of beast storyline. I'm wondering, if you were in said fashion show, what would you have done?
Richard Hatch
I'd have been dying for it to end, but going along with it because you gotta be. Because you gotta go along to get along in this silly game. But I'd be thinking, oh, what the hell? These people are all off on this, like, tangent. And.
Co-host/Commentator
And you'd be like, let's get our head back in the game. It's a distraction. Like you've said, these are something we can't have as distractions.
Richard Hatch
So I'd be paying attention to them and I'd be thinking, you know, who is not lost in this distraction and who. Who's just going along? You know, in House of Villains, I had to sit there like, gaga eyed watching Teresa. And I mean, she. She's literally cooking all the time or whatever. And I'm looking at her like, are you really not paying attention to what she just said? What's going on over there? Is this just, what, hat? I don't know.
Co-host/Commentator
She's not.
Richard Hatch
No, I know she's not. I couldn't believe it at first. You know, I just couldn't.
Co-host/Commentator
Totally not acting.
Richard Hatch
No.
Host
I gotta explain story arc to you guys in making reality tv, because I. Yes, it's stupid, the fashion show thing, but it does give you the story arc of Colby hating Rizzo in the beginning and then coming to love him later. Like, you get an emotional roller coaster, which to me is that someone who just likes reality tv. I thought that that was a. What. That was good storytelling.
Co-host/Commentator
It was, actually. It was, but it's. I think what Rich says is, it's not. It's not game behavior.
Host
Right.
Richard Hatch
I love it too, as somebody who watches great story, but also I'M thinking, who cares?
Host
Yeah, who cares?
Richard Hatch
Like, what it shows me is Colby's kind of a little disconnected from what he needs to win. Like, he's. I don't like him. Oh, I do now. Instead of what's going on with the game, he's. He's. Oh, Rizzo's friendly. Oh, Rizzo's got emotions. Rizzo's connected to his dad. Rizzo's treating me like somebody who can give him advice. And Colby was really, literally intentionally trying to be dad like to him, not for the game. So all of that, for me, is. Is indicative of poor gameplay.
Host
Yeah, interesting. You know, day three challenge is kind of an epic challenge. I wanted to, like, just give a quick nod to the. The game makers on this show, because this one is.
Richard Hatch
Is.
Host
Is really complex. There's a lot of stuff going on, I imagine. You know, you have to test these things multiple times, make sure you can do all this stuff. You know, players crawl through mud. They have to push. Push a giant crate across the course, throw a monkey fist through a lever, which is very, very hard for some people. Make it up this steep ramp, which ends up hurting Kyle. And then the challenge continues with you to make a puzzle all fit together to win immunity for their camp. Overall arching thoughts on this day three challenge for you, Rich.
Richard Hatch
So epic, like you said, the size of these things, the effort that goes into them, and what goes through my head when I watch people doing this. These things. Like, imagine Dolores crawling through that first part of the challenge into that net, where then you are literally all that hair all the way down, full completely of mud. Mud face the mud, hair, the mud. And so all of the game from that point on and the rest of that challenge, etcetera, you're just. It's drying, it's cracking. I'm. I'm watching somebody like Dolores, who's. I'm watching. Are they so distracted, so bothered that they're going to lose sight of how to move forward? How are you handling it? Are you like, oh, no.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, you know, that's a. Yeah. You're looking for their weaknesses.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, yeah, yeah. All the time. And these big challenges that give you all kinds of different sections and segments show you what people can and can't do. How quickly do you learn how stupid people are when they can't look at a puzzle piece?
Co-host/Commentator
And that's where you'd find my weakness,
Richard Hatch
you know, but good. You know, you want to know that. Oh, then put yourself there. You put somebody else. Look. I can't even see these colors. Are making me crazy. Some people are visual, some people are artists, some people are creative.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Exactly.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah.
Richard Hatch
You just got to find their strengths and then that's part of how you figure out who to work with.
Co-host/Commentator
Oh, wow.
Host
Obviously, Siri has a problem getting the monkey ball through the thing and it's taking a lot of time. It. Is that something that you're watching? Is that the biggest weak link? And, like, what if you're on that team or even if you're not, like, what are you thinking in that moment?
Richard Hatch
Yeah. Siri, she's a legend. She's played, you know, so many games. You know, she's really, really great and she's good TV for being so relatable. But that was a real. The precipice of danger for her when you're that, like, it didn't look it on that on last night's episode, but in reality, I learned that she was there for a half an hour or more trying to get that. That ball, and she wasn't changing what she was doing. She was just doing the same thing underhand instead of trying to throw it. So when that happens, there's no chance but that the rest of the team has a little frustration and has to ask themselves, is this somebody that I can continue to work with or would be good on other challenges, those kinds of things? She's great, but. But you can't help but wonder, is she gonna make it through this? Are they going to get rid of her because she's just dead weight?
Host
How do you become chosen for that? Because, like, and this might come across as, like, misogynistic, but if I'm like, you gotta throw this, like 5 pound ball 30 yards. I want like a gu. Like maybe played football or something. And is that like a team?
Co-host/Commentator
It's logistically just smart.
Host
Yeah, but, like, is that a team decision? Because if it is, then there's a little bit of blame to be left on the team to be, like, but you shouldn't have had her do it when you have, I don't know, some jock. That would have been one throw and Giant.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, but they're crazy dynamics on Traders, on Survivor, whatever. Behind the scenes. Yeah, it's a team decision. But if you're part of that team, how assertive do you want to be? How assertive do you not want to be? What do you want to let somebody step in and look like an idiot? Who cares if you win the challenge, if you can get rid of one of yours or one of the rest of them, you're still Getting closer to you winning. Lots of dynamics that people don't think about. So I think having heard she volunteered in this case, I don't know if you guys knew it. She volunteered to do it because she'd done the same challenge on Survivor Australia, but the Survivor Australia challenge at that time point was a little bit different and didn't have the thing in front of it that this did. And so she found herself unable to do it and was like emotionally destroyed, like defeated.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, she seemed really defeated by really down and it's right out of the box. Yep, I know. She's starting off on the wrong foot and they're after her. They are, they are. They are coming for her big time. Who was it? Was it Jen? They look alike to me. So was it, was it Chrissy or Jenna that wanted to take her down right at Jenna like you were saying? Like, Jenna just came out really aggressive and she was on her radar to get rid of her in the first place. And I'd hate to see if Siri
Richard Hatch
knew that she thought she had to be that aggressive. Jenna did, but yeah, you know, Chrissy. Oh, that one's not gonna go very far. I'm just saying.

Fast forwarding to the Tribal Council when everyone ended up voting Jenna over Siri, are you surprised that there weren't more Votes for Syria. Like, like for me, I would have been like, that was a bad play. She might be a weakling for our tribe. I, I could have been swayed either way. Did you, were you surprised or did you think it was. Was good gameplay for everyone to go against Jenna?
Richard Hatch
Well, I think it was. There are lots of ways, lots of reasons I would. I could have kept Jenna in and used her to help me get to the end, but I think it was good to get rid of her and I wasn't surprised that so many votes were for her because her gameplay was not subtle and if there isn't the subtlety to bring you further, then I can't trust you necessarily to be an ally, to be an asset. You'd worry me if you're too exposed the way she is. So I wasn't surprised that there were that many. And because it's Siri, I wasn't surprised that she had so few. Just the one vote. She's really amazing in person. She's, she's, she's as. As good at kind of building relationships and being that kind of smooth, comfortable, personal person around whom you aren't concerned or worried about, you know what's happening and that takes you far in a game like this. I mean, really far.
Host
What do you think about these, these idols that they're finding? You know, Jennifer, Genevieve finds this. Billie eilish, boomerang idol 1. I wonder if Billie Eilish even knows that that's being done in her name. I like to think that it is, but I also know producers who are there. Let's just put Bad Bunny, Billy, whatever. What are you thinking about? Like, like these idols, it seems like it's going to be fun and make a bunch of twists going forward, but I want to get your thoughts.
Richard Hatch
I think it's fun and going to be and things are going to happen too. And I love that Genevieve found it because I don't know if you remember her season, but she's a hell of a player there, there for, I don't know, 20, 30, almost 40 seasons it would be. It's hard to find play players who understood the game and were really, really playing well. But in this, these last 10 to 15 seasons, a few more really super players have started to. To emerge. Like, it's almost as if they've run out of people unaware of how to play Survivor and they're starting to get some who are, who are really, really good at it and Genevieve is one of them. So even though she only got to fifth in her last Season. I think the woman knows how to play the game and I'm really interested to see what she does.
Co-host/Commentator
I'm gonna keep an eye on her.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, yeah. She's something. And with this. Now, the thing is that she. She found it in front of other people. Yeah. So watching who else she tells about it or doesn't tell, it's not like the other one where you can keep it secret.
Co-host/Commentator
Well, if one person knows about it, somebody else is gonna know about it and it's done. You know what? It's just who do you wanna. You know, it's going to get out. So who do you want to tell to at least make them feel like you're giving them something, Right.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, exactly. You make them like you're giving them something and like you're with them. You're.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, you're with them. It's us, but it's out anyway. It's out. You're not giving them nothing. But you're exactly what I do.
Richard Hatch
Well, you would. You would and you did. You know, I watched how you played. You really didn't rock people's boat too much. And that's important. You know, you kind of. I love it. Yeah. Now in real life. Oh, I'd have some advice.
Co-host/Commentator
I would take it from you.
Host
Speaking of the idols, you know, Ozzy ends up finding one in his backpack and it's this boomerang, which is very fun. Right. But my question to you is, if you're Ozzy, how are you using that? How are you playing that going forward?
Richard Hatch
Oh, yeah. Good question. Well, Ozzy needs to focus, I think, a little bit more on just what the goal is. Instead of being different, he needs to be different. But the goal is still to bond in a way that gets the people at the end to vote you in. So you've got to be thinking about maybe bringing somebody into what, you know, secretly maybe doing something in a way that. That doesn't look as if you're schmoozing them. But. But you're. You're connecting in. In real ways the way I did. It was actually being real. Like, it sounds absurd, but as I was as honest as. As was humanly possible with the people I was playing with.
Host
Yeah.
Richard Hatch
When it came to game stuff that I didn't, I couldn't be honest about. You've gotta lie and. And be deceitful without ever showing a blip of it with just trader. As if it's.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, you're a trader. You're an excellent trader.
Richard Hatch
I want them to pick me as Traitor. When I play that game.
Host
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't say it out loud. Then people are just gonna be like, well, I heard on that podcast that you wanted that, so we were gonna vote.
Co-host/Commentator
Everyone goes in wanting to be a traitor except for me.
Richard Hatch
They know I want to. And will they? I don't know. I don't, I don't know if they'd pick me.
Host
Richard, I can tell you what's gonna happen. They're not gonna choose you. And if you could get through a couple of the first round tables without, like, just being a huge threat, being scared of you, then once traders start to dwindle down, someone's going to bring you into the turret.
Co-host/Commentator
That's it. That's a good. Yeah, yeah, that, that's a good one. I, I agree.
Richard Hatch
When they do, I'll be ready.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, I bet you you are born ready for this real quick.
Host
Ozzy does have some power, though. He's got this boomerang and he's got an extra idol. You know, I have this big theory about reality tv. When I see you too much on the first couple episodes, it means I don't think, yeah, last very long. I'm a little nervous about Ozzy's
Co-host/Commentator
camera time that you're saying the screen time.
Host
I'm nervous about his longevity on the
Co-host/Commentator
show because of the screen time.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, I think you're right. I don't think the boomerang is going to serve him well. I don't think it's going to be used. So if he's counting on that, that's not great of him. But I think, like you, I think he's got not just a little bit of a target because he's so physically competent. I think he's got a target also because he's not, he's not known to play really well. And so is that an asset to bring him along? Is he smart? Like, I don't know.
Host
You know, we got to close out the episode talking about, about Kyle and, you know, the, the doctors come and Jeff comes and, you know, makes everyone leave. I, I, my heart breaks for the kid. Like, you know, I, I hate to have anyone go out in that manner that early in the game. 1. Have you heard anything like, did he rupture his Achilles or was it just strained?
Richard Hatch
He did. He just had his, he just finished his second surgery about three weeks ago.
Co-host/Commentator
No, that's a bad one. That's a painful, horrible.
Richard Hatch
They finished this in July and he had his second surgery just three weeks ago. So he's still healing but he's. He's just a good guy. And so here's what I'd say to you, Wells, when you talk like that about. I hate to see anybody go, he just won.
Host
Yeah. Yeah.
Richard Hatch
He just got a million bucks and he's hurt. Okay. Personally, as a human. Oh, that's too bad. Bye.
Co-host/Commentator
Bye.
Richard Hatch
One down.
Host
You got 2 million. Bye. Bye.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, you know, it's. You gotta. In the game detach from that. And what I noticed was they didn't everybody around him. I mean, the tears and the kind of reaction of, oh, I hate anybody leaving. On the first season, it seemed these people aren't actors. That's something, you know, you guys know, it seemed real. These people were lost in the emotions of. Sad that one of my team members. What the hell's your team name? Even. Do you even remember they gave it to you yesterday? I mean, who cares? They make this up, you know?
Co-host/Commentator
He's my soulmate, Richard. My soulmate. I love you. I'm gonna say I love you. I don't throw that word around too much, but I love you. We get each other. Yeah.
Richard Hatch
It's just true. And I just hope they get it, you know, some of them as they move along. But that's what I'm looking for, is for which of them are using that to manipulate the situation. But it didn't look like any of them were.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Yeah, that's what I thought about, you know, in the beginning when Rizzo was crying, when he had the father talk, I'm like, please tell me this kid's kidding. But I don't think he was.
Richard Hatch
He wasn't. And that's the sad part. That's why he'll go, too. To hear him talking about, I'm gonna be a legend. Oh, buddy. Just that you're gone, you know, you're not.
Host
Kiss of death.
Richard Hatch
Yeah.
Host
Well, Richard, I want to be respectful of your time, but I have to say, like, I love your perspective on reality.
Co-host/Commentator
Amazing. So amazing.
Richard Hatch
Like what.
Host
What are your favorite reality TV shows that that isn't Survivor that we might be doing recaps for to have you back on to. To see and hear.
Co-host/Commentator
We need them back.
Host
Yeah. So good.
Richard Hatch
There's nothing better, right, Than traitors. There's nothing out there better than Traders. That show for me is, well, the game. I don't have the show. I love the show. You know, I love Alan's drama and all the rest of that, but all that distraction. The game for me of Traders is I don't know, just excites me. So that's one of them that I like a lot. I watch a lot of them because I end up on, you know, heroes versus I end up on, you know, shows with people, and I'm. I'm really not sure who they are, so I. I try to pay attention. I watch all the house. Not all, but a lot of the housewives. Just because all my background is psychology. Bachelor's in applied behavioral sciences, master's in education and counseling. One course shy of a PhD in humanities. It's about people who. People are so bad. Housewives. So many are bat crazy. I mean, I'm just. I'm just fascinated that they're functioning among one another. You know, I'm just like, wow, somebody. Some stable in the midst of it. Dolores, you know, look around at them like, what the hell's happening? I love that because it's true. You got to wonder what's happening in their heads.
Co-host/Commentator
I'm studying right now. Ashley from the Bachelor. I'm trying to get to. I want to hear what you say about her. And Brittany from Salt Lake City. I'm baffled.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, she's something. I don't know what to make of her, really. The.
Host
The.
Richard Hatch
The. The. She seems to me. Brittany, for example, seems to me so detached from.
Co-host/Commentator
See, put her on Survivor.
Host
Yeah.
Richard Hatch
From how to interact in a way that might be helpful to her, relatable to other people. I mean, I don't. I don't get it. These people know that a lot of them like Beverly Hills there, and so they know they're privileged, you know, some of them with. They're aware that their lives are a privilege, but they're detached from how they're perceived, I think, in such a way that the. The screaming and the fits and the. I don't know, maybe they're just desperate to stay on. And some of it's intentional, but again, just like this we were talking about before, a lot of it doesn't seem intentional to me.
Co-host/Commentator
It's not. I don't think it is. I can tell when it is. I can tell you when it is.
Richard Hatch
Do you want to slap her? I. I wanna. I wanna slap her. I don't wanna hear it. The tears, the. They threw her. They threw her plush toy in the water.
Co-host/Commentator
I wanted to see her cry when her daughter was talking to her, Rich. Not when they threw the unicorn in the water.
Richard Hatch
Yeah, yeah, that's different. They threw her to her little stuffed
Host
animal in the water.
Co-host/Commentator
They should have cut the head off and put it under her bed. Like the Godfather.
Richard Hatch
Yeah.
Host
All right, so to take it back to Survivor for one last question before we let you go prognosticate for us, Richard. Who do you think's gonna win season 50 after watching episode one?
Richard Hatch
Oh, God, you know, I never. I never guess. It's just so random. There are many who could, I think, and I've given you lots of hints, so I think Genevieve is a really, really super player. I think there are a lot of people there who could be so under the radar but so smart that they're going to take the whole thing. And maybe that's Camilla. You know, she certainly would deserve it if she. If she was able to get that way. And her. Her closest ally, who they had the most experience playing together. Kyle's now gone, so that would be really rewarding. But until we have more gameplay, Wells, I'm. I'm at a loss. I can't. I can't even pick. It would just be a random, like, eeny, meeny, miny, mo. I gotta see what happens and how they do it.
Host
Well, thank you so much for coming on By Order of the Faithfuls and talking season 50, episode one of the Survivor. Before we let you go, what are you working on? What do you want to promote? Where can people find you all that stuff?
Richard Hatch
Oh, I'm on all the social media. Not that I pay a lot of attention to it. And, you know, I do a number of different podcasts and things. Right now, we're hyping the House of Villains Season 3 that premieres tonight. I'm working on this. This is my passion project. Deeper, exploring what's true where reality matters. I'm trying to challenge people to go beyond their way of looking at the world, their perceptions, and recognize that we don't all know what's true. So let's explore the possibilities, keep more of an open mind. I don't know, I might be barking up a. Barking up the wrong tree with humans, but we'll see.
Co-host/Commentator
Yeah, well, I'm interested in whatever that is, Rich.
Host
Me as well. Thanks, Dolores.
Richard Hatch
And I don't know if I'll ever get started. I don't know a lot about podcasting and the people to get it organized and stuff, but I'm. I'm behind the scenes getting it ready.
Co-host/Commentator
Well, you let us know. And when that time comes, you have my 100% full support.
Richard Hatch
Such a pleasure, both of you. Thank you very, very much.
Co-host/Commentator
Thank you.
