And speaking of today on the show, we have Lord Ivar Mountain Batten, a British aristocrat, geologist, event space host, and a man who is casually related to King Charles 1 Traitors Season 3. I know. I just. I wanted to say hello and I, you know, I'd heard so much about him in the castle, but it was lovely to, you know, face to this.

He certainly is. He's like. I don't know, he's like, very much like you, but a spicier version of you. Like, you're much more laid back. And he could get. He gets like, you know, I don't know how he would have done in the castle either.

Oh, God, it would have been hysterical. But he would have. Well, I don't know. Interesting one. Because he's so likable, people would have just kept him in there.

They would have loved him. But he would have told a lot of people off.

Yeah, I think he would have pissed the gays off, that's for sure.

Let's talk about the season a little bit. You know, I got two winners here of season three hanging out. Ivor, I'm wondering, how did you go about coming into the game? What was your gameplay? What was your idea? Did you stick to it or did you have to pivot? Tell us what you were thinking about coming into the game.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Interesting. Well, I think you probably remember, I think Sam mentioned that my daughter had suggested that I. I put into chat GBT Strategies for Playing for Winning Traitors. And it. And it. It wasn't that helpful, but I mean, it was clearly, you know, it listed a number of items, keeping a low profile, forming alliances and all of that sort of stuff. And I. I guess I tried to do that, but it was the first, it was the first mission. You remember the rowing across the, across the lock. Yes, clearly. I, I think I was the only person who'd ever rode a Viking longboat before.

It was a bit of a shit show, wasn't it?

Well, I was, I thought you were the, like, I thought that was something that you would have grown up doing. Like you would know, but you knew as much as we did.

It was. And I mean, I'd done a lot of rowing in my youth and etc. But I kind of put my head above the water and said we needed to, we needed, we needed to keep the muscle on board. Do you remember?

Oh, yeah. How could we.

I agreed with you.

That went down like a lead balloon with some people.

Yeah. Dorinda. Dorinda took exception to that. And I think a lot.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

I tell you what Dorinda did is she, I don't think she took exception to that. Particularly the, the two that took real exception was Bob the drag queen and Bob Harper. Bob Harper jumped up like a scolded cat and basically said, how could he possibly sit next to somebody so sexist and whatever and ran off anyway. I didn't know point why he ran off, but he, he scuttled to the back of the, of the boat or the, the front of the boat, I don't know. But he didn't want to sit next to me. Anyway. What happened with Dorinda was because she got off onto the, onto the pontoons and of course, we all know that they were left out there for, what, at least another hour after we, at.

Least I was on it with her.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah. So I, I, I think that's right. I forgot you were on with her. I think when, you know, it was, I think it was clearly a production play. When we got back, they said, help yourself to supper. So of course we did what we were told. And then you.

[Dolores Catania]

That didn't go over well with her.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

And then you guys rocked up and, you know, some of the good stuff had been clearly eaten at that point. Well, you were with us, weren't you?

Yes, I was. I was steering the boat. I don't know if you remember, but.

I do remember with Sierra.

And so I said the same thing.

I remember saying the same thing of, like, well, we didn't, we weren't eating because we didn't want you guys to eat. We were told to eat. You can't be mad at us for that.

But here's the thing. What you both don't realize is when a housewife is going off like that. You need to let them calm down. You cannot ration with emotion. So I've Learned over my 10 years. Otherwise things just escalate. You let them go and get all the poison out and then you speak to them. But she was fine.

Absolutely. I mean, hindsight is an exact science, isn't it? I didn't know that being the only Brit. I hadn't dealt with you guys before. So basically she came in and called me ungentlemanly and that's a bit of a red to a bull. So I wasn't going to stand by and let that one go by. So that's why that escalated. But you know, I know full well that, you know, everything is ultimately done for a bit of effect.

It's so interesting to watch this season back because really the difference between winning and losing is razor thin at the first round table. I got four votes, Robin got four votes and Ivor got four votes. And I was thinking as we were watching it back, if I had just voted for Ivor, you would have gone home and I would have been safe. But that's not what happened. And you ended up winning.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah, you know, I thought about it because I just watched we just had the the first celebrity series here in the UK and I watched that and I I got to the end and I was so excited that once the final happened, you know, it was all. Watching them around. They. It was slightly different this year. They. They had the round tape or the ring or the. The. The. The cauldron of fire in the chapel this year in. In the uk. Yeah. It wasn't outside, so they. They rejigged the chapel. Well, the chapel. I mean, the round table room. And that's where the final was held. And it brought back all of that excitement of us standing around the cauldron. Remember?

Tell us more about that, what it felt like to you. Well, emotion wise, what was it? What were you feeling in your gut?

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

I was a little surprised. I mean, I couldn't get over the fact that we were all there. I mean, you know, it was. As I said, it was a huge amount of luck. And. And do you remember on the second last round table, it was neck and neck with. Not. Not you. Sorry, darling.

[Dolores Catania]

Danielle. And you.

Yeah, yeah. And it was just again, another fluke that Danielle lost and I was there. So, you know, it was a huge amount of luck, I don't think. There was an awful lot of strategy really going on. I fuck up half the time. I didn't know what the hell I was doing.

[Dolores Catania]

Both of us, actually. Ivar, you thought I was a traitor. You said, statistically wise Dolores has to be a traitor because she's a housewife.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

I mean, that's. That's where it started from. I said, statistically, there were a number of housewives, therefore one really ought to be a traitor. And then you kept voting for me, so that sort of.

[Dolores Catania]

Well, you know, I'm sorry, but we were friends. We were friends and we won together, which is. Which is what matters. And then in the end, you know, I mean, I can't believe it.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Getting back to the round, you know, the cauldron. After watching the UK final, all of those emotions came back. So I really wanted to revisit our final and I watched the whole thing. So it was about midnight by the time I got to bed because I was so keyed up and I wanted to watch our final and relive it again.

[Dolores Catania]

Oh, so you did. And isn't that exciting? That really is. And did you ever think when you got to that castle that you would have won?

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

No. I mean, I was just playing, you know, like, all of us, we were playing day by day, weren't we, really? But I were a lot of you. I mean, did you not, Dolores, go back and make notes and things like that?

[Dolores Catania]

Never.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Never. No, I didn't either. I mean, I was so tired by the time we got back, I just went straight to sleep.

[Dolores Catania]

And I'm not a strategist. My strategy was to win the trust of everyone as much as I could, but not to. Not to. I wasn't a gamer. The only time, in the very end was I did go back and I wrote down all the points on how I wanted to get Tom Sandoval out and try to convince everyone at the breakfast table how he should be murdered. And then when I got there, he was murdered. So the only time I did it was pretty much useless.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah, well, after the row with Dorinda, I realized I really had to keep a low profile. Cause that didn't help me at all because clearly.

[Dolores Catania]

Because you fought with her and then she died.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah, yeah. The first round table, you know, nobody really had any idea who to vote for. And ultimately, you know, people were just picking people that had irritated them or some little thing that they had done, you know, meant that they. They got a vote. So clearly it was very important to sort of calm it down and be a little bit more. And then Bob the Drag Queen, as you know, voted for me every time.

Two round tables, he voted for me. And then on the third one, I think he was out, wasn't he? I think that was one of the real lucky strikes I had in the fact that it was clear that I was faithful right from the word go.

He did you an absolute favor. But what people don't know is this is not your first reality show. See, I know because we're friends.

I've had a couple before. I did one with Bear Grylls in 2019. We had a program called the island, which I think was a little bit like Survivor, but effectively they dumped Bear, took us to an island in. In the Bay of Panama and. And dumped us on that. There were 12 of us, and they just gave us five liters of water and we had to survive for five weeks.

That's crazy.

It was a lot of fun, but. Yeah.

Were you naked?

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

No, it was boys and girls. We weren't.

We have a show here called Naked and Afraid, and boys and girls are naked together.

Right? Yeah, but I think there's just a pair of them, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. I mean, it would have been. This was slightly. You know, there was. There was 10, 12 of us, and, you know, the age range was from 72 to.

Yeah, I know. So it wouldn't have been a pretty sight.

So you know, they've announced that Traders Season 4 is coming out for us Americans early next year. You live in, in this kind of like wonderful in between. Right. Like you could do UK traders or now you can do US traders. If you were invited back for either of those, would you do it? And which one would you rather do?

I. Well, God, it's a very good question. First of all, I don't think I would go back because, you know, I think you've got to leave on a high, don't you? And I don't think you can't. You can't beat winning, can you, Dolores, if you ask that.

[Dolores Catania]

Oh, I would. I pray to go back. I'm like Carolyn used to. Yeah. Carolyn used to sleep with a cloak on and I sleep just dreaming about it. I would go back and it was the best time of my life, Ivor.

Oh, really?

It really was. Yeah.

Yeah.

But the likelihood of you winning a second time is quite slim, really, don't you think? I think people would jump on you straight away.

I know. And you know what? I'm okay with that. Just to get there and to be in the castle again, even just for a second. But after competing this and doing all this, you came home to James and Penny and your girls and what did everyone say to you? They could, they couldn't have thought you were going to win.

Well, they, I have a big house in the country and we have a lot of staff and they were all on their mobile phones looking to see when the reception came back. So they realized I'd clearly gone quite a long way because clearly if you were out, sadly like you Wells, you know, you. Your mobile reception came on pretty quickly.

Yeah.

Your family knew that you were on your way home.

Yeah, I believe my wife said when I called her, she goes, have you guys not started yet? And I said, oh yeah, we did.

Oh no, that's so sad.

I missed that contagious laugh, Ivor.

So they all knew that I'd done pretty well, but it was quite difficult not to say anything to any of them. Yeah, that's tough because, you know, as you know, you had what we, we filmed it in June.

So that was quite a while to, to, to keep mom, wasn't it?

There would be, there would be a trust that we would walk in having with each other that we didn't have last time. So that's a really, really good point. Now, Ivor, from all the people that we seen come and go right to the end, because you and I were at the end together. Outside of Wells, who do you think left earlier and went home that should have won or stayed longer?

Dorinda, I think she went. I don't know why she went so quickly. Why do.

Was it because they wanted to get rid of the housewives? It was like housewife hunters. Oh, yeah, Bob, the Drag queen wanted. He. He put a target on the housewives. And so did Danielle. Had an issue with them as well. Not Carolyn. And that's. Yeah. So.

Dorinda. That first day, anyway, because she had irritated me.

[Dolores Catania]

So she had to go irritate you. Yes, she did.

Well, she. She had irritated a lot of people. That was my whole argument, was. I thought. We were all. We all thought she was a traitor because she got so angry and that we were all gonna banish her that night. And then they killed her. And I was like, oh, that makes no sense. We were going to do a. Do it for them. You know, my last question.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

So we didn't vote her out. She was. She was actually murdered. Murdered.

[Dolores Catania]

She was murdered the first night. Yeah. So that's why people thought you could have been the traitor, because the last person she fought with was you. You would figure would have murdered her, Right?

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah. Okay, here's my last question.

Because you guys had had such a unique ending to the show where you had a lot of faithfuls win. If. When I was watching it back, I. I was thinking, if I was in your guys's shoes, I would be nervous that because there were so many of you guys left, that the odds are that one of you guys would have been a traitor and then would have stolen the money. Was there ever any thought in your mind, Ivor, that one of the. The final people there was a traitor?

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

You can never be a hundred percent certain.

[Dolores Catania]

Only if you're a trader.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Exactly.

But I. I mean, I was fairly sure Dylan was. Was faithful? I was going to say straight, maybe.

I was fairly sure Dylan was. I mean, because right from the word go, we had a sword. Well, I mean, you know, I like to think we had. But clearly Dylan also fancied Bob Boston Rob, didn't he?

Oh, for sure.

So I think probably the mo. The one I was least sure of was you, Dolores. Really, Mike, from the word go. But. And then who was our fourth person?

Gabby.

Yeah, Gabby. But actually, you know, I think on that last round table, we sort of had this, you know, alliance. Alliance that, you know, it would be a bit miserable to vote somebody else out just for, you know, 5,000 more dollars or something like that. Because by the time, you know, taxes. Yeah, yeah. And all of that, you know, we're very lucky in the uk we don't pay tax on winnings.

[Dolores Catania]

Oh, nice.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

So. So that, for me, that was all tax free.

[Dolores Catania]

So what? We paid Scotland taxes and I paid New Jersey taxes as well.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Oh, really? God. I know my tax is due at the end of the month, so I haven't paid anything yet for last year.

[Dolores Catania]

Oh, don't spend it what's not yours. We get in trouble for that.

It must be nice.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah, I think we had a, you know, we were, once we got rid of Brittany, we were fairly sure that we were all faithful, but as you said, never be.

[Dolores Catania]

Never really. No.

And of course, you know, production. The last person that had to reveal himself was of course, Dylan. And so we were all thinking, Christ, yeah, but painful.

[Dolores Catania]

But if I could speak for both of us and Gabby as well, at the time we were just, you know, I think, and I remember and we could end it on the most beautiful note because you said the nicest thing, Iver, when we were around that fire pit. You said, I would rather lose than vote out another friend.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah.

[Dolores Catania]

You basically said something, I don't know the exact verbiage of what you said, but if you can try to remember what that was.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

God, doesn't. That doesn't sound like me at all. Are you sure it wasn't somebody else, maybe?

[Dolores Catania]

Delta? No, I think you said that, you said that I'm here with, you know, friends and I, I think we've sent enough people home who we were close with and wrong about something to the fact that at this point I, I'd hate to send another friend home.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

That's it. I mean, I, I, that was all the way through. You know, it was much nicer that we, we finish all together and for the sake of another five, $10,000 or whatever. What was the point, you know, because then you create such animosity for what, you know, it may make good TV if you delete one other person, but, you know, that's not really very nice, is it?

[Dolores Catania]

That was nothing, not any characteristic of either one of us winners. It was a beautiful way to end it since it ended terribly the season before when they voted out MJ at the very last bit. And that was really hard. I hated to see that. But yeah, I wouldn't have changed any experience I had there and including winning with you, Dylan and Gabby.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Yeah. And have you actually just go back to mj? Have you spoken to mj? How does he.

[Dolores Catania]

I was just with her yesterday.

[Lord Ivar Mountain Batten]

Right. And how does she feel about that? Being voted out at the very last minute? Was she quite.

[Dolores Catania]

She wasn't. Yeah, yeah. She's still not over it.

Yeah, yeah.

How could she be?

Yeah, No, I agree. Absolutely. And, and of course you, you had the Benefit of. Of really knowing that series much more than I did. So that probably stuck in your mind much more as well.

It absolutely did. And it really hit me hard to watch it before I even got to, you know, when I binged these things and I saw that that had happened. I think that was a. I don't think I would have done anything differently whether I saw that or not. I'm not like that type of a greedy. Not that that's greedy, but it's not my way. But, yeah, I think you should go watch it, Iver, and that'll make you appreciate even more. Even more what you and I and Dylan and Gabby did.

So, yeah, no, I thought it was a lovely ending. My only concern was what the wider audience might have perceived that it was kind of boring. But actually, you know, I'm sure we all asked a lot of people and everybody seemed to think it was the perfect ending.
