Welcome back to another episode of Two T's and a Pod with Myself and Teddy. And we have a huge announcement.
Tamara Judge
Huge what?
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, Teddy, you were on Masked Singer. Oh, you, my friend. And you kept it quiet from everybody.
Tamara Judge
I didn't even tell anyone. I didn't even tell you.
Teddy Mellencamp
I know, I know. Now I know I can trust you.
Tamara Judge
Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
You were obviously told you could not tell anybody.
Tamara Judge
You can't tell anyone.
Teddy Mellencamp
And so when you were performing, I need to know all the details.
Tamara Judge
Okay?
Teddy Mellencamp
When you were performing, was anybody in the audience that, like, you couldn't invite? I mean, if they put your dad in the audience, that might Be a dead giveaway.
Tamara Judge
No, like, when I was actually performing the songs, no one I know in the audience.
Teddy Mellencamp
Do other people have, like, is it just the audiences opened up to the.
Tamara Judge
I mean, America votes or the audience votes?
Teddy Mellencamp
So they can't have anybody there supporting them because it would be a dead giveaway.
Tamara Judge
Yeah. And everybody that is there has to sign an NDA. And I walked around with a shirt on. Like, I had to be covered at all times. So I wore a black hoodie that said, please don't talk to me with it over my head. And then, you know, those, like, be like beekeeper hats.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, my gosh.
Tamara Judge
One of those in black. So if I wanted to go anywhere, I had to be completely.
Teddy Mellencamp
Were you able to talk to any of the other contestants?
Tamara Judge
No. You talked to no one?
Teddy Mellencamp
Because I interviewed Todd and Julie Chrisley last week.
Tamara Judge
Thank God I beat them. Whew.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, my God. What was the experience like?
Tamara Judge
I mean, of course, there were parts that were really. I mean, I'm not a good singer. I know that.
Teddy Mellencamp
Do they auto tune anybody's voice at all?
Tamara Judge
No, that, like, people thought that we recorded prior to.
Teddy Mellencamp
I thought so. Because you're in that costume, there must be a mic right up by you.
Tamara Judge
Hold the mic. And that's where my giveaway was that how nervous I was. You could see my mic shaking.
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, when Jenny McCarthy goes, oh, she's really nervous.
Tamara Judge
Yeah. And I'm like, I think Jenny McCarthy knew the first time.
Teddy Mellencamp
You do?
Tamara Judge
Yeah. Cruz knew within seconds.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, you didn't tell your kids?
Tamara Judge
I didn't even tell my kids. And then we were watching Masked Singer because it's their favorite show. And Cruise goes, mom, stop it.
Teddy Mellencamp
That gave me chills.
Tamara Judge
That's you. And then he's like, please tell me you didn't go home first.
Teddy Mellencamp
You're like, no, second.
Tamara Judge
No second.
Teddy Mellencamp
So you had two appearances. Like, you. Did you have to do rehearsals? Did you have to, like, were you. That you obviously had to be fitted for your costume? Were you able to pick your own costume, or do they pick them for you?
Tamara Judge
So you have a call and you just talk about life. Life.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah.
Tamara Judge
And then they call you back and they've drawn up a costume for you. So that's how I became the Calla Lily.
Teddy Mellencamp
Okay.
Tamara Judge
It's.
Teddy Mellencamp
What is Calla Lily Symbolize?
Tamara Judge
I think it's like rebirth.
Teddy Mellencamp
Okay.
Tamara Judge
So I think that's why they chose that for me.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, I love that for you. But I love.
Tamara Judge
They also were amazing because most of the heads weigh a bajillion pounds. And they made mine really lightweight.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, for you to be able to hold it up.
Tamara Judge
Yeah, so I would be able to hold it up.
Teddy Mellencamp
Is it hot in there? Do you have your own air conditioning unit?
Tamara Judge
You're not hot. But, like, it's only because I'm always cold. Like, I have the heat on right now.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yes, I know. I almost died last night. I spent the night, and it was 100 degrees. I'm like, teddy, please. And you're laying on a heating pad with blankets over you. I'm over there sweating bullets. Like, I can't help it.
Tamara Judge
I can't help it. But there was somebody, like, when I. You're kind of. Then they bring you out and you're in your costumes and you're getting ready to perform or rehearse or whatever it may be. And as I'm standing there, there's, like, I don't know, six rows of, like, pipe and drape. And I heard somebody freaking out next to me, so I was trying to figure out who it was.
Teddy Mellencamp
What were they freaking out about?
Tamara Judge
They were just freaking out because of how long it was taking. Oh, really?
Teddy Mellencamp
So there was an asshole amongst you?
Tamara Judge
Yeah, there was someone that was flipping out, but I don't know.
Teddy Mellencamp
So you, to this day, you don't
Tamara Judge
know who it was? No, I never. Because we. I. I know. It's a girl.
Teddy Mellencamp
Huh?
Tamara Judge
But I didn't recognize her talking voice or her yelling voice, so.
Teddy Mellencamp
And obviously, now the intro. I can't remember. You were in the intro. When they do, like, your backstory and you talk, but they disguise your voice, and you talk about what's been going on. And then isn't that where they show a dove? Like, they give you little clues. They give the audience and the judges little clues to who you are. They had a slate. And I remember Jenny McCarthy goes, oh, they must be on TV. The wedding ring, was that supposed to symbolize housewife? Cause I'm like, they should have put a line through the wedding ring.
Tamara Judge
I think it was supposed to be diamond.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, diamond.
Tamara Judge
Oh, you thought she's.
Teddy Mellencamp
I thought it was about being married.
Tamara Judge
I did, too, actually. And I thought that I didn't have the heart to tell him that.
Teddy Mellencamp
That makes sense. They could have just plopped down a big old crystal diamond. I think that would be. I mean, they want to give subtle clues, obviously. And then the anchor was for cruise, right?
Tamara Judge
Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
Okay. They should have showed a cruise ship again, Maybe that's too much of a giveaway, right?
Tamara Judge
Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
Now, were you at any time, like, scared to do this or when the opportunity came to you, you're like, yeah,
Tamara Judge
let me think about that.
Teddy Mellencamp
Or were you like, I'm all in.
Tamara Judge
I. I needed so badly to do something. Yeah. When I wasn't feeling well that I was really excited to do it.
Teddy Mellencamp
Did it take a toll on you? Just like, like you said, wearing the costume and performing, like was it hard for you to do it or were
Tamara Judge
you like, I mean it was fun. It was as hard as BravoCon.
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, BravoCon wasn't easy for you.

Before AT&T business Wireless, checking out customers on our mobile POS systems took too long. Basically a staring contest where everyone loses. It's crazy what people say during an awkward silence. Tamara Judge
AT&T business Wireless Connecting changes everything.
Teddy Mellencamp
Have you ever performed in front of people?
Tamara Judge
Like, I mean, I've seen singing. I've gone on stage with my dad before and sang with him.
Teddy Mellencamp
Were you sex?
Tamara Judge
No. Well, yes. But also I've done it with Kyle
Teddy Mellencamp
and as a group. As a group, it's not like just yourself.
Tamara Judge
Never myself.
Teddy Mellencamp
Did you ever want to be a singer?
Tamara Judge
When I was in the third grade, I had a solo. My Venus, My Venus, My.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, that's great. Goddess of Love. Okay, we heard enough.
Tamara Judge
I'm just kidding. I'm not that bad.
Teddy Mellencamp
Did your dad give you any advice?
Tamara Judge
He did.
Teddy Mellencamp
He did. Well, I want to hear the advice. And I also want to ask you did he have to sign off on you using his song?
Tamara Judge
It's not. He doesn't own the.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, he doesn't own that.
Tamara Judge
The rights to him anymore. So it's the first time a John Mellencamp song's been used because they sold the.
Teddy Mellencamp
So how did you. How are you able to sing it? Like, they have to go, who owns it now?
Tamara Judge
Whoever. Whoever it is, they have to go and get it approved. And so somebody owns his masters now.
Teddy Mellencamp
So he sold it?
Tamara Judge
Yeah. Oh, he would have never approved it. Are you kidding me?
Teddy Mellencamp
He wouldn't have?
Tamara Judge
No.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yes, he would.
Tamara Judge
I don't think so.
Teddy Mellencamp
What advice did he give you?
Tamara Judge
He's like, don't worry about how you sound, but sing out and be proud. The only person I did tell that I was doing it was my dad.
Teddy Mellencamp
Because you were going to use his song.
Tamara Judge
Because let me use this song. But by the way, that wasn't my idea. I wasn't like, I want my first song to be a super emotional one. Fight song.
Teddy Mellencamp
That was an emotional one.
Tamara Judge
I mean, I was crying inside my mask during that. Shaking all the things. And then they asked me, would I do Life Goes on for the second song? And I was like, I'm for sure getting picked. They're gonna know that it's me now. And then Jenny McCarthy, she knew.
Teddy Mellencamp
Did she reach out to you at all?
Tamara Judge
She did. She sent me a message right afterwards.
Teddy Mellencamp
What'd she say?
Tamara Judge
She was just like, you know, I'm so proud of you for doing this. We're rooting for you. I mean, all of them were. They were. Everybody. I can say that of all the productions I've ever worked on, everybody is so kind and goes above and beyond to make sure that you're comfortable.
Teddy Mellencamp
Wow.
Tamara Judge
And, like, I loved everyone.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah, that's good. So it makes it easier and more enjoyable. Do you. Now that you're done, is there any. Like, there was no. Is there an end of the season? Like, everybody gets on stage or anything like that?
Tamara Judge
No, there's no send off. The send off is immediately once your head is taken off, like a big hook.
Teddy Mellencamp
Get out of here.
Tamara Judge
Yeah. And then. And then you sing it one last time and they come up and sing with you.
Teddy Mellencamp
Did you have to go for, like, fittings for the costume?
Tamara Judge
Yeah, I had to go for a bunch of fittings.
Teddy Mellencamp
I think I did more. So it wasn't just two days at the studio. You had to do a lot of things. You had to record your intro. Right. You have to record that.
Tamara Judge
I had to record my Intro. But I did that one of the days that I was like, you have a lot of time during the day.
Teddy Mellencamp
Okay. So you just sit there, like, in a. Like a studio, and you read whatever they wrote.
Tamara Judge
Yeah. Oh.
Teddy Mellencamp
And then they disguise your voice, and
Tamara Judge
then you tell them, this doesn't sound like me, or this sounds like me, or.
Teddy Mellencamp
Huh. And so you said you had no choice on what songs you were singing. So the fight song.
Tamara Judge
The fight song. They had given me a couple of other options to choose from. I think one was Fighter from Christina Aguilera.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, that's a hard one.
Tamara Judge
Yeah. And then which one did I want to do? Oh, I wanted to do Jesus, so I dug my key right through the set. Yeah. Before he cheats.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, geez.
Tamara Judge
I wasn't thinking about the angle of yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
As your story.
Tamara Judge
Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
Like, it wouldn't fit into your story.
Tamara Judge
Yeah. So then they give you options, and then you sing them, and then they decide which one's best.
Teddy Mellencamp
Were you sad to be off so soon?
Tamara Judge
I was sad. But I also knew, like, I'm not a good singer. And I could hear. You can hear the other singers.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, you can?
Tamara Judge
Yeah. Like, when I was in my dressing room, I could hear the person next to me practicing.
Teddy Mellencamp
Who do you think was the best singer?
Tamara Judge
Like, what.
Teddy Mellencamp
What costume were they in?
Tamara Judge
I don't even see this person in a costume.
Teddy Mellencamp
Oh, so you don't know.
Tamara Judge
She sounded really good. Like, I was like, if this is who I'm up against, I'm a goner. Ah.
Teddy Mellencamp
So like we said, you sang one of your dads and that was your unmasking song. Was your dad's. Was there any hesitation in using his song? Were you, like you said earlier, like, they're going to know who I am. Did you have another song in mind that you wanted to do?
Tamara Judge
For a moment, I was like, I'm not going to say yes to this, because I've already. People love to say I live in my dad's shadow and yada, yada, yada. But then I started thinking. I'm like, you know what.
Teddy Mellencamp
What do you. You got. Who cares what they think?
Tamara Judge
And I have the opportunity to go up and sing my dad's song. I'm gonna do it. I'm so proud of him, and I wanted to give it the best shot that I can. And, yeah, I did.
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, your unmasking was very emotional. Yeah, right. What were you feeling in that moment? Like, what was going through?
Tamara Judge
I mean, I don't. I was. The entire time I was on stage, I was Shaking so much that that's what's taking up the majority of, like, my mindset.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah.
Tamara Judge
And I was, like. I was worried that I wouldn't know the words.
Teddy Mellencamp
Okay, let's talk about that. Because they're not pre recorded. I had thought that they were pre recorded. And then you just go up there and act like you're singing. So you have to memorize.
Tamara Judge
You have a teleprompter. But remember, I can't see very well, and I can't wear my glasses on.
Teddy Mellencamp
Okay. So there is a teleprompter for people that can see.
Tamara Judge
Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
Huh. Okay.
Tamara Judge
All right.
Teddy Mellencamp
So.
Tamara Judge
But I also. I'm not one of those that can, like, look down and then look back up and, like, carry on exactly where I left off.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah. Oh, my goodness. Yeah.
Tamara Judge
And the costume is really heavy. And, I mean, it was beautiful. Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
So we already talked about. Is. Is Jenny the only one that reached out to you?
Tamara Judge
Jenny was the only one that reached out to me privately. But all of them. All of the judges were so nice. During the unmasking and even leading up to it, I mean, a lot of people thought I was Selma Blair.
Teddy Mellencamp
I was just gonna say that. Or Christina Applegate.
Tamara Judge
Christina Applegate. Both, who are, you know, similar situations.
Teddy Mellencamp
Having health issues.
Tamara Judge
Having health issues and struggling to be. But I think that's because of how unsteady I was on my feet. I'm definitely feeling stronger than I was then.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah. For sure. Would you ever do something like this again?
Tamara Judge
Of course.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah. She wouldn't turn down any opportunity.
Tamara Judge
I mean, I'm not gonna turn down.
Teddy Mellencamp
She'd be on House of Villains next.
Tamara Judge
Would you ever go on mas singer Teddy?
Teddy Mellencamp
We've all heard my voice.
Tamara Judge
We just heard mine here.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yours is better than mine, sweetie. I just. I don't think singing's for me. I've actually talked to a producer that's on that show, and she asked me the same thing. Would you ever do it? I think you should do it. I'm like, no. I don't know. I mean, again, I'm like you. I'm not gonna say no to anything. Everything's a great experience. But would I embarrass myself 1000%? But I've been doing that for the past 18 years, so it's really nothing new.
Tamara Judge
Right. Well, I mean, the Chrisleys were croissants,
Teddy Mellencamp
and I asked them, do you know why they were croissants?
Tamara Judge
No.
Teddy Mellencamp
Because Savannah's ex boyfriend was from Paris, and he died on a. And on a motorcycle.
Tamara Judge
Great.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah. And Then we know why the ball and chain was there.
Tamara Judge
Yeah, that's.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah. To me, his. Maybe because I know him personally, it was a dead giveaway. I wouldn't have known that was Julie, but I absolutely knew that was Todd.
Tamara Judge
Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
His voice completely gave it away.
Tamara Judge
Well, I think mine did, too.
Teddy Mellencamp
Well, I.
Tamara Judge
My speaking voice.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yes.
Tamara Judge
Is similar to my singing voice.
Teddy Mellencamp
I mean, your first song, I thought you did really well. Eddie's like, wow, she can sing.
Tamara Judge
Really?
Teddy Mellencamp
She can sing. And then there was the second song,
Tamara Judge
and then there was the second song, and then there was showing of how many other talented singers there are that actually sing for a living.
Teddy Mellencamp
Do you think it's fair that they do have talented singers go on there?
Tamara Judge
Kind of like Dancing with the Stars, right? I think it's shifted. I think at the beginning, it was a bunch of just athletes, and I
Teddy Mellencamp
think they should separate them. I think that they should do one where there is, like, maybe professional singers that can go on this, and then they have some that, you know, don't sing.
Tamara Judge
But also, I like when it comes to, like, Dancing with the Stars, for example, like, I would feel very insecure going on that show because I see how well all the dancers are.
Teddy Mellencamp
Yeah, yeah.
Tamara Judge
But when you're on Masked Singer, you're masked, so no one sees you hide behind that. Yeah.
Teddy Mellencamp
Both of them scare me. Dance for the Stars.
Tamara Judge
And I want to see you on one of them one day.
Teddy Mellencamp
I want to see you on Dance for the Stars.
Tamara Judge
Oh, my gosh. We couldn't even do a TikTok just now.
Teddy Mellencamp
I know, right after you write your book
Tamara Judge
Unbothered.
Teddy Mellencamp
Unbothered. No. You should be very bothered.
Tamara Judge
Extremely bothered.
Teddy Mellencamp
Extremely bothered.
Tamara Judge
More bothered by the day.
Teddy Mellencamp
You bother me.
Tamara Judge
Thanks, guys, for tuning in. This is an I heart podcast. Guaranteed human.
