This is the Eds with Eddie Judge and Edwin Arroyave.
Eddie Judge
Welcome to the Eds podcast. I am on location at the Bottle Rock Festival, and today I have the privilege of interviewing my new friend, Paulie Connell. Can I say that right?
Michael Tuda
You did a really good job of that one. You sound Irish.
Eddie Judge
Paulie Connell is in a relationship with the Real Housewives New Jersey cast member Dolores Catania. Dolores and Paulie have been together since 2021 and has filmed R H O N J with Dolores for two seasons. Two years.
Michael Tuda
I know.
Eddie Judge
Holy.
Michael Tuda
Legendary.
Eddie Judge
I can't wait to get into this. First of all, Paul, I just want to get to know you better. Where did you grow up? Tell me a little bit about yourself when you were young.
Michael Tuda
So I grew up in Ireland, which is. Yeah. A lot of miles away from here.
Eddie Judge
Okay. What's it like growing up in Ireland?
Michael Tuda
It's cool. It's cool. Yeah. Having two kids that grew up in America and seeing the difference, it's cool. It's. It's. There's definitely different diversity there.
Eddie Judge
What's it like growing up in Ireland? Do you have siblings?
Michael Tuda
I do. I have two brothers and a sister over there still. We're just there actually a couple of. Couple of months ago with them. Yeah. Yeah.
Eddie Judge
Do you go back often?
Michael Tuda
We do, yeah, we do. Yeah. We're actually going back in August for one of my nephew's weddings. Nice. Yeah. Trip. You should come.
Eddie Judge
I hear Ireland is incredibly beautiful.
Michael Tuda
Yeah.
Eddie Judge
Even my dad took a trip up there, and when he came back, he was like, it's the most beautiful place.
Michael Tuda
So I think you would like it.
Eddie Judge
I. I definitely.
Michael Tuda
And I think they would like you?
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
Yeah.
Eddie Judge
Okay. I don't drink much. I don't know if they like me.
Michael Tuda
You're a good looking guy, so I think you'll do okay.
Eddie Judge
All right, Polly, I got a couple of questions for you so that our audience gets to know you better. As you know, I've been on the show for Real Housewives for a long time, and I know that my experience, not necessarily personally, but there's been a lot of edits on the show that don't really reflect the real person, the real character. So I want the audience to get to know the real Paulie, and I'm gonna throw some questions at you. Okay.
Michael Tuda
That's cool.
Eddie Judge
So you are from Ireland. Tell me what. What drove you to come to America?
Michael Tuda
I. I just, you know, I was always fond of America, watching tv and, you know, being from Ireland, you see this big country, and then somebody that I. That I knew that was here, that was like a family member was like, come over and take a look. And that was it.
Eddie Judge
That was it.
Michael Tuda
Once I got here, I was like.
Eddie Judge
Wow, this is now. Was it Jersey, the first place you saw in America, or what was the first place?
Michael Tuda
New York. It was in Rockland County. Pearl river was the first place.
Eddie Judge
Okay.
Michael Tuda
Smaller place outside New York City.
Eddie Judge
Interesting.
Michael Tuda
Yeah.
Eddie Judge
Never seen it. Is it like Ireland beautiful, or is it.
Michael Tuda
It's got the second biggest St. Patrick's Day parade in the world. So it's very Irish.
Eddie Judge
Yes.
Michael Tuda
Like a home away from home.
Eddie Judge
I like it. I like it. Do you feel like you. There was a culture shock when you came over here? Did you feel at home because.
Michael Tuda
Yeah, definitely a culture shock.
Eddie Judge
Okay.
Michael Tuda
Yeah, yeah.
Eddie Judge
What was so different?
Michael Tuda
I mean, the speed of everything was very fast.
Eddie Judge
Yeah. It's New York.
Michael Tuda
Yeah. The world moves so much faster over here.
Eddie Judge
Your parents still there?
Michael Tuda
No, my mom and dad have passed.
Eddie Judge
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
Michael Tuda
Yeah. Okay. Mom was on the show. No kidding. Yeah, she was. Yes. She got a little. Dolores. Wendy went to Ireland with the cast trip. So Dolores got an opportunity to bring my mom to meet her at the. At. At the castle, where they stayed in Ireland.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
So it was pretty cool. It was actually. It's a nice memory to have that she got to be on TV once in her life, which you say every human eventually gets on tv. Yeah, but it was on the Housewives and with Dolores.
Eddie Judge
So what did your mom think about the show?
Michael Tuda
She loved it. She loved all those. She said they're all crazy.
Eddie Judge
Entertainment.
Michael Tuda
Entertainment. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Eddie Judge
Okay. So I understand you're A self made man in the electrical world. What do you do for work?
Michael Tuda
I, I, I organize people to do the right thing in the electrical world. So, okay, not an electrician, but I have electrical contracting company and basically what we've done is we've manifested having the right people, hired the right people and we, you know, we just, we just do a really good job. So we do high end electoral contracting in New York City, Florida and some other states very soon.
Eddie Judge
Fantastic. Yeah, that's great to hear. You're a true entrepreneur, I would say. So you see the opportunity and you take it.
Michael Tuda
That's it.
Eddie Judge
Let's see, let's get into marriage and family. Rumor is that you and Dolores met at an Apple store. Is that true?
Michael Tuda
It is true. She followed me.
Eddie Judge
She followed you?
Michael Tuda
She's kind of stalking me a little bit.
Eddie Judge
You just answered my next question. Who made the first move? Tell me about that. Because the first time I met my wife, it was very magical. It was the first time I've ever seen birds and stars and flies. And it was just this weird feeling. Tell me about the first time you saw Dolores and what caught your eye.
Michael Tuda
So when I was introduced to Dolores, I did, I did not know anything about the housewives.
Eddie Judge
Okay.
Michael Tuda
So, yeah, I was introduced to her. And then my friend was like, you know, I want you to go on a date with my friend. I'm like, okay. So she sent a photograph and I'm like, oh, oh, she's very pretty. And so we start talking, we swap numbers and we text. And then Dolores said one day she goes, oh, let's just go for dinner. Let's just cut to the chase and we'll meet up. So I'm like, okay. I'm like, I got to go get a new iPhone because my phone is damaged. I'm going to go to the Apple store in Tyson's corner, so we'll go for dinner tonight. So I'm in the Apple store and at the time it was true Covid. It was coming out of the end of COVID so everybody had masks on. And I remember this, this person walked in the store with these Lululemons and this like tight T shirt and hair, those boobies going everywhere, and jewelry. And I'm like, please don't tell me that's Dolores. Because I, I hadn't met her at this point.
Eddie Judge
Not even a picture?
Michael Tuda
No, I seen a photograph, but I had never met her in person. We'd spoke on the text, on the phone. She walked straight up to me. I wish the mask could cover my face because I was so embarrassed. I was like, so scared because I'm looking at her going, I oh my God. This. This is a hottie. Yeah, she hottie. So she kind of got me at the word. Hello.
Eddie Judge
Wow, that's a great story.
Michael Tuda
Yeah, no, she did.
Eddie Judge
I love it.
Michael Tuda
Yeah.
Eddie Judge
Yeah. And then you guys went to dinner from there?
Michael Tuda
We went to Panera Bread next door.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
Okay. Yeah, we had some green tea and we hung out for a bit. That's how it all started.
Eddie Judge
Now, how long did you spend together the first time, like talking, Was it like a. A marathon of 10 hours or like.
Michael Tuda
It was like six hours? We couldn't get away from each other and that's when we knew it was like it was important that we, we kept that going.

Eddie Judge
I understand you have two kids.
Michael Tuda
I do.
Eddie Judge
And how was it bringing the family or merging the family together? Your kids, her kids. How was that transition?
Michael Tuda
It was very. I was actually really simple and it was simple because her kids are so beautiful. And they were, they were, they were leaning into my children. Yeah. And they never, there was never intentions about like Dolores being on a show. It was just love to love and they were, they were just so good with my kids and my, my kids never understood like you know, hey, these people, these are just normal that down around TV that like this. But it was such a transition. It was so cool. And I mean my kids love her and, and I love four kids too.
Eddie Judge
That helps that. That's such a good story. Do you have a nightmare of an Ex or is she cool?
Michael Tuda
No, she's very cool.
Eddie Judge
Okay.
Michael Tuda
Big, big favorite fan of Dolores and Dolores fan of hers and great mom. She loves Frankie, she loves Gabby, she loves Big Frank. Like, it's. It's a blended family. I wouldn't. I'm the guy that would say, oh, that's crazy. How can you do that? But, no, it's. It's. It's a good thing, man.
Eddie Judge
Now, one thing my wife told me or shared with me about Dolores is that her and Frank had a. Like, a very amicable, wonderful separation. And, you know, that's not normal. You know, when two people separate, usually it's just horrific. And I thought, well, okay, that's. That's cool. And they're still friends, right?
Michael Tuda
They are.
Eddie Judge
So do you guys spend a lot of time together?
Michael Tuda
We do, yeah. Yeah.
Eddie Judge
Is it weird?
Michael Tuda
It was at first.
Eddie Judge
Okay.
Michael Tuda
A million percent. And I would tell people if they were going to think about doing this, and they put up the red flags and go, this is weird. It is.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
Because everything is different. Right. So every. Every situation is different. Just try it and see what happens.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
It doesn't have to work, but mine did.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
And I was the one guy that said it would never work.
Eddie Judge
Yeah. In my experience, it didn't work. It was. It was a horrific experience. And, you know, the guy tried to do everything he could to get back at Tamra, including alienating the kids, and it's just a terrible situation. So mad respect for you. And I. I love Frank. I met him at Bravo. Con guy. I love. Yeah. Shout out to Frank.
Michael Tuda
Shout out to Frank. Italia. Miami Vice.
Eddie Judge
Miami Vice. Now, did. Don't you have a special name for him like I do?
Michael Tuda
Yeah, it was. It was. So. So, you know, Frank, in his childish ways, you know, kind of christened me Buzz Lightyear, which. Which, you know, I can kind of see like I'm a superhero. That's a pretty big deal.
Eddie Judge
You know, it' Infinity and beyond.
Michael Tuda
To infinity and beyond. Right. You know, it took me a while. You know, I mowed over, and being Irish, like, I want to be sarcastic, but I had to go deep on this one. I figured Mr. Potato Head.
Eddie Judge
I just figured it was take his.
Michael Tuda
Arms off because his arms are falling off. Because he's, like, you know, literally falling off him at this stage, because he's. Yeah, but no, no, it's a. It's a good thing.
Eddie Judge
That's funny.
Michael Tuda
And then I end up buying a potato farm.
Eddie Judge
You bought him a home?
Michael Tuda
I bought him a home. Ye.
Eddie Judge
Hey, Frank, if you're listening. You got a home no matter what.
Michael Tuda
You got a friend.
Eddie Judge
I love it. All right. Dolores has been on the show for 10 years. When you met her, you just said you didn't know she was on reality tv. Had you ever seen the show before you met her? Had you? Were you familiar with it?
Michael Tuda
I was. So I used to see the show on in the House as my ex wife used to watch. It would have been Caroline Manzo and Theresa Giudice. The whole table turn thing.
Eddie Judge
Yeah, yeah.
Michael Tuda
And that was it. That's all I knew of the show. And I honestly, I was the one guy that was like, like what, what is this? What is this? Because I was like a three second viewer.
Eddie Judge
Yeah. Obviously you don't get it all you.
Michael Tuda
See, so you don't get it.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
And then when you meet the characters and the people and you see them and you go, these are actually real people. These are real stories. And like yourself, camera and wherever else you're like, whoa, these are storm of people.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
They're sharing the life with you. Like it's pretty cool.
Eddie Judge
It is. And that's the side that it's hard to really see for me because there's so much toxicity involved preceding that or post that. Right. You know, there's such good moments that we experience on the show and then there's just these terrible moments, like I don't, I don't want to be a part of this anymore. Right. Have you experienced anything like that? Like I, I just don't want to be a part of this.
Michael Tuda
I did, I did. You know, being from Ireland, I've got pretty thick skin. So you can tell me what you want, say what you want about me, call me, whatever. I really don't care when you insult Dolores. To me, that's like. Yeah, that's below the belt.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
And I see these people that they do that. I mean, I feel bad for them because, you know, I know what they're doing. Right. Because it's just their only way to vent. And I get that. But at the same time it's like, it's, it's kind of like this person's giving you everything to say everything to look at them. Right. You look at this person, they're giving you their life.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
You can have an opinion on it because they're public people, whatever. But like be nice.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
Don't just, just be nice. That's it. Be considerate. They're putting the life out there for you. You know, there is some benefits to it for them, but they're still doing it, you know.
Eddie Judge
You know, one of the hardest times I experienced on the show was I understood at a moment that this is supposed to happen. The drama has to happen in order for the show to go on. Right. But when I'm sitting across a table and some douchebag dude is attacking my wife, I had to make a decision. Do I want to get into this because we are producing a show, or do I want to let my wife handle this situation because she's way more experienced than I am.
Michael Tuda
Right, right, right, right.
Eddie Judge
And I ended up letting her experience or, you know, her knowledge and ability to handle herself manage the situation, and it was perfect.
Michael Tuda
Correct.
Eddie Judge
But the backlash was on social media, like, oh, you're a douchebag. You don't protect your wife. You know, you don't stand up for her. I'm like, right, It's a TV show.
Michael Tuda
Exactly. And it's called the Housewives, not the Housewife Show. Right.
Eddie Judge
And making that point, how involved are you in it?
Michael Tuda
I'm just an accessory, okay? I'm. I'm. I. I'm like a glorified Uber driver. I go with Dolores. Roshi goes, and I have fun, man. That's. That's what I do. I like. I like. I like being there with her and, like, going through it, but I'm an accessory.
Eddie Judge
I actually have a similar story. We went to the Mark and Kelly show, and it was a very revealing moment where she was actually being interviewed by the couple, and I was in the audience, and I'm walking through the audience, sitting and trying to find my seat, and they're, you know, they're very nice, you know, waving at me, saying hello, and they're like, you're not going up there. No, no, no. This is. This is about my wife, not about me. And I said, I'm just an extra. And another lady that was sitting on the seat says, no, you're not, honey. You're a seat filler. Thank you. I was a little bit seat filler that day. I'm okay with that.
Michael Tuda
You're okay with that?
Eddie Judge
I don't want to be a housewife.
Michael Tuda
And I think most of the husbands are okay with that. Yeah, people perceive it differently.
Eddie Judge
Yeah, right. You know, there's one exception, though, in all the entire franchises is the New Jersey guys. You. You know very well they get more involved in the housewife world. Right. But the way I see it is the dynamic is that you guys have such great, good relationships with each other. My understanding is that Joe and Joe and Joe, they've all known each other.
Michael Tuda
They made it nice and easy. Same name.
Eddie Judge
They know they known each other for so long. Right. That there's a relationship, there's a history there, so they could have fun with it. Unlike maybe my franchise where I'm just. I don't know these guys, for Adam, I don't have a lot in common with them. There's very few guys that I actually can have a conversation with. Terry, Debro, Shane and. And even David. You know, there's just very few guys that I can talk to. But the guys that just want to participate on the show and want to be a housewife, I just can't have any respect for them.
Michael Tuda
There's no respect for them guys. There is no. And they. You can see right through them every time.
Eddie Judge
Yeah. So what's the best thing that's come out of the housewife experience for you? Has it helped your relationship? Has it affected your relationship?
Michael Tuda
You know, I don't. I don't think it would help or affect. Because I didn't know her from anything else. So for me, it's just like, this is who she is. She's on a housewife show. And that's all I know. I don't know Dolores, not to be on a housewife show. So I can't say pros or cons. I appreciate the people that, like, tell me how much they love her and how much she's, like, helped them to, like, hear these people come up and say, you know, they're having difficult times in life, and she really helped them through that part. And that's affected me in a really positive way that anything negative doesn't. Really doesn't. Doesn't cloud that. Because I know much good stuff that comes from every individual on these shows that they do for people. Like, they help people all over the place without even speaking them direct.
Eddie Judge
Right.
Michael Tuda
So to me, I see that positivity, and I just don't let the negativity shine on it. It stones.
Eddie Judge
That's a good way to look at it. I like that.
Michael Tuda
Yeah.
Eddie Judge
Yeah. And, you know, one of the things that I understand about being on TV is that you're gonna have the good and bad with it. You're gonna have people that are just. They're gonna say, your eyes aren't blue enough. Your hair is not long enough. It's not brown enough. You're too.
Michael Tuda
I've got it all. It's great.
Eddie Judge
I mean, well, tell me, what's the worst thing that somebody has said about you?
Michael Tuda
I'm not nice.
Eddie Judge
That'S nothing.
Michael Tuda
Yeah, cool. What are you talking about?
Eddie Judge
I love that. I love that. Okay. Do you have any questions for me or anything you want to share about, you know, how do you.
Michael Tuda
How do you. What do you feel about how everything's going in the franchises at the moment? Do you think, like, what Bravo are doing, where they're at? Like, how. What do you. When you look at the whole spectrum of things, like. And you look at it from an aerial view, from being involved so long. I'm only a newbie.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
What do you think? What's going on? Like, what's. What's your feedback?
Eddie Judge
Honestly, I don't know, because from the beginning, Tamara used to say this. This is probably going to end in the next two to three years. And we are 15 years into.
Michael Tuda
You see a lot.
Eddie Judge
I truly don't believe it's ever going to end. We're coming up on 20 years, and it's remarkable that it's lasted this long. But it's also my opinion that it's because of the way they are able to create drama out of nothing. You know, just take the littlest things and make it entertaining. And the most common denominator, the most common comment I hear out there from professionals like lawyers, even doctors or firemen or just regular housewives. It's their guilty pleasure.
Michael Tuda
It is.
Eddie Judge
And I don't understand that. I just don't. Well, a lot of it has to do with. I don't watch the show. You know, I just. It's not my thing. But how this can be converted into entertainment is brilliant. And they've done a great job.
Michael Tuda
They have.
Eddie Judge
Making such a success, successful franchise last this long. I mean, I just read an article recently that the Desperate Housewives of. That's the show I was familiar with.
Michael Tuda
Before I met my wife. That was a great show, by the way.
Eddie Judge
Yeah, I know, I know. When my buddy told me that he was bringing the housewives to film at our house because I had just moved into this house and they were looking for a house to film at, I said, mi casa, su casa. And he says, you know, we're filming the Real Housewives of Orange County. I said, wait a minute. You're gonna bring Eva Longoria to my house? He's like, no, bro, wrong show, wrong show. Never forget that story. But it is remarkable that they've done so well and created such a great entertainment venue for people to watch. And, you know, I look at it as a very toxic experience, but it's been such an awesome experience to navigate through it Right. And the biggest suggestion or advice I would give the guys and it's like, it's a no brainer.
Michael Tuda
What advice could you give me?
Eddie Judge
Yeah, don't get involved. You just don't, you already don't get involved. You know, it's, it's, it's the guys that get involved and you know, and the guys that have not a skeleton in the closet but a cemetery that.
Michael Tuda
Like these things have U haul trucks pulling up on the stage.
Eddie Judge
Did you not know this is gonna come out? You know, hello. So you know, I am not the perfect guy, but I don't have a skeleton like that in my guy is.
Michael Tuda
No guy is the perfect guy.
Eddie Judge
Yeah.
Michael Tuda
But there's a limit.
Eddie Judge
Yeah. So. Yeah, I, I Would you say you enjoyed the, the, the filming life so far?
Michael Tuda
I've loved it. Yeah, I have.
Eddie Judge
Do you get recognized everywhere you go yet?

I do. That's Dolores's boyfriend. I do get a lot of that. Yeah, yeah, that's Paulie. No. Yeah, yeah, no, I do and I, I appreciate it. Something I'd like to add there is that when I hear these, these women come up, we go to these events, we do these, these, these shows with Dolores and these women come up and they go like, you know, I'm in remission, had cancer, you got me through my chemo. Like, I listen to these stories that these people tell this woman and I got to say this, like, I'm like, mothers and daughters come up and they say our relationship is better because we believed in what you said, Dolores, and you got us through this point. And it goes for every housewife. It's like the franchise doesn't understand that while they're, you know, what they're doing is one thing and what people see is something else doing in the background that nobody has a clue about is really what's important. And these women, these mothers, these daughters, these people going through these, these hard times, like depending on these shows because it is their outlet and they connect with these women. So like, and I read these emails that come in, it's like, that's what, what gets me to support Dolores even more. To be like, don't give up, you know, because, because everybody has a high and low in these situations. Just stay true to it because this is the benefit to it. The negative is not strong enough to take down that what these people are going through and what they successful, you know.

You know what I think that is, Paulie? It's the realism. You know, one thing I've discovered about my wife compared to the other housewives and not all other housewives, but most housewives create a fake storyline or a fake Persona. Right? My wife is as real as it can be. She puts it out there. I can see that in Dolores. She's just as real as she can be. And that shows through the camera and the viewers, they really appreciate when you are who you say you are, not who you're trying to fake. And on tv. Right?
