How long did it take you to write your book?

[Lisa Rinna]

It takes a long time. And it took a long time.

Did you have help? Did you do it?

[Lisa Rinna]

I had help. I had a ghostwriter. Are you kidding?

So what is your thoughts on it? Well, you don't even watch Beverly Hills, so you don't even know about Amanda being.

[Lisa Rinna]

I know nothing. I haven't watched since the day I left. Okay.

[Tamara Judge]

So Amanda goes. Amanda's the new housewife.

[Lisa Rinna]

Okay. I've heard of her.

[Tamara Judge]

Which makes you like. It's beyond.

[Lisa Rinna]

I heard she's.

[Tamara Judge]

But she goes. Dorit was talking about having a ghostwriter. And she goes, why? You can't write your own book?

[Lisa Rinna]

No, I can't.

Why, when you don't have a book?

[Lisa Rinna]

I'm not a good writer. No, I'm not. If I was a good writer, I'd write my own book.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

So how does it work with a ghostwriter? So you just give them, like, your thoughts?

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah. I met with three people because I didn't really want to write the book. I wasn't really interested. And then everyone was like, you really should. I think it would be really good for you. Yada, yada, yada. And I was like, well, let me meet with three ghostwriters, and if I connect with one of them, I'll do it. Cause you don't wanna meet with too many. It's too overwhelming. So I met with three and I connected to dibs. And I thought they get my voice, you know, they're a fan. They know my whole career. And I just took.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

And that makes a difference.

[Lisa Rinna]

I took a risk and it really paid off.

[Tamara Judge]

And did you like the first time you got like your first set of book, like they did it?

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, and I had a great time doing it, so I knew that it was gonna be good.

[Tamara Judge]

How long did it take?

[Lisa Rinna]

It takes about six to eight months.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Yeah, that's a long time. I keep telling Teddy she needs to write a book.

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, yeah, you should. I think it'd be great for you. And I think it would also be

[Teddi Mellencamp]

cathartic because you have chronicles Therapeutic.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, why not? Of course. You know, I'm very different than I was when I was writing the book. I have grown and evolved since then. So it's kind of nice now that it's coming out, I can look back on that time and say, wow, I have come a long way just from the time of writing the book.

[Tamara Judge]

And just so we know it's called you better believe I'm gonna talk about it. It's out February 24th.

[Lisa Rinna]

Do you remember when I said that you better believe I'm gonna talk about it?

Well, not yet. It hasn't come out yet. The book has not come out yet.

Well, there's a handful that will not be happy, but they're already not happy with me. So does it really matter? No, but.

It was beautiful. And we lucked out. It's. It started to rain at like 3:30, and so everyone ran in the house. It was really. It was really fun. The girls are great. I mean, blessed beyond, like. I'm so happy that they have turned out to be good human beings.

Where are they right now?

One was in New York, One's here and one's in New York. Delilah's here, and Amelia lives in New York, but she's on a plane most of the time.

How did that all work out, Teddi? I have no idea. All I know is once I left Housewives, I got a call, like a Week later from my publicist. And he said, how would you feel about getting on a plane and going to Paris in four days?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Twist my arm.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

I'm like, twist my arm. Yes. And I went and I sat at the Kenzo show, and I thought it was so fun. And then I said, well, why don't we just stay here and see maybe if some other shows come up? And I just went. Went to, like, four other shows. And that's how it happened.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

I mean, a lot of times Housewives leave and you don't really see them.

[Tamara Judge]

You never see them again.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

You never see them again. But you had a career for so long before Housewives.

[Tamara Judge]

I did, yes.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

And then you just didn't miss a step. You're like, I'm off.

I mean, it was. So Carrie made a speech about Rinna the other day, and he just was. The love that he has for her.

And, like, well, you can tell he's been married forever.

But I think in the world of especially not one housewife being married in Beverly Hills.

Like, he just really is proud of you.

I know. It's so nice to have a mate who is. I mean, we're proud of each other. You know, I'm his biggest cheerleader. You know, I'm out there.

Yeah, it was. It's rough, right?

worse out of the cool girls club. And then that you, like, you hear from no one. It's like crickets. It's like you have these production crews.

And, you know, everybody from Evolution talking to you all the time. Sally's always calling you, and all of a sudden it's like, hello? Hello.

Yeah, it's me. It takes a minute.

And then what I did was I unfollowed the entire cast, and Eddie turned off Bravo. Like, we shut Bravo off from the show.

I literally muted the entire Bravo universe.

[Tamara Judge]

Yes.

I muted it. Not you. But, like, all the. What do you call them? All the sites that are Bravo fan sites.

Yeah. I had to. You have to really separate yourself from it. And that's the hard part, because it's everywhere, and that's why I didn't watch the show. I muted everything so that I could step away. And I remember when Eileen left the show and she did that, she said, it's the only way you can, like, get yourself back. And she's right, I think.

Or just go off.

And I recently saw Eileen and she still kind of sticks by that.

Yeah, she's like, you know, I love. I don't have any anger or resentment towards the show, but, like, it's not like I watch it now or anything like that.

But I think there was always a part of me that thought, like, I wasn't good enough.

I know. And I felt bad about that with you. What you do, though, when you're ending

and, you know, we were a close group of friends, and so I. There was a part of me that thought I wasn't good enough. And then once.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Well, the Internet didn't help you out either.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah, I mean, that's beside the point.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah.

[Tamara Judge]

But, like, once all my medical stuff happened, I realized what's really important.

[Lisa Rinna]

That's right. And that's right.

It's for sure as hell not going and fighting on a housewife show.

Not currently, but there will be.

There will be. Who do you think will be the most upset?

I mean, you know, the ones that

I care about anyways.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, well, the ones that deserve to be called out.

Can you explain to me this? You stated that you and Kathy were able to talk privately, but you feel like the two of you are in a good place now. But then there was something else you said in the book that made it seem like maybe not so well.

[Lisa Rinna]

No, I'm honest in the book with what happened, I felt that it was really important to mend that fence after it happened. And after I left the show, I sent her flowers because I didn't want to have to run into her and all the family members and have bad boogie.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

When did you send her flowers? Like, after the reunion?

[Lisa Rinna]

June. So January I left the show. So six months later, I was going off to do American Horror Stories with Ryan Murphy, and I just thought to myself, I cannot have any bad baggage. I gotta fix it. Which I've done with everybody that I ever had.

[Tamara Judge]

Did they have carnations in it?

[Lisa Rinna]

No, I don't believe so. I think it was really nice. And it was all white.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Why did you ask that?

[Tamara Judge]

Because whenever people put baby's breath or carnations and flowers, they're cheap.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah. No, no, I spent money.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Does she look like she's cheap?

[Lisa Rinna]

No, I spent money.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

She's Lisa fucking Rinna.

[Lisa Rinna]

I spent money. And this is what's interesting. You know, I didn't talk about it, but Kathy had mentioned that I had done that, and she called me right away. But she had. I had put down in my card that I wrote one number off on my phone, so she was calling a different number.

That's so Kathy, isn't it?

[Lisa Rinna]

So, like, wild. And since somehow she gets ahold of someone that reaches me and says, kathy doesn't have your number, but she wants to call you anyway, I get it to her. She calls me right away and we have a. You know, we have a good call for 20 minutes, and we really agreed to, like, bury the hatchet and move on. Cause, you know, I knew Kathy for 30 years. I had a different connection to her. And I thought, I just don't need this. We don't need this.

[Tamara Judge]

I don't need to feel this way. There's no point to feel this way anymore.

[Lisa Rinna]

Exactly. And so I'm very happy that I did that. You know, the book may bring up a little bit, but I don't think so because I did that after I wrote the book or while I was writing the book. So I just basically, you know, the book is really about my side of the story, how I feel, what my opinion is.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Are you the first one to write a book about your experience on the show?

[Lisa Rinna]

God, I don't know. Am I?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

I think you are.

I think Bethany did.

The game that I play. So listen, I ruined all the friendships that I had beforehand. I don't have those anymore. But I have no fake friends from the show. And that's the truth.

Right. And I'm right there listening to you. And then if someone says something that I just think is false, I'm like, no, I don't agree with that or whatever. I never had any fear of, you know, going on Twitter and finding out like, what the audience is saying and trying to go with that. Like, I didn't do any of that.

A lot of housewives do that. I know they'll have a bad season and they go back and they just perform to the comment section of Twitter or Instagram.

I rather slip my wrists than do this.

It's just like, are you getting divorced or you're not getting divorced? I think that's what most people want,

like, but I think it takes people time. I mean.

Oh, no. If I see my soon to be ex out, like humping everybody. Soon to be ex. No, but I'm just saying, like, she sees Mauricio out with all these young girls and legs wrapped around his waist, I think that'd be enough for me to say, yeah, bye, bye.

Same with me.

Yeah, I wouldn't be able to handle that.

But everybody has their own, you know, way.

I mean, I still live pretty much live in the same house with my ex and I see him every day.

Yeah.

We did. Well, sometimes thou protest too much.

I think that's kind of where that

it's always the ones that are constantly posting lovey dovey pictures all over social media and saying how great the relationship is. I just go, yeah, right, yeah, talk to me in five years.

Most, as Vicki would say, yeah, most of the people that we know that did that are now divorced.

[Tamara Judge]

Would you say there was ever a tough part in your relationship because of the show?

[Lisa Rinna]

No, no, never does.

[Tamara Judge]

How much does Harry actually ask you about the show?

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, he was so involved. He was so Great. Because, you know, he was studying to be a psychologist when he was in college. So he has a real kind of vast knowledge of people's psychosis and such. So he was fascinated by the whole thing and watched every show with me and would help me through it. And he was really quite amazing, I have to say. I don't think I could have done it without him.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

He didn't love being on the camera, though, right?

[Lisa Rinna]

No. You know, I made a deal with Bravo out of the gate because, you know, I never talked about it, but I wasn't going to let this show ruin his acting career.

[Amanda Knox]

Right.

[Lisa Rinna]

I mean, he was an actor. He had his own career. Right. And, you know, at the time I talked to Sherry Levine, I had to call. I had to call the bigwig and say, listen, Sherry, here's the deal. I have to protect my husband. I'm happy to give him to you three times a year.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

No big parties, little spurts. And they. They agreed to that.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

And that's how it works.

And it. And it was enough. Cuz you talked about him enough. We always felt like we knew Harry Hamlin. Yeah.

Well, I didn't really want to. I was.

Was that right after your mom? No, that was.

No, no, no. That was in the first. Second year. Oh, second year when I was on. It was really driven by lvp. And that's why you're still on the web. Yeah, yeah, it was, it was driven by her.

And you know, Teddy and I were real good soldiers and I was a very good soldier at that point and I would do what needed to be done. I take responsibility for it because I did it, but I wouldn't have done it. I wouldn't have come up with it on my own.

Now we've talked about it before because when I got myself into Puppygate once I realized I got myself in too deep. I went to Rinna and I was like, what do I do?

I did. And then this is when I knew I had been had. She looked at me and said, teddy, please don't talk about this.

I've had that happen to me.

And that was when I was like, I cannot believe I just fell for like. She went so over the top to, like, shocked at, like, my behavior that I would even speak.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

That's the type of housewife I cannot tolerate. I've had that happen to me before. Go bring this up. Bring this up. And then when I bring it up, they're like, oh, my God. Why would you say that?

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, it's something.

And I'm like, you just use me.

It's pretty sick. Shit.

So I was. I was able to really talk to Teddi about it because I'd been through it, and I was like, girl, this is what's happening to you. And you got to stop now.

Was that your last season on the show?

[Tamara Judge]

No, next season I was pregnant, which might as well.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

No one ever gets pregnant on the shows.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah, yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

Or in grief after you've lost a. Grief is a parent.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

I was sad last year and I got my fucking ass handed.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, you shouldn't be on the show. You should take a break.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah. And what would you say was your best year and what would you say was your worst year?

[Lisa Rinna]

There was a year that I had basically said, I'm going to have fun this year. Don't come to me. Don't make me do anything. And they were like, you know what? We're gonna give her a break. Because she literally had Amsterdam and all this other stuff. So that was my most fun year, was that I also liked the year, the Provence year. That was fun.

[Tamara Judge]

We had so much fun that Provence year.

[Lisa Rinna]

That was the greatest year.

[Tamara Judge]

Were you making fun of me and Kyle for coming at Erica for nothing?

[Lisa Rinna]

Hilarious.

[Tamara Judge]

Like, we were hammered and we're like, listen, Erica, we think you don't like us that much. Like, we had nothing to say.

[Lisa Rinna]

Funny. Tequila, Teddy.

[Tamara Judge]

Like, we had not one thing to Erica. We think you don't like us because you wear your sunglasses at breakfast.

[Lisa Rinna]

And we were like, oh, my God, you guys. I know. We have to make a show. That year was fun. My worst year was my last year.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Yeah.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

It just was. I should not have done that year. I should have taken a break, come back the next year.

[Tamara Judge]

Was there a moment where you could have taken a break? Like, were you a negotiate, like.

[Lisa Rinna]

No, I was fully in contract and Mexico trip happened three days after my mom died. Yeah, like, that was insane. Somebody should have said, you know what? Take a. Take a week, take two weeks.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

And you probably felt obligated to go, right?

[Lisa Rinna]

Of course. I'm a. I'm a worker bee. I was like, I have a contract. And I knew that my mom would have said to me or would say to me, you go and you go to work, you do this. And so I had that in my head. But in hindsight, you weren't ready. You were grieving. Oh, God, I was in shock. I was great. Like, I was so.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

But don't you feel like when you're in that place, in that position, you get the worst freaking edit ever?

[Lisa Rinna]

That's what I got.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Yeah, it's like when you are.

[Lisa Rinna]

I became low, villain, lowest. Yeah, they're like.

[Tamara Judge]

Because when you're sad, sometimes you can be mean.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Don't judge me when I'm sad. Yeah, don't not judge me.

[Tamara Judge]

Sometimes when I'm sad, I can say really mean things that I don't mean.

[Lisa Rinna]

And when you're in grief, you are angry. That's the first emotion that comes out. And I will say that you know that when you're at your lowest, that is when they come. The sharks come. And they had been waiting. I mean, I had a good seven year run and those sharks were waiting. And the minute I went down and I was vulnerable, they hit and there was blood in the water and they fucking devoured me. And you know what? That's what happened.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

And when the fans jump on top of all that and then the death threats and all the things and then you're like, I'm out.

[Lisa Rinna]

And there you go. That is the trajectory of what happened right there. And you're like, life's too short.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

I saw it, I've lived it.

[Lisa Rinna]

I know. And you go, life's too short. I'm out. Yeah, I'm out.

[Tamara Judge]

Is there days you miss it?

[Lisa Rinna]

Never. I've not ever missed it because I still see you guys, the people I love, I see and talk to. So I have never missed the show. Not once. Not once. Because I mean, I worked so much beforehand. It's not like I go, oh my God. That was the be all and end all shows. Every show that ends. I always miss the people, but I don't miss the show necessarily.

[Tamara Judge]

But you've also been busy since.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, I have.

[Tamara Judge]

And that's something we've talked about before. A lot of people. You end the show and that kind of your life ends. Other than like.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

But somehow some people weren't somebody before. Housewives. Right, right.

[Tamara Judge]

But like Rina has developed herself into like five different people since.

[Lisa Rinna]

Thank God. You know, thank God. Because you don't know how it's going to go. You know, you're a housewife, you were there for eight years, but you are an Actor. But you don't know if anyone's gonna take you seriously. So it's quite a crapshoot. And you just have to have faith. Thank God I didn't chicken out.

[Tamara Judge]

Was there a second where you thought, I'm gonna go back?

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, of course. You have moments of like, what am I gonna do? I don't have a paycheck. Oh, my God. And, you know, I almost did it at the reunion. I almost said while I was sitting there, you know what, guys? Thank you so much. I'm gonna go. But I chickened out to do that.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

I thought about it.

[Lisa Rinna]

I was ready. So you thought about that? Yeah, I was like, it's a big

[Teddi Mellencamp]

step like that when you do it there. That's the end.

[Lisa Rinna]

You do it. You're done.

There's no second guessing. It's done.

But you've thought of it, too.

Well, I've had some bad years, and sometimes, like, the emotional toll it takes on you.

I know.

So, yeah. And with social media, it's brutal.

So much worse.

I mean, no offense, but both of you like to fight back a little bit on social media.

You think I don't so much anymore.

But you did. There was a time where you did.

During that time, I was a fucking mess. That's how I was acting out. I acted out online. Like, how stupid is that? But that's what I did.

You live and learn, though.

But, yeah, I have learned. But listen, if I need to, it's in my back pocket. Like with Colton. I just took my gun out and did one shot.

It felt so good.

I was like, I still have it.

I think I do. Yeah. I think I do. I don't remember, but I think I do. Yeah.

Because before Rinna did anything, she was like, a Jazzerciser.

I've seen the videos.

I taught aerobics at Richard Simmons. Do you know this? Yes, I talk about that. Yeah. Oh, yeah.

I still remember. I think it was maybe 2000, before my daughter was born. Maybe 2000. Two or three. You had a store, Belgrade. I bought. I was so obsessed with you that you had a reality show at that time, too, right?

Harry loves Lisa for like, I bought a Von Dutch. Oh, yeah. You didn't know this?

[Tamara Judge]

Yes. No.

Oh, you'll read the book and know about it. Yeah. For like, six episodes on TV land. Yes. Yeah, exactly. I bought.

I bought a Von Dutch hat from your store. I was. Yes.

Von Dutch was so hot at that time.

Do you still have it?

I don't have it, but I do have a new one.

Yeah, there was a whole thing with your lips. Didn't you do surgery on your lips?

Did you remove it? I had the silicone removed, and they showed it on the show. Like, that show is a disaster.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

That was probably, like, one of the first reality shows I really watched. Really? Yeah.

You're like one of five people who watched it.

Would you do a reality show with your family now?

[Lisa Rinna]

I don't think so. I just don't. You know, people have come to us. A lot of people have come to us. And the girls are too busy, first of all. And I just don't have a desire to do reality.

Would you do any other reality show?

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, probably.

Competition show again?

[Lisa Rinna]

I mean, probably.

Would you do special forces?

No, that I would not do.

Those boys are running up the hill. You've got Colton, who's a football player. You've got the Olympic athletes. You got all the boys. And here's me, Dorinda, and Candace. Like, it's ridiculous.

I remember four days with and being so sick. I thought I was gonna be on a ventilator. And they're like, okay, if you don't come back tomorrow, we're gonna have to send you home. So I'm like, I can do this. Remember laying on the bottom of the shower and going, I can do this. I can do this. Then I had to run.

[Lisa Rinna]

No, I had to run. No, I couldn't get sick. I could not. I got sick the day I was banished. I got sick as a dog because Steven was sick in the castle, and I thought, yeah, Stephen was sick.

[Tamara Judge]

Do we love Stephen?

[Nancy Glass]

Oh, we love him.

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, we love him because I loved

[Tamara Judge]

him on we love him.

But he did get sick. And so my last night, I started to get sick, and then I was so sick for, like, a week. Oh, my God.
