Two teas in a.

Pod with Teddi Mellencamp and Tamara Jud.
Podcast Host 1
Hi guys. Welcome to another episode of the Twat Seat. Today we have on Macy Neely. She burst into the center of pop culture when Hulu's the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives took the world by storm. She has a memoir out now. It's called told you so. It's in bookstores now, so you can get it. Because what we're seeing on Hulu is barely scratching the surface. By the way, secret lives of Mormon Wives is streaming on Hulu and season.
Podcast Host 2
Three is about to come out.
Podcast Host 1
Right?
Podcast Host 2
Don't they come out pretty soon?
Podcast Host 1
I think so.
Podcast Host 2
I remember when we interviewed them earlier in the year and it was season two, they were already filming season three. Like they turn it around really quick.
Podcast Host 1
It's a quick turnaround, that's for sure.
Podcast Host 2
Now this part, she has gone through so much in her young life.
Podcast Host 1
I know. And we're about to hear all about.
Podcast Host 2
Enough to write a book.
Podcast Host 1
Enough to write a book. But Secret Lives of Mormon wives starts airing November 13th. Wow. Yeah.
Macy Neely
That's right around the corner.
Podcast Host 2
I can't wait. Are we going to recap it again?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, we've got to.
Macy Neely
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
So good.
Macy Neely
Hello.
Podcast Host 1
Hi.
Macy Neely
Hi. How are you guys? Hi.
Podcast Host 2
See, it's been a while since we talked.
Macy Neely
No, it's been a minute. But it feels like yesterday at the same time.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
But congratulations on your new book.
Macy Neely
Oh, thank you. I'm so excited.
Podcast Host 1
And congratulations on your baby.
Macy Neely
Thank you. I know. I had my husband take her out today. Cause I'm like, she's a little too crazy. We gotta, we gotta.
Podcast Host 2
How old is she? Now, when we saw you last, you were pregnant.
Macy Neely
Yes, she's two months. So she's like. She's little. She's little, but, like, I feel like she's such a big girl now.
Podcast Host 2
Remind me, didn't you tell me when I met you last that your mom lives in Coto?
Macy Neely
Yes.
Podcast Host 2
You gotta hook us up.
Macy Neely
I know. I, like, I lived there my whole. My whole life. Like, I grew up there. Like, I think we moved there when I was 7. And then my parents are still there.
Podcast Host 1
Oh, my gosh.
Macy Neely
Yeah, it's like, so crazy. So I was actually just there for, like.
Podcast Host 2
Would she be good for Housewives?
Macy Neely
It's hard to say because I feel like my mom. I think, at least in the beginning, she'd probably be a little stiff on camera just because I. I don't know, I think the perception would maybe scare her, like, not looking at, like, looking a certain way on tv. But I think, like, after a while, she'd be good. She'd probably be like me, where she's kind of like, more chill. Like, she played. Not, like, directly in drama, but, like, I thought she'd be pretty good, though. I don't know.
Podcast Host 1
She'd be a good narrator.
Macy Neely
Yeah, she'd be like the narrator for sure. My mom, like, loves telling stories. That lady can tell you a story about any topics. I think she would be a good narrator.
Podcast Host 2
Put her together with my husband. They would just talk for hours.
Macy Neely
No, it's not true.
Podcast Host 2
They're casting now, so she's interested. Let me know.
Macy Neely
Oh, my gosh. I'll tell her. Because at first when I brought her, brought it up to her after we did the podcast, she was like, yeah, I'd be interested. But I'm like, we'll see. I'll see. I should have her at least try out. I think it'd be funny.
Podcast Host 2
Well, I'll send you my phone number and she can give me a call.
Macy Neely
Yeah, no, yes. And it to me, I'll tell her to at least audition for it. I think it'd be fun.
Podcast Host 2
Plus, I'd love to meet her. I wonder if we have any mutual friends. I have so many friends that live in Cota.
Macy Neely
Well, yeah, probably just be like in Koda. Like, I don't know if you go to the country club at all, but.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, I used to. I used to live there.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Macy Neely
So it's like, perfect.
Podcast Host 2
What's your mom's name?
Macy Neely
Cindy.
Podcast Host 2
Cindy.
Podcast Host 1
Cindy.
Macy Neely
Yes.
Podcast Host 2
Okay.
Podcast Host 1
Before we get into anything, and of course we're going to talk about your book, because I Mean, it's heartbreaking, but also incredible all that you've gone through. Let's talk a little bit about Dancing with the Stars. To seeing Whitney and Jen make you want to go on next season.
Macy Neely
You guys. I would embarrass myself. So I feel like. No, like, I feel like watching them even more so made me not really want to do it just because I'm like, they're so good that I feel like I'd go on and I'd be like, embarrassing. So that's how I feel. Like, I wouldn't. I feel like if I got the opportunity, I wouldn't be like, absolutely not. Like, I would definitely consider and try it, but I would be, like, so anxious and, like, so scared because I. I'm not a dancer. Like, I'm not good at that at all.
Podcast Host 2
Now, you were there at Dancing with the Stars for opening night. I went there to support a friend last season. Were you shocked when you saw how small?
Podcast Host 1
Yes.
Macy Neely
I was like, wait. Like, I thought, like, when you see it on tv, it looks so much bigger. And like, you get there and you're like, wait, it's like small. And like, the songs were shorter than I thought. So I was like, at least there's that. Like, they don't have to do like a full three minute thing.
Podcast Host 2
It's like one minute, right?
Macy Neely
One minute, yeah.
Podcast Host 2
And you probably sat right in the front by those things that explode confetti out. They blow your eardrums out.
Macy Neely
Yes. God. He kept telling. The guy would tell us, he's like, hey, this is gonna go off. So. But I always forget every time I go off. And I was like, yeah.
Podcast Host 2
And then just the stuff that goes on in between people dancing. Like, it's like sets come and things are. People are the flying from the ceiling and it's.
Macy Neely
It's just a great fun to watch. Like, when I went in person, I was like, wait, I love this. Like, this is so fun. So I don't know, I. I thought it was a great time. I feel like it made me more nervous for them. Like, I felt so anxious before they started. I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, I feel like I was living it with them, but I couldn't imagine being.
Podcast Host 2
Who'd you vote for?
Macy Neely
I voted for both of them. You guys know me. I'm the writer. So I think I can't, like, take a side. I mean, I love both of them. Like, me and Winnie have had our differences, but we're like. I feel like we're in a good place and I love Jen, so I feel like I don't think I could ever choose, like, one or the other because they're also both so good. So it's like, okay, I'm going five. Five. We're going to split.
Podcast Host 1
And some people are saying it's unfair that Whitney is doing it because she has such a strong background in dancing. What are your thoughts on that?
Macy Neely
I mean, I wouldn't say it's unfair because I don't think she was, like, a professional dancer, but she did, like, I guess she does have a good advantage because she did dance for her major. So, like, I get that. And I think it's also a reason why I don't think I'd want to go on, because I feel like a lot of people that go on the show have a dance experience.
Podcast Host 2
Yes, I agree.
Macy Neely
So I feel like they can't, like, single Whitney out, because I know. Was it Gleb's partner? I forgot what her name is.
Podcast Host 2
The.
Macy Neely
I heard that she was a professional ballroom dancer, but then got hurt. But I'm like, that's still. That'd be like me going and playing tennis with people have never played before. I'd kick their butts, you know?
Podcast Host 2
But don't you feel. I agree with that. But don't you feel there's, like, a level of popularity that goes into, oh, 100% who wins, too?
Macy Neely
I think it's 50% dance. Or actually, I would say it's like 40% dance, maybe. And then 60% popularity. Obviously, it could be more because I know that she was in the bottom three. Right. But she's, like, really good.
Podcast Host 2
So it's like, she's good, but she's not very well liked.
Macy Neely
Yes. That's the problem. Yes.
Podcast Host 2
That's why I'm like. I'd be kicked off so quick.
Sponsor Voice
No.
Macy Neely
Oh, my gosh. You'd have all your Orange county voters coming through. All the housewife voters. Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Especially my cast. I'd be lucky if one showed up.
Macy Neely
Just have. I'm dead. They wouldn't come support.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, you never know.
Podcast Host 1
I don't think it would be, like, a full cast support. I would like you guys did.
Macy Neely
Yeah. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
We can't believe that you guys start airing already, like, November 13th.
Macy Neely
I know. For season three, I feel like it just. It's just, like, flown by. I don't know. Like, I think I was just with you guys in the studio, so I'm like, I just. And it's like, already new season's coming out. It's bizarre.
Podcast Host 2
Well, you guys are a huge head. And I've never seen a reality show like this just take off. Now you have some of the girls in Dance from the Stars. You have Taylor being the new bachelorette.
Podcast Host 1
How do you think Dakota feels about that?
Macy Neely
Oh, he's definitely not happy about it, that's for sure. I mean, I think he's probably gotten over it now, but I don't think he knew for sure when it was announced that she was the bachelor Bachelorette. Like, I know, like, there was rumblings and like, the girls knew, but I don't think he knew for sure until it came out on Call Her Daddy.
Podcast Host 2
I was really hoping that they can get back together for the. Especially for the sake of her.
Macy Neely
I don't know. I don't. You want here?
Podcast Host 2
No, I don't. I don't.
Macy Neely
Maybe.
Podcast Host 2
I don't know. Everything he's done to her. Maybe that's what it is.
Macy Neely
I mean, in regardless of him, like, I've had my differences. Like, I obviously, like, haven't liked him. But in general, to like them two together, regardless of what he's done, it's just toxic. So even if, like, he did change and he was the best ever, it's still never going to work between the two of them. It's just them together is horrible bad news.
Podcast Host 2
Like, yeah, we would see him on the show and he would cry in his confessionals and things like that. So I think I just had a little bit of a soft spot for him. Like, oh, he's changing.
Podcast Host 1
Narcissists can do that.
Macy Neely
They can. And it's fine. Because I even feel that sometimes with him where, like, I, like, will have strongly, like, I'll strongly dislike him. But then, like, in person, sometimes I'm like, ah, like, he is like a likable person. Like, he. He has a good side to him. He's not like, I wouldn't say he's like a bad person. Like, there's times where I felt that way, but I don't think he's a bad person to his core. He just makes bad decisions.
Podcast Host 2
Is he a good dad?
Macy Neely
I think so. I mean, I don't know. I think in the past I questioned it. But, like, I. I think he tries his best. No, I don't know. Like, I have no idea. I don't. I've never really seen him interact as a dad. Like, I think whenever they film, like, ever hasn't been around. Like, I haven't seen him with ever, you know, so I wouldn't know. But I assume he is like, Jordan Said he's a great dad. I don't know. I think so.
Podcast Host 1
We were left on a big cliffhanger last season between Jesse and Marciano.
Macy Neely
Oh, yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Are we gonna get into that a little bit?
Macy Neely
You're gonna get into that a lot in this next season. I feel. I feel like we're gonna see a lot. Like, I think people are gonna be surprised with what they see. And then also, I just feel so I. I actually got to see this season ahead of time. Usually, we never get to see it, but we did get to see it this time. And I will say it's probably my first favorite season so far. And I know we probably say that every year, but I do feel like this time, too, they kept, like, the fun little moments in there that are usually cut out for drama. Like, I thought they kept some of the bloopers and some of the funny moments that usually don't make the edit. So I did like that because it kind of shows the personality, and it shows kind of, like, how we are, because I feel like after last season, we got a lot of comments. Like, they're like, they're mean girls and blah, blah. I'm like, well, you guys miss, like, the fun moments and the moments that we're just, like, laughing and, like, screwing around, and, like, that gets cut a lot. So I feel like they did leave a good amount of those this season. So I felt like it was, like, funny. Like, I had moments that I was, like, dying laughing in it. And, like, I feel like normally I don't. So I. I don't know.
Podcast Host 2
How do you deal with you talking about mean comments and stuff like that, and how do you deal with that on social media? Has it been easy for you or hard?
Macy Neely
I mean, it's easy for me. So far, I don't feel like I get a lot of hate compared to some of the other girls. But I also, like. Like, it's because I am not very controversial. Like, I'm just kind of doing my own thing. I feel like I'm very neutral, and it's not because I'm, like, playing a role. That's just kind of how I am in life. Like, I just. Like, I'm a neutral person. I can see both sides of the equation. And I. I don't know. And I. I'm very, like, empathetic towards people, and, like, I can put myself in anyone's shoes, and I feel like. So for me, I don't get a ton of hate, but I also say, like, we definitely get grouped in as a Whole sometimes, like, these are all mean girls or this and that. And I'm like, well, you don't know. You're seeing, like, 20% of, like, what we film, you know, because we film so much. And they only see how.
Podcast Host 2
People don't understand that.
Macy Neely
No, they don't. And I'm like, you're seeing just, like, certain moments of our lives. Like, you're seeing probably the lowest moments and sometimes the highest, and you're not seeing, like, the in between. So it doesn't really affect me, though. I know it affects other people, but I will say I don't get as much hate as other girls, so I can't really. You're lucky, you know, speak to it. I do have thick skin, though. Like, I feel like I'm used to being judged and things like that. Like, my whole life growing up being Mormon and having other Mormons who thought I wasn't, like, Mormon enough, you know, say comments. And so I feel like I'm used to it, so I don't really care. I'm like, you don't know me, so you. You can't really judge me, you know, and you're not perfect, so you can't judge, you know? Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
But they do. Now remind me, is. Is Demi. Is she on this new season coming up?
Macy Neely
She is, but not, like, the whole time. I can't even, like, remember exactly.
Podcast Host 1
Are you more team Jesse or to me, team Jesse?
Macy Neely
But, like, I wouldn't say, like, I'm on a team, but I'm closer with Jesse. And I feel like what has happened, which you'll see more of this season, like. Like, I wasn't. Like, I want to take this side, but it just kind of naturally happened based on, like, what was happening and stuff. And, like, also because what we were hearing wasn't the qualities or characteristics of someone I want to be close friends with. I have no personal issues with Demi. I have no beef. Like, we have a fine relationship, but, like, just from observing certain things, I'm like, okay, like, still love her as a person, As a friend. Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
But not taken.
Macy Neely
Yep. I'm not going to be like, buddy, buddy based on what I've seen, you know, Unless if things drastically change and we decide, I don't know, whatever. I never say never because I am someone who will forgive anything. And again, she hasn't done anything to me, so I have nothing to forgive. But just taking a mental note, I guess. Yeah. It's a complicated situation. I feel like I don't even know exactly how I feel about it. Because I do genuinely like like her and as a person and we've had like so many good memories together. So it's hard to say.
Podcast Host 1
Here's the thing about being a great gift giver. When you find something truly perfect for everyone on your list, you almost don't want to give it away.
Podcast Host 2
That's what happened with my Quint's order. Everything's so soft and well made. I'm seriously tempted to keep all of it for myself.
Podcast Host 1
Quince pretty much has your whole list covered. Mongolian cashmere sweaters for $50 when you'd normally pay $200 or more, the kind you'll wear on repeat.
Podcast Host 2
Then there's the denim that goes with everything. Silk tops and skirts for when you need to look put together. Cashmere beanies and scarves and down jackets that actually keep you warm.

Podcast Host 1
You had an incredible, like, moving storyline last season, which I think is what led to your book. Can you tell us a little bit more about how you started writing it?
Macy Neely
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
The stories behind it, what our viewers would be tuning into.
Macy Neely
Yeah, no, for sure. So like, I always tell people I feel like the story's been writing itself for the last 10 years because I had a blog that I kind of wrote and that's how I started social media and kind of talking about my life story. And then I also wrote in a diary for like all my trauma stuff that I went through. Like, I wrote it all down and then I've written like, like bits and pieces over the last 10 years, but never like put it in a book. And then I got like the opportunity, I got a book deal because my manager knew it was like one of my life goals and stuff and so she got me with an agent and I got a book deal pretty quickly after season one. And so I was like, okay, this is the time. And so like, I kind of pieced everything together that I'd already written and just like added new stories and a lot more details. And so it was definitely a really hard process. But like, luckily, like, I had kind of documented like everything that was kind of going on so that it wasn't.
Podcast Host 2
That helps, I'm sure.
Macy Neely
Oh, 100%. Because over time too, like, you can forget things. Like, and I had notes that I wrote for therapy and things like that that I had saved. So I had like so much information that made it a lot easier for the writing process. Like, I mean, like, it still wasn't easy. And then I also added stories and that were fun and like light hearted and like silly and stuff that people like wouldn't know about me or that like they wouldn't see in the show. Like, there is so much more in this book than like the three minutes that you saw on the show for season two.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Can give us a little bit more of a tease and just like the backstory of what you showed on the show.
Macy Neely
And then. Yeah, yeah. So I will say for the show too, for like that storyline, I filmed a lot of that, some of it season one, but then it was all cut out of season one. Right. So then we kind of picked it back up for season two because I still was going through this process of like, I've never been to the crash site or my baby daddy died. And so, like, that was something that, like, we wanted to revisit because just, like, I had my book deal, so, like, okay, this is probably great to kind of open that chapter starting to write, and, like, I need to kind of heal to write for this book. So that's kind of, like, the idea behind it. It was very difficult to do it because it's kind of like something that you always know you needed to do. You just didn't want to do it because you knew it was going to be hard. Like, that's how it was going to the crash site. Like, I knew I needed to do it. I just kept, like, pushing it off. So I feel like even doing it, I didn't do it for the show. I did it for myself. But I feel like they gave me an extra push to do that, and I was very grateful that I did because it healed part of me inside to an extent. But there was so much more to that story of, like, what I dealt with, like, with grief and, you know, like, a backside of, like, meeting Hudson's dad and, like, him passing away and how I was, like, kind of suicidal during my pregnancy and, like, how my mom helped pick up those pieces and how I went back to byu, you know, even though I had a kid. And, like, what it was like doing that, especially in, like, a religious culture. So I talk a lot about that. And then a big piece that you don't see in the show, too, is I talk about my relationship before I met my son's father and, like, the abuse that I went through. And we did film a little bit of that for the show that also got cut. So you get to see, like, what I went through before I met Hudson's dad. And I feel like it all kind of, like, my story kind of all makes sense once the pieces are put together. And I feel like it even makes more sense as to why I'm so neutral on the show or offense writers, because you see how much I've been through and how I hate, like, I hate having beef with people. I always like to leave things on a good note because I know how fragile life is and how quickly, like, someone I love was taken from me, and I would never want to experience that again. And if I did, I wouldn't want to have regrets. And I did have regrets, like, when my son's father passed away because of, like, certain things that I said, you.
Podcast Host 2
Know, why do you think they cut it from the first season? Do you think it was just too deep? They wanted to get the viewers to get to know you a little bit better before they learned all this stuff.
Macy Neely
Yes, I do. I feel like a lot of storylines were cut unless they were Taylor. And I said that because, like, she is obviously, like, kind of the star, the focal point of the show. And so I feel like they wanted to follow, like, the current life drama instead of, like, things that maybe we've gone through the past that still affect us now. And I do feel like they dived into that a little bit more Season two. But even then, I did film, like, five scenes for my storyline, and they were all pretty much cut down to those two that you see of me talking to the mom, you know, Eric's mom, which is my son's father, his mom. And then it shows me, like, going to the crash site. But I did film, like, multiple other scenes that were all cut. I don't know why. I have no idea. Part of me is fine that they were. Because you're going to get all that in the book, right? You're going to get so much more detail and things that you. You didn't even. What you would have seen is nowhere near what is in the book, you know, so, yeah, I didn't get the whole thing cut.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah. Did the mom Talk Girls support your journey in writing this book?
Macy Neely
Oh, yeah, for sure. I think, like, I'm someone who kind of goes through things on my own and behind the scenes. I don't like to. I don't feel, like, burden people with, like, what I'm going through. Like, they obviously were very supportive, but I feel like when I was struggling here and there, I didn't tell anyone, like, writing it and stuff. Like, I mean, I think Michaela, certain days I'm like, oh, yeah, I'm, like, a little depressed, you know, writing this book. And, like, then also Cookies would show up at my door because she's, like, the most, like, supportive person. Like, she's, like, truly, like, the best. I love her so much. Like, she's just so supportive of, like, everything. And that's kind of how we are together. So, like, she's obviously been very helpful on my journey because she's probably the only person I would be like, oh, yeah. I'm, like, kind of sad today because I feel like sometimes it's hard to be, like, vulnerable in that sense and tell a friend, you know, like, hey, yeah, I'm, like, kind of hurting right now. And I think me and her, as we've gotten even closer over the years, have gotten better at that together. Like, she'll be like, yeah, this and that or like postpartum. I try to check in a lot with her too, but. Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
You guys are pregnant at the same time, right? And you gave birth around the same time? How many weeks or months?
Macy Neely
Six days apart. Yeah. Yeah. Her baby is six days older than mine. So they're like destined to be best.
Podcast Host 2
You're gonna be best friends. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
What are their names?
Macy Neely
Her baby's name is Lottie and my baby's name is Charlie. So I guess they're both nicknames for Charlotte. And we didn't even know that until like the Internet started going crazy. Like they both named their baby Charlotte. And I was like, what? We did. Like, I was like so confused. So I didn't even know that until we, you know, heard it online. So now we kind of play into it and like we both named our baby Charlotte and we fought over the name. Like we'll like joke around, but yeah, we both didn't even know that it was a nickname for Charlotte until I didn't. Yeah, I guess so.

So how has the show changed your life?
Macy Neely
Oh, my gosh. It's. It's funny because I feel like it's still the same as far as, like, I still feel like, me. Like, nothing feels different to me, but, like, obviously financial, financially, it's been more beneficial. Like, you know, like, this book deal I think would have happened no matter what, but I think I got it, like, in the door with, like, the best people because the show and, like, my story, I have more awareness. Right. So that for sure. And then I think just like, like. Yeah, no, it's crazy that, like, people, like, know who we are. I guess that's like, the only thing that's really different is, like, going out places and people wanting pictures. And, I mean, that would happen a little bit beforehand because we were doing, like, the influencer thing and we all had, like, followers and stuff like that. But, like, obviously it's, like, way more heightened now. Yeah. So, like, that's cool. But, like, sometimes it's hard because I like, I love just like, you know, rope to Target and my sweats and looking like, a little homeless, you know?
Podcast Host 2
And sometimes now, like, you're speaking my and Teddy's language.
Macy Neely
Yeah. And, like, and I love that.
Podcast Host 2
And I think we're homeless right now.
Macy Neely
No, exactly. Like, I have to look at. I have to go do a photo shoot after this. That's why I'm, like, so glammed up. But, yeah, so that's the only thing. It's a little bit different that it's not. Like, I don't like it, but, like, I do. Sometimes I feel like we get watched a little bit. And so, like, sometimes that's hard. Like, you know, going to a dinner and you can see people, like, watching you, and you're like, okay, like, are.
Podcast Host 2
You taking your picture?
Macy Neely
Yeah, they're taking your pictures, though. Like, they're recording you without, like, saying hi. And I'm like, wait. Like, I don't like that. Like, that's the only thing I do I don't love. Or, like, when I'm with my family and stuff. And then I'm like, if my kids are going feral and they're, like, taking videos, like, what are you doing with those?
Podcast Host 2
That's, like, kind of where it gets annoying sometimes.
Macy Neely
Yeah, well, I'm just like. I just more so worry about the intention behind it. Or, like, are you doing that to talk on me? Or are you like. Or are you just, like, are you excited?
Podcast Host 2
Send it to a blogger.
Macy Neely
Yeah. That's the only thing I worry about. I'm like, if you have good intentions, no problem, no issue. Come ask me for a picture. But, like, I think when people are secretive about it, like, we know, like, when you're filming and stuff. Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
You can feel it.
Macy Neely
Sometimes you question their intentions. Like, are you trying to be, like, malicious? Are you, like, genuinely, like, excited? I don't know. That's the only thing that. Where sometimes you have to question yourself or you have to worry about, like, being watched when you're, like, maybe in a vulnerable position, you know, like. Or even going to, like, the OB gyn. When I was first pregnant, I'm like, are people gonna see me? And I'm like, put it online. Because I want to announce my pregnancy, like, on my own time, in my own way. So I think, yeah, that's what you just have to get used to is, like, certain moments being exposed maybe. Maybe before you're ready or before you want to talk about them. And that's something that I guess I'm kind of getting used to as well.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
And then how has the LDS community responded to your book? And now going into another season, I.
Macy Neely
Mean, I haven't heard anything about the book, at least, I guess.
Podcast Host 2
What about the show?
Macy Neely
The show? I haven't heard anything new. Like, in the past. Last year, before it came out and the trailer came out, that, you know, everyone was freaking out. Like, these aren't real Mormons, and this is not what Mormons are. And, like, people are freaking out. Right. And, like, that was a little hard because I'm like, this is my own community, like, kind of attacking me. And I'm like, I am a member, and, like, I teach children about Jesus in our church. This is kind of weird for me. And it made me question myself, too. I'm like, am I doing something wrong? Like, is this bad? Like, I feel like I did question myself, and that was kind of hard. And then it came out and, like, people realized it's not all about, like, swinging and drinking. And so, like, people were like, chill. But I feel like I haven't heard a ton, and if I do, I just don't care. I'm like, whatever. Like, you can think what you want, but, like, I don't know, you get.
Podcast Host 2
Immune to it after a while.
Macy Neely
Yeah. Like, I think I'm just used to it. I did worry in the beginning because I just. I mean, I hadn't seen the show when it came out either. It's like, I don't know how it's edited. I'm like, what if it does make it look like we're, like, just bashing the church? Because, like, that's not what I want to do. Like, it could be any religion. And I'm not going to bash it because I just think that's, like, disrespectful. So I was a little worried, and then it came out and I was like, oh, that's fine. You know?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, that makes sense.
Macy Neely
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
What else can you tease in regards to the book so that we can get everybody buying it it?
Macy Neely
I mean, I do tell, like, a little bit behind the scenes of Mom Talk, which, like, I feel like we don't really talk about the show and kind of like, how I got into Mom Talk because I think a lot of people. This is, like, one thing that's funny that kind of, like, will kind of bug a lot of us is that all people online will be like, you guys don't even have a career without Taylor. And, like, you'd be nothing without her. And I'm like, I was making money doing social media full time before I met Taylor. Like, we were friends on social media. And Michaela Same. And I can't speak for everyone, but there's a lot of girls who already had their own careers on social media before they were part of Mom Talk. So, like, I had 1.2 million followers before I even went into Mom Talk. But a lot of people don't know that because they see us all together and they're like, oh, my gosh, you won't even have followers without her. I'm like, no, I very much, like, grew this on my own. So I think it's kind of, like, fun to be able to tell, like, how my career was before Mom Talk as well, because I worked corporate. I was in advertising, and then when I worked at Goldman Sachs, and then I worked as a marketing manager before I took social media full time. So I did stuff that people just don't know. Like, people don't know a lot about my tennis background. That was, like, my whole life growing up, like, was like, my identity is, like, rooted in sports, but people would have no idea watching the show because it's not talked about. So I am excited for them to get to know me better because I do feel like a lot of the things that I film on the show unfortunately get cut a lot. And I think it's because I'm not very dramatic. Like, I. I had a. I have a dramatic past. And you'll read about that in the Book. I think some people who have interviewed me, they're like, wow, I didn't know. Like, you're like, life was so messy back then. I'm like, yeah, like, there was a reality show back then. Then it would have been crazy. But, like, luckily now probably wouldn't have.
Podcast Host 2
Been good for you.
Macy Neely
No, it wouldn't have. So, like, we're in a good place now, and so I can talk about those experiences and use them. And I also think that's why I am very protective of my friends. And you see, see that on the shows because of what I've been through, especially with Taylor, because people are like, why is she so invested in that relationship? Because I feel like I've lived it before. And I hate watching you make the same mistakes over and over again. I want to, like, like, stop it from happening because I know how painful it can be. So I think people, when they read the book, they'll realize why I am the way that I am. And I'm excited for them to see that.
Podcast Host 2
Do you talk about the girls in your book and is there anything in there that could potentially upset them?
Macy Neely
I do talk with them a little bit. Nothing that would upset them, I don't think. Not that I can think of. Because it was like, it's not like, it's like, you know a ton about mom talk. It's kind of like, like how I got into it and like a little bit about the scandal and stuff like that. But I don't think there's anything that would upset them. If there was, I'd be shocked. And I probably wouldn't care because I'm like, I didn't write anything rude.
Podcast Host 2
A lot of people that write books will like, out certain people that and piss off family members. So you don't do any of that?
Macy Neely
Yeah, it's not like a tell all where I'm like, and then this person did this and this person did this. I feel like I'm someone who loves to give grace to people because I know I'm not perfect. In the past, I was definitely not always the best. And so I feel like I have to give space for people to who maybe have done me wrong or done me dirty in the past because, like, we're all trying our best is how I feel. Like, and in the past, and when you're young, I always say, before your brains developed, you do make a lot of mistakes. Like, I don't think I realized that until I got older. And I was like, wait, what were you doing? Or like, why'd you do this. Like, I feel like, like you realize as you get older, you know, certain things you could have done better, I guess.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
And have you heard from anyone that you hadn't talked to for a long time once the book came out?
Macy Neely
No, not yet. I still feel like I worry, like, when you're talking about family and like relationships, it is a little nerve wracking. Like, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about it. I did let my dad. My dad is the first person to read it. I mean, my husband has read read like most of it, but, like, periodically he hasn't read like the final version because we did edit things out. But my dad was like sending me paragraphs and he was like, if I would have known this was happening, I would have killed this guy. And I was like, I know since why I didn't tell you because I didn't want you going to jail. So, like, I wanted a dad and not a dad in prison. Like, certain things like that. Like, my dad read it and he was. He was shocked by some of the things that I wrote that he had no idea about, you know, So I do get a little worried about that kind of stuff. But like, my dad's read it and he, you know, is very supportive. So. Yeah, that's good.
Podcast Host 2
Well, congratulations and thank you so much for coming on and talking to us.
Macy Neely
Of course. It's always fun.
Podcast Host 1
And where do people get the book?
Macy Neely
Oh, yes. So it's like all over. It'll be on Amazon. It's on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, I think it'll be in stores in Target, like all the main areas you can get it if people want to sign copy. It's available on Premier Collectibles and then obviously the book tour.
Podcast Host 2
Do you have a copy of it in front of you?
Macy Neely
It's in my, my little book area. Here she is.
Podcast Host 1
Oh, told you. Looks so good.
