Now nobody wants to get. Can you talk?

No, no, I definitely don't want to get.

I don't watch reality shows, but let me just. In fairness, I never watch them, so it's not like I don't. I just never watched them. Then when I was on Housewives, I barely watched New York, you know? You know, they send you the screeners when I was on it. There was, like, DVDs. They'd send it. I'd screen it quickly. I just couldn't bear to watch myself.

And so. And then after I left, I just don't. I don't watch it. So I really. I don't know. You know, I know you guys from Instagram because you're very popular and on TikTok and stuff, so I see Clips of it. And Vicky I recognize because she's legend, you know.

So who are you most wanting to see? Brahm Khan? Is there anybody? You're like, yes, I want to see them.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

You know, someone asked me that earlier, I don't think. It's not like I want to see anyone very specifically, but I just like to. I want to witness the whole spectacle of it.

Are you going to talk about it on Substack?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Yeah. Oh, you're so sweet. You're such a professional. Oh, my God. Let me tell you, I'm on. You know, in all honesty, I was sort of like social media to me, was not my. It's not my vibe because I'm not like, really chatty and talking and like, I don't like my picture taken. So I'm like, what am I going to do? What am I going to do? I have all these followers. I want to, you know, I want to interact with them. And then Substack came along.

Well, tell us about that.

Well, they. They kind. I found out about it through some friends and they're. And. And I would go to parties in New York and they'd say, are you on Substack? Are you on. I'm like, what the Is Substack?

Do I need to be on Substack?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Well, I guess everyone needs to be on Substack now because I'm like, I don't want to be on something like Substack. What's Substack? And then I finally figured it out. I got on it and I am telling you, I'm obsessed with it. It's a social media platform. It has a Twitter element, which they don't call tweets, they call posts. And then it's really like. I call it Only Fans for the Brain because it's a lot of independent journalists. I don't do journalism there, but I write stories. So I've started. I've kind of fallen in love with writing again, which I really had not been doing since, you know, being on the reality show. And I just write stories. Like every week I publish a story. Oh, wow. A memoir, you know, story about my life. Present. I have stories about Watch what Happens Live. I have this great, like, behind the scenes film from Watch what Happens Live that I post there. I don't know, I just.

Were you surprised? Were you to be asked to be back on Watch what Happens Live? What was behind this?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Okay, I'll tell you.

My late husband and his cousin John and Carolyn Bessette. CNN was doing it, and one of John's closest, closest friends was producing it. Is it okay if I go back and forth?

And so I said I would participate in it, and I did, and it was fine. This was like a year ago. And then they asked me if I would do press, so I was like, not really so excited to do that. And I said, I'll do a few CNN shows. And then the producer said, well, what about Watch what Happens Live? I said, what? Like, it didn't even occur to me. Like, why would you want me on Watch what Happens Live? They were like, what? Of course we.

[Carolina Radziwill]

That's like, yeah, it's a great platform.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Anyway, so I texted Andy from the meeting. I said, hey, would you, like. Have you heard about this? They're pitching me for Watch what Happens Live. But, like, we should. You know, we should talk, right? We should. Like, we should kind of game it a little. And he's like, I think it's a great idea. He goes, I'm. He goes, I'll have my people call you. Like, it was just so, like, you know how Andy is.

[Carolina Radziwill]

Did you guys have a falling out?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Well, we had a very major public feud. Since I told him, like, you know, he's full of shit or whatever. I said on that reunion. That went crazy. That reunion was crazy.

[Carolina Radziwill]

That was crazy. No, no, no.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

That was, like, delicious. It was so terrible.

[Carolina Radziwill]

I've told him off at a reunion before.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

I feel like if there was anyone, like, I was cursing, and I was like. Anyway. Anyway, so we had a pretty major public feud for many, many years. But Annie and I have known each other for 20 something years, like, through friends that have nothing to do with reality. And we were just fighting publicly. Like, he would come for me and I would really be clapped back. And then finally last summer, I was like, what the. What are we doing?

[Carolina Radziwill]

Why are we doing this?

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah, I was gonna say, why do you think it didn't happen sooner?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

A lot of things, like, the confluence of events and stuff, and I think Andy really was out of place, and we both were where we just. We both kind of came to the realization at the same time, like, what are we doing? Like, we have all this history, and there's. I have so much respect for him.

[Carolina Radziwill]

Well, you knew him way before Housewives.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Way, way, way before. And. And. And I had so much Respect for what he did on Housewives. And even though I didn't even know what Housewives was, when he asked me to be on it, I thought it was talk show. I was like, oh, the talk show.

[Carolina Radziwill]

You do with the women?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

He's like, you're an idiot. And then we sort of had a. We had like a makeup moment. And very quietly, very privately. And then it got in the press a little bit, like a year later. But so then it was just like the natural progression that we would then, you know, heal the Bravo world by coming together on my vlog.

Did you ever think that it was gonna be that big of a deal?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

No, to be honest. And again, you'll see. Maybe I'll post this behind the scenes thing on my Instagram too, but it's on my sub stack. I was so nervous. I was like, I can't believe I'm fucking doing this. I was just my best friend. I'm like, what the fuck am I doing? Why am I doing this? They're not even gonna know. I'm gonna walk out. They're gonna think it's Lu. You know, maybe they'll wanna see, like, Ramona or Luann. I don't know. I was just like, will.

Like, I was really like. The fans went crazy.

[Tamara Judge]

Yeah.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Andy was like, oh, it's gonna be. And Andy's so always so upbeat, you know? So he's like, this is gonna be great.

I was like, you're all, is it?

But the minute I stepped out onto the set, it was. It was.

How many years were you on Housewives?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Six seasons.

So it's like seven years.

Yeah.

So after leaving Housewives was there cuz I was on 12 years and then I crazy and then I got. I got fire on 20 yeah, I got for eight. Well, it's 18 years, like this month that I was hired to be on Housewives. It's crazy. So for me, like, when I got let go at 12 years, it was like, identity crisis. Like, I was like, who am I now? Like, like, you obviously had other things going on. At the time, I was just a stay at home mom. I didn't have, like, this TV thing was crazy to me. But 12 years, like, my daughter had said to me, as I'm crying, mom.

I only know you as a housewife. She was a year old or a.

[Carolina Radziwill]

Year and a half when I started the show. So did you have that. Did you have any moments?

[Teddi Mellencamp]

I did. Even though I had had, like, multiple different kinds of careers before reality. But I will say, like, you, I did have, like, kind of like PTSD for a long time, like, being kicked.

Out of the Cool girl.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Well, and also, it's just like, the brand is very powerful.

[Ad Host / Advertiser Voice]

Yeah.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

And it's, It's. And even though I had huge career at ABC News, I published books and had a big writing career, I couldn't get a. I couldn't get over, you know, I couldn't. Yeah, I couldn't go back to that person as much as I wanted to. And, and because everyone would always be like, oh, you know, I, I, I pitched a book, which, A proposal. And they're like, well, you're gonna write about housewives. What about housewives? And so it was so hard for me to get above it and, and that, you know, now, you know, it's eight years, so it's just fine now.

[Carolina Radziwill]

Did you leave on your own or did they let you go?

[Ad Host / Advertiser Voice]

No.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

Well, after that reunion, I'm gonna. After that reunion, it became. Even a little before the reunion, it became clear that it was. It was unworkable.

[Tamara Judge]

The romance was over.

[Teddi Mellencamp]

It was unworkable for me to stay. There was another cast member on the show that, you know, we couldn't work together.

Yeah. Yeah.

And, you know, in the end, Bravo did you know the right thing by the show. And they. And she, you know, was, you know, just had more power, you know, on the show, so.

[Carolina Radziwill]

And I, she had more of a dysfunctional life.

We're like, hold on, let's stop beating right now.

Because at the end of the day, that's really what it's about when it comes to reality tv.

Yeah. Like, to be honest, I was surprised every year when they were like, you.

Really good person. And then I just recently saw Ramona and Luann at this party for Andy for the first time in, like, eight years.

I mean, we're not. We're not friends, but, like, it's like, you guys know, like, it's like a sisterhood almost. Yeah, Like a dysfunctional sisterhood.

Like, we get together and, like, there are. There should be cameras.

Yeah. I was really close to Ramona because we started around the same time, right? Yeah. And then after she left the show, I haven't really had much of a, you know, conversations with her, but I had dinner with Dorinda two months ago, or not even two months ago, like maybe six weeks ago in New York. And then Luann, we had her on the pod. We love her.

I mean, they're so still deep into it. So deep into it, like, into reality. And Dorinda does other shows, but I had dinner with Dorinda and a couple of friends, and Luann walked in with Sutton.

Yeah. In Beverly Hills. Yes, yes, yes.

So, I mean, literally, it was so funny to watch because, I don't know, the dynamic was very intense and, like, very, like. It's just like a housewife scene.

I don't, I don't. But I do know some of the newbies. Like, they're not new anymore, but, like Erin from Roni. We have a lot of mutual friends.

And we just had dinner together, and it got on social, and everyone thinks I'm gonna be back, but, you know, it's gonna be like, you hang out.
