All right, welcome back to this week's episode of Unlocked. The past few episodes have been absolutely insane. We've had people on that served time with mom, people who have met mom in her prison when they've been speaking to the other individuals. And so now I figured, why not have some of her friends on? So today we have Shane Stevens. Hi. Welcome.
Shane Stevens
Welcome. Hi.
Chloe
So I have known you for like 10 years.
Shane Stevens
I think it'll be 10 years and like five months.
Chloe
Really? How did you and mom become friends?
Shane Stevens
So I met your dad on Twitter.
Chloe
Oh, yes.
Shane Stevens
Because he saw something I posted about Sarah Evans.
Chloe
Yes.
Shane Stevens
He's like, I love Sarah Evans and you wrote her songs. Great job. Anyway, and then we ended up going back and forth and then.
Chloe
Cause Sarah Evans performed at our house when I was like 8 years old, I think.
Shane Stevens
Right, right. And we've been friends for a really, really, really long time. And he's like, oh, do you think we could ever get Sarah to come and do a song or something? And then that's how the whole relationship started. And then, then he sent you to meet me to make sure I wasn't nuts.
Chloe
Yeah. In Nashville, don't you? How responsible is that? Like, hey, let me send my daughter to go meet a man to meet nuts.
Shane Stevens
My teenage daughter. My teenage daughter to meet a grown ass man.
Chloe
Exactly.
Shane Stevens
And then you. You deemed me sane.
Chloe
Yes. And then we had the best time. Remember? Who was it that we were in my condo with that time? Remember we had the.
Shane Stevens
Courtney Allen.
Chloe
Yes. Courtney Allen. We had the best time that night. Oh, my gosh.
Shane Stevens
Oh, my gosh. Yeah. And then I met your mom and we fell madly in love with each other. And then she became my Costco runner. My personal shopper.
Chloe
Costco runner, personal shopper.
Shane Stevens
You need some furniture. We got some furniture for you.
Chloe
Literally.
Shane Stevens
Literally.
Chloe
Lunch date. I mean, y'all went out to lunch all the time.
Shane Stevens
I feel like all the time. And drove around the car and listened to new demos of my songs and Chloe would give me the feedback. You know, the kids are the ones that. That keep the temperature on what's cool or not.
Chloe
Oh, yeah.
Shane Stevens
She's like, I really like that one, Mr. Shane. And so we literally just drive up and down Tyne Boulevard and around Green Hills after eating and. And listening to country songs. So that is amazing.
Chloe
So have you stayed in contact with her?
Shane Stevens
I have emailed a lot and the emails were great and. And consistent for a while, and then they just kind of stopped, which has been very disheartening.
Chloe
Yeah. I think it's so hard because they've. I don't even try to email her anymore.
Shane Stevens
Yeah.
Chloe
Like, just because they'll. There'll be a huge delay in the emails. Sometimes it's like she wasn't even getting them for like three, four months.
Shane Stevens
I don't think she's getting mine at all anymore.
Chloe
Really?
Shane Stevens
Because she was consistently responding to me. I mean, there's been a couple times you. And I texted. I'm like, hey, I don't think your mom's getting this email. And then you. For some way she did. But I just like to be as encouraging as I possibly can. We prayed a lot together in person for years, you know, and on the phone and talking about books. We were reading and going to lunch and just talking about life. And she's just the ultimate encourager, as you know.
Chloe
Oh, yeah.
Shane Stevens
But she also don't put up with no bullshit.
Chloe
No.
Shane Stevens
And she'll call you on it and check in and be like, how you doing? How's your diet? Are you drinking?
Chloe
That's exactly. Are you drinking? You need to.
Shane Stevens
And come on over. I have a ton of leftovers.
Chloe
Yeah. Right. How's your diet? But let me feed you all this fat and stuff.
Shane Stevens
Let me feed you this homemade macaroni and cheese and drop that off in giant vats for you.
Chloe
Do you remember before she left, like, when was the last time y'all saw each other?
Shane Stevens
I came by the house because I went. I was performing at Dollywood for a Songwriters festival, and I went by this place that makes this hot cinnamon bread that she loves.
Chloe
Oh, yeah.
Shane Stevens
And so I had a couple loaves of that and drove by the house and dropped it off. But the time before that, we went to lunch at the Soho House.
Chloe
And do you remember anything in particular, sad or happy? All of it.
Shane Stevens
Particularly sad. Yeah. Hopeful, but sad. Like, we were sitting in her car. Actually. Last time I saw her was at the. We went to the farmer's market. She wanted to get fresh vegetables. She was going to make a dinner for everybody, and she. Organic everything. So we went to that and we sat in the car and prayed and talked. And at that point, she was pretty hopeful that things were going to work out and, you know, in God's timing, they will. But she was worried about the pressure that it was going to put on you in particularly, and it was really heartbreaking. Cause, I mean, Eric and I still drive around to this day, and you're.
Chloe
Like a big empath. Like you.
Shane Stevens
Very much so. And encourage her, you know, just like she is. I think that's just why we really, like. Your mom always wants me to win. She wants us to win. She wants everybody to win. She believes that there's room enough for everybody to have success, and then she loves to celebrate their success. Like when they had their podcast, like, she didn't even tell me. And I was just listening one day. And then she started this whole spiel about me and Fancy, like, and how great it was doing, and if you didn't know me, that you needed to know me. And it was my turn. And they were so proud, you know, but that's who she is. But the last time I saw her was sitting in her car and there were a lot of tears and she was scared, you know, I was worried particularly about because she had lost quite a bit of weight since I'd seen her just a few weeks before.
Chloe
Yeah, she was in, like, fight or flight mode. She just was so glazed over that you. She should have gone in way sooner, honestly, because her quality of life was not good. Good.
Shane Stevens
It's just the constant. The worry, you know, and the not knowing, the unknown. And the first email I got from her was probably within the first couple of weeks because, you know, we had to get a list and things like that.
Chloe
And she said, they make it. It's like an act of Congress to be able to communicate.
Shane Stevens
Right. But she did say, I'm okay, and I think I can. I can do this. I can make it through this. I'm strong. I can make it through this. It's, you know, not as bad as I thought it was. And she was starting to make friends, and people were really kind. The emails were pretty short in the beginning, and then they got longer. But, you know, your mom puts on a front, too. Oh, I'm great. You know, things are good. You know, I'm really hopeful this is going through. This is going through. And I just try to be as encouraging as I possibly can. It started, you know, I text you a couple times because I'm like, she wants to know what's going on in our lives.
Chloe
Yes.
Shane Stevens
You know, and there's a lot of beautiful things happening in our lives. Like, Eric and I decided to stop drinking alcohol. And I would talk to her about that. She's like, how is that going? Are you seeing a therapist? And, you know. But then she's like, well, what's going on with music? And then I would tell her those things. But it started to feel like I'm out here living my free best life, and this feels really insensitive to be sharing. Like, we're sitting. I'm sitting on my dock that I just built at my new beach house, and.
Chloe
Or I'm sitting at the Ritz or whatever it is.
Shane Stevens
I'm on an airplane going to Los Angeles. I'm doing. You know, and. And some of them were like that. But it started to really. There started to be a little bit of a roadblock for me. I was like, I can't. It feels icky for me to be talking about how free I am.
Chloe
Yeah.
Shane Stevens
Which is strange because I really enjoy talking to my friend about my life. You know, your mom and I would literally. In la, we walked one time from the Grove all the way to the Beverly Hills Hotel, just talking, talking, talking, talking, talking. And I was like, girl, between these bunions and plantar's fasciitis, how. She's like, you don't have plantar's fasciitis. I'm like, well, I've got some burning in the back of my ankle right.
Chloe
Now, so something's going on.
Shane Stevens
And I know you got these bunions on your feet. Why are we walking? We could get an Uber.
Chloe
What Was it y'all went to the bungalow, I think, that one time.
Shane Stevens
Oh, was. Yeah.
Chloe
You know, the place where you have to put the, the sticker on your back, your phone or something. I just remember y'all would always be like, all right, you and Todd come and you know dad, he'll be in his bed.
Shane Stevens
Oh, yeah.
Chloe
He'd be in his bed at 4:30 in the afternoon and he'd be like, all right, go have fun.
Shane Stevens
Oh, yeah, I just, I. We've. We have cackled into.
Chloe
But I think too, that's the thing is like, even though her life's not moving on, she has to vicari live through all of us. And so it's like, oh, you're doing this. Okay. I can't wait for us to go do that when I get out, you know?
Shane Stevens
Yeah. She said one of the last emails she sent was like, I can't wait till I'm down in North Carolina sitting with you on your dock and we can just listen to music and cook and talk and just be, just be in center in the stars and listen to the ocean.
Chloe
Well, I think what's hard is like right now, if nothing changes, which praise God, it changes soon, if nothing changes, she'll be home in August of 26.
Shane Stevens
Wow.
Chloe
So it's really. I mean, it seems like a long way away, but it's right a year away, a year and a half away.
Shane Stevens
It's a lot of life to miss.
Chloe
It is. And I think that's where it's hitting them right now. Especially Dad's birthday was two days ago and they realized like, we're only getting older. I mean, to think that this has been their third birthday.
Shane Stevens
I know. And I'm used to. I always call and sing oh yeah. You know, to everybody for their birthday or I send it in a text.
Chloe
Message in a voice memo and that.
Shane Stevens
Her first birthday was like, I can't do that. And that feels so strange. And you know, she'd always save them and call me about it and be like, that's the greatest birthday song I've ever heard in my whole life and do it again. You know, she's just, she's something else. She's a big ball of joy when she's in her happy place.
Chloe
Yeah. You know, and so is there any emails that have stuck out specifically to you that either you've sent or she sent or.
Shane Stevens
The last one I sent her, I really wanted her to get, like, really wanted her to get because it's been months. Like, I consistently send emails and Then I didn't for, like, a month because there was no response. And they delete them. Like, they go away.
Chloe
Yes.
Shane Stevens
So I started screenshotting them, okay. So that if I could resend it, I could. I could retype it or whatever. But there was. Eric has a best friend who was a school teacher in Atlanta, and she knew of this little girl who was in the hospital and she was dying. And her basic make a wish was to meet your mom and dad. And I told your mom about her. Her name was Grace, and she'd gone through, like, amputees and things like that. And she was a teenager. And I just sent her this message because Grace would have been 21 now, last week. And when your mom went to visit her, she had gone to Tiffany and bought her necklace and given it to her. Yeah. And I'll read it to you.
Chloe
I had no idea.
Shane Stevens
And the reason I wanted your mom to get this particular message was because it was just a reminder of who she is, who she belongs to, the kind of woman that she is. And that even though there has been, you know, really difficult times that have come from being famous, had she not been, she couldn't have given that child this dying wish, because that's who she. That's who your mom is.
Chloe
Yeah.
Shane Stevens
At the core. Like, she's a prayerful woman. She's a powerful woman.
Chloe
She'll give the shirt off her back.
Shane Stevens
To her and gracious person. The woman shows up at my house with Costco. Like, she's like, you need. You need more detergent. I got you some detergent. I got you some toilet paper. I got you some paper towels. Do you need any hand towels? You know, it's like they showed up at my house when we were in the middle of renovating boxes of tiles I think you brought over. You know, but this is what I sent your mom last. Hello, my beautiful friend. I hope this email makes it to you and finds you're doing well. Remember the young girl, Grace, that you and Todd visited in Atlanta? In the hospital, I believe you gave her a necklace. Anyway, Eric's best friend Brooke, that you met sent us a message yesterday saying that it would have been Grace's 21st birthday and that her mom posted something that she thought we'd love to read. So here it is. Today we walked. This is Grayson's mom. Today we walked and we walked and we walked. I walked with someone who became a dear and unexpected friend, someone I never imagined would be a part of our story, but now I can't imagine it without Her. But that's what God's grace does. It brings people into our lives at just the right time, in ways only he could orchestrate. Connections written into that story long before we saw the pages turn. We visited the man who baptized Grace and Caroline and loved her until the end with unwavering devotion. And when there was no more words to ease the ache, he brought her a milkshake every day. Even when Grace could no longer enjoy them, he brought them anyway, because that's what love does. We also visited another quiet part of her story, a man whose hands helped carry Grace into eternity, crafting the temporary resting place that held what we could not keep until Caroline let her go into the Sea of Galilee. I walked with people who supported us from day one and even before and after. I walked with others, too, those who were with us in the spirit the entire way. And a few hours away from Tuscaloosa, we passed sacred places, Grace's church and their schools and spaces in our community that shaped both of them. And we were met again and again by those who held us during our deepest heartbreak and still hold us now. This walk wasn't just about remembering. It was about love that lasts. It was about the grace that walks with us even when the path is hard and heavy. Today I walked with hope, shaped by sorrow, but not defined by it. Today I walk with deep, steady knowing that we never walk alone. So then I sent that to your mom. Then I said I wanted to send this to you once again to remind you of what an incredible human you are and that the fame that you and Todd receive was truly used for so much good. You both showed up and loved on a dying child that you didn't even know. And you brought her so much, and you brought so much joy to her and what would end up being her last days on this physical plane. I know with being in the spotlight, a lot of suffering has plagued your family. But I want to remind you that the one and only holy and true God trusted you in your heart to help this little girl. Had you not been famous from that TV show, you wouldn't have ever got to meet that beautiful child and bring her some happiness that she so needed and deserved during her suffering. God does work things together for the good, and he sees and knows. He sees you, and he knows what you're going through and will find a way when it looks like there is no way to right what has been wronged. So, my friend, you keep the faith, and we will celebrate you when you return with shouts of glory to the Lord, I love you more than words can say and I miss you every single day. Love, Shane.
Chloe
Oh dear God. I wasn't expecting this. I'm too hungover for these things.
Shane Stevens
Stop Time to quit drinking girl. I'll do it for the both of us.

I wanted her to get that because I haven't talked to her since the. I haven't heard from her since the court date from the appeal.
Chloe
I think, too, it's hard because a lot of it is like shame and feeling like people are moving on with their lives and feeling, you know, there's so many different emotions that are in it that it's just, I don't know, it's hard. And she's heard some friends of hers say, not you by any means, but some other friends say things that she's like, what the. If you were my friend, you wouldn't say this, right? Like, right, you. So she's been disappointed by a lot of people. So now part of me feels like she's just shut off.
Shane Stevens
Totally. I understand that. And I just message. I just, you know, one of the last emails.
Chloe
Well, if you see a number pop up, because when I talk to her tonight, I'm gonna tell her to call you. I feel like I am so close, like, so close to getting a call that's like, all right, they're coming home.
Shane Stevens
And that's where your expectation needs to stay. I mean, I know you said, I don't want to get my hopes up, but you need to keep your hopes up and you need to expect that God's going to come.
Chloe
It's a realistic expectation.
Shane Stevens
Absolutely. Because he can make a way when there is no way he has in my life. I have all the receipts for it. So I know I can speak to from experience, you know, to come from where I come from and to been able to do what I've done in my life and in my career and in friendships and relationships.
Chloe
Like, there was a thing that I posted. Philippians is known as the happiest book in the Bible, yet it was written in prison. Moral of the story, don't let your circumstances steal your joy.
Shane Stevens
Absolutely.
Chloe
And I'm like, that's our story.
Shane Stevens
The thing that I wrote down today that I wanted to remind you of is God's not waiting for you to beg him. He's waiting for you to believe him, faithfully believe him. Faith it till you make it, not fake it. That doesn't mean you have to put on a smile and fake it all the time for everybody else. But just to know that what you've asked, you don't have to keep asking for. He's heard you and you need to feel it in your body that it's true. It's the knowing that changes things.
Chloe
But, like, you've gone through a lot of crap in your life. Like, you've gone through a lot. How do you still have this mentality?
Shane Stevens
Because I witness waking up every day and breathing, and I'm still here. And I still have my mind and I get to create with the creator of the universe and sing my songs and write my songs and watch other people sing my songs and. And get to make friends like you and do life with people that I love. And, you know, no matter what, I know in my spirit and in my gut that I'm living proof that God is good all the time. And, you know, I think it's difficult for a lot of people, especially in this day and age, to have faith, you know, when things look so crazy in the world.
Chloe
Well, it is, because you're like, why me? Like, when is it ever going to let up?
Shane Stevens
And the thought for me is, why not me? Was it supposed to happen to someone? Somebody across the street? Are they less than I am? Like, God doesn't promise that we're not going to have suffering. We're going to have suffering. But, you know, I find a way to let the light in every single day. When it's dark, you turn on the lamp.
Chloe
When it's dark, you turn on the.
Shane Stevens
Lamp, you know, and I'm just like. And Just trusting and believing. Look, I had an encounter with Jesus when I was 30 that rocked my whole world, and it changed everything for me. And I'll never believe any other way, but.
Chloe
And what was. Will you go into that?
Shane Stevens
Oh, yeah. But for people that don't have an had encounter, it's hard for them to believe, you know what I mean? If their mother's dying or. Or they've lost a loved one or a friend or they've lost their job, and they're like, why? Why is this happening?
Chloe
Yeah, I literally just had a conversation last night, and I was like. This person was like, are you sure you're okay? Like, I think you're depressed. I think this. That I was like, exactly. I was like, no, I'm genuinely okay. Like, am I sad and upset over certain, like, certain circumstances? Yes. I was like, but look, I could sit here and feel sorry for myself, or I could be grateful for the fact that I have a job. I got to go play golf today. I have a kid in a private school education. There's one in college. There's work still happening.
Shane Stevens
Nanny's still here.
Chloe
Yeah, nanny's still here. And like, like, you can sit and feel sorry for yourself, but instead of doing that, look at your life and just take list of all the positive things that are happening. Like, sure, I'm sad, but it doesn't mean my whole life's falling apart.
Shane Stevens
That's right. And it's all about gratitude, you know, thankfulness and a grateful heart, I think is the key that unlocks heaven, that pours out more blessings into your life. That's what's happened for me. I get up every single morning, and Aaron knows this. I journal every single day. Some days it feels a little bit more like channeling, because it's like God speaking to me. And write this down and remember this. But a long time ago, I'd say 2010, I kept waking up with this song that I learned when I was a kid. And it was a Bible verse that was, Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all things will be added unto you. And it was every morning I woke up. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Every morning. And I'm like. Then finally one morning, I was like, oh, it's what you want me to do?
Chloe
I'm supposed to.
Shane Stevens
I'm supposed to do this when I wake up. So don't open my email, don't get in instagram don't text anybody. Spend my first moments in silence and quiet and listen for what you have to say. And so that's when I started really journaling. And then a friend of mine, my friend Lauren, who's a co writer of mine, a songwriter, she goes, shane, I just read this book called the Artist's Way. And I think you should read it because basically you do all these things in this book that she's saying. It's how you actually live your life. But it wasn't a person that told me to do it. It was the Creator, it was the Holy Spirit. And so that started to. Writing down. Having a gratitude journal shifted things for me in a really big way. And because it's always easy to look.
Chloe
At the one or two bad things.
Shane Stevens
Absolutely. But what the Holy Spirit said to me was, shane, write down your miracles because you'll forget them. And I want you to talk about them, because the more you talk about your miracles and my goodness, you'll remember it. You'll share it with people. It'll lift your spirits. I love talking about Jesus more than anything. I love talking about miracles more than anything. He even taught me how to pray. I used to be really scared to pray for people. Like, what am I gonna say? Is this gonna be enough?
Chloe
Am I gonna say something wrong?
Shane Stevens
I don't really know the Bible. Like, I'm not very holy God, you know? And God said, I'm not kidding you, when I say God said, it is a feeling, it is knowing, and is a. Something that I would never typically say about myself. You know what I mean? And so the Holy Spirit said, when you walk into a room and someone's not well, don't pay attention to their. Not wellness. Call forth their wellness. Because when you stood before me dripping your illness, I called forth your wellness. And so I go in smiling as much as I can, even if I know someone's suffering and be the light in the room to focus on, not the darkness in the room to focus on. I can't look so broken to make you feel better. Like, I need to look powerful and strong and loved up and whole and show you grace and mercy and love on you as much as I possibly can in your brokenness, you know?
Chloe
Wow.
Shane Stevens
And because, you know, love and happiness and joy is contagious without a doubt, you know, and so is fear and so is hate and anger.
Chloe
Last night, I was. I had gone and gotten cookout, and.
Shane Stevens
So, girl, love a cookout.
Chloe
I had gone and gotten cookout. We were riding home last night and There was this man on the side of the street, street. He was super clean cut. I knew something was up. And so then I asked him, like, what can I help you with? He asked if he could have money. I said, no, but like, here's food. He said he needed to get downtown. I was like, what do you need to get downtown for? And he goes, I need my medicine. I was like, what medicine do you need? He was like, I need my medicine. And I looked at him and I said, sir, there is no medicine that can do for you what Jesus can do for you.
Shane Stevens
That's right.
Chloe
And he like got there like, he kind of got a little teary eyed for a second and then just went back to asking for money and wouldn't take my corn dog and chicken fingers. I was like, this was a good meal, but, you know, to each their own.
Shane Stevens
Yeah.

A friend of mine, Lana, Jewish girl, went to Harvard and Oxford. She was a Rhodes scholar.
Chloe
Me too.
Shane Stevens
Chose other Rhodes scholars. Yeah, yeah. I went to hair school. I learned how to play Bleach and put in hair extensions. I was not a Rhodes scholar, but.
Chloe
We all are in our own way.
Shane Stevens
In our own way. I'm a spiritual Rhodes scholar.
Chloe
Yeah.
Shane Stevens
So Lana had moved from New York City to Indianapolis to work for this company that was starting an app. And she had moved into this building and told me when I got there to visit her to have an open mind. I was like, what have you done? Moved into a crack house on an air shaft. Like, what's happening? And she's like, no. And I was like, okay. So this was literally. I was still using printed out maps or something or whatever, you know, on my phone or something.
Chloe
Oh, dear God.
Shane Stevens
And so it took me around the back of the building, so I didn't see the front of the building when I pulled into the garage. I got on the elevator and went up. She opens her door and there's this really long hallway. And I was like, girl, we could literally roller skate down this hallway. What is this place? She's like, come on in. Come on, come on in. And I got to the front of the apartment and there were crosses in the windows. And I'm like, lana, what have you done? This is a Jewish girl living in a church converted to luxury condos. And I was like, your mom is going to freak out. Like, I celebrated so many high holidays with them in Florida. And she was from South Africa. She was born in America, but her last name is Israel. And so she was literally this beautiful blond Jewish girl named Lana Israel, Big blue eyes. And we went to Africa together. We've done all these things, right? And so she's like, I just moved. I found this place, and I just loved it. I felt so much peace here. I'm like, oh, okay. And so I had shown up to help her decorate, like, get things together. And the next day, it was actually Gay Pride. And we didn't go to drink or go or parade or dance around or do anything. We just. We went to brunch, had a completely dry brunch, and went back to her place. And when we walked in, I felt so strongly the Holy Spirit say, come soak with me. And I was like, what? And again, come soak with me. And I said to Lana, honey, this is going to sound completely crazy, batshit crazy, but I just heard this voice, like, in me say, come soak with me. She goes, what does that mean? I'm like, I think we should go down, Go in your meditation room and, like, put some pillows on the floor and just lay on the floor and ask God to come hang out with us. She's like, oh, my God, let's do it. Don't tell my mom. I'm kidding. So we throw towels and pillows on the floor and go to her meditation room, which is a bell tower. So there's all these crosses in the windows, and it's where the bells were, right?
Chloe
This is crazy.
Shane Stevens
It's wild. And so we lay down on the floor, and she goes, okay, now what happens? I said, well, I'm just gonna hold your hand, and we're gonna ask the Holy Spirit to come hang out with us. And she said, okay. So I did. And when I did, she started profusely sweating and laughing her butt off. Like, laughing, laughing, laughing, uncontrollable. I was like, what's happening? She's going, oh, my God. Oh, my God. I was like, what's happening? I feel nothing, by the way. What's happening?
Chloe
You're like, they told me to do this, right?
Shane Stevens
There's no Holy Spirit chills. There's no tears. There's no nothing. I'm not kidding. And she gets up and runs out of the room, and I'm laying there on the floor, like, is she coming back? No one's ever going to believe me. Like, what is happening? And so. So a few minutes later, I'm like, I'm just going to open my laptop and turn on GarageBand and record this, because if I hear something or see something, I want to have receipts. Yes, I'm all about the receipts. So Lana comes back in, and she has changed her clothes, and her hair is in a knot on top of her head. And she lays down on the floor, she goes, I want more. I'm like, more of what? So we lay there, and here we go again. She starts laughing, laughing, laughing. And it goes from uncontrollable laughter to inconsolably sobbing. And she starts saying, why are they doing this to you? Why are they doing this to you? And I now feel the presence of God. And I am so laid into this floor, and I'm like, what's happening, Lana? And she goes. She's like, why are they doing this to you? And she's like, wailing. And after the fact, she told me that she saw Jesus crucified. That's the vision she was having. A girl not raised in Christianity, a Jewish girl. And anyway, she said she saw him. She was literally with her eyes watching this. And then she lowered her eyes, and it was like he walked over to her, and she's like, oh, it's okay. He's okay. He's okay. Oh, Shane. He loves you so much. He loves you right where you are. And she rolled over and put her hand on my stomach, and I just started shivering and shaking. It was like the fire of God in my body. And I'm weeping. And then this is how God got me. And this is why I will never believe any other way, is because she said to me something that no one on this planet could have ever known. And she said, when you were hiding in the closet and this was happening, Jesus was sitting behind you in the clothes hamper with his hands over your ears. And I was there. I was there. I never shared that with the soul. And it changed. And he loves you, and he's always been with you. She knew very intimate details of trauma that I had never even told a therapist or a partner or anyone. And it broke me open. And then from then on, it was. I wanted to go deeper. I wanted to know more about this God that had loved me before I even chose him, you know, wow, that.
Chloe
Gave me such chill.
Shane Stevens
And the encounters continued over and over and over in different places. And I've just. Like, my prayer was, God, I just want to go deeper. I just want to go deeper. I've shared that with you. I've shared that with your mom before because we go real deep. And she's a pk. She a pastor's kid, so she loves to talk about Jesus.
Chloe
What would you say is your biggest message to people? Listening, hearing that story of, like, when's that gonna happen to me? Or how am I supposed to believe that? Or, you know, just people who are doubting?
Shane Stevens
I think. I think God is always waiting to encounter us. I don't believe. I've come to not believe that there's very much intervention. Like, we have free will. We have a choice.
Chloe
Like, we expect someone to, like, God, to show up and be like, what are you doing? No, I'm gonna fix this for you. And it's going to be in five minutes, and it's going to, like, it's a process.
Shane Stevens
Process. It's like, here's the thing. When you plant a seed, you're not digging the seed up every day to see if it's rooting. You know, there's a gestation period. You know, there's a time for things to grow and become. And I made it my business to sit down and read the Word and talk to people about it and have a relationship with God and ask the Holy Spirit questions. And there was times I was telling Aaron, I was like, I felt like I wasn't. I was in the shower praying and praying and praying and I was like, God, why am I not hearing you? God, why I'm not hearing you? And he said, because you're always talking and praying. Be still, be still and know. Be quiet, quiet your mind and listen. Because I'm telling you, when you hear the Holy Spirit, it is such good news all the time. I always say there's no sickness and disease in heaven. So God's not going to be telling you all kinds of crazy bad stuff about you. He's telling you all the good things that you need to know to encourage you to continue on your way to expand creation. So what I would say to people is, if you have a hunger to know who God is, he's not this thing. God is not this thing that's outside of you. It's an inner being, it's a knowing, it's a vibration, it's a still, small voice of positive, beautiful things that you would typically not say about yourself. You're going to feel something if you will just get still, be in the stillness to know, you know. And it's literally the seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you. That is literally what the word says and that's what it promises. And I decided to just try it out. Like, I'm like, well, what could go wrong? What could I lose?
Chloe
Exactly.
Shane Stevens
What could I lose?
Chloe
It's like that movie, God's not Dead. It's like, you know, if I believe that God is real and he's this most powerful person, all of that, and you don't and we die and he ends up being the most powerful person who loses.
Shane Stevens
Exactly. What have you got to lose by just giving it a shot?
Chloe
Exactly. You know, I love you. See, I needed this conversation. This was such a last minute thing. And it was one of those things like God knew. I know it needed to happen.
Shane Stevens
It's just we gotta be encouraged and encourage each other and remind us of our little small miracles. Like, I don't know if you remember this, but I wrote a song for you called Better, I think. I don't remember.
Chloe
Anyway, I've got some Shane Stevens songs.
Shane Stevens
But it was just, it was for me like this. This is how God. God speaks to me too, in songs and in music. Because I go into a writing session or I wake up and all of a sudden there's this melody and then there are these words that come and I am here, just like you are here to expand creation like everything that we're doing right now, this microphone, this couch, this rug, these lights, everything that we see, feel, taste, and touch came from imagination first. And so I always say, when I have this blessing to create music, and it comes from somewhere, like, inside of me and has to be from the Creator. And the creator must be so proud to watch his kid make something. You know what I mean?
Chloe
Where is it?
Shane Stevens
I want to see you smile again.
Chloe
Yes, I want to see you let.
Shane Stevens
Loving oh, let me be a reason Yes, I want to be a miracle for you Miracles, Yes. And you were just going through a breakup, and you were so sad.
Chloe
