Tara
Hey, Sid. I greeted you this week. Having a good day.
Sid
About time. I'm having a great day, aren't you?
Tara
I'm having such a good day, birthday girl. Aw, you remembered this year.
Sid
I didn't remember.
Tara
Really hard to forget. Like, honestly, I don't know how you forgot any other year either. Because like y', all, there's flames in studio.
Sid
Oh, is that why you pause?
Tara
Aw, I didn't get to blow it. No, it's okay.
Sid
This is so cute.
Tara
It's a.
Sid
Is this.
Tara
Is this strawberry? Oh my God. Thank you guys. Oh, well, raise your hand if you like strawberry cake.
Sid
I'll half raise it.
Tara
Oh, what. What's your cake of choice?
Sid
Yeah, I like red velvet.
Tara
Okay.
Sid
I like a chocolate one my mom makes, which is red velvet.
Tara
Okay. That's so good. So thank you.
Sid
You're so welcome. I mean, did you want to talk about your pants more or can I read you your birthday poem?
Tara
No, I. No, you can read the birthday poem.
Sid
Okay, wait, hold on.
Tara
Before you. Before you do it, I just got a new candle, so I do wanna.
Sid
Oh, and it's a lid already. We'll do it after my. Oh, I guess you did it before tp. It's the day you were born. I hope that fills you with glee. In a couple of days you have a hysterectomy. They might take your Yuri. That's uterus, but effort we ball. And if you do wake up as Tyler, you going to still be my dog? Cuz I'm fine. Like, if you ever transition, I love you all the same. It's whatever saying that. Yeah, I know your last couple years have felt like rocky timing, but hindsight is 20 20. I hope you've seen the silver lining. You've been uniquely positioned to have a platform with impact. So for all the people who ever bullied you, it's time for some get back. Imagine I start naming names, like as a gift to you. But I'll just wait for your cue on that. For now. I'm going be cool. I just had to make you laugh. I know you're probably about to cry, but. Happy birthday, Monique. We'll be friends till we die. Or until I'm the cult leader and the power dynamic shifts completely and I become absolutely insane. And then you die because I killed you in a power move. Happy birthday.
Tara
Was that all a part of the poem? Like even the happy birthday? No. Thank you so much.
Sid
Yeah. Got you, girl.
Tara
Wow. What a finish to the poem.
Sid
That's what she said. Oh, okay. I have the poem. Okay. Okay, go ahead.
Tara
No, thank you for that. Super impactful. I was literally about to cry, but thank God you dried up boats here so quickly with my. With my murder.
Sid
Take us to the theme song.
Tierra Wax
We say what we want and yeah, we say what we feel Sitting tmp of the mix and they be keeping it real on brand, off topic, out of pocket Anything you need, they got it why don't you shout when you know they gonna block it? When it's game time and you know I'm gonna block it, man. We cover everything like, whoa, who harder than us? And yeah, we looking down on haters? Cause they smaller than us and yeah, my flow is so damn sick I be coughing it up. You said that we going flat more than I'm calling your blood.
Tara
Well, thank you for that, Sid. Thank you, Tierra Wax, for showing up on my birthday like you do every week, girl. But we appreciate you coming back each and every week, especially today. So I have a little something I feel like everybody can relate to this weekend. I was getting a bunch of text messages from friends being like, I'm in New Orleans this weekend. Let's hang. What are you doing? What are you up to? Come to find out. Everybody was just in town for this Nike EYBL tournament, which, if you don't know what Nike EYBL is, it's elite youth basketball league. Back in the day, when I was playing youth basketball, it was called aau. I think this is just, like, travel ball now. I don't know what we call it, but it's a tournament.
Sid
New Amateur Athletic Union.
Tara
Thank you so much for that.
Sid
No problem.
Tara
So there was like, thousands and thousands of AAU teams, like, probably, like 10 to senior year, like, junior year of high school. And I was stopped probably no less than 300 times in a matter of, like, four hours. So, yeah, you're welcome, Nike. I just worked your tournament. But it was. It was so nice because all the babysitters, which is kind of weird because some of the people babysitting us are teenagers. Like, we have a lot of teenage babysitters out there, so we should be babysitting them. Yeah. And their parents. And their parents were keeping it real. They were like, hey, thank you so much for just, like, for you guys leading with authenticity and kindness and just showing that, like, inclusive inclusivity is with everybody and all this stuff. It was just like, really awesome to be able to spend time, you know, with some of the fans and also being able to see people that in some cases I haven't seen since. Since College, like, since 2014. John Silver at San Diego USD, we got Lissandra Barrett, Adrian Webb, Sequoia Holmes, Ashley House, a name that I love to use the full government constantly.
Sid
You do that for everybody, so.
Tara
Yeah. But said you're literally just Sid, though.
Sid
Oh, that's that. Yeah. Okay.
Tara
So that's okay. You can look at that in whatever way you want to look at it, though. It's positive.
Sid
I will.
Tara
Anyway, it was really awesome time. Like, New Orleans is a great place. I hope everybody that participated had a really great time in my favorite city in the world. And yeah, I just. I just thought nothing like seeing some old friends mingling with fans to make a weekend go well. So awesome time this weekend.
Sid
I love that for you. It's nice seeing old teammates.
Tara
It's so good. We got to bring some of them on.
Sid
Probably the.
Tara
To like, have a. We do like, just to like, recall. Cuz people were bringing up stories that I completely forgot about.
Sid
Same.
Tara
And you know, like, in an add brain, it just takes like a half of a version of a story for you to recall the whole entire thing. So I was just like, reminiscing all my college days. It was so cool to hang out with them. And we definitely need to have like a college reunion episode.
Sid
Oh, my God.
Tara
With our teammates, because I do have questions for them.
Sid
Their memories are so good. I'm like, how do y' all remember all this stuff? But I'm like, you. Once they start, you could just say a person's name and then things just start, like, flooding back.
Tara
You remember, like, the tiniest detail that made the story, like, that much funnier too. You're like, yeah, these are great. These are really great.
Sid
Exactly. What was it? How old was like, the youngest person
Tara
that I talked to. There were these three little boys, little bitty boys, like, I would have to say under eight. And they were so. They were so cute. They came over, they had like.
Sid
They said what?
Tara
You know when, like, the kids hands are so small that the phone looks like an iPad in their hand?
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
They came up to me and they're
Sid
like, hey, Mrs. TP, can we take a picture with you?
Tara
I was like, yeah, we could take a picture. We took a picture. They. They tried to do a selfie, but they were so small and their arms weren't very long that like, it was like half of all of our faces. Yeah, half of all of our faces made it. And the rest of that day, I just kept, like, seeing these little boys. And every time I saw them, they were acting like we were best friends because we pretty much were at that point. So we were, like, just waving to each other throughout the day. But they were like, yeah, eight. And there were such sweet kids.
Sid
Oh, that's.
Tara
It was hilarious.
Sid
I mean, I love that they knew that they knew you.
Tara
Yeah, they knew us. But, Sid, there were so many people out there. And also, Coach Joni told me to tell you hi and to stop by A and M.
Sid
Right? I'm get at her.
Tara
Yeah, but awesome weekend. Wish you were there.
Sid
Okay, so I did something fun this weekend, too. I went to my niece's ballet recital. Her first ballet recital is Leah, my sister.
Tara
Oh, let's go, Leah.
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
Did she win?
Sid
And I gotta give a special.
Tara
Do you win? Do you win them?
Sid
It's a performance with other kids. Like, everything's not about competing.
Tara
Oh, my bad.
Sid
You gotta get out of that mindset. Just enjoy time with family.
Tara
Yeah, my bad.
Sid
All right. We'll have to talk about friends who are constantly competitive because that's scary.
Tara
As I put 20 on the recital. I'm like, betting on children at recitals.
Sid
People do. But I gotta give a shout out to my other niece. My son's daughter, Katori. My son's daughter. What? My brother's daughter, Katori. She has.
Tara
Congratulations to you as well. Great grandchildren.
Sid
I was trying to keep talking so you couldn't give me.
Tara
I didn't get it. I didn't hear it. I knew who it was. I saw the video. I was like, yeah, she needs a shout out.
Sid
Okay. No, but Katori had a hula hoop performance at the Houston Dash game. And we were like, on far sides of town. So we didn't end up making it because my brother and sister in law were saying the traffic was so bad. But she's so. She's such a good hula hooper. She'll be standing and doing it. She'll drop to her knees, one knee up, like, kneeling. And stand back up. Katori, 7.
Tara
They're learning all this in hula hooping
Sid
now, but okay, so anyway, so we were at Leah's ballet recital. She was so cute. They were also cute in their, like, tutus and their outfits. And when we were done, we went to. We went to go eat, and I took Leah to the bathroom. She was like, I need. I need to go to the bathroom. Sydney. She has, like, a little lisp, and so it's the cutest thing. I love when she talks to me. So we go to the bathroom and I have to, like, take off her tutu and give it to My friend Ryan. Cuz I was thinking that it was just going to lift and it would be easy cuz my sister doesn't let them. Like we're not lining the toilet anything. Like I got. I just gotta hold her up. So I'm holding her up and she's like, oh, I sent me. You're so strong. I was like, oh, thank you, sweetie. Like, yeah, I have. You know, I've been in the gym. Thank you for acknowledging that. So I'm holding her and waiting for her to start peeing. And I'm like, I like was losing my grip a little bit because she wasn't picking her legs up. I'm like, use your core. Like engage your core. Put both knees up. My. You. She's four. Put both knees up. So she starts to. I was like, wait, do you have to. You got a number one or number two? I was like, you got a boob or you got a pee pee? And she was like, just pee pee. But she had just let out a fart so aggressive that it made the water ripple from where I was holding her above.
Tara
Like a sound boom.
Sid
Mind you. I'm like, so mind you. This is the toilet. I have you elevated to here so that you know we're going. It's going to go in the toilet. Your fart. You know what, let me raise it. Your fart has affect caused ripples in the water with how vicious it was.
Tara
And I was like tectonic plates then moved.
Sid
So then she starts peeing. She was like, it's just number one. Like. Like I was tripping for her farting in my hand. But yeah. Leah, love you, girl. So proud of you for completing your first ballet recital.
Tara
Wow, nice job, Leah.
Sid
But all of their teachers and stuff were really, were really nice. They do a great job with that program. And my. My niece has so much fun. And she was like cheering for her little best friend. And so was my nephew Louis. He was like, go, go an. And he was just so excited. He was filming on the phone, but I know he wasn't getting.
Tara
It was like he was just taking selfies the whole time.
Sid
Yeah. I'm like, you're not getting quality footage, bro. But I'm so glad.
Tara
All right, well make sure you're posting that content. I need to see. Ls v l l Vision.
Sid
L. I got you. I got you. But yeah, their teachers do a really great job. And that takes me to. We never got to have a full like segment on Teacher Appreciation Week. We did answer the dm, but I got Friends, I got family members who are teachers, appreciate what they do. It's not easy these days, especially with some of these parents and with the kids. But, you know, people are doing the Lord's work, teaching the youth. They really are. And it just made me think about these graduation commencement speech speeches that I've seen go viral over the last week or so. These commencement speakers, I'm like, who's vetting these people? The. The speeches are so severely out of touch with reality.
Tara
The people that are vetting these people are the same people that did the Dove ads and the H and M ads. Like, I know the group. I don't know them by name or face, but you. We know the group of people, you know?
Sid
You know, And I'm just like. So there was a lady at the UCF graduation, and she was talking about I being here. She's like. And I just play the clip. I need you to. Because I need you to hear her voice.
Tara
The cadence says it all. The cadence and, like, the confidence is killing me.
Sid
See me off so bad.
Tara
If I were saying this, I'd have to rush through this. She was soaking up every word, like, she was about to get a standing ovation like crazy to me.
Sid
She said, the rise of artificial intelligence is the next industrial revolution. Oh, Yeah. Not a lot of people are happy about that. She literally turned around. She said, oh, she keeps going.
Tara
What happened?
Sid
What happened? Okay, I struck a chord. May I finish? Passive aggressive ass.
Tara
May I? Or can I? Only a few years ago, AI was not a factor in our lives.
Sid
Yeah, everybody claps because, bitch, that's how we liked it. Like, who wrote this? Did she write this? She had to, because, lady, once they booed you at the intro. If I give my intro and they boo, I'm gonna try to adjust, like, a little bit of.
Tara
I'm gonna cut my speech short while I'm saying, certainly. Also another thing. I'm like. I'm looking at this video. Maybe she didn't write the speech. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe she looked back and she was like, andrew, I thought you said this was okay. He, like, looks back at the guy that actually wrote it. That was like, nobody. Trust me. Just go out there. You're gonna nail it. I know you are. And they started booing her, and she's
Sid
like, oh, my God. Shout out to Andrew.
Tara
Andrew. I must have struck a nerve. So, yeah, you sure she.
Sid
You definitely did. It's like she gave that speech, and then there was. Was it at Arizona?
Tara
Yeah, I think it was Arizona.
Sid
That guy at Arizona, the former, like Google CEO or something, who apparently has some sexual assault harassment charges from years ago. So people were pissed that. Why is he the speaker? Because of the content of the speech, but also the content of his character, apparently. What's going on? Like, what are, what are we doing? So like you said, the same people must be vetting these people. But he went on to talk about AI as well. But his was more. It was much more like he didn't give a damn about.
Tara
No, he pushed through. He barely.
Sid
He was very arrogant.
Tara
Yeah, he was super arrogant. And this is the, this is the funny thing about me. Commencement speeches are. I don't know because I didn't go to my graduation because I had to play it in a game. But commencement speeches are supposed to motivate you. It's your last, like, real speech that you're going to hear before entering the real world in the workforce and all these things. Why would a commencement speaker. And in this case, speakers. There was two plus idiots that decided to have this speech. Okay, so I'm showing up to a university where these kids have spent years of their life studying to try to get a great job in the workforce. And y' all are bringing up something that's literally going to take these especially entry level jobs, and that's just where we're starting at. Like she said in her speech, it's not even five years old and it's already taking these jobs from these children that are coming out of college. And you thought that it was a good idea to motivate these children. Be like, hey, you don't even have to work anymore. Don't worry, we're going to automate it and AI is just going to take over the world. You're good. Just sit back.
Sid
And they say, here's the.
Tara
Sit back and struggle.
Sid
AI is here. You don't have a job no more, bitch. Get with it or get ran over.
Tara
And so, yeah, no, I don't think they would take well to that. I could see students not taking well to that because now you're in hundreds of thousands dollars of student loan debt. That's not going to, that's not going to get tackled anytime soon. I know there was like talks of like, oh, it's student loan not going to be dissolved and all this stuff. Yeah, no, probably not.
Sid
But truly, this country's in debt.
Tara
Yeah.
Sid
People running this country are running it. Right. I would. If I have student loans, I'm not paying them. No, I don't.
Tara
Because who's gonna pop me?
Sid
I never would and everybody should get on the same accord and not pay them. Then you have, like, a sensible speech. Like Harrison Ford went and talked about, you know, how we need to be worried about climate change. We need to be respecting and bringing attention to the, like, terrible way that we've treated indigenous people, minorities. We need to be, you know, just like a normal speech. Like, I know that you're worried about, you know, AI, and I know that people my age have left this world a mess, you know, or left this situation like a mess for you all, but still trying to give them encouragement, like a super normal speech. So I'm just like, how do you even have such contrasting speeches? Like, we all see what's going on in the world. I don't know.
Tara
It's actually really insane that you have somebody like Harrison Ford that came on and did his commencement speech and the way that he did it. And also he was like, using encouraging words and trying to motivate these kids. And with that being said in contrary, these other idiots that were brought to their commencement speech, I'm like, a few years ago, I don't know if you remember this said, but Harrison Butker, the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Sid
Oh, yeah.
Tara
Who.
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
And allegedly, he allegedly is a straight man married to his wife. But if you go on his Instagram page, it is very, very damning.
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
Like, whoa. I don't know. And also, there was a lot of people coming out after he did this that were upset, that are in the LGBTQ community talking about how he was like, secretly, what's it called, on the down low in college. But it doesn't look so secret to me. I'm like, he's sassy. Anyway, with that being said, he was just talking about how there needs to be traditional values in the house.
Sid
He gave a speech.
Tara
And also, if you look up statistics, women are actually graduating at higher rates than boys. So I'm like, why would you go and give a speech talking about, like, yeah, women. Yeah, you just wasted your college time because you just need to have babies and cook for me and good for your husband.
Sid
Well, because people, it's not even like, tone deaf. I think the people, they don't care about what the tone is or what the situation is. They're gonna say what they believe and what they have to say. And they're just like, you know, anybody else that's not. That's not on. On board with this pretty much. But. But our. Our teachers in our life, I know we appreciated them a lot. We appreciate our family members Our friends, our babysitters, who are also teachers. Please, y'. All. We want to do something nice for a few of y'. All. I mean, we want to do it for all of y', all, truly. But we specifically want to choose a couple of you. And what we need you to do is write into us, like, all our teachers. Write in, like, DM at unsupervised TP and just tell us a little bit
Tara
about if there's a teacher, like, why
Sid
you do this or. Well, I want the actual teachers, but
Tara
I guess, yeah, there's been an impactful teacher that's really moved you in some kind of way. Or if, like, you're a teacher that, like, sticks with the times through all the hard times. We. We would love to hear from you. And, you know, we want to hear from you.
Sid
We want to do something special for you, your story, share your story.
Tara
It's incredible. So, speaking of other things that are, like, happening in the media that people are disagree with, I don't know. Have you seen in W News the Dallas Wings head coach situation?
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
So the Dallas Wings start off their season, like, in my opinion, after watching the games, I thought pretty good. Like, their record didn't necessarily reflect that because they lost a few games. But also coming off of the season that they had last year, especially rebuilding with a new coach and a bunch of young players looking pretty good. With that being said, the Dallas Wings head coach went into a.
Sid
With.
Tara
Went into a media session and just, like, talked about how there's selfishness in the locker room and certain things like this. And keep in mind, this was like, when we're three games in.
Sid
Yeah, you got to be so selfish for a coach to call it out.
Tara
You're publicly popping after three games.
Sid
Right. Or the coach is tripping or the coach.
Tara
There's. There's just some things that, like, the way that I'm looking at it, I could see. I don't know what's going on inside that locker room, obviously, but this is the way that I look at it. I. I really just think that it's way too early to be hitting the panic button. I think even the question alone was a lot to be asking. Something a lot like, why is every playoffs aren't right around the corner. Also, like the Wings, respectfully, if y' all are trying to win a finals this year, you're going to have to have a rebuilding season so quickly for you guys. And it's not like it's impossible, but also it's like, this is a realistic season. For you guys to regroup and build around a core that you guys have drafted. You guys went to free agency and got a lot of big pieces. Like, you have a lot of really awesome vets on the team as well. Like, and this is a time for everybody to regroup. So hitting the panic button after three games, saying the word selfish publicly is a lot for me. A lot for me. Because I don't think that that is anybody else's business, especially this early in the season.
Sid
Yeah, like, it's a conversation. It's a conversation for the. For the locker room in your eyes
Tara
at this point, I guess.
Sid
Shoot, he don't need one. But devil's advocate.
Tara
Oh, here we go.
Sid
Imagine this has been going on since training camp started.
Tara
Three weeks.
Sid
And it's like the exact same things that you've been talking about are the things that are. Or, like, more. Yeah, like a month and something like probably like five weeks or five. So the exact same things that you've been talking about are showing up in the game. And here's the reality to the. You know, we have perspective inside of locker rooms, you know, having friends in locker rooms, whatever. We know the real spill a lot of. A lot of times, and you know what's really going on. But here's the reality that people have to understand from the outside. Fans have to know that egos were already here on a lot of teams for a lot of players. This is pre cba. If you think that you're not gonna have players absolutely bucking whatever the system is, now that people are getting paid in an ordinant amount of money for six months, you're out of your mind. On the other hand, I don't know, as a coach, do you expect it and prepare for that and just move accordingly? Like, I don't know, because it's just. It. You're bound. You're bound to deal with this, you
Tara
know, but also, I think, like, I think back, right? Egos aren't a new thing that just happened because money's around. Egos have been around for a very long time. And you have to think, like, basketball and coaching has been around for a very long time. We. This is, like, very new that media, you know, when we're in. When we're in college, we go to media training to prepare ourselves and our. Like, from our university standpoint, to prepare us to not give the other teams, like, what. What. What we used to call it.
Sid
Anything to feel.
Tara
Yeah. Like, locker room talk or whatever. So we learn how to, like, phrase the things that we need to say without like, you know, hurting anybody's feelings or like certain drama or whatever that is. Now also we're taught that like, let's keep our business our business. Unless there's something public that happened and was like a clear display of something that needs to be addressed. I've never seen just like, hey, what could it be? Probably selfishness. Hey coach, do you guys have selfishness in the locker room? And then him being like, yeah
Sid
so fucking much. No, because such and such a.
Tara
But like, it's just crazy to me that that's the day and age that we're in that like we. You can ask those questions. And those questions are actually answ.
Sid
There are a lot, and there are a lot of coaches too who either came from college, you know, or from other. Like if you're entering coaching in the wnba, like it's different. I think a lot of the times people still treat. I don't know if it's because it's women. They treat you like you're still in college sometimes, you know, especially if it's a male coach. But it's like, yeah, like these are grown ass women. So at the same time, while you are the coach, also watch how you talk to me. What? Because why are we getting, why are we ever getting disrespectful? And I'm not saying that any of this happened. I have no idea. But these are situations that we've seen or been a part of. So it's like at the same time it's grown people. We don't have both sides of the story. We can't really say we don't have
Tara
any side of the story. We don't have everybody else that we just saw the public side of the
Sid
story and we saw what the coach said though. So I mean like, we know that side of the story. We're missing from some players. I know I saw. So I'm in agreement with you, like keep, keep stuff in the locker room because that certainly isn't going to probably get the selfish person to now be unselfish. Being called out publicly, whether a name was mentioned or not. Like, I don't think that that is probably going to move the needle. But I also, I don't know if you saw Maddie Segris. She was getting interviewed like after one of the games and people were just, you know, speculating on maybe what her mood was. She seemed frustrated with the game and with her not playing as much, not really knowing. I forgot what the question was. But she, she responded that, you know, she's just trying to figure out her role and just do her best when she comes in. Like you said, a very PC media trained answer. But if people are reading into it, it could be like, yeah, I don't know, I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do and I'm giving these stats with this amount of time I'm being told XYZ behind the scenes. But,
Tara
but also that's doing what I can. That's a job. When you're an athlete and you're working a job, your boss is your coach and it's like you're in your, your portfolio of work is basketball like you're playing. It's not like you have this paperwork and that paperwork. Like your portfolio of work is your work that you're doing on the floor. So like it's. If a question does come to you, a PC answer. Yeah, that's the way that you should move. Because in my opinion, because first of all, we're brand new into it, new coach, whole new system, new team for the most part. And everybody's got to figure something out. Nobody should be panicking. Three games in a championship isn't until November, October, whenever the championship is, it is like half of a year away.
Sid
So do you think next week he's gonna.
Tara
So next week, panic, fire the whole staff, get interview.
Sid
He's like, actually, you know what, trade
Tara
all your assets like next week though. Yeah, but just give it some time. Like I, I think that there's pace to how the season goes. Like everybody. Sid, whenever you were on a, you were just in a rut. Like we've been on some teams that went through a bunch of losing streaks where we had like actually some people that wanted to get together, we just couldn't figure it out. And if it's newness, if it's just like chemistry, if it's just like just difference of opinions of like how to go about playing whatever it is, you need time for everyone to figure out on court what is working and what's not working. Because if your words aren't going to get you to buy into a game plan, then hopefully you using your eyes and seeing how the game's being played over some games is going to help you realize like, okay, yeah, like we do need to get the ball to Sid more. Sid needs to get about 10 more shots a game. And I didn't see that when the season first started. But this is an adjustment that's necessary. Adjustments need to be made.
Sid
I like that adjustment.
Tara
Hey, I haven't Seen you shoot the ball in years. So, like, I think that you should shoot. I was seeing you shoot at practice and you were lighting it up. My dog can you.
Sid
Saying that made me think about, you know, the amount of time that players have with new coaches to get adjusted. Like you're saying the thing. It shouldn't be the case, but maybe a different demeanor and approach comes with people feeling like they can trust somebody. It's not enough time during training camp when you have a new coach to, like, buy in to trust a person. So it's also a very critical time because you can already be rubbed the wrong way in that amount of time. We. We don't know how he talking to people in practice. We don't. We don't know what's going on. But, like, if you're talking crazy to me or it could be passive aggressive stuff, it might not even be direct, but I'm get catching a vibe. There are certain players that are gonna respond with that the way that they see fit. And so sometimes I think some players don't. They don't think about it, about how it's maybe affecting the team or hurting the team. My goal is to get at the coach or this person. Like, but once again, this is all speculation. We have no idea. But we have no idea.
Tara
But also at the same time, like, people, we all think that, like, athletes are athletes and they train really hard. You do so much drill work, and you're always in the gym, you're always watching film. Like you're prepared. But people take away. And even from a coaching staff, like, you have maybe have years of experience, blah, blah, blah. You watch film constantly. You're doing scouting reports, you're working with your team. You're, you know, plotting against the other one other teams, like, all this stuff. But people take away, like, the human element of being an athlete and being a coach. You still have emotion, you still can feel confused. Like you just don't have it all figured out because you played basketball before. The way that I played basketball and learned basketball isn't the same way that you learned to play basketball. But after spending some time together and us building chemistry, we can learn how to play the same game together. And that just. It just takes time. So for all W fans that are frustrated with your team right now, it's early. Y' all, give it some time. It's a long. It's a really long season. It's longer than last season by like two games. Right?
Sid
Right. Yo, you almost didn't have a team to be Watching. So be grateful that you have one to be watching. Shut your asses up. All that wanted.
Tara
Yeah, because just 30 years ago, that wasn't the case.
Sid
Right, but. Okay, so I gotta ask you if you've seen the video. And I meant to bring this up last week in our W talk. I don't know if you saw. I meant to bring it up last week. The. The Zoom. Well, actually, I know you didn't see the Zoom conference.
Tara
Yeah, I've been holding out.
Sid
I know the Zoom conference on media day with involving Dominique Malanga and our fam. I'm gonna just list you. I'm gonna let you watch. That's great. Wishing you guys a great season.
Tierra Wax
And our.
Sid
I'm sorry.
Tara
K. We don't have AWA Here.
Sid
Oh, I'm sorry.
Tierra Wax
Okay.
Sid
I just.
Tierra Wax
Okay, thank you.
Tara
We'll jump to Courtney. Courtney. Go ahead. I hated every second of watching that. I really hated it. That was so. God, that was so. Was so cringy. I have, like, second and third and fourth hand, like, awkwardness and embarrassment from that situation. God, I hated that.
Sid
Where do you feel it?
Tara
Where do you feel it? Like, literally in, like, the bottom of my throat. Like, I think this is where anxiety starts. And then I feel it, like, in my gut. Like, every part of my body is telling me, lady, shut up.
Sid
That's so crazy, because I kind of just watch it and I'm just, like, weak about it, like, internally. Like, I don't really feel awkward for them. I'm just like, but this is nuts. Like, he interrupted. Said, we don't have our here.
Tara
Hey. No, I just.
Sid
She said, huh? Well. Well, then who's this black chick? Like, who's this? She never says sorry either. She just.
Tara
No, she was trying to explain herself and she's like. She called her boyfriend after. She was like, you'll never guess what just happened to me. I guess watching this as a white person and a black person is probably a very different reaction. You're probably, like, sick and just used to this kind of behavior. And every single time, it never gets easier. As a white person, like, you just. As a white person that tries to be the best ally as possible, you just, like, hope, like, the cringy moments that, like, white people are just so used to. Like, you're just so used to hearing from white people. You just, like, hope and pray that you never ever. Like, I hope that just. It never comes out. Just. Everyone just wakes up one morning and they don't have these cringy moments anymore. And for us to be in 2026. And this is just subtle, but just any form of blatant.
Sid
For me, what killed me was that the camera. I don't know if it was in the. The one that you saw, but there's an angle where it moves from, like, I think the coach and another player. And then as they're, like, saying, question for awa. It's moving to her. No awa. Why? Because no AWA there. Just Dominique Mal. The lady, once again, never apologized to. So I'm just like. This isn't even. Like, it kills me when it happens in a game because I'm like, all right, commentators. Like, you're. You're there. You're literally looking at people. But okay, like, you mess up a name that. I guess that might happen, but they don't look alike, and I mean at all. And you're right there in the conference room. It would be like if you're. I'm just talking to you, seeing you fully. I'm not, like, up in the stands where. Okay, I can just see. It's a black dot moving. I don't know which one. I'm gonna just yell out a name. Yo. Like, you see who it is? And I think they usually have the players, like, pictures. Yeah, I'm just like, you just gotta. You just gotta try harder. But she for sure called her boyfriend.
Tara
Okay, fine. I have a moment that I do want to talk about where I was mistaken for a woman, actually.
Sid
Oh, I love it. Oh, I know who.
Tara
So I'm in the bubble. And you remember in the bubble, like, you could order food by the pool and they would just, like, charge it to your room. So me and some of my teammates ordered some chicken wings, and we were right by the pool, and the waiter came back up to me after I was done, and he's like this cute little gay guy, and he was like, I remember you. And I was like, oh, my God.
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
I was like, just put it in my room. And he was like, tarazi.
Sid
Right?
Tara
And I was like, she can afford it. Yeah, Tarazi. I also think that Diana Tarazi is a vegan, so she had some chicken wings ordered to her room. Sorry, girl, that was me. But I'm hoping that we're good.
Sid
See how. But see how you said, sorry.
Tara
No, I didn't.
Sid
All is well.
Tara
But, you know, it was a hard time. It was the bubble. I thought Diana could spot me some chicken wings. Yeah. I've never said that out loud.
Sid
I hope somebody sends this.
Tara
No, sorry, D. What's wrong with you? Gosh. But you see, that's how you just make up for it. Like, it was completely accidental.
Sid
It wasn't.
Tara
I said, yeah. I could have said, no, my name is Teresa.
Sid
Could have. So many other things you could have done, like you're acting like you were forced to do.
Tara
There was. There was, like, the amount of white girls that's just on the Portland fire, just in the league in totality. So I'm sure we got mixed up a lot, because, again, there was, like, six of us back then, but now just one team has the amount of white girls that I entered the league with. So. Hey, we're on the way up.
Sid
Dei. I thought it was no dei. Hey, hey,
Tara
hey. Anyway,
Sid
Idiot.
Tara
Speaking of white people.
Sid
Oh, I love transition, man.
Tara
We got some whiteness for you today, y'. All. The Alex Murdaugh trial. I don't know if you guys followed this. This has been. This has been happening since what? I think the. The murders happened in 2021.
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
And we're now in 2026. And that ruling got overturned.
Sid
A different murder happening.
Tara
Like, so this is somewhat. This is somewhat of a spoiler alert because there are multiple documentaries out about this exact case, and if you haven't checked them out, they're really good. If you're into true crime, which we talk about true crime all the time at this point. You got to be into true crime if you're following us. But this is actually insane.
Sid
Just cut it off.
Tara
What's going on here?
Sid
So Alex Murdoch, who is the father of this family, two boys and his wife. Sons are Paul and Buster, and I forgot the woman's name.
Tara
I'm sorry. Buster is such a funny name for a child. Like, I actually had a hamster named Buster.
Sid
Well, he looked like that kid, so he died.
Tara
My hamster.
Sid
Yeah. His dad will probably kill him, too. So just wait on it. So Alex Murdoch, his son Paul, underage but an alcoholic. And there was a night when him and all of his friends were out, he used his mom's credit card, his brother's id to buy alcohol, even though they knew he had a drinking problem. People had told the family he had a drinking problem.
Tara
All of this, they're like, no, no, he's good. Since 14.
Sid
He's good. He's good. Leave Paul alone.
Tara
Small town in South Carolina.
Sid
Small town in South Carolina. So his girlfriend is telling him. And this is on film. They have film of them walking on the dock. These were, like, the last sightings of the girl before they got on to the boat. So her and other people Are trying to urge him and persuade him to not drive. He's an arrogant little. Obviously drives anyways. Runs the boat into a bridge.
Tara
Like some bridge post. Like a post that holds up like a bridge. He ran directly into the post instead of, like, going in between the post and going under the bridge successfully.
Sid
So you can keep going from there.
Tara
And everybody on the boat survived besides his girlfriend and the Murdoch family history before we get to the rest.
Sid
Wait, but C.P. and she was. She was, like, ejected from the boat, right? Wasn't that it? They wanted to go back for her.
Tara
They.
Sid
People wanted to go back and see what happened.
Tara
They wanted to go back and see what happened. But they. The Murdoch family has been in this town since, like, the 1920s. And they've also been, like, a very prevalent family in this town since the 20s. They have a quote, and I'm gonna put quotes around this audio. Successful law firm built on frauding people and scamming their victims that they're representing. But again, building a very successful, wealthy law firm on the backs of their victims that they ripped off. And since the 1920s, in this small town, they've pretty much know every single law enforcement officer in this little city. So from the second that the accident happened, they were actively trying to pin it on somebody else. And by pinning it, just like, not blaming the son. There's multiple witnesses.
Sid
Yeah. Anybody.
Tara
They're all like, kids. I think he obviously, Paul had the most wealth in the Murdoch family. Is trying to pin it on one of Paul's best friends.
Sid
He's like, who's the most. Who's the poorest little. That one blame him.
Tara
And they tried to pin on this guy. But again, there's eyewitnesses, some of them, some of these kids. And the kids families are very intimidated by the Murdoch family because of the power that they hold in this city. And so some people spoke up, some people didn't speak up. But this was uncovering the start of something a lot bigger than just this boating accident.
Sid
Also, CP didn't he wreck a car? He wrecked a truck before with the girlfriend or something.
Tara
I think he had, like, some kind
Sid
of d. Didn't that happen in this story, like wrecked it into a ditch or something? The girl was about to try to call her people, and he was like, no. And I think he called his dad, who then called officers or something to come, you know, like, get them and make sure there wouldn't be, you know, an arrest for, like, DUI and just underage drinking. Drinking. Underage drinking. Right.
Tara
Literally anything.
Sid
Okay. So, so this is. Yeah, so this is one thing that he had done before. I'm sure there were many incidents like that because he never got in trouble from his parents.
Tara
And so because of this boating thing, he had to like pull. And this is how I'm taking and receiving the story. He had to ask a lot of favors and stuff like that. And everything was coming to a head with him and his wife and his family because apparently there had to. They were looking for the release of like documents and text messages and stuff like that. And he refused to release these things because the, the release of these documents would have shown a history of financial fraud. Years and years of history of financial fraud within the Murdoch family, specifically Alec himself. And so that takes us to the day that Paul and his wife were murdered in their hunting sheds or their hunting.
Sid
Yeah.
Tara
Space on their estate.
Sid
Vacation house.
Tara
On their very large estate. So there's like a lot of things that went into this case. The day that the murders happened. He had an alibi that was like almost immediately debunked because when he said that he was at his parents house or something like that at the time of the murders, allegedly his son, the one that was murdered, has an actual Snapchat video of him of his dad and his mom having a conversation in the background of one of the videos that he saved in his time stamped in his actual phone. And they didn't find this video because there was like some evidence of them trying to like clean up the phone and make it seem no one checked Snapchat and this video was, it was off Snapchat and the video was uncovered. And so they have now evidence that his alibi is completely wrong. So it was like, okay, yeah, you weren't there because it showed that you were actually here in this hunting house
Sid
where your wife and son die. Wasn't there like barking or something? The dogs were barking on the video or something?
Tara
I don't remember. I don't remember.
Sid
There was something with the dogs barking in addition to that video, I think with his, his voice being heard. But if we go back, also, their housekeeper was mysteriously killed. They said she tripped over the dogs. Like, poor dog. They keep being involved and shit. They're like, I hate this family.
Tara
Always something with these assholes.
Sid
We're rich but we're corrupt. Like the dogs. They said that the dogs tripped the housekeeper. She had like fell down the stairs or something and then days later she died. They never did an autopsy. His firm. His firm took money for that. Should have gone to the, the son for like, I don't know, I forgot. For, like, her wrongful death or for whatever it was. He was supposed to get some money. Alec, Alex and his friends, they took that money, put it in that account that you were talking about where they were enriching themselves off of people that they were. That they were gipping. So that happened with that woman. I forgot how long before this murder, but once he was at the house, he got the wife there on what she called, like. She called Alec, acting weird to, like, get her somewhere. She had, like, text her sister because he kept. He called her, he text her. He was wanting her to come out to their other vacation house to then drive with him to see his parents. She was like, I'm just gonna go there. And he kept being like, no, come here, come here, come here. So she texts her sister and was like, hey, Alec is acting very strange. So they have obviously that transcription, those texts showing that she said that it didn't match up with what his story was. Obviously, as you said, and out an hour after she was supposedly killed was when he sent a text saying, call me, babe. Sent that to his wife. So after this nut shot her, waited an hour, texted her. What they saw on the phone, though. So they said her phone was in airplane mode, but because of the. The geolocation or a tag or something, they were able to see, still see, like, where her phone was located. And they could see that the phone had been picked up and moved to a different location. And also that the orientation of the phone had been changed. 1. This is just creepy how much they can track with our phones for one. But also they. They saw that he was trying to get that phone and change to do face id and it wasn't working, obviously. You know, like, change. It's probably on her face to do face ID or some shit. And it wasn't working. And then he made, like several calls to just seem like he was trying to get in touch with her. Even though you killed her. Like, you're sending these texts an hour later, like, call me, babe. Like, what? Call me basically, babe, Hey, I just killed you crazy. I know you're dead, but call me, baby.
Tara
Like, what?
Sid
What? He needs to be executed.
Tara
The fact that I'm talking about somebody that goes and tries to, like, make a storyline to your crime. Like, you do the crime, you just try to run away. That's dirty in and of itself. You try to make a storyline behind it to make it seem like, oops,
Sid
oops, I'm such a good husband.
Tara
Could never have Been me genuinely.
Sid
He's sick.
Tara
So sick.
Sid
He's so terrified sick. But what was it with the, with the oldest son? Because pretty much everybody else was like people are afraid of him in the town. Like they know how this family gets down. And really Buster was the only, the only one who was coming to his defense at all. But that's because if something I'm sure the dad is like paying the son off at this point. But he also I think tried to have himself killed so that his son would be able to get money and he couldn't do that if he killed himself. So he hired a friend to do it and they botched it.
Tara
Yeah.
Sid
So he's just a bad planner.
Tara
That's why men can't do anything. If a woman would have done that, it would have been perfectly executed. That's not funny. But it is.
Sid
Executed wasn't the right word for that.
Tara
But also the.
Sid
But honestly sounds like the family like
Tara
going no, cuz the oldest son's like also really weird. There's like also a mysterious death to a 19 year old boy named Steven Smith in 2015. Stephen Smith was, was an openly gay 19 year old nursing student and high school classmate of the oldest son, Buster. And his body was found in the middle of a rural road in Hampton county about 15 miles from the estate with severe head trauma. And his death was originally ruled a hit and run despite lack of vehicle debris. So he was just like found on the side of the road and they said hit and run but there was no evidence that a car actually touched this guy's body. He just had head trauma. And in 2021 the while investigating the police uncovered and disclosed evidence that prompted them to formally reopen this case. And in 2023 officials officially reclassified his death a homicide. But Buster has obviously denied that any of this has happened in any involvement and no charges have yet to be filed. And I bring this up because this family obviously has a history of very, very violent and scary crimes and also crimes that aren't that are happening to people that they have a reason for it. And also some of these people were deafs that they don't even have like a real reason as to why you would kill this person, which is very scary. But the crazy thing is is that this town is so small and everybody understands the power that these people have. A lot of people are so scared to speak out. Even like friends of the kids family, friends of the, of the parents, like different things like that. People are very scared to speak out against them because of Just the pull they have here, the pool they have.
Sid
And they're gonna get. They're gonna get a case thrown out, or they're gonna get it to not even become a case because they've, you know, tampered so much ahead of time. Like, dude was going. Alec was going in the hospital to talk to kids and their parents to tell them to blame that other kid. But this is relevant, y', all, because Alex Murdoch's murder. Alex murders. That's his last name for me. Alex murderer. His. His murder conviction has been overturned, and they're gonna have to start a new trial. Trial. Because he was suing because of. Apparently there was jury tampering.
Tara
Well, also, there's, quote, jury tampering. Because the town is a very small town. Everybody knows the Murdochs because they're like that family in town. And then on top of that, this case has been so elevated in the public eye that would be impossible to pick a jury unless that those people are living under a rock or, like, whatever. Or if you don't have a television, maybe you don't know. But it would be impossible for you to not know who this guy is. For you to have any biases in favor or against. Like, so it's impossible to not have jury tampering because it's like, who doesn't know about this case?
Sid
It's actually, yeah, there's gonna be bias. There's gonna be bias, but this is just another example of, like, watch. Watch this man not go to jail. Watch him not serve anytime. Especially with the way things are going.
Tara
It seems very on brand and have been going, like, very unbrand. He's gonna get away with it now. Hey, keep it up, you guys. If you like how things are going, like what?
Sid
All right, well, that is nuts. We'll keep an eye on that. And by keeping eye, like, hopefully we'll see when an update happens, because I'm not keeping up with that at all. But you know what I do want you to do for me? Tp, Even though it's your birthday for you, take it to my favorite segment.
Tara
Goes down in the dm. It go down. It go down in the dm. It go down Echo. All right, y'.
Tierra Wax
All.
Tara
So I don't know. I don't know who wrote in. It seems very anonymous. A very anonymous wrote into us. Hi, ctv. Much love from Canada. I'm a sports journalism student that dreams of reporting on the W and exclusively women's sports. I wanted to ask you both, as female athletes, if you have any advice. You have have for someone with my aspirations. P S Justice for audio listeners. Love you. No, thank you for that last piece as well. We gotta have a T shirt made for the audio. Sorry. We do love y'. All.
Sid
The shirt is like shittier than videos shirts. It's tattered.
Tara
It's like we got all hand me downs. Just kind of re repurpose for the.
Sid
They're like, how is this a. How is this a large? It just is. One size fits.
Tara
Hey, take it or leave it, audio.
Sid
I mean, I got a few suggestions. I guess my first one would be learn who Dominique Malanga is and also our fam. And then don't confuse.
Tara
Please also listen to this episode. You can learn a lot about how athletes feel just based off of how we, you know, dissected the two media moments that did happen in the W. And another thing is, for me, I think that we have a lot of. The W is, like, really lucky. We have a lot of really great reporters that really do want to build up the women's game and want to shine the best light possible on the teams, the players, etc. And I think that especially right now, it's. It's really important for women's sports when we're trying to turn that corner and be named with all these male sports and these major leagues, that it's. It's important to keep building us up. So making sure that you're being honest in your reportings and also making sure that you're getting the stories that. That highlight what we're about and the people that are. Are having these stories. I think women's sports are also different than men's sports in the sense that we. As a women's sports fan, you're more attached to a player in a story than you are a statistic. And I think storytelling about players and who people are, it's kind of how Sid and I got our chance to even have this podcast. As we had a TV show, people got to know us a little bit more about who we were. Then all of a sudden, the next thing you know, we're the faces of the wnba. Never once asked for it. Didn't even try for it, but us sharing our story kind of let that joke happen, and here we are now. So I think storytelling about the people that you're reporting on and. And building people up in the best way possible is the best way you can go about reporting on the W and just women's sports generally. What about you? What do you think, Sid?
Sid
I have nothing to say. That's the perfect. That's the perfect. I mean, nothing's perfect, but that was damn good.
Tara
Thank you so much.
Sid
I love that explanation. I don't. I don't have anything to add. I think with that, just. Best of luck, Mike. I hope they. I hope you make it to. To covering the W and I hope
Tara
you have a good commencement speaker. And most importantly, I hope you have a really good commencement speaker. Like. Like, that's not important, like, at all. But. No, but thank you for writing in.
Sid
That is funny.
Tara
We.
Sid
Yeah, thank you. We appreciate it.
Tara
And also thank you, everybody, for writing in. We can't get to everybody. We do one at a time, so give us a break. Hopefully we get to you guys eventually. But this was. This was a good episode, Sid.
Sid
It was. Yeah, it was great chat.
Tara
Nice chatting with you, y'.
Sid
All. Just a little. A little heads up. We will be covering the documentary the crash next episode. We're excited. We're watching.
Tara
Watching it tonight, so. So y' all also watch it tonight?
Sid
No, that's coming. Yeah, just watch it. Yeah. Y' all know what to do. If you have anything that you want to say to us. Advice you want to give, advice you want us to give you. If you got drama you want us in or you got topics you want to hear us talk about. DM us at unsupervised ctp.
Tara
And as always, you guys, don't forget to throw kindness around like confetti.
Sid
And on top of that, thank you
Tara
guys so much for all the social love. I saw the video today for my birthday, and it was the sweetest thing in the world. Our fans are the absolute best. And thank you guys so much for thinking of me today and making those videos. I was like, ugly crying to you guys. Videos.
Sid
Yeah, the team put that together.
Tara
Thank you, everybody. And together that made this all happen for me. It was a very special day and I thank you, Kati, Lynette, Karina, Kelsey, whoever else was involved with this. Thank you guys so much, Sid.
Sid
And also, damn that third string, Ben.
Tara
You're used to it. Thank you so much, Sid. I guess I'll be. I'll be.
Sid
Yeah, I'll see you for your yuty. Well, I mean, I'll see you before that. Love you. Love y'. All.
Tierra Wax
Unsupervised. Unsupervised. Yeah. Yes.
Sid
Yes.
Tierra Wax
Okay. We say what we want and yeah, we say what we feel. Sitting tmp of the mix and they be keeping it real on brand, off topic, out of pocket. Anything you need, they got it. Why don't you shout we know they gonna block it when it's game time and you know I'm gonna block them? And we cover everything like who harder than us? And yeah, we looking down on haters? Cause they smaller than us and yeah, my boy flow is so damn sick I be coughing it up? You said that we going flat? Well then I'm calling your blood unsupervised. Unsupervised. Unsupervised.
Tara
Un.
Sid
Sam.
