Kelsey Plum
We back.
Sidney Spencer
We in this beat. What about celebrated, like by throwing water on you, though, like just taking sports stuff to real life when I'm excited.
Kelsey Plum
We like right now also, Sid, it's not your birthday right now, but happy future birthday. I did something special for you. I didn't. It's been quite the day.
Sidney Spencer
That's okay. You recorded this. And on my birthday, the episode will drop. So you just being here as a
Kelsey Plum
gift from the top, make it drop anyway.
Unsupervised Rapper
Unsupervised. Unsupervised. Unsupervised. Yeah, yeah, yeah we say what we want and yeah, we say what we feel Sitting tmp of the mix and they be keeping you real on brand, off topic, out of pocket anything you need they got it why don't you shout when you know they gonna block up? When it's game time and you know, cover everything? Like harder than us and yeah we looking down on haters Cause they smaller than us and yeah my flow is so damn sick I be coughing it up. You said that we going flat. Well then I'm calling your blood.
Kelsey Plum
It's good to be here, though.
Sidney Spencer
So good to be here. You just made it.
Kelsey Plum
I literally just made it. And I don't know if you've ever traveled with a dog. It's hard. You have to, like, press your knees in the whole time so she doesn't, like, fall in between your legs. Like, it's. Do you know how hard it is to, like, close your legs? Because what? It's. You.
Sidney Spencer
Okay.
Kelsey Plum
Anyway, I feel like I did something super wild today on the airplane.
Sidney Spencer
What? You slept with. I imagine that you stuff.
Kelsey Plum
Imagine. I'm like, hey, is this the bathroom? Oops. It's the cockpit. Just kidding. We did meet that one lady pilot, though. Shout out to her.
Sidney Spencer
We did.
Kelsey Plum
I took a picture with her. She was nice. I'm about to. Actually, I'm about to add the picture.
Sidney Spencer
What if she's, like, a wanted woman? That would be crazy.
Kelsey Plum
I think her name was Jesse.
Sidney Spencer
That sounds wanted. I could see. I could see the thing on TV now. And it's Jesse. Jesse Winters. Was that her name? No, I don't think so. But that's. I could see.
Kelsey Plum
So creepy if that's her name. So this is a little special spoiler alert. Because it was also a spoiler alert for me. So I got on an airplane and I didn't prepare. It's just really hectic traveling with the dog. And so when I got on the plane, everything was. Leave her at the airport. No. When I got to the plane. I got settled in not comfortably and opened up my iPad and everything was expired besides one thing, and that was the documentary called Shipwrecked Nightmare at Sea.
Sidney Spencer
And it's been out, right.
Kelsey Plum
It's been out for some time and I added it to my list. But if anybody doesn't know, let me just. Shipwrecked is about a cruise ship that crashed into a rock on the coast of Italy and capsized. And as I'm watching this on an airplane, it made me question like, if I'm, if I'm okay. Like, am I okay? I'm watching a catastrophe happen at sea while I'm actively in the air flying over water. Yeah. I'm like. But I couldn't like stop because I'm like, if I started it in my head, I was like, I can't be a punk. Like, I have to finish this. I have to see this through.
Sidney Spencer
If you were, if you were meant to go that way, you're going to go that way.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
Regardless of what you're watching, it is probably giving yourself unnecessary like anxiety.
Kelsey Plum
It was so crazy in the moment.
Sidney Spencer
But I've watched stuff like that on a plane.
Kelsey Plum
It was so wild because like in Shipwrecked you there's like four or five different people that are interviewed and there's actual footage from like the, inside the boat when it was happening.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
But every person that they interview have, has such a different like lived story about how they got off the boat.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
Like this One girl was 19, her mom was turning 50 on the boat. The day that the boat went down, like another. Are you going to watch it?
Sidney Spencer
I think I started to.
Kelsey Plum
It's crazy. Like this other person was on the top side of the boat and when they got into the lifeboat, they thought like, oh, I'm safe. The lifeboat couldn't drop because of how far the boat was tilted. Like it was at a certain degree where the boat couldn't go down into the water, was just hitting the ship so it couldn't and got stuck. So they had to like climb through a latch at the top of the safety boat to get back on the sinking boat to then find a separate with a one year old child. Like everybody's lived experience. Like these people like start crying. Like just thinking back to like what
Sidney Spencer
they lived through, that trauma you'll never get, get over. Like I would never get on a boat again.
Kelsey Plum
There's no way. Because also it was like in January in the Mediterranean. Like the water was cold. It was very like Titanic, as one girl even said. Like her boyfriend was like, they walked on the pool balcony like at night time, like minutes before it happened. And she was like, my boyfriend said something and that's just a thought that you let enter and pass just as quick. And he was like, this is feeling kind of like the Titanic. And she was like, I never acknowledged the thought. I just heard it, it happened. And I wanted to move past that thought as quickly as possible. And she was like, within minutes you just hear vibrations of. And then scratching, turning to shrieking. And it was like, yeah, yeah, I can't even imagine. And also, you know, boat sounds like you. I don't know if you watch Titanic, but like the like, like the eerie noises of a boat and like underw. Like that would just creep me out. Yeah, that actually watching these people just in a separate mode of transportation was scaring me. Like I don't like to fly, just generally, but feeling their fear and like watching them relive these moments and like say exactly what happened. Like this one guy was, was on the life raft that was on the top side of the boat and they had to escape that. And then he said there was like this big corridor that he just. It was 200ft and he just said the only way to go you couldn't walk. It was too sleep steep. You had to slide.
Sidney Spencer
Oh gosh.
Kelsey Plum
They said, he said they were sliding 20 miles an hour down to get to a spot where they could actually get on a separate lifeboat on the sinking side of the ship.
Sidney Spencer
That also tells you how big these ships are. They're huge. Huge for a human to be falling for that long at that speed.
Kelsey Plum
At that speed. 20 miles an hour. Like that's so. I like can't even. Like that's so that's really fast to
Sidney Spencer
be sliding on your back.
Kelsey Plum
But that was like probably like really wild energy coming from me on this plane.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, you should have just tried to go to sleep, girl.
Kelsey Plum
I couldn't.
Sidney Spencer
You were stressed the whole time.
Kelsey Plum
I was super stressed. Also pinching your legs together so your dog doesn't fall through your legs too. I'm like my anxiety was at an all time high. But don't worry, I just sweated my way through that flight. Did well.
Sidney Spencer
Okay. I, I had a. Not a crazy story like that, but I had a cool thing happen over what Last week. What day, what day is today? Monday. Monday.
Kelsey Plum
Okay, what happened last week, Sid?
Sidney Spencer
Or was it over the weekend? It was a weekend. What are days? You ever feel like you, you get asked on a Monday what you did over the Weekend, you immediately go blank.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
I'm like, why are you thinking about the past?
Kelsey Plum
I was convincing everybody that it was Friday, and I'm like, I leave tomorrow, y'.
Unsupervised Rapper
All.
Kelsey Plum
And they were like, it's Thursday. And I'm like, shut up. It's not.
Unsupervised Rapper
It was.
Kelsey Plum
I hate that.
Sidney Spencer
I know, but. So I did the what game was first WMA on Prime. We had a doubleheader. Oh, I'm drawing a blank one.
Kelsey Plum
He got the best move prime ever made. Oh, my God.
Sidney Spencer
So, you know, I'm gonna be like, never mind. I was about to say, because, you know, I've told you my grandma had dementia. I'm like, if I've, like, early signs, they bring me on as an analyst. If I can't remember, they're like, just let her talk.
Kelsey Plum
You just keep bringing up the one fact over and over again. The only thing that you ever bring to Amazon prime is the fact that, like, one time, Asia had 53 points. That's the only thing that you ever touch on. We're like, hey, this is the tempo versus the Liberty.
Sidney Spencer
I'm stuck on the comments. They're like, just let her ramble. She's saying they're coming back. We're like, whoa. Okay. So it was cool, is what I was gonna say. I used to want to do, what color commentating when I was. When I was coming out of school, when I was in college, maybe, like, junior senior year when I was figuring out if I wanted to do color commentating. Like, Lachina was so helpful and nice. Raz got a Woody Angel Gray, which we're the same year. But just when she was still continuing to do it. Yeah, there just been a lot of people who were, you know, like, helpful back then when I was figuring out. And then obviously, I just, like, kept playing and would go overseas. And then the acting stuff started, so I was kind of just like, oh, man. Like, I guess, you know, I'm not gonna do it. But people kept, like, asking me over the past, like, two years.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
And I was just like, okay. Well, I guess, you know, my mom would say. Marty would say that, like, just because you're wanting to pursue something else doesn't mean you can't do something else in the. In the meantime. Like, you can do it. You're not about to go act and just book everything. You'll have time to do stuff. You may book nothing.
Kelsey Plum
There's other days of the week where you can.
Sidney Spencer
And it was almost like they were looking at me like, you don't have to Give that up. You. That could still be a thing. I was like, okay, so when don't
Kelsey Plum
put all your eggs in one basket
Sidney Spencer
saying that. To say once. Once. I like made my mind up to. To start doing it again. I was. I was like, oh, yeah, well, this is going to be fun. I did used to want to do this. I gone on thread, I went on threads and I asked people. I was like, all right, what do I. Tell me something to like slide in the conversation when I go on air. Like, and I'm gonna pick the funniest thing or just the thing I like the most or what could be the most challenging. Maybe I'll move to that. Give me something challenging to have to. To fit into the conversation. But they chose plus plus plus because of DJs tweet. Yeah, it was hilarious. I thought it was hilarious. So of course I went and was talking about Melissa. And I mean, I broke this down to levels of pettiness where I do believe Melissa is.
Kelsey Plum
You were 100% accurate. There was a joke in there, but you were also 100% accurate.
Sidney Spencer
I'm like, yeah, she is an important part of that piece, no matter how good the other players on the team are. Yeah. So I made that. I told them in like the pre meeting, like for the show. I was just like, yeah, like they just happen to ask, who is somebody that you want to feature? Like for the Aces? I was like, oh, this is perfect. I could have featured anybody. But I do believe in this and I do have a joke and I want to make it some double whammy. Whammy. So once they were telling me what I had to do. So once the clip started rolling, I was just like, okay, I need to fit this in in here. So very funny. I'll just keep asking people that. But probably my favorite thread that I did recently, I went on when BG's news broke about the divorce.
Kelsey Plum
I went ins.
Sidney Spencer
Mind you, there was no fudgeing reason for me to go say this because nobody was thinking it.
Kelsey Plum
What'd you say?
Sidney Spencer
I want you to read it in your voice.
Kelsey Plum
I didn't sleep with bg. Let me just say that now. So that's. That sounds like something that someone who did sleep with BG would say.
Sidney Spencer
Oh, you got me.
Kelsey Plum
Just to clear things up, I do still need to make my threads account, but I also didn't sleep with BG or Melissa. I'm just gonna be honest. Plus plus more are people I have not slept with. But I do have a question about your prime.
Sidney Spencer
Please.
Kelsey Plum
You Got Jackie on the interview. You asked her the question that we were all thinking. Who you texting on your phone? We all want to know. Jackie sitting there stumbling. My question to you is, why didn't you let her answer? You just went on with the show. I know there's time restraints and stuff, but we were all locked in.
Sidney Spencer
Like, so y' all feel like in a situation anyways that somebody would tell y' all the truth in that? I just want texting who you wanted them to be texting. You think somebody would say it on air anyway? So I was just like, I'm gonna just ask it and move on. We gotta chat about something else going on. I know you saw Cheryl was wearing what Chan Trans kids belong. Or what did it say? Yeah, trans kids belong. They were playing indie. So this moment takes us back to us meeting that big titty dude in Indianapolis with the protect women's sports. Yeah. Save women's sports shirt. The stupidity of this whole movement is mind boggling. Really and truly. When we talk about trans, trans men, boys being in women's girls sports or not, like, being left out of.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
You know, or acting like they're about to just overrun it and your opportunities will be gone. Or just creating a. In a problem when there isn't one. An enemy when there isn't one for sure.
Kelsey Plum
And also, like, Cheryl has always been a part of a team that's been at the forefront of any kind of, like, advocacy. Like, the Minnesota Links were the first to speak up against police brutality. This was in 2016, I want to say, or 2015. The first ones to do it. The Links actually took a. Or didn't take a fine because the league was trying to implement a certain shirt to be worn and they wanted to wear a shirt to protest police brutality. And the league said no. And if you do wear this shirt, you'll be fined. So instead they flipped the street. The league given shirt inside out so that they legally had on the correct shirt, but it was in protest to police brutality. And also they had a press conference afterwards where they had, I think all five of their starters speak. Really great work. And Cheryl's good for wearing a T shirt.
Sidney Spencer
Mm.
Kelsey Plum
You see her rockin Olivia Miles. You also see her supporting different causes that she supports. And for Cheryl, like, I just think that having having someone on this stage in the W as a trans kid, a trans person, and having someone represent you and see that you're loved visibly, not just verbally, it's very easy for me to say, like, yes, I accept you as a trans person. But for me to also put myself in support of you visibly is something really important, really valuable. And I really applaud Cheryl for this. And also, she was quoted afterwards about having a conversation with Sophie about just like, being a good person and like, what that means. And like, as long as you're a good person, like, everything else can. Can kind of flow. And I think that's what we're getting at is just like being a good person, being an accepting person, being a loving person.
Sidney Spencer
That's what. And that's what this league has always been about.
Kelsey Plum
Exactly.
Sidney Spencer
But if you pay attention, our league is slowly more. Look, when more money comes, less speaking up for stuff starts to happen. We were a league built on speaking up, protesting, talking about things that were wrong, not worrying about consequences of said actions. Because actually we did things all together as a league. And let me remind you, it was about 75 to 80% Black Woman League at this time. When these things were going on, we spoke out about what was problematic. Right. And this was when not as many people were paying attention to the WNBA or even caring as much. But it didn't matter because we were going to say what we had to say. And if we pay attention, like, I can bring this back to statistically, in America. In America, when you're listening, how many. The 92% black women that did not vote for Trump. The 92%. It's not coincidental in our league, in this league, in my mind. And this is how people need to look at it. If we have a league that was built on black women and we still have a league that is still majority black women, if black queer women are not excluding people from shit, then none of us are.
Kelsey Plum
Absolutely
Emily (Emma Lou)
is.
Sidney Spencer
Then none of us are. Or we can. Or what we can do. Let's have separate but equal. Then let's have two separate leagues. Let's have leagues that are people. People are accepting of everyone. And then let's have another league where y' all want it a certain way and you want the. The let's. Okay.
Kelsey Plum
Wear Dr. You can churn butter when you're done.
Sidney Spencer
I can't wait to.
Kelsey Plum
I think I'm gonna go to the Black Queer League. Honestly, I hope there's a spot for me. Thank you.
Sidney Spencer
Bring your cousin on, man, because I can't fool with you.
Kelsey Plum
So with all that being said, we do have a very special guest today.
Sidney Spencer
Yes, we do.
Kelsey Plum
To me, she's my cousin Emily. She's amazing. She's the most beautiful spirit in the world. And to Everybody else, she's a professor, she's a coach, she's a trans advocate. She has put her life's work and passion behind gender equality and more specifically transgender just acceptance and. And written legislative and the problems within it. And she did her whole thesis and. And everything on this. So without further ado, my cousin Emily.
Sidney Spencer
Ah, what's up?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Hello, hello, hello.
Kelsey Plum
Hey, Emma Lou.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Thanks for having me on. I'm excited. I am.
Kelsey Plum
We love having you on.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, we're so excited too.
Kelsey Plum
You are a doctor. You are all these incredible things. You've been in school for pretty much your whole life, and you've been studying everything. But why has this. This subject of, you know, trans women and trans people in sport generally have been a passion project of yours? And why have you tried to pursue your education around, you know, understanding this demographic?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yeah, it's a good question. Well, I was. I originally went to school to. For strength and conditioning, so I got a kinesiology degree and then worked as like a personal trainer, strength coach, and lots of different things. Were you taking t. I was not taking tea.
Sidney Spencer
Like, what an inappropriate.
Emily (Emma Lou)
No peeds for me. So, yeah, I was in lots of different spaces and I went to get my master's degree in strength and conditioning, and I was working in college strength rooms. And I really felt a calling to pivot my research and my studies towards gender inequity. And at that time, I really wanted to study, like, gender inequality, like, inequitable practices in the strength room. Like, what can we observe or what have we observed? But when I went into doctoral school, that was when really, like, the rise of anti trans. I shouldn't say the rise. When it really started to intensify in, like, US Discourse, us like state legislation. So, you know, those of us that, what year I started my doctoral program in 2020, which was the first bill to pass, and the rhetoric started getting more intense, a lot more volume and more violent in the sport space. And so I really, like, it felt very important to kind of pivot towards that. And, you know, I was having discussions in classes with other strength coaches that like, literally didn't understand what trans people were, who, like, who they were, what that meant, what the biological implications were and. Or like the performance implications were. So I found it really frustrating to be in that space. And so I felt like, okay, so I want to pivot and really study this and potentially make impact for trans athletes. So that's what I decided to study and do my work with and, you know, doctoral school. So that's what I did in my. My dissertation was studying specifically the language of the bills themselves. So not even really looking too much into, like, how people were talking about it outside the bills, but looking at the literal words, the language in the bill itself, and saying, okay, so how are they framing the problem? How are they framing the solution? And that's where you really see a lot of the just misinformation, disinformation around the science, the social implications around trans inclusion.
Unsupervised Rapper
What is the.
Sidney Spencer
What is the. The framing of it besides just their complete, like, Right. Fair monitoring?
Emily (Emma Lou)
And the framing is. Yeah, the framing is, first and foremost, they want to create safe and fair spaces for women and girls in sport.
Sidney Spencer
And then they really want to. Thank God they're doing it in, like, outside of sport. I doubt they want to do it in sport.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Right. So if they frame well, we want these safe and fair spaces in sport. And therefore, to do that, we have to ensure that there is a very strict separation between what they would say, biological men and biological women. So therefore, the framing is. The problem is they're problematizing what we would call. They are making trans people the problem. So their existence in these spaces are problematic and therefore pose a threat to fairness and safety. So you'll notice a lot of their rhetoric is like. They'll just say, like, we want to keep locker room safe.
Sidney Spencer
And it's like, it's so crazy because I'm in locker room, so if anything, I'm unsafe for sure.
Kelsey Plum
But we're fearful of trip. Like, you're more. I've been playing sport my entire life. I'm now 34 years old. Um, and I have been in a ton of locker rooms and not just basketball. I played. I played every sport pretty much. And I have come across zero trans people.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
In my locker room space.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah. And you played overseas. Like, we played professionally overseas.
Kelsey Plum
Multiple countries.
Sidney Spencer
Right.
Kelsey Plum
And all these things. And while, like, we are framing this legislation. Legislation and rhetoric behind trans people, I'm like, you're more likely to get shot or are great. What do you have to do for the Internet?
Sidney Spencer
You're so. You're much more likely to get, like, almost anything else done.
Kelsey Plum
Anything.
Sidney Spencer
Anything else happen.
Kelsey Plum
Because we're talking about less than 1% of the US population is.
Sidney Spencer
I wonder if I'm more likely to win the lottery.
Kelsey Plum
Very, very valid. There's more people outside of Seattle protesting the games than I've seen actually in the space that I've played in sport.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
But, Emily, what do you think is, like, the most. I know there's Probably a ton. But, like, what's the most shocking, like, digestible stat of, like, the trans community in. Within sport that, like, you can recall?
Emily (Emma Lou)
You mean, like, statistics as is. As in, like, why it's not necessary?
Kelsey Plum
Yes.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Well, one. Okay, I'll say three. Yeah, I'll say three at the top of my head. One is, you know, a big thing with. When there was this huge proliferation, like, suddenly, like, 20 states have these bills where so many state legislatures or governors, like, literally couldn't name a trans athlete in their seat. And so they're claiming it to be preventative. But if it's never happened in your, like, what are we preventing? So you're sort of inventing. It's this, like, amorphous issue of violence or unfairness that you're creating this imagery and this, like, fake situation when it. It's. It's not a problem.
Sidney Spencer
Almost like they're eating the dogs or they're taking our jobs.
Unsupervised Rapper
Yeah.
Emily (Emma Lou)
So it's placing blame and a lot of. With that, you know, they're taking away opportunities. In particular, they always, like, name scholarships. It's like, well, there's no trans athletes in your state, but they're taking away scholarships. And when you look at those statistics, like, in the ncaa, men receive millions more dollars in scholarships. Like, literally millions. And when we look at Title IX compliance, almost no schools comply with Title ix. They make it out Title IX to be this big enemy, and then they want to employ Title IX for their own benefit, like, for their own argument. But, like, no one's adhering to Title IX because there's no real consequence to not adhering to Title ix. So they'll say, okay, so you just have to prove that you're trying. Are you trying really hard? That literally they have to just say,
Kelsey Plum
and if you can answer honestly, yes, then you're good.
Sidney Spencer
Then you're good.
Emily (Emma Lou)
So, like, schools are just egregiously, you know, misrepresenting rosters and misrepresenting scholarship funds and, you know, just manipulating numbers so that they don't have to uplift women sports in college spaces. And then I think the third one, I guess the word testosterone is used in this way. That's like. It's so bizarre to me. It has been for years, as if testosterone was, like, the one indicator of sport performance, which is. It's just like a bizarre thing because, like, everyone has testosterone in their bodies. Everyone has estrogen in their bodies. And to sort of suggest that, like, testosterone,
Kelsey Plum
not him, he took out all the estrogen and those tits of never look bigger dropped water.
Emily (Emma Lou)
So. But yeah, I would say like the, the employment of like trying to suggest that like some sort of testosterone measure is like the measure of athletic potential.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, like it's, it's nuts.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Is not, you know, and most of the studies that are cited are usually done in elite athletes with elite pools of athletes, like usually track. Track and field. But these, this legislative, these bills are mostly impacting K through 12. Like, why are we using statistics on elite athletes to, to, you know, police children?
Kelsey Plum
But this is the thing that really irritates me though. I think in Washington state, this happened a couple of weeks ago. They just passed a law talking about every girl has to go through
Sidney Spencer
this
Kelsey Plum
test, some kind of test where you have to expose your genitals. And so when I was a kid growing up, if, if I was to expose my genitals to anybody, yeah, my dad would have killed them.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah. 100.
Kelsey Plum
My dad would have murdered them. And I would have never played sport in my life.
Sidney Spencer
Hello. This is like, when I saw that, I was like, this is an end for them to also be weird because a lot of them, as we see, like, because a bigger problem than trans women in sports, if we really care about girls and children. And children, then we would be complaining and revolting because a pedophile is the president and a lot of his friends and we see that they've, they've sexually assaulted, harassed and raped women and girls. So I'm like, if we're really in the business of protecting girls, we just care about the girls, the girls are important. Then why are we trying to look at the girls private parts? What's, what are we, what are we gaining from that anyways? Because if somebody. I won't even go on that ramp. But like, what, what are we gaining from?
Kelsey Plum
There's nothing, there's nothing to gain. You're just traumatizing girls and getting anyone to go through that process, then you're going to deter them from actually playing sport.
Sidney Spencer
And then they're getting titillated at the same time because these people are freaks. They're freaks and they're dumb.
Emily (Emma Lou)
There's a really significant historical precedence with that. Like back in early 1900s, right. 1910s, 1920s, women were required. They called them new parades. They had to go in front of a panel of physicians and show their genitalia. And this was like this effort to prevent imposters from playing. It never revealed an imposter. It didn't. It never happened. It was humiliating. It. It kept women out of sport because they were like, well, I'm not doing that. And it kept intersex people out of sport, because intersex people have a lot of variations with the way their genitalia may present, their bodies may, you know, look and be shaped. And so it was just in totally inaccurate and inhumane way of assessing biological sex and gender. It also conflates sex and gender.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Emily (Emma Lou)
In ways that are really dangerous and not useful. So it's really, really. It is a. You know, because we can scan out, like, this sport, this isn't in a vacuum. There's a much larger effort to keep queer people in general out of public spaces, you know, out of bathrooms, out of libraries, out of our books, out of classrooms.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Emily (Emma Lou)
And this is just another effort.
Sidney Spencer
I've never. I've never had a prop, A tran. An interaction with a trans person in a bathroom, but I have seen men in a women's bathroom.
Kelsey Plum
Or I get harassed every time I go into a women's bathroom.
Sidney Spencer
So I'm just like, it's. It's men. A lot of that are actually doing the real assaulting inside of bathrooms. But once again, we're creating this fake
Kelsey Plum
problem, hysteric hysteria, like, also, like, I'm not. I'm not a trans person, so I don't understand, like, what that struggle feels like or how hard it must be to feel like you're in a body that's not yours. And everything else that goes along with being trans and to actually follow through with that is so brave and so courageous, especially in the face of knowing that, like, some people will never be able to see you or accept you for who you are, which is a disservice to them. That has nothing to do with who you are as a trans person. And I'm like, people still have a problem with it. And it's almost like when people don't want other people to live their lives, whether that's. They don't want them to be gay, they don't want them to be trans. That's like being, like, on a diet. And I'm like, hey, no one's allowed to eat donuts next week. I'm starting because I'm not doing it. Everybody else. You also have to do this. And, like, it's just a big problem that people can't stay in their own lane.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
Mind their own. What's the obsession for that other people are actually living their truth and living their freest self, even in the face of everything that's ugly that the other side is bringing to them. Like, these are like, some of the bravest people in the world, in my opinion, they are. And like, it just so sad that they can't really, like, live their life.
Sidney Spencer
Well, I think a lot of these people, at the root of all of it, like capitalism is. Is the big problem, because we talked about being able to keep somebody down. Like, white supremacy is another level. Patriarchy is another. All of these things exist to keep somebody feeling, like, the lowest and somebody unimportant. You think about, you know, if I just think about my own situation, me not coming out, why was I ever not fully being who I was out? Like, I consider myself a very good person. I treat people the way people should be treated. Like the mantras that we learn as young kids. I'm like, yeah, I try to do those in my life. So why should there ever have been a thing about myself that I was like, no, I'm not going. Like, I'm not gonna share that yet. Like, I don't. So you imagine just me, a lesbian, feeling like that. Now take it a step further. If people see how, like, you know, like, just gay or lesbian people are treated and what you have to deal with, with the homophobia, you're even more scared to come out as a trans person. Because now you're saying not just that you like the same sex, but I feel like I was born the incorrect gender. I don't agree with what was assigned to me at birth. Like, this isn't right. So just that thought process. To think that a person struggling with even saying that they're trans will want to then subject themselves to even more hate and. And violence and all these other things just to play women's sports. There's not going to be a large number of them. I would imagine there might be a trans athlete out there. That is just phenomenal. And we may never see them because they will never be able try. They won't even try because they know of the hate that they'll. They'll get.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
You know what I'm saying? Like, so to. To act like this number is so big that we should be worried about, when really if you just use common sense to say, yeah, most people try to just avoid being killed, so I doubt they would share a thing that they could maybe hide. Like, it's really the common sense they
Emily (Emma Lou)
talk about is, it's not. It's not my thing. Yeah, yeah, it's definitely a point because you're either. You're posed with the, am I either going to be authentically myself and not play sports or am I going to hide who I am or suppress who I am and so that I can play sport. So either way, you're not being you, are you, you're, you're removing that visual queerness from those faces. And like, you know, homophobia, transphobia is very persistent in sports still. That's the underlining theory. That's the underlining belief system is that there's only two sexes. There's only two genders. Your gender is prescribed based on the sex that you were assigned at birth. So it gives them this don't confuse, don't confuse. It gives people this world view that they would have to literally reshape their worldview. And that's a really challenging and hard thing because it's so indebted, it's so interwoven into who they are, which is why people take it so personally.
Sidney Spencer
But that's also why, that's also why it's helpful to this government right now for the rise of anti intellectualism to be so high. Because you can only spread propaganda to people who are stupid thinking people, people
Kelsey Plum
who are willing and able to leave
Sidney Spencer
it, People who know how to open a book and do research and read are not subjected to things that are built so clearly on hate. Like there's no, it's hate disdain. It's not wanting people to be liberated. When you go and look at what these people are actually saying and what they believe is some of the kooky is dumbest shit you've ever heard in your life, you're like, I could just go show you something.
Kelsey Plum
And like, we don't even need to get to the second paragraph before this can be explained.
Sidney Spencer
This is debunked. Just really off your third sentence. Yeah, I was, I'm shocked that it happened this early. I thought you were gonna have a little, you know, I was gonna have to go a little deeper into it, but yeah, third sentence, we're gone. You know what I'm saying?
Emily (Emma Lou)
So introducing humanity in it, like has, have these people ever met a trans person? They're just once you. When you know, trans, like any, anybody with any sort of identity that is, you know, non normative. It's like, oh, this is just a person that's just like one part of who that they still go grocery shopping, they do their laundry, they're just trying to pay their bills probably, you know, like it's not, I don't know, it's not this underground secret way of living, you know.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, but they don't. But they know that and that's why I am all for. With these politicians. Out them. Out them. No, seriously. People are like, oh, no outing is bad. That's not right to do.
Kelsey Plum
No.
Sidney Spencer
But when you're taking somebody's rights away and you don't care about the violence that comes upon people for simply being themselves, y' all are sleeping with those.
Kelsey Plum
But you're on.
Sidney Spencer
Y' all are sleeping with them a lot of the times. Like, what? They're on social media talking about it sometimes. Or y' all are caught. The text messages come out. Grindr. Things are leaked.
Kelsey Plum
Pictures with you with breasts in a V neck. Come on. A V neck? Nobody has worn a V neck since I was six. Like, maybe you have breasts, but you need a stylist too, sweetheart. You're dead now, so it's not gonna
Sidney Spencer
help, but you know what I'm saying? And it's like, if that's what you like to do, you're grown and that's actually fine. And if your wife is into it, then y' all just even better. Y' all like that.
Kelsey Plum
But stop affecting other people's lives.
Sidney Spencer
Stop trying. Stop passing laws that are taking away people's livelihood, their. Their insurance, possibly their life.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
So I think keep out. No, I think.
Kelsey Plum
I think the way that we can wrap up this conversation, and the Christians really like this one, but honestly, let's start living by it, you guys, and, like, let's treat others the way that you would like to be treated. And let's start with the people that are spreading all this hate and rhetoric. Emily, thank you so much for coming on.
Sidney Spencer
Thanks, Emmy Lou.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
It was nice to meet you and talk to you.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Thanks.
Sidney Spencer
This was really. Hopefully.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I have a stack of books here if anyone. This one, very good. Oh, said testosterone.
Sidney Spencer
Oh, Sid.
Emily (Emma Lou)
This one is, like, debunking a lot of the biomedical claims.
Kelsey Plum
Okay.
Sidney Spencer
Okay.
Kelsey Plum
Who writes that one? Testosterone by who?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Oh, yeah, our audio, Rebecca Jordan Young and Katrina Kirk. I don't know how to say her. Their last name.
Kelsey Plum
No, that's okay.
Sidney Spencer
They should be able to figure it out.
Unsupervised Rapper
Yeah.
Emily (Emma Lou)
This one, excellent.
Sidney Spencer
Sporting sport. Sporting gender. Who's that by?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Johanna Harper.
Sidney Spencer
Okay.
Emily (Emma Lou)
And then these are more, like, journalistic.
Sidney Spencer
Okay. Up to speed.
Emily (Emma Lou)
This one's good. This is about how, like, women are excluded from science. So, like, how do we even really know what you're like? You're making these claims about averages and elite sports when, like, we really haven't studied women.
Sidney Spencer
We haven't been studied. Who's it by?
Emily (Emma Lou)
This one, Christine Yu, who I think is an ESPN writer.
Sidney Spencer
Okay.
Emily (Emma Lou)
One of them is. I don't know.
Sidney Spencer
Okay.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Fair play. Also really good. But if you're just generally interested about trans youth, this one's really excellent. Trans kids and teens, there's a lot of misinformation about gender affirming care. Generally. Gender affirming care is just like using the pronouns in the name that a person wants you to use. It's not usually, like, a ton of actual medical intervention, especially when they're kids and teens. So this is, like, a really excellent resource. It is a thicker book, and it's a little bit more academic, but kids and teens buy.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah. Who's that one by?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Elijah Neely.
Sidney Spencer
Okay, awesome. Thank you for these resources.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
We enjoyed having you on.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yeah, this was fun.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, it was super informative.
Kelsey Plum
Emily, if you'd like to stick around, we're gonna play a fruit game.
Sidney Spencer
All right. We're gonna give our top three favorite fruits, and then we're gonna have about. Then we're gonna play a game to
Kelsey Plum
battle also, just so everyone knows, this is, like, if every fruit were at its, like, best state, like, for sure.
Unsupervised Rapper
Okay.
Sidney Spencer
The best.
Kelsey Plum
So the best.
Sidney Spencer
This is about a rotten fruit in your life.
Kelsey Plum
Some fruits, like if, for example, a peach. Yeah, a great peach is up there for me. But you can have a really bad peach. Like a crunchy, hard where you, like, bite into it. Feels like a tennis ball. You're like, like, is this a peach?
Sidney Spencer
That's why you gotta feel the outside to make sure. Is this a beach? It's a nectarine, probably. But then it's still too hard.
Unsupervised Rapper
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
Anyway.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah. So in his best state, like. Yeah. What? All right. Like, Emily.
Unsupervised Rapper
What?
Sidney Spencer
Get her. No, y', all, I just want to say this is when the fruit is not rotten.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Right.
Kelsey Plum
When it's edible, it's not run.
Sidney Spencer
All right, this one, we got to make sure we're looking at the camera for Emily. All right? So. All right. My, my.
Kelsey Plum
Give your top three. Top one. Everyone do one.
Sidney Spencer
No, I'm gonna do all my three.
Kelsey Plum
Okay, then do three.
Sidney Spencer
All right. Strawberry.
Kelsey Plum
Okay.
Sidney Spencer
Watermelon. Kiwi.
Kelsey Plum
Emily, would you like to go peaches?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Mango, Strawberry.
Sidney Spencer
That's a good one.
Kelsey Plum
That is a good one. I respect you.
Sidney Spencer
Okay. You didn't say after mine. Why had I respect you after the second person?
Kelsey Plum
Watermelon's my top fruit.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yeah, Watermelon was a top four.
Kelsey Plum
Top tier.
Emily (Emma Lou)
It was close.
Sidney Spencer
Top four.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
I love.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah, there's some that are mentioned because I feel like peach would be honorable mention for me.
Sidney Spencer
Okay.
Kelsey Plum
But I do think that Blackberries and mangoes would make my top.
Sidney Spencer
See, my fourth is probably a plum cut. And just the perfect one, a cute little like it. And you bite it, and it's just, like, soft and sweet how it should be. And you're like, this. This is my. Like, if I were to be erotic about a piece of fruit, this one is definitely going to be in the mix.
Kelsey Plum
A plum quad.
Sidney Spencer
If I had to. Okay, pick a fruit. If you had to spend your life, like, married to a fruit.
Kelsey Plum
A watermelon.
Sidney Spencer
A watermelon.
Kelsey Plum
It gives me everything I need.
Sidney Spencer
Okay. All right. What's yours? What would you be?
Emily (Emma Lou)
They're gonna start banning fruits from the locker room.
Kelsey Plum
Well, they already are.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I know.
Sidney Spencer
Okay.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Married to a fruit.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, like, you have to spend.
Kelsey Plum
Hypothetically speaking. Like, you don't have to do it.
Emily (Emma Lou)
This is actually.
Kelsey Plum
It's probably legal in more states than to marry someone the same.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I mean, I guess a peach. But peaches, like, okay. Are only, like, good for a short time a year.
Sidney Spencer
So we're only talking about so big.
Kelsey Plum
And that's why we're only talking about the fruit in the its best state.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Okay, then a piece.
Kelsey Plum
You don't have to worry about it, because also honorable mention for me would be a pear. Sometimes you can have a pear, and it feels like a racquetball.
Sidney Spencer
A pair is just so, like, kind of pears. I can't believe.
Kelsey Plum
I know. I really like pears.
Sidney Spencer
All right, all right. They said kiss Mary Kill fruits edition. I love it. All right, y'. All. Apple, banana, watermelon.
Kelsey Plum
I'm have to kill banana.
Sidney Spencer
I'm off the bat. Sorry.
Kelsey Plum
Banana. I actually like bananas a lot. But if I have to deal with this forever, I want to kiss an apple.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
I feel like there's less soft. Like, you can have a soft banana. More times you have, like, an off apple. And I feel like more times than not a banana can go wrong with the kiss than an apple. So I'm kissing. I'm kissing the shot of that apple. Okay. And then I'm gonna marry a watermelon because I can't do that was always the plan. All right, what about y'? All?
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, What? Give. Give yours, Emily, if you want to follow that.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I'm gonna marry a watermelon. Yeah, I think I'm gonna kiss a banana.
Kelsey Plum
Oh, no, that makes sense for you.
Emily (Emma Lou)
And I guess that means kill an apple.
Kelsey Plum
Oh, I don't mind apples.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I enjoy them. But, you know.
Sidney Spencer
Damn. All right, well, what about you? I was about to say y' all are More black than me. Because I think I'm gonna. I'm gonna marry. I'm gonna marry the strawberry.
Kelsey Plum
The straw. There was no strawberry involved.
Sidney Spencer
Huh?
Kelsey Plum
You said watermelon, apple, and peanut.
Sidney Spencer
I'm gonna. I'm gonna.
Kelsey Plum
So you're cheating on all of them with the strawberry?
Sidney Spencer
I was thinking about my own list. My bad.
Kelsey Plum
I was thinking, you know, what's popping in my head right now? You remember the Hanes commercials where the people used to, like, run on stage and, like, dance with their fruit?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Mm.
Sidney Spencer
All right, I'm marrying. I'm marrying
Kelsey Plum
a strawberry, but that's not what.
Sidney Spencer
I'm marrying a watermelon.
Kelsey Plum
Okay, so you are black.
Sidney Spencer
I am.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yes.
Kelsey Plum
I was worried. I'm like, this is kind of. You're about to. To get a lot of blowback on those.
Sidney Spencer
So I'm marrying the watermelon. I. Man,
Kelsey Plum
you can't go wrong here. Well, you want potassium or not?
Sidney Spencer
Oh, why would you ever. All right, I just imagine you having a passion for potassium.
Kelsey Plum
Like, that's only. That's the only thing you're working with when it comes to kissing or killing this banana is potassium. Like, it's the only variant you have to work with.
Sidney Spencer
With that said, I am gonna kill the banana.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
Just because of the shape. Reminds me of a man, and I don't want to see that all the time. So that was always gonna die. And looks like I'll be kissing the apple.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah, that apple's getting a lot of action.
Sidney Spencer
Stop.
Kelsey Plum
Listen.
Sidney Spencer
Two more. No, no. You're killing me. Huh?
Kelsey Plum
Because I didn't know we were gonna play this game. We're gonna have to be kissing.
Sidney Spencer
Well, because Kelsey or murdering Kelsey or Karina added this in the doc, and it killed me seeing that.
Kelsey Plum
Hey, hey. Together, let's make sure that we give them a raise. No, for real.
Sidney Spencer
That. This just fried me. Okay. All right, here's one. Passion fruit versus kiwi versus mangosteen. I don't even know what a mangosteen is.
Kelsey Plum
I don't know what a mango scene is.
Sidney Spencer
All right, we're gonna switch that.
Kelsey Plum
So just mango.
Sidney Spencer
A mango.
Kelsey Plum
Okay, so mango, passion fruit.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I don't know if I've ever had passion fruit that wasn't.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, yeah, it's gotta die for me. It's gotta die for me. I've had it.
Kelsey Plum
Look up a passion.
Sidney Spencer
I've had it, but, like, I'm good on it. Isn't it the white one with the seeds?
Kelsey Plum
No, that's a dragon fruit.
Sidney Spencer
Oh, yeah.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Oh, then maybe I haven't had passion fruit.
Kelsey Plum
What I've learned about you today is that you don't either understand the rules or no fruit. One of the. Oh, I like passion fruit.
Sidney Spencer
Let me see.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah, you have to scoop the seeds out, and it's like, do you see this?
Sidney Spencer
You gotta scoop it out like a pomegranate.
Emily (Emma Lou)
That looks like.
Kelsey Plum
It looks like.
Sidney Spencer
So clearly, I know my fruit. Let me see. What the. Does it look like that inside for?
Kelsey Plum
Yeah, but I do like them. I have those on vacation all the time.
Sidney Spencer
Wait a minute.
Kelsey Plum
We don't have those a lot here, but if you go to. It looks like things live in any Caribbean country.
Emily (Emma Lou)
This is always like larva. It's always on the baking show.
Kelsey Plum
They're so good.
Sidney Spencer
They all love, then kill bugs in there. I did kill it. I killed. I killed it already. Passion fruit died off the rip.
Kelsey Plum
Okay.
Sidney Spencer
I'm marrying a kiwi.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
And I'm kissing a mango because a mango is so sweeter. Sweet and soft. Anyways. It's just like that plum cut.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I'm like, yeah, I want to marry a mango. I love that.
Kelsey Plum
I wanted to marry the mango as well, Emily.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, well. Oh, I should have. I should kill the mango because it's got man in it. So I'm a switch. I will fight the patriarchy. Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
Thank God for you, Sid.
Sidney Spencer
All right, all right, all right, last one.
Kelsey Plum
Wait. I didn't get to say if I wanted to kiss the passion fruit, because I do. Like, I need to get off my chest. Like, why did I have to say that? I didn't, but it's half my podcast, so I can, I guess. Thanks for listening, y'.
Unsupervised Rapper
All.
Sidney Spencer
Don't say another word. My chest hurts. All right, last one.
Kelsey Plum
Whoa, whoa. What's going on?
Sidney Spencer
Oh, this one that I'm about to throw at y'. All.
Kelsey Plum
I'm scared. I don't know if I can handle it.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah. Tomato.
Kelsey Plum
Okay.
Sidney Spencer
Versus avocado.
Unsupervised Rapper
Whoa.
Sidney Spencer
Versus bell peppers.
Kelsey Plum
Dang.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I'm killing tomato.
Kelsey Plum
Oh, that was quick. Wait, why'd you want to. Why were you so passionate about killing the tomato?
Emily (Emma Lou)
Because I. I'm very, like, I don't mind tomato, but I love avocado. I eat it.
Kelsey Plum
So you're marrying it, or you just want to kiss it?
Emily (Emma Lou)
I'm marrying avocado. What was the other one?
Sidney Spencer
The other one was bell pepper. Bell pepper.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Oh, And I love bell peppers. How am I supposed to cook without bell peppers?
Sidney Spencer
So you're marrying them?
Emily (Emma Lou)
I'm kissing.
Sidney Spencer
Wait, but this isn't. This isn't for you.
Kelsey Plum
To cook with.
Sidney Spencer
You're spending your.
Kelsey Plum
Oh, this is matrimony. This either a hookup. Kill both, kill two, or you have to murder them. You have to get away with murder again.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I stand by.
Kelsey Plum
I think I would also have to kill tomato. I think I would. I think I would also have Emily's lifestyle. I would marry the avocado.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
We'd be making avo toast.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Right. But we're not eating it, so I'm confused.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah. So do you want to be tempted by your whole life? Like, you have to just look at it.
Sidney Spencer
You're marrying it because of how much you like it. Out of this group of three, like, you're not about to.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Right.
Sidney Spencer
You gotta envision that avocado again.
Kelsey Plum
I'm envisioning the Hanes. So if you, like, dressed up in an avocado.
Sidney Spencer
Listen, if you like an avocado, 6 out of 10, you're with a 6 out of 10 kind of person.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
Like, that's how much you're going to like the person that you marry. But if avocado is 6 and the other ones are 5 and 4, then you need to take the 6. So that's. I'm looking at this like, this means an avocado. Y' all aren't taking this seriously. And I'm like, no.
Kelsey Plum
It seems like you're getting a picturing a life.
Sidney Spencer
I'm picturing a life with these. So you want children? Like, yeah, I'm doing. I'm also. I'm going to marry avocado. I'm gonna kiss bell peppers. And I'm also gonna.
Kelsey Plum
So you want to live our lifestyle. We're sister wives in that.
Sidney Spencer
I'm changing it. I'm marrying bell peppers. Actually, I should have done that. Anyways. I'm tripping.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I feel like tomato's the most sapphic if we want to go along with that theme.
Sidney Spencer
Tomato.
Kelsey Plum
Tomato.
Sidney Spencer
I'm not messing with it.
Kelsey Plum
All right, well, aren't you glad I didn't say banana? That was a. That was a knock, knock joke for everyone.
Sidney Spencer
All right, audio. Make sure to go watch this segment to see how I've violently laughed at tp. My chest hurts. Emily. I mean, Emilie. What do we call her?
Kelsey Plum
Emma Lou.
Sidney Spencer
Emma Lou. We so enjoy. Did you like the fruit? Did you like the I loved it Kiss Mary kill fruit edition.
Kelsey Plum
Thank you for participating.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah, thank you.
Kelsey Plum
And thank you for being my cousin. And I love you so much.
Emily (Emma Lou)
I love you, too.
Sidney Spencer
You're just trying to say something I couldn't say. See you next Time. Emily.
Kelsey Plum
Emily. Can't wait to have you on the pod again. Also can't wait to see you soon.
Emily (Emma Lou)
Love y'. All.
Kelsey Plum
Love you.
Sidney Spencer
Bye, girl.
Kelsey Plum
What a.
Sidney Spencer
Okay. All right. You got to take me to our favorite segment.
Kelsey Plum
It goes down in the dm. It go down. It go down in the dm. It go down. It go down.
Sidney Spencer
Okay, so we got a dm. We got a DM from Ariana. And Ariana said, okay. Ariana said something and then said, nevermind. Just got to that part of the last episode. Is that down in the DMs. I have a story for y' all about getting low key hate crime at the Lynx Tempo game. Oh, no. I was there with friends, but my girlfriend was there as well. So I went to sit by her for a quarter. I had my arm around her shoulder. And then this old white woman started yelling at us to get a room. Stop sitting so close. Plus plus plus more. Keep it. No, et cetera. Keep in mind, we're literally sitting in separate chairs. I'm yelling back at her to leave us alone. I'm a 21 year old lesbian with pretty short hair. And this lady has the same. And this lady has the same hair as me. Also, you're at a Lynx game. Like, know your audience. Half the league is gay. So then security was called and they had to have a serious talk with her and give her a war and
Kelsey Plum
gave her a warning, as they should have because you can go anywhere else. Go to church. Go. There's so many other spaces for you and your hate that the WNBA space isn't for you. Like we know to avoid you in other places, so go to those places and just like, wait.
Sidney Spencer
I would have. I would have fucked her up bad if she had done that to me, yelling at us. I would have let it go for about three things that you yell out. And then once I turn and see her and see she's got short hair like me, I'm like, I see myself in you. And I would piss her off.
Kelsey Plum
You start looking at her, then you blotch. That would really piss her off.
Sidney Spencer
I'm like, I feel like your future me. Like, I see so much of me in you.
Kelsey Plum
You know what? I'd be like, wow, good haircut. Who do you go to? I was thinking about spicing mine up a little bit and getting that. Just, just try to make her more gay than what you like. Also, she's probably just a little jealous.
Sidney Spencer
A little.
Kelsey Plum
Like, was she there with a man? And if she was there with a man, she clearly doesn't look like she should have been with that man. So it's probably years of marriage that she was just unhappy with. Facts getting just blasted towards you.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah. So f that lady. You're good.
Kelsey Plum
And sorry we were hyping up the links roster and staff earlier. Didn't know that the fans were so hurtful. But, yeah, no, sorry that you had to experience out of W games. Really sad safe space for. For you and your G friend
Sidney Spencer
tp.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
Had a blast with you.
Kelsey Plum
Had a blast. We're about to be back in person.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah. We're gonna be around each other for.
Kelsey Plum
So make sure you're checking out IG live. I'm sure we're gonna be on there.
Sidney Spencer
Yeah.
Kelsey Plum
Periodically.
Sidney Spencer
Am I make sure to come watch audio.
Kelsey Plum
Oh, yeah, come watch.
Sidney Spencer
We're gonna be with each other for about four or five episodes.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
So come get you some of that. Oh, also, I got this shirt at a comedy club. Dude's name was Eric. He had a bunch of cool TE's there, but this is Eric's. I'll check it on my page because I told him I would take it.
Kelsey Plum
Yeah.
Sidney Spencer
But I got a couple other ones. He had, like, some safety pins on them and some that were like, no,
Kelsey Plum
you look really handsome in that tank.
Sidney Spencer
All right, well, y' all know what to do if you want us to hear your business, give you advice. You want to give us some advice? Tell us something that something amazing that happened to you or that you did to somebody else, please let us know. DM us at unsupervised ctp.
Kelsey Plum
And as always, everybody, don't forget to throw kindness around like confetti till next week.
Unsupervised Rapper
We want and yeah, we say what we feel. Sitting tmp of the mix and they be keeping you real on brand, off topic, out of pocket? Anything you need, they got it? Why don't you shout when you know they gonna block it? When it's game time and you know I'm gonna block them? And we cover everything like harder than us and yeah, we looking down on haters? Cause they smaller than us and yeah, my flow is so dependent? I be coughing it up? You said that we gone flat? Well then I'm calling your blood unsupervised? Unsupervised, unsupervised.

Episode: TP’s Cousin Emily Has A PhD In Y’all Being Weird About Trans Athletes
Date: August 6, 2026
Summary
This episode of Unsupervised with hosts Syd Colson and TP (Theresa Plaisance) takes on a more focused—though still hilarious—direction as TP's cousin Emily (Emma Lou), a professor, coach, and leading trans advocate, joins the show. The trio dives into the hot-button topic of trans athletes in sports, analyzing legislative trends, debunking myths, and discussing the real-life impacts of anti-trans rhetoric. The episode also stays true to the podcast’s playful roots, closing with an unhinged “fruit edition” of the game Kiss/Marry/Kill and some classic text thread-style banter.

This episode deftly balances in-depth education, pointed critique, heartfelt moments, and the signature Unsupervised chaos—making it a must-listen (or an equally rich, hilarious read).
