Tom Holman, Kristi Noem are people, they've been incredible, the job they've done and they take nothing but abuse. But you know, they're sort of pretty hardened to that, I think, because they know they're doing the right thing. It just amazes me that there's not more support out there. It's just we actually have a silent support.
Ben Ferguson
You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
It's State of the Union Day in America. Nice to have you with us on the 47 Morning Update. And Donald Trump is aiming to sell his first year successes in a crucial address to Congress ahead of the midterms. So what is the president going to talk about and what are the accomplishments that the media doesn't want you to know about? I'll break it all down for you right now live from Washington, D.C. it's the 47 Morning Update. And it starts right now.
Story number one, as I am here
in Washington, D.C. for the state of the Union. One of the fun things that happens before the State of the Union is the briefings that you receive. And I had the opportunity to sit down for breakfast with Speaker Mike Johnson. Mike Johnson talked a lot about what had been accomplished in the last year under the leadership of President Trump, especially having a one vote majority in the House and a slim majority in the Senate. What they've been able to do is truly unbelievable. But the president has got to convince Americans on Tuesday night of one major
thing that you're better off now because he's in office than if he wasn't in office. And that means come the midterms, if you want the Trump doctrine of America first to continue, you've got to stand
up and support and show up to vote for conservative candidates that Trump has endorsed.
Now, a lot of people are asking
what is gonna be in the State of the Union? That's exactly the question that I asked Speaker Johnson as well as the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant on Sunday as I was meeting him.
And here's what I have for you. Number one, the president's going to be talking about the economy. In jobs, Donald Trump will put economic performance front and center, calling the US Economy strong, booming and growing better than before. He's expected to highlight his tax cuts, his wage increases, also consumer price trends, as well as American job growth. He'll also frame much of his agenda around continued economic expansion and lower costs for Americans. Part of that comes from no tax on tips and no tax on overtime. That has just become a reality in this country. The President will also spend a significant amount of time talking about your safety. That includes the major issue of border security and immigration. Border security and immigration control is going to be a large part of the focus of the president's words. Trump is likely to tout the reduction in illegal crossings, which have virtually gone to zero, as well as stricter enforcement policies, while arguing that his approach protects American jobs and also national security. Oddly enough, with the recent cartel explosion of violence in Mexico, there may be no better time for the President to remind the American people of what our secure borders are now keeping out. And then he'll talk about trade and tariffs. He is expected to defend his aggressive tariff strategy, which clearly has worked significantly promoting American manufacturing and trade fairness despite his recent challenges at the Supreme Court. Trade policy will be framed as part of building his national economic strength for all Americans. Foreign policy and national security will be one and one, I'm being told from Speaker Johnson as well as the president will likely touch on not only foreign policy, but global positioning and national security, especially concerning tensions in the Middle east and strategic competition with global rivals, including China and Russia. And using international developments as evidence of American strength. There's also expected to be emphasis on crime reduction in this country. The president making it clear that even if you're in a liberal city, you deserve to be safe. The President has done a significant amount to reduce crime in places like Washington, D.C. and Memphis, Tennessee, St. Louis, Chicago, and the list continues to grow. There's also going to be discussions about health care and the proposals, as well as prescription drug affordability and new initiatives to lower costs for families. Republican leaders want focus on affordability issues that voters care about the most now. Trump's speech will also serve as a clear message on the midterms, which I mentioned a moment ago. The President understands that essentially this is
a rallying narrative for Republicans and and reminding voters of what is on the ballot come this November. As early voting has already started in many of the primaries, it's clear that Americans are thinking about all of these things. And what the President has to do is remind voters of his priorities and the framing of what happens if Republicans lose the House or the Senate. Now there are also just the big accomplishments that the President will be able to talk about. Much of this the media refuses to discuss. Real GDP growth has surged. Jobs has also outpaced the gains in 2025 with strong job report coming in. Blue collar wages saw Significant increases and workers real earnings have also grown. The President also can tout his real tax reform with the Trump tax cuts, making those earlier cuts permanent. Creating Trump accounts for newborns will also be something the President will talk about. Setting up the next generation for financial success in a major way and having those Trump accounts actually have real deposits put in them day one. The President will also talk about what's about to happen for so many Americans that work for tips and those that work in overtime. That was a policy agenda item that started, yes, last year, but after it was passed, it didn't actually get enacted until this year. Meaning now is the first time people are really seeing the difference in their paychecks. And then there's regulatory changes that are aimed at supporting economic activity and innovation. Some of those are going to make cars actually cheaper for Americans. The president touting that, that automatic on off start on your car, that was bureaucrats just making the cost of your car go up and it also did serious damage to your engine over the long term. Well, that's no longer a mandate under the Trump administration. The President saying regulations are killing American jobs and also making Americans have to pay way too much for basic things like a car. Then the President will obviously talk about the success of the southern border. What the President was able to do in the first year is truly unbelievable with the major immigration crackdown and self deportations now into the millions and millions of illegals that have left on their own. We also know that the President is also tightening asylum rules. And deportations are expected to be at a record high this year as well. Now implementation of high tariffs on imported goods protect U.S. manufacturing and reduce trade deficits. That is generating substantial tariff revenue, something the President will talk about even though the Supreme Court struck down part of what he was actually able to accomplish. Foreign policy and security. The increased sanctions the President has put on many rogue regimes and strategic designations against hostile enemies. And foreign policy actions demonstrating American resolve, including declaring the narcos narco terrorists, which means that then America can go after them in different ways. There's also affordability as part of the speech, I was told by Speaker Johnson, initiatives aimed at lowering prescription drug costs the President will be touting as well. And reforming healthcare financing will be another part of what you can expect in the speech. Now, all of this also goes back to what Donald Trump has said, and that is that our government just got way too big. Previous administrations had massive amounts of regulations across climate DEI and other areas. The President will tout the dismantling or reshaping of federal agency priorities not to be about DEI hires, but to be about what is best for the American people and the workforce to do it in our government. Now there will be no doubt a celebration of the policies that the president argues have strengthened the economy as well as national security. There will be a political message aimed at Republican voters, trying to inspire them to get out and vote in the midterms. The President will talk about that midterm convention as well to celebrate the candidates before Election Day. And then there will be a real effort from President Trump to appeal to Americans on cost of living, jobs and national sovereignty issues. At the same time, it's very important to note that public opinion polls are showing skepticism among some Americans about President Trump's performance, especially on inflation, which they went down faster even on the issue of tariffs and foreign relations. The President's going to have to make sure he connects on those issues as well. This is exactly what the President of the United States of America is going to be focusing on, and it's so important that every American understand what already has been done, but where we're going
