Donald Trump
And I was saying before with a party of common sense, you know, we don't want to have men playing in women's sports. And I'm going to work it out that there's no tax on Social Security for seniors, no tax on tips.
Ben Ferguson
You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
Good Wednesday morning, Ben Ferguson with you. And it's nice to have you on the 47 Morning Update. We've got three big stories for you this morning, including Donald Trump pledges to end taxes on overtime, tips and Social Security benefits. I'll explain the breakdown for you in a moment. Also, in a major victory for children, Donald Trump has signed an executive order protecting children from gender mutilation. And Finally, Trump halts 3 trillion in federal grants pending review of compliance with his executive orders. Democrats are fighting back with many lies about what this actually does. It's the 47 Morning Update and it starts right now.
Story number one, it was a campaign.
Promise that very well may have won several different swing states for Donald Trump. The promise he made on the campaign was this.
Donald Trump
They're going to destroy Social Security. I am going to leave Social Security. I'm not raising the years, I'm not raising the age. I will be saving Social Security. And I'm going to work it out that there's no tax on Social Security for seniors. I'm also doing no tax on tips. No tax on tips. So waiters, waitresses, caddies, people that drive cars, people that get tips who have been harassed by this government. We're going to have no tax on tips. That's a big thing.
Ben Ferguson
It is a big thing. And it was a big thing that may have catapulted them to the White House. Well, now the president is moving forward, working with Congress to make all of these promises, including no taxes on overtime.
Political Analyst
You can add that to the list.
Ben Ferguson
Of promises and what he's trying to pay off on. So let's go through these proposals so you understand exactly what is happening. The taxes on tips and overtime, the proposal that Trump has now come up with aims to work with Congress to.
Political Analyst
Now pass legislation that would exclude workers.
Ben Ferguson
Tips and overtime earnings from federal taxation. Now what is the impact? Well, this would increase take home pay for workers in industries like hospitality. Critics are warning that this quote might lead to employers reducing base wages even though there's absolutely no evidence of that. That is what Democrats are fighting back with.
Political Analyst
Let's move to Social Security.
Ben Ferguson
The goal of this for Donald Trump is to simply have more money for retirees. Seniors would receive their full Social Security benefits without reductions due to taxation improving their financial well being, in essence giving a cost of living increase a raise to every single recipient of Social Security. This would also allow, as Donald Trump has argued this week, for better retirement security. Retirees living on a fixed income would have more funds available for necessities like health care, housing and daily expenses that have skyrocketed because of Bidenflation. And it would also help stimulate the economy, President Trump says as well, increasing consumer spending. With more money in their pockets, seniors could contribute more to the economy by spending on goods and services. Now, both of these proposals aim to put more money directly into the hands of workers and retirees, which could improve financial stability and also stimulate economic growth. So of course, you know now why so many Democrats are coming out and saying they're against this proposal because they're against Americans actually being able to take care of themselves and enjoy life.
Now, story number two, Donald Trump made.
Political Analyst
Two major promises to the American people during the campaign. One, one of them was the issue of transgender surgeries against minors, saying it's time for us to get rid of that in the United States of America, no minor should be mutilated, especially at a young age when they are a minor. He also made it clear that he wanted to protect women's sports. Getting men transgenders out of women's locker rooms. How important is this subject to the president? Well, on the day he was inaugurated at one of the inaugural balls that night, President Trump said this to the crowd.
Donald Trump
And I was saying before with a party of common sense, you know, we, we don't want to have men playing in women's sports. We don't want to have transgender operations for everyone.
Political Analyst
Well, Donald Trump just one week later has made part of what he just talked about become a reality. President Trump has signed an executive order prohibiting sex reassignment surgeries for minors. Supporters of the decision are saying thank you to the president because of how the order was written. A protection of minors. The order aims to, quote, safeguard children from making irreversible medical decisions at a young age, ensuring they reach maturity before considering such procedures. It also goes into the health and safety aspects of these surgeries. By delaying these surgeries until adulthood, the policy seeks to prevent potential medical complications and psychological impacts associated with early gender transition. And then parental involvement was part of the executive order emphasizing the importance of parental guidance in significant medical decisions, promoting family involvement in a child's well being, something that many medical professionals have not wanted to be a part of the decision making process. And at many schools, they also were doing everything they could to hide from parents a child's decision to, quote, be transgender. Advocates are now saying this measure, which has now become an executive order, will prioritize the long term health and safety of minors, allowing them to make fully informed decisions about their bodies not as children, but, but as adults. This is another common sense approach where Donald Trump has said, After 18, you can do what you want to do, but when you are a child, it is my job to protect you from the radical leftists out there that are.
Ben Ferguson
Trying to indoctrinate your children into a radical alternative lifestyle.
And lastly, story number three.
Donald Trump sent shockwaves through the federal government today as he halted 3 trillion in federal grants pending review of compliance.
Political Analyst
With his executive orders. President Trump ordering the suspension of all.
Ben Ferguson
Federal grants, loans and other financial programs pending what they described as a thorough agency review. The decision was announced in a two page memo from the Office of Management and Budget titled temporary pause of Agency Grant, loan and other financial assistance Programs. According to the memo, it affects at least 3 trillion in federal outlays. Now, Democrats immediately seized on this to say that Donald Trump was gonna stop giving food stamps to Americans and he was going to stop sending out Social Security checks. That is a lie on both of those issues.
Political Analyst
The White House was quick to respond.
Ben Ferguson
And correct the issue, calling out Democrats for causing panic among seniors and mothers who, who are just trying to feed their kids.
Political Analyst
So let me tell you what exactly.
Ben Ferguson
Is in this freeze. Number one, the goal is to enhance fiscal responsibility. How are they going to do it? Through a thorough review of expenditures. The pause will allow for a comprehensive assessment of federal programs to determine their necessity, efficiency, potentially identifying and eliminating wasteful spending. This is something that every, every American should be in favor of. Number two, inflation mitigation, control of excessive spending. By scrutinizing and potentially reducing unnecessary expenditures. The initiative aims to address unchecked spending that can contribute to inflation, thereby protecting the American economy. And number three, alignment with policy objectives, focusing on core priorities. The freeze seeks to redirect funds towards programs that directly support the administration's goals, such as promoting efficiency in government operations and ending initiatives deemed misaligned with current.
Political Analyst
Policy directions of the Trump administration.
Ben Ferguson
And finally, number four, potential long term savings, reduction of federal bloat. By evaluating and justifying each program's expenditures, the government could achieve significant savings, the White House says, potentially amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars benefiting taxpayers yet again in the long run. Bottom line, the Trump administration is making it clear that this is a strategic pause and a prudent measure to ensure that taxpayer dollars are utilized effectively fostering a more accountable and efficient federal government for the workers, the taxpayers in America.

Podcast Summary: "Verdict with Ted Cruz"
Episode: Trump Moves to Save Americans Billions in Tax Dollars
Release Date: January 29, 2025
Introduction
In the January 29, 2025 episode of "Verdict with Ted Cruz," hosted by Premiere Networks, Senator Ted Cruz and co-host Ben Ferguson delve into three pivotal actions taken by President Donald Trump aimed at relieving financial burdens on American citizens. The discussion navigates through Trump's initiatives to eliminate certain taxes, protect minors from gender-related medical procedures, and pause federal funding to ensure compliance with executive orders. This comprehensive analysis provides listeners with an in-depth understanding of the implications of these policies.
Story 1: Trump's Tax Relief on Tips, Overtime, and Social Security
Campaign Promise and Implementation
Ben Ferguson opens the discussion by highlighting a key campaign promise made by Donald Trump that played a significant role in securing crucial swing states. Trump vowed to "save Social Security" by ensuring there would be "no tax on Social Security for seniors" and eliminating taxes on tips. This promise resonated with workers heavily reliant on tips, such as waitstaff, caddies, and ride-share drivers. As Trump stated during the campaign, “[...] there’s no tax on Social Security for seniors. I’m also doing no tax on tips. No tax on tips. So waiters, waitresses, caddies, people that drive cars, people that get tips who have been harassed by this government. We’re going to have no tax on tips. That’s a big thing” (00:18).
Now in office, President Trump is actively working with Congress to fulfill these promises, extending the tax relief to include overtime earnings. A political analyst on the show explains, “Now pass legislation that would exclude workers from federal taxation on tips and overtime earnings” (02:09).
Impact on Workers and Economy
The proposed tax exemptions aim to increase take-home pay for workers in service industries, directly enhancing their financial stability. Ferguson elaborates, “This would increase take home pay for workers in industries like hospitality” (02:12). Additionally, by eliminating these taxes, retirees on fixed incomes will benefit from receiving full Social Security benefits without reductions, thereby improving their quality of life and purchasing power. Trump argues that this financial boost will not only support seniors but also stimulate the broader economy through increased consumer spending.
Democratic Opposition
Despite the potential benefits, Democrats criticize the proposals, alleging that tax exemptions could lead to employers reducing base wages. A political analyst counters these claims, stating, “there's absolutely no evidence of that” (02:36). Ferguson rebuts the Democrats' stance by asserting that their opposition stems from a reluctance to allow Americans to financially support themselves.
Story 2: Executive Order Protecting Children from Gender Mutilation
Trump's Stance on Transgender Issues
The second major story revolves around President Trump's commitment to protecting minors from gender reassignment surgeries. During an inaugural event, Trump emphasized the administration's focus on common sense approaches to gender issues, declaring, “we don’t want to have men playing in women’s sports. We don’t want to have transgender operations for everyone” (04:34).
Details of the Executive Order
Fulfilling his campaign promise, President Trump signed an executive order prohibiting sex reassignment surgeries for minors. The order aims to safeguard children from making irreversible medical decisions prematurely. Ferguson explains, “The order aims to safeguard children from making irreversible medical decisions at a young age, ensuring they reach maturity before considering such procedures” (04:47). Additionally, the executive order mandates parental involvement in these significant medical decisions, countering previous practices where schools and medical professionals excluded parents from the decision-making process.
Support and Criticism
Supporters praise the executive order for prioritizing the long-term health and safety of minors, arguing that it allows children to make informed decisions about their bodies as adults rather than under coercion or without proper guidance. Conversely, advocates for transgender rights express concern that the order imposes unnecessary restrictions on individual freedoms and undermines the autonomy of minors seeking gender-affirming treatment.
Story 3: Halting $3 Trillion in Federal Grants
Trump's Decision and Rationale
The final story discusses President Trump’s unprecedented move to halt $3 trillion in federal grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs pending a comprehensive compliance review. This decision was communicated through a two-page memo from the Office of Management and Budget titled "Temporary Pause of Agency Grant, Loan, and Other Financial Assistance Programs" (06:44).
Democratic Reactions and White House Response
Democrats swiftly reacted to this announcement, spreading misinformation by claiming that essential programs like food stamps and Social Security checks were being discontinued. Ferguson counters these false narratives by clarifying, “It is a strategic pause and a prudent measure to ensure that taxpayer dollars are utilized effectively” (07:37). The White House further refutes the Democrats' claims, emphasizing that the freeze is intended to enhance fiscal responsibility and prevent wasteful spending.
Goals and Potential Benefits
The administration outlines several objectives for the freeze:
Ferguson underscores the administration's intent to foster a more accountable and efficient federal government, ultimately benefiting American workers and taxpayers.
Conclusion
In this episode of "Verdict with Ted Cruz," Ben Ferguson and the political analysts provide a thorough examination of President Donald Trump's recent policies aimed at reducing taxes for workers and retirees, protecting minors from certain medical procedures, and ensuring fiscal responsibility through the suspension of federal grants. By dissecting the implications and addressing both support and opposition, the discussion offers listeners a nuanced perspective on these significant government actions and their potential impact on American society and the economy.
