Okay, so look, the President of the United States throwing down with John Thune yesterday as we were concluding this fine podcast Monday morning. And I just got done telling you about all the ways the Save America act needs to be passed and is yet, is not yet passed. And also about the number of Senators who are saying they're not going to allow the Senate to go into recess. Not easily at least because they want the Save America Act. We talked about that yesterday. That list has grown. We've got more senators now. I'll get to that coming up. But right as we ended the show, the President of the United States perhaps listening to the program in the background in the midst of his busy schedule, he declared on Truth Social that the this is the cutesy time is over. Maybe to borrow that phrase from Dan Bongino, he said John Thune needs to stop being stupid. He said it right as our program ended yesterday. Take a look at this. Here's the President. He says John Thune should not allow the United States Senate to leave town until it passes the Save America Act. I think that deserves a gavel. Here we go. The Save America act, or far better still, terminates the filibuster where Republicans can then quickly pass everything they've ever dreamed of, including a full and deep throated Save America Act. A deep throated Save America Act. Is that's all he wants? Is that too much to ask? The budget and the ever looming debt ceiling disaster, 1929. The Democrats will do it on day one, he says. I can't believe how lucky they got with this Senate leadership. Remember, stupidity always brings losing and death. Losing and death. President DJT Love, yesterday there were some reporters reacting to this. Losing and death. I can't believe he said losing and death. I didn't have losing and death on my bingo card. Losing and death. He's right. He's right though about this. Stupidity does bring losing and death. Weakness brings losing and death. A loss for the United States of America. A loss for election integrity and suffering always ensues out of chaos. History has shown this over and over and over again. The Republican Party under President Trump needs to be the party that brings order to our country, that stops the chaos. That's what we're asking for here. And so there's the President yesterday making that point. Now what ensued was a whole, not a whole bunch, a couple more Republicans joining the fight to say, yeah, no recess, no recess at all. Rick Scott saying no recess. The Florida senator yesterday I told you about, I Believe I told you about Rick Scott yesterday. Tommy Tuberville joined the list yesterday. Thank God for Tommy Tuberville. We love Tommy Tuberville. Great, great senator from Alabama. He said yesterday, you know, the Senate's done nothing to deserve a five week break. We haven't funded the military, we're about to let Democrats shut down the government and our elections still are not secure. The House has passed hundreds of bills. Other than the one big beautiful bill, all the Senate has done is pass bills rebuking Trump and giving Democrats handouts. Get them, Tuberville. Get them. Get them. Coach, we've lost sight of the fact that our job is to deliver results for the American people. There's no issue I hear more about when I'm back home in Alabama than securing our elections. Under communists Joe Biden and Barack obama, more than 15 million third world illegals invaded our country. These illegals are costing the American taxpayers billions of dollars and they're planning to vote in our midterm elections in just 99 days. Because of this, the traditions of the Senate should no longer apply. The American people didn't vote for a Republican Party obsessed with preserving their own power through the manufactured filibuster. They voted for a Republican Party that campaigned on fighting back against the tens of millions of Third world illegals who came here under Joe Biden and are looking to destroy this country. If we don't pass the Save America act before November, Democrats will steal the 2026 and 2028 elections and we will go back to Joe Biden's immigration policy on steroids under the new communist Democrat Party. Now's the time to dig in, eliminate the manufactured filibuster. Start a new Senate tradition of actually getting things done for the Constitution and the American people. I'll be joining Senator Mike Lee in voting against any attempt to adjourn for recess. Americans did not send us to DC to take a vacation. They sent us here to preserve the greatest country on earth. The new South Carolina senator. That's a good way to audition for the job, actually fight for what we want. Darlene Graham says she is not going to support going into recess. She will object to the unanimous consent. Bill Haggerty, Tennessee also says, I stand ready to stay in Washington through the August recess as long as it takes to get the Save America act passed. So the list is growing. We're at seven. Mike Lee, Rick Scott, Ashley Moody, Jim Banks, Tommy Tuberville, Bill Haggerty and Darlene Graham are all on our side. We've got patriots, ladies and gentlemen, but we also have a lot more Republican senators who are not announcing their support of this yet. That is to forego their vacation to get this done. And that list needs to grow. Please keep the pressure on. If you, especially if you have a Republican senator in your state, call them, tell them, no recess. Save America act, no recess. None. Yes. In fact, Rick Scott said this. He said, no results, no recession. That's the right phrase. No results, no recess. Pass. Save America now. All right, so the president was asked yesterday, why is it that you are telling the Senate to stay in session? Why do you want them to give up their recess? And the president responded, cut to what a stupid question. Watch.

What a stupid question for Jennifer. And ask such a stupid. She's a smart, smart person. I knew her all the way back in the Iowa days when she said Trump's going to win. And boy, was she right. So, listen, why do I want the SAVE act has to be done. They shouldn't leave town. I'm not going to stop them from doing it, but they should get the SAVE act done. If they don't get it done, it's going to be a very bad thing for the party. And frankly, you know, if you look at it, the SAVE act is going to be voted against by all Democrats. Just so we know, we have some Republicans that I will not comment on. A few of them, probably four, that we probably won't get the vote. I'd like to comment on them, but I have too much sense to do it. The Democrats are going to vote 100% against voter identification and proof of citizenship. 100%. They want your taxes to go up. They want men playing in women's sports. They want open border for the world's criminals to pour into our country. And yet despite all of that, we have the lowest crime rate in the history of our country.

Yeah, we've got four senators. He said, I won't name them because I'm too nice. I'm too nice. I'm far too wise to just name them right here. I'm not trying to, you know, drive them further away from me. But in case you're wondering who he's talking about, it's Thom, it's Tham Tillis, it's Mitch the Glitch McConnell, who's still not back in the Senate, who this week we found out is not coming back for a while. Apparently, every, every so often, they release a photo that they think will satisfy us as proof of life. So we're waiting on Mitch. Who else? Susan Collins. That's the. Hold your nose, senator. That's the one that we have to have in lieu of having some commie come in and take that seat. So that's. That's crazy. And then there's Murkowski, Lisa Murkowski, the ranked choice senator from Alaska. Those are the four he's referencing. Murkowski, Collins, Tillis, and McConnell. It's amazing. It's like Republicans have control of the Senate, but they don't have control of their own people at all. And that brings us to John Thune. John Thune went on Sean Hannity's program last night, and that's where Hannity asked him some questions about, you know, what's the plan here? You know, what, what's achievable? Can you pass the Save America Act? And I want you to listen to John Thune's excuses here, and I want to point out to you that I'm gonna, I'm gonna dwell on it in a moment, but John Thune is engaged in an act of deception here, as he's trying to explain to you or make excuses for why he's not getting this done. He lies about the Civil Rights act and the filibuster first. Just take a listen to this. I want you to hear it first.

Watch President putting a lot of pressure on you, the Senate, to get it done. There are two paths towards it. The Mike Lee path, you stay in session, you take to the floor. Real filibuster versus the Lindsey Graham method, which was. He thought you could do it through reconciliation, right? Well, I think probably the best path to success is through budget reconciliation, and there aren't. We can't do everything in budget reconciliation, but we can do parts of it. The one thing about the talking filibuster, and it hasn't been used in something like 100 years, people point to the Civil Rights act of 1964, but that actually was done under regular order. They invoked cloture, passed it that way, but you turn control of the floor over to the Democrats, it's not only unlimited debate, it's unlimited amendments. And the Democrats will have a long list of amendments. And so every time they get an amendment, get it considered Gets disposed of, the clock resets. Every Democrat can give two hours of speeches, so that's 47 or times 2, 94 hours of speeches. And then every time you have a vote on an amendment, you go back, start all over again. So the Democrats, this is something that they're salivating over the opportunity to have as a talking filibuster. So that isn't the best path in my view. And frankly, I don't think we probably have the votes in the Senate among Republicans even to get on a talking filibuster. But I do think we have a possibility through budget reconciliation to get some of these.

All right, so, you know, John Thune has spent a lot of time telling you that these are forces that are outside of his control. He just can't stop this, you know, just don't have the votes. Just don't have the votes. Now. He hasn't shown much capacity for trying to get them, which is the thing we keep asking for. Show some fight, dude. Show some testicular fortitude. But the other piece of this is, you know, he's not actually fighting for them because he's lying about the strategies that you could employ to pass this thing. He's lying to you. He's lying about the Civil Rights act of 1964. He said, oh, that wasn't the filibuster. Yes, it was. In fact, Mike Lee once again politely explained this last night in reaction to John Thune's appearance on Hannity. And here's what Mike Lee said. My colleague from South Dakota suggests here that the talking filibuster has not been used in a century and that it was not used to pass the Civil Rights act of 1964. He's mistaken. As I've explained to the entire Senate Republicans on multiple occasions, the talking filibuster was used effectively to break the weeks long filibuster mounted against the Civil Rights act of 1964. Leader Thune and others point out that the Senate ultimately invoked cloture on the Civil Rights act and on that basis wrongly conclude that the talking filibuster was not the tool used to achieve that victory. Okay, I'm sorry. Mike Lee is being generous to a fault with John Thune. John Thune is not stupid. He knows this. He is lying about this in order to suppress the appetite for using this vehicle to get the Save America act passed. John Thune at this moment is our opponent. That's what he declared last night when he deceived about this very issue. Mike Lee is being too generous with him. He's suggesting that he was merely mistaken, that he doesn't realize this, that the filibuster was used. And that's how they got to cloture. That too generous, Mike. John Thune was being deceptive on national television in order to try and tamp down the energy for the Save America Act. That's what happened. Thune and others point out the Senate ultimately invoked cloture and on that basis wrongly conclude that the talking filibuster was not the tool used to achieve that victory. This argument ignores the fact that this is how the Senate closed a staggering 30 vote cloture deficit in 1964. 30 votes. You understand that basically they start the filibuster fight because you have a lot of Democrats who don't want to see black Americans have rights in the United states. They convinced 30 more people to join the cause to pass the Civil Rights act of 1964 against racist Democrats. That's how this gets passed over through an exhausting filibuster procedure. These senators don't want to stand there forever. They don't want to do this forever. You can beat them into submission by exhausting them. They closed a 30 vote deficit when they started the debate. They didn't have the votes. By the end of it, they did. Look, there's, there are two ways out of filibuster. There's two. Well, three, technically you can give it up if you, if you're weak. But the other two ways are you convince enough people to join you either through exhaustion or the merits of your arguments, or you exhaust debate, you literally run out of debate, there's no more debate left. Then you can vote on it with a simple majority. How many times have we been over this? You can vote on it. Every piece of legislation is a simple majority vote. It is not 60 votes to pass any piece of legislation. The 60 vote rule is to end debate early. That's what it's about. If you want to shut off debate early, it takes 60 votes. But we've become so accustomed to the United States Senate not even having debates that everybody thinks it takes 60 votes to pass legislation. It doesn't. It takes 60 votes to shut down the debate. That's what it takes. And if you have the full debate, you don't even have to vote on cloture. You just vote on the bill. It's as simple as it gets. And Mike Lee keeps explaining this. So in 1964, the Civil Rights act, they get this done that way. They started proposing and supporting amendments to the bill to make it more palatable to help them save face. I still maintain that this is a viable approach that could work well even better in the context of the Save America act, especially considering that the bill's less complicated and less controversial with voters than it then was the Civil Rights act, and it currently has a cloture deficit of only 10 votes. It's tiny compared to the 30 vote deficit faced by the Civil Rights act of 1964. My colleague also mistakenly suggests that Senate Republicans would have to vote to enforce the talking filibuster. That simply isn't true. Mike Lee being too generous Again, John Thune knows no vote is required for this step. All we need is a majority leader willing to announce that we're getting on the bill and that we will continue to debate it until it passes, all with the understanding that if filibustering senators fail to show up to debate it, we can call the question and pass it with a simple majority. That understanding in turn is what motivates the filibustering senators to show up and speak. But it's also what naturally causes them to tire of the exercise after a few weeks, at which point they start looking for a face saving on ramp. Finally, Leader Thune suggests that the talking filibuster would be thwarted by being reset every time Democrats offered an amendment. There's a valid point there, but it's not a good reason not to invoke the talking filibuster. It appears he's referring indirectly to the two speech rule. While offering a new amendment can create a new question under long standing practice, the September 25, 1986 precedent narrowed rather how rigidly the two speech rules applied by clarifying that many procedural actions do not count as speeches at all. Particularly in light of that clarification, it's been a long time since I've suggested we consider region enforcement of the two speech limit as a part of a talking filibuster strategy for the Save America Act. We don't need it. Nor was that rule aggressively enforced during the Civil Rights act of 1964 debate. Majority Leader Mike Mansfield correctly focused on requiring actual debate from filibustering senators rather than looking for technical ways to shut the debate down. Now he does say he gives credit to John Thune for considering reconciliation. He says he's been Mike Lee says he's been skeptical in the past, but he's starting to believe it is possible. That said, it's fraught with all kinds of problems, challenges, risks, uncertainties. Also, failure can be far too easy to blame on the Parliamentarian I'm open, open to considering the reconciliation path, but we should make this decision with our eyes open. To do that, we need to separate fact from fiction when it comes to the talking.

All right, so I took you through that because that's again, Mike Lee giving us a crash course on the way the Senate works in the way and what's actually achievable here, because I'm not. I wouldn't be hectoring John Thune about this. I wouldn't be riding this guy right now if it wasn't possible. It's entirely possible. Mike Lee just laid it out for you. Mike Lee is being far too kind to freaking John Thune, but he just laid out the actual strategy about how to pass this thing. And the president's bringing pressure to bear on this guy. Now. He was asked yesterday, President Trump was asked yesterday, hey, do you still have a good relationship with John Thune in light of the fact that you're pressuring him in public? And the president goes, yeah, yeah, I've got a good relationship with him. The key is he's got to pass this thing. Watch. Cut three.

What's the left gonna do if they get power back? You know, let me share something with you. This comes to us from an NBC reporter. Sahil Kapoor is an NBC reporter, senior national reporter for NBC. They're dialed in with the left and he said this. I'm a broken record on this. But again, Senate Republicans oppose nuking the filibuster because they believe that the 60 vote rule blocks many more liberal goals than conservative goals in the long haul. Liberals have come to the same conclusion. Hence they mostly favor nuking it. You understand the point. You have some Senate Republicans under some sort of delusional belief right now, a delusional belief right now that if they cling to the filibuster that it will be an impediment to the left in the future when the left, I love that the Republicans have become so satisfied by losing that they fully anticipate the Democrats are going to take over everything. You understand that, like the fact that Republicans are clinging to the filibuster is they're doing that because they truly believe that Democrats are going to get every seat back. They're going to get the House, the Senate, the presidency. So we have to have the filibuster when they control everything again. What do you mean, when? What? Why are we even projecting forward a future where they are going to take over everything? How? Why? It's kind of a sign that you freaking failed. If you already anticipate Democrats are going to run the entire table, but the left's own people are saying, yeah, as soon as we get power, we're going to get rid of it. So why are you still clinging to it? So you're going to screw us over and hand them the gun? What? We deserve so much better than this crap. We deserve so much better than this crap, which is why we're fighting like crazy to improve this and fire the guys who are standing in our way. We've done some of that this year. We're going to have to do a lot more. We're going to have to do a lot more. Now, there are Senate Republicans right now who are desperately scrambling to keep their vacation. And, you know, it's interesting, I talked with you about on, on Friday. The reason that this has blown up into a bigger debate is because we asked about it. Remember Thursday at the White House press briefing, Caroline Levitt does the briefing. And our White House correspondent Reagan Reese straight up asks, is the president's patience running out with John Thune? And Caroline Levitt said, yeah, the president's patience is running out. He wants the Save America Act. You guys remember all of this, okay? So because of what we started, it is blown up in Washington. Everybody's debating this. John Thune is sweating. Everybody's concerned about the White House saying that the president's patience is running out. And yesterday, the Senate leadership began circulating talking points among all of the Republican senators to try and stop this. And in fact, let me scroll down here. This is. The Daily Caller obtained this exclusively. Let me scroll down here and show you the talking point based on what you and I discussed. This is, this is all predicated on, on what this show has been obsessed with. Here it is. White House press secretary. This is the talking point that was just sent out to Republican senators yesterday. Here's the question that they might get asked. White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said President Trump's patience is running out with John Thune. Is Thune doing a good job as majority leader? And then there's a number of responses that a senator might give. And by the way, if any Republican senator gives these responses, you know that they got them directly from John Thune. Here we go. President Trump and Senator Thune are united. And no, they're not. They're not united immediately. A lie. They're not united. They're on different pages. When it comes to the Save America act and the filibuster and how to achieve this, President Trump and Senator Thun are united and doing an excellent job. One of them is delivering safety and prosperity for Americans despite unprecedented Democrat obstruction. Two, their leadership has been critical to make life affordable by ending the income tax on Social Security benefits, taxes on tips, and putting more money back in the pockets of hardworking American families. Ladies and gentlemen, that was the big, beautiful bill that was last year. You can't dine out on that thing forever. How about pass the Save America act like Larry Kudlow was just asking this week, what the hell have you done for me lately? They've worked together to make Americans safer by closing our border, deporting violent criminals and cracking down on fentanyl and strengthening our military. 90% of that is something President Trump has done. The rest is stuff that the Congress did last year. And then finally, and we all agree we have to defeat the radical Democrat socialists who are threatening to undo our progress. Yeah, we do agree, which is why we want the freaking Save America Act. These talking points are absurd. And they're distributing to Republican senators. If any sucker Republican senators just starts mouthing these talking points, you know where they came from. John Thune's office wrote them and then distributed them because they didn't like the fact that we actually got an answer to our question from Caroline Levitt that said. Well, I think we're waiting for confirmation, but relative to any others that we're aware of, 10 launch locations, 850,000 individual fireworks show lasting about 40 minutes. A typical one on Washington D.C. a big Fourth of July celebration is less than half that in terms of length, less than a third of that in terms of launch locations, and less than 1/10 of that in terms of number of fireworks. So. So I don't think it's going to be close when the, when the tape finally comes in. I think this is going to set a new world record by some margin.

They were you worried at all given the weather constraints that occurred on Independence Day? I know the president was very insistent that the show go on. Were you sweating at all as, as the night approached?

Doug Burgum
Well, I think the big thing, of course people need to appreciate number one priority on this is security for the citizens that are watching and of course security for the President United states. We had 83 magnometers. Think of like TSA sites. We screened 350,000 people at least into that area. Then the lightning storm came, evacuation order, get the people off the mall. Had to take those stations down. 350,000 people left the National Mall president says the show must go on as he always does. We set him back up again. We screened over 100,000 people and got them back in by the time he took the stage at 11pm so, you know, kudos to the U.S. park Police, the National Park Service, everybody that was working, all the security folks, the National Guard, to pull that off, because, you know, unfortunately, there's plenty of, plenty of bad actors in the world that their number one goal was to spoil our Fourth of July celebration with some kind of backpack bomb on the mall. You know, and if it happened anytime near when the President was speaking, no matter where it was, that's the only news story we'd still be talking about. And so to be able to pull off that scale an event, the, the, you know, through the full two weeks of the Great American State Fair.

All the events going on and do that with, you know, with total security, no incidents. I mean, you know, kudos to the team. They worked on that security plan for over a year.

How intense were the threats now that in hindsight, was it, was it a pretty big undertaking? Were there a lot of, was there a lot of ill intention for that, that celebration?

Doug Burgum
Well, I think there was. Certainly was. And, and it's just, it's a sad thing, but, you know, long before even our 250th, if you're in the dark web going around and looking at how to recruit people that have animosity in the United States, I mean, one of the number one images they use is the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty, of course, is on an island. We screen people before they get on the boat. We screen them again when they get on the island. We screen them before they go in the Statue of Liberty. But the mall is wide open. I mean, it is a, it's an open. But we did have, you know, we had no, no climb fence around that whole area around, around the, around where the concert and the speech was going to go on by the President. Yes, we're able to add some security there, but it's always a risk these days. You know, we live, unfortunately, live in a dangerous world. And when the US Is, is, you know, taking on, you know, groups like Iran that are funding 24 different terror groups could come from everywhere. And I think, you know, it was widely reported there was, there was specific threats around the UFC fight as well in terms of that activity. So it's something that, something that when we're doing these public events, we have to monitor. But I just, again, Want to give a shout out to the great job that everybody's doing. And of course, this is part of President TRUMP Making D.C. safe and beautiful. When he came up with the executive order a year ago saying, we've got if we're the most extraordinary, exceptional country in the world, we've ought to have the most beautiful capital. And with that, the U.S. park Police, which is part of Interior, not to be confused with our great park rangers, but it's a special force that George Washington created in 1791 that does watch over the Statue of Liberty, the National Mall, and the Golden Gate Recreation Area. And this group, we've doubled the size of it. We've recruited talented, experienced law enforcement from other agencies that want to come to work for an agency that actually does law enforcement. We reinstated their authorities. Like being able to pursue, I mean, when I got here, I was like doing a ride along, and I found out that the prior administration had taken away the US Park Police ability to actually pursue someone. They pulled over and be like, as a former governor, I'm like, why would you have a highway patrol if they couldn't pursue somebody? So just some common sense things. And then President Trump, you know, over 1,000 graffiti sites gone, 150 homeless encampments. People that are humanely relocated to where they can have services, but they just can't live in public spaces. 22 fountains going back again that have had not water running for years. The 48 monuments, I mean, D.C. has never looked better and statistically never been SAFER, like at 125 years. And President Trump's just laid out a blueprint. Any city could do this. I mean, pick a city. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Portland. They could all do what President Trump is doing. It's just a function of leadership.

You know, fellas, if we can go full screen for a moment, I want to show the Interior Secretary something here from the Memorial Bridge. This is the President just posting this. He's very proud of the fact that they've re gilded the arts of war sculptures. This would be the bridge that connects Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial. And they're taking down the scaffolding. As long as I've been in Washington, D.C. that's about 16 years now, these have not looked anywhere near as good. They've been re gilded and now all the scaffolding is coming down. Mr. Secretary, these are even the smallest details. Tell us about the passion that goes into this. To what extent is it the President's judgment that's motivating this? And how involved are you in making

these specific decisions on this one, with the RE Gilding very much involved with my team and the President, this was pointed out. You know, the President has an eye for detail. He sees these kinds of things. He asks about them. We dig into it. We find out that those things had not been re gilded since 1971. They were so stained that no one actually knew they were gold anymore. They were like two things. And there's four of these statues coming off two different bridges. These two, the arts of war, sacrifice and valor. That work has been going on for the last four months. Dedicated specialist RE Gilders going inside that building, that structure and doing that work. And now with the Fourth of July, as you say, that scaffolding coming down, the shrouds coming down, and we're going to be able to see what the original glory of these statues were. There's two more of them now that are under shrouds that are being worked on. The team that has finished these has moved over and do the other too. But when you're coming into the Lincoln Memorial into Washington D.C. from, from Reagan Airport, you know, from the other bridge that comes across, it is, it's going to be a. That's the, that's the front door, if you will, as you're coming across the Potomac. And you're going to be shocked at how beautiful These statues are.19ft high. Those equestrian statues are.

It's amazing. I mean, it is beautiful. There's, it's, there's something really valuable, I think, to the human spirit. When you see beauty, especially when you arrive in Washington D.C. what a difference Union Station is now. Just like how clean it is and, and the fountain is operating and all the homeless people are gone because as you pointed out just a moment ago, they're being cared for. They're actually like in shelters now, which is like, you know, what, what was the status quo before people were just allowed to rot on the street. And then everybody was made kind of like sad by the fact that their nation's capital looks like crap.

Doug Burgum
Well, it was. And when I talk about these 150 and homeless encampments, most of those were on public spaces in either the circles, the squares, the parks, or as you say, Union Station was basically if someone arrived in our city, flew to New York, came by train to our capital from around the world their first time, they basically got off the train into a homeless encampment inside the station. You know, partnering with our great Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, who's got responsibility for Union Station, we've Got the National Park Service interior, outside in Columbus Circle. But Columbus Circle, that was a Hamas covered, pro Hamas graffiti site. And it was basically a homeless camp surrounded by a protest camp. And that was what you saw when you came in and think. And that entire thing has been restored. The fountain is flowing. That was a 1912. That was over 115 years ago, that Columbus statue. It's Carrera marble vents. It's like it's the same material that's in the Trevi Fountain in Rome. And nobody knew that. We've had congressmen say, I didn't know it was a fountain. They've been here for 20 years.

So, again. But this was, again, President Trump setting this high bar, as you say, pride in our country, pride in our capital, the fact that we can have safe and beautiful spaces for people to live. And President Trump is doing this in a city which is 95% registered Democrats. Okay. This is. When I go back, it's leadership that matters. It's commitment. And I should also point out, people say, where's the money coming from? During his first administration, President Trump pushed for and got signed the Great American Outdoors act, which was the greatest bill ever for doing deferred maintenance on our national parks. And all of this, the National Mall, the circles. Like yesterday, we rededicated Logan Circle, you know, completely restoring it earlier this year. Dupont Circle. Those are all national parklands. President Trump's action in his first term is helping provide the funding to allow us to go out and get it done. And you want to talk about a rejuvenated group, how about the national park team members, some of which are historic renovation specialists that were working someplace where they got to sit and watch these parks, these circles and these squares get overtaken by homeless encampments, by people that are graffiti artists, and then not have no support from the White House or the Secretary of Interior to actually go do their job and fix it. I mean, the amount of pride and energy and positivity among these dedicated federal team members, I mean, they're over the moon. Whether it's being able to enforce the law or being able to do the work to restore these statues. I mean, it's really fun to see people energized, because now what they came to do, the purpose in their work, they're getting a chance to do it and make a difference for the people that live here and visit here.

Yeah, it's nice to be able to do your job and see the fruits of your labors. What do you think of the people, the lefties who have been destroying some of these projects. So you are working to restore them. And then you've got people who hate President Trump who are rooting on the destruction of the Reflecting Pool or actively vandalizing it. What is that?

Doug Burgum
Secretary well, Vince, I don't know. It sort of crossed over from tragedy to comedy at some point when you've got the pro algae protesters, you know, people dressed up like, dressed up like next to the Reflecting Pool. The Reflecting Pool, you know, was built in 1922, the same time the Lincoln Memorial. It's literally part of the Lincoln Memorial. And so if somebody's, you know, using a box cutter to cut up the, the Reflecting Pool, it's really no different in the eyes of the law than if you came in and threw a bucket of red paint on Lincoln statue. I mean, these are our national monuments. They're protected. And it is, you know, maybe it's overused, maybe not. But on the, you know, Trump derangement syndrome, if somehow you think you're helping America by attacking one of our monuments and the Reflecting Pool is designed to reflect. And what does it reflect? Lincoln and Washington memorials. So are you, are these people attacking America, attacking Lincoln, attacking Washington, attacking our own country? I'm not sure what's driving that. But, you know, President Trump absolutely dedicated on the Reflecting Pool. This thing was leaking 45,000 gallons a day. It's a 2,000 foot long pool, nearly a half a mile long. It's got two and a half miles of expansion joints. The expansion joints were leaking and we fixed it. And now there's, you know, there's stories out about, oh, that, you know, this or that and the whole thing, I mean, you know, post fireworks, because a number of those 10 fireworks stations were right along the Reflecting Pool. So every year after fireworks, even if it's a smaller show, we got to drain the pool, get all the fireworks debris out of the pool, you know, take a look at repairs. But, you know, having, you know, it's in, it's working, it's the most beautiful it's ever been. And now, now as we're in there, it's about 99.7% of the, of the surface is good. So thank goodness, you know, between the vandalism and other things went on, it's like, you know, less than 1/3 of 1%. That repair work's going on. It'll be back to its full beauty shortly.

There was a media conspiracy theory that there was no vandalism at the Reflecting Pool. They kept saying, and I believe they said it directly to you in a number of interviews. But if I recall correctly, Mr. Secretary, you said that you actually have some very real evidence of the people who were wielding box cutters against the Reflecting Pool. Is there video or something of that?

Doug Burgum
Yeah, there's some video. Initially, when we put it in, we just. No one ever thought like, wow, someone's going to attack the Reflecting Pool. I mean, I feel like the. You know what? The Reflecting Pool needs a special security detail. I mean, the Reflecting Pool maybe should be nominated for man of the Year or something because it's gotten so much. The Constitution Gardens pool next door is very jealous because it's gotten almost no attention in the Reflecting Pool. It's become the focal point of the world. But it is. Yeah, there is that. That's going through the courts. You know, there been a number of arrests that were made. And again, but we're moving on. And again, I think we want to focus on the big thing, which is President Trump's amazing blueprint for any American city, on if you want to have a clean, beautiful, safe city in America, you can do it. And so the mayors and governors that are blaming the president for their troubles is bizarre because they have every tool they need to fix these. Fix these issues.

Let me ask you about American energy, because this is a part of your portfolio, too. This is a big deal. A lot of Americans are always looking for the cheapest, most abundant energy they can have because they know how important it is for their life to flourish. What do you see going forward now in the next year or so? How's the American energy picture look?

Doug Burgum
Well, President Trump has completely transformed it in the most positive way possible. Eighteen months ago, the Biden administration, you know, had a ban on LNG exports. They were blocking both the leasing and the permitting of oil and gas development on federal lands. That's public land that belongs to all of your listeners. You know, if all your listeners are feeling like, oh, there's a lot of national debt, they need to also understand that there's a lot of national assets. We just have to use them smart, sustainably, leave them in better shape than what we found them. But, you know, we are loaded. This is a rich, abundant country just on interior land alone. I mean, almost 30% of the oil and gas in America comes from interior land. We inherited just in one one office of the Bureau of Land Management in New Mexico, Carlsbad. The Biden administration had left behind 5,600 unprocessed permits to drill. Okay. People were, you know, trying to drill to produce oil to send a check, a royalty check to the American people. And so when a company is willing to bid to have an opportunity to develop our resource that belongs to the public, and they pay us a royalty, you know, I consider those folks a customer because they're writing a check to the American people. And our, you know, we're following the law and we're serving a thing. And what do we have now? We've got record oil production, production in America versus 18 months ago, record LNG exports. We've displaced two thirds of Russians gas sales into Western Europe. So we're defunding the Russian war machine. And President Trump's energy dominance is all about having abundance for affordability at home, but also having. So you don't. So our allies and friends don't have to buy from people that are using their oil sales to fund terrorism. Venezuela, we turned a sanctioned adversary into a strategic ally in 45 minutes, thanks to President Trump's courage and the execution of our fantastic military. All of that Venezuelan oil now coming to Gulf of America refineries, helping lower the price. President Trump unleashing Alaskan energy, I mean, the sum of everything that he's done has moved the geopolitical center of energy from the other part of the world, from the Middle east back to North America in the Western Hemisphere. And that's going to pay benefits. Vince, America has the lowest cost, most secure energy source in the world now. And going forward for decades and decades, I mean, everyone who's listening, your kids, your grandkids, everyone, is going to receive a economic dividend, if you will, from the fact that President Trump understands that energy policy drives national security, it drives the economy, it drives prosperity, it drives everything. The US Is better positioned than every single one, every other country in the world. We are the best position.

Yeah, I remember during the Biden era, when they were talking about oil output, they're like, hey, the oil output's up. Why is everyone complaining about Biden's energy policy? I said the only reason oil output was up was because President Trump's first term. It takes four years. It takes four years for an oil well to get up and running. So President Trump gets a ton of oil wells up and running, and then Biden is taking credit for a Trump win. So this is once again one of those moments. And finally, you know, on. On energy, do you ever feel like we're going to get to a point where we are fully insulated from any chaos and, say, the Strait of Hormuz, that American energy production and refining is so prolific that we will never see energy impacts within our borders because of that. Do you anticipate that happening?

Doug Burgum
Yeah, absolutely. And we're, we're on our way. And that's again, part of the moves that are being made in Alaska. Venezuela will definitely help that domestically, the lower 48 also in the Gulf of America, all of these things are moving us in that direction. And many states are insulated. We have a few, I'll note California. California, at the time of the latest, you know, conflict starting this February in Iran, they were importing over 60% of their oil from foreign countries. The number one country California, California was importing from was Iraq, which comes through the Strait of Hormuz. This California doesn't need to get any foreign oil. They could be getting it all domestically, but they were again, shutting down their own oil industry. In California. They used to be one of the top two or three producing states. Now they're not even in the top 10. They have shut down refineries. They used to have 35 refineries. Now they went from eight to seven to six. Right now is happening, they're going to be down to six. So they're shorter refining capacity. So not only are they importing oil every day, about 25% of the gasoline consumed in the Golden State, which has more internal combustion vehicles than any other state, the state that was going to go all electric, they have more internal combustion vehicles than any other state, they're importing 25% of their gasoline. So if you, you have a one in four chance or one fourth of your gallons, however you want to think about it, when you're filling up in California, it was probably refined somewhere on the other side of the planet and then shipped here in a boat. So there's no saving the environment when you use foreign oil and foreign refinery and then you send it belching across the Pacific to get here to put in your tank. So the whole policy is folly. It's not helping the environment. All it's doing is raising prices on Californians. And so when we talk about the average price of gasoline in America as a metric, it is $0.50 higher for gas on average in every blue state versus every red state. So if you want a tip and you want lower gasoline, drive across the border. You know, go to, go to a state where the state legislature is controlled by Republicans. And if you've got sound energy policy, you're going to have lower energy prices. And then these folks are, you know, then they're blaming President Trump for their own thing. I mean, last year, even under the last year of Biden, the lowest prices in California were higher than the highest prices in any of the other states. So it is, it is amazing that again, I mean, California is now leading in one thing and that's out migration because no one's going to be able to afford to live there because, you know, Silicon Valley's leaving, who's going to, who's, you know, AI requires energy. And the price of electricity is also affected by these policies. The states that over rotated towards this idea of an energy transition, that somehow we're going to go from affordable, reliable and secure American energy for electricity to something that was intermittent, dependent on the weather, foreign sourced, highly subsidized, that was energy subtraction. These states were ending up with less electricity and therefore their prices went up. And so again, the price of electricity, you know, we have people trying to turn this into an election issue. President Trump has the roadmap on how to have lower prices for electricity and lower prices for energy. And it has to do with energy abundance, not some energy transition, which is a lie because it was really energy subtraction.

And we've got the best environmental standards too for how we pull this energy and this idea that California is buying it from overseas, it's like being pulled up in the dirtiest way possible and then refined in China, which is in a full blown arms race with us for refineries right now. So there's going to be a redistribution of where the jobs are going in part because of, of who's got the smartest, most affordable energy policies.
