Hey, everybody. Welcome to Vince on a Friday. It is so good to have you with us. As always, we have a big show ahead. Have we instigated a new level of conflict between the leader of the country and the leader of the Republicans in the Senate? Maybe. We'll talk about that in just a moment. And the steps that led to this moment. All ahead on this edition of vince. And is the Save America act in many ways the ticket for the Republicans to win big? And are Democrats fearful that it will actually work? We'll explore that and so much more. All ahead on another busy edition of Vince. It's always great to have you with us. We've got a great sponsor to start the show with for us today, Helix. We love Helix mattresses. During the warmer months, summer, I pay a lot more attention to my sleep quality because it's harder to get good sleep when it's so warm out. But with a Helix mattress, it's made all the difference in the world. I've got the cooling upgrade on my midnight luxe model and, and it is perfect. It's easily one of the best upgrades I've ever made to my sleep routine before. I before, rather, I'd wake up throughout the night on my old mattresses. I'd feel too warm, uncomfortable, never felt fully rested in the morning. One thing I really appreciate with Helix is not only the great sleep, but how easy they made the whole process. Allison and I took their sleep quiz. We answered just a couple of questions about how we sleep and then, and then they matched us up with a mattress that actually fit our preferences. And since making that switch, we fall asleep more quickly, we stay asleep longer and we wake up feeling much more refreshed. That's a very big deal, not only for yourself, but for your spouse. You want your spouse to wake up happy, too. That's a nice feeling. Plus, Helix ships for free, right to your door. Setup is easy. They're back with a 120 night sleep sleep trial and a limited lifetime warranty. It takes a lot of the guesswork out of finding the right mattress. And Helix has an exclusive offer for you. Just go to helixsleep.com Vince 27% off sitewide. That's helixsleep.com Vince 27 percent off site wide exclusive for you. Helixsleep.com Vince Boom. You know, it's, it's wild. Did I do that? Is that what happened? To start with a little Steve Urkel for you this morning. Did I do that? What just happened? You know, the president of the United States went to Georgia. Two nights ago, the Donnie went down to Georgia and when he got there on that rally stage, you and I began to perceive that something was changing about his relationship with John Thune, the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, because the president was pretty explicitly calling him out by name and declaring that the real impediment to election integrity in the United States right now is Republicans in the Senate. Quite unfortunately, this is the President of the United States. Now, he's say he's stating something you and I have known for a year now at least, and he. But the fact that he's stating it so publicly is a sign that we're reaching a new level in this battle. Reminder, here's what the president said two nights ago in Georgia about the Save America Act. And of course, as we start, I want to make sure to gavel in as always. Got to do that. The Save America Act. Here's the president.
Donald Trump
Finally, we have to pass the Save America act to defend American elections. And I have to say Mike Johnson and Congress have done a great job, but we're having a hard time in the Senate. The Senate, what they're doing is just, it's just not right. Congress is going to pass it again. They passed it three times. They're going to pass it again. It's like the Senate is a place that you send things when you want them to die. We can't do this. And we're not going to take this any longer. We're not going to take it. You know, I'm trying to be nice, trying to be really nice. You saw we had a big victory last night in Arizona. I've had victories everywhere. But we're not going to, we're not going to be able to take it much longer. When they can't get past voter id, proof of citizenship, no mail in ballots because they're crooked as hell.
Vince
We're not going to be able to take it much longer. So who should we call, Mr. President? How do we resolve this? Well, he had advice on that, too. Here's the president now again, two nights ago telling everyone they need to call John Thune. Take a listen to the president talking about this, sir.
Donald Trump
Everybody called John Thune at the Senate. He's the leader of the Republican Party. And tell him to get this stuff approved.
Vince
Call Jon Thune. That's who you got to call. You got to call Jonathan. Now you probably are wondering to yourself, Vince, how do I call Jonathan? You ready? You have a piece of paper? Write this down. I'm going to, I'm going to give you the number here. And as I give you the number, of course, when you make this phone call, be polite, be sincere and be insistent that we get the Save America act passed, not merely that you want it passed, but that you want him to employ the means to actually pass it. Here's the number for all patriotic Americans who'd like to make the call today. It's 202-224-2321. And if we could put that in chat, maybe we can pin that today on the chat. If one of the mods could do that for us on the live show, that is 202-224-2321 is how you reach out to John Thune, the president of the United States, asking for that, that homework to get that done. So there's the president. He's being a little more explicit about this subject now. So one would conclude, as I did yesterday with you, that John Thune, that rather, Donald Trump's patience is running out with John Thune. So yesterday at the conclusion of our of our program, you're probably wondering, well, Vince, what do you have to do with all this other than the fact that we cover this so routinely? Great question. I'm glad you asked. Yesterday morning, right. As we concluded our podcast. It is, let's see, nine o' clock Eastern time, right? As the podcast is over, I get a call from my White House correspondent, Reagan Reese. And Reagan, as she does with some frequency, will call me and we'll talk about the day's events and what questions she might ask at the White House. And one of the questions I put forward to her yesterday was, well, why don't you ask him straight up? Ask Caroline Levitt when you're in the press conference. Has the president's patience run out? Is it running out with John Thune? Well, Caroline Levitt then answered our question, the question that this audience has, is that actually happening? Here's that moment yesterday in the White House press briefing and this blew up Washington. Watch this. One question for you on Thune and
Caroline Levitt
then one on Darlene Graham. The president seemed yesterday frustrated with Leader Thune when he was speaking in Georgia. Is his patience running out with Leader Thune? And then the president recently endorsed Darling Graham right after her appointment to Senate. What constitutes to endorse her so quickly?
Harmeet Dhillon
Ms.
Caroline Levitt
The President met with Darlene and thought she will be a great representative for the great people of South Carolina and will carry on her brother's legacy of public service in that beautiful state. So the president is fully supportive of Darlene and her honorable decision to run and again to continue her brother's legacy. With respect to your first question on remind me, Leader Thune, if his patience is running out. Ms. Look, the President spoke about this directly yesterday. His patience is running out. He wants to see as much of the Save America passed as possible by the August recess. He knows that's what the American people want to see passed. He was just traveling on the road yesterday, spoke about this and there were very loud applause from the people in the audience, the everyday Americans, because voter ID is common sense. They want proof of citizenship in our elections. And the president feels very strongly about that. And I would just add, you know, the American people over elected overwhelmingly Republicans to lead not just this White House but also the House and the Senate. The House did its job. The Senate needs to do its job too. I know it's a brief briefing today, but you're going to hear from the president directly twice today at 2:30.
Vince
And also the final question, the final answer at the White House press briefing yesterday. Isn't it nice to have a real White House correspondent inside of that room? Isn't it nice to have somebody asking questions sincerely for the American people? Isn't it nice that we have a White House that will actually answer them? Isn't it just also nice? It's wonderful. It's wonderful. Now that nice moment caused a lot of chaos in Washington, D.C. yesterday. Things apparently reached a new level immediately just by Caroline Levitt stating the obvious that the president of the United States is running out of patience with John Thune. Well, John Thune then instantly lashed back at Caroline Levitt. Now I'll note he lashes back specifically at her. Of course, whatever ire he has on this subject should be directed at the impediments to passing the Save America act that exist within the Republican Party in the Senate. And also he doesn't have the courage to go after President Trump directly, so he goes after Caroline Levitt. And here's what he'd said yesterday right after all of this. And just just to give you a sense of how big this was in D.C. the White House account, the White House account immediately shared the clip of Caroline Levitt yesterday. This is the rapid response account at the White House. They shared this. Additionally, Elon Musk's America PAC also posted this clip online immediately yesterday that the president's patience is running out. So that's that's great on all counts because it means that we've the pressure is on, ladies and gentlemen. And here's what John Thune Told Punchbowl yesterday, the the Capitol Hill news outlet, they wrote this. Thune fires back, saying she or somebody else ought to get on the phone and get the votes. Right? So instead of pointing the finger at Republicans, they might think about going after the people who are stopping it on the floor, which is the Democrats. And if there are Republicans that they think are gettable, get on the phone. Let's get them to yes now chat. Whose job is it to get the votes? Is it Caroline Levitt or is it John Thunes? You know the answer to that. In fact, it's not just John Thunes. It's all of Republican leadership in the United States Senate, and that includes the majority whip, John Barrasso, who should be whipping these votes, who should be whipping the effort to get the Save America act passed. So Thune once again is pretending like it's everybody else's responsibility. Caroline Levitt, that is her responsibility. What, are you going to ask random dog catchers to do your job, too? This has nothing to do with her job. Her job is to be the spokeswoman for the President of the United States. And she's not conveying her own opinion on this subject. No doubt she agrees with the president, I'm sure of that. But she's telling you the president's opinion. She said his patience is running out. So why are you attacking her? Why are you suggesting that she needs to get on the phone and work for these votes? Why don't you go after the president if that's what you want to do?
Reagan Reese
It is.
Vince
It is. So, I mean, it's so snake like, actually, the way John Thune is reacting to this. But Thune clearly bothered by the fact that the White House just said something that was true. So there we go. That, that's the sequence of events. And then what happened yesterday among the rest of the Senate? Well, Republican senators, establishment ones, began closing ranks immediately around John Thune yesterday to protect him from the White House. We have to protect him. And, and you know, and among them, of course, is Thumbelina. Thumbelina immediately reacting to this. Yeah. The Washington examiner had an excellent piece on the subject. The examiner piece was GOP rallies around Thune after White House says Trump's patience is running out. Thom Tillis, who is retiring at the end of his term in early January and is among a quartet of Senate Republicans who oppose the Safe America act, said that, quote, anybody in the White House who thinks he's not a good leader isn't qualified for their job.
Harmeet Dhillon
What?
Vince
Anybody in the White House who Thinks he's not a good leader. Who just said that? John Thune needs to be a leader. I believe that was the President of the United States. So Thom's position is that President Trump's not qualified to be president. Okay, you're not qualified to be a senator. You need to go and thank God you're retiring. Thom Tillis saw the writing on the wall. He's getting out. Mike Rounds of South Dakota said sometimes the messenger isn't popular, meaning John Thune. He's like, oh, well, people are just being mean to him. But the bottom line is we just don't have the votes, said Thune's home state colleague. It's a good bill. We don't have the votes. Take 60 votes, he lies. It doesn't take 60 votes. It takes 51, if you have the courage to actually pass it. That's just true. So once again, the lies isn't amazing. And I know this is disheartening. It really is annoying to have Republicans lie so easily, so casually. Take 60 votes. Sorry, we can't do it. No, it doesn't. 60 votes is what it takes to end debate early. How many times have we had this conversation? Have the debate, then pass it with 51, or convince people to join you and then end the debate with the 60 vote cloture. You can do that. The Civil Rights act was passed that way. Susan Collins, a centrist up for reelection, says the examiner. And a battleground race, who was also against the proposal, added, quote, I think th enjoys well deserved support from the Congress. Who puts members of Congress in office. Who does that? Who's in charge of that? Question should be the American people. Actually, the American people's not. Are not happy. This is why they keep calling the phone number. This is why we have to keep calling. What's the number again? 202, 224, 23, 21. And leaving polite but sincere messages for Jon Thune about how we want the Save America actually passed. Do the job, you're the leader. Be a leader. Collins says, I think Congress is very happy with John Thune. Well, I got bad news for Congress. The rest of us aren't. And then there was this punch ball again. That Capitol Hill news outlet, they had another quote here. This comes to us from some random longtime Republican operative who was too scared to put his name on the record, but told this guy, Andrew Desiderio, what he actually thought about all this. He says, you know, Trump knows full well that he can't flip these votes. Hell, he personally came to the Capitol to berate Senate Republicans into voting for safe. And he left empty handed. Look at who we're talking about. Murkowski, McConnell, Tillis, Collins, all members who he has savaged at one point or another. And now he needs their help. All of this comes back to one thing. What happens when Trump can't do something himself? He blames someone else. John Thune is Mr. Someone Else. Oh, so, okay, so you see, establishment Republicans and cowardly Republican operatives who refuse to put their name on the record on this subject are claiming that President Trump is just looking for some sort of patsy, some sort of fall guy, some somebody who can just stand in for him because he couldn't get the Save America act passed because it was a personal failure for President Trump. That's what this guy wants you to believe. Won't put his name on the record. Also stating that Murkowski, McConnell, Tellis and Collins, they all have such personal loathing for President Trump that they won't do the right thing for the country because their animus is guiding their decision making. You see this? All members who Trump has savaged at one point or another. And now he needs their help, but they won't give it to him because he savaged them. And these pathetic little snowflakes can't handle the fact that the President got aggressive with them in public because he wanted some priority, perhaps the Save America act to be passed on behalf of the American people. Why does President Trump savage anyone? Why does President Trump get aggressive with anyone? The answer is always because it serves the fundamental purpose of pursuing the best outcome for the American people. That's why he engages in all of these fights. He doesn't need any of this. The guy was worth billions of dollars. He didn't need to become the President of the United States. And every time a Murkowski, a McConnell, a Tillis, a Collins, a Cassidy, a Cornyn, every time one of these guys comes out and says, I'm not doing it because I don't like how Trump treated me, all you're doing is ratifying our judgment to throw you out in the first place. That's it. Every time Cornyn whines about President Trump now, it confirms that Texas voters made the right decision. Every time Bill Cassidy whines about some Trump priority, it confirms that Louisiana voters made the right decision. Is this frustrating? No doubt. But if there are signs of encouragement in the midst of all of this is that the President is done with these games. His patience is running out. And the White House said it yesterday after we asked this question. And boy, it kick started a big storm inside of Washington, D.C. and I love it. I love it. I think it's, I think it's totally appropriate that this storm is underway because in the midst of it, everyone's being exposed for who they truly are. Now, Mike Lee, who's again a champion here on Save America act, he responded this way to all of it yesterday. He said it's hard to accept that any senator, Democrat or Republican, would not want the Save America act to pass. It's even harder to understand why some who should be the most supportive of the bill seem oddly content with letting it fail or even eager to hasten its demise. It makes no sense. Once again, Mike Lee is being nice. Sometimes we say too nice to the people who are working against us here. The reality is Democrats want voter fraud and Republicans, some of them hate Trump, so they refuse to do the right thing. Others are too lazy to do their jobs. And everyone who's standing in our way right now needs to be voted out so we can get real election integrity. It's just true. Michael Lee stays in the fight, but that's the situation we're in right now. All right. More in just a moment. In fact, we had a great moment yesterday when a Republican senator was confronted on national television live. And the the question was really simple. What have you done for us lately? Have you done anything worthwhile? An amazing clip. I'll have that in just a moment for you in just a moment. And then we've got, I've got great, a great interview with Harmeet Dylan coming up. You got to hear from Harmeet. We've got her on the show today because Harmey Dylan has information to share with us on all of the election integrity problems going on in in states across the country. Don't miss this. It's all coming up on this Edition. Events. I want to thank one of the fine sponsors who make all of this chaos possible. That's Quince. We love Quince. All right, let me, I'll take, let me take things in order here because I want to stay on the Save America act for a moment. Then we'll get to a Republican senator being confronted on national television, I promise. But on the Save America act, you know, Democrats are worried that if this passes, not just if it passes, just as long as this debate stays alive, that is a huge electoral victory for Republicans. You realize how absurd it is that Democrats refuse to support a piece of legislation that 90% of the country supports voter ID. Only American citizens vote. Get the non citizens off the voting rolls. Everybody supports this stuff. So as long as the debate is is happening very publicly around this subject. Republicans derive a benefit from being on the right side of this insofar as we have a party that is. Meanwhile Democrats have no good arguments against it. It is a political stinker for them. It stinks so badly that the raging Cage and James Carville even lying in bed in an interview, what is he doing lying in bed in an interview can admit that the Save America act is a massive winner for Republicans and he wants to get past it as quickly as possible. Here he is, Carville Watch.
James Carville
I don't know if we're not better off saying, okay, we'll take data alternative id, bring your gas bill or your light bill or something because for whatever reason this shit polls at 75%. It doesn't make. I don't think people are aware of it. I think people assume that voter fraud happened again. I don't even want to say it's. If you want to say, infinitesimal. I don't know if I could think of a Word that would be even narrower than that. I would say that but. And I don't like when we say, well look it's a very minor problem but you know, you got to admit it barely exists. And it's just, it doesn't make any sense. Having said that, we are not going to win the war against some kind of id. It doesn't make any sense, it doesn't fix anything. But maybe you just go along with it, move to the next level.
Unknown Republican commentator (possibly a guest or co-host)
Well James, let me disagree. We have voter ID in most states. Most states have voter id. What they're trying to do with this so called SAVE act is require what they say is proof of citizenship which is either a birth certificate, which I don't know, 25, you know, people have a hard. I went a couple years ago, I was going to take a trip overseas and, and about 10 days ahead of time I couldn't find, I spent 10 days trying to get my birth certificate or secondly a passport which most people don't have. And thirdly, if you talk about your birth certificate and you didn't get to keep your maiden name, my wife let me keep mine. If you didn't get to keep your maiden name, you're in trouble. So I think you're absolutely right on voter id, but we basically have it
James Carville
again, if we have it, just say, okay, pass the law. I mean I, look, I think I
Unknown Republican commentator (possibly a guest or co-host)
don't want to pass.
James Carville
I never had a problem with it. I'm just saying of all the things people, if Every poll shows 75 or better say we should have some kind of an ID to vote. Some say, I don't know what it is but just, just quit fighting and go along with it.
Unknown Republican commentator (possibly a guest or co-host)
And so let me ask you, what are you going along great with what?
Vince
Enough, get out. Get rid of these guys. So James Carville is just saying, will you just pass it, please. This is so stupid. We're destroying ourselves as a party. Now Carville, some, perhaps nobody's read him in on this particular subject but his party is deriving power from fraud. This is the reason they don't support it. They don't want to check id. They're perfectly content with non citizens interfering in our elections. They're perfectly content with people interfering in elections who shouldn't be there. In fact, they're trying to protect that scheme which is why they don't want an election integrity bill to actually pass. Carville's not read in on that subject right now. So he's thinking, he's like, what is this? This is crazy. Why are we fighting back against this? This is only hurting us politically. Hilarious, by the way. I know. It's, like, so weird. And for those of you not watching the podcast right now, if you, if you're just listening, you should know that James Carville was doing that podcast interview lying in bed. I swear to you. I think he put the laptop on his belly. He's lying in bed. You can see the headboard behind him. He's got a pillow behind his head. He's wearing his, his USMC hat as he often wears. He did serve a couple of years in the Marine Corps. Thank him for his service. He's a psychopath, but thank him for his service. I don't know. I'm going to be honest with you right now about this, about this interview. I am really looking forward to getting to the age of where I don't give a shit about anything. To the point, to the point that I can lie in bed like James Carville and do a zoom call or an interview and be like, yeah, whatever. There's something, there's something kind of awesome about that. I don't know, he's. He's such a psycho. But that. There's something kind of crazy and wonderful about just lying in bed. Just being like, another thing. Oh, it's so funny. It's so funny. Anyway, yeah, so he's freaking out about it because this is like a huge electoral stinker for us. Why are we getting. Look at the guy. He's lying in bed. Oh, what a whack job.
James Carville
Yeah.
Unknown Republican commentator (possibly a guest or co-host)
Yep.
Vince
Anyway, so he's, he's, he's hurt. He's annoyed by it. Now, having said that, that's obviously a reason that Republicans. One more reason that Republicans should be fighting to pass the freaking thing. James Carville recognizes if voters have a legitimate say in our electoral process, they're going to look at the Save America Act's passage and go, holy crap, what a great thing Republicans just did. Well, then just do it, you morons.
James Carville
Do it
Vince
now. And speaking of Republican senators, another one of them stopped by the. I think this was on Fox Business yesterday. Larry Kudlow. I like Larry Kudlow a lot. Larry Kudlow is really talented. Larry Kudlow did something that I think a lot of television hosts should be doing, which is demanding answers from Republican senators and saying, hey, what have you done for us lately? What have you done for us lately? Watch some of this exchange. Larry Kudlow and Senator James Lankford. And Lankford. I don't think he was ready for this at all.
Reagan Reese
Watch this right now, you, the leadership in both houses are bungling everything. Sir, I say that with all due respect and we are personal friends. It's not per. But you're bungling everything. Nothing is getting done. Your messaging is non existent. You've lost your swag, your swagger, your riz or whatever the young people say. No one knows what the heck you're doing, sir. They have no idea.
Larry Kudlow
Yeah, you're welcome. And this is part of the challenge we've got with all of our media friends out there that are continuing to be able to beat up on Republicans and say Republicans are all the problems. But apparently the socialist Democrats in New York City, they seem to be perfect because most conservative media right now is beating up on Republicans and just ignoring the socialists who are running rampant all over the country. So I look back on what happened with the one big beautiful bill. Look at the housing bill we just passed. There's a lot of things that are going on that are good.
Reagan Reese
And I understand nobody attacked Madami more than I have. For heaven's sake. That wasn't the problem.
Larry Kudlow
I wouldn't say that. Just a about you. I was saying, isn't the this is the challenge that we're up against.
Reagan Reese
What is it that your policy is, Senator Lankford, my friend? What is your where are the tax cuts? Where the spending cuts? Where's the waste, fraud and corruption reduction? Where is all of that? Where is the reconciliation bill? Where's the straight talk and messaging for the midterms? Where's the growth messaging? Where's that we're going to make it better for taxpayers and working folks messaging. Come on, Senator.
Larry Kudlow
Glad to be able to take it on, Larry.
Interviewer from The Economist
Glad.
Larry Kudlow
And again, you and I are friends. We've talked through all this stuff before. So let's just start with last year and the and what it's coming out right now and all the tax policy, obviously tax rates didn't go up. We dealt with permanent expensing for all of our businesses in trying to be able to make sure they're growing, they're growing. The reason we're actually dealing with growth right now, you are an expert on this, you know it full well, is because the changes we made in last year's tax bill, we'd love to do a lot more on that and we will be able to do a lot more on that, but we're still getting all of those things implemented right now. The housing bill that we just passed starts a whole different process of taking the federal regulations, trying to make housing cheaper for Everybody, right now, all the different pieces on fraud are being implemented on snap, on the food stamp fraud that's been happening around the country, that's being implemented by right now, that is billions of dollars in savings. It's also putting work requirements on individuals and taking away the rights of people that are illegally present United States to be able to get these extra benefits. All those are things that are happening right now because Republicans actually put those in place.
Vince
And then Kudlow goes on to be like, wait a second, you just said two different bills. One of them had value. But that was last year, he said. Kudlow goes on, he's like, hey, the one being beautiful bill, you can't ride that forever. I mean, obviously people should reflect that on that in the midterms, but that was last year. What have you done for me lately? And he goes, in the housing bill, Kudlow points out, that was like an Elizabeth Warren special, that that really was not fundamentally the kind of bill that's going to lead to long term prosperity in the United States. What are you talking about? And then getting control of fraud. Notice that the little kind of the game that Lankford is playing here, getting control of fraud, going after the fraudsters, all that stuff. Which branch of government is doing that? It's not the Senate, it's not the legislative branch, it's the executive branch. That's J.D. vance's squad that's going after all these animals who've been stealing from the American taxpayer. So as Lankford is pawing around for an excuse for the behavior of Senate Republicans, he starts taking credit for things that JD Vance has been running. What? Okay, I want to go back to the, towards the beginning of the clip though too. He goes, yeah, well, the reason people don't think we're doing very much is we're getting constantly attacked by all these conservative commentators when they should be setting their sights on the left. What are you talking about? Those of us who are in the conservative commentating space spend a ton of time talking about the evils of the left. In fact, it's the basis by which we have been supporting the Trump agenda, which is to say we've got to stop these animals, these people, from destroying our country. We have to stop it, which is why we keep voting for Trump, keep pushing the Trump agenda, making it too big to rig. And now that you are in charge, Republicans are. Democrats are not in charge. They're not. Republicans lead the White House, the Senate and the House right now by the grace of the Trump voter. In light of that you have the power to actually make things better and stop the left right now. So to whom should we turn when we want power to actually be used to our benefit? The answer is you. You're a Republican senator. This is why we keep saying we got to get the Save America act passed. I'm not going to turn to the Democrats to get it done because they refuse to get it done. And they're not in charge of the agenda of the United States Senate. You are. Why don't you focus on the party that's out of power? What? We're focused on the party that's in power, and you're disappointing us. And Larry Kudlow was right to call you out about this yesterday. And he just kept doing it. By the way, that clip just keeps going where he's, he's like, I'm not satisfied. That's not, that's not convincing enough. Good for Larry Kudlow. Stay on these guys. All right, more ahead on the program. I have Harmony Dylan with us. I'm going to share some of that with you. Yesterday I had the privilege, as I get every so often to speak to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Harmeet Dillon. Harmeet joined me on the radio program and we talked about all of these revelations out of the Garden State, the state of New Jersey, where we have thousands upon thousands of non citizens who were registering to vote and at least hundreds of them who've been casting ballots. Now, we've talked about all the contours of what we've learned from New Jersey and the implications for the rest of the country. Now, how about some consequences? What's the Justice Department up to right now? Well, Harmony Dillon says you can infer a lot from what she's doing. Listen to this is the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. They handle election law. Harmony Dhillon is on the phone. Great to have you back, Harmony.
Harmeet Dhillon
Thanks for having me. Vince, What.
Vince
What are we to make of this? New Jersey now admitting 6,600 non citizens on the voting rolls. And I just heard from DHS. They believe it's upwards of 35,000. What do you know about this?
Harmeet Dhillon
Well, that's right. DHS has been systematically for the states that have fought us in court and refusing to give us the voter rolls to help us avoid exactly this type of illegal behavior. You know, they're using some publicly available data to send lists of potential non citizens to states, and that list is 35,000 plus for the state of New Jersey. And so what I think is very interesting here, and you listen to the words being used both by the governor and the media, is the dishonesty. So you hear error, you hear glitch, you hear mistake, you hear the software vendor did it, you hear the software registered the voters. We don't register voters. These are all obfuscation and doublespeak designed to conceal the fact that for decades states have refused to do their job under federal law to clean up their voter rolls. And when you combine that with loose vote by mail procedures that came into vogue during COVID you have this perfect storm of illegality. And so this is just the people who raised their hand and said, I'm not a citizen. There are plenty of others who register to vote either mistakenly or deliberately thinking that they're allowed to vote when they do not have legal status in this country as citizens. And so I think is a very widespread problem. I can tell you we're taking it very seriously. It is a crime for election officials to allow people to be on the voter rolls knowing that they're non citizens. And to the extent that New Jersey election officials had any knowledge of this and allowed people to vote when they were not properly entitled to do so, they are at legal risk themselves. And there are hundreds of thousands of non citizens on the voter rolls, according to our most recent count, which is not comprehensive in the United States. And you know, some of these people are voting. It happens in every election cycle where we prosecuted some of them. And so, you know, we're wrapping this up and we are absolutely going to get to the bottom of what happened here.
Vince
How is it that the claim seems to be that 400 non citizens cast ballots in New Jersey, according to the governor, and that they may not have known that they weren't allowed to vote? I don't even understand that. How is that even possible? If you're a non citizen and you cast a ballot in an election, shouldn't a punishment be imposed upon you like you should be deported for having violated our nation's laws?
Harmeet Dhillon
Yeah, I think the only gray area here is for the 6600, a subset, the vast majority of them According to the story being told by the governor, didn't vote. Okay. So if the state registered them to vote after they said, I'm not eligible, that's not on them. That's on the state.
Vince
Right.
Harmeet Dhillon
But then there are the subset of them who said, I'm not eligible. And then they went ahead and voted. They got a ballot in the mail. And I was just reading a story of a, you know, retiree who got $20,000 of Social Security benefits, and he immediately started the process of trying to return them because they weren't his. Like, that's what an honest person does. Right. And if you get a ballot in the mail and you know you're not supposed to vote it, you already said that. You tear it up, you throw it away, you ask the state to fix this error and get off the voter rolls. If you instead decided to vote it, or worse, maybe your defense is somebody came and stole it or ballot harvested it from you or something. I don't know what happened. We're going to get to the bottom of it. Yes, but, you know. Yes. If deliberately voted a ballot knowing that you're not a citizen of the United States, that's crime.
Vince
So I think it's safe to say, based on what you just said, you have a criminal investigation underway into this subject.
Harmeet Dhillon
Right now, I can't confirm or deny the existence of a criminal investigation. I have publicly stated that election officials who knowingly allow this are in breach of criminal law, and we have criminally prosecuted people who've done exactly this. So I think you can infer from that.
Vince
Okay, so have you by any chance talked to the software company? And this may fall into the same answer you just gave me, but the software company released a statement yesterday. Their name was idmia, and they said, we didn't do anything wrong here at all. The data was handled by these state government officials, and they're the ones who failed to prevent noncitizens from appearing on the voting rolls. Has the software company reached out to you and the Justice Department?
Harmeet Dhillon
Look, I mean, I'm not going to get into the details of any investigation that we're doing, but I think it's safe to say that the software company's role in this is something that is certainly relevant. And I will add that the same software company, I think it's got a French parent company, handles the voter rolls for some other states, too. So we will definitely be finding out the point at which Dana is handed off to the state. And it's the state's responsibility. It is the State's responsibility in New Jersey, the Lieutenant governor fills the role of effectively the Secretary of State. Now, what the governor said last a couple of days ago is that all of this happened under Phil Murphy's watch. There is a point in time at which all of these folks who are talking now knew about this. This governor came out and criticized President Trump last Thursday after his speech where he revealed the existence of several streams of interference with our elections from different foreign countries. And, you know, she condemned him. She said he was lying and making things up and gaslighting and, you know, it was like demagoguery. And then just a few days later, she comes out with a statement. So I think the timing of what the governor and her predecessor knew and when they knew it is going to be extremely important to us.
Vince
It seems important because my impression of her statement was that something that this news was going to break one way or the other, and she's trying to frame our understanding of the story. What do you, what do you make of the timing?
Harmeet Dhillon
I do. I mean, look, I don't think it's a coincidence that less than two weeks ago I sent letters to all 50 states, the district of Columbia, saying, hey, if you knowingly allow. Knowingly is a critical word in criminal law, if you knowingly allow non citizens to be on your rotor rolls and at risk of voting, that's a crime and we'll prosecute it. And, you know, I'm glad people are maybe taking it seriously, but I think we've had a long spell of time in our country where people have become very cynical because we've seen, we've seen it happen and no one seems to be getting punished for it. Now, I want to be very fair and clear, when we build a criminal case, we don't do it off of news reports. You know, people are like yelling at me on social media, where are the arrests? Like, I don't know the names of these 400 people. We're going to go in all due diligence and go find them and then confirm that they're not citizens. I don't trust anything the state of New Jersey is saying. But once we get to the bottom of all of that, did they vote? Are they a citizen? Those are the two critical questions for that side of the analysis. You know, we'll find out what happened, we'll find out how big this problem is, and we'll find out how many states this problem exists in. And I will say the 17 states, almost all Republican states, maybe all cooperated with us. We asked Them for the voter rolls. They gave us the voter rolls. We shared data with them. We told them, hey, these are some things you should fix. They're fixing them. Like, what's, what's so hard about that? Like, that's government working together to get things done for the American people. That's how it should be.
Vince
Yes, indeed.
Donald Trump
So.
Vince
So I want to ask you more about that effort in a moment, but just on New Jersey, Governor Sherrill releases this statement. I saw you put out a letter to her asking for all of this information. Tell us who you're talking about. Who are these 400 people who voted? Has the state of New Jersey responded in any way? Have they signaled that they will be getting you that data?
Reagan Reese
That.
Harmeet Dhillon
No, to date. But I'm not the only person here in the building, so it's quite possible someone else on my team may have been in contact with them. But, you know, it's like, it would
Vince
be a priority to tell you that they got a response. Probably.
Harmeet Dhillon
We have an election coming up and let me, let me just tell you, another deadline here, which is typically the voter rolls. I mean, you know, we're getting. It seems like it's the middle of the summer, but we're getting to the point where people are starting to print ballots. And then, you know, we have military voters who have to get ballots even further ahead of time. And so there's a lead time for elections. So it is imperative that New Jersey get all of these people off the voter rolls pronto before they start printing and mailing out ballots. So that better happen.
Vince
So you've been seeking this voter roll information from the states. You started by requesting it voluntarily. You said 17 states have been working with you, but many states are refused. And now you're battling them out in court, including the state of New Jersey, including New Jersey.
Harmeet Dhillon
And we did file with the court in New Jersey that's presiding over this case, an updated filing after the governor's statement saying, hey, this is exhibit A here, why we need this.
Vince
Yes. So the 17 states, let's just start with them. The ones that worked with you, you said you believe they're almost all, if not all Republican states. What, what did you locate in their voter rolls? Did you ever find noncitizens or dead people? Did you find that they weren't as clean as they needed to be?
Harmeet Dhillon
Yeah, we did. I mean, I'm not going to point fingers on any particular state, but we found, you know, upwards of 200,000 dead people on these voter rolls. We found, you know, I Think, I think Approximately close to 30,000 suspect non citizens and that we don't just like start taking people off the voter rolls. We then go investigate each one, we go check did they become a citizen between the last time that we have a record for them and today that could happen and we make sure that they're not citizens and then we get them off the voter rolls. It's, it's both a crime to deliberately register to vote and misrepresent yourself as a citizen if you're not a citizen. And of course also to actually vote if you're not a citizen.
Vince
And then what about these states that you're fighting in court? I mean, what are, what are the chances that you can have victory here? The media keeps crowing that judges are stopping you from getting this.
Harmeet Dhillon
Well, judges are, they're correct. Judges are not. I will say it's a little strange. There's a half a dozen different theories that different states have prevailed on in court. One of the vogue theories is that the voter rolls are not a record within the meaning of the Civil Rights Act. Other, other judges have said there's no proper purpose articulated where the statute we're going on, the 1960 Civil Rights act doesn't require a proper purpose. It requires the attorney General has a right to this data. And obviously cleaning up the voter rolls is a proper purpose right which we've articulated. And some, some states have even admitted in court that if we like their purpose, like if this was under olden times and the argument being made by the Department of Justice was that black people are being prevented from voting, we'd happily hand over the voter rolls. But it's not really up to them. I mean it's. The statute doesn't limit our ability that way. So ultimately if, you know, we, we make our way up to the Supreme Court and that court doesn't agree, then Congress will need to fix this problem. But it is our view that we're entitled to this material. And yes, many states immediately agreed with us and cooperated with us and that's the right thing to do for the voters in that state because every single vote that was cast that Mikey Sherrill blows off as a glitch, an error is the cancellation of another New Jersey citizens vote.
Vince
Yes, disenfranchising New Jersey voters of every color. And the courts should acknowledge that, that we need to protect these votes, obviously. Harmeet Dylan, I talk about you all the time because I keep saying she's, she's one of the good guys in this fight. And I Mean it. And I'm so grateful for you to join us and give us this information today. Thank you so much.
Harmeet Dhillon
You're welcome. Take care.
Vince
The great Harmeet Dylan. It was really nice to chat with her. Thank you to Harmeet for being in this fight and making all the difference in the world and just absolutely taking it to these states. And you heard her in the interview. Look, she's a Justice Department official. They're not allowed to say yes. We've got a criminal investigation underway into this subject right now. But she did use the phrase, you can infer what you'd like. Well, I'm inferring that they have a very active criminal investigation into all of this underway. Godspeed, Harmeet. Crush these people. Crush them. Do it for us. Thank you. To harm me, Dylan, again. We'll have her back again soon. Now, I want to, I want to share something. One, one more thing with you before we go today. Do you guys see Elon Musk sit down with the Economist this week? Did you see this at all?
Harmeet Dhillon
Chat?
Vince
It was great. It was great. It was great.
Harmeet Dhillon
Love it.
Vince
Elon Musk sat down. I love when Elon Musk sits down with crazy left wing white women. I don't know, there's something sort of wonderful about it. I'm not sure exactly why the chemistry works so well, but he destroys them. And so this was one of those moments. And he sits down with this lady and she hates him. She clearly does not like him or thought, this is my big career opportunity. If I can square away Elon Musk, it's not going to work at all. In fact, let me take you through some of the highlights here. We've got Elon Musk. Oh, so she asked him, hey, how many people have died because of DOGE cuts? You know, you were a part of doge. You were cutting all these federal government expenditures, including USAID spending. How many people have died? And Elon Musk says The answer is 0.0%. 0.0 people have died. Cut 4.
Larry Kudlow
Watch this.
Elon Musk
You don't buy the idea that anybody, to put it really crudely and simply, any kid in Africa died because of the suddenness with which.0. I just don't think that's right. I just don't think. I mean, I've had people reporting in
Interviewer from The Economist
Africa who, how many NGOs are there that, that could, that could step in? Because bear in mind this, it was, it happened quickly. So this. And there are literally tens of thousands of NGOs.
Elon Musk
Not everyone functions as fast as you do. If funding is cut off for antiretrovirals overnight and it just stops. Then people will die when they don't have access to them. And it just.
Interviewer from The Economist
No, no. Only if they cannot get funding for that. But the gates foundation has $50 billion. What about them? What about any one of a number of organizations? What about the Mackenzie Bezos, Mackenzie, whatever her last name is used to be. Bezos gave $50 billion. What about that?
Elon Musk
But, you know, let's be practical. In many of these countries, USAID was the biggest funder. But I don't want to have.
Interviewer from The Economist
USAID was a political organization.
Elon Musk
It may also have been that, but it was the biggest funder of health care systems. So I am, I'm very sure, biggest
Interviewer from The Economist
funder of regime change.
Elon Musk
And there may be well be benefits from having changed.
Interviewer from The Economist
Also, USAID funding was not stopped. It was moved to the State Department.
Elon Musk
It was stopped. There were huge numbers of things shut down in Africa that were.
Interviewer from The Economist
No, there were funded of this. These claims are false. They're nonsense, absolute nonsense. But when funding is stopped for fraudulent organizations or for something, do you think they're going to say. Do you think they're going to say, well, please keep funding the fraud, or do you think they're going to come up with a sad story that sounds sympathetic in order to get the funding restored? Obviously, it will be the latter, and that's exactly what they did. But zero died because of dosh. 0.0.
Elon Musk
I actually have a lot of sympathy for the change of the aid regime that the US under the Trump administration is preceding. However, I think the pace and the suddenness with which it happened will almost certainly have caused unnecessary suffering and deaths. And I think both of those conflicts.
Interviewer from The Economist
No, I think that's totally false.
Elon Musk
Okay, well, let's.
Interviewer from The Economist
And obviously false because there are. The amount of funding we're talking about is far less than what can be supported by foundations like the Gates foundation or Mackenzie Bezos Foundation. She's given away tens of billions of dollars. The Gates foundation has tens of billions of dollars. They are capable of acting very quickly.
Vince
All right, perfect. So this is. You know what I love about this? I just love everything about this because she's advancing a conspiracy theory. You're killing people. You're an awful person. You've been killing people. Okay, what's the evidence for that? She has no evidence. It's just a matter of. She's just taking it on faith. It's just a kind of a religious adherence to a talking point. But he doesn't care about her religious adherence to a talking point. He just says, instantly, you're lying. It's not true. There's no evidence for it whatsoever. It's nonsense. 0.0 people have died as a result of doge cuts. In fact, doge cuts have been a benefit to the American people because we're not spending money on insanity anymore. Not at the level we were previously, at least. And he was rightly calling out, too, USAID was a regime change operation. It was like a CIA front. It was, it was, it was meddlesome. It was disastrous. It was a left wing slush fund that was funding all sorts of nonsense that had nothing to do with benefiting the American people. You want to see nonsense that the USAID was funding? You see the Associated Press story this week. We were funding transgender Nepalese sex workers. What? We were paying welfare to random people in Nepal. Transgender. What are we doing with. This is American money. So my grandchildren are going to be able to, like, not afford to live because we have to dump money into transgender Nepalese sex workers? Are you serious? Cut eight. Watch this.
K
These transgender sex workers operate in the shadows alongside a busy highway in central Nepal, risking their lives for a few dollars. Until recently, many of them worked not as sex workers, but as aid workers, including Ruby Lama, who dedicated years of her life to helping prevent the spread of HIV in Nepal's marginalized communities. But after the US had its foreign aid funding, Ruby and around 300,000 other aid workers worldwide lost their jobs with no other employment available. She is surviving now by working the streets alongside the very people she once fought so hard to help.
Vince
I'm sorry, for those of you listening to the audio podcast, you don't get the benefit of the. The language unless you understand that. But they're talking about all the free condoms and free lubricant and all the garbage that we were paying for. And you're like, what the hell's going on, by the way? If you are receiving a check from U.S. taxpayers, and then it's. The check disappears and like, they're saying that, oh, they, they lost their jobs. You weren't. You didn't have a job. You had a welfare check from the American people. We've had veterans living homeless on the streets of the United States of America, and we're sending money to Nepal to pay for sex workers. Hello. This is so crazy. Thank God Elon Musk went in there. Thank God President Trump keeps getting elected. Thank God they're cutting off this nonsense. That's what that lady was defending. We got to keep sending all this money to Transgender Nepalese prostitutes. How about no? How about no? We don't send our money to them? That's crazy. Yeah. Our tax dollars no longer funding employment for transgender Nepalese sex workers. Thank you for reminding us why defunding usa, USA idea was long overdue. That was Brandon Gill, the great Brandon Gill, responding to this Associated Press nonsense. Yeah, thank you. Thank you. Another reason I voted for Donald Trump, to get rid of that garbage. This conversation continued with Elon Musk and the annoying lady. She was going after him for a bunch of random things she said. They started talking about, you know what, what actually leads to the death of people. This is Elon Musk saying, you want to talk about people dying? Forget random foreigners that you're just inventing are dying. How about American citizens who are dying because of George Soros funded DA's in the United States of America? Cut 5. Watch Elon Musk square her away on that subject.
Interviewer from The Economist
Where there is danger in this country is because we fail to incarcerate repeat violent offenders. And that's, you know, the classic sort of Soros DA or judges that fail to incarcerate repeat violence offenders. And if somebody gets arrested 50 times, literally for violent crimes and eventually they're going to kill somebody, so you either incarcerate them or people will die.
Vince
That's true. That's true. You know, it really is only a small subset of people who commit most of the crimes. And that's true across societies. Definitely true in the United States of America. And it just so happens that in these highly concentrated sections of the country, you have these Soros funded DAs who keep letting the violent criminals back out to commit more violence. In fact, you know how concentrated it is. Let me show you something here. A friend of mine, John Lott, great researcher, wrote a piece on this published this year in July. Look at this. Murders in the United States remain very concentrated. That was back in 2024. This is the data that he's drawing from with the murders in the worst 2% of counties remaining at their 2020 peaks. Look at the numbers here. The worst 1% of counties have 20% of the population and 41% of the murders. The worst 2% of counties in the United States of America, just 63 counties, they contain 30% of our country's population. But 54% of all murders, 2% of our counties are responsible for 54% of homicides in the United States of America. Now, those counties are the kinds of counties that have Soros funded, prosecutors hovering over them, meaning that the law's not being enforced, that violent criminals keep being released. In fact, like in a city like New York, New York City, you might remember this. This is last year, September of last year, you get all these terror attacks taking place, violent crime going on, and they say A cluster of 63 career criminals has been wreaking havoc on the subway. More than 5,000 arrests between them. 5,000 arrests for 63 people. Oh, Elon Musk is totally right about this. It's the same violent people over and over and over again. If you need, and if you just have real law enforcement and real prosecutors, you solve this problem. You establish peace. That's why the Trump administration has so much success dropping the homicide rates, all these murders, because they've actually been enforcing the law, including when people break relatively small federal laws. The broken windows theory. Our friend Dan Bongino talk about it with a lot of frequency. Just go after these violent criminals before they can commit murder. You catch them, you drop the homicide rate. The proof is in the pudding. We're seeing it already happen. So Elon's right about that, too. What else does he write about? Well, she was also annoyed. This interviewer from the Economist was also annoyed that Elon Musk supports what she refers to as far right people. Now, Elon Musk supports movements of normal people who'd like to be able to conduct their way of life and have civil liberties, and all across the country who don't want their borders destroyed, who don't want rapists pouring in. Elon Musk supports the causes of normal people. It's true. And so he makes his case as she goes, you support far right people. He goes, far right. What are you talking about? I support normal people. God's sakes, watch this.
Elon Musk
You support not just the populist right, but the far right. In fact, very fringe parties in some countries.
Interviewer from The Economist
No, I support the normal people. What you call the far right falsely,
Elon Musk
you think is the normal person.
Interviewer from The Economist
Okay, yes, Literally, you could go back 10 or 15 years and these policies were completely normal. I think that's quite funny, is to take a speech from Obama and Hillary and then go to someone and say, who's sort of on the sort of what I call the lunatic left, and say, what do you think of the speech by Trump? Like, oh, wow, he's the worst person ever. Actually, that was a speech by Obama. Or actually, that was a speech by Hillary.
Elon Musk
Yeah, literally. No, I agree that the center of gravity in this country has shifted. Certainly the Democratic Party shifted to the left, but that's not what I'm talking About? I'm talking about people like Rupert Lowe.
Vince
Fringe, right?
Interviewer from The Economist
Please. It's actually just normal people.
Vince
Just normal people. I'm talking about people like Rupert Lowe. Rupert Lowe, the guy who doesn't want Islamic rape gangs running all over the uk. The guy who's concerned about the well being of Britons. I'm sorry, what's, what's fringe about that opinion? Isn't that a normal opinion? We don't think that the girls should be raped. We don't think our borders should be wide open. We shouldn't have Islamic rape gangs pouring into the country. Isn't that a normal opinion? Normal people have that opinion, don't they? They should. Oh, it's very fringe. I support normal people. Good for him. One more from Elon while we're on the subject. I just, I just can't get enough of this because he was running circles around this chicken. She said people don't like you. They not, not this that they don't like you. They loathe you. You are loathed Elon Musk. And he goes, really? I'm loathed? Let's look at the data for a second. Cut seven. Watch this.
Elon Musk
Why people loathe you. I mean, some people do loathe you.
Interviewer from The Economist
Yes, some people do.
Elon Musk
But do you understand why? Do you think what you're doing is helpful for Western democracy?
Interviewer from The Economist
Maybe some people do loathe me and that's probably true. I don't care. But the fact that as you pointed out, a quarter billion people follow me is that I think a lot more people actually like me than don't. And I think a lot more people hate you and the media more than you realize.
Donald Trump
I know.

Host: Vince Coglianese (Silverloch)

In this episode, Vince Coglianese delves into escalating tensions between President Donald Trump and Senate GOP Leader John Thune, centered on the Save America Act—a proposed election integrity bill. The conversation explores cracks within Republican leadership, public callouts from Trump, the media and political fallout, and in-depth discussion with Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon regarding non-citizen voting and federal efforts to clean voter rolls. There are also sharp media critiques, a lively segment featuring Elon Musk’s confrontation with a left-leaning interviewer, and pointed commentary throughout on Republican messaging, legislative inertia, and Democrat strategy.
The episode is characterized by Vince’s signature direct, combative, and often humorous right-populist tone. He uses hyperbole (e.g., “crush these people,” “morons,” “psychopath” for Carville—though half-jokingly), taking aim at GOP “establishment,” feckless “consultants,” Democrats, and legacy media alike. The language is conversational, passionate, and laced with both frustration and optimism among Vince and his guests.
Vince 338 offers a vivid look at the fractures within the Republican coalition, the political and strategic stakes of election reform, the high-wire politics of public accountability, and the ongoing battle for narrative supremacy in U.S. politics. The episode rounds out with strong calls for action, excoriation of legacy media narratives, and notable guest insights, especially from Harmeet Dhillon and Elon Musk, providing listeners with talking points and background for ongoing debates about election integrity and conservative governance.
For new listeners: This episode is a perfect snapshot of the current political fault lines in Washington — a blend of hard-hitting commentary, exclusive insider moments, and entertaining media smackdowns.
