I was honored to be a keynote speaker breaking down building your personal brand for big opportunities and how to create content and get money from brands to pay for it. Here are my episode notes: Podcasting’s Growth and Advertiser Spending: Podcasting is experiencing explosive growth, with advertisers spending $2.3 billion on podcast advertising in 2023, expected to rise to $4 billion by 2025. Even small podcasts can attract brand sponsorships and ad revenue due to the increasing availability of funds. Brands Investing in Niche Audiences: Brands are increasingly investing in podcasts with small, passionate, and engaged niche audiences. They recognize that such podcasts deliver better returns on their investment. Benefits of Getting Brand Deals: Securing brand deals offers significant advantages, including financial support to execute podcast ideas, the ability to hire staff and improve equipment, and enhanced credibility. Additionally, associating with brands can lead to more speaking opportunities. Red Flags in Podcast Monetization: Avoid immediately setting pricing for your podcast. Instead, engage in conversations with potential advertisers. Going directly to marketers, based on your niche and audience, can enable you to charge a premium for ad placements. YouTube for Podcast Discovery: YouTube has become the primary platform for podcast discovery. To leverage this trend, podcasters are encouraged to create video content, such as audiograms, which combine audio with visuals, appealing to a wider audience and participating in the YouTube strategy.

Mario talks about the new app, Threads! It is a new text-based social messaging app from Meta (formerly known as Facebook) with over 100 million users within a few days of its launch. The app is backed by Meta, indicating it is likely to be around for the long term and not fizzle out like some other startups. Joining Threads early provides an opportunity for community discovery and faster growth as the user base is still relatively small. It is recommended to approach Threads as a separate platform, not using the same content as on Instagram, as it is meant to be used differently. The speaker promises to provide more information about Threads, including new features that can benefit businesses, personal brands, and communities. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR YOU: Please answer my listener survey, it will only take you 90 seconds to do and its critical for our planning: https://forms.gle/kyGZ18No44vFSkTW8 In this episode, Mario Armstrong explores a profound Chinese proverb, “Sleeping in the same bed, but dreaming different dreams,” which paints a vivid picture of how people can share a physical space, yet their minds can be in completely different places. This proverb is applied to the challenges entrepreneurs often face when their visions don’t align with those of their family members, partners, clients, or stakeholders. How can we not only share the same “bed” but also dream the same “dreams”? Here’s what you can expect from this episode: Communication: The importance of clarity and brevity in conveying your vision, the direction you’re heading in. Mario emphasizes that if you’re explaining what you do, rather than telling, your communication isn’t clear enough. Alignment: The necessity of ensuring that your goals align with those of your partners, stakeholders, or clients for smooth collaboration. But also, understanding that not everyone, like family members, needs to fully grasp your vision – their support is enough. Flexibility: How active listening and paying attention to no-verbal cues can help you be open to adjusting your approach based on the feedback received, being comfortable with making changes on the fly. Empathy: Understanding someone else’s position through active listening becomes crucial for achieving common goals. Mario reminds listeners that sharing a bed and dreaming the same dreams is about communicating clearly, understanding and aligning with your partners, and being flexible based on feedback.
