Julie Foudy
I'm always so fascinated at how you all stay so calm and positive when
Logan Eggleston
our back's against the wall. We play our best volleyball. Like, we love the pressure. It was such an incredible environment. Like, that's kind of what volleyball can do. And it's crazy that that's the turnout we get in year two.
Abby Wambach
How many championships have you won? Back to back to back to back to back. It's amazing.
Julie Foudy
I've never been to a professional volleyball game like that. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh.
Logan Eggleston
Oh.
Abby Wambach
Oh.
Julie Foudy
Oh, no.
Logan Eggleston
Oh.
Abby Wambach
Attention. The party is about to commence.
Julie Foudy
Welcome to the party. What's up, party people? I'm Julie Foudy.
Abby Wambach
And I'm Abby Wambach.
Julie Foudy
Look at us twinning out today with our cute little.
Abby Wambach
We didn't even plan it. We didn't even plan it.
Julie Foudy
And our cute little shirts. You know what this means? We talking to some love champions.
Abby Wambach
It does mean it. It does. It's very exciting.
Julie Foudy
What's up, Abigail? How are we
Abby Wambach
today? How am I? I am good. I am feeling excited about this week. For some reason. I woke up like on the right side of the bed. I got a lot of good rest this weekend. Had a lot of fun. Yeah, doing really fun.
Julie Foudy
Was. How fun was that championship game?
Abby Wambach
Glennon and I can't stop talking about it. We're just like, this thing is amazing. This whole product, it was fun. It was engaging. We had incredible seats.
Julie Foudy
Yeah. So Abby and I went to Anglin to league one volleyball. Their second match. It's like a two match championship. And we went to Saturday's match together at the mid the pyramid at Long Beach State.
Abby Wambach
Yeah, it was so fun. And Jules, I gotta give it up to you because you were traveling all week with the national team and you got right off that plane and got right in your car and drove right up to Long Beach. And I just. That is real commitment. And I just like love your passion for life. It actually makes me want to be a better person. And then also on Sunday, yesterday you're like, at three o', clock, four o'.
Logan Eggleston
Clock.
Abby Wambach
And then at night you're like, I'm going golfing with Declan. And I'm like, what? Where do you get this energy? I was laying. I was laying flat all day yesterday because I was like, oh, my gosh. I went to this championship game. I'm exhausted.
Julie Foudy
I didn't have a choice. I told you that, Declan. I was like, dex, like, we're gonna golf on Sunday. And I'm like, are we.
Abby Wambach
Do.
Julie Foudy
Do we want to. And he goes, mom, you are not getting out of this. We're going golfing and then we're gonna go to dinner. I was like, okay, that sounds like a good plan.
Abby Wambach
How was your trip? How was the national team trip?
Julie Foudy
It was good. It was fun. It always is fun. But. And they.
Abby Wambach
Is it fun like you actually enjoy it?
Julie Foudy
Yeah. Our group of, you know, Shannon Box, Becky A. Brun, Melissa Ortiz, Sarah Walsh. It's like such a fun group that we really, we do have, we have a lot of fun. And especially when you're playing the same team three times. I don't have to prep for three different teams, which is a lot. Yeah. So it was a bit long because the weather was so terrible in each spot. I mean, it snowed. There was a whole field of snow. Right. Right before we played in Denver. So that was a little challenging for the crew especially. But yeah, it was, it was fun. I, I, I'm really enjoying this phase of it with Turner at TNT Sports. They're amazing. So. And we have a really fun crew and I'm happy that the U.S. won that third game. So, yeah, we are going to have y' all two time league one volleyball champion and NCAA champion at Texas, Logan Eggleston joining us in a bit. But I thought we should talk while we don't have Kinger abs about where in the world is Billie Jean King?
Abby Wambach
Because, oh, my gosh, can we do that? Can we make that noise like, where in the world is Billie Jean King? Like Carmen Sandiego back in the day.
Julie Foudy
Yeah, Jack will be on that. Where in the world is Billie Jean King?
Abby Wambach
Jack's our editor, you guys. He makes the show look beautiful.
Julie Foudy
He makes the magic happen. So I don't know if you saw this. She has not said anything to us about this, but she is getting the Gleitzman Award at Harvard Tuesday.
Abby Wambach
What's the Gleitzman Award? That's amazing.
Julie Foudy
It's a prestigious honor recognizing individuals who have sparked positive social change and improved quality of life through leadership. They are, of course, honoring her for her lifelong commitment to social justice and equal pay, gender equality. She's getting it at Harvard. She's such a badass. She didn't even tell us. Kinger.
Abby Wambach
She needs to tell us more. And good job, Kinger. Proud of you.
Julie Foudy
Okay, let's get into our party starter. The highlights, shakeups and headlines. You, you'll want to celebrate this week in women's sports. This party starter is brought to you by Ally the Bank. That is your all. Labs topic number one. We're going to Be quick on this because I already talked about it. U S women's national team defeated Japan 3 nil on April 17th. That was Saturday. That was in snowy Denver, Colorado to win two of the three games and their three game series. So following. I don't know if you saw the game on tv, but following a scoreless first half, all of a sudden the United States came alive. I wish we could get the speech from EMMA at halftime. Second half goals than three of them from. Get this, Naomi GMA in the 47th minute. So right out of the half Rose Lavelle then knocked in a great goal on a Trinity Rodman also equally impressive assist and second center back Kennedy Wesley getting the third goal and Kennedy Wesley, the other center back assisted Naomi GMA her fellow center back and Stanford teammate on. We should, we should AD on the first goal. So that was fun to see.
Abby Wambach
The defenders are like. The defenders are like, guys, get out of the way. Let me, let me figure this out.
Julie Foudy
Let me just take over. You know, Becky was like doing a jig in the green room for sure. Big win for the US coming off their 10 loss to Japan in the game prior. And the thing I get so excited about is just imagine when I mean they're already. We're looking really good in that second half. Just imagine they're going to get Mal Swanson back eventually. Kat Makario back. Tierna Davidson will be fully healthy. Sophia Wilson, Trinity Rodman will come back to 100%. Come on. The depth of this team is ridiculous. Fabulously.
Abby Wambach
So, so fun. It's so fun. All right. We're going to move on to women's rugby. Very excited. The U.S. women's National Team, Jules. Our Eagles took on Australia in the Pacific 4 series. So I just want to do a little table set here. The Pacific 4 series is, Jules, one of the top international women's rugby tournaments in the world. It's featuring the U.S. canada, Australia and New Zealand. It's played in traditional the 15s format over. Over three weekends in April. The Pack 4 series also gives fans a rare chance to see some of the top teams in the world on home soil. So, Jules, as you know, we have the Women's Rugby World cup coming in 2033, which is so exciting and it's just like going to be an amazing momentum builder for that.
Julie Foudy
Yeah.
Abby Wambach
And the USA, they played New Zealand on the 11th in Sacramento. In Sacramento and lost unfortunately this past Friday.
Julie Foudy
Okay.
Abby Wambach
Then they took on Australia and Kansas City. It was kind of a wild start to this one. Kickoff delayed nearly three hours due to severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings. The game didn't start, Jules, until 10:45.
Julie Foudy
Life. Oh, my gosh. That's when I would be like, yo, y', all, that would not be fun. I would not enjoy that as a commentary. I'd be like, okay, let's just, let's just do this. Let's come back tomorrow.
Abby Wambach
I know, I know. I would, too. I'm asleep at 9:30, like now. Like, I couldn't imagine starting a game an hour and 15 minutes later. Anyways, the Eagles, the US team, got the win, 33 to 12. Thank goodness. Now, next up, the USA takes on Canada in the series finale on April 24th in Chicago. It's streaming live on Paramount plus at 7:30pm That's Central Time. So that'll be 8:30pm Eastern Time.
Julie Foudy
Good time zone conversion.
Abby Wambach
Well, and Jules, don't forget, we're going to keep the party, the rugby party, rolling because this Thursday on the pod, we are talking to a women's elite rugby, the first women's professional league in the US now in its second season. Do you know what a scrum half is, Jules?
Julie Foudy
No.
Abby Wambach
Yeah, me neither. But we will, we will soon. But just stay tuned. Check out that, that episode on Thursday, y'.
Julie Foudy
All. Okay? And in WNBA and basketball news, one, the training camps have gotten underway this past weekend, yet there's still a few big names out there unsigned. I'm surprised with this one. Natasha Cloud, who I love to death, is unsigned as of Monday morning when we're recording this. But there has been a lot of big money signings and we are huge for it all. Okay, y'. All. Last week, Asia Wilson Wilson signed, Will, resigned with the Aces and a historic three year, five million dollar, fully guaranteed Supermax contract extension and became the highest paid player in WNBA history on Wednesday right after we recorded. Of course, that always happens to us, so we're just talking about it now. And two days later, that changed pretty quickly. Aaliyah Boston signed a historic four year, $6.3 million contract extension. God, I love this new CBA so much. With the Indiana Fever becoming the highest paid player in WNBA history. And let's just say at this rate, you're going to want to keep your notifications on because literally by lunch, someone else will be the highest paid player in WNBA history. And that's a good thing. And as the rugby party keeps rolling on, the WNBA party keeps rolling on as they recently confirmed future expansion teams. They finally confirmed it in Cleveland, 2028, Detroit, 2029, and Philly let's go. Philly 2030. That's cool.
Abby Wambach
I want to. I want to become, like, an investor in a WNBA franchise, but I have absolutely zero ties to any of these places. And I'm sad. I'm like, what do we say? We can Philadelphia. I know, but I just want there to also be ties. Like, I scored some goals in Philadelphia. I scored some goals in Cleveland. Does that count?
Julie Foudy
That for sure counts. You know, Kinger's already an owner in all three of them. More basketball news over to the NCAA. This just in. Audi crooks, who was number one in ESPN's transfer rankings. And as you may recall, she led the nation in scoring for a large chunk of the season. She is heading to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls for her final year. She stayed in the Big 12 after three seasons at Iowa State. And I just love this kid so much. We're going to get her on the pod eventually. She was dancing. I don't know if you saw it, abs on Instagram. She was dancing in full Oklahoma State gear with her coach, J.C. hoyt. And it's just. Let's just say it was really cute.
Abby Wambach
That's so good.
Julie Foudy
Yeah.
Abby Wambach
Jules, we got a bonus topic because we want to talk about Annalee Pickle, our pickleball champion that we had on.
Julie Foudy
We gotta. Yeah, we gotta get an update. My mom was really upset about this.
Abby Wambach
Yeah. Annalee Waters, as you remember on the pod last week, she was just the best. She was really so cute. She's just awesome. Young but wise, 18 years old and so adorable. Yeah. And she's just getting ready to play in the Pickleball Slam 4. Okay. Billed as the battle of the sexes, essentially. It's what's. And. And. And it was the pickleball style, right? And it was Anna Lee and Jeannie Bouchard taking on tennis legend Andre Agassi and James Blake. And the team split the singles match, Annalee beating James, which. Let's go. Let's go. Fairly easily. But Agassi and Blake dominated the deciding doubles match, 25 to 23. And then the second game was 21 to 15 to secure the win. Now, Agassi and Blake deliberately were avoiding Emily, which I understand, because they were scared, right?
Julie Foudy
Because she's so damn good.
Abby Wambach
She's so good.
Julie Foudy
Really? My mom listened to the episode and then went and watched Pickleball Slam 4. Judy. Yes. She listens to every episode. She's like, I got so into that pickleball slam. Did you watch it? I said, no. I was interviewing Hillary Knight at the Same time summit at the exact same time. She was, oh, my God, they wouldn't hit to her, Julie. She's so good. They would not hit to her. And I was getting mad, and she finally said, why aren't you hitting to me?
Abby Wambach
I was like, I love your mom that she, like, listens to this and is like a proactive party person. She's just like, in the world now. Andre Agassi, he remains undefeated in pickleball slam events. He's four for four. And Annalee was competing despite, of course, juggling matches across Florida during the same week and having a big podcast appearance. On whose podcast?
Julie Foudy
Ours.
Abby Wambach
So she was busy.
Julie Foudy
She's coming to San Clemente early May. I'm gonna be the best hooligan ever.
Abby Wambach
I'm coming. I want to come.
Julie Foudy
You got to come down because she's here that whole week, May 4th through the 10th, she said. So we're gonna. We can have signs, right? She said, going to have signs. We're going to.
Abby Wambach
Yeah.
Julie Foudy
She said, okay, good. That's a wrap on our party starter. And thanks to Ally for sponsoring this segment. Ally is more than a bank, and their do it right approach helps customers unlock their economic potential and guides their efforts as a leading sponsor in women's sports. And just like us, Ally believes that when women in sports win, we all have a reason to party. Ally bank member, FDIC all right, party people, when we come back, we are talking to a League 1 volleyball champion. We're going to talk the golden set back to back titles. And yes, the big ass trophy had its day at in and Out Burger, which Abby I know loves. Logan Eggleston coming up next. Hook them, horns.
Abby Wambach
So many incredible FIFA World cup games are coming to la. Truly, anyone who's been to a FIFA World cup game really does understand that the host cities just really come alive. You've got fans from all over the world packed into the same neighborhood, the same cafes, all the restaurants.
Julie Foudy
Great.
Abby Wambach
This one experience. Yeah. And so from a player's perspective, those in between moments are actually what sticks with you. I think traveling from city to city and finding those little pockets of normalcy, whether that's a place to regroup or cook a meal or just be together with your friends and families for a second. That's why where you stay really does matter. And the best setups, Jules, we are always the ones that just felt like a home base, right? So somewhere you could actually settle in and not just pass through. If you've ever thought about hosting, this summer is a great time. As we welcome FIFA World cup fans. Your home might be worth more than you think. Find out how much@airbnb.com FIFAhost so, Jules.
Julie Foudy
Yes?
Abby Wambach
When was the last time your shopping delivery service really delivered? Because, you know, nothing says chaos like opening the door, expecting oat milk, and somehow ending up with almond. Yeah, it's annoying. It might just be an ingredient. But getting the items that you need to operate and live well during the week is really important. Right?
Julie Foudy
Details. Details matter.
Abby Wambach
And that is how I realized shoppers with Shipt are no ordinary shoppers because they know that no order is ordinary. I. I can actually feel the care jewels that they put behind what's in my cart. Not only will they never confuse parsley for cilantro, but that's a big one.
Julie Foudy
And that's not easy, by the way.
Abby Wambach
I know it matters.
Julie Foudy
That is an easy.
Abby Wambach
This matters. Cuz I don't like cilantro and it is important that I get parsley. But really, they actually check in with you? They actually check in with me multiple times before they check out to see if I need anything else the last minute. Did I forget paper towels? Need one more thing for dinner. They've got me. And I just think it's like, it feels so thoughtful and personal, like someone is literally shopping. Like a friend of mine is shopping that I would be texting with.
Julie Foudy
Yeah, it's kind of like my husband. He does the same thing. He'd be like, okay, I've got. I'm leaving. I'm about to check out. I love that they're like, what do you need exactly?
Abby Wambach
Plus shoppers with Shipt. Shop your favorite stores, including your local grocery store, Petsmart and Lowe's. So whatever kind of day you're having, they can meet you in it. Try shipt free for 14 days. Download the app or visit shipt.com that's S H I P T Terms apply.
Julie Foudy
Abigail, I think you might be kind of like me, but I don't want to judge if Your brain has 47 tabs open at all times like mine. Are you like that?
Abby Wambach
Yes.
Julie Foudy
Okay.
Abby Wambach
We call it the ticker in our. In our house.
Julie Foudy
The ticker. Right. Well, you and I are definitely checking out Planner because before I used Planner, all of my to dos and logistics were literally spread across those 47 different tabs open at all times. And Planner brought all of my tasks and events together into thank you, Planner. One place. So everything stays organized and I don't miss what actually matters. So with Planner, you can get a clear, organized view of Appointments, deadlines to dos. Try Planner yourself right now. And you can thank me later because you will. This show is sponsored by Liquid IV Abs.
Abby Wambach
Yo.
Julie Foudy
I have a feeling that you and I do vacations very similar. We are active, we are hiking, we are moving, we are pickleballing, we're surfing, we're doing it. All right.
Abby Wambach
Yes. My family and Jules, my family, we like to find one of the most like unpopular hikes. So I guess uncrowded is the way. Like we don't want to be on the most popular trail.
Julie Foudy
Right.
Abby Wambach
So we go down these rabbit holes of like finding the off the beaten path.
Julie Foudy
Right.
Logan Eggleston
Trails.
Abby Wambach
Do you guys do that or you guys. We do a popular trail?
Julie Foudy
No, I like, I like the path less traveled.
Abby Wambach
For sure. For sure. Yeah. And, and that because of that, you have to prepare for all circumstances. And by the way, let's just say it now, family vacation is not vacation, it's trips. There's no such thing as family vacation
Julie Foudy
when you have kids.
Abby Wambach
Exactly.
Julie Foudy
Okay.
Abby Wambach
When you have children, they're trips.
Julie Foudy
We actually did a hike that's really popular because it's, it's so good. When we were in Kauai last year. That waterfall hike, that's hard. It's really hard.
Abby Wambach
Yeah.
Julie Foudy
Way up high, you pass Hanalei Bay, you keep going, you have to take a shuttle in and because it's so long. We know. And I've done this hike before where I didn't bring enough water and electrolytes when I was younger. And so I told the kids. So the kids and I and Ian, we just like started shoving Liquid IV packets in everything we could in the backpacks and pockets so that when we are on this hike and I and I'm like, you have to bring enough water. Because the thing about those adventures and, and long, long travels and hikes like that, they wipe you out. So that's where Liquid IV has become our non negotiable. I literally throw those packets in and you can tear one open while you're hiking and just dump it in your water.
Abby Wambach
Yeah. And. And you can really feel the difference because Jules, I don't know if you know this. It's powered by their live hydro science formula, like an optimized ratio of Electrolytes, vitamins, and clinically tested nutrients that hydrate faster than water alone. And Jules, it's going to keep you hydrated for up to four hours. So that's not, that's not nothing. When you're running and, and, and hiking some of the, and going on these long hikes like, like you did in Kauai.
Julie Foudy
Okay, you know what my go to flavor is?
Abby Wambach
What?
Julie Foudy
Have you tried this one?
Abby Wambach
No. Pina colada. I've not tried that.
Julie Foudy
Oh, I, it is, is as if you were drinking a pina colada. It's clean, it's refreshing, it's not too sweet. What's your fave?
Abby Wambach
Good white.
Julie Foudy
White peach. I love peaches.
Abby Wambach
I'm such a peach person.
Julie Foudy
Okay. And if you want sugar free, that's your white peach one. You got that?
Abby Wambach
Yeah.
Julie Foudy
You got rainbow sherbet that fun. So wherever your curiosity takes you, bring Liquid IV. Go to LiquidIV.com and get 20 off your first order with code. Welcome to the party at checkout. That's 20 off with code. Welcome to the party at liquid@liquidiv.com. tear poor. Live more, hike more, party more. And now to the partiest part of our party. Okay, abs, let's set the scene. Sold out crowd, big energy and we're there. Asked to do the first serve. I didn't even know what the first serve meant. What they said, are you doing the first serve? And I was like, I don't know. Am I? I didn't even know what the hell it was. All I knew is we were fully committed to not missing. And in typical athlete style, all the people that came up to us were like, don't f it up, just make it over the net. I was like, thanks for the support. We did not miss. Of course we didn't miss. Okay, anyways, back to the story. Literally. Austin is staring down what could be the end of their season. They're already down a match to Salt Lake City. The season's on the line and of course they respond. Another fight, another five set win to force which we wanted the whole time, a golden set. So now it comes down to one golden set of 15 points for the championship. And this is where the stars show up. And Logan Eggleston 15 kills, 14 digs. Come on. Delivers the final swing to win it for the second time in two years. She won at Texas, she keeps winning at Austin and we keep winning to have her here on the show because she's with us today. Logan Eggleston, welcome to the party.
Abby Wambach
You are a champion. Logan you are champion. We are so thankful
Logan Eggleston
again.
Julie Foudy
Champion all the time. Do you guys get sick of winning?
Logan Eggleston
All I do is I don't think it's possible. I don't think it's possible against. Sick of winning. Every. Every time we win, it's even better than the last time. So I'm excited for, you know, many, many more wins.
Abby Wambach
So since you. Since you had a double double in the championship, did you get a double double at in and out questions?
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, I did. I sure did. It was like, it was required to. However you performed, that's what you have to eat after the game. So it was perfect.
Julie Foudy
I was just so blown away. I've never. I've seen the Olympics live for volleyball. I've never been to a professional volleyball game like that. And Abby and I sat there. We were so entertained. And, like, all the music and all the giveaways and all the stuff they do for you while you're there, we kept saying, why aren't we doing this in soccer? Why are we playing music like this? Why are we, you know, like, we took away a lot of things we're going to bring, hopefully, to Angel City is what we came away with.
Abby Wambach
Yep. Yep.
Logan Eggleston
That's awesome. It was such an incredible environment. Like, that's. That's kind of what volleyball can do, is, like, bring people together like that. It's such a cool, like, close environment in a gym like that. And it's crazy that that's the turnout we get in year two. You know, it's like year two of this. We're still growing, we're still building. And to have people show up like that and just be so invested, it was like, one of the coolest atmospheres I've gotten to play in in my career.
Abby Wambach
A lot of people were saying, you know, the championship game last year was not like this. It didn't have the same vibe. Like, what do you think contributes to that new and newfound energy, man?
Logan Eggleston
I mean, I just think it's the way the league has just been so intentional about connecting with the community and social media growth and getting people, you know, in. In the arena. They've just done such a great job of building this. They've created this hype around it and this excitement, and I think people genuinely want to show up and be there. I think we felt it a little bit Thursday night. Like, the crowd was fun, but I was like, oh, gosh, like, Saturday is going to be a scary. A scary environment if we're not coming out on top, you know? And, yeah, I think this year felt way more real than last year. You know, getting to win back to back is really exciting, but this year felt so much more real. It was so much more emotional. You could really see that the crowd was either a Salt Lake fan or an Austin fan. Like, it was very much like people were in it and invested and like, wanted one team to win. So, yeah, it was, it's so cool. But the league has just done such a great job of building this and just creating this hype, creating these storylines, and it's, it's fun to be a part of.
Julie Foudy
Okay, can we rewind first to just the way this is set up because it's interesting and, and, and fix my terminology because it's going to be wrong, if you would. But there's. There's two match days. Is that right? Match. You call match days. So the. For the championship, for the final. Because we always think of it as like one soccer game or one. Whatever. Tennis. Tennis match. Okay, so there's two. There's Thursday and there's Saturday.
Abby Wambach
So you.
Julie Foudy
And each match day is best of. So.
Logan Eggleston
Right.
Julie Foudy
Best of five. Salt Lake City wins on Thursday in a five set thriller. Right?
Logan Eggleston
Yeah.
Julie Foudy
What. What were y' all saying in between? As you still have, of course, Saturday, but you have to win that five set series to get to the golden set. So what was the banter like in between the two days?
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, it was really interesting. It was interesting because what we talked about was it's really about who shows up on Saturday. You know, it's like you can win Thursday, but if you don't show up Saturday and win Saturday, you're done. So we kind of took it as Thursday was a great opportunity to play a great opponent, see what they do. We lost by two points. Like, when you really look at it, it was 15, 13 in the fifth set. And so it was like a 1% difference. And so we knew that we had everything we needed to win on Saturday. And it was all about just kind of like looking at what small adjustments we could make from Thursday to Saturday. And how can we show up Saturday ready to win? Because if you went on Saturday, we would have momentum going into the, into the golden set. So that's kind of what we looked at. We were like, you know, like Thursday it was a battle. We didn't play our best and we only lost by two. And so how can we just be our best Saturday? Cause it's all about. It's all about winning on championship day.
Abby Wambach
Okay. And so now let's get back to Saturday. The championship, it's all on the line, and Julie and I were sitting courtside, and, you know, the. The way that I felt, and I'm curious if this is true for you all. I felt like Salt Lake had the early advantage against Austin. You all. Did you feel that? Were you experiencing, like, oh, this is. This might not be our day? Or were you always. Is. Is the way that the. The. The. The. The way that it's set up, is it. Is it made to keep you in it forever? Are you always feeling like we can change this around at any second?
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, volleyball is a sport like that. It's like at any given moment, the momentum can change and someone can just go off and a team can just, like, find their rhythm. I had no doubt the entire season, honestly, but especially on Saturday, I had no doubt that we were going to win that game and just find a way. I got so many text messages. Yeah, I got so many text messages after the game about the fourth set. We were down by, like, seven points, I think.
Julie Foudy
Yeah, I was starting to worry.
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, I think everyone was starting to worry, but we weren't. I think it was just kind of like we knew that any moment we could kind of find that. That spark and turn it around, and the momentum could just shift our way so quickly, and that's exactly what happened. So right when we started getting. Getting on that run in the fourth and coming back, I was like, yeah, we got this. Like, I know there was still probably, like, an hour left, like, we had, you know, to win the fourth set, win a fifth, and then also get to the golden set. But I just was like, yeah, this is ours. We've kind of found the spark. We changed the momentum. It was all on our side. And I could kind of look across the net and see that they felt that, too. Like, they were like, oh, here's the Austin that we've all have been waiting for. This is kind of what we do is when our backs against the wall, we play our best volleyball. Like, we love the pressure. And so, yeah, I didn't have any doubt. I just remember looking at Skinner, we had this thing. It's like, just look at each other in the eyes, and we're going to figure it out. And we kind of had that in a moment in the fourth set. And I was like, yeah, we got this. There's no doubt in my mind.
Julie Foudy
I'm always so fascinated at how you all stay so calm and positive. Like, you know, like, there's such a momentum shift, as you say in volleyball, and that Was I played in high school. So listen to me. I mean, when I played in high school for my varsity team, indoor, like, not getting upset at missing a serve or missing a hit or missing a dig or whatever it is. Like, y' all stay very calm and positive, which is so important. And I was watching you in that moment because I. When you, when it felt like Salt Lake City was making this run, I was like. And then you went on that six point run, and I was like, okay, because you all were so calm about it.
Abby Wambach
But like, I just want to say this before you respond, Logan, because it's so different than other sports that after every single point, all of you come together. So even if a player has made a mistake, they've missed a serve or they hit it out of bounds or whatever. Yeah, they. I see a moment where the, the individual player is like, like, they, like, slap their hands together, but then you have to go and collectively unite and get into, like, a team huddle before the next serve. And I find that, like, that snaps you out of, like, any kind of despair or like, shame that you might have individually. Is that true? And do you like having to come together in between every point?
Logan Eggleston
It's so true. Yeah, it's. It's the best part of volleyball, I think. It's like that instant reset of just like getting back with your teammates, looking them in the eye, kind of feeling that, like, hug. You realize that you're not alone. And, you know, volleyball is a game of errors. I think it's a unique sport. And it's like, you know, if any point happens, it's because someone messed up in some area. And so it's like we're used to making errors and we're used to kind of like shaking it off and on to the next thing. We give ourselves about, you know, one second to dwell on that, and then it's like on to the next play. And I don't know if you guys noticed, but towards the end, like, when we got to the fifth set and the golden set, our huddles became so long. Like, we were just in there, like, hugging each other for like 5 to 10 seconds, just like taking a breath, resetting. Because it's, you know, it's about errors. It's like, you know, you want to forget the past, forget the errors, but you also want to forget the good things that happen, too, so you're not getting too high. So we've tried to, like, just like, hold on to each other, keep ourselves back down to this, like, you know, medium consistent Energy not getting too high, not too low, and just kind of resetting for each play. But, yeah, it's. It's awesome. And our team is so great at that. Just, like, looking each other in the eyes and connecting and resetting every single play and not, like, dwelling on what just happened.
Julie Foudy
Yeah, I totally noticed that. And, like, a smile, like, it's fine. It's gonna be. It's gonna be fun. Like, the importance of that. I wish we could have done that in soccer, but it's too far to run into a huddle every time.
Logan Eggleston
I would say I wouldn't be able to run to the middle of the soccer field every time. Yeah, that's too much, right?
Julie Foudy
Okay. And this golden set. I didn't know this was the first year you guys have done this. That's crazy. It was so fun. The craziness of the semifinals. Both of them go to golden sets. And then the final, we kept coming, saying, okay, we just want a golden set.
Logan Eggleston
It's for the drama, right? Yeah.
Julie Foudy
Yeah. Explain what it is to. To the party people.
Logan Eggleston
Yeah. So the golden set is if the team split one one with the games. You play one set to 15. That is pretty much it determines everything. It's so stressful, I will say, playing in it, but it's so fun because it's like, regardless of what happened, the last, you know, two to three hours of playing, it all comes down to this 15 points and, like, who can be the most locked in for this short period of time. And Art's Austin. We've played in, I think, the most five setters of all this season. Like, we just. We loved playing five setters. We were prepared for moments like that where it just kind of came down to these few points. We're really good about resetting, like I said, and just about focusing in and just having no doubt, like, that was the thing. It's like both teams obviously had everything that they. They needed to win the game, but it was about who could just focus for the longest amount of time there at the end. And it was stressful, but obviously we came out on top. And it's. It's so exciting. And it was just like this relief at the end of the day of, like, wow, we've been working all season for this. We've been playing so many five setters for this reason, and we were prepared.
Julie Foudy
I think we need. I think we need gold and something in soccer. We need to steal some of that.
Abby Wambach
We decided the. The serving clock that you have, we think that we should implement that in Soccer that like as soon as you cross half, you've got 60 seconds to get a shot off or an attempt at the goal. That would just like speed up the play.
Logan Eggleston
It would speed it up. Yeah. It's stressful. It's like, we gotta go, we gotta go. Yeah, yeah.
Julie Foudy
We bring golden goal back and you have a clock to that, so you have to shoot. I like that. Okay, okay. There's potential there. We also loved Logan Madison's post match comments about the closeness of this team. These are the people that mean the
Abby Wambach
most to me in this world. And winning is amazing and we love winning. But like this is what matters.
Logan Eggleston
This camaraderie, this feeling that we get
Abby Wambach
to compete alongside each other for something
Julie Foudy
bigger is so cool. Can you talk a little bit about that as well? Because I know a lot of you played in college together as well.
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, these are like some of my sisters. Like realistically, like they're going to be in my life forever. And so it's. I think that's what she's talking about is these moments are so amazing. Winning championships, winning games. But it's about the relationships that you build that are going to last forever. Like, I know I can call Madison or Asia or Bella or Zoe or anybody on our team and 20 years and they're going to pick up and be right there. And so I think that's what this is about. That's what sports is about. It's like finding your family and finding your people for life. And you obviously get to experience so many amazing moments together, but it's about who's going to be there with you through those moments forever. And we talk about that a lot. And what's really cool about so many of us playing together at Texas and just a bunch of us being just from the University of Texas is we're so similar. Like, we kind of come from the same set of standards. We had the same coach, we're the same kind of person. So we can relate to each other and we're always there for each other. We understand each other. We didn't have to think about building team chemistry or culture because it was just who we are. It was who we were as a group. So yeah, it's a really, really special thing that we have going and I think it's really not many people or not many programs are going to be able to recreate it. It's just something special that we have built and that we can hold on to, that we'll have forever.
Abby Wambach
Okay, Jules, I got my Omaha steaks delivery so did I. Oh, my God, I'm so excited. And I think that all of us know how important it is not only for athletes, but us aging women to get and to get our protein in right? And to me, this is why I love partnering with Omaha Steaks. It's because they've revolutionized kind of my approach to dinner and lunch and, you know, also sometimes breakfast, because they deliver premium proteins right to your door, meaning you have really high quality protein on hand. So, Jules, just like having it in the freezer and knowing I'm never that far from a really solid dinner, it's made. It's made all the difference and it's made me want to be more motivated to cook. So I've done their fillets. Oh, they were so good.
Julie Foudy
So good. So good.
Abby Wambach
Super tender. The flavor just like noticeably better than what you end up getting or grabbing at the grocery store. So you can. Absolutely. I just taste the difference. It's. It's palpable. Then I also love the convenience of it because everything vacuum sealed, vacuum portioned, portioned off. So you just use what you need and then you keep the rest stocked in the freezer.
Julie Foudy
Wait, abs? For reals? My whole family was in town for Easter and it arrived when they were all there and they were like, what is this and why aren't you sharing? I was like, you just back right off of my box of Omaha steaks. Okay. I love that.
Abby Wambach
I know. I'm actually glad that none of my family was here to see it. I was, like, hiding the steaks in my freezer. Julie Foudy
Abigail, you know I'm not a huge body product person, right? I don't have a huge routine, but I got introduced to OSEA last year by my Stanford pals. They gave me all of this product.
Abby Wambach
Okay.
Julie Foudy
And I am beyond excited to talk about it on the podcast because I use their stuff. My skin really does look and feel different after I've used it because I've been using it for the last year. This was a gift from the entire crew. It literally feels softer and smoother and more hydrated, and it's really cool. And this is fascinating because their formulas are seaweed powered, clinically tested, and it just. It delivers I've been especially into this anti aging body balm because I want to age body bomb. And it. And it feels like, like, how would I describe it? Like a liquid silk that goes on your skin. Super soft and super nourished and smooth right away. So I do notice that the more I use it, the better my skin feels overall. More supple, a little glowier. And who doesn't want both of those things? And the results are impressive too. In an independent third party consumer perception study of 32 women get this, 94 agreed their skin felt nourished, moisturized and softer. There you have it. The proof is in the pudding. 32 winning women, 92, 94 agreed that their skin felt better. They also agreed that their skin looked smoother, more supple and glowing. All right, so party people get a spring worthy glow with clean, clinically tested skin care from osea. And right now we have a special discount just for our listeners. Get 10 off your first order sitewide with code free. Welcome to the party. @oseamalibu.com. We saw Jared Elliott, who was, who is, well, was your coach, still is the University of Texas coach. He was at the game. He's been at the University of Texas for what, 25 years. And I said after the game, how many, how many of these gals are from Texas? And he's like, a lot. And he goes, and damn, do they know how to win. That's what I will say about them. I'm like, yep, they do. Yeah, eight. Eight Longhorns, right?
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, eight Longhorns. And then five of us played together, won a championship together in 2022. And then Eric Sullivan, our head coach, was also the associate head coach at Tech. We were there. So it's just, yeah, it's, it's a lot of burnt orange. And so I feel bad for some of the other girls, like, but we have converted them all into the Longhorn family. They're all Longhorns now. So it's like the full team has definitely like taken over. We're, we're all Texas girls.
Abby Wambach
And also coach Eric Sullivan. He is the head US Women's national team coach as well. What are your feelings and thoughts thinking ahead towards 28? When does the process start for women's volleyball to start getting that team made?
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, it starts now. It started last summer. We train every summer. We have, you know, usually a group of 30 to 35 girls in the gym. There's a tournament called Volleyball Nations League that happens every summer where we just go out and compete against other national teams for a championship. Last year we had world champs. This year we'll have continental champs. Next year, world champs, then the Olympics. So it's pretty much a constant tryout for the next four years. And it's really cool. Volleyball in America is growing so much. We have, like, the deepest national team in the world. I think that's kind of true in every sport in America. We just have such a athletic space in our country that we have so much talent. And so it's cool to go from, like, a professional season like this straight into the national team gym next week and just start competing against, again, some of the best players in the country. But now as teammates, like, it's fun because it's. You're competing for a spot, but then also you're getting to play with and beside, like, such amazing players. So the process starts now. And that's the goal, is to make it on the 2028 roster. I'm, like, so pumped. I love getting to play with Eric. I think he's such a phenomenal volleyball mind. It's cool to get to have a professional season with him and just kind of continue to learn the USA system and kind of. I feel like I'm at an advantage going into the summertime because I've been playing in the system all season. But, yeah, it's just about going in and competing and having fun and hoping to get the opportunity in la.
Julie Foudy
That is so crazy. Like, literally, you go straight back to back like that. Yeah, I gotta speak to Eric after. And I'm like, when do you. Do you get a break? He's like, no, we go into camp. I was like, wait, what? Right away?
Logan Eggleston
Yeah, I think half the team started training today, and then everyone else will get there in the next, like, two weeks. So it's. Yeah, it's like we turn right. Turn right around, get into it. But it's kind of nice, you know, you have, like, a week off to reset and kind of like shift from pro season to national team season. You stay in shape because you just played. I mean, I just played like, 11 sets in two days, so I'm definitely in shape and ready to go. But, yeah, it's going to be really exciting to get out there and start training again.
Julie Foudy
Are you going to do your roomie diaries again? Because I went down that rabbit hole with you in Asia.
Abby Wambach
I love it.
Logan Eggleston
Yes. Yes. That's the plan. We want to just kind of document years of what it looks like. Yeah, because it's. It's a journey, it's a Lot. A lot of competition, a lot of travel, a lot of just like, really cool memories that were getting to capture. And so, yeah, you'll see a lot more roomy diaries this summer.
Abby Wambach
How many people make, how many people make the roster at the Olympic roster?
Logan Eggleston
It'll be 12. Yeah, so it's, I think 12, potentially plus two. But yeah, it's, it is cutthroat and we have so many incredible athletes. Like, it's, it's a really, really hard process. And so, yeah, that's why it's like a four year process of can you piece together a really great resume over the next four years and play some consistent volleyball? And it all comes down. So I think we'll, we'll get the roster around probably June of 2028. And yeah, it's, It's a process.
Abby Wambach
I mean, talk about resume. How many championships have you won back to back to back to back to back? It's amazing. So I feel like you've got the resume down for sure.
Logan Eggleston
I hope so. I hope so. There's always, there's always more room to grow, but it definitely feels good coming out ending a season like that. Definitely feel a lot of confidence going into the summer. I know a lot of the team does as well, and so it's, it's exciting to get back and, and start working well.
Julie Foudy
Congratulations, Logan. Look out for San Francisco. Next year, however, we'll see. We'll see expansion.
Logan Eggleston
I like this already. The competition's coming out. We're only one day out of season. We're already talking about it. I like it.
Julie Foudy
I don't even. I don't think we have any players yet, but we're gonna get there. Just, Just wait.
Logan Eggleston
No. Y' all are awesome. It's been really cool to see just how many amazing women are just coming together to build something great. You know, this is what it's all about, is how can we continue to pour into the next generation. That's what we're doing. Like, we're excited for love to grow and. Yeah. So I, I thank you guys for what you're doing for our sport. It's. It's so cool to see people buy in and really care and just help with the growth. So keep it up. But Austin, always number one. Sorry.
Julie Foudy
All right, well, I hope you get like 48 hours to take a break at least before you start with a national team. Again, best of luck to you. We'll be cheering you on through this whole journey, so you're stuck with us from here on out. Madison knows that as well. You're stuck.
Logan Eggleston
I love it. I love it. I appreciate it.
Abby Wambach
We got to do a party pose before you sign off.
Julie Foudy
Oh, okay. I have to think of my party pose. Okay. Oh, yeah. How do. How do. How do you do that? I was trying. Is it this way or this way?
Logan Eggleston
So it's like. It's this way. So it's like the Longhorns, but it's like this because it's like love and sign language. So that's the Austin sign. A little mix.
Julie Foudy
Is that right?
Logan Eggleston
So. Yeah. Yeah.
Julie Foudy
Am I doing it right?
Logan Eggleston
It looks great.
Julie Foudy
I can't get this finger down in the pinky up. Okay, ready? Party pose on three. One, two, three.
Abby Wambach
I tell you what, Jules. I did. I just think that people need next season to just promise us to go to one match, go to a love match. See how it's. It's working. See how the teams are showing up for their communities. It was. It was just like. It was something to behold. I just. And the whole time, you and I kept, like, nudging each other, and we kept saying, we should do this us at soccer games. Why don't we have. Why don't we have, like, an in stadium commentator, somebody who's delivering a little bit more?
Julie Foudy
We do have the pa, but we could add because they gave a lot of, like, commentating while the game was going on because you're obviously not getting the telecast.
Abby Wambach
Yeah.
Julie Foudy
And so we thought that was super helpful for us especially.
Abby Wambach
It just kept it more engaging. And the music, I think we're both. Both were both agreeing on, like, maybe we could have, like, you know, walk up music for. For corner kicks or throw ins, like, just to quickly put it in there.
Julie Foudy
Yeah. I just love too seeing that. That group, I know they. They had their college connections as well, but it was so fun to see that momentum shift in real time and watch how they all stood by each other and, you know, had each other's backs and was like, you know, we. Because they. They. It did look like Salt Lake City was running away with it in that fourth set. And yet they were like, nope, we're gonna win this fourth one. We're gonna win this fifth one. And guess what? We're gonna win the golden set as well. And the power of trusting your teammates to get it done is.
Abby Wambach
This is why sports are so cool, because it's never over. It's never over.
Julie Foudy
And I love that Logan was like, no, we knew the whole time we were good. We're gonna be fine. Just look at Madison and be like, let's go.
Abby Wambach
I know, Madison, let's go.
Logan Eggleston
Yeah.
Julie Foudy
