All these women, 200 athletes are coming to Vegas. Olympians, professional female athletes, or 200 female athletes are coming to Vegas to take it over July 16th to the 19th. And we have a few surprises for him coming up. And I wish we could be there for that weekend.

I know. I really wish that I could be there, too. And you might notice that my voice is a little hoarse.

And I'm just mostly really sad that I can't go. Although, you know, Vegas is not like, my jam since I no longer drink. I've been sober for 10 years. But I do know that these women deserve it. I remember feeling after the Olympics happened, like July is so far away for these women. But it's actually, I think, was a smart idea for many reasons. Number one, it, like, lets them have the celebration and then to re celebrate what they've done and accomplished and to, you know, to go and to have, like, you know, the clubs and the restaurants and the cool hotels and all the fun things that they're going to be getting into, going to shows. I mean, do you. Do we know what they're going to be up to over the weekend?

We're going to find out. We're going to find out when we talk to them. I mean, the reason we can't go, sadly, it coincides with us doing a lot of live events in New York City the week leading into the Men's World Cup Final.

There's been these levels of it. Like, first it was like, people, and then it became we got more attention from sponsors and like, the corporate world and now private equity. So, like, the way that I think about it is from, like, bigger demographics than just like, people, because I understand that people make it happen. But the thing that I'm really excited about is that the corporate landscape is now seeing the value. Not just like they're gonna put a, like, pink bow on it and call it like a feel good moment. They're literally investing and like, literally getting a huge return on those investment dollars.

So for me, financial, for example.

[Abby Wambach]

Exactly. Exactly. Like these companies, and they've been doing it for years. You know, it's not just because they started doing it. It's. But now, like, the Fortune 500 companies are like, side eyeing all these other companies going, wait, what are they doing? How did they get big? And it's like, oh, women sports fans buy stuff.

[Julie Foudy]

Very loyal.

[Abby Wambach]

What about you?

[Julie Foudy]

They're very loyal. Well, of course, we got to point to this woman right here behind my. On my shoulder, Billie Jean King. If you can't see that little. The little bobblehead of her, I don't even. It's not a little bobblehead. It's a little doll of her. So Kinger, of course. And because in a world full of queens, we need more kings like Billy.

I actually think too, I'm really impressed with the amount of women who are investing in women's sports. That has always been a challenge in a sense of do we have women with the institutional pockets, the deep pockets that can assume losses and afford to lose money? And we. What we're seeing, obviously, Michelle Kang, top of the table. But you have. I mean, she's the biggest, I would argue, private investor in women's sports. Maybe I should that because I'm not sure on that. But she is obviously given a lot to us. Soccer. A lot to soccer. But you also see, for example, Kara Nortman and Jasmine Robinson, right. Founders of Monarch Collective, a women's sports fund. Karen Nortman was one of the founding owners of Angel City. So obviously they have a stake in Angel City. I'm also an investor in Monarch Collective, so I should say we have a stake in Boston Legacy and the San Diego Wave and Cleveland wnba. And then Melody Hobson, who we both love so much with aerial investments and what she started with Project Level, which is also a women's sports fund. They are investors in Denver Summit, the new NWS NWSL team, and love so the new women's volleyball league. Not so new, I guess now. So I, I don't know. I like, I, I love to see that, that women are stepping up.

It's important and it takes. It took enough time, I think, because, like, if you zoom out, I like to think about this. Like women have needed a little bit of time to make their own money to be able to be these kind of investors. And what I think back to is this title nine, right. I think back to 1972 and how the implications of that moment and what the butterfly effect has been from Patsy Mink and Edith Green. You know, these women, they spent so much of their life and time creating this law that ended up becoming something that people like me and you and Karen Norton and Melody Hopson could benefit from in college. And then you see what can happen down the road generationally. So I just, I think it's all so freaking amazing.

And then you have athletes who now have a net worth where they're able to give back. Obviously, Abs, you've been a big part of that. Billie Jean has been a big investor in, in women's sports. Yes, close to 200 Olympic professional and collegiate female athletes will take over the Las Vegas Vegas Strip strip for she weekend. And when they're out there practicing, it's taking them away from their work. You know what I'm saying? So I'm like, why not give this girl a boost? You know? So. So instead of me giving the girl a boost, I said, instead of me sponsoring the girl, let me sponsor the team. You feel me? So. So that's why I stepped in to sponsor the team, man. Well, it all started when I met a girl that does bobsledding, and she offered me to come up for a bobsled ride. So I took her up on her offer. And. And, yes, me and my manager, Rhiannon, we went up to Park City and we got in the bobsled. And I ain't gonna lie. That bobsled ride, oh, my God, it was amazing. It was kind of bumpy, though. Kind of bumpy.

Scary little, bumpy butt. But it was. It was cool. You know what I'm saying? When I got out of the bobsled and we was standing there, the track, something went by me real fast. I said, oh, please let me do it.

That's what taught me by form. So after I did it the first time, I stayed real stiff, like the sled, so that way my ankles don't bang into the ice. But I topped out at 66 miles per hour.

When Flav said he wanted to help support the team, what was the team's reaction? And what, what were you, what did you say to him in that moment?

I think we were all, I mean, in a great way, shocked in the sense of Flavor Flav. Like, that was one of the last people I expected to kind of answer the call in that sense. And so we were just so excited. I mean, our grins were like this. Really, really grateful and kind of just curious, you know, to see what was going to happen next. And none of us knew the hype, the Flavor Flav hype that, you know, he could bring to a sport like water polo and the energy behind it and the support and, I mean, it's been years now, and you can still see the connection that Flav and I have, and that all comes from just the spark that he brought. So we're so grateful, and it's made that journey that can be so difficult really fun. And I know what you guys have done with your respective sports. He's really helped do that for water polo, you know, now ice hockey and bobsled and so many other sports to support women and help us get to the level that we know we can be in terms of, you know, that recognition and more people watching. So very grateful, and it's been a fun ride, and I'm excited to see where we continue going with the hype.

As you were there, she was there with Nico and Noah, and she was actually signing Mommy won in American Sign Language to them, which. Which was so cool. And the gold medal marked a massive career milestone for Alana because you'd earned three silver and two bronze medal over 16 years of Olympic competition. And then there was the gold. Or how could I be the person that sponsors women's water polo or women's bobsled? Like, you just. You were so brave and cool to be able to be like, I'm just gonna do it. And what you're doing is you're showing that any person can do something like that if they want. And of course, you have a big platform. You're. You're famous, and that matters on some level. But, like, what you're showing, too, is that you can show up for people that you have literally nothing to do with. You can. You can donate. You can sponsor some of these Olympic sports that you might not have any understanding of it. You can do it. And you are kind of leading the way and the path forward for folks to be able to sponsor and invest best in women's sports. So I just wanted to say thank you for doing that. I watched her and thought, okay, maybe I can do this, since no one has done that in USA Water polo.
