What I would have said 20 years ago is, you know, if you don't want to go to jail, if you want to be there for your kids, don't do anything illegal. I didn't realize that the policies that I was supporting were actually creating a lot of the problems that I was seeing.

I've always been fascinated by how human and sometimes how brave it is to change our minds about something, to take something that we've seen one way our entire life, and to later look at it entirely differently. For me, that's the criminal justice system.
I'm Ana Zamora, founder and CEO of the Just Trust, and everything I thought I knew about safety and justice imploded when my brother went to prison. All those stories I was told about right and wrong and who should get punished went out the door. I look, I still believe that people should be held accountable for their actions and that prisons and police have important roles to play in our communities. But having seen the system up close, I knew that this, what my brother and family experienced, was not the best we could do.
I've since dedicated my career to making our justice system better, and along the way have met people from all walks of life that also had a moment when it clicked.
That's what this new series is all about. How people across the country who might have little else in common started to really see the justice system. And who said, enough, We've got to fix this. You'll meet a Nike executive who went to prison as a young kid, a former death row warden, a conservative Christian turned drug policy advocate, even a Hollywood actor who discovered theater while he was in prison.

I began to understand the parallels, like, between this character and me.
