5d ago00:04:41Tap to summarizeWL//WH Premiere: DARK FIDELITY HI FI "Reality Landing" (from "Your Skyline Correspondent" LP) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's been a busy couple of years for the Mancunian producer. 2025 saw a constant string of live shows up and down the country alongside the rush of starting up a host of new nights on his local scene. Unfortunately, however, Rick's mother passed away last November, and it brought pause and time for rumination. A gentle start to 2026 allowed him to start work on new music and slowly get back into performing live as the year progresses, and that brings us to the new album... "Your Skyline Correspondent" sees DFHF channel all his emotions into his music in new and unfamiliar ways. The focus on melody is stronger than ever and provides a language of its own as each track unfurls. Don't be fooled by the grey skyline on the cover. This is an album that shines bright. A colourful cascade of keys, pads and luminous soundscapes that are pieced together effortlessly over crystalline percussion and radiant bass. There are, of course, reflections on grief and loss, but the overarching theme is of love, memories, acceptance and optimism. The juxtaposed emotions in the creative process bring a new layer of depth to the signature DFHF sound. The new work is, all at once, built on fragments of melancholy but swirling full of embrace and hope. A stunning new chapter in the storied career of DFHF. Any fans of the "Left Hand Drive" EP will be elated to know that the emotive edges and cinematic backdrops are still at the forefront of the Wilks sound but there's a clear evolution at the core of his productions. It's a sound that is hard to pin down. Incorporating elements of ambient, electronica, garage and drum n bass into one evocative whole. Clean production techniques, a broader palette and more experience has elevated Wilks into a new realm of sound. Electronic music with finesse and grit. There's a more lacquered nuance in the shades of the melodies on show and the basslines run that little bit deeper. Helping to add further to the stirring depth of all six tracks. The percussion feels tight but luxurious as it meticulously opens and expands around the soundscapes. There's a degree of melancholy throughout but the reflection of the shuffling rhythms provides us with a constant sense of moving forward and upwards. Intricate, delicate, serene and atmospheric.
