On Tuesday, March 10, WordPress 6.9.2 was published — a security release addressing ten vulnerabilities, including XSS flaws, a vulnerability in the external library getID3, an authorization bypass, and a path traversal issue in PclZip. As a security release, immediate updating was mandatory. Just hours after 6.9.2 went live, some sites started showing a blank screen. The problem was caused by certain themes loading templates in a non-standard way. The security team moved fast and published WordPress 6.9.3 that same day to address it. But it didn’t end there: the following day, March 11, it was discovered that not all security patches from 6.9.2 had been applied correctly, which required publishing WordPress 6.9.4 with the remaining fixes. The tool makes it possible to visualize how project contributors participate, featuring a leveling system, activity tracking, and a data import framework. The next phase has two proposals on the table. The first is allowing each team to define its own contributor profiles tailored to how that specific team operates. For example, the Polyglots team could create profiles by language, and the Support team could distinguish between users who answer in forums and those who are seeking help. The second proposal is to automate contributor recognition when they reach key milestones, such as a first contribution or a new level on the scale. The team has been working to restore access to key references, guides, and technical resources used daily by plugin, theme, and core developers, ensuring that URLs work again and that the content is properly indexed and navigable as expected. Beyond restoring the content, technical aspects related to infrastructure and deployment were reviewed to prevent similar situations in the future, because the goal was not only to bring the content back, but to strengthen the stability and reliability of the system that supports the documentation, given that it is a critical resource for the ecosystem. Just 24 hours before the expected release of the first beta version of WordPress 7.0, Matt Mullenweg, co founder of WordPress, suggested a new section in Settings called Connectors, similar to Claude’s connections panel, where with a couple of clicks you can connect to AI providers. This is mainly meant to remove the friction of every plugin asking for API keys or similar and storing them in plain text in the database. Shortly after, a review process started on how to build this system and include it, if possible, in Beta 2, although it is more likely to land in Beta 3. The three existing plugins from the AI team have moved from being external projects to being able to integrate directly into WordPress core, with the idea that Connectors will have the usual extensibility via hooks and filters, making it easy to add new ones. The ones that are confirmed for this first phase are Anthropic, meaning Claude, Google with Gemini, and OpenAI with ChatGPT, although OpenRouter and Grok could also make it in.
