Here's your morning TNB Tech minute for Monday, August 10th. I'm Danny Lewis for the Wall Street Journal, Mark Zuckerberg's newest vision for Meta's AI ambitions pitches plans he says will share the wealth and opportunity from the technology to users around the world. In a 6,500 word essay, Zuckerberg said the company will release more open weight AI models, which allow users to download the numerical values that determine its behavior. So starting with a new model launched today called Muse Glimmer, Zuckerberg says Meta is also starting a $1 billion fund to invest in communities that host its AI data centers, but he didn't specify what that would look like. His comments come amid increasing public opposition to data center development in the US and as investors are growing impatient with Meta's AI efforts. Boeing is selling off its flying taxi venture in exchange for a minority stake in rival Archer Aviation. The companies announced today that Archer would acquire several subsidiaries from the airplane manufacturer in exchange for a 20% stake in the startup flying taxi maker Wiskaero, air traffic software provider Skygrid and drone maker In Situ. As part of the deal, Boeing will retain access to Wisk's autonomous flight technology. The companies say they expect the sale to close by the end of this year. And the Iran war is helping Chinese electric vehicle makers upend the global car market, as high gas prices spur more drivers to buy EVs. Chinese automakers are exporting excess supply overseas. While the Chinese EV market began the year with a glut of vehicles and weakening domestic demand, the International Energy Agency says the country's EV exports surged 120% in the first half of 2026. The energy agency now expects EVs to make up 29% of new car sales globally in 2026, up up from 25% last year. That's your T and B Tech Minute. Join us again this afternoon for more.
