Here's your morning TNB Tech minute for Tuesday, August 11th. I'm Danny Lewis for the Wall Street Journal. Nvidia has released a new open source AI model it says will help enterprises save money on token costs and protect proprietary data. The model, called Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, is smaller and cheaper to run than large AI systems. Nvidia also announced a tool called Nemo Switchyard that can automatically select models for different AI agent tasks and and make sure companies working in specialized fields like cybersecurity and material science don't send their intellectual property to AI companies that could one day compete with them. The announcement comes a day after Meta Platforms released its latest open model, museglimmer, which the company says can run on a Mac or PC with a single consumer gpu. Elsewhere in AI, we exclusively report that Anthropic is meeting up with potential investors to shore up confidence ahead of its expected initial public offering, people familiar with the discussions say. Investors have pressed the AI firm's executives on challenges like the popularity of cheaper Chinese made systems, tensions with the Trump administration, and a growing backlash to data center construction across the US in the meetings, Anthropic told some investors it plans to push farther into healthcare and biology work that the claude maker says could help mitigate some of the negative sentiment around AI. People familiar with the company's plans say it is targeting a public debut in September or October. And intel now plans to raise $20 billion by way of an underwritten public offering of 210.5 million shares priced at $95 each. That comes just a day after the company said it would aim to raise $15 billion. Intel intends to use the net proceeds for general corporate purposes and cited strong customer demand driven by unprecedented investment in AI compute.
