Here's your afternoon TNB Tech minute for Friday, March 13th. I'm Katherine Sullivan for the Wall Street Journal. Amazon Web Services plans to deploy processors designed by Cerebras inside its data centers under the multi year partnership. Amazon will use the Cerebras chip to help power inference functions, which allow AI models to respond to user queries. The companies decline to disclose the financial terms of the agreement, and the deal underscores a major shift in the market for computing power as the AI industry moves from model training toward inference companies that design AI tools and agents are realizing that graphics processing units don't work as well for inference workloads, which require more speed. Many of them are seeking to diversify their supplier bases as they gain millions of new users for their tools. Uber Technologies is speeding up its rollout of robo taxi services, analysts say the company is under pressure to compete with Waymo and Tesla for autonomous driving services, and Uber unveiled a string of robo taxi partnerships with Hyundai's Motional in Las Vegas, Amazon's Zoox in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and with Wave and Nissan in Tokyo. Uber users in Las Vegas can now hail autonomous Motional vehicles that are monitored by a vehicle operator, with full self driving expected by the end of the year. Zoox Robotaxis will be available in Las Vegas this summer and Los Angeles next year. Monitored Wave Robo taxis will hit Tokyo roads later this year as the Laxotica's dominance in eyewear could soon erode as tech rivals seek to benefit from the boost of smart glasses. That's according to a new research note from analysts at Bernstein. The Franco Italian group has been a first mover in this category, which has bolstered sales growth, the analysts said. The company's Ray Ban Meta glasses, which it makes in partnership with the Facebook parent company, have opened the door for tech giants to enter the market, but according to analysts, the success of the category could pose a risk for S Laurel Exotica as sales of traditional eyewear could be reduced. And that's it for your TNV Tech Minutes we'll have another quick tech update on Monday morning.
