Here's your morning T and B Tech minute for Thursday, August 13th. I'm Danny Lewis for the Wall Street Journal. We exclusively report that Apple is in talks to pay publishers for content in order to improve its upcoming AI powered Siri voice assistant. People familiar with the matter say the iPhone maker is proposing new multi year deals that would provide Apple with access to current news and information that would help power Siri AI, a major upgrade to the long criticized voice assistant that is expected to roll out later this year. The Wall Street Journal was among the first participants in Apple News plus News Corp. Owner of the Wall Street Journal, has a commercial agreement to supply news through Apple services. Cisco Systems says its net income jumped in its latest quarter as the network equipment company continued to get billions of dollars in orders from AI hyperscalers. Cisco reported a quarterly profit of $3.86 billion, or 97 cents a share. The company's CEO says it hasn't seen such consistent elevated demand across all of its portfolio in 30 years, as it benefits from investments in infrastructure to train AI models and strengthen networks alongside general equipment refreshes in U.S. corporations and Lenovo Group, the world's largest PC maker, kicked off its fiscal year with record sales, and it now expects to achieve its $100 billion annual revenue goal schedule. The upgraded guidance comes amid robust AI infrastructure demand and a resilient personal computer business amid surging memory costs. Lenovo is also branching out beyond PCs into AI servers, and it is expected to release a new line of AI powered PCs equipped with new Nvidia chips later this year. That's your TNB Tech Minute.
