Here'S your afternoon TNB Tech minute for Tuesday, October 14th. I'm Julie Chang for the Wall Street Journal. Instagram is rolling out new protections for teenagers accounts. The company says by the end of this year, teen users in the us, Canada, uk, Australia will only have access to content similar to what they might see in a PG13 movie. In other words, content with strong language, risky stunts and drugs would be hidden from teens. Instagram added that users under 18 will need parental permission to opt out. Earlier this year, the company owned by Meta, introduced new artificial intelligence systems to detect when teens are claiming to be adults. Walmart is partnering with OpenAI so shoppers can buy products directly within ChatGPT. The feature will be rolled out within the next few months to US Based users. Nearly all products available on the retail giant's website, except for fresh food, will be purchasable. ChatGPT already allows shoppers to buy some products from Etsy's domestic sellers, and it'll soon add some Shopify merchants. Walmart shares are up over 5% and the European Union's trade chief says China's latest export controls on rare earth materials are a critical concern for the bloc. Last week, Beijing imposed new restrictions on exports of rare earths and permanent magnets, which are critical to semiconductors, electric vehicles and more. Today, the EU trade chief said the measures are causing problems and complications for European companies, and he called for a coordinated response. China's Commerce Ministry said in a statement that the controls are not a ban and are intended to protect the country's national security and supply chain stability. And that's it for your TNB Tech Minutes. We'll have another quick tech update in the morning. How does F1 turn data into insights at 200 mph? AWS is how fans get inside the strategy.
